Five Star Reviews: | 68% Best out of ALL September 25, 2017 I've tried a lot of different pastes. This one checks all my boxes. Here's the ones I've tried and a short problem I have with each: Reuzel Pink Grease - too greasy, can't wash it off easily, hands OR hair. Smooth Viking Styling Clay - didn't style very easily, didn't stick hairs together. Challenger Blue, Matte Styling Cream - dried too quickly on your hands, had to style it quickly. Tigi Bed Head, American Crew Fiber and a few more that are forgettable. The closest was Mitch Reformer, but it didn't have that great of a hold. I have thin, straight hair, and this is the best styling creme that I've come across. Highly recommend! Love it August 10, 2017 I have tried multiple products for my hair and this is by far my favorite. I have thick hair with some body to it and it can tend to fall out of place but this stuff keeps it where it's supposed to be without turning it into a crusty mess of hair that cracks under pressure. I usually use a very small amount unless I need some heavy hold. It doesn't give you a greasy, shiny look. Some people dig the pomade shine, but not me. I like this matte look. Holds it well, but still keeps it natural looking and classy. Finally June 20, 2017 Had Asian hair that would constantly spring up when cut medium-short despite what pomade I used, and this seems to hold it down all day without drying out.A little sticky to the touch on your hair but not bad enough to keep you from using it. Little smell, matte finish - a win May 29, 2017 I love that this has almost no, but pleasant scent. My son is very picky and won't use anything that even smells the least bit "girly". He has a short style and uses this on the top to hold his style is short spikes. I like that it has a matte finish, so doesn't look shiny at all. It's hold is fairly good for a few hours. It does tend to lose its holding power much quicker in hot weather, however, it still keeps the hair tame and keeps it from sticuout in all directions! Surprisingly good product April 26, 2017 Surprisingly good product. For me I apply this with dry hair at night (no larger than a dime size) & by the morning I still have a firm hold with a natural no gel look. Not trying to sound conceded but the hair gets questioned all the time because it doesn't look greasy but still holds a heavy messy look with no issue. I will certainly purchase another jar after this runs low. Works for men's hair short to medium April 8, 2017 Great product for men's styles. Wet to dry application. Hold isn't 100% which is good and bad. For short styles it has much better hold. For medium to long it's a soft hold which allows manipulation throughout the day but also works product out and leaves a very non cohesive look. Works for higher styles combined with hair spray. I have been trying forming creams and balms for over 20 years and nothing compares. On my third container now. I use it daily and the container lasts me about 9 months. October 14, 2016 A really great product. I've used many different creams and gels. Everywhere from Davine's, to Redkin for men and into the typical Crew and etc.. This cream is nice and thin, yet it doesn't take a great deal of product to do its thing. It is not nearly as noticeable as other hair products are other than it smells great. I did have a concern and contacted the company. They were very quick to answer and also take care of things. Great product. Great company. Buy some now! Great cream!!!! October 27, 2015 I bought this for my husband. He is growing out his beard and is all the time using lotion, or my shine spray anything to go on his face. Once he tried this he loved it and has bragged about it to all his guy friends growing out their beards. He loves the scent says its manly but still subtle. Four Star Reviews: | 15% Works great - similar to Aveda's Control Paste... August 22, 2017 I bought this as an alternative to Aveda's Control Paste, and for the most part I'm pretty satisfied. It's a "hair" greasier than Aveda's offering, but it's not unmanageable. Taking into consideration it costs less than half the price for more quantity, I'd be hard pressed to go back to Aveda's paste. You could do far worse - give it a try! Great natural feel but jar must be kept closed July 14, 2017 Great natural feel. No greasiness or stickiness. Doesn't feel like anything is in my hair. No scent.I left the jar open and it doesn't seem to hold as well anymore or as nicely. It's firm consistency allows me to shape my hair where I want it, and has a matte finish which is extremely important to me. Can't stand the oily, greasy products that darken and flatten my hair. Great for boys, okay for men March 8, 2017 This is a really solid forming cream. It works great right out of the shower or splashing your hair with some water and then adding the cream. It has a slight liquid cream form that is easy to work in. The one drawback is that it almost has a fruity smell. Just be wary product though doesn't hold well if your hair is too wet, so make sure you hair is dry, but if you want a more natural look, you can dampen you hair a bit and adding in the clay. Pretty Good July 1, 2017 I'm a fan of this but didn't find it to be as good as the competitors. I like this since it doesn't really have a smell, but I keep going back to Woody's for the hold despite not being a fan of the smell at all or the color. No real complaints but no real praise either. I have a pixie cut and often want to style it in a pompadour, and I use this product to keep the sides of my hair slicked back. I use it when I want things to stay put. February 23, 2017 I wanted to give Smooth Viking Styling Clay 5 stars but had to take off a star ONLY because I have thick hair that stubbornly grows outward on the sides, therefore in order to help my hair stay down and slick back on the sides I do have to use some Axe Shine Pomade. However, other than that this clay is awesome! It is a rather thick clay so sometimes I have put a drop of water to help smooth it out better but you don't necessarily have to do that. Doesn't really have a smell in my opinion but that's fine on account of I wear cologne. I love this clay as opposed to pomades because I didnt want the greasy wet look, so Matte finish is on point with this clay. I will say that the hold could use some work because admittedly I do have to do a spray or two of hairspray to get the hold I want. ... I first tried this product it went in real easy and did not have much hold to it July 9, 2016 When I first tried this product it went in real easy and did not have much hold to it. I was really disappointed. But I hadn't washed my hair in a couple days so I decided to take a shower then try again. It was much harder to go through my hair but provided a very nice matte finish and gave me much better hold. I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5 because the hold could be a bit better but is still really good. But it is tough trying to get it through my hair. April 10, 2017 So this is an okay product, probably best suited for extremely short hair. If you have medium to medium-long hair, this stuff gets clumpy in a hurry. I've shopped around tons of matte clays and landed on Aveda (I'd order from their site, FYI). Main reason is if you want a stronger hold, you generally have to use more product. With this Lamel clay, the more you use, the more it sticks to itself, which no longer looks matte or invisible at all... almost like hair gel. Aveda and Paul Mitchell's clays stick more to your hair and remain invisible, doing what you're wanting it to do - look natural as if the product isn't there and giving you a strong hold. Not saying this is a bad product, but if you're like me and have medium to medium-long hair and you're looking for a good clay, I'd probably look elsewhere. I like a little bit of hold to keep my hair from flopping into my eyes and to keep it neat in the back. This had no hold at all and was a little damp, which caused all my cowlicks to appear in full force. I looked worse than if I had used nothing. If you don't care about hold at all, it did have some good points. It smelled nice, it's matte, and it did add some body. Hard as a rock October 21, 2015 The clay is really hard and did not seem to do anything for my hair. Gave it to a friend to try and she thought the same thing. Would not purchase again. I don't feel comfortable using products July 30, 2015 I ordered the product and it arrive promptly. However, when I read the information on the packaging I discovered that the product is made in China. I don't feel comfortable using products, directly applied to my skin/hair or ingested, that are made in China. This is not a suitable alternative. The texture is nothing like any clay product I've ever used. Where clay has a paste-like texture, this product is gelatinous. It truly feels like flan. Clay generally coats the hair and leaves it reshapable for the rest of the day, this product does not. It's kind of like an extra thick mousse that just loses its hold if you run a comb through it. It's probably fine if you're just trying to experiment with something new, but to call it a clay is just a lie. Thick Hair = No Hold June 25, 2016 I have a lot of very thick hair. This unfortunately means that this product has almost no hold. There aren't any looks that I want to achieve that it is able to manage.
