Side by Side Comparison of: Pure Line vs EcoAqua

I was looking for a less expensive MWF compatible filter for my GE Refrigerator. I found one and ordered it, but it didn't work. By the time I got around to installing it the return window had passed. So I tried one more time to find a less expensive option to the GE manufactured filter. I ordered the Pure Line MWF filter and it arrived promptly in two days via Amazon Prime. My GE Made filter was by this time dispensing water by the drop. I quickly unwrapped the Pure Line filter and added some tap water to it per the instructions and installed it. Immediately my water dispenser began gushing clear clean water with volume and velocity I hadn't seen since the refrigerator was new. I am very happy with this purchase and hope they remain in business so I can reorder future filters so long as this refrigerator lasts.

I have been using this in place of a GE filter for almost six months now. I have ordered a second one as it is almost time for the light to come on again. The filter has performed well and I have had no issues with it. As far as I can tell it filters just as well as the GE one at a much lower price.

Good filters - work well and give a nice stream of water. Water tastes great and I did not have any issues using them.I have tried other kinds of compatible filters and these work best and I don't see any difference between these and the real ones.I like the stickers that show the replacement date.

After purging quite a few cups of water, close to 3 gallons as the box says the water is crystal clear and tastes crisp as expected. Wish I had some plants to water with the waste... I'm glad the description lists some of the things that it's tested to filter out. The other filters available don't list what is filtered, so you don't really know what you're buying, could just be an empty plastic shell with a coffee filter for all you know.

This filter works perfectly and gives out great tasting water!!! It was quite the event installing it as I wasn't aware that taking off the old filter would cause massive water spewing everywhere with force, so I flooded my fridge before I got this filter on... Would have been nice to have been warned about that on the instructions, to turn off water supply or something! But after getting it installed and flushed, it tastes great, has good pressure, and I'm very pleased with my purchase!!

Had to replace my GE MWF Filter but hated paying the $50 price tag that goes along with it. Read the reviews on this product and most gave it a high ranking. Thought we'd give it a try. One thing no reviewer commented on was how good the water tasted. We've been parting out this filter for several years now and tried a Brita replacement filter at one point. It was less expensive that the GE but the water taste wasn't as good. With this filter, the entire household agrees that it's the best tasting water we've had. So combine the lower price (< 1/2), 2 day prime delivery and great tasting water, it's a fantastic deal!

We have been using these since we bought our new house 3 years ago and they work great for us. I never tasted the water from our refrigerator with the filter that we are supposed to use based on what the manufactures says we are supposed to use, but I can only say that our water tastes like water, which is all I'm really asking for.

So happy to have found generic filters that work! These are a fraction of the price and I haven't noticed any differences. Water tastes the same and dispenses at same rate (which is slow on our fridge but that was the case with the name brand as well). Mine lasted the whole 6 mos- the change filter light came on right around the 6 mos mark and I didn't notice any change in taste or dispense rate. I am actually about to order these again as I just put in my last one- it's so nice to know that you have a backup ready when that light comes on (and that it didn't cost a fortune)!

These are our 'go-to' filters when we need replacements. I have re-ordered these filters for some time now. They work great with our GE that is about 7 years old now. And, if you have an Amazon Echo, you can simply ask Alexa to reorder for you - the next thing you hear is the ding of an incoming email confirming your order. It doesn't get any easier that this.

Works great, no difference from expensive OEM part. Installed same and have been using daily with no issues at all. Was very anxious that might have complication (fit, clogging, flow, etc.) but have none. Not sure why I need to replace my filter every 3months, since the regular tap water looks fine, but this will be a MUCH more cost effective option for my GE Cafe fridge. Wish I found this product a year ago.The seller was excellent, delivered promptly-no issues at all!Will definitely reorder.

Update, 10/27/15: These have been perfectly great filters, our water from the refrig dispenser comes out crystal clear and what I/you would expect of good clean water and fresh tasting. My previous order was 3 of them, I just inserted the last one and I'm preparing to order some more for the future. Or GE refrigerator tells us when it needs to be replaced, 6-8 months, depending if we've been gone on vacation or not.I'm not even going to look at any other brand as we are extremely pleased with EcoAqua. Last time I ordered a 3 pack was a better deal, today a 2 pack is cheaper... and as always I love ordering from Amazon!When our refrigerator needed a new filter I checked here on Amazon, which I always do first, and found these filters.They are a lot less cost than the GE brand, they fit perfectly and are doing an excellent job of filtering our well water. I can pour a glass of water from the sink faucet and one from the filtered refrigerator, the filtered is nice and clear and clean tasting, the sink glass isn't so clear. I highly recommend these filters.

I've always been a firm believer in using OEM replacement parts and filters in the past. However, I just can't see spending $50 every six months on a water filter for my fridge. So I figured I would try these. I purchased this 3 pack for what I would pay for one OEM filter from GE. This filter installs the same and is about the same size as the GE filter. I ran about 3 gallons of water through it before drinking as they recommend in the instructions. Honestly, the water quality is great. I can't tell any difference in the taste from this fllter or the GE filter.If you're looking for a high quality, low cost replacement to the OEM filter in your fridge, this is your filter!

Great deal for the price. It is highly pressurized when you first put it in, just be sure to follow the instructions so you don't have to take it back out. Also, the instructions say to run 3-4 gallons of water out of it after installation. It did have a weird taste the first couple days, but it went away and the water tastes great now. I think a lot of other reviews didn't follow instructions or give it any time. The water flow is now better than ever as well for my ge fridge.

I was really excited to get a replacement filter for less but when it came I could not install it. I tried all of the suggestions but to no avail. But my father got it on his first try. I don't know what he did differently but I have been happy with it since. Will I buy it again? Yeah probably but I'll get help to do it. The water tastes fine

We love the price, and the filter looks identical to our GE filter, except for the configuration on top which makes it compatible with various manufacturers’ refrigerators. The filter, however, was at first difficult to fit into our GE refrigerator. After fifteen minutes of frustration, I removed the 2 top fridge shelves so I could look up into the refrigerator’s receiving socket and match that with the filter’s top outlines. It would have been much easier if this filter was marked with an arrow (as is the original GE MWF filter) that aligns with the marking on the GE refrigerator filter housing. Then you know where to push up. Perhaps markings could be placed on this filter and ID'd for all—or most— of the machines which the filter can fit. Anyway, having made a match for the fit, I found that I had to push extraordinarily hard to move the filter upward until I heard water being released by the fridge. After you realize that they haven’t sent the wrong filter, you’re going to be very satisfied with this filter, assuming it performs on a par with the original.

This was our first time replacing the filter, as the refrigerator is new to us, and we've never had a "water-connected" refrigerator before. Changing the filter was so simple, but I did find it curious that the accompanying literature told me to first remove the foil seal from the top -- and there WAS none there. We went ahead & used it anyway. Thank you for your prompt fulfillment and delivery of our order -- it even arrived on a Sunday, which was a big & pleasant surprise to us.

Great price on this filter - about half the cost of an original GE filter. Easy to change. I just ran about 5 glasses of water to get it to run clear.I bought this for a GE side by side Arctica and it fits perfectly. Would give it a 5 star rating but just installed it a few days ago and not sure how long it will last.

I bought this filter for our GE refrigerator. The filter was very easy to install but it would have been nice if they put a mark on it indicating where to start when screwing it into the receptacle.The flow from this filter is very good. After installing it I ran about 1 gallon of water through the filter to ensure it was clear of any chemicals/impurities related to production. This item did not come with any directions but it did have stickers that can be used to show when you install it and help you remember when to re-order (if your refrigerator does not have an automatic alert when filter needs to be replaced).The price point on this filter was about the best that I was able to find and I will be re-ordering from this company in the future.

These filters work well. No need to pay 3x the price for a GE filter. Filters need changing and you could spend a fortune for genuine GE -- or play it smart and buy these filters. Word of caution: they do not come with "O" rings so save your old one.

I put off getting replacements because thry are spendy and our water isn't terrible but hubby stopped drinking water so I thought it would be best to order. For $43 I got 3 and they are suppose to last 6 months each. When I first had my hubby install and I used it for the first time the water went crazy and came out extremely fast and splattered everywhere. Getting a glass of water is quite loud now compared to our old one. And by loud I mean loud. I thought the back of our fridge had a leak... it comes out faster still age many uses but does not splatter anymore. I'm happy to have a replacements though!

Great price, water flow good, clarity good, no bad taste. Just installed so need more time to evaluate further. Don't see any difference from the Home Depot or the GE filters. Do wish it were 'Made in USA' however. Really prefer to buy products made here and support our workers unfortunately GE wants to make too much on this supply for what the cost is. Home Depot's is better priced and appears as equal at this time however it is still quite a bit more expensive.

May not be "certified" as highly as name brand, but certification is expensive. I suspect the inside of all of them is just an activated carbon filter, and they are all pretty much the same (except for the one's people actually complain about.) (I haven't cut one open to look). Housing isn't as fancy or heavy, but it works and doesn't leak. No taste or odor problems. Just a filter, lots cheaper.

This is a "faith" review. By that I mean I guess this filter is doing its job but that is because I have faith. It's impossible to look inside the canister and evaluate the filters effectiveness. I also don't have the ability to do a laboratory analysis. However it did install as advertised and visually the water looks good and I can not detect any difference in taste. So as I said, "I have faith that this GE Compatible Water Filter MWF GWF is doing its job."

Very good price, but has some water flow issue (slow off and on). Still better than the GE pure filter, no flow at all sometimes.

The filter works fine and the price is definitely right.For some reason when the water runs, it's much more noisy than the name brand filter.

Spit out some gray gunk when first installed for first gallon or so. Has worked fine for a couple months since.

Kind of sloppy fit. Harder to get tight connection, but it can be done and no leaks. I used the second washer off the old filter to do this!

Seems to be ok as I don't notice any change in the taste. However, I did have some difficulty installing it which I didn't have with a previous generic GE filter...only time will tell with this new filter.

Excellent price. Have been using one for a few weeks now, water still tastes a bit off. Now, the city water that is feeding it isn't exactly up to par either. Maybe the next one will taste better. I didn't have this taste with other filters. But water quality is always all over the place here. Always on boil notice... would be great if they would let me know, but I find out eventually

This water filter did a great job for about four months, then I began periodically noticing a metallic off taste, of the sort that I get from my tap water whenever the water company has just treated the water. In the past, using GE filters, I had routinely changed the filter every six months without any off taste occurring, even when I had another family living with me for a couple of years. The EcoAqua filter developed the off taste after just four months, even though I now live alone, so am using a lot less water.

wish i had talked to my GE repairman before I purchased these. The GE filters are much better rated and take many more things out of my water.I got them on sale from the GE repairman for the same price on sale.Thought I was getting a good deal but my fault. Live and learn. I was happy with the filters until he showed me the good housekeeping article.

The price for these filters was outstandingly cheap compared to the competition and especially brand name. Unfortunately, my family and I can taste something like charcoal in the water, something I've never tasted with other brands. I'm still going to use the filters and hope that the taste doesn't equate to health risks.

comparing costs of a factory GE filter to these units it was a no brainer on what to purchase. Both are the same carbon block composition so I couldn't see the added cost of the GE unit

I wouldn't buy again. It fit correctly, instructions were fine, it didn't leak or clog up. There was no cloudiness or particles. But the water tasted just like tap water, as if there was no filter at all. I use a counter top Britta filter for coffee and the water from the Britta tastes much better. I had a different brand (not GE or Kenmore) fridge filter before that had better tasting water.

If it tastes bad and stays tasting terrible, it is terrible. Have to wonder what a test of the water out of this would reveal!ProIt's cheapConIt tastes cheap

On the plus side the water comes out much faster than the standard GE filter this replaced, however, the taste is noticeably different and does not have as clean of a taste as the OEM GE filter.I would avoid this filter as the water taste is the most important factor for my family.

Product fit, but no water would come out. Also caused our fridge to make a disturbing loud noise when the water lever was pushed in. Picked up a genuine GE filter at Walmart and it worked fine.

Didn't work. Tried soaking it first like suggested. Did not allow water to go through dispenser. Tried holding dispenser down for a few minutes and still nothing. Returned for refund.

Bought a 3 pack a long time ago, the first filter install was great with only a slight difference compared to GE brand filters. However, the issues started 6+ months in when I replaced the 1st filter with #2 of the 3 pack and the water flavor was horrible. Instead of tasting like filtered water, I can only describe the the flavor as "filter soaked" water. I did give the filter a chance by running through roughly 25-30 gallons, hoping the initial bad taste would pass but it never did.I finally gave up and replaced #2 with #3 of the 3 pack hoping that the flavor issue was a rare oddity, especially given the numerous 5 star reviews of other customers. Unfortunately, the #3 filtered water flavor was just as bad (but different in its own way).At this point I can not recommend these as a viable alternative to the GE brand filters. What was initially thought to be a bargain purchase based on a price comparison to the GE brand filters and my positive experience with filter #1, quickly turned into a negative review when 2 of the 3 filters in the pack are terribly flawed by imparting a terrible taste onto the filtered water.

For those that are looking for OEM or some super duper filter, what are you looking at this product for?!?! Spend the money that will filter out everything under the sun...I'm in NY, my water is clean as it is from the tap...Edit: it's been a few months now, and I've noticed this filter is quite temperamental. Sometimes the water will flow fine, other times the water is almost at a trickle. Poorly made. Will probably go back to another brand.

Updating the review of this product. SOME of the filters received worked perfectly (at a fraction of the cost of name brand). While others would cause the water from the refrigerator to come out VERY SLOWLY after about 3 weeks. Removing and reinstalling did not fix the problem. Putting a new filter in did fix the issue, some of the times.

I installed the filter per the instructions on the side of box. I tried to pour some water and I got about 4 oz before it stopped. ok..... wtf. So I tried to reset the filter by holding the button on the fridge for 3 seconds. Still no water. So I tried to remove the filter and BOOM. There was back pressure and the filter popped. Damn thing cracked the filter holder in my fridge, but didn't damage it to the point of not functioning. Upon further inspection there is a small clear gasket inside of the filter top, I don't know if that came from the old filter or the new one. I removed that and reinstalled the filter. It works, my fridge is damaged but it's just aesthetic (I hope).

The first two filters worked fine. After I installed the third one the water tasted just like it does from the tap. I ran a few gallons through to make sure. It was pretty bad. So I replaced it with the expensive GE one and the water tasted fine again. So I guess the fantasy of saving money on filters isn't going to work out for me.

At any price, this compatible water filter was a waste of time and money. I purchases 3 to get a really good price, and it turned out to be a real bad purchase at any price. The filter seemed to install fine, but within a week or two, Yuk, Yuk, the water started tasting awful. Replaced it with the 2nd of three purchased, and it resulted in the same experience. Installed fine and water taste improved but within a couple weeks the water tasted like Yuk again. Replaced the 2nd with the 3rd of 3, and the water improved taste for a week or two and returned to Yuk tasking water. Thinking something must really must be wrong, I cut one filter in half with my saw. It all looked clean and nothing obviously jumped out. without resources to test the carbon filter for defects or impurities, the Yuk taste from all 3 filters was all I had to rate this product 4 THUMBS DOWN. (Can I count my two big toes as thumbs?). Some other reviewers complained of restricted water flow. My guess is the carbon filter may be sub-grade, or damaged during assembly, resulting in fragments of filter material clogging the water flow. Others have mentioned the product and packaging have no signs of certification being found for the quality or standards that should be required for any water purification product. I'm very disappointed. I ordered one of these and the water trickled slowly. Even though I carefully followed the instructions. Every time I used it, I swore I should replaced it. When the light came on indicating it was time to change the filter, I decided, I probably just had a defective one and bought another of these. It was even worse. Now I've ordered the part from GE, even though it costs 4 times as much.

After installing filter, water came out dark and then a few minutes later in clear up, wish was normal. We used it for 3 weeks and the water had a funny taste since the beginning that never went away. Actually tap water was much better taste than the filtered water. Our family was getting sick of the stomach so we decided to change for an original GE Filter. After swapping filters, automatically the water changed taste and our stomach ache went away too. I can't recommend this filter, please use original GE for better health.

One star cause water has a funny taste from the very beginning, Bought this generic brand, trying to save money, not happy with it, always have bought the GE one, the generic does not filter as good as the GE, now that I have something to compare with, will never buy this brand again, will go back to GE, will pay twice as much but will be well worth it, we drink a lot of water in our house so its very important for water to have a good taste or should I say no taste.

Edit: Terrible. It always tasted a little off, but I thought it was just me. But then it got progressively worse. After just a few weeks it also began tasting grainy, which is when I was sure it wasn't my imagination and I removed it. Who knows what this unrated, unregulated knockoff was adding to our water? Who knows what I was stupidly letting my daughter ingest? Disgusting, I would have been better off just using the bypass cap and not filtering at all.I'll only buy GE OEM from now on, even though it's ridiculously expensive.------------Works.Issues:1) Took longer to flush out sediment than GE OEM. Not a big deal.2) There is no evidence it is actually filtering anything to any standard. Not certified. In fact, how do I know it isn't introducing more elements than it's filtering? Especially since we have generally very good tap water quality.3) Taste seems off? It's okay, but not the same. Although that might be a placebo effect.I don't think I'll buy again.

Bought this filter because of all the good reviews, but haven't had the same experience. Maybe I just got a bad one, but within a week of installation, the water flow rate cut in half after just a couple of ounces. Took the filter out and shook it to see if the problem was the filter or the fridge line. That fixed the problem for a couple of days then it happened again. Have now done that multiple times and the problem has gotten progressively worse - now it only lets out about one ounce before it cuts off and shaking it only fixes for a day at most.Installed a new one from Walmart - have used their Great Value brand for 2 years with no issues - the problem seems to be gone so I know the issue is with the filter not my fridge.

This water filter is made in China. I wish I had never ordered these. I do not know what my water is being filtered through. No where on the packaging does it tell you what is inside of the filter. I searched the box and the filter label itself. The filter looks well made, but it is safer to drink tap water. If you are someone that checks to see where your dog treats are made and your food is made, then do not buy these.

Doesnt take out half of contaniments real GE filter claims to. Shortly after defrost circuit blew up, left a piddle of oil on floor and repair parts are no longer available. So I bought a Whirlpool french door refrigerator. Its Type 2 filter provides better tasting water than GE.

The product arrived quickly and was well packed and the top flange APPEARS to be the same as the original GE MWF filter cartridge. I installed it in my fridge and the water immediately stopped working. I removed and re-seated the cartridge ran the line for a couple of minutes as suggested but nothing. I reinstalled the original GE MWF cartridge and then that didn't work. I tried a second EcoAqua cartridge and it also didn't work. I called a GE repair tech out and he said he sees this happen frequently where non-GE filters actually damage the water check valve. He replaced the water line and the check valve and installed a new GE MWF filter and it is working properly again. So BEWARE if you use this. It MIGHT work for you or it might break your water/ice supply as it did ours. NOT worth saving the money over the original cartridge. Lesson learned.

These filters are useless. The water is disgusting and completely undrinkable. It tastes like plastic and chemicals. Save yourself some time and just buy the GE filters. In this case, you really do get what you pay for.

Product worked well for the first month. Second month water taste bad and particles visible. Wish I hadnt wasted money. Seller contacted me about product,I informed seller that the product water filter has bad taste after 2 months use. The seller apologized and offended me by offering me 5% off future purchase.Really I don't think so

The filters arrived quickly, but they were useless in improving the taste of the water; I purchased a regular GE water filter and it is working fine. "Let the buyer beware."
