Awesome Buy!
January 12, 2016
This is a great set. After figuring out how to get the amp to stop being so noisy with inference and tuning the guitar, this is a great buy! I bought this as a Christmas present for my 8 year old and my boyfriend that has played his entire life as well as my brother and a friend that plays, really enjoys this set. If you're looking to get the rocking, screaming noise from the larger amps, you may want to purchase an amp with more watts. Otherwise, your neighbors may still complain with this little guy. We tuned ours with an iPhone app. Super happy!
Excellent packaging and the guitar arrived without any damage!
June 14, 2015
First, packaging was superb. I previously ordered an acoustic guitar set for my daughter from Amazon but it came damaged despite being in a hard case. This Davison Guitar, on the other hand, came in a soft case but was packaged securely and guitar arrived without any damage. Daughter loves the guitar and the amp was perfect for her needs. Not too big and bulky and just loud enough while she cranks out some riffs. Her instructor reviewed the guitar and said it was an excellent starter electric guitar. No complaints here, and would definitely recommend if you have a budding young musician on your hands.
Great For My Husband
May 28, 2015
I bought this on the recommendation of a friend who teaches guitar. He has a couple students who have bought these and he has been so impressed that now he suggests them for all of his students. My husband wanted to learn to play guitar and since this included the amp it was an easy choice. We could not be happier. Not only has he been learning to play, but the whole family has been picking it up. We are very happy with this guitar and amp and I guess we are starting a family band! This seems the perfect choice for anyone older or younger who wants to learn to play guitar. Love it.
Excellent condition and exactly as described.

The lesson I've learned this past week especially, is when it comes to expensive items I should always order the items sold by and shipped through Amazon because they send you what they describe and it does what the description says it will do. I've never been dissapointed or injured by anything with Amazon themselves as the seller.I just bought 2 bad products this week and neither were sold by Amazon, hence my observation. On to the guitar review....I used to play but hadn't in so long and so I wanted to get a basic electric that came with everything for as cheaply as I could do it. This guitar is sturdy, it plays nicely and looks good.It was packed in a big box with a smaller guitar box and one for the amp inside the outer package. Then inside that second box the guitar was in a soft case, with all kinds of bubble and wrapping around the head and neck. It just came in perfect brand new, perfectly functioning condition. The only thing I wish it had was more distortion on the amplifier itself, and also my headphone input cord is too small for the headphone jack so I need to get an adaptor somewhere because the amp, despite being so small is quite loud and even on the lowest setting it may bother neighbors if they are around. That's not a bad complaint though, for an amp.
the guitar that made tony misty eyed
December 25, 2013
this was a complete surprise , tony had absolutely no idea what was in the box . he immediately tuned it and started to play . it looked great , black and shiny , gleaming silver pickups . it sounded fantastic . the little amp was compact and , rather loud . this guitar was an excellent buy . he was so happy he got a little misty . now this guitar has 100 some comments this may never get read , not to mention it's out of stock at the time i reviewed it, x-mass day , but this is a great guitar , at a reasonable price . 5 stars .
5 Stars based on price. Guitar is not the worst, but far from best.
January 22, 2012
I bought this for Rocksmith. Works freaking awesome for the game. What seperates me a small bit from other Rocksmith players maybe, is that I am around tons of Guitar players (who have been playing for 10 years) and I really wanted to get into it. I had never even held a guitar, but I wanted to learn so I could jam in a year or two with my friends and co-workers. They made fun of me for buying a beginners package saying how crappy the guitar will be. I was worried, but when I got the package I was relieved to see it was not a rip-off. The guitar seems to be built well and stays in tune (according to the game, which seems to be pretty accurate). The amp works great... unbelievably loud... to play it in my man-cave... I can only turn it up 3-5% or it is overpowering. It also comes with a single piece of paper that is like a cheat sheet for beginners for guitar with basic cords and such. However, there is a little fret buzz when you strum the Low E string. From what I googled on this, it seems this can be because of a bad "nut" on the neck... more than likley if I took the guitar to a Guitar shop and had them restring it and fine-tune the things on it it would be great... but thats $50.At first I could tell no difference between this Guitar and my Friend's $1,500 Les Paul (because I was/am SOOOO new to the instrument... any instrument actually) but have quickly started to see the differences. This Guitar seems to sound sloppy and loose and feels that way after getting a feel for the guitar in general(even though it DOES keep tuned very well). Nicer Guitars seem to feel more fine-tuned and responsive and hold notes longer. Playing this Guitar and a high-end one side by side (by someone who knows what they are doing) provides very different sound to someone who knows what to listen for.Simply put, this guitar is more than worth the Money... but once you get addicted to Guitar, which I have in the two weeks I've had it (I've played for probably 30-35 hours already)... I am already trying to rationalize reasons to buy a much nice (and more expensive) Guitar that plays "smoother".I give this product 5 stars because of the price. If its wasn't so Cheap, I'd never have gotten into Guitar... now I am addicted and see the benifits of a more expensive Guitar, and appreciation for the instrument.

A beginner's bass you may never need to replace
August 26, 2017
Very solid and well built like a piece of fine furniture, can't find any flaws in the fit or finish and the neck and frets are nice and smooth plus the rosewood is nice and dark. Much heavier than expected at 9 pounds (the specs say 6), I assume this may have something to do with the wonderful sustain. The action is nice and close with no buzzing and you can get a range of sound out of it with the dual pickups. Completely happy with all aspects being as good or better than expected especially for this price.
Awesome bass for the price
July 12, 2017
Mainly a guitar player but was asked to help with playing bass at church and didn't want to spend a lot on a bass. Did some research and stumbled onto this bass and it got 4-5 stars for reviews everywhere I looked. Debated on it and took the plunge and bought it. Got it last week and have been playing almost every day. Been years since I have owned a bass but this one is making it a lot easier to get my bass skills back. Out of the box was setup great to me and the craftsmanship is A+ on my bass. The action was pretty good but may lower it a little bit later on. The fret work for a $200 bass is awesome. I got the red metallic color one and the finish is great. The options with the pickups and tone knob make this bass a very versatile bass and sounds great. I have used it with my Peavey Vypyr VIP3 amp on the Trace Elliott bass model as well as the Peavey am model and both sounded really good to me. I also own a Digitech GNX3000 which has bass amp models in it. This really sounded great to me with various bass amp models(77 Ampeg SVT, Trace Elliott Commando and a Fender Dual Showman) and adding a compressor really made this bass sound awesome. If you are looking for a great bass at an affordable price then just buy this one and you will not be sorry.

I can't image a better quality product out of box at anyway near this price. Finish good, frets good, pickups good, volume and tone knobs good, tuners good, shipping package great. Tune up and maybe adjust the action if you care to-I didn't. Good deal
I was pleased beyond my wildest expectations.
February 27, 2016
This is a fantastic bass. I been checking this series out since they first came out in 2008. Being a bass snob I wouldn't give it, or any Fender bass, serious consideration before. But I finally gave in and ordered it. The fit and finish far exceed the Fender USA and MIM models. And it sounds just as good. It's a good price. It's on par with the CIJ and MIJ Fenders of the past. Why spend 4-5 times as much for a USA one which IMHO is highly overrated and suffers in quality. To put my opinion in perspective, my other bass is a German Warwick NT Thumb Bass and my amp is a Mesa Boogie Walkabout Scout. I've also owned a lot of the USA Music Man basses. The hype is for real on this one. If you want Fender go Classic Vibe. But change out the strings to LaBella flats.
A great 5 string fender bass buy!
October 23, 2015
I just bought this bass after playing an Ibanez soundgear sr505 bass for quite a few years in a rock band and Christian rock band.I have always wanted a fender bass jazz or precision but couldn't seem to justify the 1,400 dollars.I must say though how impressed I am when this thing hit my door. It came out the box looking perfect and beautiful.I thought ok thats good lets tune it up and play a little spooky with the cd and it played great right out of the box. has great action without buzzing anywhere on the neck so that was sweet. It also stayed in tune which is so very important. The neck feels good. Its a little wider than my Ibanez but not too wide like some of the older basses I remember playing. I think It fits the left hand just right as a matter of fact. All in all it seems very well built and only time will tell playing live every week here in southern Illinos on just how nice this bass is.I love the tone and cant wait to really give it a road test. It it all pans out like I think it will for $300.00 you really cant beat this deal!
he absolutely loved the Squier by Fender basses
October 13, 2015
Recently worked with a bassist that has two of these, he had the 5 string P Bass and the 4 string Jazz, we talked a bit about the different basses that we both have played, he absolutely loved the Squier by Fender basses. The guitarist I work with probably owns about 10 guitars, two of which are Squier by Fender and he really likes them. Lately I've playing my 5 string bass and was in need of a new 4 string. I was a little reluctant at first but after talking to the folks decided to give the Squier Affinity P/J Bass a try, I was blown away by the sound quality, the feel and playing action. This bass is very light in weight compared to my Fender P Bass which works well for me doing a 4 hour gig. At my first rehearsal with my band my bandmates they were very impressed with the sound quality. Unless you are super picky, for the money you can't go wrong with this bass.

Very good beginner guitar kit it is the is a cheap guitar but it sounds ok for what it is. If you purchase this you may want to buy a new amp cause the only that comes with it sucks.

Great for a new beginning better than a gun live to fight another day. Don't get played like a piano with higher prices for a new beginning. I would give it 5 stars but my amp was missing when I received mine also works with Rocksmith.
Its ALRIGHT.
February 16, 2015
It has been my dream for a while to play the guitar, so I started with a beginner, I give it a 4/5 because, the amp would buzz everytime I would put it in overdrive or even just play it, and the thing in the guitar where you plug it into the amp, just turned over inside of the guitar one day, so now I have to play it without the amp until I get a new one. Good job.
Great looking!
October 24, 2013
My son loved it. The amp is really small and their is a slight buzzing sound, but it doesn't interfere with the overall guitar. I bought it for my six year old and he loved it! Great for the price and a beginner!

Good for the Price
December 13, 2015
This is a good bass for the money. We had to have a couple of frets adjusted, the neck tightened, and the nut lowered on one side to get the sound right. And of course, new strings. We may have received a lemon, but it sounds great now. Cosmetically, it looks beautiful. Even with the cost of the repairs added in, we got more for our money than we could at the local guitar store.
Great Bass
June 29, 2015
This is my first bass guitar, so I didn't really have much expectations for it. The guitar feels great, no problems playing it. The wood feels of high quality. The tuners held up well over the past 3 months. Would be 5 stars but two of the volume knobs fell out while playing it, even though the guitar was taken well care of. Either way, it is still a good value.
Worth It
June 9, 2015
Finicky tuning at first but settled in with awesome sound. Looks and feels great which makes you want to play it constantly. Arrived with absolutely no product info such as user guide or info as to where to get online information for Fender Squire guitars.

Overall very nice, but hastily assembled and apparently not tested. The bridge pickup was rocked forward under the pickup cover so that there was almost no output. repaired that, and all is well. Plays, sounds great. Finish is perfect. I like it.
I would recommend.
January 26, 2015
Bridge pickup is a little bit noisy when recording, but overall this bass sounds, feels and plays great for the price point. As a lifelong guitarist who needed a decent, versatile and inexpensive bass for home recording purposes, I would definitely recommend it.
Pleasantly Surprised
December 31, 2014
As a guitarist who got a wild hair to branch out into bass, I did a lot of research into the usual entry level instruments. While I really debated on purchasing the the full scale Vintage Modified Jag Bass that was very close in price, I decided to pull the trigger on this Affinity model. After receiving it, I'm very happy with it. The construction is solid and I haven't found any fret problems that you sometimes get with more afforsable instruments. The metallic red finish is really quite stunning and the rosewood fret board has varying shades which I really like. The pickups seem pretty sweet for this price point. The P pickup delivers a nice low end rumble while the J delivers more of a high end pop. My only complaint would be that I wished in came in Burgundy Mist Metallic like its Jazz Bass cousin. All in all, I'm very happy with it.

Nothing Fancy-A Good Starter Package-Some Issues
March 19, 2015
MADE IN CHINA--three little words that mean low quality materials, cheap construction and the low price American consumers seem to be willing to accept for these Chinese made goods. That said, this is a decent starter set. I bought it because I haven't had an electric guitar in some time and just wanted to see if I still remember what I used to know and if I still like playing without investing a lot of money. This package is fine for my purposes and, if I find I like playing again, will surely upgrade soon. No Made In China guitar is going to get five stars from me since only high end labels like Fender, Gibson, Ibanez and Paul Reed Smith deserve five stars in the category. The pros and cons are below:Pros:Guitar is reasonably well made--not high end just reasonably well put together.Amplifier has a decent sound for a tiny amp.Cable is long enough to play the guitar at a reasonable distance from the amp.Strap is okay.Cons:The strings are real garbage. Your fingers will TURN BLACK after just a few minutes of playing. They're cheap and likely to break after a short period of time. The fret wires are not rounded at the edges of the neck and you can cut your fingers and snag clothing on them. The picks are cheap garbage. The guitar body is very light weight--essentially meaning that the wood is not high quality. The gig bag is cheap, thin canvas and smells like chemicals. The amp has a very, very strong, unpleasant smell that goes away after about twelve hours. The pitch pipe is useless--any pitch pipe for guitar tuning is useless and to tune any guitar correctly, you need an electronic tuner of some sort. The amp overdrives easily and shreds sound even without turning on distortion mode. You should DO THE FOLLOWING:File down the ends of the fret wires so they're round and flush with the edges (sides) of the neck. Use a very fine, metal file and it won't take long.Get some decent strings and replace the ones that ship with it as soon as possible. The guitar will sound better and your fingers won't turn black. AND who knows what the black stuff on your fingers is...Get some decent picks of various thicknesses to replace the junk ones that ship with the package.IF you can afford it, buy an electronic tuner to use AFTER replacing the strings with a higher quality set. Conclusion:This package is okay for a beginning player or someone who wants to get back into playing. The price is certainly reasonable and, even though you'll need to file the fret wires and replace the strings immediately it's an okay purchase.
Guitar good, amp not so good
May 6, 2013
The package was delivered a day early, which was pretty cool, and everything seemed to be in tact. The guitar works fine, but the amp makes a very loud and annoying static or scratchy-buzzy sound. No matter what I do, the sound overwhelms any of the guitar you hear. When I touch or move any part of the chord that's plugged into the amp then the sound gets even worse. Other than the dysfunctional amp, this was a good deal.
Good but has problems
February 16, 2013
Overall good guitar but it has some pressing issues. First off; in the pictures of this guitar, its two different guitars. Its not a huge difference and there are only minor differences between the two, but its just an observation. Now, the problems with the actual guitar. The strap buttons are not screwed into the guitar very well, I was trying out my new strap that I got, when I hear a snap and a clink. Thank God I was holding the guitar in my hands as opposed to letting the guitar hang (as the point of having a strap it). So I look down and the strap button is detached from the guitar, lying on the floor. Now that really is not a big deal unless you WERE letting the guitar hang as that would add on to the never ending cash flow put into the guitar. If the strap button does fall off and you avoid disaster you should be able to get a new one put in at your local music store. Second thing; the cord that connects the guitar to the amp - is crap. Again not a big deal you can just buy a nicer one for 10-20 bucks. Third; not sure if personal preference or not, but I don't really like the picks. Fourth; the bridge can be strange with the screw coming out and string buzzing. Fifth; the neck gets warped. But on the flip side its a great guitar for beginners who are just picking up the instrument. Just be prepared to pay a wad of cash to your local music shop.

Could've been great
March 24, 2015
The workmanship was impeccable, the neck felt good (narrower than typical p-bass and c-shaped) and it played great. Then I made the fatal mistake by replacing the pickguard with a pre-wired pickguard upgrade I had bought...many of the wood holes on the Squier agathis body were already stripped or quickly did so with one unscrewing/rescrewing...<<insert expletive here>>. I had an ash body that I used in its place, but I would not have bought this had I known the quality of the body. It is nice having the neck lined. The marking does jut out a tad that it can be heard when sliding...not necessary something you want. The tuners seem pretty good. The nut seemed a bit too wide for the neck and wasn't cut well. I fixed some of the problems, but you get what you pay for, or less than...
If I Had to Do All Over Again...
January 22, 2015
The bass was very pretty (which was important to me); however, two of the knobs came off. The Allen wrenches that were provided didn't fit the holes. Luckily I had an Allen wrench that worked. The strings buzz like crazy. Since I am just learning how to play, I'm not sure if anything else is wrong with the guitar. If I had it to do all over again, I would purchase my bass in a shop where I can see it, hear it, and get assistance from someone at the time of purchase.
Only A Little Better than the Affinity PJ
March 17, 2014
'Vintage Modified' Squiers usually have 'Duncan Designed' pickups - this one doesn't appear to; but at least it has a high-mass bridge block. The bass I received made me suspicious - I went and compared it to a Affinity PJ bass at a local music store: The 'Vintage Modified' I received had a different headstock logo and a tinted neck - otherwise it has the SAME lightweight body as the Affinity and the SAME metallic red color as the Affinity. It's supposed to be 'candy apple red' - it is NOT. It also sounds and plays almost the same, except the Vintage Modified has a bit more sustain. Save the $120 difference in price and get an Affinity. Or; save even more bucks and get an actual Fender.Nevertheless, I got this bass professionally set up and it plays and sounds quite well. But Squier/Fender - you guys ought to be a little more honest in the marketing of this bass. It's NOT awful - just not worth what you are charging.

This shouldn't come up in a search for bass guitars
November 9, 2017
This was listed with bass guitars which is what I was searching for I ordered it thinking that I was getting a bass guitar it is not at all what I needed for my son
Good for beginners but not the best for its finish, sound, tuning and the effects are extremely basic.
April 30, 2016
Meh it was good for the first 6 months. Recently my B string has been ringing for weeks and I tried to fix it and today it started to ring again. It is a good guitar for a starter pack, but if you want a good guitar, I wouldn't recommend this to you. It stays in tune for about two weeks, over the course of having this guitar. The cords sometimes glitch and I cant hear my guitar play for a few seconds. It came in with a few broken pieces of plastic off of it. Not buying from again. The cord and the amp creates a loud pop. It has done this since the first day on arrival. Idk if I should return it or what but oh well..
Seems like good guitar, but terrible static noise with amp
December 26, 2015
The guitar is nice, but the amp for some reason makes really loud static noise when the guitar volume is at anything above a 2. The static is so bad it is louder than the guitar itself so you cannot hear yourself playing. When I use the guitar with Rocksmith it is perfect, but the amp is not good. I am not so sure if it is the amp or the cable, but the static is terrible
even though the price is very cheap, this is made so poorly
August 20, 2015
obviously made in chinawell...i don't really care about the fact that my guitar was made in china, but overall quality of the guitar is very badi know it's cheap, but this is made too poorlyfirst of all, there was still sawdust left on the guitar neck and on string which made the bad quality of guitar string even worsesecond, the guitar tuners are worthless; i have to F ing tune the guitar every 30 minsthird, the most frustrating, 12th and 15th fret on E cord is malfunctioning. It's too high (actual height, not pitch) that rest of 13th and 14th frets sounds all same. I hope other products are not made like this in the factory. Maybe i should sand it or something;;

January 29, 2015
This guitar came package pretty well. The only problem was that the included audio cable supplied was terrible. Too much noise was in the line. The second problem, is that it seem the guitar pickups were not completely tighten down. I know they are used to adjust the height of the pickup but the screws look like they were about to come out. This is my first guitar and I did not plan on having to do all this work before I could actually begin playing. Once i bought a better cable and tighten everything down then all was fine.
Eh.
January 19, 2015
My guitar arrived in a box within a box which, I kind of don't mind. Except, the outer box is beaten up and looks as if it were thrown around. Now, the guitar itself is pretty good, but for some reason, there's a scratch on it, and it's just irritating to look at. It feels as if I've been ripped off in a way. The only problem for me, is the amp itself. Lots of annoying and loud buzzing when I'm messing with the tone and volume. The overdrive button makes it sound worse. The case is eh. To be honest, I like the guitar itself, but the amp just sucks butt lol. All in all, you get what you paid for. Great guitar and accessories. Poor amp.

December 20, 2014
Upon receiving the instrument I thought it was okay, after actually playing it however I realized that the tuning machines were shaking and broken. That resulted in me paying an extra 60 dollars to buy a new set and then set it up myself, along with a new set of strings. After the first month the the bottom tone knob suddenly came off, I have no idea why, but it did. Other than those two mishaps this instrument plays fairly well for $200. The metallic red gives the instrument a beautiful look.I definitely recommend you to go out to your nearest guitar shop and buy one you like there, don't expect to not run into any problems from buying an instrument online.

After two uses of the guitar the plug on the guitar broke and you can no longer plug it to the amp. I know it's cheap but come on, I expect better longevity than this.
You get what you pay for.
December 4, 2013
It does come with everything you need to start. However, as soon as I started tuning it, the E string broke 5 minutes out of the box. Took to to a store, got it restrung. In less than a week, the nut started to angle down and the E and B string started to vibrate against the frets. Took it back to the store, tech said he would have to replace the nut because the strings were cutting into it. He didn't even think the guitar was worth the cost to fix it.The amp has a serious buzz to it. There is even a paper in the box that says "a certain amount of buzzing and static hum is normal" well, perhaps, but when you can hear the buzz over the guitar, it isn't.On the positive side, there is a nice variety of picks included and the strap works great!I am just starting to learn to play and it seems worthwhile to spend a little more money, get a decent guitar and amp instead of putting up with the headaches from this one.
