Great Kit for Price
June 2, 2014
I wasn't looking for the "pro" kit, so I was told to try out the Simmons SD1000. It was a great deal! Comes with tons of different Drum Kits, Songs, Memory and you can edit your own Drum Kit as you like!

Works well and good presets. You get a free pair of drumsticks but no drum throne so make sure you buy one.
Good feel, good sounds

Great first kit for my son! He loves that he can choose from different kits, and the sounds are pretty realistic for such an inexpensive kit. It's very user friendly and easy to set up initially. I'm having a good time with it too, and I've played the drums for years. Really nice kick pedal with good feel right out of the box.
Good stuff

Excellent! Easy to set up, sounds great!
Perfect for home recording. Worth more than what i paid for sure
February 17, 2016
I played drums for almost 20 years and always stayed away from electronic drums due to my "punk rock ethics." After a few years away from drumming and a kid, i stopped gigging and took up recording at home. I no longer had a kit and didn't have the time/money for a practice space. Instead of ticking off my neighbors, i figured i would give this kit a shot. When i opened it i was slightly disappointed. It looked short and felt lightweight, but then i got it set up and started playing. The drums sound was amazing. After 10 minutes of fiddling with the settings i got it to sound like a real kit. The bounce back feels like a real drum kit. I loved that i could swap sounds from multiple kits to create my own. Sine i used to only use a 4 piece i was able to turn the second tom into a ride and the ride into a different crash. After getting it hooked up i spent 4 hours thats night just playing. I might not recommend this for someone who wants to use it playing out. Get a real kit for that. But for something to use at home, away from the practice space, this was well worth the money.

Sounds good. Fun to play. First e-drum set I have played and I am impressed. On rare occasions drum miss triggers. Would recommend to others.

The default sounds arent great, but if you have protools and need a solution for recording, these work fine. It is annoying how the snare keeps getting loose from mild drumming, but it comes with the territory of a cheap electronic kit.

For the price it's well worth it.. Fun set
Great Bargain!

The drums are good for the price. Sounds good. But you should make your own custom preset because the ones that come with it are not super great. Also the bass pedal moves around a bit. But it's not a huge issue

A solid kit... I think.
June 6, 2016
I'm an inexperienced drummer, having only played Rock Band years ago, and gotten mildly proficient with coordinating my limbs. But I'm otherwise an experienced guitarist, and I'm very aware of drum parts.

I have no idea what to rate this yet. I've practiced a few times a day for several weeks, and I've noticed several weaknesses that the kit has, but I can't tell if they are intentional or not.

- The kick drum needs to be lined up carefully. The beater should hit as close to the center as possible, or else it doesn't trigger with much volume.
- The snare has the rim hit, which seems to be much quieter than other hits. I found eventually that the sensor for that seems to be only in one portion of the edge of the snare. And yet, the drum brain reports that it recognizes the hit.
- The hi-hat pedal is a mystery to me. The triggering sound is nice. Hitting the open hi-hat and choking it with the pedal is great. But if I try to play a beat like the one for Be My Baby, once I reach the point where the hi-hat pedal is playing every quarter note, the pedal can't keep up with it. It looks like it uses a magnetic trigger, and sometimes I can get it to trigger fast enough if I move my foot completely off the pedal and push back on fast.
- There are volume issues. Some drums are drastically louder than others. I've been running these through an amp that allows me to push some EQing, which does help. But there's a huge volume difference between the floor tom and the bass drum.

However, the pads actually feel very nice. They're just rubbery enough that there's a nice little rebound, but they don't feel sticky at all.
The pedals are designed well enough that I haven't had problems with them sliding around. The frame is very adjustable, which does help a lot.

It's good for getting my feet wet, but it does leave me wondering if I should have put more money into this.
Not that great.

Its decent because its cheap, but it is real cheap. I own a much better roland TD9 kit but wanted to stop lugging it to practice so thought this would do the trick. It’s OK but the pads are not as nice as the roland and the kick trigger misfires a little. I only use it as a big midi trigger to play samples from toontrack / slate and it does pretty good with that. If I was keeping it at studio I would have went for the one up from this because it has more zone triggers but for quick practice sessions especially amongst loud guitars the nuances don’t really matter to me that much. Sounds are terrible but so are the Rolands and most e-kits which is why I use the software. One of the lugs on the frame cracked within ten mins of having it all set up but I just couldn’t be bothered packing it up for a replacement so just taped around it. Paid $299 for it and its a OK price especially as a secondary kit but I wouldn’t call it great.
Price was great at 245$ !

While I'm fairly new to the musical instrument world , and am only versed in a "Rock band Kit" or "Guitar Hero Guitar" I was not thrilled with this set at all.The price was wonderful! I paid 245$ I believe after my employee discount and the prime instant savings. Which I couldn't beat and find anything else to compare with in this price range. The feel of the pads was great, the pedal was chain driven which was an instant plus. The cymbals felt a bit cheaper than the rest of the parts, and the rack was a nightmare to work with. The reason I'm three starring this would be because the snare on mine would constantly drop very fast rolls and ruined my experience. Is this a nice set? I'd say so for 245-260$Would I have kept this set had the snare worked? Yes

OK the good: sounds are super realistic. And there are a lot of them. You can create 5 of your own combinations and it has 10 presets. No lag or anything faulty. CHEAP! you will not, I repeat, will not find a better set for this price. There are 3 models. $300, $400, and $500. This is the low end. The aux in is great. Plug your phone in and play along to you tube drum less songs. The USB makes it easy for PC recording. I have not tested the quality yet. STURDY nothing rattles nothing moves... no matter how hard you best on it. Nice comfortable adjutments. Can easily be folded up and thrown in your backseat. 3 year factory warranty. That's a BIG plus. Brands like Alesis can leave you high and dry if something breaks.the bad: this model is NOT expandable. Can't add any extra Tom's or cymbals. Or even a guitar hero bass pedal. The cymbals and toms are NOT dual zone but the snare is. The kick pad is too small to use a double bass pedal. Have to upgrade that for $50. The next model up will allow you to add two extra items, but does not come with them. I believe the next model up is dual zone. Lastly, the pedal beater screw stripped out instantly. It's all Chinese pot metal.I'm an amature guitarist. I got this for recording my songs on my pc and it works for that. Professional sounds just doesn't have any frills.

Didn't arrive as described and kind of poor even if they were as described. I didn't like them.
July 18, 2017
It's not often I return something. I returned these. I did get them from the Amazon Warehouse at a discount. That description was not accurate. These looked like they had been the floor model in a mall during Christmas. They had been BEAT on. The one head didn't even work. I returned them. But honestly even if they were in brand new condition, I just wasn't impressed. I'm a total blank beginner at drums and I think I'd be well suited to an acoustic set. We'll have to see. I'll tell you one thing, as the guitar player in a band I'll never make jokes about how easy it is to play drums.

It's a decent kit... I use it for practice only and the bass drum always goes out. I have to solder it every day I use it and it lasts maybe one hour before the wires disconnect once again. The pads don't have much bounce. Over all decent for practice.

Less then one star..This kit and company are ripping off consumers!
November 6, 2013
I've owned Simmons last three sets including the Sd1000 and can tell you that they are complete garbage. I could see if I had trouble with one set-but we're talking three different sets and the SD1000 is by far Simmons worst kit yet!First of all, the Brain Module where all of the cords lead into, is a joke. All of the cords plug into each pad and cymbal and all lead to one "pin plug" aka VGA Connector type plug so in other words, if one of those cords leading to a pad or cymbal short out on you then, you'll have to replace all of them..I was shocked when I seen this.Simmons calls the SD1000 their flag ship model and it's evident to me that this company doesn't care about quality. Their drums are garbage and I'm telling you right now that if you read this and still buy into this brand then you're sucker. I hate to say that but it is true. Read reviews carefully, you'll find that people are having trouble with this set all over the Country.I will say this about Simmons, I've read negative reviews damning their Customer Service department however that is the only positive experience with Simmons I've had. That is up until the last time I've dealt with them. It seems they know that can't help me because if they could it would mean upgrading and replacing parts for the rest of my life! I can't get this set to work longer then 2 months before it gives out and breaks down.I believe Simmons once provided a great product in the 80's-at least for that genre of music back then but now, this stuff is just straight garbage. Sorry for the long review but on top of wanting to let consumers know about this brand, I guess I needed to vent as well but, I am telling the truth and not just trying to slam the company I know longer believe in..

Poor sound from bass and snare out of the box
February 24, 2016
I received this kit yesterday and set it up last night. I am getting very poor sound from the kick bass and from the snare. I checked all of the connections and restarted the device but did not hear any improvements. When I press the buttons on the computer I hear perfect sounding bass and snare, when I hit the pads I don't hear much. I will be reaching out to Behringer to see if they can help me to fix this. Not a great way to start out!
