Get WOKE with deathwish
April 13, 2017
Be sure to know, this is a whole bean bag, not ground!! I didn't and it was nearly disastrous.Where I am, with who I am caffeinating, to NOT have Deathwish coffee, incurs a death wish.We ran out for a few days, and the overall speed at which business typically runs, ground (pun intended) to a halt.We very nearly started chewing on beans to grind them in our mouths in order to function.Thankfully, a quick email and faster shipping saved our daily routines.Thank you deathwish, or for us, caffinated, open eyed, wake inducing, nectar beans of the gods.We love you
Helluva good coffee!
April 12, 2017
I don't know about the whole "World's Strongest Coffee" claim, but this is nevertheless some very good coffee. The package I got was very fresh, tasting very smooth and perfectly palatable to drink black despite being full-bodied and very strong. Haven't tried it on my French press at home yet, just at work on presumably a fairly run-of-the-mill food service coffee maker, but if it tastes good brewed on that I can only imagine it'll be great from a French press. Will try to remember to update the review later with results.
Drink... go for a run.. yum yum

Soooo I drink coffee everyday and always buy fresh roasted coffee beans. I was a weeee bit skeptical but after reading and laughing (some of you are hilarious writers) at the review I figured I'd give it a shot.Wow not only did my chest hair turn from black to silver, but I cleaned the house after my first cup (much to the liking of my wife). Then next day I thought I'd try drinking a cup before a 5:00 am run. Hi acid coffee, such as that from some big gigantic chain with a green symbol that has disgusting coffee, reeks havoc on my stomach. Figured we shall see if the boost/caffeine/stomach etc would be good to drink and then run. And yes, yea yea yea, coffee dehydrates and shouldn't drink before running etc. Incredible! no bad effects, stomach didn't fee yucky, but the caffeine boost kept me alert and cruising along!Highly recommend brewing with Moccamaster, the best coffee pot, brewing the strongest coffee = yummmBuy you will like it. and better yet read some of the review I had tears laughing at some peoples creative writing :-)

UPDATE: I have tryed several other types of specialty coffies and evn tryed the ne strongest coffee in the world. Deathwish beats them all. This stuff tastes better and works better then them all. I will be buying more.I ordered this randomly week ago. It was supposed to show up 2 days after I ordered but to my suprise it showed up within 1 day. I ground and brewed my first pot rite away for me and my wife. The coffie has a very nice flavor. I will buy this coffie again just for the taste. It is amazingly smooth. It wakes me up and gets me going but I don't get the jitters that I would have expected. This is definitely a great coffie.
Not For the Faint of Heart
January 20, 2017
No lies here. Many coffee company's try to give their coffee a badass name and logo, and claim to have the most kick...and it's all smoke and mirrors. Not Death Wish. I normally drink 20-30oz coffee a day... once 8oz cup of this had me wired for hours...on four hours sleep after a 13 hour work day. I do not recommend, if you drink a lot of coffee, drinking this in the same dose...your heart will probably explode. I will never let myself run out of stock of Death Wish. Oh, and the flavor quality is also robust and superb.
Pretty great coffee
April 23, 2014
This coffee is pretty good honestly, and the kick it gives you is great. If you want to stay up all night look no further! However, I was disappointed by the lack of death the coffee supplied, but I guess that isn't all bad.

Tough to find a better value but this does not taste like "value" coffee at all.
September 2, 2016
This is very tasty coffee. Reminiscent of Lavazza Grand Crema. Full bodied, but not too bold. These are a bit on the oily side which does add to the flavor of the coffee. I was initially concerned about how oily they are because I planned to use this in a Super-Automatic espresso machine. Super Automatics do not like oily beans, but my Gaggia Brera did not seem to mind the beans at all. These work just fine and I have now run 1 and a half bags of this coffee through the machine without issue. This is a lot of coffee for this price: it would be tough to find a better value but this does not taste like "value" coffee at all. I personally vacuum seal a few pouches of it and freeze it until I need some more. Works like a charm and always smells and tastes fresh.
Good alternative to more expensive brands
May 30, 2016
Really good quality beans. We're former Starbucks beans, home roasted beans fans and decided to try these. The beans are perfected for both my husband and I. He prefers drip grind and I'm and espresso person. Great price for the quality of these beans. We keep them in the freezer and keep a few days worth in an airtight container near our grinder.
Excellent Roast; Excellent Flavor
August 26, 2014
My wife and I's level of coffee snobbery has steadily increased over the past few months, and recently we graduated from buying whole bean coffee at the standard grocery store to purchasing this.First off, I think I read in a few reviews here that the product ppl got wasn't what they ordered. I don't have much experience to go off of yet, but ours looked exactly like what I've read an espresso roast is supposed to look like - very dark and very oily (if you touch the beans it will actually get on your fingers!).More importantly, the taste is fantastic! It's a very dark brew but with no bitterness - the first thing I noticed is that there's no bitterness even with the last sip, as opposed to the store-bought coffee that tastes good at first but started tasting bitter about half-way through. Depending on whether I'm brewing for myself only or others as well, I brew with either an Aeropress or a traditional french press, and either way I can easily say that it's the best coffee I've ever tasted. It's taken two of us a little over a month to use about 90% of this coffee; when I bought it I transferred most of it into quart-size mason jars and put those in the freezer, and put what remained into cup-size mason jars that went in the cupboard (away from light). We then pulled a quart jar out of the freezer and refilled the small jars as needed, so that we only had 2, maybe 3 day's worth of coffee "open" at any given time. We're on the last quart jar now and it still tastes as fresh as when we bought it!Anyway, I highly recommend both this seller and this particular roast. Going to buy another bag right now!
Love it
April 4, 2014
I love this coffee. This is my second 5 pound bag that I have ordered and consumed. It is exactly what I am looking for in a coffee. It's dark and rich with very little/no bitterness (depends on if you are a serious coffee drinker or not) I used to add a pinch of salt to cut the bitterness, but find there is no need with this. You open the bag and some serious intense coffee smells attack you (in a good way). The beans are beautiful. Dark brown, almost black and are shinny with oil. Exactly what you want to see. The longer they sit around in open air, the less shinny they will be, till they look dry. The last bag I got eventually looked like that towards the bottom of the bag but that is my own fault, and have found a better way for storing them this time around. In a large air tight container. Kept out of light and heat. If you blow through a bag in a week you don't need to worry about it as much as if it takes you a month.
Fantastic if you are an Espresso Junkie like me
February 19, 2014
This showed up as highly rated when I searched for Espresso Beans, so my wife and I gave it a try. It's delicious. Previously we were using the StarBucks Espresso blend -- which we really liked -- but after trying this, it's certainly our preference. It does get bitter when the temperature moves down towards room temperature, but the solution is to drink it hot or warm.We have a MIele machine which automatically grinds, presses, and makes the Espresso for us. There have been no issues with this being used in the machine, and we've got about 6 months of use with this brand. The package is large, and it is sealed very well. The oils are contained on the beans when you open the bag, but because the bag is large, you will need some good sealing clamps or an airtight container since it takes some time to go through 5 lbs.Not sure about some of the other reviews mentioning the quality was low, or the oils lacking on the beans. We had just the opposite. I'll update if we experience anything bad, but so far after multiple purchases, this is just outstanding.
Really, Really Good Espresso (And a Bargain!)
March 8, 2013
I've been brewing and drinking espresso for well over twenty years. I've owned lots of machines but found that I am happiest with the Gaggia Classic. Presently I pull 2 or 3 doubles day for myself and the occasional guest.Finding the right espresso has been like the search for the Holy Grail. So many promises, so many false trails. I've tried some highly recommended beans (which, of course, I fresh grind just before pulling the cup) that have cost $20 a lb. I've tried imported beans. Domestic beans. Beans from chain coffee houses. Beans from exclusive one-of shops. I've found several that I like (price, it seems, has had little connection to satisfaction), and more than a few disappointments. I'd seen these Coffee Bean Direct Italian Roast Espresso more tha a few times and each time said "Nah! Can't be good for that money." Boy, was I wrong.Okay, so after so many disappointments with big-bucks for little bags I figured what the heck, people speak well of this stuff, it is worth a try. And then I waited, wondering what to expect, for the Prime two-day free delivery. Got the coffee an hour ago and decided to try it right away.First thing I did was clean the grinder. I wanted this to be a fair trial with no stale x, y, or z brand beans mixed in. All the while the Gaggia Classic was heating.I set the grind for the same setting I used with Starbucks beans because the oiliness and color of these was similar. The first pull suggests that the ideal for these beans be a bit finer, but still, even with a 22 second pull (I aim for 30)... wow! This was one good cup! So good that I was tempted to reset the grinder and pull a second. But that'd make 3 doubles today -- more coffee than I really like to drink -- so that'll wait for tomorrow.BTW, there was a giveaway that this would be good espresso... the scent. It wafted out of the bag as soon as I opened it and when I re-entered the room 10 minutes later it was still enticingly hanging in the air. Rich and delicious. Inviting.Espresso flavor is a personal thing. I might love this, you might love it less. (Who knows, maybe you won't even like it?) But if you, like me, are continuing to search for that near perfect espresso bean, and would prefer it not cost you $20 a lb, by all means give these beans a try.

Not as strong as I thought
January 25, 2017
I bought this as a Christmas gift for my parents who already drink the boldest darkest French Roast that they can find. First things first, this is one of the nicest packaged coffees I've ever bought. Each package comes in it's own sturdy cardboard box and includes a sticker! On to the coffee...initially, we were all pretty apprehensive, it being called "Death Wish Coffee" and all but after brewing a batch, it seemed like any other coffee. I can't say that it perked me up any more than any other coffee I've had- although I already seem to be relatively caffeine insensitive (i.e. can drink a cup before bed and go straight to sleep). It's a tasty cup of coffee but I'm not sure about world's strongest cup. In all fairness a couple weeks after trying the coffee I discovered an email from the death wish coffee company with instructions about how to best brew the coffee. So I'll update this review as soon as we do so - here's to hoping for some STRONG coffee.
Death Wish 2: Die Harder'r
January 7, 2017
I'm both pleased and disappointed with this coffee, but RESULTS NOT TYPICAL, AND I'LL TELL YA WHY.So, I had a inkling that I was immune to caffeine, (possibly something passed down from my mom. (Both she and I drink coffee before bed with no problems.) So I decided, to test it out with Death Wish. I mean, maybe I was just a little desensitized to caffeine. Surely if chugged a cup, maybe two, I could beat my own metabolism, right? Well, as it turns out, no I can't. Either I'm a little too far gone, or I do have that fast caffeine metabolism gene. ON THE PLUS SIDE, Death Wish's claims had me thinking that it would just be kind of strong, something that doesn't necessarily taste good but people drink for bragging rights, or the caffeine content. Either that or it would be another case of "acquired taste." However, I'm pretty happy to say that out of the few whole-bean coffees I've ground, this one might be my favorite so far. I don't add sugar, just a bit of cream. It goes down pretty smooth, and has a hint of it's own natural sweetness. (Nothing too drastically sweet, so don't get your hopes up.)This will probably be my coffee choice from now on. You win this round Death Wish...
I purchased this coffee to see what all the hype is about...
January 1, 2017
I purchased this coffee to see what all the hype is about and to try to find an energy boost in conjunction with a ketogenic diet. I do enjoy the fact that this brand is organic and Fair Trade. I prefer to stick with single-origin coffee brands but I certainly don't mind shying away from that preference in search of a good product. After popping some of these whole beans in my grinder, I prepped up my French Press and was ready for my first cup. Now, I do drink a lot of coffee; several cups a day. And I am well tolerated regarding caffeine sensitivity. However, I took the suggestion of starting out with about half of the recommended serving. I felt no additional energy or affects of caffeine than normal. My second cup was the full, recommended serving. Again, no additional energy. As my third and fourth cups were each made stronger, I still felt no additional energy. Although I didn't get to experience what all the hype is about, I will say the coffee is delicious and very smooth. Based on taste and quality, I would buy this again. After all, the price point is very reasonable for the quality.
Try it
September 26, 2016
I first bought Death Wish coffee as a result of the last Superbowl commercial, more out of curiosity. I am a coffee snob and like only certain blends. So, I tried Death Wish coffee. A little strong but it's supposed to be. The cost for ordering on a regular basis was too prohibitive so I left it at that. Then I saw the coffee on Amazon and being a Prime member, my shipping was free. I ordered both the Death Wish and Valhalla blends. The Valhalla blend is good. Haven't attempted the Death Wish mega-caffeinated just yet. Don't need to be kicked awake that quickly. It's meant for gentle sipping. The coffee is high quality and worth the price.
Sure, I guess
July 18, 2016
Reading the reviews, I thought this stuff would peel my eyelids off. It's not quite that strong, and it's not even the strongest coffee I've had. Newman's Own Special Extra Bold Blend Coffee K-Cups, Medium Roast, 100 Count is actually the strongest coffee I've ever had, and it rounds out to about $0.50 per serving when you purchase it at a wholesaler (Sam's Club for me). It's more bitter than Death Wish, which I love, but my wife hates. Death Wish is a smoother brew, and the flavor is a bit more pleasant. So no points deducted for taste, but this coffee isn't really that strong. A fresh brew from Starbucks or the Newman's Extra Bold outdo this one in that department.Still, I'm not upset that I tried it. Quality beans.

I love coffee and this is good not amazing coffee
September 29, 2016
Giving the coffee a 4 out of 5, I love coffee and this is good not amazing coffee. Even though it is a dark Italian roast it's a bit mild but I am using it in a pour over single cup. What I've noticed is I need one more spoonful of coffee to achieve the normal taste I usually prefer. Instead of 3 spoons I need 4 so I figure the coffee is about 7.5 a lb so that's less than the 10.00 a lb it costs in Los Angeles. I'll probably give it another try and will test it in my GF's Breville coffee maker. It was smooth and not bitter so that's good I will try to update later.
but my favorite is definitely the Italian Roast
January 12, 2016
I've been purchasing coffee beans on a monthly basis from Coffee Bean Direct for over a year now. I have tried many different roasts with varying success, but my favorite is definitely the Italian Roast. It's bold, but not acidic and the beans have a spectacular amount of oil. I have made this coffee in a drip machine, but most commonly use either a French press or a pour over. If you like bold coffee, Italian Roast is the way to go.
Very good expresso, but what should i use for dose size?
February 28, 2014
I didn't see any information on dosing in reading the reviews. I know it is a subjective topic. First off, my equipment...Gaggia Classic with Auber PID and Mazzer Mini Grinder. Set Value of pid is 217 as well as static pressure set at 10 bars. I used a thermocouple to measure temp at portafilter and i am getting reads from 202 to 190 during my shot pull, which is expected on a Gaggia classic. I am no pro, but have a pretty good idea on what i am doing. I have tried many many different doses, grinds etc for this Italian Roast Expresso. I will say that for my liking, i use 17 grams of expresso to produce about 32 grams of expresso in 30 seconds. 16 grams seems to work almost as well and get between 32 and 27 grams. Below or above that amount(16 to 17) and it is to bitter or sour. 18grams was horrible for straight expresso(not latte). Of course if I use 16 grams i need set my grinder 1 notch finer. I use the "slapshot method using a yogurt cup, seems to be the most consistant. I am now at 4.5 weeks since my purchase and I really haven't noticed much degregation of flavor. It probably will not keep much longer unless i used a vacuum sealer to begin with. I keep the bag sealed with a clip in the closet, not refrigerator or freezer. My wife uses this roast in the keurig and seems to like it ok...she is not very picky, like me and she uses a Capresso Infinity (conical) grider. I did buy some locally roasted expresso and honestly didn't like it as much as this and that was $14.00 for 1lb. For the price you can't beat this deal, approx $6 a pound. Even Starbucks is $9 for 12 oz and this coffee blows that way, not that it would be a surprise to anyone. Starbucks coffee is over roasted and to oily. This expresso does make good crema and tastes great in lattes. I don't drink express straight(any brand), just 2 strong for me. Hope this helps.
Great coffee
December 21, 2013
Since the quality of water and method of brewing largely effect the outcome of the end result, I'll begin by saying that I use commercially bottled water (Primo) with a dispenser that heats the water. I brew a cup at a time using the AeroPress system. This coffee is as bold flavored and delicious as any other I've tried, and as long as it's the most economical choice for cost, I'll continue to purchase it. So far, the only comparison I have tried or found shopping for whole bean espresso is Wegman's brand, which is currently only slightly more expensive, with as good flavor. I have also tasted Member's Mark (Sam's Club) Columbian Supremo, which I can't find anymore under that name, but is now sold there under the brand "Daily Chef". While not espresso, it's a dark roast that I like, but to me is not as bold or desirable as the espresso roast.I took one star away for packaging because while the package does have an air lock valve, it's not re-sealable, and I had a difficult time opening it to the point that I damaged the bag. 5 pounds is a lot of coffee, but I was able find an air tight container large enough to store it, which is probably better anyway.
It's dark
March 19, 2013
I made my first pot yesterday. When I opened the bag it had a strong smell and lots of shinny beans. It may have been a little darker then I was hoping for. I was reading review after review and decided against the med-dark roast and went with the dark roast because of the reviews. Well I should have gone more with my gut. I like it, I do. But it is absolutely a dark roast. It has a touch too much bitterness for me. I mixed a med roast in with it this morning and a pinch of salt (to cut the bitterness) and it was warm, rich, and full bodied. This is how I will probably prepare it from now on. It's just that now I have 5 pounds of coffee and I will still have to buy a med roast to mix in. Probably at a 2 part dark to 1 part med. And that's fine. It's not the coffee that I'm disappointed in, it's that every one has different tastes, and some people just need to be so extreme. It's dark. It ain't getting much darker, if it can get darker AT ALL. So take that into account. I like STRONG coffee. Not bitter coffee. And I do like dark..just a med-dark. When I go to Starbucks for example, I get a black eye. That is their drip coffee with two shots of espresso. If you like it strong and rich (lol) then I suggest getting a slightly lighter roast and adding an extra scoop. If you like it a little bitter and slightly flat, then this is the roast for you.
Great quality and value.
March 11, 2010
I just brewed up a pot in my french press after receiving the bag in the mail today and I have to say I am impressed! Like another reviewer noted, this is a true dark roast. Extremely fresh tasting, and very smooth flavor with very little acidity. I can definitely see myself ordering this again. ~$30 shipped for 5 lbs versus paying 8-10/lb at a grocery store for wildly varying quality and age...it's a no brainer.Edit: (8.10.2011) Unfortunately I have to re-visit my original review of this product. The past 2 times I've ordered I've noticed the quality reduced significantly. The beans seem somewhat stale upon arrival and there is a definite bitterness that was not present in orders 6-12 months ago. I've decided to switch to a local roaster that produces a far fresher and superior product for not much more money.

Great Novelty Coffee!
September 4, 2017
This is tasty. But, where is the kick? I ordered this a few times because the novelty was great. Love the name. But, for me coffee is more than a name. I missed my morning kick. I missed the dreads smell of freshly roasted coffee beans. But, most importantly I needed to wake up. So, I had to go back to my old faithful Peet's coffee.
save your money. Just a marketing gimmick
May 14, 2017
It is no great shakes and certainly not worth the price paid. I bought into the marketing blurb on the highest level of caffeine in coffee blah blah blah. In the end I drank just as much as I would from any other brand and felt nothing extra in terms of a buzz or being wired.

December 3, 2016
The packaging was amazing. Came in a perfectly sized heavy duty matching logo box with the coffee and a sticker nestled inside. The coffee beans smell a little bitter, and although I take extra care grinding the beans (to make sure they don't heat up), the coffee tastes burnt to me. I don't even have a warming plate, but a tightly sealed thermal pot to keep it hot, so it's not an issue of my grinding or letting the coffee sit too long. This is disappointing because as a grad student with a baby, I love the extra caffeine at 4:30am. I gave it 3 stars because of all the extra care taken with the packaging and because some people may enjoy this flavor. I do not because the beans hemselves even smell bitter and almost burnt, so the taste is not good.
Tastes really good not any stronger than espresso roast from Starbucks
October 5, 2016
There are benefits to purchasing this brand since it is organic including good karma points since it is "fair trade" but the brewing ration is 2.5 Tbs to 6 ounces vs just 2 Tbs with other strong coffee brands. If you're looking for the best bang for your buck go elsewhere. It does taste good vs other brands I've tried including Starbucks espresso roast. Regardless of the cost I would buy this again because it's nice to know farmers are getting paid fairly for their hard work.
Good Not Great
February 16, 2016
First, I love strong coffee. For the past few years my wife and I have used a Keurig. I realize that's probably not what a real coffee aficionado uses but it works for us. It's quick and easy. I've tried many Kcups but have to say my favorite is Tully's French Roast. Strong bold flavor...I love it. So when I saw Death Wish touting strongest coffee in the world, I had to try it. I bought the whole beans, ground it and used it in the Keurig pod that let's you use your own coffee. The coffee is ok but not the world's strongest tasting coffee in my opinion. My wife on the other hand really likes it. She needs to add cream to the Tully's but can drink this black. If world's strongest coffee means the highest caffiene content then that might be a different story. I just don't think I feel much effect from caffiene so I'm not a good judge. I'm going to try it in my Aeropress to see if it tastes different using an alternative brewing method. So I would say the coffee is good, I would never turn it down, but at $19.95 a bag I probably won't make it a subscription purchase. I did like the bonus sticker that came with the coffee. Nice touch.
As I like my coffee strong
February 8, 2016
I use the Jura Capresso coffee maker that grinds the beans right before brewing. The strength of the coffee is determined by the amount of water you program the machine to use. As I like my coffee strong, I use 3.5 oz of water per "shot". I liked the taste of the Death Wish coffee, but I did not find it any stronger than the Starbucks French Roast beans I usually use. I was waiting for the extra jolt of energy a lot of your customers described, but other than maybe my heart beating a little faster, I cannot say I felt more enthusiastic about my daily chores than usual. Given the price per pound, I will probably not make this my regular coffee of choice. I do like the Fair Trade component though

September 23, 2017
I would rate this blend too mild. I have been buying Starbucks espresso beans at the grocery store for the convenience and they have a much stronger profile. I prefer espresso to let you know you're drinking a strong coffee, and unfortunately I didn't find that with these. In fact, this is the mildest espresso I've had in awhile.
Good coffee, but not at the new price....
June 26, 2016
To be fair, the coffee is good. Over the past 18 months I have purchased around 100+ pounds of this brand and roast. At first, I was getting old roast dates sometimes 2-3 months old. That cleared up and my last 6 orders were within a few weeks to a month from roast date. The problem I am having is their pricing. I rechecked all of my orders over the last 18 months and up until last month prices were anywhere from 32.00 to 37.00 per 5# bag. Prices have shot up to $45 now and that is more than I am willing to pay for this product. As I say, the coffee is good but not $45 good. I have since switched to https://www.amazon.com/Italian-Espresso-Coffee-Fresh-Roasted/dp/B00U7P9L9O/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_sims?ie=UTF8 and the quality is very comparable so from now on I will save $10 a bag and use the other brand. If coffee bean direct returns to their former pricing, I'll switch back but if not then that's ok I'll stick with the new brand.
Good Product, but Inconsistent Blend
December 14, 2014
Two months ago, I bought my first bag of this product. The espresso was about a 2 out of 5, but I discovered it worked great for my drip coffee maker. We went through the first 5 pounds in a few weeks and ordered another bag. This is when I noticed something very important. The coffee that was brewed from the beans in the 2nd bag was not as strong as what we made from the first bag. I am using the same grinder on the same setting. I checked to make sure the grinder is delivering the proper dose, and it is. That makes the coffee good, but not great. And, I'm not blaming the beans; I'm blaming the people who did the blending. It is still a good product, but be aware that you may have to make adjustments to your brew from time-to-time.

These are the first beans I've ordered from Amazon that I didn't really care for. Not robust in flavor and seems rather weak in comparison to Kicking Horse 454 Horse Power and the Columbian Supremo from Fresh Roasted Beans, LLC.
Very Bold, Very Strong
January 8, 2014
I was looking for a bold and strong morning espresso. This one, for me, was to strong, bold and acidic. If you like that style then you will like this bean. My wife and I just want it toned down a little and are probably going to go with the Java island bean again.I have been ordering from this company for over a year and it has not disappointed me. I like coffee, have an ranchillo silvia and make espresso every morning for my wife and I. I think this company is a good value and has a good product.
so so

Usually 4.5 stars in amazon means it should be real good. But in this case, I have tasted better coffee.First things first, The beans are above average size which results clogging up my conical burr grinder(not a big concern and lets say it is the grinders fault.).Secondly I noticed very less crema(tried different settings). Finally, not strong for a double espresso shot.By the way mine is a Breville Barista Express.

Disappointed :-(
July 30, 2017
I was disappointed with this coffee. What I was looking forward to was the taste and no so much the caffeine boost. And it tasted a bit bland. I used a drip and pour-over method to brew it and either way the taste was the same. I shared it with colleagues and they had the same feeling. The caffeine boost is very good. It does give you a bit of a kick. So, if you're looking for a great taste of coffee with some a caffeine boost, look else where
Coffee with Dead Caffeine
April 21, 2017
Death Wish Organic USDA Certified Whole Bean Coffee, 16 Ounce BagUp to this point, the strongest coffee I have tried came from the bucks. I was very excited to get and try this coffee claiming to be the worlds strongest. Don't get me wrong, it has good flavor, but I didn't order it for the flavor. I wanted to try some kick butt coffee and that's what I feel I didn't' get. Yes, I'm a daily coffee drinker, so maybe even from the regular stuff I've developed a tolerance; but when you compare the stated caffeine levels this is supposed to have verses what I've been drinking; I expected a slight rush, or some hype tingling; or something. All I thought and felt was good flavor.

Me and my spouse are coffe fanatics, coffe smells burn, and the bag had a rip in it.They may have chosen highly caffeinated beings, but the way they are roasted does not allow to maintain their caffein.

I've been making cold brew for a few months. I tried using this and it's not noticeably stronger than the other stuff i've been trying and it tastes horrible. Granted cold brew is much enhanced by anything with richer notes. This just tasted burnt and bitter- which is not something you should get from cold brew unless you let it steep for too long. I tried 12 hours, 8 hours and even 6 hours... all of which gave us the same bitter, burnt taste. The branding and PR team is amazing though. It looks like lots of the reviews on Amazon reference their website and can't say anything wrong about the product.
Disappointed
September 12, 2016
I was very excited about trying this coffee, I had read numerous reviews that only reinforced my excitement. When I got my package I opened immediately squeezed the bag and took a deep breath over the vent........nothing. There was no scent of any kind. Ok, I was thinking maybe it is package different so the vent is covered. Since it was sold and reviewed as being VERY strong, I was a little concerned it maybe too strong for us. So the next morning, I mixed it half and half. My spouse and I both said it tasted burnt, not a fan of the flavor and no extra boost of energy. Ok, maybe mixing wasn't a good idea. Next morning mixed straight Death Wish coffee, stronger burnt taste, still not liking the flavor and still no boost in energy from caffeine content. My spouse pointed out that the beans looked dried out. I put some beans next to another brand we have since purchase and that is correct. I am going to just mix it with our current brand until its gone but I will not purchase again. For the price and the quality I will not purchase again.
Neat package, but coffee tastes really burnt...and no pick me up
February 21, 2016
On shipping: it took over a week just for it to ship. Annoying. The product: I wasteallyexxired to try this coffee. When it FINALLY came in, I was disappointed. It smelled good. Then I brewed a cup. I personally love dark, strong coffee. The way I see it, there is no such thing as coffee that is too strong, just men who are too weak. Well the coffee tasted burnt, not dark. It tasted like a light coffee that has been sitting on a burner for hours. Pretty gross. And it didn't give me the perk. I ended up taking a nap shortly after I drank the first cup.So I tried the coffee a couple more times. It tasted the same and had the same effect. The package is cool and it came in a neat box, but the packaging was not worth the 20 bucks. Folgers tastes better. I am very disappointed.

For espresso, consider other options...
February 10, 2017
I only tried this as espresso in a Profitec Pro 300 and Ceado E5P grinder. For two weeks and over 50 shots at a carefully calibrated grind and tamp settings I tried dialing this in. I failed. My story, after spending over $100 a month on beans, I was looking for a decent everyday coffee for a more reasonable price.Overwhelmingly, this coffee is well reviewed on Amazon. There are a few low ratings that complain of stale or bad batches. I may be a recipient of an imperfect batch but that's impossible for me to know. This coffee smells like wet dog or old cardboard in a dumpster on a rainy day, mixed with the ashen remains of an old despot. The mouthfeel is gritty. The nose opens flatly, almost like aromas are pulled from your nose, without the faintest hint of anything living of any kind. Instead, if the world were destroyed in a prolonged multinational nuclear holocaust, this is what the rubble of a poorly designed European government sponsored apartment complex would taste like I'd you used it to make coffee. The finish lingers for ages, into the evening, weekend, and memories of your lost youth. Have you ever sipped from the ashtray of a Parisian cafe, early in the morning when vagabonds are wrapping up a late night? Remember when the kitchen fire spread to the drapes, the house filled with a toxic plume that peeled the paint from the walls, engulfing your beloved cat, and you tried to tidy up with a shop vac, then spilled the ashes on your face as you lifted the sepulchre of debris into a dumpster, scattering the remains of your pathetic bourgeois pittance on your own face? Yes, it tastes like that. The price is reasonable.
Good price for quantity but

Good price for quantity but... I've been making exspresso/ lattes for around 10 yrs.- I've tried many many beans and these were just too bitter for me. Really didn't enjoy at all. Quick shipping though!
If you like your coffee bold, pay the extra money for Starbucks
August 17, 2015
I was very disappointed with this. I was expecting a rather strong cup of coffee, but really wimped out. I'm going to go back to my original Starbucks French roast mixed with the donut blend.

The bag i got was a bad one. I ordered on February 14, 2015. and received it on 17th. When the bag came it was vacuumed packed. Kind of baggy and loose. I had a bad feeling about it. Tried many settings on my grinder to get the 27sec pull from 18grams of beans on my Rocket R58 machine. Got it and was not able to get good Creama. I also ordered a bag of the CO2 Decaf Espresso at the same time and was able to get great Creama and tasty shots. Yes very disappointed this bag. I will be going back to Super Creama by Lavavaza. Oh well got to try em all...:)
Careful, you may not get what you think you are.
November 26, 2013
This is the second bag of this coffee I've ordered. The first would have been five stars, it was very good even without considering the price. This second bag however was as bad as the first one was good. Dry, pale beans that made a bitter, nasty cup of coffee. I don't know what the reason is but if you're feeling lucky try it. Maybe you'll get a good one, but if not....
Replacing This one with Coffee Bean Direct Dark Sumatra Mandheling, Whole Bean Coffee, 5-Pound Bag
November 21, 2013
I am an Italian Dark Roast fan have purchased Whole Foods Organic and non Organic Italian Dark Roast and loved it albeit it may not be a true Italian Dark Roast. This one, Coffee Bean Direct is way too bitter for me. I will finish using up with plenty of cream the 5 lb bag I bought through our subscribe and save order but will not purchase this one again. We are changing it out withCoffee Bean Direct's Dark Sumatra Mandheling, Whole Bean Coffee, 5-Pound Bag on our next subscribe and save order, we LOVE the subscribe and save feature with Amazon, keep up this awesome feature great customer service Amazon!!!

Garbage, tastes like cheap coffee!!! Where is the caffeine in this crap???
My beans were burned, sadly . . .
June 21, 2017
My bag of whole beans was burned, unfortunately. Could determine that instantly when the seal was broken. Gave one star, just for the caffeine. Would not purchase again unless they adjusted their roasting times/temperatures.
Wish this was better coffee
April 6, 2017
Pretty weak coffee. I tried to grind it course and fine to bring out the flavor and it was still week. I eventually mixed it with a dark roast from Trader Joe's to get a stronger coffee. I also felt no difference caffeine wise either. I drank 2 cups (large) and was still sleepy. Feel like I wasted $20. I would have returned if the seller allowed returns.
Where's the insane amount of Caffeine?
November 18, 2016
I'm not a coffee addict or anything but I wanted to try this because Im always tired in the mornings at work. This coffee honestly didn't do ANYTHING...and sometimes it would make me sleepy. I got more of a kick from some cheap Folgers than this.
Is It Decaffeinated?
September 23, 2016
The only good thing about this coffee is crema. That's it. The taste is O.K. and it seems like itdoesn't contain any caffeine. I'm very sensitive to caffeine, but this coffee didn't work for me at all. Also, it's waytoo overpriced. Disappointed and don't recommend it to anyone.

Bad aroma and taste
July 20, 2017
We've been using Coffee Bean Direct for several years and when our regular type was bland, with no aroma and a flat taste, we tried this. Same results: smells and tastes like dirty straw. No more of this brand for me. The last few bags also had slit in them and needed to be replaced.
Never again!
November 5, 2016
I had high hopes for this product. Honestly it does not stand out it is just another mediocre tasting coffee. I made the mistake of buying the 5 lbs bag and now I'm stuck with this bad tasting dark water.
The current batch tastes horrible
August 16, 2016
I loved this coffee beans and have purchased it 3 or 4 times already but I cannot say the last one we got is drinkable. I don't know what happened but it looks and tastes so wrong. The espresso we make with this coffee beans used to be black, but now we are getting this greyish brown liquid even though we've been using the same espresso machine and same coffee bean grinder in the same manner. I tried to replace it with another one from a different batch but unfortunately the return/replace window had closed by the time we noticed this. I wish the manufacturer had tested every batch to make sure us consumers can expect what we are getting.

April 20, 2016
We thought this was terrible. Bought this because overall reviews were good. It is very oily, left a bitter residue on the coffee after it was brewed. Bought it for use with a french press, so possibly if it is used in filtered machines the residue may be filtered out. Gave the bag away to someone with a Keurig that grinds beans for the refillable k-cup. They didn't like it either but again that process does not filter either. They gave the rest to someone with a drip machine. They also complained of bitterness.

March 15, 2016
Awful! Not even close to the roast that is advertised. I would classify this as barely bolder than tea. That may be a bit of an exaggeration, but it definitely isn't an espresso blend.
Disappointing!
July 21, 2015
Disappointing! Weak, unnatural coffee taste for an advertised espresso bean. I was unaware that this was a "flavored coffee [which] contains natural and artificial flavors." This was not listed on the product information portion on Amazon. The rest of the 5 pounds that we haven't used will likely end up in the trash.
