Five Star Reviews: | 78% Great garden tools January 19, 2016 I really dig my new garden tools. Very sturdy and look like they will be able to take the beating like my other tools have. I like the grip on the handle; can't wait to use them. | 71% Winning the Weed War - another Asset June 1, 2017 This was one of the 'must have' tools recommended in one of my gardening sources - the wide part aids in getting a larger scope or scoop of weeds. I still use my traditional weed tools - but this won is a winner to add to the garden apparatus - perfect weed tool May 22, 2017 Someone figured out the perfect weed (esp. dandelions) tool. I have a poorly made tool with the fulcrum concept & it is the only style I have ever had that really works. This Fiskars tool is perfectly designed and I think it would take an idiot to break it. I am buying a second one before they screw it up. Love this tool April 26, 2017 Makes getting those tougher weeds out with roots intact a much easier job. Love this tool!! Makes pulling weeds so much easier April 18, 2016 I use this tool every time i need to pull one of those large nasty weeds that have been left to take over the yard. The handle is nice and large so fits my hand well and the way it is designed allows to really get down into the soil nice and deep. I have used this in hard dry dirt and it works much better than straight rod weeders. I am very pleased with this product and would recommend it to others. Works great March 7, 2016 Works great for me. Very solidly made, nice and large, with a comfy handle. The curved shape makes a convenient fulcrum for popping out the weeds.I know that a few have complained that, because it's made of stiff aluminum rather than malleable steel, there's a chance that you might break off (rather than bend) one of the fork tines if you encounter a submerged rock or root while weeding. Indeed that MIGHT be an issue, but I still prefer the lightweight aluminum and it certainly looks and feels very strong in that area. I'll simply stop prying if it gets so hard that I think there might be a breakage possibility. Great Weeder February 17, 2016 My wife has had a weeder from Brookstone for many years and wanted another one to keep in the back yard. This design of weeder is fantastic because it creates leverage to pull the weed out by the root. Simply stick the tool into the ground next to the stem, rock back, and the weed is out of the ground ready to pick up. I noticed some comments from other reviewers that it doesn't work well in rocky ground that is too hard for the tool to penetrate, nor when the weed stalk is too large to fit into the slot. That should not be a surprise. This tool is to use in a "garden" to remove the plants you don't want and keep the plants you do.Amazon sells two similar weeders:Fiskars Softouch Weeder (7060) Fiskars Softouch Weeder (7060) $13.99GUP Gardening HW-01 Garden Weeder $12.99 (although it was $10.99 when I purchased it)They are nearly identical. That is, the aluminum castings are identical, but the plastic handles are slightly different. Since they are aluminum, they NEVER RUST!In the photos, the Fiskars is black & orange, the GUP is blue & black. Seriously, the only difference I found in the aluminum was the Fiskars has "China" stamped on the bottom (which it should), and I did not come across the country of origin on the GUP. (Is there any doubt?) The GUP has more pronounced "finger places" on the plastic handle than the Fiskars, and the hanging slot on the GUP is slightly larger than the Fiskars. GUP came packaged in a box (good for wrapping if you want it for a gift), whereas Fiskars came loose. In the past, Home Depot has carried the Fiskars hand weeder for under $6. Right now, the Home Depot web site says, "not sold in stores." Maybe it's a seasonal thing. If you've never tried one of these, do yourself a favor. They are GREAT. Buy whichever one is less costly on Amazon when you shop. | 70% There are no reviews yet |
Four Star Reviews: | 22% Comfortable garden tool handles with a secure grip October 5, 2015 This set of garden tools has easy-to-grip rubberized handles that fit my small hands well. The more comfortable handles cause fewer blisters and are less likely to be dropped even when wet. The set consists of four items: a large spade, a small spade, a hoe, and the prong tool used to lever weeds up by their roots (or aerate the soil). Both the hoe and the prying tool have widely-spaced prongs (too much so in my opinion). The metal of the blades has an anti-corrosion coating. Their handles have a hole in the end for hanging up in the tool shed. They are quite sturdy, though the blades would be of more use to me in our rocky mountain soil if they were sharper. I've enjoyed preparing my flowerbeds for winter with this set of garden tools.I was provided this product in exchange for my honest opinion, and my words are my own. | 15% This is a great weeder. July 5, 2017 This is a great weeder. I bought it as a gift for my daughter-in-law. She lives in Alaska and says it has made weed removal a breeze. I bit disappointed that the metal is aluminum instead of stainless steel like other Fiskars products. Good sturdy weeder July 4, 2017 Good sturdy weeder. Hard clay of North Texas has not bent this unit as many others have done. Good product. Works April 25, 2017 Not as versitle/agile as the small think "scratch weeder" however this works better for large weeding Great little Tool to Pop out Weeds June 8, 2016 This is a very handy tool to have when you are in the mood to attack some dandelions! Lightweight with a comfortable grip. Simply stick the blade into the soil under the root and give a light tug. Somehow much more satisfying than weeding by hand...perhaps because your hands stay clean! Will rust if exposed to a night out in the rain, but i have found that to be the case of all the Fiskars garden tools I own. Keep your Fiskars dry! Dandy Tool for Dandelion Removing May 27, 2016 I dug two bags of dandelions (lawn and garden large paper bags) full in a day with this tool. Had I used one of the other, more flimsy tools I may have dug a dozen dandelions at best before snapping it. On this one, first day (but, 100's of dandelions), I broke one of the two prongs off. The next day the other came off. Best design for a hand-digger I've seen yet, but needs improvement. Bought two more at the hardware store. So far, so good with those. Solid Weeder November 22, 2014 I was torn on buying a weeder because I felt like it is something that I could/should be able to do myself. I found out, however, that many weeds extend deep into the ground and can be challenging to fully extricate from the soil. So, I bought this and it has definitely made it easier to take out some of the larger more robust weeds. My one note is that the tip of it probably should be slightly narrower to allow for easier digging in harder soil. It's a minor complaint, but something I found myself thinking time and time again. Anyway, this tool is a good value for the price, solid quality, and I would recommend it. | 16% There are no reviews yet |
Three Star Reviews: | 0% There are no reviews yet | 6% New or Used...? April 26, 2016 Item looked like it came used. Tip was already scratched. Nevertheless, its going to be scratched using it anyway. Comfortable and worked well until the tips accidently hit the ... April 15, 2016 Comfortable and worked well until the tips accidently hit the sidewalk and broke off. If you were careful and didn't use them near the edge of your garden they would be great. I had a fantastic weeder that sadly snapped in the middle of the ... March 19, 2016 I had a fantastic weeder that sadly snapped in the middle of the metal (not this brand) which led me on a hunt to find the best new weeding tool. This is what I found and eventually purchased after looking at reviews. It is durable and easy to hold, but I much prefer a longer skinny part at the end so it can pierce the soil further than this tool allows. I ended up with a lot of snapped dandelion roots last summer during it’s use, whereas my old one would pull out the tap root beautifully. Sigh. I’m still on the hunt... Weeder that's best for hard soils February 8, 2016 Soft soil limits the effectiveness; the bend in the weeder pushes off the ground to provide leverage, only it works better in theory than practice. Not good for getting weeds amongst flowers and ground cover. June 24, 2015 Real simple: it's hard to get to weeds amongst other flowers. After using it for 15' I went back to the method that works: pulling the weeds by hand. I did not have any dandelions to use it on and I can see where it would work much better than pulling dandelions! It simply isn't what I need for my type of weeding. I might as well use the weeder with a V shaped head like this that I have on a long handle....much easier. | 8% There are no reviews yet |
Two Star Reviews: | 0% There are no reviews yet | 4% Worked great until it broke. September 4, 2017 Maybe a forged shank would be stronger. My ground is watered regularly and isn't hard. The tool was really effective at getting most of the dandelion root. I used it for about 45 minutes before it broke. Not typical for this brand, in my experience. Weeder blade is too thick June 20, 2016 Tool fits nicely in your hand but difficult to penetrate heavy soil. I prefer my older weeder which has a straight and thin blade with a notched end but I like the handle grip on this tool. It is also very sloppy- getting dirty and staying dirty even after the wash January 31, 2016 Very fat handle makes it difficult to use especially if you have to weed for a while. This thick handle not only too fat for the woman's palm it makes the tool much heavier to use it. It is also very sloppy- getting dirty and staying dirty even after the wash. I will try to cut this black handle off - in any way it is not usable for me.I have the same type of aluminum gardening tools without those plastic additions on the handles - just aluminum handles and they are great. I also have aluminum gardening tools with just thin plastic coating on the handles - they are also great. But this one - just the waist of the money. I put two stars because I love those aluminum gardening tools in general - otherwise it should be one star. Boo! Broken on the first use! August 12, 2014 Alas, it broke one of it's two "teeth" the very first time I used it! I was sorely disappointed, since I've usually been very happy with Fiskar's quality. i used to have a fork/weeder that worked much better August 23, 2013 Can't find the kind I used to have. The fork was deeper and you could get really deep in the soil and pull out the weed, root and all. This product is okay but I never reach for it because it really doesn't do the job. One reason i bought it was that it has a life time quarantee being a fiskar product but......................it wont wear out, i never use it. I've been spoiled with my old one. August 23, 2013 These are okay but I don't like the stubby-ness (is that a word???) of these. In fact I forgot I still have them because I've been using my old-reliable longer-handled 70's weeder. They don't get deep enough on some weeds and mess up the grass/whatever around them. | 3% There are no reviews yet |
One Star Reviews: | 0% There are no reviews yet | 4% USELESS October 22, 2015 A totally useless product! Seriously, nothing actually happened when I tried uprooting a weed. I went back to my plain 20 year old model. Not For Use in Rocky Soil! March 15, 2015 Yes, this is solid metal (albeit aluminum), but it still broke the VERY FIRST TIME I used it. We do have very rocky soil here in western Washington where I live, I so probably shouldn't have expected anything but solid steel to last. Still, it leaves you with a bad taste when an item breaks in the first 30 seconds when used as intended. Would probably do much better in sandy soil, clay, or loam. Buyer beware if you live in the Northwest or any similar area with extremely rocky soil. While I have enjoyed other fiskers products July 9, 2014 While I have enjoyed other fiskers products. This weed puller did not work very good. The handle is to short. Therefore not giving you good leverage for pulling weeds. Plus after pulling about 30 weeds, the fork snapped. Next time I will buy steel vs. Aluminum. | 3% There are no reviews yet |
