Five Star Reviews: | 78% Better than Scotch! February 24, 2017 I'm a kindergarten teacher and go through thousands of sheets of laminate per year. This laminator is better than the Scotch brand one that I had previously. Although it is a little slower by comparison, it doesn't jam and even when the sheet starts to crinkle due to my aligning it carelessly, the machine still magically makes it smooth and functional when it comes out. Has never wasted or "accordioned" a sheet of laminate. It heats up very quickly (under 5 min) and can run for hours without overheating and shutting down. I laminated with it for 4 hours straight once and it worked beautifully. Works well with every brand of laminating sheet I've tried. Absolutely love this laminator and have converted from Scotch to Swingline for good. Love it... February 11, 2017 I used this to help me craft some holiday gifts for the people at work (I made signs saying "Where is the [insert position title here]" and offering different choices of where they could be if they are not at their desk). I got loads of compliments on them and several people asked me where I had bought the signs. By making my own signs, even taking into account the cost of the supplies I saved a bundle. I would recommend this for others who may want to do similar crafts. Wife is happy with her laminator October 25, 2015 My wife LOVES this thing! She uses it for work. After 4 minutes of warm up it's good to go. We haven't had to use the ejection button so far but it's good to know that it's there. There are multiple sizes of laminating sleeves that you can use with this laminator. Card sized, 8.5x11, 4x8, etc. There is a setting for warm or cold laminating (cold laminating for those laminating professionals). I clearly have no idea what the cold setting is for. This has a compact design that shouldn't be difficult to store away between uses. I'm going to come home some day and find every flat piece of paper in the house laminated. AMAZING!!!!! September 3, 2015 Yeah, so I am IN LOVE with this! I have always secretly wanted a laminator for my house and a friend of mine posted this when it went on sale and I figured what the heck! And I am glad that I went and got it! It came in the mail today and I fired that bad boy up right away and already tested it out! I am so excited that I bought this! It is quick and easy and worth every damn penny! It took less than the 4 minutes to fire up... Which was great because I was like a kid on Christmas morning when I got this! I am going to be laminating everything under the sun now! And I have used a hand crank laminator at work and that stinks... So, if my boss wants me to laminate anything ever again she can buy the pockets and I will laminate anything she wants! Swingin' on a star with this Swingline gem! September 2, 2015 I ordered this on Monday. It was supposed to come in today. It came yesterday morning. Thank you Amazon Prime! I immediately began using it for practice sheets for my Preschooler who is homeschooled. Now, I can't tell you how many sheets I've ran through it, but I can tell you that I was up at 2am laminating. My kids are ecstatic! So far I've laminated math sheets, dice games, tracing papers, an entire mini preschool curriculum, memory verse cards, a placemat with Spider-Man on one side and my son's name for practicing on the other. Oh, and a cleaning chart for Mom when she's finished laminating everything in sight. May 27, 2017 They have worked perfectly for every project I've used them for. I've mainly been using them for photo projects and I can easily fit 3 4x6 photos in one sleeve and the photo seems to come out even brighter and crisper than before. Perfect thickness for laminating paper bookmarks! (other paper products) July 13, 2016 These laminating pouches are the perfect thickness to laminate bookmarks that fit comfortably between pages. I just re-ordered a pack of 200 sheets and will definitely be getting use out of them! I use them with the Scotch Thermal Laminator 2 roller system and got really great results. They're thick enough to handle easily when feeding into the laminator machine. I've laminated both 100lb coverstock as well as 80lb, so I laminate paper on the thicker side and they work amazingly well. There is a good seal and when the paper is fed correctly, no crinkling of any sort. I've never had an issue with the laminate bubbling or warping. I found the best way to feed into the machine is setting the document in the laminating pouch on top of something that is on level with the opening feed. (I use the box that the 200 pouches came in or a stack of books). This ensures a straight feed for good results everytime. The laminating pouches may be a bit opaque but once it heat sets and is fed through the machine, it comes out crystal clear. I've recently started using these to make little ID badges as well. A great product that I would recommend and will definitely be purchasing again.Over time, I will update my review for longevity and quality of the product. I am an elementary teacher and I hate how the school lamination is thin and comes off easily, even when it hasn't been trimmed too close. I used my Scotch Thermal Laminator Combo Pack, Includes 20 Letter-Size Laminating Pouches, Holds Sheets up to 8.5" x 11(TL902VP) for 2 and a half years before a rogue off-brand laminating pouch got stuck in it and essentially took it out of commission. My hubby was able to disassemble it and get it out, but the sticky residue remained. I keep it now as a backup for my Scotch Thermal Laminator, 2 Roller System, Fast Warm-up, Quick Laminating Speed (TL901C-T), and have vowed to NEVER buy off brand pouches again. Haven't had a problem since, and the cost is well worth it! The Best July 7, 2014 These are awesome. They are crystal clear and you can cut right down the middle of a single laminated sheets without it coming apart (it will come apart if you laminate two sheets back-to-back and cut too close to the papers with lamination sticking to one side of each page). WARNING: Make sure you insert the page closed-side first. If you insert the open side then you will break your laminator. True story! Happened to me because I was trying to do too many things at once and wasn't paying attention. It melted all around the rolling bar inside my laminator. Had to get a new one. BESIDES the point. But just wanted to give warning when I can. Great sheets. Great price. Love them! Nice Home Laminator June 20, 2012 My wife loves crafting and making all sorts of things. She needed to laminate some stuff and I decided we should just buy one. This unit does a really good job. I was really impressed how some items she made for a party she was planning turned out. The lamination was nice and thick and looked professional. It wasn't flimsy like some of the home laminating I have seen. The unit heats up fast, and auto feeds the pouch in. It couldn't be any simpler. This would be 5 star if they had an auto off function. Make it turn off automatically after 30 minutes or an hour at least. I keep forgetting to turn it off. Seems to be working great. didn't seal as tight as I had hoped ... March 15, 2017 Seems to be working great. didn't seal as tight as I had hoped when a folded small card was inserted, it left air bubbles on the outer edges so when cutting out the card, it unsealed when I got too close to a few edges. ... on a lightning deal on amazon and she is happy with it September 7, 2016 My girlfriend ordered this on a lightning deal on amazon and she is happy with it. It does exactly what it advertises. Her only complaint is that it takes a few minutes to fire up (most laminators do) but also the green ready light isn't exactly bright once it is ready. We already had to send one back and this is a minor issue so we're going to keep it as it performs correctly and we have a bunch of pouches for it. I would definitely recommend especially for the price, Right on, value. August 25, 2016 I have wanted a laminator for a while now. Just never could justify the price. Well this was the right price, had good reviews so why not? It works very nicely. Plug it in, do some stuff, come back in 10 mins and ready to roll. It's certainly no speed demon, but it does exactly what it should do. I laminated my local biking trail maps of Baltimore, now I don't have to worry about liquids or body fluids ruining them. I am a home school mom, so I make worksheets, this makes them reusable if you use a dry erase marker! It will do any of your smaller documents with ease. Or school seems to never have any laminating film when I need to laminate items for the class.I have bought this several times, the only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because it is really hard to erase if the students use a dry erase marker on it (even Expo). I had laminated papers for small group and it was almost impossible for the students to erase after writing on it. The thinner school laminating film works much better for that. Clear, but some warping involved. June 1, 2015 The results on my laminations come out clear, but with noticeable warping. I don't know if it is the laminate material or the inexpensive Scotch Thermal Laminator I use (I use it so infrequently that I couldn't see spending the big bucks on an expensive laminator). Perhaps when I need another package, I will look for the next thckness up. worked quite well December 31, 2012 I purchased Scotch Thermal Pouches 8.9 x 11.4 Inches, 100-Pack (TP3854-100) to use with my Provocraft book binding/laminating machine. I made a book for my niece with the pouches and it came out pretty well (if I do say so myself!) The laminated pages were much more rigid than I was anticipating (guess i"m used to the cheaper lamination the schooloffers) so I was a little worried my niece might cut herself on the edges - thankfully she hasn't.The only real complaint I have so far is that a few of the pages I have encountered had little holes or something in the plastic and while they laminated ok (I used them for practice) they didn't look that great. So you really have to pay attention and look the pouch over before you ruin any items!.FYI, I noticed it is very easy to cut the seal when trimming around the laminated items. I used a cutter to trim my pages but didn't notice the seal wasn't always a "perfect" line around the object so I ended up cutting the seal. Luckily I was able to put the page back through the machine and seal it again. Three Star Reviews: | 4% Making a weird knocking noise. May 10, 2017 After the second time of using the laminator, it started making a weird knocking or clicking noise once it got hot. Still doing what it should but the noise is a bit concerning since it's only used once in awhile. I had the Royal laminator before. The Royal was ... January 29, 2017 I had the Royal laminator before. The Royal was way faster and allowed me to use heavier laminating sheets. I just did not want to pay the price. The plus with the Swingline is that it is smaller and easier to store. The Royal was VERY heavy. then I would not recommend this product August 22, 2016 Only one small complaint here. The advertising on this laminator states a quick, 4 minute warm up time which is completely untrue. I have used mine 5 or more times and each time it was close to 15 minutes before the ready light came on. Not really a big deal for me, but if you are looking for something claiming a quick warm up time, then I would not recommend this product. Decent for the price June 7, 2016 Decent enough but has a tendency to jam when using the smaller luggage tag pouches. I purchased this used, because I only needed it for 1 project. It worked well for the project, but the laminating pouches kept getting jammed because of their small size. I would have to turn off the machine, wait for it to cool off, and try to remove the jammed pouch. Eventually, I took the whole thing apart to remove one of the smaller pouches. After that, it seemed to work fine. Does the job December 27, 2015 This is a good laminator. I have two different laminators. The one down side it that it is VERY slow in comparison to other laminators. I would still recommend it if you have time to wait for it to run a piece of laminate. Two Star Reviews: | 1% Huge Letdown September 2, 2017 If you're looking for a big bang for your buck, beware. I absolutely loved this laminator and its ability to laminate larger papers. A week in, it started curling my papers at the corner. Soon after, it started jamming my papers in the middle. It has continually let me down since. I have had it for less than a month, and it's now useless! They start off working great but after a while it starts to jam August 22, 2017 I have had two of these now. They start off working great but after a while it starts to jam. Once it does that no matter how much I clean it out it continues to do so. One machine doing it is a fluke but two? I will find another brand Died after 7 items August 9, 2017 It laminates great but after laminating 7 things, it died. So now I have to call swingline and try and get a replacement. I'm not happy :( Requires many passes through to fully laminate August 2, 2017 Took at least 5 passes through the machine to remove the cloudy appearance and fully laminate photos for a children's art project. February 11, 2017 Too thin at 3mil...I'm used to thicker ones like 5 or 6 mil. So I had to double bag these - first seal in a single pouch, then put the sealed pouch in a second and laminate a second time. But I'm going to get a pack of thicker ones. These are too light & flimsy. corners curl up. July 9, 2016 I don't know if I'm doing something wrong but the corners curl up almost every time I use it. One Star Reviews: | 6% This is the worst laminator that I have ever used October 2, 2017 This is the worst laminator that I have ever used. The leading edge of the plastic gets snagged on the plastic top cover internally, which causes the item to not exit. The result looks like an accordian after I press the release button and manually pull it out. If I were not there to pull it out manually, I wonder whether it would be a fire hazard because the item is stuck inside of the unit near the heating element. Don't waste your money 🙁 September 21, 2017 Ruined after 1st attempt at laminating. Paper wrapped around roller and cannot get out. Now I can't use it. Don't waste your money 🙁 Fail September 9, 2017 Well this laminator was an epic fail! As a teacher laminating is number 1 on my list. I've had this for a year and used it often. I even brought it to school and kept it there to do all my laminating so I would not have to carry things back and forth. Well two weeks ago I was laminating items for my bulletin board and the laminator ate what I was laminating to the point where I can't release the item. It is jammed in the laminator! I will definitely not buy another Swingline laminator, and go for another Scotch laminator like the one I keep at home. Trust me, you don't want this laminator! July 18, 2017 This is the single worst product I have ever purchased. The first time I used this laminator it kept crinkling the laminating pouches and then it started to jam. When I used it, it the pages waved at me. I decided to spend the extra money and get the 5mm. When I went searching for 5mm, I ran across an off brand at 1/3 of the price. I read the reviews and decided to order it. Wow! I can't believe how much Scotch rips you off for their name. Never ever again will I buy their sheets. Do your research people. I wish I had. These did not work well for me at all. Very disappointed. September 24, 2014 These are the worse laminating pouches and I'm really surprised since they are Scotch. I had a package of Gordon laminating pouches that I had been using but cannot find on Amazon at all. They worked great! They were clear and did not pucker or bubble at all... however, these Scotch brand sheets pucker and bubble a lot. They arrived with some creases in the first several sheets, but I dug down and got ones out that were smooth and looked good. However, putting them through my laminating machine proved to be terrible. They puckered, they bubbled, they are not smooth and certainly not clear where there are ripples and bubbles. There are even some strange whitish marks appearing in between the top and bottom sheets. I am really unhappy with this purchase and will not be buying any more from this company. I thought they would be as good, if not better, than the last brand I purchased since it was not a top-notch company brand, but I am really disappointed with these. I'm trying to use them as I need them badly, but they are really not good quality at all.
