Five Star Reviews:

Very satisfied with two bought last year, adding one more this year
August 10, 2015
Bought two last year, and have been very happy with their performance. They are great for small problem areas in our house during the summer (under sink, in children's bathroom...). Bought this one for the laundry room. They remove just enough moisture to keep the air dry and keep mildews from growing in the small spaces where we use them. I was pleased enough with my purchases last year to buy this one. A little tricky to remove the water tray the first few times, but once you get the hang of it, it is simple. Water pours through drain with small plug, which takes a little longer than if the plug were not there, but since I use the water on my houseplants, this doesn't bother me. Very satisfied with purchase.
Would give 10 stars if I could!!!!
July 30, 2015
First let me say that I almost didn't order this because the positive reviews just sounded incredulous. There is no way this tiny little thing could take the humidity out of somebody's room overseas that had damp bedsheets, etc. and that was just ONE of the positive reviews I read among many. However, I have a utility room floor that is on a slab. The brick tile sweats in high humidity and it is so slimy that it will actually mold if I don't get down on my hands and knees and wipe it everyday when I get home from work in summer. Enter the Gurin DHMD-210 Compact Dehumidifier. When I first opened the box, I almost sent it back it was so ridiculously small. Instead I reread the reviews and decided to put it in my utility room expecting nothing. Boy, was I wrong!!! This tiny little thing did the trick. No more slimy floor. It is bone dry in there. I waited to write this review because I wanted to see if it could handle several high humidity 90 degree plus days in a row and it did. Plus I left the door wide open to the utility room. There is no need to keep the door closed in the room you are trying to dehumidify which I was worried about as my cat litter box is also in that room. So as happy as what I was over the performance of the Gurin I also discovered, when I got home the other night, and we had had blistering hot temps and my house had been closed up all day, that the humidity level was actually lower in the entire house which is not small. As crazy as this sounds this tiny thing really does make a huge difference and the funny thing is that when I go to empty it there might be an inch of water in the bottom after a couple of days and I do leave it running all the time when the humidity is high. This thing is awesome!!!!
Works great in small, damp, enclosed spaces in a rainforest
March 26, 2015
Update at 2 & 1/2 years: The power supply cord quit working on one of our units (we bought 5 total). We contacted Gurin via their website support interface and they sent us a replacement power supply within 2 days. Their customer service is fantastic and so is the product.Update after 2 years: This unit ran almost constantly and worked great for two years. Then the fan it started making a grinding noise which sounded suspiciously like when a fan goes out on a desktop computer. My talented husband took the unit apart and found that, yes, the fan inside was just like those on a desktop computer and he ordered a replacement fan for about $6 on Amazon. He installed the new fan and the little Gurin is back hard at work keeping our laundry room dry and fungi-free. We live in a very humid, rainy, coastal rain forest near a large river and it is crazy damp here and the perfect moderate temps for mold. I have to keep bread in the fridge or it molds within 3 or 4 days, if that gives you any idea. The Gurin sure is a workhorse even in this environment. So glad it was an easy fix!- - -I had to add another star after using this in my laundry room for about a year. This little dehumidifier takes out enough water to keep my uninsulated, unheated, unvented laundry room mold-free. There's a window, but it is too humid and chilly to leave it open most of the time. I empty the collection tank on the Gurin every couple of days.I realized just how well the Gurin worked after removing it when we did some remodeling, switching out toilet and sink, and then forgetting to return it to its place. Within a couple of months I had mold and mildew growing in there and I finally remembered to get the Gurin and plug it back in. It has kept it mold and mildew free since then.
Best Small Dehumidifier On The Market!
March 5, 2015
I purchased this product on April 3rd, 2014 and haven’t unplugged it since. This thing has been a lifesaver, literary. I live in a very wet part of the country. My apartment bathroom has horrible ventilation where mold can grow in hours if it goes unchecked. I have been trying to battle the mold issue with a variety of moisture reducing products, none of which truly handled the issue.I decided to try this dehumidifier out due to its compact size and (honestly) cheap price. I honestly did not expect too much at first and planned to use it together with other moisture reducing products.I plugged it in… and never had to look back. This tiny beast of a machine can suck all of the moisture out of my bathroom in minutes. I keep this thing on 24/7, and the bathroom remains mold and moisture free, even after a 3 hour hot tub soak that happened to splash water all over the floor.I empty the plastic container (piece of cake to empty, there’s a black plug on the top that you have to pull out) when it’s half-way full, about every three days or so.DO NOTE that the dehumidifier WILL NOT function effectively if the water tray is not emptied. This thing is a little beast and is probably better than some of the much more expensive products on the market.
Decreased humidity level/dampness
December 25, 2014
This is exactly what I needed for a downstairs powder bathroom in my townhouse in Dallas, TX. The room is small and does not get enough air circulating. The toilet bowl would mold every 4-5 days after cleaning it due to humidity level. Every since I placed the Gurin in the bathroom, the toilet bowl has yet to mold. Used to get a red ring in bowl every 3-4 days after cleaning. Not now, Gurin intakes the water and keeps bathroom humidity at a much lower level. Easy to use and easy to quickly empty water. Very quiet unit and does exactly what it needs to do.b great price too.
was going to be 5 stars(changed to 5)
April 25, 2013
I ordered this along with a Gurin mini & a DeLongihi regular dehumidifier/s. These are all for our vacation home in Florida. Dampness & mold is a big problem. It's small and my original plan was to put it in the closet, but have it instead in my home office for now.I plugged it in at 3:30 & came to look at it at 4:30. The 16oz tank had collected approx 1 tbsp of water. By next morning around 10a.m. it was up to 1/2 a cup. And today at 10:30 its 1 cup. I just measured it. The box says it collects approx 8oz of water per day @ 86F. It is end of April. The room temp probably gets up to 82F in the afternoons, but I think it will stay at collecting 1/2 a cup per day. When I started this review, I had given it a 5 star. Reason for changing it to 4 stars is this.I pulled the detachable water tray out to measure the quantity of water. Rightfully so, the tray has a cover with a hole in the middle where the water pours into. BUT!!!! No where does it say in the manual or labeled on the tray as to how to open to pour the water out from the tray. I thought the reason being, because it is quite obvious the full top cover had to be removed from the tray. Well, I tried that and it wouldn't budge. I broke a nail trying to pry it open. I heard a "tick' sound and didn't proceed any further, afraid I might break it. The top feels as if it should not be opened. I Finally just poured/shook the water out thru the small hole on the top.My home office space is 250sq feet w/high ceiling (approx 14 ft) & carpeted. The unit is very quite. Its like a small fan running. Its not an eyesore either. I do like it, and will order a couple of more to put into my closets. But If anyone knows ( I will write to the company as well) please let me know, how to pour the water out. I still think the top has to be pried open, but I'm not taking any chances.Updated to 5 stars. received an email ( wow. in a matter of a few hrs) from what looks like a customer service, telling me how to remove the water. Its the black washer on top of tank that needs to be pulled.

Great for a small bathroom without a fan
June 7, 2017
I have purchased 2 of these so far and have used them in a small bathroom without a vent. Works very well and isn't noisy (there is a hum). You can tell it's working by the amount of water that is collected in the reservoir.

I would let it run though after your done with the bathroom, maybe turn it off later when you have to go to the bathroom again.

This is probably one of the best alternatives to a ceiling fan or opening the window.
surprised this tiny machine actually works - good for small room only
February 9, 2017
Wow, this TINY little machine really does pull water out of the air. I didn't want a big, noisy dehumidifier - it's for the bedroom in my apartment that's growing mold along the exterior walls. I decided this would work faster than the silica gel packets that I'm also using.

I've been using the Eva-dry for over two months. So far, so good. It's really very quiet. It will take about 6 days to fill the water reservoir but the room smells less musty than before. I also cleared some clutter out of my clothes closet and left the closet doors open to allow the air to circulate. So far, no new mold.
We have had them for a few months and they work great. I got tired of emptying the water tray
September 22, 2016
We have two closets in our bathroom that tend to build up moisture. We have been using DampRid for years, then found these little guys. We have had them for a few months and they work great. I got tired of emptying the water tray, so I headed over to Home Depot and got a 3/8" ID and 1/2" OD plastic elbow. Using a spade bit, I drilled a hole in the side of the tray, and used some silicone to make it water tight. I got 10' of clear plastic hose and hooked it up to a milk container that I drilled a hole in the cap. Works great and I only have to empty the water every couple of months. Eva-dry might want to consider adding these kinds of trays as an option to what is now available.
For a small room or camper, this is perfect
June 7, 2016
This little dehumidifier really works! I tested it in the house and was amazed by the amount of moisture it pulled out of the air. It is quite. Just a soft fan sound. I purchased it to use in my camper. One thing they omitted from the instructions: there is a black rubber stopper in the top rear corner of the water tank. Turn unit OFF. You pull the water tank straight out the front of the unit (use other hand to hold unit still). On top of tank pull the black stopper up enough to free it, it has a "T" to retain it. Pour water out. Replace/Reseat stopper. Slide tank straight into front of unit and turn ON.
So far, so good - 4 year update
November 13, 2012
This little unit is extremely quiet, and has now been in my bathroom for 3 hours. After that short amount of time, there's 1/3 of a cup of water in the tank. Yes, I have a disgustingly wet apartment.

The only thing I can see that might be a negative is that the cord is a bit on the short side. This doesn't affect me, as there aren't any outlets in my ridiculously ghetto bathroom anyway, but if you live in a NORMAL place, you would not be able to set this on the floor if your bathroom has counter-level outlets.
I'll update this review after we've been running it for a little while.

***24 hour update***
The container is now about half full after just over 24 hours. Our bathmat is dry for the first time since August, and after the morning round of showers, the walls and ceiling were dry after about 45 minutes, as opposed to the usual 3 hours. Our bath towels, wash cloths, and toothbrushes are all dry as well. They usually never dry, which is really unpleasant. Needless to say, this little unit would be getting more than 5 stars from me right now if it were possible. Hopefully it will last quite a while. If it continues to work this well, we'll buy 2 more for the other really damp areas in the apartment.

*** 9 months later and still going strong. Still quiet, still sucks the moisture out of the air like mad. We have run it 24 hours a day, 7 days a week since we got it. I did think it had died last week, because after we emptied it, it started to make an atrocious noise, but I unplugged it, flipped it over, and cleaned out the fan with some q-tips, and now it's good as new. If yours has started to make death rattles, clean it out!

**** It's now March of 2017. It's still working just as well as it did new. We do have to clean the dust and lint out of it about every 6 months with a combination of q-tips and compressed air. Not a lot of maintenance for an item that has been running 4+ years now.

After fully submerged, still works!
October 16, 2017
This has been great for monitoring my reptile enclosure/vivarium (IJ Blue Tongue Skink). My lizard knocked it into her water dish and it sat fully submerged for at least several hours. When I saw and pulled it out, the screen was blank and water was pouring out of all the holes. I took out the battery and let it dry out for 5 days. Popped the battery in, and it works! I now have it wedged so she can't move it around. (I used another gauge and a temp thermal gun to verify it's still giving accurate readings.) It's also helpful to know the highs and lows for the past 24 hours, since sometimes it can really vary. This has helped me maintain a more consistent level of humidity. Would recommend for anyone needing to monitor tropical/humid reptiles or amphibians.
works great - very accurate and rugged too
March 8, 2017
works great - very accurate and rugged tooI keep one in a grow tent and another clipped to the side of some er home grown herb bucket so I know how the plant is as well as the tent as a whole. dropped on the floor, dropped in mud and they still work great.I think I've just been lucky with my misuse but my special orchids bloom like crazy because these guys let me know exactly how my micro environment is doing.too big to use in 1qt canning jars tho.
Accurate, easily read, great price
January 22, 2017
I have tested this device against my other gauges and it has proven accurate, it is easily read, the memory of highs and lows are helpful when you're monitoring a room that may have issues or maintaining a walk in humidor or a room you want particularly dry like a server room.Another bonus is that the device comes with a clip that also has a magnet adhered to the back. I have mine stuck to a filing cabinet in a room I need to stay consistently dry.The price was great, have I any further need for a room hygrometer I will certainly be buying this one.
Bought 4 all the same see photo
January 8, 2016
Good product bought 4 all were the same, for $10 great deal, a very good humidistat would cost $100. I compared all 4 together after 2 hours they were all the same, even though two are off by one it is more like .2 after the photo I started to move one when I came back they were all reading the same.
Cost Effective, Good for monitoring house temperature fluctuations for pets at home.
July 27, 2014
We purchased this AcuRite monitor to see how much of a temperate difference we see in our master bedroom (which has poor insulation) and the rest of the house. During the first week I hung this unit next to our house thermometer and found it to be constantly one degree lower than our house reading. I have not way of knowing which one is more accurate, although I did notice that they moved in sync with daily fluctuations. It was very nice seeing what the daily fluctuations were, especially as we have to dogs and could not monitor what the house temperature fluctuations were while we were gone to work.Subsequently, we moved the monitor to our master bedroom. Curing the colder spring months we found out master bedroom about 2-3 degrees cooler than the rest of the house. It was reassuring to know that the difference was not greater. During summer months, we have noticed a 3-4 degree increase in temperature in the same room (compared to the listed temperature on our house thermometer. Again, during summer, the temperature move in sync. We do not use the AC much, so were see enough temperature variations to make this comment worthwhile.
Calibration Tests
April 6, 2012
I purchased two of these as I wanted something digital and I liked that it recorded the highs and lows for each: humidity and temperature. Right out of the package they both read identical humidity and temperature which was great. I then brought them to my work and put them in a stabilty chamber to test against a calibrated expensive humidty guage at 63.3% RH and 25.x C. Both units measured within a single percent of RH and ready 25 C. I then calibrated the units in a nitrogen filled instrument with a calibrated unit. The calibrated unit read 0.0 % RH while both units read 16. I figured out that these units DO NOT work below 20 % RH and instead display 16 %. I then tested them in open rooms compared to a calibrated unit at 20-30% RH and these babies read within a single unit of % RH and about 0.5 degrees C. I have no way of calibrating them higher and not sure how high they will read accurately but I'm curious to see what they'll read outside in the rain. Otherwise they are great units for the price.

Mine works great.
July 7, 2017
I always research and read the reviews before buying. And try to weed through the fake reviews! This dehumidifier had overall good feedback. Seems some people just get a bad one. I bought mine to use in my 32 foot Rockwood RV. The humidity in the bedroom at night was too much for me. I plugged it in and it reduced the humidity from 57% down to 42% in just over two hours. On the third day the tank was half full of water. If you are not trying to use these in too large of a space they seem to me to do the job. I can feel the difference. It is very hot and humid where I am at the moment. Will have to just wait and see how long it keeps working correctly. I will update review if it fails.
Great little product!
February 19, 2017
These little dehumidifiers are awesome! I live in a small log cabin in the mountains of north Georgia. Very high humidity here and I have one in each room of my little cabin. They pull a lot of water out of the air! At times, the bucket is full in every room every week! I have had to replace three of the original ones I bought (one after one year, two after three years) because the adapter goes bad (even though the unit still works) and a replacement adapter is unavailable anywhere. I also wish the top would come off of the collection bucket so that I could wash the interior out. Because they are closed up, they do get some mold inside the collection bucket. Otherwise, this item is awesome.
Works pretty well and does a good job
October 11, 2016
Works pretty well and does a good job. I use two in my bathrooms (small to medium sized) and keep them going almost 24/7 most days. It's been a few months and they're still doing well. There are 2 drawbacks:- the capacity of the tank is so small that if I keep it running continuously, even in dry weather, I have to empty them out every 2 to 3 days. (You'd have to empty them out more frequently in a humid place)- the tank empties via a small hole that you plug and unplug, which is inefficient. It would be great if the cover of the tank could be easily removed like in so many other models.FYI, it helps to put some bleach in the tank each time you empty it to avoid bacterial growth.
Small but effective
May 7, 2016
This is a small device and very easy to use. Mostly one just turns it on and off. For its size it has a rather large water holding cup, and it really does take water out of the air. I live in a hot and humid climate, and have this on my home office desk. After an hour or so after first turning it on, I saw that there was water already in the cup, so this thing does work. I'm surprised at just how much water it does remove from the air. Just pop out the cup to pour out the water and pop it in again and turn it on.
Works Great
March 5, 2016
We live in an old house, no fan in bathroom, with lots of mildew issues so we needed something small that worked. Amazing how much water it accumulated-- we've emptied many drawer-fulls of water and so far no mildew has returned. Takes up only a small amount of space, only a quiet hum and easy to empty when the time comes.
I love this thing!
February 4, 2016
OMG! I love this thing! It's easy to work, you can easily visibly see its doing what its suppose to do. It arrives fully assembled. You just plug it in. A light comes on to show its working, its very quiet, and all instructions are easy to read and parts are nicely illustrated. When the reservoir becomes full, it shuts off on its own. Easy to empty. No fuss item. I tried 3 others from Amazon because of their great ratings and ease of use. They never worked, so I returned them. I needed one in my clothes closet, so I decided to try this brand/one. I'm so glad I did! Its small and wonderful! I love this thing!

Good product, great customer service!
May 21, 2017
This is a compact and efficient dehumidifier. We have used these in some of our closets and they make a big difference. We have had some issues with the plugs; some of them have quit working after a few months. However, the customer service at Gurin has been wonderful. We have notified them and they have promptly replaced the plugs and the units continue to work. How can you tell it is the plug and not the unit itself? If you turn the unit on and the light blinks, but the dehumidifier does not come on, it is the plug. Again, great customer service!
This was a good product. I have had it in my boat ...
January 18, 2017
This was a good product. I have had it in my boat cabin for 22 months running almost continuously for most of that time. It died on me today, but that's a good life-span for a $40.00 dehumidifier. Here are my findings: 1. If your expecting it to pull out 7oz. of water a day not going to happen, it's closer to 5oz.. It fills up in about 3.5 days. 2. I have 2 units in the cabin and have to empty them every 6-7 days. 3. They do not work well if the temperature falls below 45 degrees. 4. They are extremely quiet. 5. No maintenance required, just dust off the air intakes every few months and they keep on running. Not bad for the price!!!
Works well but power source is not the best
January 20, 2016
I can't compare this unit to other dehumidifiers, but I have used damp-rid in my bath/laundry rooms for several years and this machine is far superior. It is small and quiet, but collects about 8 oz of liquid in my bathroom per week. The only downside is the power adapter, which has begun to separate at the join, and I will need to apply electrical tape to make sure it doesn't break open eventually. This is odd because I have only unplugged it from the wall a few times and therefore have barely handled the power source. I wish that part of it were better constructed, but the unit itself is good.
Good for size & non compressor unit
July 13, 2015
I like it & am glad to have it but have a few gripes. The (power) plug gets & stays extremely hot. I really do not like that & don't see why a unit running on so little power has such a hot plug at all x's while unit running. I had in a more open space originally bcuz I live w/ ppl who don't understand when it's humid outdoors not to let it in via open windows & that it only creates a disgusting swampy environment that is far from healthy, but moved it to my tiny room where I spend little time due to lack of space & it's hot in there. I thought being in an appropriate sized rm for unit that it'd pull more moisture from the air than it does. Don't get me wrong, it does pull moisture from air, but i had hoped it'd b closer to the advertised 8oz per day than it does. 16oz tank still isn't full after a wk or more of at least 80 degree temp & 70% avg. humidity lately. Some x's higher. I know it says 8oz per day in high 80's temp & same in humidity percentage, but it's not far from that & I'm barely at 10oz of 16oz tank. It's been at least 7 days, i think more like 9 days. Perhaps my unit is not functioning properly, hot plug included. I am glad it sucked up 10oz but i should b closer to 72oz, at least 60oz for my temp & humidity percentage. Perhaps I will contact company & see. For price & low power consumption, its still a nice thing to have & it was rated well on sites that reviewed these types of units. Maybe mine is a dud or partial dud.
9-2016 UPDATED REVIEW - SMALL BUT WORKS WELL
October 28, 2014
UPDATE 9-2016 The unit has a 9V 3Amp power supply which went bad resulting in the green light flashing which this code is not indicated anywhere in the manual. You can purchase an off brand replacement power supply online. In fairness I left this unit on 24/7. It's a LOT cheaper to replace the power supply and I will update if this works.UPDATE: I wanted to upload some pictures, but the option isn't there, so until I can provide a link, please read on. I put my sneaker next to the unit to show the size, but before you write it off as a dollar store item for not a dollar store price, It's well built and actually works. (and yes ladies, adorable) Within a half hour of plugging the Gurin Compact Dehumidifier in my 11 x 14 bedroom with the door open, it was collecting water. It collects about a cup in two days.If you look at the pic of the damp rid bucket I was using before it shows how much water was collected from my closet area YUK! P.S. the damp rids with the pink lid (sold here) don't have that funky smell, employ charcoal and work pretty well for about $7 a pcThe Gurin DHMD-210 has helped keep my apartment dry and I even tried it out on my 8x5 bathroom after a shower. Takes a couple hours but it does the trick. This is a great thing to keep on your bathroom shelf.A few notes :SIZE - Yes, it's tinier than I expected. (8.5" H x 6" W )Had I known, I would have gone the extra $40- and bought the larger unit, but I was skeptical of spending the money until I saw that it was worth it based on mixed reviews. Ill probably keep this for the closet and get the larger one in the Summer when the heat is no longer helping keep the place dry.WALL WART - yes it gets warm, not incredibly so and I've left it on while out all day and overnight. I would reccomend as with anything that heats up, avoiding plugging it in behind curtains or anything where the heat could collect, however, mine is plugged in behind a pc of furnituire above a baseboard and it's just fine.HEAT - NOISE - TANKThere is no heat from the unit as with a traditional dehumidifer. (You can read about peltier technology online) It's about as quiet as an ultrasonic humidifier and no breezeis apparent unless you put your hand right over the top vents. The tank as you can see from the picture slides in and out completely like a drawer and has a small black stopper on the top left. If you've had a watergun as a kid you've seen this stopper. Frankly I'm not sure why ppl had a problem with emptying this.My original review is below and as I greatly appreciate product updates, I thought I'd share mine. ~ Cheers, SummerAfter reading all the positive reviews even for a space larger than a bathroom, I decided to purchase the Gurin DHMD-210 compact Dehumidifier. It just arrived with Amazon's usual fast shipping and good packaging.First impression is that its a LOT smaller than I expected. About the size of a large box of Kleenex upended. It's super silent. All you have to do to get started is unpack, plug it in and flip the little switch to on. There is an instruction booklet included that explains both how to empty and clean the unit. All the pieces (tray, cleaning cover and adapter) fit well and it is a sturdy little thing. It's actually adorable....I live in an apartment that is on a slab (no basement) so its been a bit damp in here which was solved over the Summer with a10K BTU air conditioner in the 15 x 11 bedroom. Now that the a/c season is over I need a good solution without the heat on constantly yet. I will post back in a week to say how well this unit worked in a larger space and I would definitely say this is perfect to put in a closet (if you have an outlet right outside like I do) as its no larger than a shoe box.
Handy little dehumidifier (updated after contacted by seller)
August 9, 2013
UPDATE: The seller contacted me and sent me a replacement unit, which works perfectly. Original review is at the bottom. This dehumidifier is compact and quiet enough (it's not completely silent, but the sound is soft enough to ignore easily). You may find yourself replacing the reservoir pretty often, but it is easy to do. Remove the clear plastic portion on the front, pull up the black rubber plug on the top, and pour it out. Replace the plug and the reservoir should slide right back inside. There is a switch inside which works kind of like the lightswitch in a refrigerator that will turn the unit off and on when you remove and replace the reservoir (if it is working properly, see my original review below). The only downside is that the plug for this thing is surprisingly big for such a little device. You might need to make sure you have enough room on the outlet for it.----When I can get this thing to turn on, it works great. Unfortunately, the switch that triggers when the reservoir is inserted into the dehumidifier is very loose, and nine times out of ten will not align correctly to close the circuit when the reservoir is inserted. It usually takes me multiple attempts to get the switch to be activated correctly, which on a dehumidifer this small means quite a bit of fuss.

Keep in mind these things are like space heaters or a/c units
September 12, 2016
keeps the bathroom dry. I just keep it on 24/7, doesn't rack up the electric bill from what I can tell. When in use my tub is dry after work, if not in use there are still water droplets after work.

Keep in mind these things are like space heaters or a/c units, its just not going to do anything if you keep windows and doors open and allow airflow to pump in humid air. With its size, it does well in a small bathroom with the door cracked open over the course of a day, its not going to do jack keeping your entire house dry or even a well ventilated room like a living room or basement.
Despite it's size it actually pumps pretty effectively in our bathroom
July 16, 2016
This is much smaller than I thought, about the size of a volleyball. I think if I'd known I'd have bought the 2200. Despite it's size it actually pumps pretty effectively in our bathroom, which has little air flow. It can drop the humidity level from 89 down to about 65 in a few hours after a shower. I empty it every couple of days. I would rate it "good for 1 room if you have a minor humidity problem". If your humidity problem is major, get the more powerful one.

Summer in Boston can be humid. I had an Eva-dry rechargeable small hanging dehumidifier for one of my bathrooms, which I love. When mold began to appear on my other bathrooms, I decided to give this petite dehumidifier a try. I received it two days ago and it has been working to suck the moisture out of the said bathroom. It is very quiet, and has gathered almost half a container of water. I will update in a few months to see if it's working effectively against the mold.
The fan is definitely noisier than when it was new and seems to keep getting worse. I'm sure at some point it will fail ...
December 9, 2015
I bought two of these... one for our main bathroom to help dry it out after showers, and one for a truck I keep covered in storage for parts of the year.

The bathroom unit pulls a lot of water. I empty it about once a week at least, although now that winter is here I'm not doing it as often. My one gripe is the same as others, that it's noisy. The fan is definitely noisier than when it was new and seems to keep getting worse. I'm sure at some point it will fail and I'll probably take it apart and put in a new, quieter fan. I've done that on other devices and I know where to get good quality computer fans that won't die or make a lot of noise, so that's helpful.

The one I keep in my truck doesn't need to be emptied as often. I check it every couple weeks and it's about 3/4 full at that point. Probably because I'm not opening and closing the truck doors all the time, once it pulls out excess moisture it's not really getting a whole lot extra in there so it stabilizes. Works for me. I just run an extension cord into the truck and *gently* close the door so the rubber seal at the bottom of the door frame won't crimp the extension cord. Works in my case... might not be a great solution for others. I could plug it into an always-on 12V outlet in there and find a suitable adapter with the right power tip... I keep the truck on a battery charger so in theory it would be fine, but I didn't want to cause the battery to be constantly draining and charging while in storage, so I went with the extension cord method.
Does a good job in a standard-sized bathroom used to store hockey gear
August 15, 2014
My husband's hockey equipment stinks. Really bad. He tries it on a coat rack inside the tub of a spare bathroom. While we have the vent/fan on nearly constantly, we live in VA now and the humidity is a factor, so I bought this to pull some of the moisture out of the air.
This little unit does a good job. The water collects in the pan (the blue/clear part of the unit) and when it collects enough water, that entire part slides straight forward out, then you pull the little plug on top, pour it out, put the plug back in, and turn it on again. This is low-maintenance! There are no extra parts to purchase (no extra filters, etc.). The plug does get a bit warm, but nothing alarming. The fan makes a little noise, but its the steady hum of a fan, nothing too loud in my opinion.
The only thing it doesn't do is pull the stench out, but I put a bit of activated carbon in a pouch in the room and it smells better. The two together make a perfect pair!

Needed something inexpensive to monitor partially finished, below grade basement. Have a dehumidifier set to run automatically in the space but no way to ensure it was operating +/- to setting. After two weeks of acclimation, the two still don't match but they are w/in ~ 5% of each other. That's all I needed to have confidence I wasn't allowing mold, etc. Can't be sure which is more accurate but this gets me in the ballpark. If you need pinpoint accuracy this may not be the unit for you.
Works fine but I recommend the ThermoPro TP50
May 13, 2017
Seems accurate, works and functions fine. I would recommend the ThermoPro TP50 over this unit though because i like its design better, its more compact, cheaper, and comes with a battery. This unit is also unable to reset the ranges whenever you want unlike the ThermoPro TP50 that can do that.
Considering the low price, this is a great little device!
December 17, 2015
Considering the low price, this is a great little device. When I first got it, about 60 days ago, I was extremely disappointed at the inaccuracy of it. Comparing it to other devices, the humidity and the temperature were each in error by close to 10 percent. However, I discovered that it was because I used a NiMH rechargeable battery, which is lower voltage than an alkaline battery (1.5v for alkaline, 1.25 for the NiMH I used). After 42 days, the device shut itself off completely; no "low battery" warning of any kind. When I replaced the battery with an alkaline AA cell, the temperature and humidity readings matched other devices closely. I experimented, trying different NiMH batteries, making sure they were fully charged. In each test, the temperature and humidity readings were off by about 10 percent when using a NiMH rechargeable battery, and the readings were accurate when using an alkaline battery. I would give this device 5 stars if the seller gave some information about the sensitivity to voltage; but they do not (as of December 2015).Another experiment I conducted with this device was to place it in a plastic bag with a small packet of desiccant in the bag. The humidity reading did in fact drop quickly, and matched the readings of tests I conducted with other devices. When I buy herbs, I place them in double-zip bags with desiccant to help preserve freshness and to prevent mold. But I always wondered how much difference the desiccant really made, and how many packets would be required to significantly lower the humidity inside the bag. It turns out that one 10 gram packet inside a 1-quart zip-lock bag lowers the internal humidity to below 10 percent. The desiccant packets can be dried periodically in a low-temperature convection oven, and reused. The AcuRite device is small enough, and easy to read while inside the bag, so is helpful to me for gaining some data to help keep my herbs fresher.
The temperature part works but it is NOT fast, no humidity speed/etc tests yet.
October 10, 2015
UPDATE - This helped me with adjusting the temp of my fridge (I do NOT recommend GE, check consumer reports at the library). Also adding a few full gallon jugs of water to the back of the fridge helped lower the temp swings that happen when you open the door (AcuRite keeps track of the lowest/highest temp for maybe 24 hours). Read up but it's probably not good to put easily spoiled items in the door and maybe the top shelf (depending on temp settings, fridge quality, etc)Original -I'll update later. For now it works fine after surviving some USPS brutality (you'll need an AA battery). When you turn it on it will SLOWLY start lowering the # on the temp display if your house is cool, I just assume it's taking its time to be more accurate. The display temp eventually matched my home's digital A/C temp setting. I learned that my A/C lowers the humidity a little too much. I hear plants can help that a bit, I recommend spider plants and snake plants for better home air quality, not sure about their effect on humidity though.
Very nice little hygrometer
March 21, 2015
Very nice little hygrometer. With any hygrometer you should check the calibration if accuracy is a concern. Many can be off by 3-5% - not critical in some cases, but definitely critical in precision acoustic instrument building as I do.Checking calibration is simple - I follow the directions from http://www.hermitcrabassociation.com/pages/calibrate.html" A simple, easy to do at home means of calibrating hygrometers uses standard salt and a sealed container. Table salt, when used properly, will maintain an exact 75% humidity in a perfectly sealed environment. So, to do this, you'll need three items. First, obtain an airtight container such as a see-through tub with a tight fitting snap-on lid (the kind usually found in most kitchens). Alternately, a heavy-duty zip-lock bag will do. Second, you'll need about a teaspoon of salt. Third, any small, shallow open container is needed (to hold the salt in) such as a screw cap from a plastic bottle.Place the salt in its small container and add a few drops of water to moisten it. Don't dissolve it yet. With just a few drops of water, you'll get what you need, which is damp salt. Next, carefully place the salt in its small container, along with your hygrometer, into the airtight container. Please do not get any moistened salt on the gauge. Also, check to see that the starting point (current reading) is anywhere in the 40% to 80% range.Seal the container tightly. Note: if you have any doubt as to whether or not it is a perfectly sealed environment, double-it-up by putting it in a second container, or into a second baggie. Do not try to remove the remaining air trapped inside. Now, wait for at least 5 or 6 hours until the environment has stabilized. Do not open the container. Read the gauge's humidity % level. It should be exactly 75%. If it is not, note the deviation as being the amount your hygrometer is out of calibration. If for example, it reads 68%, the gauge is 7% low. If on the other hand it reads 80%, the gauge is 5% high"
Works like expected.
June 3, 2014
Cheap, works like expected.Has fridge magnet on the back, belt clip, and desk stand.Reads humidity very clearly, and temperature.Only star off, is no 'reset' button. You'd have to take out the battery for a second, to get the numbers to reset (highs and lows in humidity and temps). It also has a Celcius/Farenheit button in the back, to switch temperature readout. It also has an indicator (little house on the top right) to indicate if humidity is too much or too low.50% humidity is ok.Lower, and some people get a dry throat feeling.Higher than 90 and the air feels, and smells moist. The readout frequency updates about every 15 seconds. When I blew in the vents, it took the device about 1 minute to come to a stop (in rising humidity), so it doesn't work immediately. Can't tell how long the battery will last, and a last con would be that it has no backlight, and no alarm/timer built in (you'd think for a small device like this, they would incorporate a clock, as well as a weather predictor?).

Good with great customer service.
July 3, 2017
For its size, it worked great and was, on average, fairly reliable and lasted longer than expected with constant use. My first one lasted over a year of virtual 24 hour use before it died. Contacted Gurin and they promptly replaced it under warranty. When the 2nd one died, I bought another one which lasted just about as long and that was replaced too under warranty. However, I got a larger Ivation (still countertop sized) recently, and, although just a tad louder, works significantly better than the smaller Gurin in my large master bathroom. My bathroom is about 90 square feet not including the attached walkin closet. The shower does not have an opening to the outside for any water vapor to escape to and I keep the window closed. Daily, the Gurin collected a centimeter or so of water in its reservoir. The Larger Ivation more than twice as much. I put the Gurin in the smaller bathroom recently.

May 18, 2017
I was having issues with silverfish (which like humidity) and warping trading cards (which don't like humidity). I put one of these where I keep my trading cards. It doesn't pull a lot out of the air (I don't have to dump it often), but I haven't noticed any more warping or silverfish since shortly after getting it, sooo... I'm pleased.
I do love this product
March 22, 2017
I do love this product. I purchased three of them for a small apartment in Crestview, FL. My hope was that I could keep the cost of AC down by having a few of these around the house. It definitely helped to keep some of the humidity out of the air. Although after about 6 months, one of the three stopped working. I still believe that this is a very good product for small spaces. We are still running the other two with no problems. We have to change them out about twice a weeks and has helped to keep our bill down.
Compact and Reliable (Typ.)
November 29, 2016
I've been using this product for almost 3 years now. The product typically lasts for one year. Why do I like it: its quiet, effective, prevents mold in my closet - water need to be poured out from machine every 3 days, compact and easily fits in an unusable nookWhy don't I like it: customer service - for the most part, this product is really good, but out of all (10) of them I have experience ONE glitch machine where the top part kind of melted one month in, giving off some plastic smell and it stopped working. I turned off the machine immediately and informed customer service but have not heard back.
Not really enough bang for the buck.
June 27, 2016
It is an adequate dehumidifier and is a nice system. I used it in a personal grow room that was mid-70 degree temps and 60% humidity. Because this increases pest and fungal problems on the plants, I bought this unit. It is a room about 12X10 ft though mostly used for storage of lots of old household stuff. It almost immediately started dropping the humidity but that eventually held at 50-54% so some help but not nearly as much as I hoped. I could buy a couple more but think I will just save up and get a larger unit that can handle humidity better. We live in CO and humidity is not something we deal with much, so we thought this would be enough based on product claims and reviews, and it does work but just not enough.
Small and Quiet and works.
April 2, 2016
Bought this for my bathroom and it works really good for the size. I get about 8 oz of water a day from hit and mold is no longer a problem. Its been running non stop for about three weeks and no problems yet.

Bought for humid bathroom but didn't meet expectations.
November 6, 2016
I put it in our bathroom as we have a middle cottage unit of 3. In two weeks I had about 1/4 cup of water. I feel I should have had more. We do have a vent fan which may be stronger then I think and live in Colorado which is very dry having a 4 in deficit of rain presently. It just seemed very stuffy moist after showers. I placed the unit close to the shower. Maybe the size was too small for my expectations, I don't know never having used a room dehumidifier. Unit runs quietly and is most likely of use where there is real humidity! But not here in Co!
I love the size
February 17, 2016
I love the size, the quiet and it very slowly achieves the point of a dehumidifier. However, it is so very fussy about placement of the plastic dish that collects the water, I thought it was broken after the first few days. It needs to have an easier contact after dumping the water and turning it back on. I found that it takes about 3 to 4 minutes of finessing to get it to turn back on.
Decent until it broke after 5 months--then they gave me a new one!
January 22, 2016
Worked great until this morning, when it failed to turn back on after I emptied the tray. This would occasionally happen before but usually fixes itself after I reset the tray and unplug the unit for a few minutes. Not today. Got 5 months of use out of it... Not worth the money.----UPDATE!---I went to the Gurin website and filled out a warranty/contact form, and they responded immediately saying they'll send me a new unit. It arrived today and is chugging well! The way the first one broke suddenly certainly doesn't inspire much confidence in the durability of these units (as other reviews seemed to endorse similar issues), but I'm very pleasantly surprised by their customer service and response, which is deserving of one more star than what was originally given.
It Works....I Guess.
November 30, 2015
I'm sort of conflicted on how to rate this item. It works OK I guess, but maybe my expectations were a bit too high. We have this in a damp bathroom in the Southern Miami area (tropical to say the least) and after a week or so it's only taken about a half a cup (4oz) of water out of the room. I fully understand that it's not a refrigerated unit and runs on the Peltier principle and that takes time to work. But still, it's a damp room, and you can feel the dampness...yet this hasn't really made much of a difference in that week. I'm not looking for complete dryness, but just a subtle difference and I haven't felt that yet. I don't have it too close to a corner or wall, I read & followed all the recommendations. We'll keep running it and if things change for the better, I'll definitely update this review.
Good for really tiny places, just not your bedroom or living room.
November 10, 2015
I bought two, one for my bedroom, 11' x 10', and a living room 12' x 20'. They do pull moisture from the air, but not even close to the 8oz/day advertised. More like 2oz in a 75F room with 65%-70% humidity. So yeah, they work, just not as well as I had hoped. They are quiet, when the tv is going I cannot hear the one sitting right next to me. They seem to have a negligible effect on the humidity in either room, though I put them closest to areas I had issues with mildew, and I've noticed those areas have remained dry and clean smelling.I read a lot of reviews on here about them suddenly stopping working. I found one of mine did that when I replaced the water tray, but it was just a matter of jiggling it to align some poorly designed contact. Also try jiggling the power cord, it is sensitive if the machine gets bumped it might stop.Overall: A little pricey for the performance. I would not buy them again as I would probably go with a larger model.
Broken when arrived.
February 17, 2014
I have two of these units. The first one I bought a month ago and has been working very well in a steel cabinet where I store my photo equipment. It's quiet and works effectively for the small space. I bought a second unit for back up. This unit arrived defective right out of the box. The ac adapter had a part rolling around inside of it and the unit itself also had a part clanking around. I guess somebody on the assembly line was having a bad day. The green light went on, but the small fan didn't work and after a day, there was no water in the pan. Since I knew what to expect from this unit, I knew right away it was poorly assembled and must have sneaked past the QC guy at the factory. I guess he was having a bad day as well. I can't get a replacement, but Amazon will refund me once they receive the unit. I already have packaged it and will now drop it off at UPS. Amazon has it together about returns. I will order another one soon because I think it beats the other brand like this(Eva-Dry) because there are no issues with an undersized ac adapter over heating.

Ok
February 19, 2017
I've had this for a couple of months now and it's OK. I had it in a small and I mean really small closet that always had a mold problem. I would check everyday for any moisture problems. Sometimes it wouldn't get all the moisture out which kinda sucked, but it was better than before. I upgraded to a better dehumidifier now that does my whole studio and there is such a huge difference. I can breath better and even my closet is dry. This was definitely a temporary fix.
Not effective
November 1, 2016
The unit itself is quiet and easy to use. But it doesn't seem overly effective. I had a RH of anywhere between 60-85% in my master bathroom. I thought this unit would fill up quickly given those levels. I could leave it on all day and only find a millimeter of water in the tank with no change in the RH of the room. So points for aesthetics and quiet noise levels, but not optimum on functionality.
Worked well for 45 days. Stopped. Started working again
February 24, 2016
UPDATE 2: After mysteriously stop working in 45 days of use, I tried to plug and unplugging several times but it wouldn't work. Three to four days after being completely disconnected from electricity and wiped out, I plugged back in and it started working again. Now, it works better and fills about 40% to 50% capacity of reservoir in 24 hours. So far, it is still holding as of July (six months from purchase).
----
UPDATE: Product arrived in January and early March stop functioning. No warnings. In the morning the On Light was off. Very unreliable and not worth it!
----
I don't know why this is called quiet. It is pretty noisy! Other than that, it works well. In 24 hours it typically fills 1/3 of the reservoir in a bathroom without windows on the ground floor.

October 18, 2015
I have a few of these. One stopped working (green light blinking) and not sure why. The other works decently. The third will be arriving shortly to replace the broken one. These work it seems but the reliability is sketchy at this point. They do collect water and are whisper quiet. Will update my review if I can figure out why the one stopped working and the green light is blinking.
**update...not sure why it stopped working but the others are working like champs. Occasionally one of the motors make a noise but if I re-seat the dehumidifier on the counter the noise stops
Finally kicked the bucket.
March 4, 2012
I bought this from Amazon in June 2010 for use in our only shower-room in the house to aid in drying the room out between showers. I was a bit wary due to reviews I had read about the short life of this unit, but our bathroom is very small and narrow so a larger unit just wouldn't have worked. I have been waiting to write a review to see how long this thing lasted. Based on others reviews I wasn't expecting it to last too much longer than a year. Well, I pretty much got what I expected.

This unit worked very well for about the first year. I was emptying the unit about ever 2 to 3 days. Slowly it started filling up the tank slower and slower. It also started out fairly quiet. Our bath connects to our bedroom and we leave the door open most of the time, but I couldn't hear it at first. After about a year the unit started to get a noticeably louder buzz to it. Especially for several minutes after we emptied the tank; it would buzz very loudly (about as loud as one of those handheld vacuums) and then it would settle down to a fainter buzz that was not too bothersome, but still much louder than when we first bought it. We had just passed the 1.5 year mark when the unit pretty much stopped working. It still makes noise and lot's of it, but the tank has stopped filling. I am giving this three stars because I really liked how small the unit is and it worked really well for the first year. However, I do think for the price tag the unit could last at least 2 to 3 times longer than this one did.

Now I am again in the market for a new humidifier. I think I will seriously look into other units or go without the dehumidifier altogether, before I would consider buying this one again.

July 28, 2017
It seems fine but I have four sources of humidity readings in my basement (two dehumidifiers, a "weather station" and this one, and they vary by about 30 degrees from high to low in the same area, with no two readings even close... so I have no idea which is the most accurate. This reads somewhere in the middle of the others. I like the fact that it gives the high-low range on temp and humidity, in addition to the actual (?) readings for each. I just adjust the dehumidifiers for how it "feels" there.
Work good enough for me
March 23, 2017
These are great! However.. they need better calibration. I bought quite a few of these because they work out well for a quick glance of controls in the garden. Having five of these lined up right next to each other they all gave a different reading. Not way off, but enough if you want a more accurate readings. For me it's not going to stop me from using them but I do think they could still be closer in calibration.
Very convenient temperature and humidity monitor
September 11, 2016
EDIT: Stopped working after about a year and a half of just sitting on a shelf. Bottom of the screen went blank, and fresh batteries didn't help. These things are really handy to have around the house. We burn wood in the winter, which necessitates using a humidifier to keep the air comfortable. This little unit lets us monitor how cold the house gets overnight, as well as the humidity level. It's small and can stand on its own, so we typically move it from room to room to make sure heat is getting circulated properly. This coming winter we'll probably order another one or two.
I recommend trying another unit.
January 24, 2016
Good points: One unit read the correct temperature. The other unit was low by 2°F (1C). The RH on both units was accurate and responded quickly. The display is easy to read although most people expect the largest number to be the temperature, instead, that is the RH.Bad: The unit only works in whole numbers (integer) degrees Celsius. It then converts the temperature into Fahrenheit using those integer Celsius values. Some the temperatures are roughly displayed in 2°F steps. Most people want something with a tenth of a degree Fahrenheit reading. I hated it so much I gave one unit away. The other unit is only used for the RH reading.
Inaccurate & Slow Reader | Missing Clock & Date | No Backlit
January 19, 2016
PROS:- Affordable- Easy operation- Allows for the use of rechargeable batteriesCONS:- No backlit options. At nights, it is not possible to read the values.- Inaccurate reading and slow to reflect changes. Although my application is to keep an eye on the humidity of the space where my parrots are kept and so super precise readings are not required, there are discrepancies between identical units and in general by several stops in compare to other models. Some have reported drilling holes to increase air circulation for faster adjustments to the reading, but that is too much of a hassle.- I find it valuable to have a clock and date displayed as part of the panel.
Temperature reading - fine. Humidity reading - not so fine
December 31, 2015
I would love to give this a 4 or 5 star rating. The price is right. The temperature reading is pretty close to accurate, which is all I really wanted from this. I would agree with a lot of other reviews that point out the Humidity reading is hit or miss. I have two of these. I sat them side by side for a few days. The temperatures always agreed, but there was typically a 5 or 6 percent different humidity reading between the two. If one read 60%, the other read 66%. I live in Florida - it is alway humid. I really didn't buy these for the humidity information. However, if that is what you need, these may not be for you.

I figured this wasn't the best environment for this little guy and I moved it ...
June 28, 2017
I placed this in a 10'x5'x7' boiler/hot water heater room (above ground). 2 different hygrometers reported 85-90% humidity. The humidity was caused by cold water pipes sweating. After 24 hours it had removed less than a cup of water and it took 4 days to reach capacity despite being right underneath the pipes. Not a fair comparison but my full size dehumidifier brought the humidity down to 65% in <3 hours.and filled the 70oz reservoir.I figured this wasn't the best environment for this little guy and I moved it to the smaller bathroom. High humidity here as well and again this thing barely removed any moisture. Nice that it uses so little power too bad it is mostly useless. In my experience you might be better off with the Moisture Absorber crystals which work just as well as this thing did.EDIT: Support contacted me within 24 hours of posting the review offering a refund/replacement. I appreciate good customer service and I've raised the rating 1 star but as I think the unit is working as designed I can't be bothered to return it. There probably is a market out there for a tiny dehumidifier and maybe in a small closet this thing is as great as other reviewers say. As always take every review with a grain of salt and do your own research. If you have a major humidity problem your solution lies elsewhere.side note: I significantly reduced the humidity by increasing air flow using a desk fan.
Died after exactly one year, but worked really well
May 11, 2017
I own three of these dehumidifiers. I bought one last year and waited for nine months before choosing to buy two more. The first one worked so very well that I bought the next two, and between these three little devices, we were able to pull about 16 to 20 ounces of water from the air in our downstairs floor, one in each bedroom. These little devices are quiet, use very little electricity, and are easy to clean: I just use one of those tiny jewelry brushes and scrub the front of the intake vents about once every three weeks, and that's it.So if I love these so much, why am I giving this product only three stars? For the same reason another poster did: almost one year to the day after I bought the first dehumidifier, it just ... died. It's as if the thing was on a timer. Normally, I buy a warranty with everything I buy on Amazon, notably for digital storage devices. I did not buy one for the first dehumidifier, nor the for the last two, as the first one seemed to be chugging along so well.My advice to anyone who wants to buy one of these is to buy a two-year warranty. I am here to replace the first one even thought it died without warning, because with a warranty, it will be worth the cost. These devices work really, really well. They are easy to operate. They are small. And actually, if yours is not working well, please call the company or replace it, because you have a dud. My three all drew massive amounts of water out of the air.
Okay for very small space

Product is small, so it's only good for a very small space. I work in a very humid office and expected it to absorb a lot more water than it did. It takes 3 - 5 days to fill up. That doesn't seem like much absorption.
This works great for the price
November 28, 2016
This works great for the price! It's so small but it really takes SO much water from the air. I used this while we were staying in Texas and it would be filled up every 4 days! The only design flaw is with the water tank. The lid is basically fused on so it's very very hard to drain. The water has to trickle out which is a pain, but other than that we love it.
It's small and quiet which is nice, but it doesn't work very well
November 14, 2016
It's small and quiet which is nice, but it doesn't work very well. I leave it in the v-birth of my 27' sailboat and it takes about 4 days to fill up with water even though there's a TON of moisture in the air (so much so that blankets feel damp). I'll keep it because it's small and it helps but it definitely isn't the best quality.

Stopped working after a year.
December 29, 2016
I am giving this item 2 stars because initially I liked it. It was quiet and I liked the design. Although small it seemed to work effectively for the space I had it in. I read other reviews about its durability and I should have listened. After a year of use it starting making a loud noise similar to a lawn mower, then it just stopped working. I did contact the manufacturer but it had been 14 months since the purchase when I contacted them and they said I was out of their one year warranty period. Now here I am back on Amazon looking for a replacement. For the price of the item I think it should have lasted more than a year. I will not buy this brand again.
This small dehumidifier worked beautifully in a home office/study
November 13, 2016
This small dehumidifier worked beautifully in a home office/study, where lots of books require humidity control, for nearly two years. It worked well--until it didn't. One day a few weeks ago it just quit, and that's that. It seems highly overpriced for something that doesn't last any longer than that. I didn't remember what I'd paid for it, and when I looked it up, I was shocked. I feel sure I can find something more dependable for that price.
Great when it's working, but two of three failed in a year; New unit's indicator lights too dim.
November 6, 2016
I've owned a three of these units for more than a year. Up until the 10 month point I would have have given them 4 stars. However at month 10 one unit failed. And at month 11 another failed. Both, I think had some sort of fan failure (they started to get noisy) which then caused too much current draw and also burned out the power supply unit. At that point they dropped to one star in my book -- I mean, less than a year of service life? That's no good.Luckily for me, both items were replaced without hassle from the folks at Gurin. Yay! Great customer service means a lot. So I probably would have bumped them back up to three stars for starting fresh again. However, the replacement units have a couple of new issues that give me pause. First of all, there's no warranty on these new ones. Also, they've *lowered* the amperage rating of the power supply (and the unit) from 3 amps to 2.5 amps. On one hand that gives me hope that they're aware of the fan failure and changed fan units to something that is more efficient. On the other hand, I can't but help think that the lower-current unit is just a cost cutting measure. I guess time will tell. I'll update with whether or not these make it a year.A bigger daily-use issue for me is that they've replaced the red "full" LED on the older unit with a very faint amber LED. My family loved the red LED because it was very easy to see at a glance (or even just out of the corner of your eye) if the dehumidifier was full, just walking into the room. The amber, by contrast, might as well be invisible. The color is so close to the green "power" light and so faint -- even in a darkened room and looking directly at it -- that we often don't realize the dehumidifier needs emptying until we remember to visually go look in the tank.I don't really understand the logic for the change. If a customer doesn't like a bright indicator light, it's easy to mute (a piece of tape works nicely). But a too dim light means you're stuck. You can't magically boost it somehow. For these changes (lower amperage + dim indicator light), I'm taking away a star, bringing them down to 2 stars.Update: Even though I have three of these units, Amazon will only let me leave one review. My original unit is still chugging along after about 14 months. I expect a failure at some point soon (the fan has become really noisy) but so far it's still going. That one gets three stars (originally four stars, then I take away one for the noise and impending failure). If it fails within the next year it'll go down to one-star because there's no warranty coverage after a year. I don't think it's unreasonable to expect an appliance like this to last at least two years.
HELP--They stopped collecting water!
January 4, 2016
I would have given these units 5 stars if they kept working--but the two I bought stopped removing water from the air after 5-9months. (First unit worked for 9 months, second unit worked for 5 months). The units still appear to operate just as before--the light comes on and the fan works. They just don't collect water any more. I don't know if they have a warranty, but buyers should beware that these units don't work for long.I cleaned the intake and exhaust and vacuumed the dust from the interior metal workings. They both just stopped collecting water.Any ideas as to how to fix them or whether they are warranted, would be appreciated.

December 6, 2015
The product arrived on time, with great instructions. I bought it for my condo as it has humidity issues in the winter. Beads of condensation form on the windows & if left unattended form pools of water that goes onto the wood window sills that then turns black. The instructions & description on line seemed to be for small spaces. I bought & tried from Ace Hardware a larger dehumidifier last year, but it made so much noise & seemed designed for basement use only, so I returned it & hadn't found anything since, so I was so hoping that this product would be my answer. I ran it for almost a day & was thinking I was going to have to be emptying it al lot, but the truth be that there was maybe a drop after that amount of time, not even enough to get a q-tip wet when I was planning on returning it. So wished that this product worked for my needs, will look to see if Gurin has something else, I like the fact that they are a small company, so would like to support them & forgot to add it was quiet, which other reviewers had said too. Quiet is good.
Doesn't Work for Bathrooms At All
January 9, 2015
You get what you pay for in most cases, but this dehumidifier really just doesn't work. It may work for a closet that's super small, but that's about it. My bathroom is only about 6' x 5' (30 sq feet), and this dehumidifier does nothing for it after a shower. After a shower, my RH % is at 90 based on my accurate meter. I turn this device on, and even after an hour, it only accrues a few millimeters of water in it's small container. The RH of the bathroom is still in the high 80s. I ended up returning both devices I received (I got another one to see if my first one was just broken).I'd highly recommend only getting this product for extremely small rooms that do not have any steam running through it. If you're thinking about using this for a bathroom, you definitely need to get a larger dehumidifier.

can't even do a closed bathroom, let alone the 1100sqft it claims!
August 20, 2017
looks great and quiet but, hmm it has been 5 days and the water level is not even a half inch high yet! i have it in regular size upstairs bathroom that has moisture issues that has caused mildew stains on walls and doors and now started to grow mold on back shower wall. i know there is plenty of moisture for this thing to suck up during & after our daily hot showers but, nope it has chosen to only suck it up at a snail pace, leaving plenty of time for moisture in air to continue doing its damage. getting returned!
Nope
October 1, 2016
Upon using this in our 200sq ft RV to help with condensation it has not helped at all. I read reviews prior to purchase that were used in a larger RV or space and they have this item good reviews now I question the validity of those reviews. Of you purchase this item be sure out is for a very small space such as a bathroom.
Junk that can't keep up.
November 3, 2015
I bought this some years ago for a bathroom with no ventilation. While it did collect water it was no where near powerful enough to keep mold at bay.

After a short while the motor started making a lot of noise and I would have the whack the unit until the fan popped back into place. Cheaply made.

Save the outrageous $45 and put it toward the Frigidaire dehumidifying unit bad boys. They are more cumbersome but they actually work!
Not the best product in my opinion
February 19, 2015
Not the best product in my opinion. Ok, here is what it does do. It does remove moisture from the air and is very quiet. I gave it 2 stars because it is only good for a small closet. It will not dehumidify a room. I live in Florida and like my humidity level to be around 48-50% for my comfort. I placed this in my bathroom which has poor circulation and retains moisture and there was no change in the humidity after running it for a whole day. I started the unit and my hygrometer read 59% the next morning it read 59% no change. There was about a capful of water in the tank but it was obvious to me this would not work. I think the issue is in the air flow, there is barely any air that come out of the vents. I will be returning this product.
you can buy a good humidity guage for about $10
December 29, 2014
I bought an Eva Dry Dehumidifier, Model: EDU-1100 for storing my RV (travel trailer with less than 650 cubic feet interior). It removed about 1 cup of water each 24 hours, but that is not the whole story. On numerous checkings, I found that it lowered the humidity only about 3 percentage points, compared to the outdoors humidity. For example, when the outdoors humidity was 75%, it was lowered to 72% inside the RV. 72% is not an acceptable level of humidity. Next, I tried it on a trip. With 2 of us sleeping inside, the windows were steamy on the inside when we got up in the morning and the inside humidity was 76%. Back home, I put my Frigidaire condenser type dehumidifier inside the RV for 18 hours and found 4 cups of water. Condenser type dehumidifiers cost more, produce more heat and noise, and use more electricity, but they remove much more water. If the noise bothers you, just run it when you are not trying to sleep. By the way, you can buy a good humidity guage for about $10, to see what's really happening. You may find Eva Dry-1100 is adequate for a small closet, but nothing much bigger. If you are just trying to save money, don't waste it on Eva-Dry-1100 for an RV.

I bought this to monitor temperature and humidity under my plant lights. Worked fine for a while, then the second number on the thermometer faded so that it can only be view from an angle. So something in the device display is not working properly. I can see no visible damage to the display Everything else continutes to work. New batteries did not help. I used this under my plant lights to monitor temperature and humidity....so perhaps moisture or heat caused the problem.
Works but not precise. (about 2 degrees of "separation")
March 23, 2017
It works for what i wanted. It seems to skip a degree though. I usually read 73-75-77, never see 74 or 76.But it wasnt needed for it's precision, and works for what i wanted it to.EDIT: Bought another that is more precise, to compare. Watching a climb of 75 to 77 degrees, this monitor stayed at 75 the entire time. Not very accurate. Only recommend if you are not worried about a degree or two of separation. Not what I wanted though.
Defective Manufacturing
February 25, 2017
I bought this a long time ago and it never worked, it would say 65 degrees f and ~25% all the time no matter what the temperature or humidity was. Clearly broken, but it was so cheap I wasn't going to return it.Recently I had it lying around and decided to open it up and see if there was anything interesting going on inside and lo and behold, I found a glaring problem. One of the legs of the temp/humidity sensor itself was never soldered on. There was solder on the solder pad where it should have been attached, but the leg was up and off to the left, nowhere near the pad.So I heated up my soldering iron and attached the detached leg. The monitor now works properly as far as I can tell. It's responding to temperature changes and humidity changes, though it's very slow to respond and I can't vouch for its accuracy yet.Bottom line, it's a poorly manufactured product, but if you have issues with it like I did, try opening it up and checking the solder joints. You might be able to fix it pretty easily.
... AcuRite 00613 Indoor Humidity Monitor due to its being recommended at another website
December 10, 2016
I bought the AcuRite 00613 Indoor Humidity Monitor due to its being recommended at another website. For the past couple of weeks I have had the AcuRite sitting next to a Fischer synthetic hair hygrometer - the least expensive, higher quality hygrometer I had been able to find previously. With my Honeywell evaporative humidifier on during the nights and off during the days, the AcuRite consistently reads about 13-15%age points less than the Fischer. I actually have two Fischers, and the second Fisher (usually in another room) is currently reading 3%age points lower than the first Fischer as they sit side by side. Still, that is a 10-12 point difference. I do not currently own a sling psychrometer (one of the most accurate measures of humidity), so I can't be certain which hygrometer is the most accurate, but I do know I'd be putting my money on one of the Fischers. Also, after the first week of using the AcuRite with its very small slotted vents, I drilled 20 holes in the plastic case to promote air circulation. It made no significant difference. I will note that the unit is very responsive to changes in humidity - just breathe on it and the numbers rise quickly, just, I suspect, not very accurately.
Incorrect calibration. unreliable?
April 29, 2016
My house has a weird humidity issue looks like. Disclaimer: My house is in a flood zone and we can see up to 12 inches of water in the crawl space sometimes. Yes, it scary! That said, I'm told that if you run the heater continuously; which is the case in my house as my wife is always feeling cold, the humidity falls to desert level conditions which would mean under 25%. The opposite happens in my house. In winter the humidity goes up when the heater is running continuously. A co-worker suggested that if there is lack of humidity, then it might be drawing humidity from some other source, which in my case would be the crawl space. But that theory does not hold good for the upstairs bedroom where the humidity goes up as well with running heater.Anyways, I'm sort of convinced this product is not doing what its supposed to be doing unless someone can tell me otherwise. So, I told Amazon customer service that I would like to return this. So, they sent me another one for free and told me to toss the first one in the garbage. The second one is way off as well...on the higher side. See the picture of both of them side-by-side showing different readings. They were in the same place together for quite sometime before I snapped the picture. The color variation is due to one being closer to the cabinet than the other. They are consistently showing different readings.
Cannot handle high humidity environments
December 13, 2014
I purchased this hygrometer to use inside a terrarium in order to monitor temperature and humidity. Unfortunately, it only worked for a few days before it began malfunctioning, the characters on the display fading away until they were completely gone. It appears to me that the device could not handle the high humidity conditions of my terrarium.I like the design and features of this Acu-Rite device, but if it can't handle humidity without breaking down it's not much help to me.If anyone knows where I can get a device like this that can handle high humidity environments (90%+) please comment below as I haven't had much luck finding a reliable hygrometer.

Really for a very, very small space (e.g., closet). Otherwise, it just barely makes any difference. Much more effective models for reducing humidity, even at this size; however, this is very quiet.
Wasn't very effective
July 20, 2016
Bought this for our camper since the things are sealed so tight, moisture builds up pretty bad. Ran it on days with 50%+ humidity and it only managed to gather up about 1/8 cup of water. Doesn't seem like it's doing much to me.

June 13, 2016
Should have specified that it was for 64 sq feet versus closets, baby room etc. It is ineffective for a 10x10 room. More alarming, is the ac/dc adapter becomes extremely HOT after a couple of hours. Would not let this run continuously. Warm air is blown out of the top. Very quiet.

works great...until it doesn't. PLANNED OBSOLESCENCE !!!
May 1, 2016
BUYER BEWARE: I purchased 2 of those. They were different brands (One was this Gurin, the other was Ivation) but the exact same product (other than the brand logo), so probably from the very same factory. They both died within a week of eachother, in the exact same way (stops working, light blinking), and precisely 1 year after the date of purchase (and the 1 year warranty). Talk about planned obsolescence.Other than that, it might be worth noting that this Gurin dehumidifier was removing water from the air twice slower than another dehumidifier with the same specs, so that was also disappointing.
Noisy!
March 18, 2016
After only having this for four months the motor is extremely loud to the point we cannot turn it on. Sounds like it is on it's last leg.Not impressed for the price. Should have spent another $50 and got a higher quality unit.
Terrible product - from a customer who actually bought it
January 6, 2016
I was skeptical when I purchased this due to the number of five star reviews followed by disclaimers of people who had received the product for free in order for their review. However, I really did (still do) need a humidifier, so I went against my gut instinct. Sure enough, the thing wouldn't even turn on at first. After a few minutes of plugging/unplugging it, I got it to work, but I'm lucky if I can keep the thing running for more than five minutes before it mysteriously shuts off. There's no timer on it and I've tried all outlets in my house. In fact, the product works best when you hold it at a 45 degree angle - obviously not a feasible solution since it turns off when you set it down. Don't waste your money - buy a different product!
Burned out after 1 year.. was perfect for a safe
September 4, 2015
** UPDATE **After approximately 15 months, it quit working. Since I've seen the inside of my share of devices I had no hesitation opening it up to figure out why. The answer came quickly; the wall adapter failed. The old one says it's 3 amps; but it feels a little lightweight for that label to be true so no surprise.Since it worked well otherwise, I'll probably attempt to replace the wall wart, but most folks would end up chunking the whole thing, and be out the money.** ORIGINAL **I have this inside a medium size gun safe, and it's a perfect match. Keeps the humidity below 45%, typically more like 35%. Note, I have the power supply inside the safe as well, so it warms the inside a few degrees as well (this also helps with controlling condensation). It's very easy to use and empty. Runs quietly. I need to empty it once a week in the worse conditions, far less other times of year.
A BROKEN/DEAD quiet, effective way to reduce humidity in small rooms!!!
March 7, 2015
UPDATE 2015 03 19The unit has been running continuously and without problems since it arrived. We really liked it ... until yesterday, when the motor died. After less than two months use, it just stopped. My father-in-law is going to see if the motor can be fixed, but a unit driven by an electric motor that fails after less than 2 months is a failure. Adapter and switch still work fine, but the motor was just non-functional.ORIGINAL REVIEWOur nearly 100 year old home does not yet have a venting fan in the bathroom, and so a shower or two tends to make it very humid. Even with the window open, unless it's a breezy day, the dampness tends to linger there. To help get ahead of this condition, we purchased the Gurin DHMD-210. We plugged it in to an outlet between the basin and toilet and have been running it for several weeks now. It's very quiet, stays out of the way of normal traffic, and knocks the humidity levels down to acceptable levels very noticeably and keeps them there. Of course right after a shower, it takes a while for the room to dry out again, but not nearly as long as it used to. I really like this unit and will be buying a 2nd one for a damp closet we're trying to dry out. Excellent product.NOTES - the indication that it takes about a week to fill up the reservoir is about right in our experience. It's easy enough to empty that we usually do so when it's about half full, but it's nice to know the unit will shut off automatically when it fills up.
Doesn't work at all
February 11, 2014
I bought this small dehumidifer because the reviews suggested that it would be perfect for something like a closet. Since my closet is used to air dry hockey gear (shirts, pads, gloves, etc.) I thought the dehumidifer would be able to help with the fact that sometimes the closet feels like a sauna when you open the door.I realize that the dehumidifier isn't supposed to draw water out of the air very quickly, so I wasn't surprised when at first there was only a little bit of water build up in the container. But then later on I went to check on the container and the water was GONE. It had evaporated... and ever since then the dehumidifier has remained completely dry.Doesn't work at all.

Does not work. At all.
March 14, 2017
I've had this unit plugged in and turned on for three days straight and there is not a single drop of water in the tank. Not less than I was expecting, it is totally dry. It was in the unfinished storage portion of our basement. I've used other units that consistently pulled moisture out of the air, so its not that its just a super dry room. Not sure what the issue is with this unit, but back it goes.
Not Up To The Task
September 26, 2016
I bought this for our little 21" trailer that we keep in storage in our yard. Even though the trailer is small and very tight, (under 150 square feet, molded fiberglass, double-pane windows, extra spray-foam insulation, etc.), this little dehumidifier doesn't knock down the humidity one bit. I run it 24 hours a day but it just isn't up to the task. It might work for my gun safe, but not for anything much larger or not completely sealed to the environment.
Think twice before you get this. Capability of water removing is very limited
March 10, 2016
This device is not effective in dehumidifying. I could turn on this device whole night and the humidity delta would be at most couple percent. In the description it claims that it can remove up to 1100 cubic feet. I think it's extremely misleading mention only the the coverage (it's not even coverage in sqft!) and not mention water removal capability anywhere. If you are planning to use it in a very small room and not so damped area, this dehumidifier might work. But this is definitely not for a normal bedroom in humid weather.
I am very disappointed in this product and wouldn't recommend it
June 5, 2015
We bought this for our master bathroom to help with the humidity that led to mold.
When we first bought & received this, towards the end of the summer 2014, it worked well. Somewhere between 1 and 2 months of use however, it just didn't collect water anymore. This was the same time the weather got cooler and dryer here in Maryland. I thought maybe the air was dryer and it wasn't the Dehumidifier fault. When I started to use it again this past month (May 2015), I realized it is the Dehumidifier. The air is very humid but the extra moisture is not being collected in it.
I am very disappointed in this product and wouldn't recommend it. I appreciate products that do what they say they are going to do as well as last. A dehumidifier is not a disposable product.
Not enough power
August 10, 2012
I have a basement room that is 9 x 9, a perfect size for this supposedly. The temperature is always about 70 and the humidity is around 65%. This unit does pull a small amount of water out, but not enough to ever lower the humidity on the gauge. My guess is the tiny bit of fresh air from under the door is enough to equalize any moisture this unit removes. I was hoping to at least lower it a few points! I like that it's quiet but I wish the fan was adjustable, it seems like it would work better with a little bit stronger fan. I also think it would work better in a warmer room so there would be a greater temp difference for the unit to work with.

Update: Two died within days of each other after 5 months. They make you pay for shipping, not sure it's worth my time to even bother if they are going to fail every six months...

Not Trustworthy
October 12, 2017
Have had this unit running for 24 hours now, and none of the readings are correct. Humidity reads in my apartment at 26% and the humidity level icon says its OK, which is NOT in a healthy range, according to the instruction manual. Also, it says my temperature is 79 degrees, and my thermostat reads 70 degrees. Not trustworthy. Don't buy this one!
Inaccurate by 5 degrees
August 12, 2017
I have had this now for a year and it is inaccurate by 5 degrees Fahrenheit. I have set the a/c in the house to 78 and it shows 73. I have also tested the area this sits with an infrared thermometer and that shows the temperature to be 77.8. I even changed the battery. Who knows how accurate the humidity sensor is. Not sure how this has so many good reviews.
AcuRite has a quality control problem with these.
June 5, 2017
purchased 6 of these over the past 5 yrs. and they worked great. Purchased 4 more in 2017 but they are way off. I lined all 10 of the ones we own in a row and the old ones all read within 1 degree or % of each other but the 4 new ones are way off. 9% humidity and 7 degrees which is huge discrepancy. All read different too.Used to be a good instrument for the money.
Worked well when it did... short lived.

I bought this on Dec 22 2016. It worked well for months. Today (April 24 2017), only 4 months later, I noticed it was not on/working. I swapped out the battery for a new one and it still did not work. I tried 3 different batteries (including ones from my TV remote that I know to be working) and still did not work. Sad it didnt work longer.
Buy something with a better return policy in case it is defective
December 5, 2016
Item is defective and has a terrible return policy. If you want to return it, you have to pay shipping and handling. After the company receives the product, THEY decide if it is defective. My product will not display anything below 53% humidity. I purposely put it in a low humidity environment and a high humidity environment for 24 hours each. I did the salt test and it displayed 72% humidity, which is close enough, but no matter what I do, it will not read below 53%.
