Five Star Reviews: | 70% Low string spacing, lots of crunch and grunt December 31, 2016 This bass is a very good bass for the price! It sounds really great, and more aimed towards the rock bassist, or playing with a pick. The tone knob is very functional, dialing in between a nice bright slap tone, and a mellow 70's Motown sound. The fretboard is polyester (plastic) as opposed to rosewood or ash, but it allows for a very nice bright tone (think somewhere between a regular warm tone, and a bass with graphite neck). The polyester neck has been done successfully on several basses, and works really well on this green bass, as it's easy to use whatever color (as wood is limited in color). This bass has frets, and it sounds great slapping. If you're looking for a cheap slap monster that can also dial out some old school funk, this probably will be your monster! And what's more, the price,I can't believe that prices like this exist on a bass of this caliber! If I wouldn't know any better, I would say it sounds just as good as a $600 bass of a few years back! Now I want another one... December 9, 2015 VERY amateur bass player, and do it just as a hobby, so didn't want to spend a lot for my bass guitar. Going into the purchase knowing full well "you get what you pay for" I am extremely pleased with how easily it plays. I had been playing on an equally priced starter Ibanez, and the Dean felt a lot more comfortable/easy to play in comparison, lot less finger fatigue.I did replace the stock stings with some Black Beauty strings, so that likely helped as well with the ease of playing, (and a pink guitar with black stings just looks really awesome!) but the Dean overall did feel more comfortable even before the string swap.I've had mine for over a year now and still love playing it. I would recommend this to anyone looking for an inexpensive starter bass.About the only minor downside I have with it, is the location of the amp plug. If you're sitting down to play at all, your right leg will bump into the amp plug. Not so much a problem verses just something I notice if I sit down. Very nice guitar! March 12, 2015 Really pretty - not as neon looking in person as it appears in the picture. It plays like how much it costs January 28, 2015 It plays like how much it costs. Still, good sound. But it didn't take long for my tone knob to come off, and I had to reconnect a wire to the tone knob after some turning. Love it, Love it, Love it February 5, 2013 This bass guitar steals the show and will get folks talking. Everyone who plays asks to see it, touch it, hear it. The color is subtle in the pics compared to the guitar in person. Add glow in the dark green strings and neon green DiMarzio Nylon ClipLock to complete the look. Great tone, for the price - it's a bargain. I was skeptical but Dean definintely makes a quality product. Dean Nuclear Green Bass looks and plays well June 9, 2012 This Dean Bass is very worth more than the price. Looks and sounds amazing. I may purchase another color in the future. If you are a starter this is in your budget. I played Bauhaus "Bela Lugosi Is Dead" right off... very amazing sound. You cannot go wrong with a Dean. | 63% Great bass guitar for a beginner May 19, 2017 Great bass guitar for a beginner. Good sound quality for the price. Amp however is another story. If purchasing again, I'd buy the guitar but get a better amp. Can't go wrong. January 25, 2017 Overall, a great kit and a FABULOUS looking guitar. VERRY nice build quality, the wood especially. It felt like it was a lot more expensive than it was. However, while the amp was amazing for the price, it did buzz a little bit when you set one of the tuning knobs on the guitar one way. Easy fix, but I kinda wanted to be able to use that knob for a purpose OTHER than just for not-buzzing.The strap is somewhat uncomfortable, no padding, but does its job. No complaint, because again, MONEY.Overall a fabulous product that you can't go wrong with. I have always been interested in learning about how to ... December 7, 2016 I have always been interested in learning about how to play the Bass Guitar. This Bass Guitar that I purchased, along with the amplifier is worth every dollar spent. I take my Bass Guitar, and my amplifier with me wherever I go. I use my spare time practicing, and learning all the different notes. Excellent bass and amp for the price August 24, 2016 Bought it purely to use with Rocksmith 2014. Works well with the Rocksmith program although level still isn't as high as with electric guitar. My acoustic/passive electric bass didn't provide enough of a signal for the program to detect. This Bass has just the one pickup, but does have individual adjusters at the bottom of each string to ensure proper pitch on the frets. Neck has tension bar adjustment. Excellent bass and amp for the price. Would buy again. awesome July 10, 2012 My first bass!!! Shipping is good and i love the bass and that it has no problems. The amp is small but very effective. I definitely reccomend this bass to anyone and reccomend to buy it Just what we wanted...courteous staff July 28, 2011 The bass was everything my son wanted and a price he could afford. The amp had a short in it, but we received a replacement within 2 days and shipped back the first one courtesy of the seller. Everything works great now and he's having fun playing with his dad, sister, and grandfather |
Four Star Reviews: | 18% Fantastic bass! Just some quality control concerns April 29, 2017 Absolutely love this bass! Elegantly simple and a blast to play, and sounds great - removed a star because while I have been super careful with this bass, eventually one of the tuning pegs became ever so slightly loose (not affecting the tightness of the string, but the whole peg itself, so it was a little bit crooked) - I pushed it back into alignment but I've never seen that happen before. More importantly, the tone knob one day just broke past its left/right limit, so it more or less spun freely and made a scratching noise when doing so - after some fiddling I got it to return to rotating smoothly and stopping at its left/right limits but it does not affect tone like it used to. This was likely more my fault, as I would rapidly spin it from max left to max right to compare tone, but it's also something I've never seen before. A Good Bass for Under $200 March 4, 2017 This bass is a great addition for those who want to add some gaudy 80's flare to their collection or for those on a budget but just wanting a decent instrument. It did need a substantial bridge (saddle) adjustment out of the box in order for it to feel comfortable to me. I use a pick (yeah, yeah) and rest my hand on the bridge, with that being said the strings were way to high for my liking. The bass itself is sturdy but I do agree with another reviewer that the nut could be a little better quality. The color on the front is vibrant and looks great but on the back you can see it was just slightly under-sprayed, or not overlapped properly on the paint strokes (but as it rests up against the body no one will see that.) Only other negative for me (which isnt major) is that I wall mount all of my basses and guitars and due to the shape of the headstock certain wall hangers dont work as well as the bass sits crooked in them and look funny on the wall. It is still a very good instrument with a great rock sound and in my opinion is a fun bass for under $200. This is the fifth guitar I have bought from Amazon and again I have had no problems with packaging, shipment, etc. Christmas gift March 29, 2014 Perfect gift. Works great!!! The receiver was very happy with this product. Would recommend. Great value and product. Thank You great bass for your buck March 16, 2013 bought this baby for my son, maybe he will get to play it if I can ever put it down. GREAT guitar, especially for the price. March 5, 2009 I found this bass on Musician's Friend and ordered it there originally; it had great reviews from an assortment of players and the nuclear green color looked amazing. I ended up canceling my order with MF because of just how popular this guitar is- They had to put a 30-day backorder notice on it.I paid the extra to get Amazon to ship it sooner and it was well worth it! The green is even sharper in person. I have never seen an instrument this color before.I have it plugged into my Fender 60w Rumble Bass amp and I get a really full sound. It's great, especially for the price! My complaints are minimal, especially for just how affordable this made-in-China guitar is. I have a small fret buzz that I'll probably be spending [...] bucks or so to fix and the jack is making my sound fuzz a wee bit. It's unnoticed when actually playing with another guitar, though (Yes, I checked! :) ). Keeping in mind you're only spending [...] bucks on a guitar, this bass' tone is GREAT.It's solid, great-looking, and a wonderful size for a medium-sized player (I'm 5'5'' and it's perfect). I love playing it and it's going to make a great impression on the stage. | 20% Fun to Play October 28, 2016 For the money this was a good buy. The amp has distortion but for the money I can't complain. I had to make a few adjustments to the bass - truss rod, and height of the strings. I enjoy playing with YouTube tunes. Lots of value for the money. Great Bass Not so Great Amp October 10, 2016 I have been playing with this Bass for a few days now. I bought this as a replacement for one that i had stolen a few years ago. I am just a beginner but i have a little bit of experience.Receiving the BassWhen i got the Bass it was packaged securely along with the amp and accessories in one box. (mine shipped USPS)The BassThe Bass itself has nice balance and weight distribution. The knobs have a nice size and design and the post have a nice smooth feel when adjusting. It may be a little heavy for a smaller person but all the basses i have seen are heavy but with my size it is a nice fit for me.i have only 2 issues with this guitar First the output jack is located on the bottom which causes the cable to hit my leg when i am sitting If it was on the front and not the bottom i wouldn't end up hitting the cord with my leg which i am afraid will eventually damage the cord and the jack. Also if you don't have a stand and lean it on the wall it bends the cord in the same place. Second the tuning pegs are a little on the loose side and are easily knocked out of adjustment. making tuning a bit of a challenge. I haven't looked to see if there is an easy way to tighten them up though. The CordThe cord is ok because of how it connects to the guitar I am already getting a light crackle from right below the connector. this is where it hits my leg and bends. (see above). I will be replacing the cord with one with a 90 Degree end(s)The bagThe bag is ok to start with. Mine has no pockets and is thin with no padding. but not a big deal. I think it would have been nice to have a pocket which would be a better place to store the cable and little notes and such. Later on i will replace the bag with a better one with pockets and padding. The strapThe strap is hard to get onto the buttons on the guitar. I had to slice the leather a little bit more to get it on and one end of the strap has a string on it which popped off where i almost dropped my new guitar. i removed the string and the strap is now a little short. I am going to just buy a strap that is a bit longer and has a pad.The picksThe picks i just tossed aside. I have never been able to play using picks. But they seem nice and decent quality. The AmpThe Amp is where this unit lost a star (almost 2). The external build quality is good nice sleek design easy access to controls. It is not too heavy, and has a decent carrying handle. The internal build quality leaves something to be desired. The controls are all scratchy and it makes a loud pop when turning it on and off, this is with no cable plugged in and all the controls turned down. It also picks up RF interference from electronics that are close by. it even picked up clicking from my tv remote.(don't ask me how) The speaker has a "tinny" sound to it and is hard to get lower frequency response out of it . Lastly it would have been nice to have an easy way to store or contain the power cable, a simple velcro strap on the back would allow an easy way to keep the cord from dragging and getting tangled up. I am going to do this on mine.Final ThoughtsAll in all though this would be a good starter unit for someone just starting out and wanting to learn. Make sure you get a good tuner that plugs into your guitar i have been using an app on my phone and it is a real pain to do with the sound quality of the amp and the loose tuning pegs. Four Stars September 21, 2016 Nice starter set, but strings are not the best quality. Busted one tuning it for the first time. Decent bass..... December 6, 2015 After reading other reviews, I decided to purchase this bass guitar for myself, as a gift for Christmas. As far as the bass itself, it's nicely done. I can tune it well. It has about as nice a tone as one can expect with subpar strings. The amp does the job, it's lightweight which makes for easy transport, if that's your thing. It's great for a beginner, for sure. The biggest problem was the packaging. The guitar arrived with the head popped out of the box. It caused scuffing on the end. Purely cosmetic and something I fixed with a tiny piece of sandpaper. The manufacturers packaging needs a padding of Styrofoam or something, to protect the ends. It was literally sticking out of the box and the only thing covering the guitar was a thin sheet of wrapping foam. Also, the neck was on the end with the amp, it's not a light box and is very long. I was surprised honestly that it wasn't broken. You got a good thing going here, it's a decent bass. I would suggest fixing the way it's packaged. Consumers expect to get what they pay for, in one piece. Updated: Very decent bass for the price April 5, 2015 UPDATE: After failing to fix the bass myself and with the help of Davidson's support techs, I returned it and just tested the replacement they sent me. No burrs on the fret board, no ground noise when connected to a powered mixer. I can actually use this bass for recording now, which is a very good thing for a budget bass. I'm sure most purchases with be far less headache than mine was, so as of now I will say this is a good buy for beginners.Old Review:The sound is not bad for a budget bass. I am still very new to playing, so this seems like a generally good one for practice. Sadly this guitar had me practicing my DIY repair skills more than playing initially. The build quality is rough to say the least. The first thing I noticed was the rattling of a loose washer on one of the tuning heads. No big deal, I just tightened up the nut to secure it better.Next I plugged it into the bundled amp. Some loud persistent buzzing put a quick end to that attempt. After some testing I determined that there is a bad ground in the bass guitar itself. I also picked up some battery powered Vox Amplugs which made the sound more bearable (some mild popping still occurs when touching the strings). I still have yet to open it up and check the wiring inside the bass. The ultimate sign of craftsmanship for this guitar was the fret board. Every single fret was jutting out beyond the width of the neck, just enough to snag your fingers. Not only that, but they were also sharp as hell. I'll admit that I did give myself a nice cut trying to play it. Fortunately, they were easy enough to shave down with a small metal file. I added a photo of the frets closer to the body that I have not filed down yet so you can see how far they stick out. Will this be worth my purchase after I finish fixing it? Despite it's initial flaws, I do like the action, tone and weight of it.Would I buy it again? Nope. Great sounding instrument December 31, 2014 Great sounding instrument. Good looking. Only gripe would be about the strap hook on the butt of the guitar. It is fastened by a small nail which does not have enough strength to hold that much weight. On the first day it stripped out of the wood and the guitar fell to the floor causing damage to the finish and chipped the wood. Maybe a larger, deeper screw would work better? |
Three Star Reviews: | 9% Good Bass for looks July 31, 2014 Its not a American Fender Bass, but it does the job... Quality 6 out of 10. Very Pretty Bass thought. It's okay September 24, 2013 The bass plays very good but the cord jack is loose and one of the volume knobs is broken, other than that I love it. Great bass. Love it. Would be perfect if it didn't take twice as long as it was supposed to. June 28, 2013 Pros:Great BassVibrant color (not as bright lime green as picture shows but still awesome)Great PriceCons:Amazon. The bass is great. I've played a lot of basses, this is the first dean bass I've played however I really enjoy it. It's lightweight, sounds good, nothing wrong with it and overall great price. The only problem I had with it is the shipping. I'm an Amazon Prime member and it took twice as long (and a whole other order) to get the bass delivered. This is the second package they've had to re-ship. This generally wouldn't be a big deal however you can find the bass cheaper at Guitar Center. I was willing to pay more to get it shipped fast, however I wish I would've just drove or ordered it from Guitar Center. Review on the body. (didn't play it) June 28, 2011 The bass wasn't to heavymy problem with it is the face of the guitaris so big, to me it makes the bass look ugly and bulkyThe green color is very sick in person, butit feels so cheap and plasticlyI feel like it wasn't worth the almost 200 dollarsI didn't get a chance to play it. If you buy for only the color, that's what you'll get. May 27, 2011 This bass is okay for a beginners.I was attracted by the color, which is why I bought it.The pickups often give unwanted feedback, even on Monster cables. The action is very difficult to set. You'll need an allen wrench to adjust the tremolo height. The truss rod is there, but I have not needed to adjust it since neck is straight. It is pretty durable and heavy, which is expected of a bass. The only problems seem to be the bridge and the pickups.Does not seem worth it to replace pickups.Just get a different bass! Good value for price November 26, 2010 Guitar is really good, especially for this price, but tuning machines are all screwed up. Two of them broke, so I had to replace them, so when you're buying the guitar keep that expense in your mind. | 8% Not worth the price. Get a cheaper bass kit. August 19, 2017 It's a okay bass and amp, but it's not worth the price. The amp made buzzing noises if you put the tone up too much, it's expected for a cheap amp so it's okay. But the major problem was that the guitar case smelled like some kind of animal pee. A cheaper beginner bass kit will have better quality than thiss one. Good for beginners who are starting to learn to play June 28, 2017 Good for beginners who are starting to learn to play. Quality is OK. It comes with an amplifier which is decent but not great. Good starter kit January 25, 2017 Great starter kit. If your kid doesn't want to play any more then you won't want to wring his neck because you spent 200 on a fender set. Be careful of the shoulder strap! October 28, 2016 Great starter set, but the shoulder strap popped off the guitar and we had to wood glue it back on. Otherwise, it's a great product and value! Good starter bass October 20, 2016 Good starter bass, the amp is trash and the jack on the bass is constantly loose are rattling around. I do like it though, a year later I still use it every day Quality Control Issues? September 27, 2016 The guitar seems to be good. But I'm new to guitars, and this is my first electric. That said, my only complaint so far is the strap button on the horn was so loose on arrival that I could pull the screw right out of the hole. I'll be repairing this simple problem on my own, but it's not a particularly good sign of adequate quality control from the seller or manufacturer. I hope I don't regret this purchase. |
Two Star Reviews: | 2% | 3% Because it looks to me like it wasn't put together or measured right at all December 1, 2015 I've just received the bass and the strings seem very far off the neck, though I know nothing about bass so I don't know if it's normal. I do know the 12th fret is nearly a half step off my root note on each string and that should not be the case. I attached some pictures if anyone can tell me if this neck is just completely cut wrong. Because it looks to me like it wasn't put together or measured right at all.I really don't want to have to hassle with a return on this heavy thing... If anyone can tell me it'd be must appreciated. Full Size Electric Bass Guitar Starter Beginner Pack with Amp Case Strap Black Package October 27, 2013 Ok this guitar isn't bad, after I changed the pickups and strings, adjusted pretty much everything even the neck and well now it sounds pretty good. The amp it comes with is garbage, total garbage, it did not work right at all which I figured would happen. The case is also horrible, the top side split apart and every zipper broke on contact so its useless. The pics are cool but how many pics do you need to play p-bass. If your thinking about getting this don't, you'ed be better off going to guitar center or some place like that and get a better guitar for the same price. |
One Star Reviews: | 1% Don't waste your money- this is pitiful December 14, 2016 This bass guitar is terrible. The nut is soft plastic, the string ate into the groove causing a buzz. When my son's music teacher tried to change the strings he noticed this, he stated that he had never seen a nut made of such soft material. Then when he removed the screw, or TRIED to remove it, it broke off in the head. Very cheaply made bass, I do not recommend this to anyone. If I could give 0 stars I would do so | 6% Save the money, do not buy June 27, 2017 Would not recommend this bass, low quality and the strings are low quality. Dead on arrival June 25, 2017 This bass guitar arrived dead it did not played. Disappointed no quality control. Order chipped and not complete December 17, 2016 I bought this and opened it today. The bass had a huge chip on the bottom of it. There was no accessories bag or strap. Only the broken bass and amp. There wasn't even a cord to plug the bass into the amp. I'm very disappointed because this was a gift for my fiance and I feel bad because my gift for him sucked. I thought It was going to be an awesome gift because he has always wanted to learn how to play one but never had one. But now he still doesn't have one. I'll have to rate this with only one star until this is fixed. But the surprise is already ruined by this cheaply made musical equipment. I knew it wasn't top of the line for only 100 bucks but I didn't think it was going to get broken before we even had a chance to open it. Probably happened during shipping but still. I expected better. So, so, so bad. March 28, 2016 This is the worst bass in the history of basses to start on.The action is unbelievably high, truss rod was stripped so I couldn't fix the neck to help with that. I took it to a luthier and he said it would cost as much as the bass was worth to make it usable to even learn on. Lesson learned, don't buy a cheap instrument even to start with.*guitarist learning to play the bass* Load of lies March 3, 2016 Came broken, no amp cable, and told me I can get 30% refund or send a 6 foot box back to them for full refund.Don't bother, I guess you get what you pay for you can't put amp on two or it's all fuzzy and distorted have to play with headphones January 20, 2016 Missing volume knob and lots of chips in paint not good |
