... am a coffee freak and always looking for the perfect cup of coffee
May 27, 2017
I am a coffee freak and always looking for the perfect cup of coffee. The Thunder Bolt dark roast delivered beyond my expectations, this was an absolutely excellent cup of coffee, one of the best I have ever had in fact and that is saying something. I am always in search of a "better cup" and this is it. You won't be sorry if you try it. And it was roasted the day before it arrived at my house!!!
Just as expected and more!

As a severe coffee Enthusiast, this bean is eccentric in every way. Incredible flavor, consistency, and great crema delivery. This is my GO TO bean for my morning espresso and believe me, I have tried almost all there is to try. Always a great product and always delivered on time.

Great people to do business with!
May 2, 2017
Not only is the coffee delicious, but the seller cakes the time to graciously educate their customers about the best way to achieve superb results when brewing their coffee. I purchased the coffee in tandem with a bean grinder and enjoyed a wonderful cup of coffee for my old drip coffee maker. Great people to do business with!
Koffee Kult is my new addiction
April 27, 2017
When you think about ordering coffee on the interweb one might be apprehensive. I can ensure you this product is no joke. My coffee addiction has rewarded me with travels around the world and sampling some great and not so great coffee. Koffee Kult dark roast has a fantastic robust flavor which leaves me asking, where has this place been hiding all my life. I ordered this item before and made the move to go big and am very happy with my 5 pounds of quality coffee that will serve me well as I am in my graduate program and am up doing classwork late into the evenings
Just ordering my second bag
January 25, 2015
I'm not a coffee snob, but do prefer a darker roast. I've been trying different coffee beans for the last year after Eight o' clock coffee changed something about their Columbian beans in addition to the name change to "Columbian Peaks." It turned from a smooth darkish cup of coffee I've been using for at least ten years to one with an acidic aftertaste that I can't bear.

After trying at least a dozen other coffees over the last year, I ordered Koffee Kult's dark roasted beans in December and am now ordering a second bag. Smooth, full-bodied and rich. I think I've found my new favorite coffee bean.

My wife and I have tried many different brands of coffee the last 30 years. Our search was over once we tried Kicking horse. It's our one and only brand now . It's our base for bullet proof coffee.
This Is Coffee/Organic/Free Trade/Deep Rich Flavor
September 17, 2016
As the description says, this is one "kick ass" coffee. I consider myself a coffee gourmet and Kicking Horse Coffee checks off all the boxes for taste and quality. Rich and dark, the way I like it. When you open the package, the beans are dark and oily and you get a whiff of chocolate--thats the test for good coffee. Loved it so much, I have it on subscription delivery. This bulk package is a great value, as well. Where I would normally use 5-6 scoops per pot, with Kicking Horse I only use 4 scoops of coffee. Must not forget to mention that its an organic and Fair Trade product. If you like your coffee dark, rich and full-bodied, then order up some Kicking Horse. I promise that it won't bite after kicking your butt awake in the morning.
Lush, aromatic roast with smooth finish and hints of baker's chocolate = superior recommendation
September 3, 2016
(*Reviewer's note--I bloody well didn't receive anything from anyone for this review, and neither should anyone else. There). If you're reading this, you're a coffee purist like I am (others call us snobs, but we all know better.) And like me, you've been disappointed all too often by recommendations that have led you to more of the same-- acidic, flat, unremarkable brews. Starbucks, Coffee Bean-- even Peet's can be overrated, and the only thing they consistently provide is inconsistency. However, the 454 from Kicking Horse, while a bit pricier than our usual fare, is worth every penny. It's a delicious, lush roast with hints of baker's chocolate, a smooth finish, and very low acidity. In sum, it's a superb coffee. In my quest for the ultimate cup--which is not over, but has dramatically narrowed--I also found some terrific advice to really getting the most mileage out of your beans.First, a burr grinder really does make a difference. I used my old blade grinder for years, and my coffee was always decent. However, the more I read, the more I thought about trying one. I bought a Cuisinart, the $45-ish jobby. Short story is that instead of pulverizing the same beans over and over, which makes your grind size inconsistent, it grinds the beans once as they pass into the hopper, and you can control the coarseness. I'd get one.Next, search online for articles about how much coffee to use; there's lots of great info abounding. Boiled down, they say that bean to water ratios matter, and they're right. It's 55 grams of coffee to one liter of water. Sounds like a pain to measure, but it's not. Once I got a cheap scale here on Amazon ($10 or so) I figured out how much my press and carafes held, and used some basic math to dial in the right amount of coffee. It was easy, and our presses and carafes hold similar volumes. Anyway, I just poured the beans into a measuring cup, took note of the mark, and put the scale away.I also tried veering away from my permanent gold filter. Sacrilege, maybe, but my wife likes her coffee less gritty, and I wondered if sacrificing the natural oils vs. the grit was a good trade. It was. In fact, I'm coming to prefer the paper filter taste (Melitta non-bleached), or rather, the texture, over the gold filter. I still like the permanent filter, although my French press beats them both. Medium-course grind from the Cuisinart, six minutes in sub-boiling water, stir once, and it's like nothing I've had before. Sinfully aromatic, big mouthfeel, and eminently enjoyable. I don't think I've had a better cup of coffee. It also makes a great pot of drip, noticeably better. And regardless of what anyone says, your own preferences are paramount. What's best is what you like the most. Drip, press, single cup it--choose your weapon. But I'm burying the lead--the quality of the beans makes the cup more than anything else, and the Kicking Horse 454 is superior to most coffees I've had; it vastly outclasses all the bitter slop we've been led to believe tastes good. I've also tried the Kick Ass, and I prefer the 454. It's roastier and richer. I've also noticed that some reviewers say that the 454 tastes burnt, heavy, etc. Of course, we all have our own taste buds, but I respectfully submit that this is bunk. The 454 is my new mainstay because I dislike burnt, heavy coffee as much as I dislike weak, acidic coffee. The 454 has exceptional balance. If nothing else, it's worth your while to try it, and experiment with your brewing methods like I did. I've finally arrived at a consistently excellent brew, and I'll warrant your thoughts about coffee will change if you do the same.
It's a great coffee to use in an espresso machine
June 27, 2016
I have been buying this coffee for a couple years now. It's a great coffee to use in an espresso machine. I make iced lattes and it has a good flavor and is not bitter at all. You do have to dial in your machine to your specific tastes, but I've found for my tastes pulling a shot between 23-25 seconds leaves a nice full flavor with no burnt taste or bitterness. To me it has a chocolate under note and it's strong enough to mix with milk without killing the flavor. This price recently went up a lot for some reason. As long as the price goes back down I will continue to buy this coffee.Note: I buy the whole bean and only grind the amount I need for the espresso shot. I also store it in an air tight container to keep the freshness as long as possible.
You'll get hooked like I did!
May 13, 2016
All the Kicking Horse coffees are great! I don't get heartburn, and love the strong tastes. This is a medium roast that is a great change from their dark roasts. My usual brew is 454 Horse Power or Kick Ass, but sometimes I want something a bit milder, but satisfying. Three Sisters and HooDoo Joe, do the job.BTW- I got my sister-in-law hooked on it! She has been brewing Three Sisters, exclusively, for years!
Ridiculously good
June 16, 2015
I love this coffee. It's ridiculously good. I drink the Kick Ass Dark Roast, and it really does kick ass. Seriously. There's not as much choice if you insist on fair trade and organic, which I usually do. But that's okay, because I've found my coffee. I like my coffee really dark and really strong but not acidic and not sticking to my teeth. This doesn't taste burnt or tarry at all. I brew it in a french press, which lets all the wonderful oils come through, and I'd highly recommend that over an automatic machine that filters out the aromatic oils and keeps the coffee on heat for hours (blech!) Drink it while it's hot and fresh. Brew a second pot rather than a pot that's been sitting there for hours to do it justice. It's good enough reheated, but that first, fresh cup will knock your socks off.

Glad I kept trying with this roast.
July 23, 2017
Now that I've learned to make a decent espresso with my new machine, the Breville Barista and, after feeling very disappointed with this roast the first six or seven tries, I can now say that, properly prepared (which holds true for any coffee, of course) this is a really wonderful roast. I'm pulling ristrettos, more-or-less, and with a number five grind over a longish period (more than 30 seconds for a ristretto, from my limited coffee knowledge, is pretty long). My coffee-water ratio is just a bit off of 1:1, say 1 coffee to 1.1 water. I got a wonderful, round, chocolaty payoff for my efforts, just as I like it.
Decent coffee, terrible bag.
December 18, 2016
I like the coffee, it is pretty good. Smooth dark roast. It's not my favorite (I prefer Peet's Major Dickason's Blend or DeathWish) but is worth buying more than once. I took one star off not for the coffee itself but for the bag. Now this could have just been the one bag that I got, so YMMV. The front of the bag has a ziploc seal, and the bag I got was just about the most frustrating thing I have ever tried to close. The way the bag was manufactured caused the halves of the ziploc seal to be misaligned, making it nearly impossible to close. I am an engineer with decent dexterity and it took me 6 tries to close the bag one time. Another time it seemed like it was closed and it wasn't, and I accidentally left it unsealed. If the resealing system is bad, it defeats the entire point of offering a resealable bag.

If you buy this, ignore the ziploc seal and open the bag from the top as usual, you will probably get a better seal by folding the bag over and using a bag clip than you would with the ziploc on here, and it will save you the frustration.
Great Coffee
March 1, 2016
I figured on trying a different coffee for a change, I normally buy Lavazza Gran Filtro Dark Roast - Whole Coffee Beans which is a great coffee. Koffee Kult dark roast was a few dollars more, but from the reviews I wanted to try it. I am very happy with the purchase. I love dark roast coffee's I use the pour over method of brewing coffee, which I find (in my opinion) makes a better tasting brew. I will keep using Koffee Kult Dark Roast for a while and see how it holds up to all the different dark roast coffee's out there.
Good coffee, annoying seller
December 22, 2015
I'm not a total coffee elitist, but I appreciate the good stuff, and this is. I've prepared this several times via drip & Aeropress, and it's very good coffee, dark roast without going over the top.

Two reasons this doesn't get 5 stars:
*It's somewhere between weird and false to claim it's "organically sourced" without a USDA organic certification. Unlike vague terms like "all-natural", "organic" has a specific legal definition when used by food sellers
*The company is a bit annoying. I got at least five follow-up e-mails after my purchase sent via Amazon. One is fine, to say I should review the coffee, and I appreciated the preparation info, but more than a couple post-purchase e-mails makes me feel like I got trapped into signing up for an e-mail list from which I can't unsubscribe.
Fantastic coffee and a great value
February 10, 2015
Very good coffee, and a good value for the money. My first batch was prepared with a hand cranked burr grinder and a french press. I use a standard water filter pitcher with generic cartridges. This produced a very strong, yet smooth, beaker of coffee with a rich aroma that you can only get from fresh ground beans. The roast is lighter than I expected, but it wasn't a disappointment at all.

Do not buy if you don't have a good storage solution for whole beans! You'll need an air-tight container, preferably something with a CO2 valve but this is not essential. Do not just store the beans in the bag, they'll go stale long before you finish 2 pounds of coffee even if you have a heavy daily habit.

Makes an excellent latte. Wish it came in a smaller size.....
May 4, 2017
Makes an excellent latte. At one point while I was enjoying one of these latte's, I actually thought to myself "damn, this is a good cup of coffee". The coffee did start to turn bitter after about a month, which I attributed to the beans being older and not really conducive to making good espresso. On that same note, I wish the packages came in smaller sizes! My wife and I cannot finish a 1 kilo bag of coffee by ourselves in less than a month.
Delicious but overpriced.
April 18, 2017
We had this on subscription delivery once a month for a while. If you like strong, dark roasts you'll like this one. But ultimately, we cancelled. There are better, less expensive options out there. Our long term favorite by far is the "Pleasant Morning Buzz" store roast at the local Whole Foods - $10.99/lb. by comparison. We went back to that.
Wow
September 4, 2016
Wow, just wow! I typically like dark roasts, but this is delicious! Definitely bright and citrusy and easily my new fave (and I've tried a TON of coffees in the last few weeks). Would've been 5 stars had the bag included the roast date. It concerns me that this bag says enjoy by January 2017... And it's just September. Most people I speak to say to enjoy within 5-8 days of roasting. However, I WILL buy again.
Good dark roast decaf.
December 24, 2015
Nice decaf; I spent a lot of time and money buying non chemical processed decaf coffee looking for one I like, and tried this because it was a dark roast, I want a decaf with a little punch to it and this does it for me. It has the dark roast flavor but maybe a notch below the Starbucks decaf in intensity, but without the Starbucks burnt and bitter taste. I have tried many naturally processed decaf coffee and found many to be too subtle in taste, I will be ordering again.
Good dark roast... but now getting spendy.
November 30, 2015
We've gone through several bags of this. Nice dark roast with good flavor. Really works well for a pour over. Would have given it 5 stars but they just bumped the price significantly so I'll be looking elsewhere.
Try it in a dripolator
February 26, 2015
I have to admit at being disappointed when I first tried this coffee. I tried it with my Aeropress first, and then with a French press, but both times it left me wanting more. I am a big fan of the 454 Horsepower blend out of either kind of press, so my expectations were colored by that, I suppose.Unexpectedly, however, I found this coffee to really come into its own when made through an old dripolator coffee maker (not your standard electric Mr. Coffee drip machine). They're very common and can be found on eBay in good condition for around ten dollars or less. When using this old device, flavors that my presses rendered too mild to appreciate came out strong. Give it a try.

Not what I expected, the suggestions were wrong: not an Espresso coffee.
July 25, 2017
Very strong flavor coffee, the people who make this know what they are doing and I would recommend for a common pallate and for drip coffee.
I bought it because it was recommended for espresso and it is not, but it has a good sour-bitterness quality which might have been great to mix with other types with better espresso taste, almost as being the body for a better espresso beans.

I think course grinned this could also be a good French Roast (for plunger machines).

I was disappointed, but to be honest it's one really good disappointment
One step above Folder's
June 24, 2017
Not quite sure how this product has so many rave reviews. These beans are mediocre, at best. Props for the organic-ness, but that is about it. This is maybe a step above Folder's, and comparable to every other mid-quality bean that you can find everywhere. It provides a mild, flatly flavored cup of coffee with nothing memorable.
Disappointed
May 31, 2017
I am so glad to see other people saying what I was thinking - this is more like a medium roast. I thought maybe I screwed something up the first time I brewed this coffee, but nope. It's not bold enough for me, I guess. It's not bad, but I'm the kind of girl that prefers coffee that "puts hair on your chest," and Koffee Kult is not the one for me.
Good buy over priced.
June 18, 2016
2 pound bag of this is $24.99 amazon prime. Honestly, way too expensive and is over hyped. I would but this product at about $10 for 2 pound bag at the most. I tried this roast and another one after reading the reviews to try it out. Honestly I can get more bang for my buck purchasing coffee beans at a local grocery store or from Starbucks (ungrinded). This coffee flavor is pretty good, but not good enough to toss all my money at it and buy it. Im mid 20's, work two jobs, I do have products I purchase even if it is a budget killer, but this would put too big of a dent for the quality and quantity. Lower the price significantly and sure ill order more. Back to the store for now.
I guess the best time to write a review is in the morning ...
August 27, 2015
I guess the best time to write a review is in the morning after drinking a cup of coffee. I had just purchased a coffee grinder and I wanted a special bean to use with it. Compared to the beans I had purchased before, the Koffee Kult Dark Roasted beans were much fuller and even darker.

Now I have found I am not even tempted to buy coffee out, since I prefer the coffee at home!

When I do the math, it makes sense to "treat myself to good coffee" at home every day ... With literature or some kind of project in the works, I have what I need right here and there is no need to go "out and about" ...

I'm glad I tried this, and I will order more when I get close to the bottom of the bag.

Mediocre coffee, not bad, not that great.
October 4, 2017
I don't like this coffee. I use an Aeropress with the following recipe. 2:25 total time. 16.5 oz of whole beans at #15 on the Baratza Encore. 12 oz water heated to 176° F. Start timer, pour to 1. Stir five times. At 2:00 pour to 4. Insert plunger. Slowly plunge to the 2 cup/260 ml mark on the Hario V60 Glass Range Server (360ml, Size 01). Discard the liquid remaining in the Aeropress. The best coffee I've had, which I rate four stars and is the only four star out of five coffee I've ever had, is still Allegro Ground Coffee 2, 12 ounce Bags (Rainforest Blend). I'd love a suggestion on a better Aeropress recipe that would make this coffee shine.
No Better Than Lavazza at Twice the Price
April 13, 2017
This was purchased because of the glowing reviews. It's hard to find a really good decaf so we tried Kicking Horse to see whether it was better than Lavazza, our standby. There did not appear to be any difference in body, aroma, crema, or flavor as compared to Lavazza. But it was more than twice the price per pound. We'll stick to Lavazza.
It's Okay ,,,, I Wouldn't Buy It Again ,,, It's Underwhelming.
July 12, 2016
I read all the fantastic reviews and I was rather expecting some simply out of this world. I love strong coffee with a good bold flavor. I brewed it strong as I would normally make coffee and my first impression was that of something average and overpriced. I won't buy this again. It didn't taste hearty whatsoever in fact it really didn't taste fresh either. I would not recommend this.
An average Kicking Horse coffee
June 23, 2016
I've usually been a fan of Kicking Horse coffee, but unfortunately the Three Sisters roast may be my least favorite of all. This is not to say it is awful coffee to a level that should be reserved for hotel room coffee machine cartridges, but I would recommend other Kicking Horse blends, such as Kick Ass instead of this. The aroma is very nice, suggesting a recent roast. The taste profile, in my opinion, lacked any complexity and was simply monotone. Made this in a variety of ways including pour-over, french press and cold brew, but unfortunately none of those could boost my impression of this blend.
Used to be great, now bag comes with air in it
June 4, 2016
I love the Grizzly Claw Kicking Horse Coffee, but I don't like the fact that the bags are now coming partially filled with air. Today my package arrived and the vent on the front had a hole in it. The coffee doesn't smell the same anymore and the taste is notably stale. I don't know if it's the manufacturer's fault or the seller's fault, but this is getting ridiculous. If I wanted stale coffee, I'd go back to buying the pre-ground stuff at the grocery store.
Could be fresher
September 11, 2015
I find the coffee good but not great. I have found that quality roasted coffee becomes stale in a short amount of time. I am keeping the coffee but it's not as fresh as if it were bought directly from a roaster rather than having sat in Amazon's warehouse for who knows how long. That is what I will return to when this coffee runs out- buy direct from the roaster and get fresh oily beans that brew a superior cup of coffee.

The coffee is a good price, and comes in a properly re-sealable bag
April 6, 2017
The coffee is a good price, and comes in a properly re-sealable bag, which is better than the zip tie things you get from most coffee companies. The aroma from the beans is nice, however, that's about the best part. The coffee flavor and strength is just weak. I tried doing a two to one ratio using a burr grinder and a bonavita coffee maker, and i'm just getting weak coffee. Even the flavor itself isn't that great. I doubt i'll be getting this coffee again.
Bold or Burnt? Either way, not one of my favorites.
March 5, 2017
I used this for espresso exclusively (Vetrano Evo 2B/Double Boiler with PID and Baratze Sette 270W grinder). Koffee Kult describes this roast to be "heavy body, smooth, cinnamon, and bright with a long finish." The part I would agree with is that it has a heavy body. After trying various grind settings, dosages, and brew temperatures, I never got a great tasting espresso. There was always an underlying bitter/burnt flavor that overpowered any hints of other flavors trying to come through. It was neither pleasing nor complex. The best shots I pulled required a more coarse grind and a smaller dose than what I typically use for other beans. Even the best shots were begging to be mixed with 5oz of steamed milk. User error? Possibly, but I can usually perfect a shot within 4-5 attempts. Perhaps I had a bad batch that was over-roasted.
Disappointed is an understatement
February 3, 2017
Prior to this purchase I had bought a different brand of 5 lb dark roast which I thought was good but decided I would try 5 lbs of Koffee Kult based on the number and rating of the of reviews..... I should have read the reviews more closely!
As others have mentioned it's not bitter but it's not really a dark roast. And the beans are definitely dry looking, not dark and oily like the Black Knight beans I had bought before this one. I have to double the amount of coffee grind of this product to get the same bold taste as Black Knight.
Do yourself a favor and order a smaller amount and taste for yourself before committing to a large bulk buy like I did.
is this what people think is great coffee? Opened the bag
November 17, 2016
Really? All of these glowing reviews.. is this what people think is great coffee? Opened the bag; no great aroma. Ground fresh, french press, my usual routine. So bland. So boring. This was less than 7-11 coffee. I am going back to my don pablo at half the price. How much did it cost for all of the five star reviews? You got one purchase out of me, never again.
One step above Folgers coffee IMO I wanted to love this coffee for the $
May 26, 2016
This coffee is drinkable if you add cream and sugar. I grind my beans fresh every morning and brew using a French press with purified water. To help with anyone who is trying to compare taste preferences I find Death Wish coffee to amazing drunken black, it's actually my favorite coffee now. I also enjoy Starbucks' Yukon, Komodo, and Sumatra (in that order). I mention Starbucks' coffee only because it's widely available not because I'm a Starbucks fanatic. If anyone gets the chance they should also try Dazbog's coffee.

Average, But Drinkable
August 6, 2017
Hate to say it but the coffee tastes simply “average”. The best way I could describe it is that it tastes like something you’d be given at a diner or a cheap cafe— there is no discernible flavor profile nor is there any depth to its flavor. Unfortunately I chose to get the 2.2lb bag because I figured the “stellar” reviews and best selling nature of the coffee were reason enough to get it. I should have figured that the majority of reviews came from “normal people” who drink coffee for the caffeine rather than the taste and experience and aren’t coffee-aficionados. BUT, I will say that the coffee isn’t undrinkable. Given that I have two pounds of coffee beans left, I’ll finish them so as to not waste the $30 I spent on the bag.
Flavorless decaf.
March 17, 2017
The review is for the Decaf. The beans smell wonderful, but brewed is tastes like warm water. I've tried several different grinds from rough to fine, and the result is the same: a nice, dark cup of coffee with no flavor. Packaging is good, roast is good, but otherwise totally unfavorable.
Very disappointed after hearing good things
May 24, 2016
I was pretty disappointed by this coffee.I tried it in a french press a couple of times and also a percolator. While it's certainly better than the everyday coffee you can buy at a grocery store, it doesn't hold up against other premium coffees from stores like Whole Foods or good local shops. The beans came in a bit dry. The flavor was fine, but not especially rich/complex. Because of the dryness of the beans, the coffee was a bit grainy after being brewed. Just not what you want out of a coffee that's ~$16 for 10 ounces.I don't know if this experience is unique to Kicking Horse Coffee that is shipped by Amazon, or even that bag in particular, but I know I won't risk buying it again.
I use a jura impressa that makes some fantastic coffees normally

not very impressed. I use a jura impressa that makes some fantastic coffees normally. but this stuff seems to be all bitter and no body. brought the grind down to course as possible but its not enough. the search continues.
From Kicking Horse to Kicking MULE :(
January 25, 2016
When I started on buying this coffee over a year ago, it was the next best big thing out there for me. Seductively aromatic, with dark yet not burned lightly oily beans, delivering no bitterness, only the electric jumpstart and coffeine bliss, cup after cup. Even my jura maschine seem to approve, though intended for dry beans. I got so enthusiastic about this brand, that I've tried all of their flavors (except decaf), and this one was definitely number 1, followed by Kick Ass. I do enjoy drinking coffee during the day, even evenings, I tried a lot of different brands in my life, favouring the italians ones most, but this one was something out of ordinary in every aspect. From my last two orders however, I feel like "horse" has been hamped by a "donkey", and their "offspring" isn't very attractive. Very oily beans, bitter like hell taste even to the extend of scratching my throat although being drunk with creamer. It is very unfortunate, as the price is continuously increasing while quality seems to slides down. I gave it now generously 2 stars, as I mix it with my italian coffee for semi decent taste, but it's not what it was for sure.
Disappointing

I am definitely a coffee lover who cannot in good conscience recommend this coffee. Hard to say exactly whats wrong with it but oddly it does not seem to have any flavor. Its flat in taste. I drank this coffee over a period of several days because I hated the thought of wasting it. In the end I could discern a particular taste to it. I would definitely go elsewhere for coffee and not bother with this particular one.

Not at all fresh
September 6, 2017
The bag I received had no roast date, but from the expiration date it was clear the coffee had been roasted over three weeks prior to shipment.Since I paid quite a bit for "guaranteed fresh" coffee I was going to return it, but it wasn't eligible for a return so I opted for a refund. I still had the bag after receiving the refund (thanks Amazon!) so I opened it up and immediately knew there was no way this was good coffee. There was literally no coffee smell. What little odor it did have was sour, and the beans were very oily. I went ahead and ground it medium for my drip machine and made a cup. Quite literally the worst cup of coffee I've every tasted. I enjoy a quality cup of coffee, but I don't turn my nose up at the free coffee at work either. This stuff was so sour I couldn't choke it down. What I received was far from what the rave reviews I read described.
Another medium roast coffee trying to masquerade as a french dark roast
May 22, 2017
Just another medium roast coffee trying to masquerade as a french dark roast. I continue to be disappointed by every single french dark roast coffee on amazon, and this one was 2 pounds I have to suffer through. The color of this coffee is Hershey's milk chocolate medium brown, and it tastes like medium roast should. The color of a french dark roast is dark chocolate brown, and tastes different than this. It would be nice if just once I could find a french dark roast on amazon that was.
Coffee is fine, beware rocks that will break your grinder and annoying frequent emails
April 25, 2017
The coffee is totally fine, we used it with a Breville espresso machine. Once there was a rock mixed in with the beans that broke our (expensive!) grinder. I thought it was a fluke but just saw two other reviews saying the same thing happened to other people. They replaced that bag of beans but didn't say anything at all about the broken grinder. I also got an email after EVERY purchase (twice a month, I had it on subscription plus would buy a bag in between each monthly subscription delivery), super annoying.
DONOT BUY THIS COFFEE. STONES PACKED WITH COFFEE
January 21, 2017
Tried this based on many positive reviews.
To start with this is a dark roast - does have a bold, burnt flavor which I am not a big fan of.
Had tried multiple medium and dark roast and found this to have a strong burnt flavor.

** was putting the beans into my superautomatic and then was shocked to see a large stone along with the beans**
Packing stones with coffee just makes this coffee SUBSTANDARD and not fit for consumption.
*** DONOT BUY THIS COFFEE ****
*** NOT WORTH BREAKING YOUR MACHINES GRINDER AS THE TASTE IS AWFUL TOO***
Terrible Quality Control and lack of accountability
January 7, 2017
Bought this coffee a couple of times because of its really good flavor but last week I was grinding my coffee and it broke because there was a rock that went into the blades and damaged the motor.
If you have a good grinder at home DO NOT BUY THIS COFFEE this just cost me 200 USD and Koffee Kult responded as just being bad luck for me

Lives up to the name, I suppose

I like dark roasts, but prefer ones that don't actually smell or taste like fuel. This is stinky and strong and for those of you who like that, you'll probably love 454 Horsepower. This is more than just dark roasted: it's extra crispy. I ended up throwing the rest of it away.
Meal-Worm in the Coffee Bag Not Cool
April 2, 2017
Over the last year I've been a big fan of this coffee, as I'm a dark roast coffee aficionado and this coffee has been my definitive go-to. My latest bag I ordered however will unfortunately make me look for another dark roast source as I was totally bummed to find a mealworm in the coffee bag.
I was completely shocked at how terribly bitter it tastes
January 26, 2017
I have been getting more into espresso for the past few years and recently decided to check out other companies. I did some digging online and the I this brand came up once or twice. People would claim,"it's a bit pricey, but worth it!" I'm a college student, so spending a lot on coffee is not something I do often. Upon trying the coffee, I was completely shocked at how terribly bitter it tastes. I thought that maybe it was just me, but then I looked at all the comments people were leaving! I would give it zero stars if Amazon would let me, and I'm going to look into the websites that held this in such high regard.
Undrinkable

The worst coffee we have ever tasted. Extremely bitter, metallic taste. We had great expectation, but had to throw it all out. Shame on the coffee roaster to sell this...
Very weak batch of beans
February 5, 2016
Very poor quality beans. We've been buying the exact same brand for more than a year now with no issues. This particular batch however turned out to have extremely weak beans. I'm forced to use a minimum of 6 servings to make two cups of decent coffee where previously I would use just 3. I'm hoping this batch was an anomaly as otherwise we'll be forced to switch brands.
Kick Ass Dark...Uh...Weak Ass Dark is a better description
April 11, 2015
I have never been more disappointed in a coffee. How are these reviews so high? It appears they're combing different coffee under the Kick Ass review. If you drink any dark roast coffee, such as Italian Roast, French Roast, Sumatra, etc, you will be as highly disappointed as I was. I actually threw out what was in the coffee pot. This was the second pot I made. The first pot was weak, and typically I'm on the heavy side, with the spoon. This time I went heaping spoons, and sadly, not any better. Counter Culture from the supermarket is better, and Peet's is far superior, for less money. I will agree with some other reviews, it wasn't bitter. The other 1 3/4 pounds (rough estimate) will never see another coffee maker.Edit: Just so you know, if this review wasn't a deterrent, they have this in a smaller bag 1 lb bag. I didn't find that out until after.
