Five Star Reviews: | 55% The Absolute Best Coffee Ever!! January 6, 2017 Best coffee pot ever! After years of Coffee Makers that break down, warming plate rust out and need constant system cleaning. At Last the good old standard coffee percolator is again the best of all. This HB Percolator is super easy to clean and coffee taste better than any coffee maker. Stays hot all day! A true plus!! We do 10 cups daily and coffee is ready in 6 minutes from time it is plugged in. Can't say enough great about this. We will never go back to the old coffee maker version!!!! The only down side if any is that its a bit difficult to see the water level located under the handle. We use our old coffee maker glass pot to measure the correct amount of water and pour it into the pot. Makes great coffee fast, with no metallic taste! July 18, 2015 I got this to replace an older, failing percolator. So far, my household is very pleased with it!Pros:- FAST! Packaging stated <1 minute per cup, which we have found to be accurate- Makes GREAT coffee!- NO aluminum parts touching the coffee to ruin the taste! All parts of this percolator that come in contact with the coffee are stainless steel.- Glass knob, not plastic- Auto shut-off kicks in when the coffee (or hot water, if you're using it as an electric kettle) is ready, and goes into "keep warm" mode- Has a water-level viewing window in the handle- Ready light- No-drip spout really doesn't drip- No measuring grounds! Filter basket is pre-marked with fill lines for appropriate amount of grounds, from 4-12 cups.- Filter basket rests on a spring wrapped around the stem, which allows it to pop up slightly when lid removed for easy basket retrieval! LOVE this featureCons:- Did not come with power cord, but this may be because I purchased an open-box item that was used as an in-store display. Since it does use a standard 2-prong percolator cord, this was only a minor inconvenience.- Holes on filter basket are large enough to allow some grounds to wash through if not using a coarse blend ground specifically for percolators, or grinding your own beans. However, this is easily mitigated by use of a paper filter disk or wrap filter.Overall, I'm very pleased with this percolator! It's thoughtfully designed, makes great coffee with no metallic taste, and cleans up easily. Not very expensive, not top-grade materials, but makes good coffee in a few minutes! February 16, 2015 I ordered this coffee percolator, after the first one I ordered was not going to be delivered for about 6 weeks. It does the job.The manufacturing could be better - the materials appear thin and cheaply made, but it makes a great cup of coffee, fast!IMPORTANT: As another reviewer stated, what makes it work PERFECTLY, is to remove the spring, and stretch it out. THEN, the basket is pushed up against the lid, which means that the lid fits, the top of the basket does not spill grounds out into your coffee, and the percolator operates as it SHOULD!Seems the manufacturer could take a hint from the reviewers, and stretch out the spring before it is shipped to the customers. Great percolator -- Great coffee -- Easy to clean!!! January 9, 2015 This percolator is the best coffee maker I could find and purchased it replacing my automatic drip maker. If you think about it -- with any other maker, you are leaving water in or a wet coffee maker reservoir that you cannot clean or dry. This is a great warm wet place to grow bacteria. And then, you drink this mess in the morning. Not me! This is well made all Stainless Steel percolator with a glass lid so you can see the coffee color as it perks. It has a blue brewing light that turns green when it is ready to drink. A real plus is that it makes great coffee. The only problem you will have is finding "percolator-ground" coffee. I have a source of whole beans with a grinder that allows me to make course ground coffee for my percolator. I, also, bought 3/8 inch brushes to clean the 1/4 inch percolator tube. Twelve Cups of Coffee in Twelve Minutes March 5, 2014 We've been using a single cup "pod" coffee machine for a few years, along with a reusable metal screen filter. For those times when we want to make multiple servings at once, we purchased this percolator. This HB percolator is very solid feeling, and the glass top is a nice touch. Filling it with cold water, the full twelve cups is ready in twelve minutes. The coffee tastes great. The hole is large enough that I can put my entire hand inside for a good cleaning. I guess Mom knew best after all! December 15, 2013 I've had this now for two months and love it! I've been using drip coffee makers for 25 years. When my last one died only after a year I thought it was time for a change. I also have a french press and single serve Kuerig which or ok, but each have their own issues. I make coffee every day and bring it in to work in a travel mug. When using the Kuerig the coffee wouldn't stay hot for the whole 25 min ride. With the HB percolator, the coffee stays hot for the whole trip into work and then some. The coffee also tastes better than any of the other coffee makers I've had. The percolator is well made and easy to use. I love the clear locking top and fill level. I usually make about 6 cups in the morning and its been taking about 9 min consistently. When its done the light turns green to tell you its done so there's no guessing. If you grind your own coffee just be aware you'll have to adjust the grind to be a little coarser compared to the drip coffee makers. So far I'm very happy with this purchase. Well worth the money! | 66% Consistent quality in a time of disposable products and lives July 7, 2017 These do the job and the quality (size, thickness, etc.) is consistent, so you don't have one pot strong, one weak, one with grounds in it, one without, etc. This should be a given, but in these times, it's not. And coffee is expensive, so avoidable waste is inexcusable. Easy to use - Works as intended March 17, 2017 These are great for the percolators and you can't find them in most grocery stores anymore. The work as intended and came in bag where none of the discs were damaged upon arrival. It doesn't seem to leave any taste in the coffee and I prefer these over the just the metal or metal filters that are offered. People even reuse them, but for the price, I think it's a great product where you don't need to reuse them. Melitta Disc Coffee Filters October 5, 2016 I am so glad I found these. Stores do not carry them any more. I went back to a percolated recently. The filters do a great job. I do use one filter in the basket and one on top. This is because I use regular grind coffee. The paper is good quality and easier to use then the folded ones that come with the percolator. I will be buying more. "SOMEBODY IS GONNA GET FIRED!" September 24, 2016 I was very satisfied with this filter in my Faberware stovetop perculator. Seemed to be the missing link of my long sought after hot cup of coffee! This filter coupled with my other filter I purchased to go inside the Faberware filter setup was the gem i needed to significantly if not eliminate that crud at he bottom. I place this filter in the Faberware filter and slighlty wet it. Then I place coffee filter I purchased filled with coffee over that. Perculate and done. I now have HOT coffee without the mud. Perfect product for a Percolated cup of coffee or tea! July 31, 2014 Brewing coffee in a traditional percolator often leaves grounds floating about the mug or cup. This product filters the grounds from the the "cup o' joe" that you look forward to in the morning. These filters are perfect. They have a perforated area in the middle of the filter that accommodates the basket for brewing and will without doubt ensure that you have a cup of coffee or tea that is satisfying.....and you won't need a toothpick to remove the grounds from your teeth after enjoying your brewed libation. I recommend this product. Disc Coffee Filters January 26, 2014 We have been using perk coffee pots for many years and with the addition of this filter it keeps the grinds out of the coffee. It has a very, very fine filter. This is for those who really enjoy there coffee. Nothing like perked coffee. Many stores carry Mellitta coffee filters but the disc filter is not found in our grocery store. I guess it is not as popular since so many people are looking for the quick fix coffee. So one must order online. They are very inexpensive. We usually by 6 packages at a time. I am going to ask my local grocery store if they will add this item to their Mellitta line that is already on the self.If not we continue to order online. | 71% Well worth it! October 25, 2017 Perfect fit for the GSI Perk! This is well worth it because grounds still sneak into your coffee through the basket. Will buy again!!!! October 21, 2017 The filter fit my camping coffee pot perfectly. Made lots of pots of coffee and these filters kept the ground from getting into the pot. So happy to have found them. I didn't know filters like this still existed. Thank you!! Perfect October 13, 2017 Didn't even know these existed until I stumbled across them. Great idea. Works great at decreasing the grounds in the coffee. I say decreases, because it does not totally eliminate the grounds leaking, but it definitely reduces the amount to an absolute minimal. Will continue to purchase. Melitta 3.5 inch disc coffee filter September 26, 2017 Had old farberware electric percolator in attic we decided to use. Most coffee now is ground finer for drip coffee makers so a little sediment would be in bottom of pot. Put these round filters in bottom of coffee basket and have perfect every time in a couple minutes. perclator filters May 7, 2017 These filters really work great. I would recommend these to other percolator users. There are small and take up little space. Sized just right! March 20, 2017 Fit was perfect! Arrived with coffee pot and keeps me in perk heaven! Great product, made to fit and I am loving the coffee! | 41% Five Stars August 12, 2017 Just what we needed to stop grounds from getting into our coffee when camping. Great filter! May 24, 2017 These are great coffee filters for the little stove-top percolator! I hated cleaning out the basket and using the filters - so this is very convenient! And they last a very long time! Miss Leading and Junk May 20, 2016 This product is miss leading. Not made for a standard 12 cup percolator. Fits over the basket stem just fine but it is smaller than the basket No way you can make a full pot coffee and most of the water will miss the basket. JUNK Great addition to percolator August 1, 2013 I bought this to use with my Farberware Stainless steel Yosemite 8 cup percolator also bought from here. It fits the percolator perfectly and allows the use of regular coffee ground for standard drip coffee makers. It is a bit difficult to fill because of its small size (think of the filter size for a 4 cup drip coffee maker) due to the stem in the middle for the percolator but with careful aim it's very doable. I'm very glad I purchased this as it makes a great accessory to the percolator Excellent Filter October 5, 2011 UPDATE 10/13/2012: For those who are really put off by the size and effectiveness of this filter, I found a way to get an absolutely great tasting cup of java. Simply, brew the grounds in the percolator WITHOUT A FILTER, then sit the filter on top of your coffee mug (I have a 12 oz mug I got from here and the filter fits perfectly on it, just barely going down a little into the cup) and pour the brew thru the filter. It collects loose grounds and "sludge", and I read on one website, where it should also filter out the elements that might cause elevated blood pressure....according to a study at the website from (I believe) the University of Pennsylvania. After reading the reviews I did expect a small filter BUT this critter is teenie tiny! There is about an 1/8 inch gap between the filter and the basket in my 12 cup Presto percolator. If you use 3 heaping Tbps of coarse grounds, you can get some really good tasting coffee.Fortunately, I fix coffee only for myself and usually use only 3 (6 ounce) cups at a time. I do not believe you could make more than 5 cups of java at a time.It has its drawbacks (it takes a little extra time to clean in addition to being tiny) but the taste of the coffee (versus using a paper filter) is well worth it.UPDATE 11/17/2011: Normally, i use the coarse grind with my Presto percolator but I tried fine grind using this filter and it was great! I used the regular, paper disc filter also, and noticed a major difference....this filter produced the best taste by far. | 72% It's terrific. The coffee makers were dying after a year ... July 30, 2017 After years of expensive coffee makers, we brought an old time perculator. It's terrific. The coffee makers were dying after a year or two and the coffee was nothing exceptional plus we felt we could never really clean the parts that never see the light of day. The Presto peeculator is much less expensive and now uses a filter in or around the basket thence the old complaint of bitterness is history, beautifully smooth coffee in less time too. Two tools to clean spout and pot. What a surprise! Percolator Spout cleaner July 1, 2017 Got this when I was on a percolated coffee kick. Cleans the percolator where you can't get to it. Very useful brush for percolator owners May 22, 2017 Perfect brush for the center tube of my percolator. I was amazed how much gunk was clogging the thing even though I wash it after each use. Works for the spout as well but for the tube it fits snugly and does the job. Great product! April 3, 2017 Been looking for this for a long time, and happy to see it on Amazon. I use it every time I make percolated because I'm of the mindset that the secret to a good cup of coffee starts with an immaculately clean pot. I'm a coffee afficionado who was brought up on percolated coffee and not the drip one-time coffee makers. Great Product March 7, 2017 Works like a champ! It's long enough to get into the entire tube and get the gunk out. Cleaning a percolator tube January 11, 2013 I love my morning cups of coffe! After years of replacing my automatic drip coffee pots because of hard water residue - I bought a 4 cup percolator. It is wonderful be able to clean the pot at the kitchen sink without much ado, however, the tube is another story. The Delux Percolator, Spout & Tube Brush was just the answer. It is the perfect size, stiff enough, long enough to really clean the inside of the tube. The sturdy handle makes the job easier. |
Four Star Reviews: | 12% Yum! No regrets!!! *edit* Ok regrets.... March 23, 2017 This is my first percolator purchase... I would buy it again!I was looking for something that would replicate the coffee my great-great grandmother made me as a child. It had a strong aroma, lots of body and could put hair on your chest!!!! Low and behold, this did the trick. I've had numerous brands and types run through all great... I've over packed the basket and boy was it strong.... the under packed basket was ok. 1 and a half tablespoons per cup seems to do the trick. Now all my money goes to buying coffee, cream and pastries! Only wish there was an auto shutdown.*Edited to add* after 2.5 months, it stopped making the pig snoring noise and started to make a whimpering noise. So now, every few pots is weak as hell and I never can tell when. So buy with caution. Good, but flimsy construction February 2, 2017 I'm glad that the Hamilton Beach twist lid percolator is all stainless steel inside (although there are a couple of bolts fastening the handle). It is a good size, and pours easily. It is, however, really really cheaply made - the lid is very thin and edges are a bit sharp. Hoping it lasts awhile, but definitely be aware this isn't made like they used to be. Works fast! August 20, 2016 It got a little beaten up in shipping but not enough to bother with a return. It makes coffee really fast. I like that the lights are blue and green - no red. Also, I use a common drip filter - I just punch it down over the stem. This is a follow up to the my original review. I got this coffee maker in August and used it about once or twice a week through the fall, winter and spring until the beginning of June when it died this morning. RIP It was a good coffee maker up until the end. But I think I will try a different coffee maker to replace it. Well built and fast brewing October 26, 2015 We tend to "oscillate" between perc and drip style coffee makers, and so when our last drip model died we looked for a perc and bought this HB version. It is well made with only one little quality glitch that does not affect use - the lock/unlock icon on the lid doesn't properly line up with the indicator on the side of the pot. I just rotate until the lid finds it's place and then turn. The fill lines inside the pot are reflected in a built-in meniscus level indicator inside the handle. The unit starts heating up almost immediately upon plugging it in and quickly makes coffee in just a few minutes. The bright indicator light on the front is a nice feature that starts out blue and turns green when perc is completed and in warm mode. I expect that the pot will provide years of service delivering the aroma and taste that only a percolator can. If warranty matters...... October 14, 2015 This percolator served me well for 11 months before it failed. After paying Hamilton Beach Warranty $12 for handling I received a Deep Fryer. I notified them of the OOPS. I few days later I received the replacement percolator and the following day I returned the Deep Fryer via a UPS label they emailed me. I would expect the percolator to operate for more than a year, but I wish to let readers know I am pleased with the warranty process. I actually brought two percolators from amazon at the same time, the other is a Presto 02811 which I have been using since the failure of the Hamilton Beach. I deem the Hamilton Beach to be superior for two objective points - 1. a clear dome that allows to see the coffee as it percolates (you may not want to waiting until the brew cycle is complete before your first cup). 2. the indicator light illuminates blue when you plug it in (assures you that you do have power) and the same light glows green at the end of the percolating cycle ( let's me know the percolation as stopped and the pot is still plugged in or I should say "unplug the darn thing before I leave the house"). The Presto is working as it should and I have no negative opinions of it actually making coffee. This could have been a 2 star review had I not been for the Warranty Dept. Good product for the money June 15, 2015 I'm so happy to have a percolator again, I think they make the best coffee outside of a french press. The coffee is nice and hot, the perc is fast. The little water level indicator is handy. I like that the inside of the coffee maker is smooth without a lot of nooks and crannies that would make it hard to clean like my old ones. I'm not really thrilled by the length of the cord, though. It's very short, which is great for toasters and stationary devices, but for a pot that needs to be picked up and poured from it's inconvenient. I had to actually move where I usually put my coffee pot to a more inconvenient place in my kitchen just because my outlet was on the left side of the counter and the cord was too short for me to pour coffee with my right hand. I also feel that the percolator is loud, it's certainly louder than either of my old ones. It seems to be built well, and hopefully it will last as long as my ancient ones. I like the twist top, too. I feel it's more secure for the pour. Altogether, it's a good bargain, in my opinion. | 14% The percolator I was using wasn't brewing like I had expected November 6, 2017 They are filters. The end.Actually, I don't even know if these work ok. they are a little smaller than my percolator coffee well, but maybe it's supposed to be. The percolator I was using wasn't brewing like I had expected, so I gave up on it, so I'm not sure. The filters are good. However March 15, 2017 The filters are good. However, Please pay attention to the size. I can't use mine because they are too small at only 3.5". I didn't read past the "fits all percolators" which is a bit misleading. My fault though, I should have paid more attention. How could one size fit all models? The quality seems good though. They are... March 4, 2017 white, round, paper thin, has a small hole in the center and.........they fit my presto percolater. That's all the love you should need... There filters December 20, 2016 I ordered these for our camping kettle but I cant figure out how to work it, the coffee came out way too watery, weak, so I am sure these are great filters, there a good brand, I just need to figure out how to make my camping kettle produce awesome coffee. it seems a bit pricey for coffee filters but I ... November 18, 2016 it seems a bit pricey for coffee filters but I couldn't find this size at the local shop and there are a lot of them. I have used a few and the resulting liquids were free of detritus. It does what it says on the box. Probably should be cheaper. Needed to keep grounds out September 12, 2016 We purchased these for our new Coleman camping coffee pot. I must say they fit great inside the percolator. For the first time in years we didn't have ground in our coffee while camping! Very glad I bought these. | 13% A little overpriced.... November 4, 2017 Filters work fine, however just a little high in price. I can purchase filters for much cheaper. Good price and good quality October 14, 2017 These are good for the small percolator pot I bought. No real complaints other than the center holes are a bit difficult to pop open, and they're tight when you insert them over the stem of the pot. Not quite as easy to clean up as the square filters that you ... August 2, 2017 Works well in my Presto electric percolator. Not quite as easy to clean up as the square filters that you fold. Disc filters - okay July 22, 2017 It seems as if don't facilitate transferring flavor during the brewing process as well as the paper in other Melitta filters do but all in all they get the job done. I would like to have had a choice in paper used Helpful June 24, 2017 These work well to keep coffee grounds out of the coffee when using a percolator. Of course the grounds that get through the canister are few and settle to the bottom, so unless you are draining the percolator you can actually get by without them. Work well May 8, 2016 I'm using these with my Farberware Yosemite percolator. The coffee grounds cup is mostly closed on the sides and these filters fit flat on the bottom and do a good job of filtering out nearly all the grounds. | 12% Works good April 27, 2017 Works great. A bit small but grounds stay put and it sure is easier than paper filters to use. I was not totally satisfied using filter so I bought paper filters May 18, 2015 For me it is a dual purpose tool. I was not totally satisfied using filter so I bought paper filters. Trying to set the paper filters into the container was exasperating. So I use the filter to set the paper filter by pressing the reusable filter to press the paper filter so I can put the coffee into it. For me it was impossible to shape the paper filter properly, but by using the reusable filter it was a snap. It is perfect for the 6 cup version and the hole on ... August 1, 2014 It does it's job for my 6 cup perk and makes a strong brew. I would not use for a 12 cup perk. It is perfect for the 6 cup version and the hole on top can be resolved with putting something on top or just putting something on bottom to catch coffee the misses the container. It does not bother me as some reviews i read someone suggested putting a marble on top to load coffee....great idea. i have not tried that as i have no marble....just the ones i lost....LOL !! Filter February 3, 2014 It is smaller than the basket of my percolator, but it works. I like reusable filters and will reorder when needed. Didn't fit the Rapid Brew Percolator December 10, 2013 I haven't actually used this item because it didn't fit the percolator that I had. In fact it didn't go with it at all? It showed up at the bottom of the screen saying "frequently bought together" with the "Rapid Brew Stainless Steel Stovetop Coffee Percolator, 2-9 cup" that I bought.Luckily it wasn't expensive and I totally blame it on myself for not double checking, but still a little confused as to why this was recommended? time saver January 3, 2011 If you do not make your coffee very strong this is much easier to use than the wrap around paper filter. You can put about 5 scoops of coffee in it. This works out fine for 12 cups for me in my presto 12 cup percolator. If you like to make very strong coffee, use the wrap around filter. DISC FILTERS DO NOT WORK IN THE PRESTO 12 CUP PERCOLATOR.The basket leaves a little more sediment than the wrap around paper filter, so I did not rate it 5 star. In my presto I can just waste the last couple of ounces of coffee where all the sediment accumulates. If this basket was a little bigger in diameter more coffee would fit in it and allow the people who like very strong coffee to enjoy the easy use and clean up. It has limitations but I would buy it again because the wrap around filters are more hassle than I want every day when I make coffee. | 18% ... just what I bought it for and does a good job. It gets in small areas that you ... September 24, 2017 It does just what I bought it for and does a good job. It gets in small areas that you can't get anything else in. Great item January 23, 2017 Nice, glad I bought it…It helps clean the coffee pot where I couldn't do it! excellent March 24, 2014 cleand the percolator tube very well. I put soft scrub cleaner on the brush then clean and rinse.. I then put dish soap on the brush and clean and rinse to get the soft scrub residue off. You can see how much dirt is removed. Great Brush April 9, 2013 I have looked for a long time to find a Percolator brush that would fit in my percolator tube for cleaning the inside of the tube.. I came across this one and decided to order it, The brush work great ,anyone you uses the percolator coffee pot needs one as the tube really gets yucky inside. The company I bought the coffee pot from, recommended pipe cleaners ,I Knew that those don't work. In fact I will be ordering another one soon ( for back up). I thought shipping was a little expensive. |
Three Star Reviews: | 9% Some days coffee is very hot... other ... January 11, 2017 Some days coffee is very hot...other days just warm..Not sure what the problem is...But will use until the warm days outnumber the hot days...then in the trash it goes. Awesome coffee, but Extra short cord November 1, 2016 Makes an awesome cup of coffee, but the cord that comes with it is only 2 feet long. This is not feasible or workable in todays kitchens. I had to order a cord of another supplier. Contacted Hamilton Beach and they only send these mico short cords citing some safety issues, I had never purchased a kitchen appliance with a 2 foot cord! This is the only reason I rated it 3 stars. Heating element scorches coffee. May 11, 2016 I have had 4 of these percolators in the past few years. I love the coffee they make, when working properly, but I am barely getting one years use out of them before the heating element goes awry and they start scorching the coffee. Have decided to try the Presto percolator this time, and I'm also going to buy a carafe. I'm the type who will drink coffee all day on the weekends, so that may be why I burn the heating element up so fast. Lots of clean up April 2, 2016 Noisy. The pot grinds and rattles during perk - sounds like it is about to fly off the counter. The perk flings the ground all around and they end up inside the cooked coffee. When cleaning the basket and lid - the grounds are everywhere. I tried adjusting the height of the water and found that if I get too close to the opening of the spout inside the pot, then the ground are worse. The lower the water level the more contained the grounds are inside the basket. I even tried a basket filter and it doesn't make any difference. It is better than the pot I had, but I am disappointed. Makes a nice cup of coffee. Pleasant appearance, easy handling December 28, 2015 It is nice to have an indicator light and gauge for water level. Pours nicely without running down the side of the spout. The warming feature is good to have. The hole for filling is a bit small for mens hands. The biggest drawback is the bathroom noises that it makes when it is starting up...gurgling, coughing, spitting, passing gas, you know the noises. Very unpleasant if there are guests. The noises are exaggerated when the pot is sitting on a formica counter so I put a hot-pad underneath and that quieted it a little. But, it is still very noisy if you are up early and don't want to wake anybody else in the house. Cleaned easily with a rinse and wipe down. perculator February 13, 2015 There are other percolators. The glass top is nice on this one, for those who rnjiy watching the water bubble up, and change from clear to the "coffee" color.A nice pour spout, plastic bottom, seems sturdier enough, easy to clean. Perk up your mornings with a bubbly start at the sound of your morning Java perking.UPDATE: 2/12/17 I've since realized after many perks and as many week cups of coffee, first scoops do not correspond with the measurement markings. And the basket markings seem too small for the cup narkings., if one would fill the basket with grounds to 8 - corresponding with the 8 reading on the pot, oneceoukd rnd up with a weak unsatisfying pot of coffee. Lesson learned. Fill the basket to at least a marking above the amount of cups you think your making. | 9% Even better if they were made with unbleached paper March 10, 2017 Peculator filter allows coffee grounds to get into the coffee. Should be shaped as a pleated basket type of filter that's used for automatic coffee makers. Even better if they were made with unbleached paper. Not big enough for some percolators. August 28, 2016 Although these might work for some percolators, they don't in mine. They're not big enough to cover all the holes and grounds still end up in my coffee. I now use 6-8 cup basket style filters and they're perfect. it would probably have been better if it was more of a basket type for ... August 5, 2016 While although these filters prevent some of the grounds from getting through, it would probably have been better if it was more of a basket type for a stovetop percolator. Overall, they are helpful though with finer grinds They're fine but the regular drip style filters still do a better job July 30, 2016 I ordered these for my 12 cup percolator as I thought they seemed to be designed for that. I had been using the regular fluted, paper filters that fit in drip coffee makers. I thought these little round filters would work better since they already have the center hole punched in them. After using both though, I've decided to stick with what I had been using, (the fluted, filters for drip coffee makers) because they seem to do a better job and are less expensive. Yes, I have to push the filter onto the center tube but that's not a big deal. I find that it's much easier to clean the basket when I use the regular drip style filters. With the round ones, the grounds stick to the sides of the basket and I have to scrap them off with the side of my finger to get them off before I wash the basket. With the fluted, drip style filter, I just dump the entire basket into the compost container and the basket is ready for washing without any prep and no mess on my hands. Work but I don't like the taste of my coffee when I use them November 2, 2015 I got these to go with my Presto percolator, and they are perfect for it. The filters cover up the little holes in the bottom of the basket so no grounds get through. However, there is a slightly bad off taste to the coffee when I use these, and all I can figure is that it's because they are bleached. I pulled the stainless steel screen off my little-used 32-oz. French press and that fits great, gets the same job done, and no more bad taste. If you tend to be sensitive to slight differences in flavors, you might want to try that instead. Amazon sells two-pack replacement screens for the French presses, and I think the 4" is what you need. They Work March 4, 2015 These filters work ok. It's perk coffee, grit gets in. If you want total cleanliness, buy the bigger, clumsier filters that you have to spend a few minutes adjusting...otherwise, slap on of these suckers in there, grind yer beans & get to brewin'. There's nothing worse than spending excess time crafting the coffee making process when you WANT coffee. Wet the bottom of the strainer before dropping the filter in. | 7% I would have been happier with these filters if they had sides so one ... January 21, 2017 Sent our percolator back because he brew time was not long enough, so e coffee was weak compared to our drip machine. I would have been happier with these filters if they had sides so one could just grab and dump the grinds like on our #4 filters. We still had to clean the grinds out of the basket. They do the job of keeping grinds out of the coffee though. Not really needed but good product. October 10, 2016 I'm sure these work for someone but I found it a hassle to use them as well as for some odd reason, having more coffee grounds ended up in the peculator than when I didn't use them. The diameter of the discs were good. It completely covered the bottom of the basket. If you use a fine ground coffee, you may need to use these. Not the easy fix I expected January 24, 2016 I was a bit disappointed in these disc coffee filters. For one thing if my basket is the least bit wet it is almost impossible to get them into place without the filter bunching up. Also I expected them to keep all of the sediment out of my herbal teas and it doesn't; it's possible that the basket wasn't draining quickly enough and causing them to get pushed out the top, but I quit using them before I figured that out. Either way they didn't work for me. It was OK, but was hoping to filter out ... December 18, 2014 It was OK, but was hoping to filter out 90% of the grounds left in the pot and 100% of the grounds in a cup of coffee. It filtered out about 40-50% in a cup of coffee. Does filter some but not what I was looking for. Even tried adding a second filter on top of the grounds in the basket, but didn't seem to make much difference overall. I use a Presto percolator. Okay, but not great... November 9, 2014 After trying all the tricks (wetting the filter for a better fit, one on bottom and top, etc.), this product is okay. I still got grounds in my coffee. I will stick with the wrap-around style, readily available from the grocery stores. | 16% Good quality. A little short on height September 25, 2017 Good quality. A little short on height. Can't hold the coffee amount for a full pot without over flowing the grounds. I'm using a Hamilton Beach percolator. Good just smallet than 12 cup pot basket September 22, 2017 Smaller than the 12 cup coffee basket made by the same company I bought at the same time. Would rather it was the right size but works good just does not hold enough grounds for a full pot. Just half size of the basket. A lot smaller than my percolator basket; I only ... September 18, 2017 A lot smaller than my percolator basket; I only use for 1/2 pots of coffee (4-6 cups) or else the may overflow the basket. Napoleon Complex July 18, 2017 Too small for a 12-14 cup percolator. Comes nowhere near the size of the percolator basket. Therefore you can only perc, maybe 8 cups...maximum. A bit small... May 4, 2017 It's great quality only it's very small. And I wish it came in a 3.5 inch diameter.I couldn't for the life of me find the size of it when I purchased it but that could just be me. "Couldn't see for lookin" as my gorgeous Dad used to always say. Not a good fit for 10-12 cup percolators August 19, 2013 As other reviewers have noted, this filter does not have sufficient capacity for many 10-12 cup percolators. It would be nice if they offered more than one size. Also, I find that I have had to increase the amount of coffee I use in my percolator (an old Corningware 10-cup model)to get the right strength--I think it's because the filter is so small in diameter that some of the water misses the basket entirely during the perking process (Pouring a half a cup of the just-perked coffee back through the grounds creates a stronger brew, but who wants to do that every time?). People with other makes of percolators may not experience this problem. If I could control the length of the perking cycle this problem might be resolved, but I can't. With coffee so expensive, it's aggravating to have to use more!I used to have a wonderful old percolator (I think it was a Presto)that had both a fine in-spout strainer and an adjustable strength setting. It kept the grounds out of my coffee and I could control the length of the perking cycle. I wish they still made it, because it made perfect coffee with any grind. | 5% It's likely useful for hanging it up to dry or for storage November 1, 2016 Whatever you do, don't cut off that white tassel. It's likely useful for hanging it up to dry or for storage. Three Stars March 4, 2015 Works perfect for the tube inside my percolate coffee pot! Will help my coffee pot maintain it's newness... Not really necessary. August 25, 2014 Not really sure the purchase of this was necessary. I think rinsing the coffee put through with warm soapy water works just as well. Maybe it's useful once a year. |
Two Star Reviews: | 8% because I like decaf, and one for husband who likes full ... April 4, 2017 Beware! I am adding a new section to this review. Just heard from Hamilton Beach that they won't do any product support on anything bought on Amazon because we don't have a paper receipt--they don't accept the emailed transaction. Here is a copy of their response:HB: Unfortunately, we are unable to accept a copy and paste as proof of purchase. If you are able, please attach a copy of your receipt in a reply email or fax it to my attention (Jess W.) including your name, first and last, at 910-693-4246.Please do not discard your appliance. Please be sure to include your original email when responding. Thank you again for contacting Hamilton Beach Brands, Inc. We look forward to further assisting you.Jess W. Consumer AffairsBought two of these...one for me, because I like decaf, and one for husband who likes full test. One works beautifully. The other never fully percs the coffee--after light turns green, there is just slightly brown water in the pot, and it tastes like it looks--too weak to be anything useful. Trying to get this defective pot replaced, however, is proving to be difficult. If you are lucky to get a pot that works...you'll love this. If you get one that doesn't--like we did--you won't be a happy customer. then you'll love this. Beyond the annoyance of all the cleaning June 26, 2016 There's a reason that technology marched on...if you want the retro "fun" of dissembling the pot and cleaning it's 5 separate pieces, yes 5, then you'll love this. Beyond the annoyance of all the cleaning, frankly the coffee is just not that good. It totally lacks the depth and richness of a good brew. Make it stronger you may think. I did too, but that just made a bigger mess and didn't improve the flavor at all.My grandma loved her old percolator, but that's just because she never had a modern machine. Excellence defeated March 15, 2016 The percolation is excellent. The glass dome spreads the water over the top of the filter basket with excellent coverage. This increases efficiency in terms of potency per unit volume of coffee grounds. The heating element heats up to percolation temperature faster than my older perc of the same class and sure enough, completes the percolation cycle a minute or two faster. The filter basket strain openings are relatively large compared to my older perc of the same class. It’s hard to describe but with my older West Bend, they are tight slits that you could barely get a hair through. With this unit they are more like apertures that you could easily put a sewing needle through. More grounds get through and the brew is muddier. No problem for me. I was going to use the basket from my older perc since it’s the same size, shape, form and fit all around except for the strain slits. Otherwise I would have had to consider paper filters or sending it back.In addition to the usual huffing and puffing and rumbling and roaring sounds you would expect from a perc of this type, this one adds some slurping and popping sounds at the outset of the perc cycle. I believe this is just due to temperature inversions between the water and metal while the heating element heats up relatively quickly while the water is cold. The slurping and the less-often popping subside and ultimately cease after just a minute or two.The glass top is excellent. The lid is composed of an old-school Pyrex-type dome-like glass top fused to a stainless steel base with silicone adhesive/sealant or something like that. Spreads the water over the top of the filter basket with excellent coverage. The status indicator is excellent and state-of-the-art. As opposed to how it appears in the picture, it’s actually a crystal-clear lens over very bright LED’s. These are not color-filtered white light. These are a pure green light-emitting diode and a pure blue one that are more or less invisible behind the clear external lens when off. Comes on one color (can’t remember which) as soon as you plug it in and remains so thru perc cycle. Switches to other color as soon as perc cycle ends and stays so for as long as it remains plugged in.The AC power receptacle on the perc is excellent. It’s the old-school widely spaced pair of cylindrical prongs. The mating plug on the cord is Bakelite-bodied! I haven’t seen one of these in decades if my recollection is correct. Amazing. There were some poor manufacturing qualities and flaws that didn’t bother me too much. The indentations on the inside of the rim to accommodate the lid-locking are flat, cold-pressed into the steel rather than hot-formed/contoured. Center post of basket was a little out of plumb vertically so as to require jimmying to get the basket lid to get seated all the way. Was afraid to try to straighten it for fear of breakage. Distinct very small off-color spot on the pot exterior that I think is either a piece of slag that was rolled in to the steel when it was rolled or else a solder patch to fix a nick or gauge. No biggies. The bottom is a somewhat thin layer of some kind of plastic or polymer. It’s not Bakelite but fair enough. Here's the kicker. It took me a while to figure this out, but the bottom line is that the stand-off extrusions you see in the picture on the bottom of the base, were gone. It was plain to see where they were and that they had been machine-milled off. It is not for looks that these are needed but to provide ventilation needed to prevent overheating underneath. They were milled away flush to the surface of the base ring. The cavity up underneath would have shallow enough to begin with! Without the stand-offs it’s even shallower AND the contact with the counter-top is now an unventilated solid ring. That’s why, when it sits there for an hour or two, the bottom gets incredibly hot as does the counter top. A lot of water condensation as well. The longer it sits, the hotter this gets. The heat build-up is bound to eventually damage the counter-top surface. In the case of formica, it’s bound to eventually warp and de-laminate it. It’s also potentially a safety hazard. This appears to be a mfg or post-mfg retrofit that couldn’t possibly have been product engineering-approved.This was a Hamilton Beach-branded percolator, model #40614, serial #A2451BW, mfd in China by Intertek. The slogan on the product box, “Good Thinking”, is easy to say (but what isn't?) Leaked pretty bad, returned it March 11, 2016 Nope. Filled this thing up right out of the box with straight water to run through before using. It all started leaking out of the reservoir window, at the bottom, and not just a drip either. Leaked pretty bad, returned it. Coffee from an old fashioned percolator personally seemed to taste better as I recalled when younger, in college in the 70's. Recall as a kid my parents had one, pre- auto-drip era, but it seems they don't make them as well today, not like an old Corning Ware the folks had growing up. This one looked pretty cool, but cheaply made, as a lot of appliances are today. Cannot recommend this one. Sorry Hamilton Beach. Glass top was chipped and there is no need for the manufacturer to use plastic in the lid under the glass dome but rather get a December 19, 2015 I purchased this after mixed reviews and understanding that it was at a much lower price point than my previous percolator that had stopped working. I found the workmanship of the product to be that of which is in the price point. There are sharp edges on the spout and inside the lid. Glass top was chipped and there is no need for the manufacturer to use plastic in the lid under the glass dome but rather get a better design. The finish on the outside was random and an excessive amount of scratches that looks like from poor handling. As some have said, it is somewhat difficult to fill with water and see the marks. Now for the taste test. It does get hot enough for myself, however that taste is just, well, terrible. Or saying there is no taste. Basically like warm water. I used 12 scoops for 12 cups and nothing. My drip machine makes a better cup. As others also have said, another foot on the cord would be an improvement. Not sure if Amazon will take this back but going to try. Not Working for Me May 5, 2015 Agree with others that this percolator is sleek and pretty but that is all. It stopped making coffee after 4 months of use. I sometimes get coffee out of it but it is extremely weak coffee, most times it just makes hot water, no coffee. In my opinion it is not a 12 cup machine. Whenever I made more than 8 cups it was a mess. Grounds flowed into pot. 8 cups and under it was fine. The percolator gets extremely hot so removing the grounds before pouring requires heavy duty hand protection. If you don't empty the grounds you will get them in your coffee. I tried the filters and they just made the grounds overflow. All in all, too much work to get coffee made and poured and unreliable. Maybe I got a dud! | 4% Don't waste your money. December 31, 2016 Nothing but a little flat disc of paper. Standard Mr. Coffee filters work muck better and at less cost. Fair December 30, 2016 Almost does the job. I'm not really sure if it is much better than the percolator basket. Grinds March 2, 2016 I prefer to use a wrap filter versus this melitta filter reason being, this filter always seems to leaves some coffee grinds in my Coffee. However, I do use it on emergency basis You will have coffee grounds in your coffee with these May 22, 2015 These allow coffee grounds to get in the coffee but at least they are easier to use than the wrap style coffee filters. I'm probably going to have to order another package of these and just keep my strainer next to the coffee pot. This Disc puts grounds in my coffee. April 1, 2014 When i use this filter. no matter how careful i am, Installing it, Filling it, and brewing it. Every time i get coffee grounds in the coffee. Perc on medium low. I started using regular automatic drip coffee filters instead. I find it works better. Just poke a hole in the center of it. the filter walls stand just above the percolator basket. I just fold them down over the basket wall, fill with coffee grounds. the basket lid will hold the filter walls up when you install it. I get no coffee grounds in my coffee like that. Not as Adavertised March 8, 2014 Let the Buyer beware that despite this Manufacturer's claim, which is printed right on the product package - "Fits ALL Percolators": It does NOT. These filters are too far under-sized to be effective on my standard-sized basket in my Coleman camp coffee pot. These filters leave 10-15% of the basket bottom uncovered, and vulnerable to grind flow-by.This Manufacturer needs to specify the exact dimensions of the filter on the package, and exactly what size basket they are intended for.I have no complaints with the Seller who delivered the product AHEAD of the scheduled Delivery date, and in a well-packaged envelope. | 3% Messy May 27, 2016 These filters work but the ones that wrap completely around the coffee grounds work much better and are worth the extra cost. These tend to leave a mess and more required clean up. Don't drain well April 3, 2016 Melitta coffee filters, After acquiring a percolater for brewing daily coffee, I quickly realized that I needed to have filters to keep the coffee grounds from getting into the coffee. These fit perfectly, and are convenient and are priced decently. So I purchased these with expectations that they would do the job. While they may help to keep some grounds out, vs not having any filter, they I still end up with grounds in the coffee, and a mess of grounds all over the filter. Thankfully the grounds do sink to the bottom of the coffee pot or cup.I think these are made too thick, not letting the coffee run through very well. I've attempted making a smaller pot with less water, and added less coffee grounds. Still the problem remains, where the basket gets too full, and not draining well. I've had a hard time deciding on how to rate these. While they may be helpful, they still aren't doing their job well. I honestly have better luck tearing up and using simple paper towels. These filters do not fit the KRUPS KM4689 Moka Brewer ... October 27, 2015 These filters do not fit the KRUPS KM4689 Moka Brewer Filter Coffee Maker correctly. They are designed for stove top brewing. However, they help emptying the ground coffee out of the filter after brewing. | 11% Too small June 27, 2017 Too small to work in a full sized percolator unless you only want 3-4 cups of coffee. Nice filter but... April 21, 2016 Since it was "frequently bought together" with the GSI 14qt coffee I was buying, I picked one up, however.... It does not fit in the coffee pot....ugh. It may just be GSI, but you've been informed. It's to tall and diam. is a little small, and lid won't close. Paper filters work ok. Pain to return, but how would you know until you try to put it in ..?? Should clarify better which pots it will (or won't) fit. No more grounds, no more flavour October 18, 2015 This product does a perfect job in keeping your cup of coffee free of grounds. Sadly, in doing so it destroys the flavour, and you need to add a lot more coffee to the filter to get it anywhere near the desired strength, but it still lacks flavour. I have decided that I prefer my coffee to be strong and full of flavour, albeit with a few grounds at the bottom, rather than weak and tasteless but free of grounds. Therefore my Perma-Brew 3 Year Re-usable Coffee filter has been cast aside after just 4 days of experiments. Not that good February 4, 2014 The filter is poorly sized for the stovetop coffee pot I purchased from Amazon. The water flows over the top allowing grounds to mix with the coffee. However, if you keep the flame low enough to perk the coffee very slowly, you can get better results. I used to cut a hole in a paper filter to fit it over the coffee pot stem. That worked better, but some people claim that coffee filtered through a paper filter loses some of the oils that help improve the taste. I've tried it both ways but my taste sensors can't discern a difference. Still, this reusable filter isn't so expensive that most people can't give it a try. Makes the percolator lid pop off December 18, 2013 I ordered this reusable coffee filter along with my Farberware 4-cup percolator. At first, the two worked well together, but within a week or two of use, the lid of the percolator flew off during brewing; coffee shot and splattered all over the countertop. I wasn't sure what the problem was since both were brand new, but after it happened a few more times, I tried a disposable disc filter and it hasn't happened since. The filer isn't made by Farberware, so it's not fair to assume that the two would work together perfectly, but I give it two stars, at least for that combination; it doesn't always make the lid pop off, but a few times is enough, considering the mess and the risk of burning passersby. washes out some of coffee flavor November 24, 2011 This coffee filter for percolator is a good idea to put the ground coffee from the grinder or bag to the pot basket without spilling in it when you put the basket inside the percolator. The problem with this filter is that is very small and will take only just enough coffe to make about only 6-8 cups in a 12 cup size percolator. If you want to make 12 cups.. well, you can't. The main "but" is that it washes out the coffee flavor and oils that make coffee a good cup of coffee. Best is Putting the grounds directly in the percolator basket will be fine with just a little bit of fine grounds in the pot when coffee is brewed. Coffee will be more flavorful and with more body. Using the filter will create a double mesh for water to go through that will result in a "watery coffee" flavor. The best way to get good coffe( to my taste) is not using the filter, instead I put the grounds straight in the percolator basket and when cleaning the pot will be ok ... and less messy than the filter.Filter Is an option to use to avoid some accidental spills in the percolator pot and with no fine grounds in it, but it will compromise the final result in coffee quality and : Flavor! | 3% Percolator brush May 9, 2017 What a disappointment - you are wasting your time with this little brush. I would not order again. Don't order. Spend the money on good coffee beans instead October 28, 2016 Effective enough, but not necessary. The percolator tube doesn't accumulate much. Spend the money on good coffee beans instead! Disapointed June 13, 2016 This was made for the "Mr. Coffee" type of coffee makers. It is pretty useless for myperculator. Cleaning brush September 18, 2015 I was hoping the bristles would be longer and not as stiff so they would clean the spout. It does work great on the tube. I like the long length and T handle. |
One Star Reviews: | 16% Second coffee pot in 4 months and it dies again. April 26, 2017 Since I had to click on at least one star, It will only be for the looks of it and there are no stars for it's performance. We went through 2 of these units in almost 4 months. Always a burnt wire smell. Always coffee tasting burnt near the end of the pot. And almost always poor peculation and we often end up with light coffee at the beginning of the pot. The first time it was replaced by Amazon without a problem. Now this time we have to go through Hamilton Beach and have to pay for shipping for a replacement I don't want anymore. Going to call them back now and beg them for money back. Do Not Buy This Thing! Produces weak "coffee" more like brown water January 13, 2017 I take back my positive review. Had 1 good cup of coffee the everything after was weak brown coffee water. I tried different coffee and filling the basket with grounds but it still made weak "coffee". I am returning and trying the "presto" brand, hope that turns out better. Stops working May 7, 2016 Worked great for about a year and then stopped perking more than about a minute and says it's done but the coffee is not even close to being brewed, just tan-colored water. It originally perked for about 8-10 minutes the way an electric percolator should and made great coffee, now when you plug it in it perks for maybe a minute and clicks off saying it's done and it's clearly not. Do not buy, buy the Presto, they last forever and make perfect coffee everytime for many many years. Poorly Designed February 17, 2016 I purchased this percolator after my Farberware percolator died after 25 years of use. This percolator has a design flaw that pushes the coffee grounds out the top of the basket. I experimented with paper filter discs on the top and bottom of the grounds without much success. Lately I have been using a small strainer when pouring into a cup. I cannot recommend this product and will buy a replacement soon. Downgrade January 29, 2016 Update and downgrade from 5 stars. The percolator constantly percs. It's a shame really, but in line with almost anything made today. Our parents and grandparents didn't have to deal with product obsolescence like we do. Everything seems to break down. I'm very disappointed. PIECE OF JUNK DONT BUY July 21, 2015 Piece of junk. I purchased this maching and 130 days in it failed. The heating element burned out and I had to call to get it replaced. Hamilton Beach wanted me to pay $10 shipping for a new unit. I told them that is ridiculous and had to fight with them over the cost. They eventually agreed to ship me a new one, which will probably be another piece of junk. The best percolator I ever had was a Mellita but it also burnt out after 3 yrs. DONT BUY THIS ITEM IT WILL ONLY INFURIATE YOU | 7% Would not recommend. January 5, 2017 Seems that I have a lot a grounds in my coffee. I think it makes the coffee ground holder overflow. Would not recommend. work better than these November 4, 2016 The regular filters that I used with my Mr Coff. work better than these, just push down on the middle and the pot stem. These are not big enough . Wish I would have thought of that before I spent the money on these. Pass On This One September 26, 2016 They advertised that it fits all perculator type coffee makers. Hardly. It's useless for the very good one that I have. Wasted money. Hate them. September 19, 2016 What a rip. That's all I have to say besides the fact that I can get whole ones cheaper. Not sure if it's our coffee but these don't make ... September 22, 2015 Not sure if it's our coffee but these don't make any difference in our pot at all we still get grounds and silt at the bottom. Worth a try though I'm going to grind the coffee a bit larger next time. | 6% Stupid Purchase. October 26, 2017 Stupid to buy these filters when the standard coffee filters work better. Love our coffee pot August 21, 2017 Love our coffee pot, however this items is not do anything to reduce the amount of ground in our coffee do not bother August 6, 2017 not that great. buy a number 2 cone filter and put a small tear in the bottom. works better horrid July 14, 2017 thin and chinsy i could even bother returning it i threw them out - the second they touched the pot it disintegrated Suggested by Amazon April 3, 2017 These filters were paired with the Presto percolator I ordered. Not sure what they are filtering, but I'm getting a lot of grounds in my coffee. | 20% Too Small to Work October 14, 2017 My coffee pot basket is exactly the size indicated on the package. This filter is much smaller in diameter. In addition, the opening for the stem of the basket is too small, so this filter will not fit down into the basket. Totally unusable. Not Useful August 27, 2017 This filter will not work in most percolators. The problem is that the filter is a smaller diameter than the basket and it sticks up too high so that you cannot put the lid back on the basket. The basket lid would also make a lot of the water go outside of the filter instead of into it. It would be good if it fit tighter and had a top cover January 10, 2017 Too small, doesn't fit out to wall of percolator coffee holder. Coffee grounds don't stay in filter and you still get sediment in your coffee. It would be good if it fit tighter and had a top cover. If you use a lot of coffee to make a large pot of coffee or strong coffee his will not hold it. Needs improvement. I used it once and went back to paper filters. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY September 26, 2015 DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY. It is an amazon recommended item with almost all electric percolators. But, the filter can only hold enough coffee to make 7.5-8 cups. It is recommend with all the 12 cup percolators but it only is about half the height of the grounds holder. It does not work with any 12 cup coffee makers. Shame on Amazon and the coffeemakers like the Hamilton Beach 12 cup percolator that I brought. SHAME SHAME on all the deceitful sales you have made money on. Too small for 12-cup percolator September 27, 2012 We bought the Presto 12-cup Coffee Maker (percolator) and purchased this filter as suggested in the product listing. The filter is tiny. 3" diameter. 1.5" deep. The percolator basket is 3.75" x 2.5"If we put in only four heaping teaspoons of coffee, some grounds go over the edge of the filter and find their way into the coffee. We ended up getting a refund for this filter. We tried the paper filters included with the percolator, but they are a cumbersome mess. Square filters don't work well in a round basket. In case anyone at Amazon reads this, please find a larger, reusable filter to include with the Presto percolator. | 2% It blew up, January 26, 2017 It blew up , it was the wrong voltage which was not clear when ail bought it I live in Australia |
