I have just used it for a battery monitor, using it for cumulative amps to the load, voltage of battery, and battery shutoff at a specified voltage. Seems to work great. I am also considering adding a solar panel in the future.
Great unit for the price.
February 12, 2016
If you use flooded type batteries (golf cart or marine type bats) the specs are to charge them daily at 14.6-14.8 volts to keep them in good working order and to keep the Sulfates from building up on the battery plates. This unit is NOT an MPPT type but is as close as it gets to one. Keeps my bank of 8 golf cart batteries fully charged using 4 100 watt Renogy solar panels. I set the PV disconnect at 14.7 volts which is something you can not do with lesser controllers...

Drop in replacement for another unit that got fried by lightning
November 5, 2015
My first charge controller was taken out by a lightning strike (as were half the electronics in the house) which was impressive considering that this isn't tied to the grid in any way. This unit looks exactly the same as the other, has the same inputs, same menu functions, accepts the same battery temp sensor... it's everything at a lower price.

Really a necessity when building a Solar Array. I accidentally connected the wrong panels together while up on my roof. These tools made disconnecting very easy. I also had to make a couple of extender cables with MC4 connectors. These tools really made the job easy. Be sure to buy the crimp pliers too. You don't want to skimp here. Any connector problem will degrade system performance or might actually burn up.
Worth the money only if you only use them once
August 5, 2017
I thought these would probabaly be a waste of money but they are not. Another tool you will probably hardley ever use but make things simple when you do use them
Good product
May 19, 2017
Cool product to make cable with MC4 connectors. I like this better than using wrench
Cheap and does the job.
March 14, 2017
You will appreciate this inexpensive tool if you want to disconnect cables connected with MC4 connectors.
Love this Product
July 16, 2015
I love this product for myself . Makes assembly and disassembly easy.It makes disconnecting the wire connectors much quicker. its the perfect tool to use. This tool is important for disconnecting MC4 solar panels without damaging the connectors. I plan to eventually upgrade my Solar Rig and run a dozen panels in Parallel and this tool is needed to disconnect them cables without risking breakage.

Good controller!

This is a good charge controller for a small kit. If you really want to build something serious you need an mppt controller
Quality Unit for the Price
January 5, 2017
The unit works great. The only "complaint" I have is that the screen is difficult to read when viewing off-angle. Unfortunately, where I have mine installed it's almost impossible to look straight at the face of the display. All in all though, it's doing a great job of regulating the charge on my accessory battery. It's definitely more than I needed for my setup, but for the price I don't think you can beat the quality. I had to replace my previous unit (BlueFire PWM) which failed after only a handful of months in service.

Set it and leave it. This controller is easy and a sure thing for keeping my battery bank charged.
Great value and would be a five star product if instructions were a little bit more common

Need to take a apart MC 4 Connection?
February 25, 2014
This tool is quite reasonably priced and easy to use to seperate MC4 connections without damaging them. Do not take the chance of damaging the connect with pliers, etc. Tool is light, tough and easy to use.

great design but undependable
February 24, 2016
i purchased 2 of these for 2 different systems. the design and functions provided are awesome. now,,,the pros: great design with lots of function. large readable display. able to switch off and on the load depending on the battery level.the cons: on one after a week the load only provides 11v at full battery charge and with full sun on panels??? initially it provided voltage of battery. therefore 3 stars only. on the other the panel input doesn't show it is charging even tho it is charging.i still use both to control panel input for charging battery but dont use load features.so great design but undependable.

So far only fit Renogy parts. The kit needs to be more universal.
They Work, But Are Not Necessary
February 15, 2015
These are useful, but they are not really necessary to attach MC4 connectors to PV cable. You could easily use two adjustable wrenches for the same task. The only other use for them is to release the retaining clips that hold a male to a female connector. Again, I found I was able to do that task with my fingers, so the tools were not needed.

Another brand of MC4 connectors might not be so easy to work with
February 11, 2017
These only work with the one brand of MC4 connectors. When I discovered they didn't work, I also discovered I didn't need them to work with the connectors; using my fingers, pliers, and a wrench were more than adequate. Another brand of MC4 connectors might not be so easy to work with, though.

May 13, 2016
this tool does not fit the gland of all the MC4 connectosr even i bought the connectors from amazon. should be a notation that only fit the gland of RENOGY MC4 connectors.
Sorta work on other makes of connectors. Better than your fingers.
May 9, 2016
Work great on Renogy connectors. I don't own any Renogy connectors. They do however remove the clips on anyone else's connectors, which was my main reason for getting them. So as long as you know that, then yes, they sorta work. Better than pinching with your fingers as I don't do solar for a living, otherwise I'd get a real tool.
Waste of money really
April 24, 2016
Only fits Renogy products. Also, if you have basic tools (and you're assembling a solar system so I assume you do) you don't need these at all. Waste of money really.
Wrong size

Only part of it was the right size it's to large to kit od of mc4 connectors was discovered a pointed with it tried it on 3 different brands of connectors so it wasn't them
Don't need them

I don't think you really need these to assemble a mc4 connector...at least I didn't use them.

July 8, 2017
Purchased one, wired it in, it never would work at all. The screen would never turn on. Returned it and bought a second one. When I wired the second one in, the screen lit right up, it was simple to program and seemed to be working just fine. After leaving it overnight, I found the screen dead on the second one as well. I guess I should have expected it with cheap chinese junk.

December 26, 2016
Bought as a back up. I used this one as a replacement for a really cheap controller last Tuesday. Batteries at full charge. Then they ran down. Controller shut off. My have been a loose connection. Reconnected and charged batteries to 80%. 1.3 volts output to the load. Put a fully charged battery to the controller and still only had 1.3 volts. This one is junk. Not saying the Renogy is much better. Just changed one of them out for the same issues. It was 2 months old and a replacement for another one the quit for the same reason.

June 14, 2016
It does not read battery voltage accurately. The controller was reading my batteries were 14.7 volts, but when I checked with 3 different volt meters, the batteries read about 12.5 volts. The controller would not charge the batteries. Of course when I went to return, I happened to be 3 days past the 30 day limit, so I had to buy another brand controller.
Just didn't work, went back to my Renogy PMW controller
May 26, 2016
I purchased this Charge Controller as a budget alternative to the Renogy PWM Wanderer, which lacks an LCD, because I wanted more feedback about the voltage and amp hours I was receiving from my PV setup. I was tired of having to plug in my multimeter to get this info.Setup was simple, just connect the battery, and then the PV wires like my old controller. Unfortunately, after several days, I have come to the conclusion that this charge controller simple doesn't work. The PV "charging" indicator simply never indicating a charge was going to the battery, even though the battery would be recharging. (as indicated by increasing resting voltage on my multi-meter). It also never registered an Amp Hours coming from my PV, either, although clearly they were or my battery wouldn't have been charging.Through the day at random times, this charge controller would change to an intermittent "unhappy face" indicator, which is supposed to indicate a fault of some kind. However, after thoroughly investigating every connection in my system, twice, and even re-stripping reconnecting some wires "just in case", I was unable to find any fault. Nor did I ever register one on my multimeter. Pushing the reset button would always make the charge controller go back to "happy face" indicator, but the controller still did not ever indicate that my battery was charging.I thoroughly perused the "manual" (piece of paper) about fault conditions and there is nothing on there to indicate what might be happening. I finally concluded that this charge controller just doesn't work, or isn't very robust. In the end, I had to switch back to my Renogy PMW controller. It's working fine, charging along merrily as it always has, charging when it should, floating when it should, and shutting off current when it should. Without fault conditions.Sorry Sun YOBA, I don't know how I could possibly give a better rating, given my experience here.

Pointless tool
September 30, 2017
This ‘tool’ comes with connector packs, so this ended up being a waste of money. This tool really provides nothing to someone who is crimping their own connectors. It’s a single conductor cable, anyone can do it.

The jaws of these things are rounded off plastic.I threw them in the garbage. You do not need these if you have strong hands, and if you do not have strong hands then use 2 pairs of vise grips.
Slow arrival
April 10, 2016
Didn't use them. I couldn't buy them normally as they were some kind of tricky "add on" item, so by the time I got them the work was done. If you buy MC4s and $600 worth of panels Renogy needs to throw them in free.

Useless! The prongs would not engage the release catch on the conectors. The spanner does not grip the gland nut enough to make a tight fit. spanner
Didn't work for my connectors.
November 25, 2014
Didn't work with my MC connectors. An installer's tool (red in color) looked nearly identical in shape, however the 2 pins at the end and the 2 pins perpendicular to the main body of this are pointier than those on the red tool, and don't engage the release tabs on the connector.
