Perfect!
March 29, 2017
I bought 3 of these lights to use in our stairwell into our basement and these work perfectly. I have them spaced every third step and this gives enough light to see all of the stairs and our black cat that hangs out on the stairs as well. The light output is like a small night light and the heat they produce isn't anywhere close to being a hazard, I'd guess maybe 100 degrees and these are on 24/7 so I have given them a good, long time to see if they get too warm. I put them into plastic, Carlon, single gang boxes and everything is great.
I think its better than LED
October 10, 2016
I've always wanted these, but my local hardware stores didn't have them. So I got these on here. I like these over the LED ones because if that LED goes out, you need a whole new fixture and hope it matches the old ones, if the bulb goes out in this I just get a new bulb. I was a little worried about the heat from an incandescent bulb but the other side of the wall that I put them in is still exposed and so i was able to feel how hot they were and they were barley warm. If you want these i'd totally recommend them they can light up stairs or a hallway nicely at night. I actually put mine on a timer switch so when it gets late they turn on and in the morning they turn off without me having to do anything.
Great price, great item

These are awesome! I ordered them to add lighting to a set of steps in a room that would be mostly dark most of the time - they came highly recommended so I had high expectations. I like that they come with vertical and horizontal plates to allow for multiple mounting options, and this version (plain metal plate) looks really nice and well finished. Installation is very easy - the it even comes with the wire nuts you need to hook it up! I have mine on a dimmer switch - they are quite bright at full power so I am running them at probably 25% and 3 of them do a great job of marking the steps and walkway in my room.
Good step light, easy and simple.

Basic and just right. This fits on a standard one gang box and works perfectly. It is basically a hardwired night light fixture, so this kit has the bracket with the bulb socket, the bulb, and the faceplate (no box). If you are adding a new "old work" box into old sheetrock, avoid the blue boxes as the lip that will be on the face of the wall is slightly too thick for this faceplate to suck down to the wall all the way - instead get the fiberglass box with the metal brackets that allow this to snug up against the wall. It has a gasket behind the faceplate that seals off stray light, so long as it's tight against the wall. I replaced the bulb with an LED and love it. We intend to paint it with the wall color to have it blend in, but it looks just fine white.
These are great, especially when company comes to visit.

I bought these and installed them throughout the house, I staggered these down a long hallway using four total. I placed two in another hallway staggered , and put some in other areas of the house. I also put these on an automatic Z-Wave three way switch so that they can be controlled from the master bedroom and the garage entry. We use our garage as our main entry to the house. Home automation is great. Ours is customized and you can set events like certain lights coming on every night at a certain time, then going off after we go to bed. You can control your light and door locks via your smart phone or tablet. We also have a camera system tied into the mix. The Z-Wave proximity sensors will send a text message to our iPhones and we can see who is in the house. The great thing about these as opposed to LED is that these can be dimmed and with the automation system, they will come on at a certain time and go off in the morning. If you would like these dimmer, you can always replace the 7 watt light with a 4 watt bulb. I placed mine in the vertical position to match the outlets position. They produce more light when placed horizontal, at least to me, but I wanted them to look built in. You get two covers made of metal and you can choose which way to install these. One thing you have to consider is that the cover is not oversized like a lot of switch cover or outlet covers. I basically used the metal boxes with the clamps and did drops for each light so that one wire was in the box when I was able to do so. I then tied the individual lines into a junction box in the attic with the proper fittings and covers. So basically you have to be careful how big you cut the hole are you may make it too big and make more work for yourself. Nice hard to find item and when in doubt, consult with an electrician before trying to install these yourself. I am an electrician and had these installed in two days time with a lot of time wasted with friends. It could have been done in about a half a day if I just got to work on them and not have been distracted.Everyone who visit our home loves these as it helps them navigate the house during the night if they want a snack, water, or need a restroom. We also use them in the halls instead of the main lights as it saves energy. It also frees up outlets where night lights use to be plugged into them. They are very professional looking and make our home look much more customized.
Great Step Lights
February 11, 2014
These are great step lights that are much less expensive the their LED counterparts and they even have some benefits. They look great and come with both vertical and horizontal plates. I have the brushed aluminum ones and the plates are actually solid metal, not some painted plastic. Very high quality.Good:- Price (about 1/3 the price of LED step lights)- Look Great- Uses a standard night light bulb, which is dirt cheap.- Dimmable! I'm yet to find an LED step light that you can dim.- If you don't want to dim it but do want to use LED bulbs, you can buy these and pick up some of the cheap standard LED night light bulbs. I think you can get a pair for under $5 these days.- Easy to install in a standard 1 gang box. It's basically a bracket with a nightlight socket that you install in the box. These are the size of a standard plate, not the bigger step lights you will see sometimes.Bad:- Not much bad here. The fixture itself that you mount is a little deep and can be tough to fit extra wires in if you are junctioning in the box being used. I would suggest using as deep of a box as possible where these will be mounted.- Not very bright. For my use on the steps of a home theater riser they are perfect. If you are wanting to illuminate an entire set of steps, I would look elsewhere or plan on needing several of these. They are quite bright with the plates off, but once on they really limit the light.Overall these are a simple, quality and in-expensive product I can highly recommend.

Excellent product. Well constructed and I was able to mount the light in a compressed plastic electrical approved box. I used the light to on a three step oak stair case in a dark hallway in our old house. I' ve ordered two more Sunco Mini Lights for the remaining two steps to improve vision for this hazardous stair case.

Thee have been installed and client is very happy. I will be specifying 100 more for use as interior night lights in a Care Center.
Yes!

Easy to install. Plates have a foam barrier which prevents light from leaking out. Everything about these is what I wanted!
A Lot Of Light For Not Much Power!
December 23, 2014
These stairwell lights are very easy to install. They install in a standard outlet box. The provide a lot of light for the power consumed. They even come with both a horizontal and vertical grill so you can install with either orientation.

I had an expensive step light that lasted one year. Naturally, it was out of warranty, discontinued and non repairable. I bought two of these and am happy with the results. It's a great light for the money.
Easy installation, works as advertised
March 10, 2014
efficient design of the lamp holder could fit in a single gang box but I chose to mount it in a 4"x4" square box with a single gang mud ring to dissipate more heat. Although run through a wall switch above, it will typically be left on full time in a dark backstage. A single unit is illuminating a 4-rise stair access to theatre stage from landing and stairs to dressing rooms below. The stairs and railing walls are painted black. In this application a single fixture with the 7 watt incandescent lamp provided is sufficient for safe transit, but marginal; relatively dim step light below stage level is desirable to mask it from the audience. For more conventional use I would recommend two fixtures, one per each two steps.I bought the S6 LED Night Light Bulb 8 Lumen Warm White Light offered as an alternative to the Step Light, and tried it. It is too dim to illuminate steps alone, maybe just right for a night light in a hallway or bathroom.
work great, but light bulbs burned out
January 6, 2014
after 2 months after installation, one of the units light bulbs burned out. much more price effective than buying at a retail store at $25 or more a piece. this will update any staircase. I installed one at the top and one on the bottom. looks amazing!
Good Deal

I selected this step light while looking for a fixture to illuminate my porch steps. Many of the other options out there were more expensive and required installing a transformer as well. This handy little fixture fit the bill nicely. You will need to provide your own standard electrical box to house it, I had some extra remodel pvc remodel boxes around that did the trick. Don't worry if the color choices don't suit you as a quick coat of paint takes care of that. All in all a good deal.

very nice light, looks nice in hallway
Quite bright.

Possibly too bright for a stage step. Hopefully will last forever, though and end the constant bulb replacements. Good quality construction and materials.
Nice and bright

Perfect Stairs light
August 12, 2016
Works perfectly but I wish it had had a gasket so light did not leak around the sides! I only bought it for the cover not the light so my review is just for the cover.
Would recommend
July 8, 2016
My electrician installed these very easily. I love having these on our stairs. My only complaint is that I wish the grids were a little wider just for looks. The light coming from these are just the right brightness though.
A good choice
November 21, 2015
These are nice and bright, and look good in place. They are brighter that i thought they would be (going by their specs), and the light is about 3,000k, which we like very much, due to our cool color palate.Ours are placed higher than normal (about 2' above the step), to cast a wider light, which has created more of a zebra stripe effect due to the louvers in the light. Something to consider.

June 5, 2016
Ordered this to evaluate for use in three remodels for exterior and interior step and patio accent lighting. We need over 26 lights and don't want to break the bank. We wanted to like this light as it is inexpensive and the cover plates being aluminum wouldn't corrode. This light is 7 W incandescent- (like a night lamp). The problem is the metal cover which obscures most of the light and allows only a penlights amount of glow to escape. This light is useless regardless of The ability to substitute an led light which we tried. We are opting for the Elco led light which has a rectangular cutout in the cover plate over a 3x4 led array- an acceptable and more attractive solution to a line voltage system and 2x4 boxes.
Better options available
August 6, 2013
This product does what it says, provides lights to stairs, however, it struggles to provide enough light to the area. With the grill off these provide plenty of light. Once the grill is on, light output drops drastically. These are incandescent bulbs which give off heat. The heat was so great that I had to remove this from the install because they were warping the plastic electrical box they were in. I tried to get an LED bulb that fit but after several attempts, no luck. Finally found another product which was better. It was a 12 LED Mini Step Lights with Lenses. So much better and bright and safer and energy efficient. It was almost $30 bucks though so keep that in mind.

This light is useless regardless of the energy savings
June 5, 2016
Ordered this to evaluate for use in three remodels for exterior and interior step and patio accent lighting. We need over 26 lights and don't want to break the bank. This light is a 4 x3 led array putting out a mid range white spectrum white light of about 7 W brightness- (like a night lamp). The problem is the metal cover which not only being unsightly, obscures most of the light and allows a penlights amount of glow to escape. This light is useless regardless of the energy savings. We are opting for the Elco light which has a rectangular cutout in the cover plate and a similar led array- an acceptable and more attractive solution to a line voltage system and 2x4 boxes.
