The only downfall is that the camera is on the side in the vents. I was hoping for one that shot straight down.

Or it could be great and I just need to lower my expectations.January 16, 2015 I had purchased "VideoSecu Color CCD Smoke Detector Covert Hidden CCTV Security Camera Wide Angle" off Amazon a while back and was now looking for a cam with a better picture. I ordered this one and so I was going from 420TVL in the VideoSecu to 620TVL in this one. The clarity was slightly better I admit, but I was expecting a much bigger difference.
Pros:
Cheap
Slightly clearer image than the VideoSecu
Visually more appealing than the VideoSecu
Actually a real working smoke detector
Camera is angled down more than the VIdeoSecu, so you can see closer in.
Cons:
Needs more light to be in color than the VideoSecu
Camera is angled down more than the VIdeoSecu, so you cannot see as far away.
Wishlist:
Manually able to adjust the angle
Manual override switch to keep it in color no matter the lighting.
Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be many more options in smoke detector cams out there. If I can't find a better one with more research, I'll probably end up ordering another one for the kitchen. Four StarsNovember 6, 2014 Works good with light. Smoke detector works on this camera. | | | | |

I thought this was a wi-fi or at least recorder ...March 26, 2016 I thought this was a wi-fi or at least recorder and I could pull off of the removable disk. It is just a camera. It requires extra parts (like a cable to run it to a monitor and a monitor and a d/c plug for a proper installation.
