I got my own stuff (this and a canner), and had my mom come over to my house. She was impressed that I had all of the things necessary to can. She showed me how to use all of the tools that I received so I didn't use the manual too much but each of them worked well and did their job nicely. Easy to clean and easy to store. I love canning food, but I also got burned quite a bit using the old utensils. Now I am able to can more safely, especially with the jar lifters, as they have a special shaped lifter that actually fits the rims of the lids and takes them out of the canner better. I can safely release the pressure in the canner and cut the processing and cool down time down exponentially. The entire set is great, and a wonderful aid to working in the kitchen! | | | |

Otherwise, trying to get leverage enough to crank it is a little difficult. Aside from that, for the price this is a stellar little dude. It makes such a creamy textured applesauce. My one negative comment is that the center nut leaked oil the first few times I used it. I even cleaned it really well before my first use and it still leaked oil into all of my baby food. It now doesn't leak oil but it was a drag to have to throw out a whole batch of food due to the mill contaminating my daughter's food! I do like the metal handle knobOctober 8, 2014 The pieces that hook over the edge of a bowl or pan are poorly spaced - they won't fit over anything larger than the diameter of the food mill. I had to bend them out to make them work at all. Also, once hooked onto the bowl or pan, the tool is not level. I do like the metal handle knob. This is a lightweight version of the traditional Foley. It works fine, and if it lasts five years I will be happy. It's not a Folley Food MillDecember 26, 2013 I grew up with a Folley food mill in the house and I had one in my own house for at least the past 25 years if not longer. I moved about 1 1/2 years ago and unless it's still in an unpacked box it might have fallen victim to the lost treasure category. I needed to use it for the holiday cranberry applesauce and since I couldn't find it I tried to replace it. I couldn't find a Folley on Amazon so I went with a product that I thought was closest to it.It works much the same but it is much more flimsy in construction. This one is made in China and my sense is that it won't last all that long but until it falls apart it will do. In the meantime, I'm still looking to see if I can find a true Folley. | It works. We melted the plastic funnel and the jar lifter comes apart if you pull too hard. The problem is, the metal is not continuous through the black cylindrical handles, rather, it inserts, and not far enough, into each end of the cylinders. Its a good enough set for 20-30 jars on occasion. Not a good food millMarch 12, 2014 I had a Foley Food Mill for over 40 years, it was perfect, did what I needed it to do. This one was awful. Looks pretty, but was flimsy, I thought the different plates for the bottom would be a plus but they weren't. The smallest of them still let apple skin and seeds go through. I was very unhappy with this product. Have donated it to a local thrift shop. Unfortunately, I used it three times -- trying each time to use a different screen in the bottom, so could not return it. I'm not sure if it was meant to stay together or not. From my own experience with food mills, if you don't take them apart to clean them, the trapped nasties will contaminate your next food milling festival. | A piece of JUNK! DO NOT BUY!October 4, 2017 This was the worst food mill I have ever purchased. DO NOT BUY! I was trying to make apple sauce, the soft cooked apples would not go thru. I took the mill apart and put it back together twice hoping it would work. The soft cooked mushy apples still would still NOT go thru. This is a piece of junk! couldn't even turn the handleOctober 1, 2017 received promptly but was very disappointed as soon as I opened the box and tried a dry run just to see how it worked. I couldn't even turn the handle. It would turn about half of an inch and stop. It made an unnatural scraping squealing noise. In theory this would make a great mill. It has the feet and the wire that removes the food from the bottom but in reality it's a huge waste of money. 0 stars if I could Did Not Do What I ShouldSeptember 12, 2017 My wife needs a food mill for her everyday dietary needs and to take with her on a trip. The Norpro 2 quart mill was a big disappointment to her. She tried to make puree out of softly baked apples but the flesh of the apples was not strained and it didn’t go through the sieve into the pot. The blade does not touch the surface of the sieve and the wire underneath does not contact it. We have a very old Foley food mill inherited from my mother that works much better. Can anyone recommend what model to buy? Don't BuyMarch 28, 2017 This product does not work very well. I cleaned it thoroughly prior to using and even ran it through my dishwasher just in case, ( I was going to use it to make homemade baby food). When I tried to use it with cooked sweet potatoes, there was a black oily substance leaking from the spring mechanism on the bottom-- very weird and gross!! Needless to say I couldn't return now that I had used it so I practically threw the money and the sweet potatoes into the trash. This item was a HUGE disgusting disappointment. GARBAGESeptember 19, 2016 I used this a total of 3 times. It does not work well. The blade is very shallow and therefore takes forever to mill anything. On the third time using it he upper portion of the mill became very loose and when inspected closely, the pin holding it in place had moved. NOT worth buying. Garbage!!! Bad QualityNovember 17, 2015 This food mill is awful quality. When I got it in the mail I washed it and made sure it was cleaned and sanitary and I dried it thoroughly. I used it to make applesauce and after running the first batch through I noticed drops and dribbles of black and grey liquid in the applesauce. Then I saw that the black and grey liquid was coming from the screw on the bottom. I took it apart, washed it again. Had the same problem. It ruined my applesauce and I'm returning the food mill. The most useful item in the set is the jar lifter which is also unfortunately the worst made item. The metal part of the handle separated from the black plastic part on the first use. After a few uses, both sides separated. This is dangerous when you're handling hot glass jars as you can easily lose your grip on the jar. This could've been avoided if the metal frame went into the plastic a little further but the manufacturer probably saved a penny. The rest of the items (with the exception of the magentic lid lifter) most probably already have in their kitchens. The most critical component of the set, the jar lifter, is made extremely cheaply and may cause a dropped jar and possible cuts and/or burns.
