Five Star Reviews: | 92% "That's not a trowel, now this IS a trowel" July 21, 2017 "This IS a trowel" It handles nicely, it's sharp enough, and heavy enough that it cuts through my dirt/soil like nobody's business, I can't imagine it ever breaking, it cleans up nicely, stays sharp, and the ergonomic design means that you can really lean into this tool without worrying it will bend or break. I mentioned my dirt/soil, I have a sunny spot perfect for Mediterranean herbs, but the dirt/soil has a lot of rocks in it, it went through almost everything, rocks too big for it to scoop out were easily dug out of the way by leveraging this thing like a big stainless steel digging bar Buy it, you won't be disappointed, I was so happy with it I bought all of the other sizes offered, tools that will pass down from one generation to the next. Excellent! Only one I've owned that hasn't broken. November 26, 2016 Ive used this for a couple years now to do any hand digging as an electrician. It is a very strong one piece design that I abuse to no end with no breaks or bends. I had a few others in the past that didn't last even a few hard uses. I pry up rocks, hammer on it, mix cement with it and show it no mercy. When I'm done a job I wash it with water and its good as new. 100% recommend for professional use. Simple and effective. September 5, 2016 I had to replace an old trowel of normal design with a short shovel, a thin neck and a rubber handle. The neck was so thin and the material so weak that the trowel bent at the neck making it impossible to put the kind of pressure on it that was necessary. This design is brilliant. It is one piece of thick metal from tip to tip bent at one end for a grip and sharpened at the other for easy penetration. This causes the neck portion to be very thick in the direction of the most stress. There are three minor flaws in the design, kind of. The first is that it is kind of long so holding the grip means that it can be difficult to apply pressure at the other end. I could see this as being a problem for old, weak or fragile people. Even so, it's not hard to just take smaller bites. The second is that I could see the grip eventually splitting and coming off, which would make it hard to use due to the edges. If this happens, I intend to put a bicycle grip in it's place. And the final flaw is one that someone mentioned earlier, that the leather strap is secured only by the rubber grip. If it pulls out, there really isn't a way to attach a new one with the design as it is. None of these things bother me at all, hence the five stars. I'm strong so the length isn't a problem for me. If the grip comes off, I'll replace it with something else and I don't use the strap so I don't care. Worst case, I can just drill a hole through the hole handle and attach a new strap. I really do think that the simplicity of the design accompanied by the thickness of the metal makes it perfect for me, but I should mention that I hate yard work and avoid it like the plague so this should last a lifetime for me 8-). Marvelous gardening tool. January 17, 2016 I bought this based on the many positive reviews already posted. The reviews were glowing about the strength and versatility of this trowel. The glowing reviews were spot on. This trowel really does seem indestructible. I used it on some virgin ground in my yard that was full of embedded rocks and small stones. This little marvel worked wonders in digging a small trench for this area. It displayed no weakness at in while doing this task, which would likely have destroyed the average garden trowel. I own the shorter 11" version and love it! I needed a little more digging depth ... January 8, 2016 I own the shorter 11" version and love it! I needed a little more digging depth and said I had to have it. This is a must have tool. Don't waste your money on cheap trowel, this one is one that will last to past down you your children and grandchildren. | 75% Impressive, reasonably sized hand hoe September 8, 2017 If you're looking for a precision weeding device while your plants are growing the Gama hoe handles the need well. Combined with a circular hand hoe and a true temper action hoe, you can basically meet all your gardening needs. The red end of the handle will come off with a little bit of use, but it doesn't hurt the performance of the hoe. While the spot weld looks weak, the unit has held up for 3 seasons now. They make large ones, but I've found them to move too much dirt and you end up tiring your wrist out faster. Extremely effective hoe. My husband saw me using it ... August 8, 2017 Extremely effective hoe. My husband saw me using it and wanted to try. He weeded the entire garden in one morning so, I would say it is very effective ; > It is probably the most effective weeding tool I have used and I've tried many. Careful because it is extremely sharp. Must have in the garden. June 7, 2017 I work both in my own garden and for others and have bought several of these through the years (my husband has to have his own, too). This, a hori hori knife and pruners are my must have gardening tools. LOVE THIS TOOL❤️❤️ May 28, 2017 Money well spent. This little tool is a life saver making my already huge weedingnoroject so much easier. LOVE THIS TOOL❤️❤️ The very best weeding tool ever! October 1, 2016 Smith & Hawkins used to sell a similar hoe, that I relied on for decades, but discontinued it years ago. Since then I've been purchasing this hoe. This is the very best replacement at a wonderful price! I use it to easily weed my flower beds. Whenever it gets dull, which isn't very often, my husband sharpens it. This tool is the best, easiest and fastest way to get rid of weeds and their roots! I'd be lost without it and that's why I always have at least 2 of them! Dirt mover December 12, 2015 In my opinion...Japanese garden tools are superior. They are generally more expensive but they are very sharp and will last a long time. Our soil is fairly hard to work and this tool will make breaking up/weeding my garden a breeze. I'm so excited that I splurged and bought a few things for "me". | 0% There are no reviews yet |
Four Star Reviews: | 6% Super solid, well built August 3, 2015 This thing is no joke. Super solid, well built, and with a point on the edge that renders this trowel a suitable weapon in the case of a zombie apocalypse. Can't go wrong with that. Splendid! December 22, 2014 Feels great in the hand and is nice and sharp. I would have loved it to be a little shorter. The shorter one is wider, too wide for me. digging tool April 25, 2014 Great tool for scooping out deeper holes when metal detecting. I have a digging trowel with a very pointed end and it works fine and is easy to push into the grass or dirt but after you get down below 4" it becomes difficult to fish the hidden treasure up -- always trying to keep the holes as small as possible, right? -- this tool then comes into play with its blunt nose, more like a scoop you go into the predug hole and pull up your treasure on the first try, nearly every time. Very good trowel November 18, 2013 Very sturdy, and I like that it was made in the USA. However, I did manage to bend it prying on a root. I don't think that is its intended use, but as a smallish person (5'4", 125lbs), I didn't think I'd be able to bend it. Thankfully it still works well, as opposed to the numerous aluminum trowels I have broken. Apparently I need to go easy on my tools. good but August 20, 2013 this is very sturdy and well made. the size ends up being a bit of a handicap, though. it is just a bit too big for maneuvering in my planter beds between plants. it is, however, perfect for transplanting. | 13% Great Little Hoe September 18, 2017 I must admit I was skeptical when I opened the package and saw the hoe. My first thoughts were, "Wow, it looks like a toy and there's not way this hoe can dig." This house was actually must better weeding out crabgrass than the standard weeder tool. I was able to get the entire root of the crabgrass with just a single whack. It's very sharp too. However, the handle is a bit short. Otherwise, it's a great hoe for the price. love, hate September 13, 2017 When you look at the picture that is shown online you are led to believe that the handle of this tool is one piece and not separately attached to the blade. I found this deceptive and had I known that it was forged to the blade I would not have purchased it . Overall it is a useful tool but not a terrific buy! It works well for weeding around small plants. I sit on a bench to save my back. Good Hoe at a Great Price June 27, 2017 This hoe is really great for the price. I haven't had any issues with it. A bigger handle would be nice for grip ease. Best hand weeder July 31, 2016 This is a great tool. It's very sturdy and sharp. After 8 or so hours of weeding it was dull but I was able to sharpen it again with no problems. The red cap comes off and I put it in my pocket until I finish weeding, but it's convenient for hanging. The handle could be two inches longer, but it's not a big deal. This weeder is great for dry or semi dry soil and weeds under 5 inches tall. It also does a great job removing grass that's creeping into the garden. I can see why it is a favorite tool for many people April 17, 2016 It is very sharp and handy. I can see why it is a favorite tool for many people. I also see why many people complain that the head comes off. The welding doesn't seem to be the best quality. But I think that I can keep this tool functioning for a long time by paying attention to that joint. | 0% There are no reviews yet |
Three Star Reviews: | 1% Didn't work for me August 26, 2017 It didn't work for me. The product is high quality. But truly uncomfortable to use. It is too narrow to lift anything properly. Although it is very sharp. The handle is a but slippery even with gloves. If the blade was a tiny bit wider, and hand handle was rubbery and maybe heavier and longer by an inch, I think this product would sell like hot cakes and work better. The blade is the highest quality I have seen, no doubt in that. To me it looks kind of a knife and works better for weeds in narrow area then a trowel. Very well made and beautiful trowel. It looks like it will last for ... August 16, 2017 Very well made and beautiful trowel. It looks like it will last for a long time. But why use leather for the strap? It does not make sense for an animal to have to die to make gardening tools. | 7% ... is attached with a spot weld that isn't very sturdy. This is a light duty tool but the ... July 15, 2016 The hoe blade is attached with a spot weld that isn't very sturdy. This is a light duty tool but the right shape for what I was looking for in a hand hoe. Crudely Made but Effective June 30, 2016 This tool consists of a sharp triangular blade tack-welded to a length of square metal bar embedded in a small wooden handle with a short rubber covering having an eyelet. The design and functionality are quite good, but the handle is a bit short for Western hands, the rubber covering falls off the handle easily, and no effort was made to smooth or refine what is a serviceable but rough weld. Not as good as Martha Stewarts - but okay. June 20, 2016 It works well, I have a tool similar to this that was Martha Stewart brand that I LOVED but unfortunately cannot find anywhere anymore. This is good, just not as good as MS version. The little rubber end of the hoe keeps coming off which is irritating, the shaft should be longer and for the price it feels a bit cheap (again, as compared to the Martha Stewart version). Give or Take.... February 8, 2015 It does what I need it to do mostly.....The first two I bought broke under use....the weld from the handle to the blade is not hefty....and stresses out before it's time. I have seen other products of the same kind that were more robust and lasted longer....but I was not able to find one of the older models....and had to settle for this one....which is adequate but not preferred.... | 0% There are no reviews yet |
Two Star Reviews: | 1% Permanently attached cord limits the usefullness. August 16, 2016 It would be nice if it had a hole for the cord with a top that could be hammered down with a mallet for hard soil or sod. The cord comes out the top, so it's in the way, and if it breaks, you're out of luck. Otherwise, it's pretty nicely made. | 3% Two Stars December 1, 2016 This is not an extraordinary tool, it broke at the weld after 3 months of use. | 0% There are no reviews yet |
One Star Reviews: | 0% A must have in the garden June 27, 2014 Do garden maint. for a living. Best tool in the my arsenal. Would suggest to any serious gardener. A weeder Needer. | 2% Love it, but didn't last August 2, 2015 I loved this hoe, but it only lasted one week before the head flew off. Great tool...until it breaks September 11, 2013 I had borrowed a tool like this and loved it. Bought this one and loved it until one day the head just broke off! I really expect more than one season from a tool. I then bought two similar ones from two other companies and so far so good...but still in the first season with them. This style weeder/cultivator is my favorite gardening tool--but will not buy from this manufacturer again. | 0% There are no reviews yet |
