Don't worry. Just buy this one.
October 5, 2017
Hands down no holds barred no question this is the one to purchase do not worry about which one to get just get this one. They even include two alkaline AA batteries in the box. Not carbon zinc, alkaline batteries. The instructions are extremely easy and straightforward and very simple to follow to set up the feeder. Took me all of 5 minutes start to finish to get it set up. I have a 100 gallon aquaponics tank with 20 tilapia and I need to keep them fed while I am out of town for a few days. I have the Stage 2 round pellet feed. I tested the feeder a few times to make sure it was releasing the correct amount of pellets, and to be sure it didn't run out before I got back home. I figure it holds enough for about 5 days at the current feeding rate. When they get larger I may have to get another feeder and have each one release half the needed amount. I have it sitting on a shelf about four feet above the tank to keep it from getting wet from the splashing. It is tied down to keep it from falling into the tank. Extremely secure and reliable. Highly recommended.
if I wish to skip a day and have carried time accordingly that would be great. It needs improvement on the delivery side

The product is what is described it is no fake. To set the feed you need to have the arrows activated as well from settings using mode otherwise even if the timer is set it won't work. To the manufacturer if they could set it to do daily routine, if I wish to skip a day and have carried time accordingly that would be great. It needs improvement on the delivery side.

Happy Fish
September 22, 2016
Bought this for my 75-gallon tank that houses Corydoras and Cherry Shrimp. It works like a charm! Programming initially takes a little, but once it's set up, the only thing you need to think about is if it has food in the hopper or juice in the batteries. I used shrimp pellets and a little bit of flake in mine, and it does a great job delivering noms daily. The only thing I would not use this on is Siamese Fighting Fish. I do not believe a person could adjust it to simply throw three or four little bits of food into the tank. The display shows how many times-per-day you feed and at what time. It also has a battery display, which is a wonderful thing.
Modified slightly for food type.
January 6, 2016
This thing worked great. Easy to program. Only downside was that the hole was too big for red tiny bit fish food. So opened it to the second setting and used a piece of teflon tape wrapped around electrical tape to cover most of the opening. I left a tiny square open and adjusted the opening until I had the right amount of food. I'm not sure if the Teflon tape is required but I didn't want the red tiny bits to stick to the electrical tape. It works great and kept our fish live for a month absence.
Never could find a decent automatic feeder...til now!
January 6, 2014
I have been wanting to purchase an automatic feeder for years because I feel that regular feedings of the same amount at the same time everyday improves fish health and sense of security with their environment. The only problem was that, doing the research, always proved to uncover devices which just couldn't cut it.This product was easy to use right out of the box. One note on the advertising, though: it says that a person can schedule up to eight feedings per day. The truth is, you can schedule up to four times per day, but for each feeding you can schedule the chamber to turn (feed) up to two times. If Amazon, had not referred me to this product, I would not have found such a great feeder, so I thank them. I have been using it steadily for a week and have found no serious issues.I have a mixture of crumbled flakes, cichlid crisps and chopped up freeze-dried krill in the chamber. These are all of my fishes' favorites. Setting the door to the proper position to drop just the right amount of food took a little experimentation. There are so many variables involved, the company cannot prescribe a certain size opening for every need. And, the door will need to be adjusted every so often, depending upon the amount of food left in the chamber. I put a mark where the door will be placed open for when the feeder is full and, another one, for when there is less food in the chamber. That way, the adjustment doesn't have to be guesswork.I have an acrylic aquarium with a mostly sealed top, so I have the food dropping into the aquarium heater hole. The food drops a little left-of-center so I had to slide the unit a little to the right of the center of the heater hole in order to keep food from being deposited on the top of the aquarium. After a week of use, I opened the chamber to check for moisture and found none. With the amount of food that I place in the chamber, I'm estimating that I could go up to about 3 1/2 to 4 weeks between fillings.I would highly recommend this product!

Good value, fish seem to love it
September 23, 2017
My redtail shark and platinum green tiger barbs go crazy for the Tetra 16162 TetraColor Tropical Flakes, 7.06-Ounce, 1-Liter. I've been feeding them this, with some other foods for occasional variety, for several years and they're all healthy, active, and full of color. One container lasts me for months and months. Recommended.
Awesome food
August 29, 2017
I love the price and apparently the fish love the taste. Beats purchasing from the pet store. The container was much larger than I expected it to be which was a nice surprise. Good all around food for my community tank and my cichlid tank - fish are happy and healthy.
Fish food . . . Nom Nom Nom
March 13, 2017
I bought the 7.06 oz. It is a lot of fish food. I would not recommend this size for a small tank since it would last a long time. I have a BIG tank with LARGE fish, so this container worked out perfectly. All of my fish ate the flakes and continued to grow and stay healthy, so no complaints.
FANTASTIC!
March 10, 2017
Amazing flakes, incredible value! GIANT container for a great price and my fish love it. I notice a significant increase in their color, activity and even a reduction in their usual amonia/nitrite production... overall fantastic product, happy fish and even for my picky eaters! Awesome qauilty flakes!
Pet stores smell bad. This is easier.
November 17, 2016
Just like what you get at the pet store... without having to actually go there.Nice sized flakes that float long enough to get eaten. My water stays clear even when my kids accidently dump too much in.
It's a good fish food.
January 5, 2015
My fish like it and that's what counts. (Though to be honest they'll eat pretty much anything that hits the water and even peck at me when I reach into the tank.) I've never had a problem with Tetra products and especially the Tetramin line. I've used it for decades now and I've never had an issue. My fish's diets are supplemented with frozen and freeze-dried foods too so they aren't totally dependent on flake food, but this is a good food. I'm not sure how much it supplements the color, but once again I'm not using it exclusively, so maybe that matters.

September 23, 2016
Product works however, I would like a finer control of the amount of food it drops. I use a small pellet and at the lowest setting it distributes too much food. Also I have a thick plastic rim on the tank and the clam does not open wide enough. I do like the product and I think this will work fine for those times that I'm away and can not feed the fish.
reliable
August 17, 2016
This feeder has never failed to feed my fish when I asked it to. The drum is large enough to hold a Christmas vacation's worth of food (at least!). The only problem is that sometimes the amount of food dispensed varies, depending on how it had falling around in the drum. Sometimes more is closer to the opening and you get almost too much, but sometimes less is by the opening and you barely get anything.
So far, okay.
June 4, 2016
I've had it one day, So far it works as stated, however the little door has a "too much" or "not enough" setting when you're using pellet food. There's no in between. There also is no way of feeding algae wafers in this and pellet foods. You'll have to purchase two. I may review later based on the experience with it when I go on vacation at the end of the month.. Which is why I purchased it in the first place. Also the "Free" batteries that they had in it were dead. I had to replace with my own AA's that I had in the drawer.
Works great, excellent price, easy setup!!,
March 11, 2016
Works like a charm!!!! Easy to setup with instructions included OR YouTube video a gal did. Excellent device. Only downside is finding best way to mount for our particular tank. Just setting it somewhere is a little risky because it sort of liens forward, and I worry it could topple off and fall in to tank.
I'm not giving 5 stars because the design could be a bit better..
January 17, 2016
I bought this fish feeder because I was going out of state for vacation for 12 days and couldn't bring myself to ask a friend to drive to my house every day for 12 days just to feed fish. I have a standard 10 gallon starter kit that I got from Petco. Due to the design of the feeder, it would not fit on the hood of my tank in a way that would allow the food to drop in without scattering flakes everywhere and making a big mess. Because of this I had to go with setting the hood over the tank sideways. I tested it a few days prior to leaving and it worked as advertised, fed my fish twice daily at 7:00 am and 7:00 pm. When I arrived back home, about 60% of the water had evaporated. Amazingly only 1 of 8 fish had died so the feeder had been doing its job as intended. I'm not giving 5 stars because the design could be a bit better...I mean it doesn't work well with a standard hood design and because of that I had to leave the tank partially uncovered, resulting in rapid evaporation so that my fish were stuck with less water, which fouls quickly. I immediately added more clean and treated water and cleaned the filter but within a few days, 2 more fish died, presumably due to the previous condition of the tank. Having said all that, if you have to use this feeder with the hood partially off, I think it would be fine as long as it's for no more than 3-4 days. There was no moisture inside the food container which is also a plus.
I generally like and recommend this automatic fish feeder
January 11, 2016
I generally like and recommend this automatic fish feeder. I have it set up to feed once in the morning and once in the evening. I've been using it for 4 months and it is still going strong on the initial set of batteries. I would give this product a 5 star rating except for one issue. It is very difficult to adjust the feed slot to avoid under or overfeeding flake food. There are only a few detents (maybe 4 or 5) and they are too coarse. It is also very easy for the slide to be jostled out of the detent and it isn't easy to get the slot small enough to avoid overfeeding. I'm currently feeding 32 fish in a 55 gallon planted aquarium and i like to feed twice a day. I had to use tape on the slide that adjusts the feed slot opening to make sure it stayed in position (I used scotch tape, but duct tape would work as well ;-). The tape allows me to fine tune the opening at a partial detent setting. I also found that I need to use a mortar and pestle on the flake food to make for more uniform flake sizes in order to achieve more consistent feed amounts. I really think Eheim needs to completely redesign the feed slot adjustment mechanism. With my tape enhancement I was finally able to achieve a more consistent feed amount (although it does still vary from feeding to feeding) and I can leave my tank unattended for many days and not worry about feeding the fish. If Eheim would significantly improve the feed slot adjustment mechanism I would gladly give this product 5 stars.

Fish gobble these flakes
April 16, 2017
I don't know about color enhancement, haven't seen a change. But, my fish gobble them up. No left over food. No complaints.
Happy healthy fish!
June 13, 2016
We have been feeding this food to our fish for months. They are healthy and bright. All of our fish take to it right away and swim eagerly to the top to eat it. Our water never clouds and we have great water quality. I don't feel that this food alters the water chemistry much at all if some sinks to the bottom. It does a decent job floating however and sinks slowly after it breaks the surface so the fish usually get it all before itl ands on the gravel. Our catfish even likes to try to swim up and grab some of it even though we feed him his own bottom feeder food as well. We are happy with this purchase and the size it comes in. We only have to buy fish food every 6 months or so for the 7 fish in our 35 gallon tank. Good buy!
They'er still alive so I guess they like it.
March 10, 2016
My fish seems to enjoy these flakes no one has any complaints yet. I decided to try TetraColor to enhance the color of my fish. Prior to purchasing this product my fish were eating Omega one which is a very good product but it's a bit pricey. The Tetra flakes float well and the fish are quickly attracted to it. I have not had any water quality issues all water parameters have tested normal. So far I have not seen a noticeable difference in their color but time will tell.
Great value for the size but it doesn't improve the color of your fish
November 29, 2013
This was the best deal I could find on size v price when looking online and our tropical fish love it. This size will probably last the fish in or 29 gallon tank a long long time. The product states that it will approve the color of your fish in the many many weeks of using this food exclusively I have noticed no difference in fish color. I can confirm that these to leave the fish tank water clear though, there's no bleeding of color in to the warm water. Also, in case it it is important to someone these flakes themselves are rather large, too large in fact for the small fish in our tank so I break them up with my fingers before dumping them in the tank
Package is 2.2 oz, not 2.75
February 2, 2012
Not sure if I should post this here, as there is no problem with the food itself--my fish love it. However, the title states that it is a 2.75 oz container, but what arrived (and what is actually shown in the product image) is a 2.2 oz container. I did not return it (not worth the hassle), but hopefully they will fix this. The last bottle I bought (from Walmart, not here) had a "Bonus 25% more" so it actually WAS 2.75 oz. I think what happened is the company stopped doing that, but they have not adjusted the title here.

Does what it is supposed to do but needs improvement
August 17, 2017
This is a great concept but it's messy. As the feeder turns to feed fish flakes get all over top of tank. Most of the flakes were wasted but it does feed the fish.
This feeder will work great for other types of filtration systems
April 20, 2017
It works, but not for a sump filtration system or larger aquarium. I have a 110 gal cichlid tank and was unable to get the bracket to attach to the side of the tank so I ended up sitting it on the top of the glass cover. I was hoping that by using the sinking pellets I wouldn't have to worry about the sump filter pulling all the food off the top of the water and into the filter. I was wrong. The first feed cycle all the food went into the water and down to the filter. This feeder will work great for other types of filtration systems, just not mine.
Difficult to tune the amount of food released.
November 20, 2016
It's very difficult to tune the amount of food dispensed; granted I have to use a mixture of different types of food for different fish. I had to break up the different types of food to try to make them all the same size. Still, it wanted to dispense either a huge amount of food or none at all; eventually i was able to tune the food size to get it to work, but it took two hours worth of breaking up food pieces. otherwise it works as advertized. I definitely recommend testing the amount of food released several times before leaving it to feed your fish.

May 10, 2016
Difficult to know just how much food is released at feedings, as the flakes shift around so much inside. Some rotations will drop a lot, and others next to none. Also very difficult to position. I have to caddy corner the hood to attach it to the edge of the tank.
Could be better
August 9, 2015
It's difficult to rate this product. It's a solid build fish feeder. You can definitely feel the quality. However, it's not easy to use in my setup. I have a tank cover, and there is no place for me to mount it on cover. There is also not enough opening space for me to mount it onto the tank so I sit it at the back of the cover and use the opening for the accessories for dropping flakes.Placement issue solved, but here comes the second issue. I tried experimenting with the dispense of the flake from the feeder and found out the feeder will blow air into the chamber as it rotates. Some flakes will be blow out from the chamber and fly out so I had to create a backstop to prevent the flakes from flying out to outside of the tank.I think this is fine fish feeder when going on vacation, but I can't imagine myself using this feeder daily.
Ok, but not that great with pellets
January 6, 2014
I read the reviews about this product but decided to try it out anyway. It's true that if you use a pellet feed, you either get too little or too much.I only have 1 fish, so only need 3-5 pellets at a time. I moved the slider to just about the width of the pellets and manually triggered it to feed. The results are by no means regular. Sometimes I'd get the desired 4 pellets, but then the larger pellets started to clog the opening and I'd get none. If I opened the slider a tiny millimeter more, I'd end up with something like 30 pellets.I love the idea for the feeder, and as a mechanical one, it works, but I suppose you need to be conscious of the type of feed you put in it, and the number of fish you're trying to feed.

November 26, 2014
This is a different brand that I went across town to buy. But the fish are still eating it. I guess its okay.
It's a classic staple...but it's got it's issues
August 11, 2014
The fish like it, but it really doesn't float well at all. Any disturbance at the surface of the water (from a bubbler, etc, or god forbid a fish splashes...) and the food just falls to the bottom. It likes to get wrapped around silk plants and can start a lovely red slime issue if you feed too much and/or your fish won't "clean up" fallen food. It's a classic, staple food, but it could use a little backbone...we need a thicker flake that floats like a small floating pellet can. I'm sure they can figure this out after all the decades of practice. Meantime, it's an almost unavoidable staple feed, so just be sure you have Cory cats or other bottom feeders to help clean up the mess.

but it was not easy to do
September 10, 2017
This was not compatible at all with small pellet food (betta food) I thought I could tape the opening the dispense a small amount of pellets, but it was not easy to do. I feel like they should have made this clear in the description.
Worked for 3 months.
February 11, 2017
Purchase in November, about 3 months ago and loved it. As of the end of Jan, it stopped working and the display started blinking. I figured it was a low battery but when that's the case it is supposed to stop prior to cycling to avoid over feeding, mine did not do that. I replaced the batteries a couple of times to try to fix it but it didn't help. I looked up every which way possible to try to fix it but I think it's just shot. Doesn't seem right that it would malfunction in the way that it did unless it's a signal of water damage but the motor has never been in water and it hangs about 8 inches above the tank so I'm not too sure. I will try to pursue the company to see if it's in a warranty of some sorts. Will update with that when I get results.
Great if it worked
January 31, 2016
I was super excited to get this fish feeder for my 55 gal tank. I read the reviews and everything sounded great about it. I loved the fan part, so the fish food would stay dry, a chronic problem with other fish feeders. When I received it in the mail and put the batteries in, the fan spun for about one second, then stopped and has been still ever since. I didn't have time to complain or really be upset about it, because I was leaving for a business trip, and my fish needed to be fed! Well after I got home, I examined it, and determined it was defective. I did another test feed just to see how it'd been doing after I was away for a week, and well I guess my fish had a week long fast. The rotatory drum, moved about a quarter of an inch then got stuck and wouldn't turn past that unless I manually did it. I'm super disappointed and hope that it was only just a defective one that I received.
Inconsistent and messy.
June 8, 2015
The unit I received did not work correctly. I set up the timer per instructions but it never emitted food at the specified time. It didn't appear to a problem with a broken unit, either, since the manual feed button worked.Swapping it out for another unit also would not have worked, however, because when we manually tested it, two things happened: one, a very random amount of food came out, once just a couple of flakes and another time a huge clump, and two, most of the food did not get into the tank but stayed on top of the lid. I repositioned it several times during testing but could never get it so that the food consistently made it through the top slot in the lid, which is about 1.5 inches x 4 inches. Not worth the effort to get a new one and try again.
A poor design concept
September 6, 2014
I am going with the minority here in expressing my disappointment at this particular eheim product. The problem after two weeks use relates to its mounting and its horizontal orientation. One would imagine that you place food into a hopper and that it would be dispensed in a fashion similar to that which you would see on a lawn spreader. something would rotate in response to a timer and in doing so a portion of food would drop out the bottom. In this feeder, even though the pictures show it standing up, it is actually positioned horizontally. The part with the clock remains stationary and the whole food tray rotates. An opening in the food tray allows the food to spill out as the hopper makes a full rotation. Since you are dealing with an arc here, the food spreads over a relatively large area. This requires a larger access hole in your tank than would be considered ideal. Additionally, as the food level declines, the amount of food released changes dramatically without your making any change to the portion control opening. In my case, the vibration from the rotation caused the unit to topple off the fish tank onto the floor. I imagined that one of my paintings had fallen off the wall given the crashing sound it made. Despite my initial satisfaction with this purchase, I, like another reviewer had to send it back.
Work great once you figure out how to use it. Way too easy to fall into the water.
May 19, 2012
This is versatile and useful. I even dropped it in my tank and the next day I had to reprogram it but it worked.Great for vacations.I am modifying my view from experience.Later I have found that it is too easy to drop in the tank. While they include some type of screw they don't provide directions to attach it. Consequently, in normal use if I forget to remove it from the tank, simple maintenance causes it to fall in. Unfortunately, I have had to buy replacement models.I would like one that fastens to the side but is not difficult to install.Perhaps my best solution is only to put it on the tanks when I go away for vacation. During a long vacationyou do risk the battery failing. It does not provide enough food for a very large tank over along period of time.

Ollie the betta does not approve of this purchase
March 26, 2017
I read that betta fish could eat this but Ollie my betta fish was not a fan. He is used to getting pellets and had no idea what to do with himself when it came to these flakes. He would literally swim quickly away if a big flake floated by him. He probably thought it was terrifying.I had to roll the flakes into little pellet like sheets for Ollie to even entertain the thought of eating these. Even then, he would only eat them if he was very hungry. He did not like these flakes at all. Maybe they are better for goldfish.

Not for Betas!
October 13, 2015
I have mixed reviews... I read very carefully through reviews and description and I know somewhere I saw this was ok to feed to Beta fish. My daughter kept having problems with her fishies (2 died). They were ok for a while then all of a sudden the tank would turn and they would be gone.We managed to keep the first fish alive for 9 months with no problems. I finally figured out that the first fish died only about a month after we started this food. Same with the other one... she lasted 2 months on this food. New Beta, back to the "beta food" from the pet store and this one and the tank seem good to go.I gave this 2 stars only because I'm sure it's fine for tropical fish with a filter, but don't feed to your betas unless you plan to replace them all the time!

Seems to be the real deal but came without a lid!! Just the gold foil seal, the red lid was not in the box. I've had to save and refil the smaller container.
Full of artificial food coloring
May 12, 2014
After reading the ingredients list, I realized that all those colored flakes were artificially colored and decided not to use this food. Because it contains FDA food coloring doesn't make it good for people or fish. If I wanted to add artificial color to my fish, I could have just added a few drops of paint to the tank.

I bought this because we were going on vacation last august2016, when we come back after 1 week, everything was good. It work for about a month, then this stop working. I notice that the koi is splashing water when it start jumping for food. Maybe this is the reason why it stopped working. I felt this thing should be waterproof, robust enought to work near water.
Food Was Ruined and Wet, My Fish Went Hungry
July 17, 2016
I had hoped to have an easy solution for a 7 day trip I took with my college. I purchased this automatic feeder thinking it would be great. Unfortunately the feeder seems to collect water as a condensation trap where the food is held. This results in a large clump of wet food that won't fall out of the feeder. Meaning, my fish didn't get fed while I was on my trip for 7 days. 7 days! One fish died shortly after I returned. They were all famished.Other than not doing it's one job of feeding my fish, I found the attachment to the tank to be extremely tedious. I would have really expected a better product from EHEIM, but maybe I was just caught up in nostalgia of memories from years back when it was a high quality brand.Worst of all, by the time I got back from my trip the return period was over because I bough this well ahead of time to insure nothing went wrong. But I guess the best laid plans can quickly go wrong when a horrible product like this is in the mix.
Not for pellets... might have killed all my fish...
January 4, 2015
Do not use for pellets! The dispensing mechanism is very poorly designed for pellets. There is a very, very tiny sweet spot where you can get the dose to be what you would want when dispensing. If the sliding door (used for dosage adjustment) moves +/-1mm from this position, the dispenser will either deliver an almost unlimited amount of food to your tank on each dose, or it will clog immediately and then never feed your fish automatically again. This is almost impossible to prevent as the sliding mechanism is total crap quality.I used it successfully for about two weeks as a test. The dosage amount at each feeding varied pretty wildly but it seemed like it was going to be good enough to do the job. I then re-filled the reservoir and went on a trip for 2 weeks. I came back to find that the sliding door had moved slightly (less than 1mm) and as a result, the fish hadn't been feed since the day I left.It is unclear at this point how many of them will survive.

The flakes float instead of sink to the bottom, which is not good for fish since too much air can cause bloating and illness.

Tropical flakes
March 19, 2015
Fishes did not like this type of food. They would take a bite, but would immediately spit it out. Most of the flakes would also fall down the bottom of the aquarium and would start to cloud the tank in a few minutes. Your fish may like this type of food, but my fishes definitely didn't like this one. Instead, I bought the freeze-dried blood worm and my fishes liked that one better.
Low quality food
January 14, 2015
This food is junk. If you read the ingredient list, the first item listed is fish meal. Fish meal is a low quality protein. The ingredients following fish meal just get worse: dried yeast, shrimp meal (low quality protein), ground brown rice (filler), Wheat gluten (filler), feeding oat meal (filler), fish oil, potato protein (filler), etc.. you get the point. It also contains A LOT of preservatives. I used this food as a main staple until my fish started showing symptoms of vitamin deficiency. I switched to Omega One, which costs a little more, but it is a good quality food. The first ingredient is whole fish instead of fish meal, followed by other high quality ingredients that are found in the aquatic instead of on land. After a week, their colors started to brighten and they pepped up a lot.
