Five Star Reviews: | 53% The machine is very good. The biding combs don't work May 1, 2016 The machine is very good. The biding combs don't work....they are too small. Anyway I bouth everything for the machine which is great! Professional and inexpensive October 7, 2015 I have used this with several books now and find it easy to use. Try some practice runs, and different sizes of combs. Depending on the thickness of the paper and laminate it will very on what you can bind. Love it! June 22, 2015 Since this was one of the least expensive comb binders to choose from, I was very skeptical. However, when it arrived and I opened it up and saw that it was made of metal and the construction was of very good quality I new I didn't choose poorly. After doing some test binds with it (yes, you need to practice a little) it works great and I could not be happier. Only negative is the directions are not real clear on how to use it. That is why you need to practice with it before using it on your real project. Also, it came with two packages of 1/4" binding combs. This is a great machine and excellent price March 23, 2015 I've been waiting for one of these machines for years, but they were too expensive. This is a great machine and excellent price. I would definitely recommend to others. I'm very happy and can't wait to use it and share with my friends. | 78% Old Versus New Fellowes Binding Machine July 20, 2017 The Fellowes Binding Machine Quasar E Electronic version replaced a very old manual version of the Fellowes Binding system. The new one is a DREAM to use. Would highly recommend this product for persons operating a small business. Great Unit April 17, 2017 We had a manual one for years that finally gave out and we replaced it with this electric one. It does a great job. I love that there is a slide out drawer for the punched out paper. SOOO much easier to empty than the old one! I hope it lasts as many years! Great binding machine! March 26, 2017 As a Realtor, we use this binding machine to make presentation folders for our listings. They look professional and easy to make. The binding machine is easy to use and we really like it. It was worth the investment. GREAT PRODUCT!! DEFINITELY WORTH THE MONEY February 20, 2014 I totally wish I had purchased this a long time ago as it is worth the money. Great machine, sturdy, a little heavy (no complaints at all just giving a review), well built, fast, easy to use. If you have ever used a manual binding machine, you know how long it takes to punch and bind. After one use you will not go back to manual unless your power goes out. Capable of punching and assembling as you go. Totally like the tray that holds the binding combs. Nice feature so that I don't have to keep the box on the table. This machine is so easy to use I had help from a sixth grader who after a little supervising and instructions was able to do it on her own. Just make sure that your paper sits all the way down inside the punching area. Use the line on the lid is your guide that the paper sits down properly. The edge of your paper should be flush with the line on the lid. I highly recommend to anyone who is considering purchasing this machine Works like a champ! May 11, 2010 I was very happy with this comb binder. I made a little over 100 books of 70+ sheets plus cover stock, and the only problems I encountered were due to operator error (aka, me). Considering that's about 400 punches right out of the box, I was impressed.I like the vertical loading, as the back rest showed me if the paper was loaded correctly. Although the machine is rated to punch up to 20 sheets, I could tell that it was straining the motor. When I punched about 17 sheets, it worked much better.Overall, a great machine for a great price. |
Four Star Reviews: | 23% Not bad but I have never used one of these machines so I have no comparison. March 14, 2017 I received the machine and immediatelly started binding my calendar. Did some practice punching. The punching was easy, the hard part is getting these 1/4 inch binder strips to open. I think bigger ones will be easier. I had to push each band a little to get them to engage in the retractors but after playing with it for some time it finally worked. For the price, I think it is a real good deal. Very inexpensive and since I do very little binding I did not want to spend a lot of money. Previously I had taken one of my Calendars down to Office Depot to have them punch and bind. They charge around $3.00 per item. They miss punched one of my calendars and they had to recopy it for me at their expense. If you had to do a lot of punching it wouldn't take long at $3.00 a binding to reach the cost of this machine not counting the time and gas to get to Office Depot. I have only bound three things but so far I am very satisfied. Just don't punch too many sheets at one time and it should last a long time. You can usually tell by how much stress you can feel when you punch. If it does not cut easily, you have too many sheets inserted. In other words, do not fill the slot to capacity and your machine will like you. good product August 6, 2015 I really liked the price. I had a little trouble at first understanding the process but now I can use it fairly easily. We use it for home school projects or to print out things I have downloaded and need a paper copy. | 10% Nice looking, easy to operate July 20, 2017 Nice looking, easy to operate. The hole punch blades seem easily wear out. The punched edge is not clean only after less than 2000 pages - 7 x 300 pages menu. Wondering if the punch blades can be replaced. Good Machine March 20, 2017 Worked extremely well and very easy to operate. I would have given it 5 stars but the comb is somewhat difficult to readjust if you do not get it perfectly set the first time. Great for the price February 15, 2013 This replaced a machine made by a company no longer in busiess that had lasted 5 years before someone jammed it with too many covers. The mechanics of this machine are solid, though the plastic housing is a bit weak. The first unit I was shipped was badly damaged in the shipping process. Amazon was of course quick to replace it for free, but it was a bit annoying to wait for the exchange. The duty cycle and number of pages it recommends you punch at a time seem to be realistic. Satisfied June 6, 2011 Im satisfied and glad I purchased the electric model. However, it does not punch 20 pages as stated. If you try to do 20 pages all at once it sounds like it's going to damage the machine. I would say 14 or so is probably safe. Quasar E 500 May 29, 2011 Decent binding machine. Not sure that the cover is very useful, but it punches easily and has a tray below for storing and sizing a few combs. |
Three Star Reviews: | 12% PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!! October 2, 2016 The machine is pissing me off. I have been trying to bind my book, which isn't but may 10 pages but cant figure out how to bind it. Punching the holes was easy part but after reading the instruction numerous times it was confusing and frustrating. Some please help me!! | 4% I was disappointed that it did not cut through plastic page covers ... December 15, 2016 I was disappointed that it did not cut through plastic page covers very well and that it was not long enough to bind my music books which was the prime reason I purchased the machine. There is no power cord in my box so cannot ... November 28, 2016 There is no power cord in my box so cannot use it til I get one? Not sure if it normally has no power cord. Looks pretty, does its job, but lacks depth (adjustment) January 28, 2014 We found the need to replace a ten year old machine when it developed an odd electrical short (continuously punching) and figured it'd be just as economical to buy a new machine as it would be to find a qualified repairman to fix the old one (I don't believe the manufacturer is still in business). Besides, the old one had its problems. It did everything you'd need but max punching was 12 pages, it weighed about 35 pounds, and the paper chads regularly clogged up the the very poorly designed waste tray. This new machine does solve much of those problems. It's significantly lighter yet still durable, the waste tray is conveniently placed on the side and the machine has a nice little window in the front to monitor how full it is. If it does get clogged it might be difficult to unclog, but I'll just have to hope that won't happen. It says it has a max paper capacity of 20 pages, but I think 15 or a little less is a safer amount if you want to keep your machine running well. Still a significant improvement over 12 max (9 pages to be safe). It also has a very attractive design, sleek and unobtrusive when closed up.I doubt I'll have much use for the little storage tray though, certainly not for regularly used combs anyway. And once you get used to comb sizes you'll have very little use for the guide. It might be good for odd sizes and little tools that you might occasionally use.Unfortunately there are a couple things I'm not really happy with.I guess I just took the adjustable punch depth on the old machine for granted, but now that it's gone I realize it will be a slight problem. If you've ever found the need to punch and bind something like a good sized pamphlet you'd know it works best if the inside pages have a narrow depth and outside pages are deeper. at one depth a 20+ page folded document will start to bunch.Plus, the single depth on this machine is rather shallow. The inside of the hole is pretty close to the edge of the paper. not quite an 1/8", more like 3/32". It seems adequate but I always used a deeper depth setting on my previous machine and it makes me think they will have a higher likelihood of developing rips at the edges.Smaller combs (1/4", 5/16", even 3/8" sometimes) also tend to get stuck behind the comb guides and there isn't room behind them to adjust them with your fingers. So it's likely you'll be using a pencil or something similar to work the smaller ones into place, or to remove them if you need to. It's not impossible to pry one out with your fingers, but it's not simple either. [edit: upon further usage, this is less of a problem. You can't get your finger in the back, but you a comb forward with your fingertip easily enough. occasionally you may still need a makeshift tool to move combs into place, especially the 1/4", but it's not as bad as I first made out.]I'm still in the window of time where I could reasonably return this and get something else but it looks like the alternatives with a depth adjustment are other heavy, unattractive machines, and cost about 50% more, so I'll probably stick with this one and consider the problems with this machine minor annoyances. If it we used it daily, I wouldn't want this to be our machine, but weekly or monthly projects that don't last longer than a couple days to a week will probably mean the issues will remain tolerable. |
Two Star Reviews: | 6% Blah July 18, 2016 Not easy to use. I've used the same kind of binder for years and this one looks exactly the same. I am a teacher and use these a lot. This one doesn't work right. Spend a little extra and get a decent brand. | 2% Poor design October 5, 2015 Does not work well if you don't have small fingers to get behind binder and push forward |
One Star Reviews: | 6% Junky Product...Don't Buy July 22, 2016 We bought this for our school and the 'arm' was broken. It wouldn't go in the 'up' position. We had to use it on our lap or on the edge of the table to bring the arm all the way down to make the punches. After about 15 pages, it was only punching holes in the middle part of the page. After troubleshooting, we could not fix it.There is not even a brand name on this product so I couldn't look up answers online.Even though this isn't a Prime product, Amazon reimbursed us right away. Thank you Amazon! Others, I would highly recommend NOT buying this product! | 6% One Star August 30, 2017 The machine does not make a clean cut and leaves all kinds of paper dust everywhere. Machine is then useless! April 19, 2017 Incomplete package: missing power cord in initial order and in replacement! Machine is then useless! restrictive paper size April 6, 2014 Really disappointed that this binder only does legal A4. This was not clearly articulated in the product description. We have to now go to great expense to ship this product back for a refund. No Electrical cord or Starter Kit November 20, 2013 No Electrical cord or Starter Kit.product came without an electrical cord and no Starter Kit.The box was badly damaged and the packing materials jammed in. |
