Pasta without the mess.
May 7, 2017
We have a 900 watt microwave bought today. Tried it for the first time for 6:00 min. No water was hot. Then retried for 5:00 min. water was hotter but the spaghetti was almost there. The last trial was for 10:00 min. now the water was boiling hot. We took it out and we love the straining feature on the unit. No more reaching for a separate strainer or a heavy or big pot. It came out great and tasty not gummy. I believe it was due to power adjustment level but it worked.
I love it.

I have to admit that when I ordered this I wasn't really expecting this to work all that well. After using it a few times I have to say that I am in love with this product and this is how I now cook my pasta. It works far better than I would have ever imagined it working. I am so happy that I decided to give it a try.
Perfect
September 19, 2016
For our uses (we live in an apartment) this thing is perfect. Especially since we have a small stove and can barely make more than two things at once, this thing saves space AND time. Any doubts that I had about this exceptional little gadget have been spirited away as it works wonders. It makes perfect pasta (any) and i'm sure it works with many other kinds of noodles as well. Would definitely recommend to those who are looking for a way to conveniently cook their pasta without the hassle of designating it it's own pan and a portion of your attention. Just put it in the microwave and once it's done, just strain and it's done!
I really this this item is a great invention
May 15, 2014
I was skeptical - but after figuring out how not to drop the whole contents out when straining and how not to burn your fingers -this is an awesome product. This is the second one I have purchased - for two different kitchens (it does not wear out!)Just a bit worried about the safety of the plastic - PCB's -in the microwave because there isn't anything written about it on the box.So hoping that we are safe with a once a week cooked pasta. I wish the manufacturer would set my mind at ease - when I called customer service a few years back - no one could answer the question - or maybe understand the question - so that wasn't a great experience. And they still haven't updated their package with safety information.Really effortless but you have to follow the timing and water amounts in the booklet so don't lose it. I would suggest one stir in the middle of cooking - and taste before you drain - you can put back in for a minute or so if your microwave isn't that strong.Make certain you slide on the perforated side of the top first and hold the cover tight on both sides of the hinge so neither side opens up. And be careful of the water - keep your hands away from the holes!otherwise it is brainless and effortless - and isn't heavy or dangerous like a pot of boiling water -This item does not reduce cooking time, - it is just easier and safer and it is a great gift for a student or a new cook.Note - I still haven't mastered egg noodles though!
The Best
January 8, 2014
I have been using the Fasta Pasta maker for a few years at my second home and this one at my first home. The Pasta Boat is superior for my purposes.I primarily make half and whole boxes of Barilla Plus Angel Hair pasta. The Fasta Pasta maker is OK for half a box, but, I cannot get enough water in it to cook a whole box so the result is pasta all stuck together in a chewy clump on one or both ends. The Pasta Boat, on the other hand, works very well for both a half box and a full box of the pasta. It also works very well for elbow macaroni.I have not tried other pasta shapes such as lasagna or egg noodles, etc, So I cannot speak to those other shapes. But, given my experience with both models, I will choose the Pasta Boat every time.
Best Kitchen Gadget/Microwave Cooker You'll Own!
March 14, 2011
Before I buy anything priced much over $1 (!), I read as many Amazon reviews on it as I can. Because of a few negative reviews for factors that seemed important to me, I almost didn't order it. What a mistake that would have been! I really, really like this item. Although I've only used it to cook pasta thus far, you can steam all sorts of vegetables in it according to the brief cookbook that comes with it, using the included steamer rack. I hate vegetables, so I've never tried it. So my comments apply only to pasta. And after all, this is a pasta boat, and not a vegetable boat. The pasta comes out perfectly; I'd thought this was an item that would take some experimenting to get it right. After all, who ever heard of cooking pasta in a microwave? Following the excellent instructions in the cookbook, it worked well the very first time I tried it. And I'm as lousy and lazy a cook as they come. And I hate cooking in the first place. Which is why I love the pasta boat so much. Why? 1. It's simple to use. 2. The pasta cooks quickly, and it makes excellent pasta. 3. As the hype says, it eliminates that heavy, bulky pot that you'd normally be using. 4. It eliminates use of a colander to drain your pasta. 5. With leftovers, just stick the whole business in your frige to store your leftovers for another time. 6. And for me, the biggie: it's a cinch to clean. I hate washing stuff. I still have dirty dishes and drip pans from Thanksgiving. Maybe someone out there would like to come over and we could have a dish-washing party.Let me address some of the complaints I recall from some of the other reviews. Some said the lifting handles got hot in the microwave. Mine get warm, but that's the worst it's been. Someone said something about the pasta clumping. Mine never has, and I've never stopped to even stir the stuff during cooking. And that really surprised me--why it doesn't clump. But it doesn't.Improvements? The lifting handles double as clever measures for measuring out spaghetti. Each one measures for two portions. For a single guy like me, I'd like to have seen one that measures for two, and the one on the other side made of a smaller inside diameter to measure for one. I use a quarter though, and its diameter is just about right for me. And if I don't have a quarter, I use two dimes and a nickle...OK, just kidding. This item is ideal for any single guy like me who 1. hates to cook, 2. loves pasta, 3. is lazy, 4. and hates to clean stuff. But married people, and those with families would enjoy it too. If you tell your friends about it as I have, you'll get interesting reactions--no one can conceive how you can cook pasta in a microwave. But you can. It works. And it works very well.

Too Funny
May 7, 2017
This is so cute. I bought it as a gift for a laugh but she tells me she uses it every time she cooks spaghetti.
which is a great serving for two
December 27, 2016
Very cute--somewhat difficult, perhaps even pointless to actually use--although it does really do well to help people with portion control. The T-Rex is about three-quarters of a box of pasta, which is a great serving for two. Otherwise, the individual sizes are probably accurate--though the "man" size might be a little much. Just speculation for the typical diet. Great for kids and teenagers to learn portion control--even some adults! I got it as a gift to someone who likes dinosaurs. It gets used, despite the inconvenience.

can't live without mine
December 15, 2014
I really do love this product,it is very convenient and the pasta does come out good, only sometimes it is a bit mushy even after following the directions. It is a good all around product though, good for steaming veggies, and is well rounded. I would most definitely buy this again if something happened to mine. The convenience of it along with some of the good things that can be made pretty quickly, pretty much beats the hassle of cooking up a big meal on top of the stove,or in the oven sometimes. Highly recommend
Good, but has it's problems.
May 7, 2014
I haven't had pasta in about a year, and I really wanted some before I deploy this summer so I bought this. I live in a dorm so I don't have a kitchen or anything, just a microwave. This seemed like the most logical way to make my own pasta. I'm no amateur at making pasta, so I nkew what I was doing and te instructions didn't really bother me one way or another. All seemed to be well in the microwave, but after a while I noticed the water was coming out of the drainer end of the boat. By the time I took it out, my microwave was a puddle. I cleaned it up and got ready to eat as I heated up some sauce. The pasta was just right, it wasn't too hard or too soft. I mixed the sauce and began to eat, and it did taste like pasta but something was just off. Maybe it's just been to long for me. The boat did its job, and did it well though. For $10 you can't really beat this. It's worth buying, but be prepared to clean your microwave every time, and also be very careful opening the lids and touching around the top, you WILL get steam burned
Hard to read/see water level markings
March 12, 2014
I am by and large satisfied with the Pasta Boat save for one noteworthy problem with the product: the markings on the side to indicate the proper water levels for cooking are virtually invisible and make filling the device extremely frustrating. Too bad, because the pasta boat is a very good idea made harder to use through a minor design flaw. However, where there's a will there's a way. Before every use, I trace over the external water level markings for the amount and type of pasta I shall be cooking with a water-soluble black ink marker so that they can be seen as I fill the boat. I suppose I could make this correction permanent by using an acrylic paint or even a dark fingernail polish but feel a bit queasy about cooking paint along with my food in the microwave.Other than this trifling inconvenience, however, consider me a satisfied customer.
Inexpensive, and worth far more for this pasta lover!
December 29, 2013
I really didn't expect much from an item sold for $6.95, but curiosity got the best of me, so I bought the Pasta Boat. What a steal! After getting the new Panasonic Genius microwave as a gift a week before Christmas, I decided to try a few microwave "toys," starting with the Pasta Boat. My new microwave is 1200 watts, so I shortened the recommended 20-minute cook time to 19. The pasta came out perfectly, and the one-stop, one-pot (boat) makes it a cinch to make pasta dishes, including mac and cheese and macaroni salad.I would, however, caution users to use an oven mitt, and put a thumb on the cover when draining so the cover stays in place, and the steam doesn't burn you. I didn't, and the steam got pretty hot -- nearly burning me, which is why I gave a five-star product four stars. Bearing my caution in mind, I highly recommend this product based on my experience.NOTE ADDED Jan. 27: I read reviews complaining of boil overs making a mess. It happened to me only once, not because of a flaw with the Pasta Boat, but because I failed to remember the directions, and I put the drain cover on when cooking the pasta. This caused the water to boil over and make a mess. Now I always remember to cook the pasta without the cover. I have since made many pasta dishes, and the boat has worked effortlessly every time.
It is what i expected...
March 7, 2011
While it's true that it is not a quick method of making pasta, I was looking for something that i could just leave to cook on its own and didn't need to continue to stir. This is just that. I like my pasta on the al-dente side, and I have not had any issues with under or over cooked pasta when using the instructions. I do find it a small nuisance to have to look up directions for cooking all different types and quantitities of pasta, but hopefully will get used to the instructions for what i make the most! Overall, it works for what I needed. I could put it in, give my kids a bath, and it's ready when the bath is done! Can't say that about pasta cooked on the stove...
Does the Job
November 28, 2010
This product does what it says it will do. Don't expect to have your meal in 5 minutes, however. Depending on what you're making, the average wait time is 15 to 20 minutes. Personally, I don't mind the wait because the perks are great. Just follow the cooking guide's instructions, pop it in the microwave and walk away. Come back when it's done, take it out (WARNING: Expect it to be hot to the touch. Use oven mits or something of that nature), drain it, and prepare. Very simple! So far I've cooked spaghetti and baked potatoes in the Pasta Boat and they came out perfectly. In my opinion this was well worth the price.

Cute tool
August 7, 2016
Very cute, the recipient loves it. Their only complaint is it's a little difficult to get the spaghetti into the leg slots at the bottom. It was bought for novelty value, so that doesn't present a huge problem for them. It's a unitasker, but it doesn't really take up any space in the drawer and it does its job.

August 24, 2015
The idea of this item is great. It is easier than boiling pasta over the stove top and not having to deal with all the heat and steam on a warm day. I bought this thinking it would be less of a hassle with cleaning pots, etc. It is to a degree. I end up having to clean the microwave instead since the water boils over the top eventually and spills all over the microwave. I follow directions to a T and even that way the water ends up boiling over the holes and spilling all over. I have to place a few paper towels underneath it while it cooks to absorb the water, but still end up taking 5 extra minutes later to clean and wipe dry the microwave in the end.

July 11, 2015
it's just okay. I purchased it for our 8,000 mile bucket list trailer road trip. lid tends to fall off when draining... fell off while trying to drain and I got a bit (tiny) steam burn. I use a strainer now ... it does cook fast but some noodles (thicker type) times are not listed on the instruction sheet. I over cooked.
Convenient
January 27, 2013
The microwave Pasta Boat works as indicated and avoids using other pots for your pasta. We did stop using it since our microwave got very hot when using this and burnt out. We purchased another microwave and the new microwave got very hot also. We do have the microwave in a cabinet (seems like it does have good ventilation) and heat other items up in it and it does not get this hot. Only with the Pasta Boat does the microwave get this hot. We purchased one for my daughter and she says it works fine. Only thing I can say is to try it and perhaps you won't have any issues if your microwave is completely open on all sides.Aside from our problems it did work very well and cooked the pasta perfectly according to the heating schedule in the manual.Good luck!
Mixed feelings about this product
September 29, 2012
It works as advertised for pasta, but I didn't see where it was much of a time or clean-up saver. It takes as long to cook in the microwave as it does to boil it in a pan on the stove top. Also, I didn't feel comfortable microwaving in plastic. It didn't leave a plastic taste in the food, but the possibility of unwanted substances leaching from the plastic bothered me.The one advantage was not having to watch and wait for the water to come to a boil, but all things considered I will probably not use it again.

If you like a challange........
November 13, 2016
Kind of tricky using it, there is a learning curve. What it lacks in ease of use it makes up for in fun. Turns out my husband can always eat a T-Rex.
Hard to use
October 9, 2016
I have literally never successfully used it. The concept is hilarious, but I can't get the pasta in it properly and I am generally not that patient.
Not practical
January 28, 2016
It's cute, but wasn't the smartest choice as a pasta measure. Spend extra time fitting the uncooked pasta into the random parts such as the legs or tails.

I left an earlier review, questioning the fact that there was no instruction book. Upon further inspection, the product box it came in referenced a recipe book. Someone had placed white labels over the reference to "Includes Recipe Book". I need a recipe book to get the full benefit of this purchase.
If you do have said stove and pot your honestly better of going the old fashion way
September 1, 2016
Takes 20 or so minutes to cook the pasta. I don't know why I was expecting something faster in hindsight but it's defiantly geared towards those with no access to a stove or pots. If you do have said stove and pot your honestly better of going the old fashion way. Just my .02 YMMV

have not been able to use. when arrived box was really damaged. there were not instructions included although the box said it can with cookbook. then it is too long to fit in the microwave, so unless I buy a bigger microwave, I can not use.
Meh!
August 9, 2015
Received on time but produduct was obviously a return item, resold. The shipping box was intact but the product box was torn and there was no instructional material included although the box referenced such materials. Before using I had to research the Internet to find some on-line instructions. Cooks ok but really does not save much time as the microwave time is quite long for cooking pasta. I threw away the stupid handles and just use it for steaming. Works ok for that purpose.
Disappointed
June 29, 2014
I was excited to try this product because of the easy clean up involved. I meticulously followed the cooking directions for elbow macaroni. But I found the end product to be overlooked and the pasta stuck together. May give it another try before I give up on this product, but I would not recommend it.

Cute and impractical
May 5, 2017
Unusable. But hilarious too, so...

Nearly impossible to slide pasta into the little slot at the top or the little arms & legs. I tried to use it once, found more annoying to use it than to just guess & cook too much pasta.

I wanted to give this a five because it's such a fun product. The hole for the t-rex is too close to edge and ours broke almost immediately the first time we washed it. Fun concept, I really wanted this to work because the idea is so creative. The poor execution made me give it a 1. This will snap in two - do not purchase!
Good to look at
February 28, 2017
Good to look at, horrible to use. Noodles have to fit in tiny slots for arms and legs, and/or slide in through a tiny slot at the top. A good novelty gift, but don't expect to use it. The unicorn one is likely just as bad. Stick with the classic round hole measurers.
