Great quality scans - just be sure to keep it clean
July 7, 2017
Scanned over 3000 pictures the weekend I got this and I absolutely love it. I will caution when scanning old pictures I would recommend wiping the scanner with the cleaning cloth every 100 pictures or so - as we progressed through the pictures, lines became more and more apparent on the scans. You can see in the files where we had wiped the scanner down because the lines disappeared. This is just a learning though and not a negative on the scanner.
Simple to use and great images!

I bought this primarily for Family History, for pictures and documents, etc. I love that you can run it through on the base or remove it and scan it manually, as some of those photos and documents were very old and brittle and I did not feel comfortable running it through automatically. I am not a very "tech-savvy" person, but I had no problem figuring it out. The images come out crisp and clean. I absolutely love this scanner.
Works as advertised

Includes all the original contents: Scanner, dock, USB cord, AC adapter, Manual & Quick Start Guide, pouch for scanner, cleaning cloth for scanner window, white balance calibration card, But you got to buy you own microSD memorycard. It has been used, but is in very good condition and works fine.
Good scanner.

I have scanned more than 3000 pictures and newspaper articles. Works well
Well worth what we paid and worked better than anticipated.
April 25, 2016
We had many photos from our 49 years together and before that were in boxes in the attic. We thought it would be a huge task to scan some of these into the computer. How wrong we were! Not only was it fun to take a "trip down memory lane" but it was so easy to scan over 2000 of our memories into the computer. Now we can share our memories with friends and they are on the computer, to view whenever we want. The Magic Wand worked better than anticipated. It was easy, fast and the pictures look amazing. Well worth what we paid.
best purchase ever!

what you need to know about this product:in the box: wand scanner, docking station, usb/a/c adapter, dust wipe, protective sleeve.needs to be charged first (if using w/o the dock).must purchase micro sd memory card. won't work without it. (supports up to 32gb)docking station has to be plugged in to workdpi: 300, 600, 1050. on the dock it scans to 1200 dpi.scans up to size 8.5x11The LCD screen is a nice touch but it's so small, it's kinda pointless. the screen only has 3 digits to display you photo count. so it goes up to 999 but then if you want to see how many photos you have scanned, you can see that number on the lcd but in a smaller area on the bottom of the photo. so it will say for example 1650/1650, and tell you what photo you're on when you push the back button and skim through the photos.I have been wanting to digitize all my old photos that have been sitting in a box for years and I finally got around to it. This has been by far one of the best purchases I've ever made. My sisters and I recently started scrapbooking and I thought it would be a good idea to backup our photos to make future copies. The VuPoint brand is new to me so I was kinda skeptical but the price was right so I took the leap. I specifically bought this wand scanner because of the docking station, which turns this device into an auto feeder. Although you have to feed the photos one at a time, it's quick, easy and way faster than the daunting task of a flatbed scanner. I've already scanned over 1000 photos in the last 3 days, and have enjoyed the process. I brought it to work and everyone was asking me about it, and commented on how "neat" it was. I tested out all the settings. jpeg, pdf, low, med, high with and without the docking station, then I uploaded the photos/documents/ticket stubs onto my computer to get a better look at the results. Honestly, you can't tell the difference between low, medium, or high by just viewing them on a screen. The real difference is when you zoom in, crop or actually print out the photo (which I have yet to do). Of course if you want to get the best prints, printing from the original negative is ideal. (side note: this device does not scan negatives). I've been scanning all my photos on medium and high on a 4 gb micro sd card. Obviously the higher the dpi, the more space it takes up on your memory card. So if you plan on scanning all your images on high or you just have a ton to scan, then you probably need a memory card with more gigs. So far my 4gb is up to 2,200 photos. Also I prefer using the docking station just because it's faster, but I love the fact that you can take the wand off and it becomes portable. So now I can scan all my grandma's photo albums without taking them out of her eyesight. The albums are so old, that the photos can't be taken out without damaging the photo. One thing I totally didn't take into account is that when you use the wand off the dock that it will also scan the table or whatever you are scanning your photo/document on. So when you upload it, you will have to crop out the background.Bottom line: I'm very happy with this product. It does exactly what it's designed to do. The price is right (even better when you split the cost with your two sisters :-D ). Save yourself the extra money and get this VuPoint magic wand portable scanner + auto feed dock. Also the black/white chevron print is super cute!!!

Good review for helping to make a decision!
November 5, 2017
So far so good! I've been using this for my business and it's really a useful little tool. I bought the certified referbished because 1 I repair electronics for my business, I've gotta support repair I mean come on and 2 I mean do you really need the new one? This thing looks brand spanking new, why waist money on a new one when you'll get the same deal for less? Unless... I don't know you're just weird maybe? Just get the referbished, just because it says referbished doesn't mean you're always losing out. If it seems fishy that's usually when referbished is a no go but this a good and honest company, plus referbished is environmentally friendly!
ideal small scanner.
June 2, 2017
This is so much better than I thought it would be! It was easy to set up and it works perfectly and quickly. It is so tiny, it can be kept anywhere. I don't use it regularly, so I keep it in a desk drawer most of the time, more to keep the cod out of the socket than to get the scanner off my desk. It comes with everything you need, including a clear plastic sleeve for scanning small items. My husband has a giant flatbed scanner and I like this one much better!
GREAT MACHINE TO HAVE IN YOUR HOME!
April 6, 2017
I MUST SAY THAT THIS WONDERFUL LITTLE MACHINE IS A MUST+++ TO HAVE IN YOUR HOME... BEST OF ALL..IT'S VERY PORTABLE AND DOESN'T REQUIRE YOU TO BUY BATTERIES. NOW I DON'T HAVE TO PAY $1.00 FOR EVERY SINGLE DOCUMENT THAT I FAX! THIS MACHINE WILL SAVE YOU MONEY AND SAVE YOU LOTS OF HEADACHES! CAN SCAN DOCUMENTS IN ALL FORMATS:PDF, JPEG,GIF,TIFF.
This Compact Scanner Fit the Bill.
July 14, 2016
I love this scanner. I'd had all in one machines in the past that either gave up the ghost on the printer side, or on the scanner side. I did not want to purchase another all and in machine. I purchased this scanner to scan documents both to save on my hard driver, and to fax out. I sent a fax through a pack n send store recently and the cost came to $11 for 8 pages. Ridiculous! By purchasing this item, I'll recoup that money in a year's time. While others have complained that this device isn't "intuitive", what do you want for a small compact scanner at this price? Anyone who is the slightest tech savvy will have no issues figuring out how to save documents.I haven't tried it with photos yet. That's a whole other ball of wax. I didn't buy it for that purpose.I love that it is so compact and takes up very little room. That is a huge plus. I can't imagine why I'd take it with me anywhere. My line of work doesn't call for that. But it is nice to know that if I needed to, I could.
Easy to install and use, works great for my need.
April 29, 2016
Works great for my need, easy to use. Had the DS-600 before and the connector change from miniUSB to microUSB is good. I only use the scanner once in a while so it is nice to be able to store it inside a drawer when not used. Works well with Windows 10. Scan quality is great for my needs (receipts, financial docs, business cards, etc). One bit of complain is that with DS-600 it showed a preview of the scan for me to decide whether to stop, continue with the next one, or re-scan. Maybe I just haven't figured out the right setting but not a big deal as I just scan each page separately and combine them into a single PDF file afterward if I want to.
Great little scanner at a good price.
February 18, 2016
This is a great little scanner. I am using it to bring in all my old photos to digital format and it is working perfectly. Just insert the picture, scan it and name it. It's small enough to take everywhere with you if you are traveling and need it to go somewhere. Most of the time, I pull it out and plug it in when I need it and then put it away when I am done. It comes with a little bag to put it in as well so it doesn't collect dust. The software could use some fixing as the average computer user may have difficulty understanding how to name the pictures and where to save them etc. but I was able to move past that and it does not impact the functionality.I purchased this because I went to a laser printer that was not multifunction so I still wanted to have a scanning capability. This one is meeting all my needs.

Scanning base continues to run sometimes. Have to remove unit and reboot to start the scanning process again. Have gotten the white lines reported by others, just have to clean and rescan. Have scanned over 1400 pictures so far.......
Good for travel
January 20, 2016
The first scanner had an issue...a black line appeared during my scans. Contacted the company and they resolved it ASAP! The new scanner has been fantastic! I travel a lot and this is the perfect size travel scanner. It takes some getting used to when hand holding the scanner and getting the right speed but its not that big of a learning curve. I bought a house while away on business and had to pull over to scan in a document to email back to them. The only thing I think would make this better is if it didn't need to be plugged in to engage the feed thru scan...If it had a batter life that would engage the wheels so you could scan maybe up to 10 pages without needing a plug. Its not a big deal as I have a converter in my vehicle but it would be nice to know that you could do a feed thru without being plugged in.
yes and no
June 21, 2015
Does a great job but wish it was wider. Hard to get the wand into the crease of a book far enough to scan the width of the page without breaking the binding to lay the book flat. But it makes great images, it picks up pencil without a problem, high quality PDF or JPeg. Would be nice to have one that would scan bigger things.
I really like how useful this is
June 21, 2015
I really like how useful this is; scans books, documents, pictures, etc. I thought the display screen would be great because then I could see the image to ensure it was good enough before throwing away the paper. However, if you are looking at quality details, the small screen and it's zoom function don't really give you the full picture (no pun intended!) Therefore I scan things, then load the JGPs/PDFs to the computer, evaluate, sometimes scan again, and then throw away the paper. A little bit more work than I wanted but for the price and the portability it's worth it.
Good solution for the traveler
April 29, 2015
This little scanner can save the day as it is easily packed in my laptop backpack and be able to scan anywhere from the power of the usb. Surprisingly, the base actually feeds the paper through real smooth and generally the quality is real nice. It doesn't seem to like a crease in the paper or for it to be bent up but I really do not think ANY scanner likes that. It is super cool that you can just "wand" over something and scan it also. It takes a couple shots at it to get the speed that you need to move down, but very easy.I took off one star because of what might even be perceived functionality and the lack of answers when I have emailed this manufacturer. They give you a disc with Nuance Paperport 14. You can install it, but you cannot use it directly. This was big for me as when I scan something, usually I want to edit it. Very rare do I get something that I don't already get through email with no need to then scan it.The thing with this scanner is that you activate the scanner and it does that, acts as a scanner but local to the hardware device itself. Does not show as a scanner to the PC. It saves the image as a jpeg or pdf which is great but you have to then hit the scan button for a couple seconds which then accesses your memory can which then shows up as a usb device to the PC.The great part about Paperport is that as you SCAN it, the OCR ability takes over and automatically makes fields editable if they are recognized properly. With this you have to do it manually in Paperport or Acrobat if you have it. Small price to pay, not the end of the world but I thought it was worth a star.

Great scanners! Way too restrictive order limit!
July 21, 2017
The scanners are great little machines. I purchased 5 for office staff to use with tablets while traveling. My fault with this order is that I needed 5 units, one for each staff member (5 different locations within the State), and I was only able to purchase 2 from any given vendor (not just in a single order, but for all orders at a vendor!) - and believe me I tried all over including @ Brother. I have no idea why there is such a restriction on the purchase of these things, but it is a huge, huge nuisance!
Receipt scanner
April 19, 2016
It's easy to use although when I first tried scanning my receipts for the business I didn't notice that apparently the default file path was to jpeg so I had to change that. Also, when scanning the first few receipts they came out unreadable until I changed the resolution from the main setup page. After doing those two things I haven't had any trouble. Another plus is I can rename some of the buttons to suit my purpose such as office expenses, supplies, car expenses, etc. That way when I scan a receipt using a certain button I've named and have set up to save to a certain folder I'm all set and know where it is later. Great little scanner for the price. Stores in my drawer until needed as I only use it a couple times a month. I haven't tried scanning anything but receipts so I can't say how it does for pictures. For what I need it works great and the price was right. I couldn't see spending $200 to $300 to scan some receipts.
Works well, bigger than I Thought
November 23, 2015
The scanner works well on a Mac and I love the fact that it's powered by the usb, so I don't have to look for a power source to operate it. It also comes with a drivers cd, carrying case, calibrator sheet, and cleaning sheet. Unfortunately, I, giving it four stars because it the drivers were too old out of the box, so it kept messing up my Mac until I went to the brothers site and downloaded the latest software and firmware updates, which got the scanner to work without trouble. Furthermore, if you want to scan multiple PDFs, you need to make sure each page has automatically pulled in by the scanner or the scanner will not recognize the page and end your multi page and leave you with bunch of separate, multi page PDFs. I ended up having to download software to merge the PDFs into one. The scanner is fast and I was able to scan over 100 receipts quickly and load them on my computer. I recommend this scanner to anyone that needs a portable scanner that scans well and gives sharp images but the software will need to be updated to make sure it works properly.
small and simple; perfect for occasional scanning
July 6, 2015
This is a perfect scanner if you want something which doesn't take much space, and you don't need to scan a ton of things. It works great in both windows (I've tested on windows 7) and linux (I've tested on debian testing). I've used it for text and handwritten documents, pictures, and cards (e.g. business cards, library card). It comes with a plastic cover so you can scan things with irregular shape or pencil.Pros:- small (easy to put away, bring between the office and home)- quick- easy to useCons:- not good for lots of pages (no automatic feeder)
It's good, but it could be better.
May 5, 2015
I like it for the convenience, and didn't mind it for the price, but the quality doesn't really change based on what you select for it. The resolution does, sure, but you're going to get the same image, just up-converted after the fact. I don't see really any difference between 200-300 DPI and 600 DPI with this scanner. I don't really need it, it's a PORTABLE scanner, i'll just use it for scanning text documents, but I'm bummed out nonetheless. that it doesn't perform as advertised. The software is OK, but it's not plug and play. Windows won't find the driver automatically, you'll have to insert the disc and run the setup. Don't use the included extra software options, they're kind of worthless and don't function well. Just the actual scanner program, which is OK and will get the job done. The only real thing I like about the software is that after you tell it to scan, it'll wait up to 30 seconds to automatically scan the next document, which is neat when you create a multi-page PDF document.
Couldn't be happier... kinda
December 11, 2014
Couldn't be happier... kinda.First off - the scanner itself. The unit arrived carefully packaged and without any damage. I check stuff like that because I know I'll be writing an Amazon review at some point and want to say it. No rattlesnakes in the box. No ticking time bomb. Just a scanner. And those two air pillow thingies that I like to pretend that I'm gonna keep in an upstairs closet and use to ship Christmas presents until I remember that I'm a compulsive procrastinator and end up buying everyone Amazon gift cards and trying to figure out how to use Grandma's "Cross Stitch The Mona Lisa" kit for myself when I find it about mid February.I bought this scanner for what I hoped would be three purposes: scanning receipts, scanning a boat load of pictures at a moderate quality level so I could get rid of the shoeboxes and managing my daily influx of bills/mail/threats and other stuff that comes in the mail that I used to compulsively hold onto and move around the country with me but would rather scan and trash so I can compulsively carry around a single hard drive full of PDFs of that same stuff that I'll never look at again.I am happy to report that this scanner nails all three at a reasonable price point, which would have earned it a five star rating. There are a few annoying things (that didn't have to happen) that cost the star. I'll explain, but during the breakdown of each scanning experience.Receipts: This scanner handles the receipt scanning like a pro. I've set it up at the end of my desk, hovering over the edge and directly above a trash can. I come home at the end of the day and push the receipts in (after a little software interface - more on this later). It scans the receipts and gravity pushes them out into the trash can. The scan settings are perfect for this operation. Color or Black and White anywhere from 200 - 600 DPI. For receipts I am doing color scans (cause who doesn't love color and the file size on color vs BW is negligible) at about 200 DPI. It's honestly overkill but whatever. The scans are so good I'm using my phone on my computer monitor to hit the Walmart smart saver code box ($3.66 so far, RAWR!) after the receipt is long gone.Pictures: This one is a little tickier. I was hoping for a little bit better native quality without having to fuss with the picture inputs. I've eventually settled off on scanning in a TIF files and then mass converting to JPG. It seems to do a better job for some reason (the native JPG scans look a little wonky with the pictures, but the TIF's look fine). As with the receipts (but more relevant here) the scanner auto feeds. You put one picture in, it scans it and a countdown timer starts on your screen. As long as you get the next picture "grabbed" by the scanner in the next 30-60 seconds (user editable setting) it stores the first picture and scans the next. The scanner comes with a variety of input scan settings (jpg, tiff, pdf, etc) and does the processing work well. I'd rate this function at a B. I would have settled for a C, so I'm happy but if you are buying a scanner JUST for picture scanning I think you could probably do better. As a multi-function, this hit the mark. As a side note, I'm also scanning some lower quality items (recipe cards, clippings, etc) and those come out like a champ at the basic settings (200DPI, color). So, where is the bad?The software and a lame money grab by Brother. First up, the software.A multifunction scanner like this is designed to appeal to the home organization OCD personality. I am one of those. As a result, I am scanning a variety of things trying to clean up my house for the day when Better Homes and Gardens isn't going to come over and take pictures, followed by Lifehacker who nominates me as basket case of the year who can pull a receipt for the original copy of Netscape I bought in 1996 off my hard drive (which I can now do. Call me Lifehacker.) I want each of these files to go to a different place. Current receipts to one folder on my hard drive. Archive receipts to another. Recipes to a third. My family pictures to a fourth. The shoebox full of pictures from my in-laws to a fifth. Etc. This software can do it, but the basic software requires you to click a browse button and navigate your hard drive to change the directory every single time you change. And there is no memory related to a drop down box. At this point I've used all five directories. A drop down box would save a lot of time switching between projects. Or perhaps (if you really wanted to get crazy) a user configurable "What are you scanning now?" pop up when you opened the program. Let me pick out the directories, put a cutsie picture up there and let me do it easy. Don't make me look at "My Documents" and drill down fifteen directories to get to where I want this picture of my wife when she was three and was harassing her father to go. Small thing, but over time it's gotten annoying. So easy to fix.And I'm sure Brother would have fixed it if they weren't too busy writing their receipt organization program. The one that the CD said I could install - but only after I downloaded it - and the CD bounced me over to the Brother website and made me enter the serial number off the bottom of the scanner. Which I did. And then they asked for ten bucks.I can only assume that this software that I am supposed to pay ten bucks for will be as user friendly as the one you gave me. You know, the one without the drop down box or folder memory? Or maybe it doesn't have that, but I can go to another website and enter the serial number again and give you ten more bucks? A money grab. An upsell. A digital version of the annoying Best Buy salesman that wants to help you as you walk around the store (along with his fifteen friends) before you go stand in the line at the front of the store for thirty minutes as the one ill-tempered cashier helps everyone. And tries to sell you a warranty.Good scanner. Gets the job done. Slimy upsell effort and mediocre software. The three star to Brother is brought up by the solid hardware of the scanner itself. Four stars.EDIT: The button scanning is cool, but if you use it (insert the document, let the scanner grab it, press the button) it pulls the document into one folder that Brother set up. It's buried down in your "My Documents" folder. If you use this, you'll have to manually sort anything you scan to where you want it. So now I've got a sixth folder. That I can select if I browse, or just press the button. Meh. Easier to use the program and browse there than scan things in to a hard drive directory that Ponce DeLeon himself couldn't find and have to move them all manually.

I gave an average review because it's an average product but it is just as they described it. You get quite a few errors when using just the wand and I work on the road so I often brings us to bond with me to quickly scan documents. When using the docking station and feeding documents in there are rarely errors. Overall I would definitely recommend this product for what it does but don't expect something that you can whip out & run across the document and get a perfect scan that you can email without any trouble, it takes a little bit of doing.

Frustrating.to use but great when you figure it out
November 11, 2017
DSmobile scannerThis is my 3rd DS mobile scanner, I really love these scanners for what they do, I will admit that I think they should last longer and apparently the software needs some improvement because the longer you use them weird things start happening and then towards the end of their life they will only scan one or two documents and then the program crashes and you end up spending a lot of time repairing the program and or restarting your computer and rescanning your documents. I will admit that I killed the last one trying to clean it. I also read another review that said they kept getting partial pages, I too had that problem but I figured out how to overcome, although I can’t figure out why this works but if you feed your document in from the bottom of the page it usually scans the whole page, when you do that you have to go into settings/options and check 90 degree rotation, it’s a pain and time consuming but fortunately it doesn’t happen often. This scanner has proven to be a challenge learning how to find and name my documents but after working with it all day I have finally figured that out as well but again I think there could be a better way, I haven’t figured out a way to choose a file location and name my file before I scan it, so here’s what I do...I just chose a file location and that’s where all my scans go and the program automatically assigns them a number, as soon as you are finished scanning a document a preview shows up on the left hand side of the screen and it will say image with numbers and .pdf or whatever file format you chose, if you right click underneath the preview of the last page of your document a window will open up that allows you to save and name it wherever you want it to go. Everything you scan will pile up wherever you chose to send them when you initially scanned them if you don’t go to that folder and delete them periodically. Is it frustrating to use...absolutely but it’s the cheapest, smallest scanner I have found and both are important to me particularly the size . When you finally figure out how to use it, it is great.
Scan's true to color and very clear.
September 16, 2017
The product is excellent, and worked prefect. Scan's true to color and very clear. The only reason why I returned it was because of where the cord is, the plug for the cord is setup directly behind it the scanner, where the paper would scan thru. After returning it, I look at many other brands and notice that they all have the plug and cord setup the same way from the back. I will purchase this again, maybe when the company relocates the plug and cord to the side of the scanner and not where it's located now. Brother is an excellent product and great customer service too.
Quirky
April 6, 2017
Quirky. for the price it is OK. i would buy it again. It's touchy you have to have the program on, paper in just right or it throws errors.
Almost but not quite
March 3, 2017
I'm going to cut to the chase. This scanner is great for basics but here's what I didn't appreciate about it.1. Drivers were NOT made available by Brother. You will have to run an .exe in order to load the drivers instead of the .inf file being freely available. What does this mean? You are married to the manufacturer scan software instead of using a preferred software such as Windows Fax and Scan or importing into a graphics program.2. It installs as a portable device and a disk drive, not an imaging device.

June 23, 2016
I had an earlier version of this scanner but it would not work with Windows 10 so I replaced it with this one. The earlier version had better software in that after each page scanned you had to option to re-scan that page but this version doesn't give me that option. Also - and it may be just me - but when I am scanning full sized documents it is very difficult to get them to feed into the scanner completely straight and if they are not straight then it doesn't make a good scan. The paper guides are set at maximum spread and if they were not then the document would not fit in at all. I am not saying that it is impossible to get a good scan with a full sized document, but it is difficult.

My only issue with this unlike my old Brother DS600 is when you can't feed multiple small items and have them appear on one page. While it will autofeed if you are scanning say 3 checks and you want all 3 to appear on one page it will not allow for that. As soon as one is feed thru it stops and waits for the next item to be fed and puts each on a separate page. With my old DS600 I could scan the first check and the feeder would continue to run for about 15 seconds with nothing in the feeder and allow you to keep feeding the equivalent of an 11" sheet of paper so I could get 3 standard size checks fed in before its 15 second cycle ended and thus get all 3 checks appearing on a single page. Seems like the DS600 always assumes each item is an full sheet of paper and possibly calculates how long an 11" sheet takes and thus keeps the feeder going for that duration. The DS620 probably uses a sensor that detects if something is in the feeder and if not it halts the cycle until the next item is fed and assigns it a new page. Its a 5 star scanner for quality but I gave it 3 stars because it lacks an important function for my purposes.

Very bad quality

Very bad quality of pictures.
Not reliable
September 18, 2016
I bought this to use to archive family pictures on a trip to some relatives. It's totally unreliable. Bad crops and many times the auto feeder wouldn't sense a picture. Unless you have the time to check every scan before moving on, I'd suggest finding a different scanner.
Simply doesn't work most of the time
August 10, 2016
I am so disappointed in this scanner. I bought it to start a personal project to go paperless, and it has only added to my stress.WHEN it works, it's great (if you're okay with single-page scans). I've gotten it to work (in its dock, which is primarily how I'd like to use it) about 15% of the time. The other 85% of the time, it simply does not grab the paper and start scanning. I've tried charging it, turning it on/off, emptying the memory card, resetting the settings and ejecting it from the dock and putting it back in. My papers pile up and add to my stress. I'll be dumping this in a bed of sharp rocks and ordering a Brother.
Not good for photos
June 8, 2016
The VuPoint scanner may be great for documents but I ordered it for a faster means of quickly digitizing a mass of photos into my computer. Itdoes the job but not with quality, lots of streaking on every photo no matter what the resolution.
Like others have mentioned
October 26, 2015
Like others have mentioned, the microSD card wouldn't stay in, so I taped it while I tried it out. The wand actually scans really well, high resolution and it wasn't hard at all to keep a "constant" speed. Unfortunately, the tray feeder didn't work. It swallowed the paper (which is not the best user interface because if you don't feed the paper right, there's no way to stop it but way until it comes out the other end) and it sounded like it was scanning, but no file was saved. I decided to return it, but seeing the number of negative reviews I'm not sure it's worth re-ordering.
Good idea, but too many design flaws.
September 8, 2015
This scanner is a collection of funny design flaws. The scan results (after finally managing to scan something) are OK and what can be expected from this sort of device. However, the engineers must have had a lot of fun putting obstacles into the user's way.The scanner presents itself to the PC (or tablet) as a mass storage device when connected via USB. I personally find that a big plus since I mostly use Linux. This feature is why I gave it two stars. The downside of that is that there is no easy preview or any PC side control over the scanner's operation. All is done with the 5 buttons on the scanner and a very annoying sensor on the docking station. The 1.5 inch display is of course too small to judge if the scan is good, so there will be a loop of "scan, USB-connect, open-file, disconnect, scan, ..." for things, you want to get right. When using the "wand" part of the scanner alone (without the docking station), it automatically switches to USB mass storage mode when the USB cable is connected to a PC. It is impossible to scan with the USB cable connected. With a hand held scanner it is also impossible to tell where exactly the scan will start, end or how well it is aligned with the object. This means that this mode of operation (wand alone) is usable to scan larger than needed and later post process with some image tool that can rotate and crop. Or one can do quick and dirty scans of pages in a book or magazine that have no more quality than if they are taken with a good cell phone. In this wand only mode the "scan" button starts and ends scanning (as one would expect).Moving on to the docking station. The docking station can only operate when connected to at least a USB charger. It cannot be powered from the battery in the wand. Defying all intuition, when inside the docking station the "scan" button no longer starts/stops scanning, it now switches between scanning and USB mass storage mode. So how does one start a scan? By inserting the document! There is a little optical sensor at the right front side. When that is covered the user has two seconds to get the document reasonably aligned with the feeding mechanism because "ready or not ..." the scan will start. If not ready one can pull the document back out and the scanner will eventually notice it and abort the scan. This will lead to a fun little game that can only be described as "tug of war with a scanner". The tug of war is bound to happen because of three design flaws working together hand in hand here. 1) The two second timeout started by the optical sensor. 2) The rubber feeding rollers are at the very front edge of the slot where to insert the document with no guiding lips or anything. 3) The feeding slot is at maximum EXACTLY 8.5 inches wide. This scanner made me aware of the fact that LETTER size is not necessarily EXACTLY 8.5 inches wide. I have found utility bills, bank statements and the like with +/- 1/16th or more are quite common. Now combine this all together. Try feeding a document 8.55 inches wide into an 8.5 inches wide slot so that the edge over the whole width perfectly hits the center between two tiny rubber rollers ... you got two seconds ... tick, tock, "ready or not ..."Finally the software. Software? Oh yes, there is a coupon with a username, password and serial number to download some third party document management software - "a $99 retail value" they claim. I cannot it is or isn't worth that much since I didn't activate the license number. The installation process calculates a "machine signature" and then wants to activate the license number for this machine signature online. Most users probably don't think much about this sort of activation process because they are used to it from Microsoft and other big vendors. But think again. Who guarantees that the activation server, let alone the software vendor, still exists when in 2 years you need to reinstall that software on a new PC? And some software is definitely needed. I am used to be able to scan multiple pages into one PDF document. The "magic Wand" cannot do that on its own. Every scan is in its own file. I presume that (and other things) is the function of that "$99 value" software, but as said, I don't really know because I aborted the installation by rolling back the VM snapshot when I saw the "machine signature" part of the game.Hope this review helps someone.

Deep yellow tones
August 7, 2017
I was so excited to finally get a scanner that I hoped to use to scan lots of old photos. This scanner was easy to install and it certainly worked quickly. However, the photos as they appeared on screen had a deep yellow tone in comparison to the originals. There was an adjustment for brightness and contrast and neither one was helpful. I saved the photos I scanner to a folder on my external hard drive and took it down to copy a couple photos, hoping that it might be my screen. But it wasn't. They came out very yellow. Since my primary purpose was to scan photos for photo books, this will not work. Sadly, it is packed up for return.UPDATE: I immediately sent this printer back by UPS the day I packed it up. As of September 22, I am getting a notice saying they did not receive it. I have never had this problem before.
Bad hardware, worse software.
April 30, 2017
Frequently fails to scan a document because it says there is a paper jam (when there is no paper jam), and won't scan again until the cover is snapped open and shut.Often pulls paper in at an angle, and doesn't realign scan or properly trim blank space off side of document. The software is super janky on macOS. It has a terrible interface and often freezes.
Scanner worked fine. However
February 16, 2016
Scanner worked fine. However, I could not install the Nuance PaperPort software. I went to the Brother website. The troubleshooter said I needed to install MSXML 4.0 and provided a link to Microsoft's download page. I went there and the installer failed to work. As a result, I could not combine multiple scanned pages into a single document, which makes the scanner much less useful. I returned this and got the Epson Workforce DS-30. The DS-30 prompts you to scan additional pages when scanning so that you don't have to combine pages after the fact. A much better option, in my opinion.
Not fun. Also the settings are weird
January 22, 2016
The software is not as refined as I was expecting. There are a lot of - I wish it would...Also, I'm running Mac OS 10.10 - so I don't know about other systems.First off, you have to manually engage the scanner. I wish that the software would automatically engage upon sheet detection. Then if you want to scan another sheet - you have to (again) manually agree to it. Not fun. Also the settings are weird. The fit and finish is really lacking - considering that the scanner has to be connected to a full computer to work.
Crashed my MacBook TWICE
December 29, 2015
This is a review of the scanner, not the vendor. This scanner may work well with Windows systems, but it crashed my MacBook Pro twice! The problem is the software supplied with the scanner stick. We followed the installation instructions exactly. Each time we attempted to scan an item, the scanner was able to pull the document through without issue until about the last inch of the page. At that point, the scanner stopped and then the Mac crashed. This was gong to be a great helper for my work, but it is causing more trouble than anything. I can recommend this vendor for their quick shipping. I cannot recommend the Brother Scanner.
Too slow
April 24, 2015
I purchased this scanner hoping that I could use it to scan receipts and single sheets of paper easily. However, I had to send it back because it was so slow. It would stop part-way through a scan of a page and wait 10 seconds or more and then restart only to stop again. I seemed to be averaging about 2-3 pages per minute, not 8. The computer was also whirring away as though it was being overworked during the scanning. I tried doing all the things they suggested to optimise it, but gave up after a few tries and returned it. I will continue with the flat-bed Canon scanner I have instead - much faster and more options for adjusting the contrast etc. On the plus side it's a small, neat unit - shame it didn't work for me.

October 30, 2016
This scanner doesn't come with the memory card that is required to use. I ordered a memory card and when I inserted it the scanner still wouldn't work saying the card was full. When I selected "delete all files" it said that there were no files. This product is completely worthless to me as I can't get it to work. I would have preferred to pay more to have the memory card included. I've had this over a week now and can't even use it.

Must sat for a while came dusty and can't get it to work just sitting on my desk.
Consider an alternative brand when looking for a wand scanner.

Very disappointing. I had high hopes for it, but it broke on the first day after only 20 scans.

May 31, 2017
HORRIBLE SUPPORT. If you have a machine running Windows 10, 64 bit, I would RUN. I have spent multiple chats and phone calls trying to resolve my issues. The scanner scans - but WTF - where does it go??????? Not on my desktop where they assure me it is, not in their app, not in my neat program. They asked me to uninstall for the (seriously), 10th time. I AM DONE. Next stop is to blast them on facebook and twitter.

February 21, 2017
Advertised as being compatible with Windows, Mac, and Linux, this does not work with my Windows 10 machine, nor with my Linux machine. And yes, the Linux driver was properly installed. The XSane driver - provided by Brother on their website with detailed instructions for installation - doesn't even recognize the device is connected, though it works perfectly with a Canon flat-bed scanner.
Faulty feeder causes distorted scanned images
November 4, 2016
The scanner snags the right corner of my page, which causes the whole sheet to turn and slide warping the scanned image. I have to scan multiple times and pray that it will feed straight to get the pages scanned without distortion. Incredibly frustrating. Will have to purchase another scanner.
This thing is horrible. It won't scan anything

This thing is horrible. It won't scan anything, keeps saying the paper is jammed and to start over. I have tried more than one item and get the same result. I'm sending it back.
I figured that since it was a good deal I could overlook having to manually load papers
February 27, 2016
The price was right on this scanner so I bought it to help with decluttering and scanning business documents. I figured that since it was a good deal I could overlook having to manually load papers. Unfortunately, it takes about 5 minutes to scan one document and the automatic paper feeder is finicky and doesn't always like to read the document so a good amount of time was trying to get the paper to feed into the scanner. The application itself feels dated and after every 1-3 scans the program would crash my MacBook. Save your money and invest in a better, more pricey scanner.
Scanner stops mid-document.
November 22, 2014
So far this is the worst scanner I have ever owned. In the middle of scanning a page this scanner will stop scanning, save the part scanned so far, and then continue scanning. This results in multiple files for a single piece of paper. This happens even though the cropping size is set to a fixed 8.5x11" This happens regardless of whether the destination is PDF or JPG. The paper is not running up against the edges of the scanner when this happens. There is no error message.I have contacted customer support once about this and received some unhelpful suggestions. I currently have an email out to customer support. If they can't help me resolve this issue I will be returning the unit and purchasing another from a different manufacturer. In the mean time I would not recommend this to anyone.
