it was the perfect gift for him
July 22, 2016
Bought this as a father's day present for my husband in 2015. I've taken awhile to get to this review as he hasn't had much chance to use it up until this year. Anywho, it was the perfect gift for him. He loves it, just says he wishes it had a laser beem to make his job a little easier. It's not too heavy to lift and move whereever. I even pick it up at times. It's done a lot of cutting on woods and such. The brand Hitachi is a good brand, and I look forward to looking at other products in the future to buy for him.
I am happy so far...
June 13, 2016
I have only used this a very limited amount cutting a few 2x4's. It cut those perfect. I will update my review later after I have really used it to cut angles and 4x4's.Update** This saw works excellent still! cuts through wet treated 4x4's like nothing. Great at cutting angles too!
Great no frills saw
June 9, 2016
As a beginner and miter saw newb, this is all I could ask for. It's not fancy or decked out, but I wouldn't know what to do with one that is, so I give it 5 stars. The laser is dead on and can be turned on or off - fantastic newb option. Also, I wonder how many negative reviews these saws have about burned out motors bc people don't use the proper extension cords for a 15 amp saw. You cannot use these with a standard cord you use for your Christmas lights. The longer the cord the more power in line loss you have. The smaller gauge the less power is transmitted which results in a stressed out motor not being supplied enough power to do the job it was created to do. Buy a 12/3 or 10/3 outdoor cord for this saw and you won't burn your motor up under a load. The shorter the extension cord, the better for your saw and less line loss is created. See my picture of recommended gauge for amperage levels by Milwaukee Tools.
The instructions weren't the greatest but there is very little to assemble
March 19, 2016
The instructions weren't the greatest but there is very little to assemble. The included blade cuts surprisingly well. The dust collection, as has been pointed out, is pretty minimal. You are going to make a mess. Some have said the laser is a gimmick and isn't aligned but I found it to be dead accurate and a huge help. One safety note: there is an On/Off switch on the handle. On turns on the laser, and I assumed, the saw. Nope. The switch is just for the laser. The saw is live anytime you press the trigger as long as it is plugged in. In retrospect, I get it. But it sure was a surprise when I went to move it by the handle with the switch off.
excellent for the do-it-yourselfer
February 5, 2016
Very good for the price - just what I needed for some random fencing and landscaping work around the house. I'll use it for interior trim soon, and maybe make my own bookcases. The safety is easy to disengage and allows it to be easily carried around. You can screw it to the workbench if you want. It was a little difficult to figure out you have to push the handle down to allow the swing for angle changes - the instructions were not very clear but we figured it out. The motor does not struggle and the blade made clean cuts. I like that it's a standard size for easy replacements. Good buy!
Amazing!
January 2, 2016
I was going to buy a 10inch dewalt miter saw. I figured for about $210 it wasn't a bad deal for a saw that I used for a number of years prior to now. I've bought a couple other cheap ones and they do okay for about $100 but they don't cut totally square every time so when I'm doing more fine work it really just doesn't Get the job done. This saw changed that completely; it is spectacular, seriously. The 5 year warranty is great to have, it cut square immediately out of the box and has plenty of power. The blade it comes with isn't too bad either, though I still put a Freud combination blade on it just to be safe. One thing I noticed is that there isn't any wobble when it's straight up; if you push against the handle a bit the only thing that flexs is the handle not anything else so it can only cut square versus cheaper models often have some movement and require much more care and aren't always accurate. For $120 this is a steal in my opinion because all you have to do is get it out of the box, plug it in, and cut. Seriously, I cannot recommend this saw enough even for professionals like myself. Hitatchi has a new fan and I can promise I will be buying more very soon!

Very satisfied. Saw is well built
September 4, 2017
Purchased Jan 2016, reviewed Sept 2017. Light use for home projects. Very satisfied. Saw is well built, the tolerances seem tight and the present cutting angles are accurate. No play or sloppiness in the set up. A precision machine. Saw comes with a 32 tooth general purpose blade. I never used it. Replaced the stock blade with an 80 tooth Diablo (Red) blade (Item:D1280X) for fine finish cuts. Runs like a champ, cuts smooth & clean, zero tear outs. Also purchased DEWALT DWX726 Rolling Miter Saw Stand. I am delighted with it. EASY to move around, saves space in my shop and allows me to roll the saw outside so that I don't have saw dust all over my house. The vacuum attachment to the saw is Okay but there is still sawdust regardless. I roll the saw outdoors and cut outside 99% of the time. The rolling stand is well worth my money, smart move for me.
Makes the job easy
June 26, 2017
This saw is easy to operate and makes beautiful cuts. I don't think you need a laser since after a short while you figure out how to place the blade You can slice away tiny accurate slivers until you are where you want to be.
The saw is quite big and heavy and definitely a workshop piece. If I'd buy again I would go for the 10" which is smaller, more portable, and adequate for most home projects. Also, the blades are cheaper which makes a difference since you definitely need an 80 tooth saw blade as well.

It's a big saw, but still semi-portable. Makes quick work of my rustic furniture projects around the house, and has the precision and skill that I need for custom jobs.
I made good decision for once
July 5, 2016
It was a perfect buy. I have read about other brands and how you had to align the angles up. When I got mine it did not need anything adjusted. Made a few cuts and I love everything about it. Words do describe how it feels when you pull down the handle and every cut is on. I worked on the farms for years and am a custom to having to do everything myself.I feel with a little practice I can master more jobs than before. Good buy and worth every penny it cost me.
Perfect size for 4 x 4s
June 3, 2016
We love this saw. It's great quality with the functions we needed at a great price. We only do simple angle cuts and still have plenty of exploring to use to see how fancy we can get. We wanted a larger blade to be able to cut through 4 x 4s as opposed to having our lumber store cut everything for us or having to do a two-swipe pass on a table saw. Its near impossible to find such a quality saw with this size blade at a reasonable price. We are very pleased with this purchase.

Terrible Instructions For Setup
August 26, 2017
Terrible setup instructions. Only supplied 2 screws, one for sub fence, and one for back holder. No screw or bolt was supplied for side holder.Manufacturer settings and stops for angles were off and I had to readjust them. Back lever to release bevel adjustment was stuck and I had to tap it with a hammer to get it to move the first time.It appears well made, but I have not used it yet because I'm too exhausted from 3 hours of trying to set it up.
I love this Miter Saw
July 10, 2017
I love this Miter Saw. I needed one to cut 12 mm thick wood laminate flooring and this has been great. I never used the original blade but replaced it with a $10 Irwin (IRWIN Tools Classic Series Steel Table / Miter Circular Saw Blade, 10-Inch 180T (11870)) 180-tooth blade (not recommended - see my review on it) then with a wonderful Avanti 60-tooth blade (Avanti Pro Fine Finish 10" 60 Tooth Thin Kerf Blade - 2 Pack) I got at my local big orange (HD) home improvement store. I bought the Hitachi saw when it was $99. I had never used a Miter Saw before but my wife who is helping with this project, had used one before. The instructions leaves much to be desired but we figured out what we needed to. We have only used it for straight cuts so far but it's a wonderful saw.
It cut fine after a few issues.
February 5, 2017
I hope this review helps others avoid the issues I was faced with. I was very happy to recieve this saw. Unlike others, it was well packed and arrived without damage. However, the instructions are terrible! Why can't these people spend as much time correctly translating the English part as they do the French and Spanish. The real trouble started when I took inventory. I thought I was missing the 10mm Box wrench, but during fiddling with attempting to assemble all the accessories to the saw I discovered the wrench mounted on top of the frame between the motor and the blade. A few notes to all: 1) The Holder (B) mounts to the rear of the saw frame to keep it from tilting rearward. It is bent in such a way that it only contacts the the workbench surface if mounted in one direction. 2) If the Vise Assembly is mounted on the right (of the blade) it may block the motor if it is not exactly positioned correctly, which seems like it's useless there. 3) It was difficult to mount the Sub Fence and Plate (A) together so the plate either locks the sub fence in place, prevent wear at the bolt between the two fences, or what ever it's supposed to do.After mounting and bolting it down to a work table I finally finally got to cut some wood, which it does exceptionally well. The blade and motor are vibrationless and it easily and accurately cut the scrap wood framing I was using. I have a few 80 tooth 10 in. blades that will probably cut MDF or plywood smoother than the original blade installed so I'll replace it with one of those. I may even buy a non-ferrous metal blade for extruded alumnum framing I need to occasionally cut.
Works fine for basic cutting of aluminum.
January 25, 2015
I use this for cutting aluminum. It basically works fine, but there are two drawbacks. The first is that I now realize that a 12" blade would be better for cutting aluminum sheet. This 10" blade is fine for cutting aluminum tube, channel, etc. The second is that what appears to be a system for catching the flying aluminum shards doesn't do anything. I tried hooking up my shop vac and that didn't work either. My expectations might be unreasonable, but aluminum just goes flying all over the shop when cutting with this saw, requiring extensive cleanup. I'm not very experienced, though, so this may be normal?Oh, yeah, of course you need to buy a special blade for cutting aluminum (around $50), since the blade that comes with the saw is for wood.
No laser but very serviceable.
December 7, 2014
There are probably better saws out on the market, but the price was right and it seems to do all I need it to do. I actually bought two of these, had one at the house in Colorado and needed one at my daughters house in Connecticut, so I picked up second one and left at her house.I really like the horizontal handle, vertical ones hurt my hands and are awkward. The dust bag is pretty much useless, most are on this kind of equipment, if you want to get rid of dust, hook it up to a vacuum or just learn to live with the sawdust. The original one I bought claimed to come with a laser guide, it didn't and still doesn't.
the handle is very comfortable. The instructions were very difficult to understand
September 15, 2014
The saw arrived in a timely manner. It was very well packaged, coming in an Amazon box with the saw inside in a Hitachi box. The Hitachi box was exceptionally well packaged. The motor ran smoothly; the guard retracted as it should; the handle is very comfortable. The instructions were very difficult to understand, apparently written by a barely adequate English-speaker. The base is cast, not machined. The base and the extension did not line up perfectly; I put several pieces of tape on the extension table and it lined up. The fences on either side lined up perfectly. The material hold-down is marginal at best. There is a spring left over from assembly that I can't figure out its purpose; again, the instructions are vague. The bevel degree reading was 5 degrees when the saw was at 90 degrees. After several hours of puzzling over this, I realized that the red pointer degree indicator was loose. Putting it at zero easily solved this problem. Everything I read said all miter saws need to be calibrated, even if set at the factory. I don't consider the adjustments a big deal. In spite of the issues, I think the saw is a good value for the money.

Nice saw.

Not to anyone buying this unit, it is now the version 3 unit, it will not accept the Dewalt laser line adapter kit. but there are others that will fit it, for less money I might add. Nice saw.
Good Saw, But Check The Fence
March 13, 2017
This is a good miter saw for the money, but I would strongly recommend immediately checking that the fences are parallel. DeWalt has (or had) a problem with their fence castings, and mine was bowed (see photograph). Unfortunately, I did not discover this for two years, since I was primarily cutting long boards, where the bowing did not show up. It was only when I started cutting small pieces that I discovered the problem.

I took the saw to a DeWalt Service Center, where I found out that 1, the three year warranty on defective parts is virtually useless, since the manager accused me of abusing the saw, and 2, they are in denial about the problem.

The service technician who ground the fence flat admitted that he had seen the problem multiple times but had “no idea how it got that way”. The manager claimed that the one piece aluminum fence would bend easily, so it must be my fault, but didn’t explain how the bolts to attach the fence still lined up perfectly and why the technician ground the fence to get it parallel rather than just bending it straight (I tried bending the fence straight, but it wouldn’t budge).

They were going to charge me $110 to fix a $220 saw. I refused to pay it and kept insisting (loudly) that it was a factory defect. The manager finally agreed that the fix would be under warranty (just to make me go away, I am sure), but said my warranty for the saw would no longer in effect for anything. Since the saw has been perfect other than the fence, I was happy to agree. If the manager had not relented, I would have salvaged my blade, and left the saw there and simply bought another one.

Anyway, if you check the fence with a straight edge as soon as you get the saw and it is not parallel, you can either return it or take it to a Dewalt Service Center where they will not be able to claim that you abused the saw.

Other than the fence, this has been a reliable and accurate miter saw. I did buy a better blade (Freud LU88R012 Industrial Thin Kerf Fine Finish Crosscut Saw Blade 12 inch x 80t ATB 1 inch arbor) at the same time I bought the saw, which brings up a weird fact. The manual says to “always use 12" (305 mm) saw blades with 1" (25.4 mm) arbor”, but the saw actually takes a 5/8" arbor. An adapter is necessary to use a blade with a 1" arbor. An adapter was provided with the saw. If I had known this, I could have bought my replacement blade with the proper arbor size.
So far it's been a very good saw for installing trim but calibrate it!
November 19, 2015
So far it's been a very good saw for installing trim. Couple gotchas though. Make sure you calibrate the bevel angle (you'll notice when mitering baseboard and scarf joints because they won't match up and will have gaps). Dewalt could have made it easier to calibrate the bevel but as it designed it's tricky because you have to cut, measure with right angle, then move it very small increments (this is the hard part), cut and repeat until it measures 90 at both 45s. The miter angle was calibrated correctly from the factory. I built some simple supports with 2x4s to support 16' lengths of baseboard and casing, with the saw on the floor. It's definitely not ideal with lots of bending over but much cheaper than a table with 16' arms. I replaced the blade with a Diablo 80 tooth, which makes a very fine cut. The stock blade is fine for rough lumber but will leave tear-out on your nice mouldings
and they both work like a champ
July 23, 2015
My father in law let me borrow his for a couple months. His is several years old, and they both work like a champ. This one has a better angle adjustment.

It loses a star, however, because changing blades is unnecessarily difficult. Annoying when you just want to make a couple quick cuts with a finish blade, and it takes a little bit to switch them out.
I like it - my new favorite tool
December 11, 2013
Feels solid and cuts well. Wish it had some graduations to allow for cutting without pre-measuring (for those jobs that don't require much precision). I placed a large garbage bag in the back of the unit to capture the wood shavings better. The bag does collect some but as expected, there is lots to go around everywhere (not really an issue).
This is my first saw and I didn't want a lot of extra options since I will primarily be using for smaller projects a couple of times/year. I wish it would be able to cut a 9inch planck but had to do it in two parts (perhaps there are some adjustments that I am not aware of yet). So a sliding miter saw may be better for those wider plancks but all in all it does what it's supposed to do and does it well. 4 stars only since I am just starting to use it and am not sure of how all the other options work.

Poor quality control
August 1, 2017
Poor quality control. Missing 10 mm wrench to change blade. Missing bolt. Pre sets not aligned. Laser doesn't work. Poor instructions to set up saw. However, I put a 60 tooth blade on this saw to cut quarter round for base shoe to finish a vinyl plank floor I installed and it saved me hours over a hand saw and box.
... the reviews would lead you to believe it gets pretty close but not nearly accurate enough for like picture ...
April 25, 2017
Decent miter saw not nearly ass accurate as the reviews would lead you to believe it gets pretty close but not nearly accurate enough for like picture frames had to go back to the table saw and sled to get really accurate cuts that being said great saw for the job site and seems to cut at a 90 true
Very basic - entry level.
February 20, 2017
The saw cuts well, but it's small and very basic. Instructions to assemble were terrible and I'm good at assembly. Suppose I'm used to better saws but wasn't expecting this level of entry...
Hitachi miter saw
May 15, 2016
Saw takes a long time to get to full speed on the blade. Shipped with a poor quality Blade, lots of deflection of this big blade. I would not order again, definitely NOT for fine woodworking!
Don't Buy if Cutting Large Angles on 6" or Wider Boards
November 9, 2015
This saw had great reviews from here and popular mechanics is why i bought it. I was first time miter saw buyer. Though if your not familiar with these saws there were some things i did not like. I bought this saw because I was installing a wood floor, the room I was installing the wood needed some 45 degree cuts, this saw could not do it in one pass had to flip it over and cut twice, which is kind of annoying. Wood boards are 6" in width. If i knew this i wouldn't of bought this saw, I would of bought a saw with a larger blade. Also the dust bag collection works somewhat, there is wood shavings all over my garage. Other than those two issues the saw works great.
Works as expected. Not sure about the build quality though.
August 3, 2015
Purchased this saw in June. I didn't get around to my project until last week.Unfortunately, the mounts are not made of metal, it's more of a composite. One of the mounts was damaged in shipping so I can't bolt down all four corners during use.Not happy about the way the tool was packed. Seems to me that it wouldn't be too difficult to put some extra packing in the corners.Anyhow.... that said, the saw works as it should. Cuts 2X4's without issue and didn't trip the 15 amp circuit breaker in my garage when it was under load.Haven't tried any fine cuts so I'm not sure how accurate the laser is.

Box was missing the blade wrench and the dust bag ...
June 14, 2017
Box was missing the blade wrench and the dust bag, as well as an instruction manual. So I'll leave a review of the saw once I can actually use it!
Build quality lax like the arm
February 20, 2017
Some slight play in arms that allows blade to move 1/64" (at full cut) to side if not very careful with push into cut. Used older DW706 before without this slop.
I love the Dewalt brand
December 10, 2016
The miter saw is exactly what I wanted, I love the Dewalt brand... the only problem I have is the blade has come loose and I've had to fix it three times just today and this is my first time using it.
Sadly incomplete.
August 27, 2015
Received yesterday and put right to work framing. The saw was fully assembled and true and cut well.
Would be 5 stars, but: I went through the saw and packaging several times looking for the steel tube extension that holds long material level with the saw, but IT ISN"T IN THERE! This seems like a cheap attempt to get us to buy the portable stand that has material extension bars, but would be unusable on a bench. C'mon Dewalt, we endure all kinds of sneering when we show up to work with yellow tools, and still we do it. Please, sell complete tools, that bar is necessary for virtually all cuts with this saw, put it in the box!
The Dewalt website does offer an extension bar for this saw, it shows 1.5 stars for 4 reviews, but the reviews aren't available. The bar isn't a bent steel tube but two rods with a flat metal piece screws into the end.
Beware, brother, beware: It is not exactly a DW715. But it is.
August 11, 2015
A quality saw.
But.
It should be called the "DW715-3" so the customer could have a fighting chance.
You see they designed out compatibility with their own accessories labelled "for the DW715".
Don't go buy the DWS7085 LED light - it's really cool, but it is not for you. So sad!
I don't know how many accessories won't work (a few? a lot?)...
It's really hard to tell, and that's exactly why DeWalt should fire the fool that pushed for this.

Problems with Standard Accessories
June 19, 2017
Missing Standard Accessories in my box. Hitachi said they were optional accessories even though I sent them pictures and instructions that show them as Standard Accessories and the Amazon picture that proved it. Amazon is great and will replace, but it should not be that way and Hitachi should send these items.
Hitachi Quality and Engineering is Going Downhill!!!!
April 20, 2017
Hitachi screwed up on this one! I'm an avid Hitachi tool user, have their nailers, saws, 2 of the previous model of this Mitre Saw, and when I needed one for my son I added it to my cart and had it shipped. Both of mine are mounted to Dewalt saw stands, so I ordered him one of those also. Here's the rub, they moved the front mounting bolts closer than the rears, so I guess you can only use their stands! Quality has taken a hit also, I can tell because I've got one of my C-10FC's sitting right next to it. Indexing (angle) plates are cheaply painted, and new ones are riveted to the base and wiggle around. Not good when you need consistent cuts! The blade guard and trigger have been downgraded also, I haven't even fired it up yet and can definitely feel the difference in quality.Amazon is of course 100% on the order, but I've got to send it back. Not good news, Hitachi!
Cracked base, spend the $ and get the Dewalt
January 24, 2017
Similar to many other reviews, the saw arrived damaged but without any obvious marks on the outside of the box. Mine had a large crack in the front right mounting hole and up the entire side of the base, really surprised how incredibly thin the metal is in those areas, my old piece of junk Harbor Freight saw was a lot more substantial. Returned for a refund and ordered the 12" Dewalt for $60 more, pretty sure it will be money well spent.

The 10mm box wrench was missing from the package. In the manual, it says this specific wrench is needed to replace the saw blade.
A good value if you don't need perfect accuracy and quality cuts
October 13, 2016
I'm a hobbyist woodworker, and I picked this up when I was just starting out before I could find a good price on a table saw. I've since learned a lot and gotten some more accurate measuring devices (and higher standards). The saw did just fine cutting 2x4s for a rustic farmhouse bed, but it wasn't until now that I noticed there's a noticeable wobble that I can't correct. This means I have to live with cuts that aren't straight, or clean them up on a shooting board. Thus, I find myself doing all my crosscuts on the table saw now.The cut is square, since I calibrated the saw to be exactly 90 degrees to the fence, but it isn't uniform along the entire line of the cut. Having a straight cut is kind of the most basic thing you can ask of a power tool, even if it can't cut at the exact right angle. If I wanted a wobble cut with gaps in it I would cut with a hand saw.The geometry of the defective cuts is identical for three different blades - fine toward the top, then wide-ish gap toward the middle that tapers to mostly closed again at the bottom. The edge itself is rough and uneven and square in some parts and not in others. I suspect it is caused by a defect in the arbor or one of the washers on the arbor. I'm still waiting on word from warranty support. Until then, this saw is for rough cuts *only*. You may have better luck - having owned only one, I can't tell if I got a lemon or if this is a case of you get what you pay for.As for the saws other qualities:ProsThe saw is nice and stable, even without clamps or screws holding it down.It is comfortable and intuitive to use, and operates smoothly. It is very portable - you can lock it in a lower position and carry it around by the handle. For a while I kept it in the corner of the garage and lifted it onto my workbench when I needed it.Accurate enough once calibrated. It is no kapex, but it is probably the best miter saw for $100.ConsThe blade it comes with is atrocious. It would be better if they dropped the price by 5 bucks and left out the blade entirely. It has like 10 teeth. The instructions are ludicrously hard to figure out. I found myself scanning the tiny, randomly organized text for 10 minutes just to find out something like "how to set the bevel angle." It probably took me a day to figure everything out about it. I don't want to go into how long it took to figure out about the locking pin. Again - first miter saw.The fence is not perfectly square, according to several expensive miter, double and combo squares. The fence extensions aren't all that useful. I frequently found that using my own clamps was impossible because of the shape and design of the fence didn't give me a surface to clamp to.The central saw plate is flimsy, not flush with surrounding surface and not adjustable. The clamp system barely works. It has barely any range, so it doesn't work with small stock. It isn't strong or stable enough to hold down long stock. It is slow and finicky to adjust. The stock tends to shift while clamping down. It is cheap looking and feeling. The miter and bevel angle were both off from the factory. I had to measure with a digital angle gauge and with a try square, then adjust the stops to the current setting. The bevel was way off, the miter was only a little off. Most of these problems, other than accuracy ones, aren't a huge deal. It is the accuracy that really hurts. The rest is just fit and finish problems that all add up. Even if my bad cuts are just a freak accident, there's enough wrong with this saw to warrant a poor review. Still, it is probably the best you can get for $100. You should probably spend a little more, unless you *only* need it for DIY stuff around the house and don't care if its inaccurate, or are willing to adjust it until it is accurate.
The meter never goes back to "0"
September 26, 2013
The one I bought is a "reconditioned" one. However, It shouldn't have been a "mis-miter saw", the angle of my saw is always deviate to the right angle so that it's impossible to calculate the angle when I was cuting the laminate floor and foot board. I do recomend you to buy on which has a precise miter on it if you do need it to calculate and cut something.

Long time DeWalt fan very disappointed with this product
June 7, 2017
Very difficult to change blade. Ended up taking to factory outlet for assistance as directions very vague. Cannot cut 5" baseboard on right side of blade as motor hits board before blade cuts through the piece. Arbor nut loosens and needs to be retightened way too often. This is an unacceptable safety issue. Dirtiest chopsaw that I have ever used in terms of sawdust not being collected in dust bag.
Need to list the "Type" in the technical details section for the Dewalt DW715
February 11, 2016
The product details don't specify which "Type" of model DW715 this is, and evidently it makes a difference, because the DEWALT DWS7085 Miter-Saw LED Work Light System that I also ordered through Amazon, doesn't fit it, even though the advertised specification for the Work Light System indicates it will fit the DW715: Type 1 & 2. The Work light would fit the DW715 saws I've seen in the stores.
Different types of DW715 saws
July 25, 2013
Be careful when ordering this saw if you want to add the Dewalt laser apparatus. There are at least three types of this saw with the same product number. The type III, which I bought from Amazon, does not allow one to add the Dewalt laser. Neither DeWalt nor Amazon makes this clear until you're in the basement trying to put on the laser and it does not fit. A call to the Dewalt people makes this problem clear, but that doesn't help.
Not Compatible with DEWALT DWS7085 Miter-Saw LED Work Light System
November 26, 2012
Other review's do a good job explaining the functionality of the saw - and the current price is good. The problem is that the saw shipped by Amazon and found now in most stores is a "Type 3" The current saw is NOT compatible with the DEWALT DWS7085 Miter-Saw LED Work Light System. I gave the saw 2 stars because on Amazon's web site and Dewalt's state that it IS compatible. The representative's at Dewalt's phone center our very ware of the problem and they also wished that there own website would be updated. A second rep told me the change was a cost savings initiative by Dewalt.I am very disappointed with the misrepresentation because some people like myself may have bought the saw at a good price and where waiting to buy the LED light when it was also cheap. I got lucky and found out early.
Incompatible with LED/Laser Light Kits
October 3, 2012
Apparently Dewalt made a revision to this saw's design (revision 3). The new revision is not compatible with either the laser or LED light kits from Dewalt (the handle doesn't support the switch module and the guard isn't wide enough to wrap around the light module).

I was on the fence about buying this saw in the first place because of its lack of a laser guide (especially at this price point) and its poor laser attachment reviews. I overcame this when I was reading the great reviews of the LED system, which almost sounded better than a laser. Now I'm stuck with an expensive saw that doesn't have either and also have to deal with returning the LED kit or jury rigging something possibly unsafe.

This mislabeling is frustrating. Dewalt should have changed the model number if they were going to break compatibility with important accessories. As far as I'm concerned, if you're buying this saw, you're buying an unsupported product (e.g. Dewalt will leave you out in the cold). I called customer service and they know about the issue but don't have any plans to fix it other than updating their documentation (rather than designing a compatible light). I would likely get the Skil w/ the built in laser for much less money than deal with this if given the same options again.

Would give zero stars if I could.Out of the box, out of alignment.Even after adjusting wont go to 45 degrees.Clamp handle almost impossible to turn, overtightened at factory.Bolt on Blade overtightened at factory almost impossible to loosen without two men.Grease all over multiple parts and fence.
Cheap. Poorly made. Very short lifetime.

Do not buy this saw, The base cracked after a few uses. Now it is an expensive door stop. Forget about returning it. I contacted Hitcahi customer service online and received no response or even acknowledgment.

Very disappointed. Returned after 2 hours of use!

After extensive research and reading tons of reviews, I decided on the DW715. I received the saw within 2 days, shipping was great, no damage. As I was unpacking the saw, I noticed a screw in the bottom of the Styrofoam packaging. I read through the manual and looked the unit over and couldn't figure out where it came from. I plugged the saw in and started working. I can say that the cuts were square right out of the box, the saw cut right through the 2x4 with ease, unfortunately that only lasted for about 20 cuts. After that, the saw speed slowed down significantly, I again went to the manual and then to Google to troubleshoot.....the only thing I the manual says is the power from the house may be the issue and to contact my electric company (!??!?!?!). I tried a different outlet, same problem, even took it to my neighbors house, same problem. The blade speed was so slow, as soon as it hit the wood, it stopped.
I'm hoping this was an isolated issue, but for a big name like Dewalt, I was expecting much better.
Disappointing Miter Saw
July 30, 2016
The very first thing I found odd was than you could square up the blade perfectly to the fence, tighten up everything and then test a cut. The cut would not come out square? I used the saw on a improvement job cutting 1" or less material and the blade became loose 5 times within a one hour span. I would re-tighten and it would just do it again. I finally tightened the blade with more force than needed and it seemed the blade stayed on at least through that job. But that should not be the case for any saw? I have had the saw about three weeks and it is disappointing. This is the third miter saw I have owned in over 40 years of woodworking, so I'm no novice. My past saws were Makita. It also seems the blade is wobbly...like the bearings aren't quite set right? I love the lay out and handling of the saw. The adjustments are very handy and well laid out, but this machine is disappointing, to be polite. Definitely being returned.
Very disappointed.

Cannot believe I bought this product and it came out of the box with gear problems. The gear box was missing screws which means that the saw blade came spinning off when turned on. The entire spindle and gear box just falls of. The factory did not complete this product. Very disappointed.

Dewalt has removed the pre-wired LED and Laser attachment capability and has not even bothered to add a LED nor Laser to take place of this feature. Another example of great product initially when it comes out and becoming a cheap Taiwan made scaled down version after riding on great reviews from old models. The greedy Dewalt cost sawing has killed this saw for me. I have been a long time Dewalt saw owner of Type 1 and Type 2 model with all the great features and officially switching to Rigid now.
Base does not rotate
March 7, 2015
I had to return this miter saw and am currently waiting on a replacement. The base would not rotate at all. I finally realized that the base was cocked in the frame. The left fence was jammed against the base while the right fence had a huge gap. There was some sort of shim between the base and frame that was installed offset and appeared to be causing the issue. Seems to be a bad design / poor manufacturing control for this to have left the factory. A miter saw that doesn't miter is kind of pointless! Hopefully the replacement will be good and if so I'll update my rating.
