Good value, fish seem to love it
September 23, 2017
My redtail shark and platinum green tiger barbs go crazy for the Tetra 16162 TetraColor Tropical Flakes, 7.06-Ounce, 1-Liter. I've been feeding them this, with some other foods for occasional variety, for several years and they're all healthy, active, and full of color. One container lasts me for months and months. Recommended.
Awesome food
August 29, 2017
I love the price and apparently the fish love the taste. Beats purchasing from the pet store. The container was much larger than I expected it to be which was a nice surprise. Good all around food for my community tank and my cichlid tank - fish are happy and healthy.
Fish food . . . Nom Nom Nom
March 13, 2017
I bought the 7.06 oz. It is a lot of fish food. I would not recommend this size for a small tank since it would last a long time. I have a BIG tank with LARGE fish, so this container worked out perfectly. All of my fish ate the flakes and continued to grow and stay healthy, so no complaints.
FANTASTIC!
March 10, 2017
Amazing flakes, incredible value! GIANT container for a great price and my fish love it. I notice a significant increase in their color, activity and even a reduction in their usual amonia/nitrite production... overall fantastic product, happy fish and even for my picky eaters! Awesome qauilty flakes!
Pet stores smell bad. This is easier.
November 17, 2016
Just like what you get at the pet store... without having to actually go there.Nice sized flakes that float long enough to get eaten. My water stays clear even when my kids accidently dump too much in.
It's a good fish food.
January 5, 2015
My fish like it and that's what counts. (Though to be honest they'll eat pretty much anything that hits the water and even peck at me when I reach into the tank.) I've never had a problem with Tetra products and especially the Tetramin line. I've used it for decades now and I've never had an issue. My fish's diets are supplemented with frozen and freeze-dried foods too so they aren't totally dependent on flake food, but this is a good food. I'm not sure how much it supplements the color, but once again I'm not using it exclusively, so maybe that matters.

All the African cichlids love this food except for the Flowerhorn. The Flowerhorn will spit it out maybe because he likes his "Heads Up Hauncher" food better.
Best yet, my fish are still alive and kicking.
September 24, 2017
I had originally purchased the flake version which tends to float on the surface of the water which is great for those that feed more on the surface, but not so much for mid-ground feeders. This granule version seems to work well in that it does stay on the surface momentarily, sinks slowly, and lands on the aquarium bottom. With both the flake and granule version, I have not experienced any clouding/discoloration of the water.Best yet, my fish are still alive and kicking.
Work well. and the fish like them
September 3, 2017
I like um. I wanted sinking pellets for the orandas that are in my tank and my other large fish that I'd rather not get air in the tummy. These work great and the fish like um.
Cleaner tank, Happier fish
August 7, 2016
The fish love it. I have several red tailed sharks and several dozen guppies. They swarm like piranhas when its feeding time. The granules of food are semi buoyant. I have noticed this particular food doesn't cloud the water much compared to flake food.
NOT FLAKES!
July 26, 2016
Accidentally bought these thinking they were flakes, so be careful you're not trying to buy something that will float! These sink and sink very quickly. We have a couple bottom feeders, so we'll use it eventually.. but that was my mistake! We always buy TetraColor for our fish tanks. It's just so expensive in stores. The Amazon price is really really convenient.
My cichlids don't seem to enjoy the floating pellets of any size
December 3, 2015
My cichlids don't seem to enjoy the floating pellets of any size. But these sinking granules is the bee's knees. We are talking feeding frenzy when they hit. They scour the gravel bed for the survivors and what they don't find, my fiddler crabs devour like it's their last meal. The 2 plecostomus grid the ground feeding on the algae tabs as last resort.Seriously though, I haven't had a fish or crustacean that doesn't eat these granules immediately. I have fire mouth cichlids, bolivian rams, a texas cichlid, a 4 inch koi (for cleaning purposes), 4 fiddler crabs, a common pleco, a rubber lip pleco, and some danios. Naturally I have other feeds for each fishes diet, but these granules are great for entertaining company and most importantly I believe it makes your fish more social when you make sure and feed them a little every day.

Fish gobble these flakes
April 16, 2017
I don't know about color enhancement, haven't seen a change. But, my fish gobble them up. No left over food. No complaints.
Happy healthy fish!
June 13, 2016
We have been feeding this food to our fish for months. They are healthy and bright. All of our fish take to it right away and swim eagerly to the top to eat it. Our water never clouds and we have great water quality. I don't feel that this food alters the water chemistry much at all if some sinks to the bottom. It does a decent job floating however and sinks slowly after it breaks the surface so the fish usually get it all before itl ands on the gravel. Our catfish even likes to try to swim up and grab some of it even though we feed him his own bottom feeder food as well. We are happy with this purchase and the size it comes in. We only have to buy fish food every 6 months or so for the 7 fish in our 35 gallon tank. Good buy!
They'er still alive so I guess they like it.
March 10, 2016
My fish seems to enjoy these flakes no one has any complaints yet. I decided to try TetraColor to enhance the color of my fish. Prior to purchasing this product my fish were eating Omega one which is a very good product but it's a bit pricey. The Tetra flakes float well and the fish are quickly attracted to it. I have not had any water quality issues all water parameters have tested normal. So far I have not seen a noticeable difference in their color but time will tell.
Great value for the size but it doesn't improve the color of your fish
November 29, 2013
This was the best deal I could find on size v price when looking online and our tropical fish love it. This size will probably last the fish in or 29 gallon tank a long long time. The product states that it will approve the color of your fish in the many many weeks of using this food exclusively I have noticed no difference in fish color. I can confirm that these to leave the fish tank water clear though, there's no bleeding of color in to the warm water. Also, in case it it is important to someone these flakes themselves are rather large, too large in fact for the small fish in our tank so I break them up with my fingers before dumping them in the tank
Package is 2.2 oz, not 2.75
February 2, 2012
Not sure if I should post this here, as there is no problem with the food itself--my fish love it. However, the title states that it is a 2.75 oz container, but what arrived (and what is actually shown in the product image) is a 2.2 oz container. I did not return it (not worth the hassle), but hopefully they will fix this. The last bottle I bought (from Walmart, not here) had a "Bonus 25% more" so it actually WAS 2.75 oz. I think what happened is the company stopped doing that, but they have not adjusted the title here.

Discus like it.
March 14, 2017
My discus like this and their colors are great.I have been feeding it to them for a year so in the long term I have not seen any issues beyond the fish's waste coloring the Purigen in my filter orange. It is not a big deal because if you use Purigen you already know it bleaches out just fine.

September 15, 2016
I use this on my glitter angelfish tank and they seem to really enjoy . The geophagus and loaches also seem to like these granules. The food sinks fast, which is important since I have a lot of water circulation in the top water columns.
I try not to limit our fish to one type/brand of food but this is the main staple and all fish/shrimp we've had seem to like it,
May 10, 2016
From goldfish to guppies to discus - I've feed them all with this granule. It doesn't cloud the water - our fish likes them. I'm not sure if it enhances their color but we've raised some baby discus with this as the main feed and they thrived. I try not to limit our fish to one type/brand of food but this is the main staple and all fish/shrimp we've had seem to like it, it's fairly inexpensive without losing in quality.
Great product, pours quickly.
April 19, 2015
Fish are happy, so am I.Feeding guppies & swordtails living together in a horse trough, they like it fine and seem healthy.Accidentally spilled a bunch when trying to pour a small amount out for the fish. Next time I would poke small holes in the aluminum packaging rather than opening it, to make it easier to shake the food out.
Discus love this stuff
October 18, 2013
My Discus love this food. They are well fed and healthy. Would give it 5 stars but some of the granules in my last batch were very small and they only really went for the larger granules. I usually see a small amount at the bottom of a batch, but this had some throughout. Not too much to be a serious negative though.

Nice fish food! My fishes likes it a lot. The downside is that the food turns my aquarium water to a brownish color fast in just about five days.

It's fish food, alright.
January 31, 2015

November 26, 2014
This is a different brand that I went across town to buy. But the fish are still eating it. I guess its okay.
It's a classic staple...but it's got it's issues
August 11, 2014
The fish like it, but it really doesn't float well at all. Any disturbance at the surface of the water (from a bubbler, etc, or god forbid a fish splashes...) and the food just falls to the bottom. It likes to get wrapped around silk plants and can start a lovely red slime issue if you feed too much and/or your fish won't "clean up" fallen food. It's a classic, staple food, but it could use a little backbone...we need a thicker flake that floats like a small floating pellet can. I'm sure they can figure this out after all the decades of practice. Meantime, it's an almost unavoidable staple feed, so just be sure you have Cory cats or other bottom feeders to help clean up the mess.

I think my fish (gourami and tetra) liked the crisp style better
November 13, 2015
I think my fish (gourami and tetra) liked the crisp style better. This stuff sinks fast in comparison- I'd recommend spending the extra dollar or two. You do get a lot of food and it works well with an auto feeder, so maybe a mix would do fine too.
Very very thin pieces of food
August 1, 2015
I understood it wouldn't be pellets but when it hits the water the food fly's everywhere and is a chaotic haze of red pellets. My fish really don't enjoy eating this as I have to dilute it with real pellet food of the same brand and they will. I have 9 fish of varying species along with 2 large Pleco's but no one will eat just this.

Ollie the betta does not approve of this purchase
March 26, 2017
I read that betta fish could eat this but Ollie my betta fish was not a fan. He is used to getting pellets and had no idea what to do with himself when it came to these flakes. He would literally swim quickly away if a big flake floated by him. He probably thought it was terrifying.I had to roll the flakes into little pellet like sheets for Ollie to even entertain the thought of eating these. Even then, he would only eat them if he was very hungry. He did not like these flakes at all. Maybe they are better for goldfish.

Not for Betas!
October 13, 2015
I have mixed reviews... I read very carefully through reviews and description and I know somewhere I saw this was ok to feed to Beta fish. My daughter kept having problems with her fishies (2 died). They were ok for a while then all of a sudden the tank would turn and they would be gone.We managed to keep the first fish alive for 9 months with no problems. I finally figured out that the first fish died only about a month after we started this food. Same with the other one... she lasted 2 months on this food. New Beta, back to the "beta food" from the pet store and this one and the tank seem good to go.I gave this 2 stars only because I'm sure it's fine for tropical fish with a filter, but don't feed to your betas unless you plan to replace them all the time!
Missing the lid
July 7, 2015
Seems to be the real deal but came without a lid!! Just the gold foil seal, the red lid was not in the box. I've had to save and refil the smaller container.
Full of artificial food coloring
May 12, 2014
After reading the ingredients list, I realized that all those colored flakes were artificially colored and decided not to use this food. Because it contains FDA food coloring doesn't make it good for people or fish. If I wanted to add artificial color to my fish, I could have just added a few drops of paint to the tank.

Sinks too fast
June 4, 2016
This review is for the tetracolor granules. They are a red fish food that initially floats but end up sinking down pretty quick. So overall I was disappointed. Sunk so fast and my danios had to fight for the food with the other fishes:( fortunately Amazon was very accommodating. They understood the situation and refunded me. My danios are happy with the flakes :)
Too processed
May 17, 2016
Decided to try it based on rave reviews. Fish like it but they don't seem to be able to digest much of it. There is a lot more waste at the bottom of my tank (and its bright red due to the excessive coloring). My water is also not as clear due to the dye used in the granules.
If a rock is slowly sinking...
April 26, 2016
I got this based on the overall rating and 'slowly sinking' food. I have only used it once and the food sunk like a rock...can't comment on the coloration or nutrition factor as my middle feeders didn't get much of a chance to eat...
Small enough for fish
August 12, 2015
I want something other than the flakes I have been using. Now that my fishes are getting bigger, this is more ideal for them.UPDATE: My fishes seem to love it. However, my water is a mess. Clean filter daily does not help.
This food sinks to the bottom.
December 19, 2014
I bought this by mistake. These are granules and they sink. I meant to buy flakes, but I was a dummy. But I guess my fish did eat this. Although I think there was a lot of waste due to it sinking so easily.
Sink immediately to the bottom
August 12, 2013
These are advertised as slow sinking but 95% of the granules drop straight to the bottom as soon as they hit the water. My fish tend to spit the granules out because they're too hard even after they've been in the water for a while. My fish like the Tetra Color flakes but these granules were a waste of money.

Tropical flakes
March 19, 2015
Fishes did not like this type of food. They would take a bite, but would immediately spit it out. Most of the flakes would also fall down the bottom of the aquarium and would start to cloud the tank in a few minutes. Your fish may like this type of food, but my fishes definitely didn't like this one. Instead, I bought the freeze-dried blood worm and my fishes liked that one better.
Low quality food
January 14, 2015
This food is junk. If you read the ingredient list, the first item listed is fish meal. Fish meal is a low quality protein. The ingredients following fish meal just get worse: dried yeast, shrimp meal (low quality protein), ground brown rice (filler), Wheat gluten (filler), feeding oat meal (filler), fish oil, potato protein (filler), etc.. you get the point. It also contains A LOT of preservatives. I used this food as a main staple until my fish started showing symptoms of vitamin deficiency. I switched to Omega One, which costs a little more, but it is a good quality food. The first ingredient is whole fish instead of fish meal, followed by other high quality ingredients that are found in the aquatic instead of on land. After a week, their colors started to brighten and they pepped up a lot.

February 26, 2017
Got this a few days ago since it had very good reviews. Since this was new food for my community tank i decided to starve the fish for a night then fed them the next day. I have rummy nosed tetras, cherry barbs, tiger barbs, siamese algae eaters, brisltenosed plecos and discus. None of them seem to like this. So now i'm stuck with a huge container of fish food none of my fish eat :(
Not what I expected
June 4, 2016
Most of these sunk immediately to the bottom, not as mentioned as slow sinkers for mid level feeders. Also if there are any left over they mold. They grow white fuzz! No matter if they were on the floor of the tank, knocked by a fish and flooting in the middle or stuck on the filter they had white fuzz on them! Ive cleaned my tank every two weeks since I set it up and never had trouble. Now I've had clean it tonight and will more than likely do a second sweap through tomorrow. I just hope this doesn't kill my fish!! I just got these shipped yesterday too!! Two feedings and less than 48 hours and I had this mess to deal with! I will not be buying this product again. Hopefully it's not a company thing because the replacement food I ordered is the same brand.

Not good for angel fish or kissing gouramis.
November 10, 2015
The description claims this to be slow sinking granules, however When i add them to my fish tank, they sink down and due to its small size get deep down in the gravel base and the fish do not eat it. I bought it as it was recommended for angel fish, but did not work out for my angel fish or kissing gouramis.
Nope!
January 16, 2015
Slow sinking my a**. These things drop faster than rocks, and my fish hate them. I can't get anything in my tank to take interest in them (ghost shrimp, fiddler crabs, pictus catfish, neon tetras, tiger barbs, gouramis). The granules are pretty large (too larger for most "smaller" fish. And if I try to crumble them smaller, they just dissolve in the water immediately. Would not recommend.
