love it
January 16, 2017
Love this design been wanting one for a while
Great space saver.
March 4, 2015
Nothing hugs a wall like this tool. I sold my DeWalt CSM saw b/c it could knock down stuff behind it, and would have to have a cave carved out of the wall behind it if you needed the room. I also love the bevel lock being in FRONT of the saw! The DeWalt was an earlier model, and I had to stretch way out to grab the lock knob while at the same time look straight down on the gauge behind the blade. Kinda like a Control-Alt-Delete thing.
The only complaint I have about the Bosch is the weight- It's a lot heavier than the DW, but the plan is to have it set up in the cabinet shop and left there. If I need to move it, I have a stand that has wheels on one end (Kobalt from Lowe's- best one I have seen). I don't plan to need that big a saw on any job I take on, esp. since I am retired.

I also like the built-in extensions, and dust control is excellent. Hooked up to my Fein Turbo I, it leaves little on the floor or in the air. There's always some that gets away no matter what. I might play with making a bigger rubber scoop behind the blade though...

Some complain about the lateral freeplay- there is some, and my DW had about the same. Push sideways hard enough and you can move any saw off track. The trick is to use it the way it was designed- push and pull in a straight line. I have not had any accuracy issues with it.
Best wood shop purchase I ever made
January 29, 2015
Sweet. This is absolutely the best Miter Saw on the market today. There is no deflection on the angle as you approach the limit of the cut, a problem common with the saws that extend on slides. The articulated arms also do not extend as far behind the saw as the slides do on other models so the saw can sit back further and not extend as far into the shop floor. None of the miter saws on the market offer a high quality saw blade included in the original purchase - so when I say this comes with a medium quality blade that is all you will get with other brands too. Whatever you buy, if you are planning on smooth cuts and high quality results every time then budget for a blade upgrade - think Freud Industrial or equivalent. Also, this saw is heavy so plan on a good stand that will support it and transport it easily. I passed on the matching Bosch gravity stand at $300 and got the Delta equivalent for $150. It is substantial enough to handle this saw on the job and transporting, and operates just like the Bosch.
If you need this type of machine, buy this one.

We have had the saw for about three weeks. It arrived via delivery without any damage. Before purchasing this machine I researched Milwaukee, Hitachi, Freud, Dewalt, Makita, Festool & Jet saws. Here in Columbus we have a Woodwerks store that features Festool and I was given a hands on demonstration. At $1,400 it seems to be a great machine. But, the Bosch is also a great machine and the there is a substantial price difference. My Son and I have a cabinet shop and needed something to replace my 35+ year old Makita Model 2401 10" miter saw. For some time we have been cutting off hardwood boards that were beyond the ability of the small saw to accomplish safely. For over a year I was considering this machine. But at $750 I wanted to be sure it was durable, accurate with repeatability and user friendly. Two months ago Woodwerks raised the price to $799. I had decided that it would be a good idea to purchase it before the price went up again. Then I found Amazon had the saw for $599 including delivery. I have purchased several machines from them: 15" Jet Planer, 14" Jet Lathe, 18" Jet Bandsaw, Bosch Barrel jigsaw and others. All have arrived as promised without damage. So I have a high confidence factor with Amazon purchases.
It was easy to spend this money on this saw.

Others have criticized the weight, the noise, the inaccuracy, etc. I would like to comment on each of these points:
WEIGHT: The Makita 2401 weighs in excess of 50#. It was one of the first Japanese Miterboxes to come to America. It has been virtually indestructable. The Bosch 12" Saw weighs less. But because it is larger, there is a physical handling aspect that you should respect if you move it from site to site. It is certainly not as light as my Son's DeWalt 12" box. Don't let negative reviews scare you.
ACCURACY: I have never purchased any piece of equipment that didn't require final adjustments. The factory settings are usually quite good out of the box. However, if you have to turn out superior work, each tool will require setup. Taking the time to go through the process provides you with knowledge of how to make the adjustments. It also allows you to understand when something is not right. Plan on spending 2 hours to make the needed adjustments to: 1. the miter detent plate and 2. the vertical scale. The manual is well written and relatively easy to understand. I used a 4"x4" cherry piece to check/adjust the horizontal and vertical cuts. I found that by adjusting the vertical indicator arrow to the left side it is easier to achieve a more accurate and repeatable angle adjustment since the vertical angle is not detented.
NOISE: The belt driven saws, like the Hitachi, are quieter since there is no gear clash. The Bosch is extremely quiet in comparison to the Makita 2401. I wear hearing protection when using machinery but this saw is much more ear-friendly than other saws I have used.
CUTTING HEIGHT ON MOTOR SIDE: One review complained that the saw was limited to 4.5" in height on the motor side. Anyone who has ever used the old Rockwell Sawbuck will remember the 7.5" blade. Yet we were able to make wide cuts in trim materials simply by taking advantage of the long range of motion when the workpiece is laid horizontally on the cutting table. The purpose of any SCM saw is to allow these cuts to be made by taking the time to understand the way to set angles in the flat plane. Cheat sheets are available on the internet to show you how to utilize this powerful aspect of the tool. If you do not intend to use this function, then this saw is not for you and you would do well to buy a DeWalt 12" miter saw.
KICK FROM NON-SOFT START MOTOR: try an older saw like the Makita. You will quickly understand that this is nit-picking in the extreme.
SAFETY SWITCHES: The saw has two safety switches on the top of the handle. You can cut from either side and find a easily located safety switch for either hand. Like any tool, there is a learning period. I know a man with 2 and half fingers missing who decided to defeat the safety switch on his miterbox. Learn to use it.
TABLE NOT FLAT: this table is flat.
UNPUBLISHED MEASUREMENTS: I mounted this saw on the left side of my workbench. I had to wait until I had the saw in my shop to get the measurements needed to set the height to match the workbench. There is no way I would ever take a written measurement as something to set a critical height. From unpacking to setting the saw's mounting surface (bench) and setting the saw in place took less than an hour. The reviewer used this factor as a reason to "knock down" the rating. This is unreasonable and shows that the review is flawed and unreliable at best.
DUST COLLECTION: There are few dust collection systems on any of the machines in my shop that would satisfy some of the ardent critics of this saw. Even the Festool at more than twice the price can't do that.
LASER - DIM: If you are novice, then the laser is important to you. If you are a craftsman, you rely on your eyes. I have not found a laser that can be as sharp as my old eyes.

Conclusion: this saw is the best of the type under $1,400. Woodwerks' repair department is full of DeWalt and Hitachi SCMs. The repair tech said that the Hitachi was the quietest and easiest to repair. The filled shelves speak volumes to me. Looking at the display models utilizing the two round tracks to support the sliding mechanism, I found side to side movement that was not present in the Bosch. I learned a lot about reading the various reviews, especially the writers who complained about things that are not really part of the machine. 90% favorable reviews to 10% disgruntled only proves you can't make everyone happy. If you need this type of machine, buy this one.
can't imagine this getting much better

Great saw, so glad I have it. I paired it with it's stand and I'm a proud owner. Whenver I turn it on I'm reminded how great it is.

My dad used it on a few 2x4s and the rubber plastic tube with the rubber lip broke on it. Presumably some larger debris flew up and the plastic couldn't take it.

I contacted Bosch and they routed my email to the right distro center and they sent me a part replacment within a few days. Despite their support channels not being perfectly streamlined it certainly wasn't a hassle. I just noticed a few CCs and Forwards that came back at the bottom of my email reply from them.

anyway the part went back on really easily, just a couple screws to remove and good as new. Maybe a fluke I don't know. Mayube the plastic isn't as strong. They got the part that's what Important.

Got this saw as a replacement. Right out of box cut 63 pieces of 2x2x1/4 angle. It handled it with no problem or hesitation. I expect this to be a welcome addition to my arsenal.

Dewalt quality!!
April 26, 2016
I bought this because I needed to make angled cuts on conduit pipe. This worked great for the job. I have owned many dewalt tools over the years and have been extremely happy with the quality. I'm still using a compound miter saw that I bought 20 or more years ago.
Great for chopping up metal tubing
August 13, 2015
Great for chopping up metal tubing. Can be used with sheet metal, but is pretty finicky with the thinner materials as the fence curves in at the bottom not giving a flat surface to push on.

I love this saw but it is very heavy
June 7, 2017
I love this saw but it is very heavy. It was between this and a dewalt saw and i chose the bosch for its buttery smooth action. It is for cabinetry and I am thrilled with how it cuts. My only complaint is the fence is not as adjustable as I would like but other than that this saw is amazing. It does great at most cuts but has limitations but what machine doesnt. I think a radial arm saw will fill my needs for what this saw doesnt do.
concerned but satisfied buyer
May 12, 2016
love the saw...very disappointed with shipping from ToolUp. The original box came in alarmingly terrible condition and I was very concerned about possible damage to the saw. Once I opened what was left of the box, I found the miter saw to be in good condition at first check.
My new money maker !

Needed to adjust bevel stops,a bit of a pain.Very nice saw, action unmatched.A little heavy ,but all compound miter saws are.
Controls for bevel cuts up front are great,Bosch is the only one who do this.I'm a finish carpenter by trade, so i'v used a lot of
different saws.
Great saw to save space!
November 29, 2013
I bought this saw to save space, and I'm glad that I did! I have a 2 car garage that I built a 1 wall workstation for. I wanted a miter saw that I could leave in place that didn't stick out so far that I wouldn't be able to pull a 2nd car in if I wanted to. My old saw was the Rigid dual bevel sliding miter, which is a great saw. But the sliding arms on the back made it way to big for my workstation. So I upgraded to the Bosch. When this saw is mounted up against a wall the fence is 13.5" from the wall. Which on my 24" deep work station leaves 10.5" of workbench supporting the wood it's whole length. The whole setup worked perfect, though I don't plan on bringing the 2nd car in it makes the wife happy to know that we can.

Once I removed and mounted the saw even with to my workbench tops, I found that the table was not flat across its width. The right side table sits higher. Light is able to shine through while my straight edge sits on it, but I'm not worried at all with the minimal amount.

I was however very concerned when I started making cuts! The saw was amazingly loud. It had a high metallic whining sound. Also the cuts were wavy! I double checked everything and made sure the blade was tight. I tried it again with the same results, I was very disappointed and was getting ready to contact amazon when I decided to put the Diablo blade on it that I normally use. I tried the saw once more and was amazed at how little noise the saw made. All I heard while making cuts was the hum of the motor. The cuts were perfect at every angle I tried, Problem solved!

I give this saw 4 stars because It won't let me give it 4.5 it truly is a great saw that I hope to use for years to come. I know that company's give you a basic blade to save cost. But this blade was truly junk! Which is very strange considering I always buy Bosch jig saw blade's because they are some of the best made. I thought for sure the miter blade would at least be good enough to cut studs and other wood that didn't need to have perfect edge. I'm going to assume that it was just a fluke, but I'm not sending my saw back just for the blade.

If you need a space saving saw this is the one for you!
Excellent value

Wanted to upgrade from my '80's 14" Makita; After looking at multiple reviews, checking the action on this saw, a Milwaukee, test cuts on the Festool Kapex and interviewing some of the folks at the local Woodcraft store, i decided on the Bosch. So far, so good. For me, the Kapex was too expensive to justify-especially for a 10" saw. After cutting with it I saw nothing that made me change my mind. My desire was for a versatile shop/jobsite solution w/a large cut capacity capable of cutting compound miters. Pairing this with the T4B stand was a good decision for my application.

I was a little disappointed in the height capacity limitations on the right hand side until I thought about it a bit. It's just inherent in the design of any mounted circular saw. The blade can be open on only one side. The opposite side will always be encumbered by the arbor mounting and motor. You just have to lay the tall material down and use the saw's tilt function. The adjustments are convenient so it's easy to change the saw orientation. It's also easier/safer to support long material flat on the table.

I've never experienced the laser indicators, so their absence wasn't a problem for me. I mark the material, line the blade up and cut...just like when I use my old Stanley miter and backsaw.:-)

The saw itself works great, but the dust chute came out of the package damaged... I had not tried to attached it until months after purchasing saw and when I did noticed it was broken. Replacement cost me $14 which isn't the end of the world, but I prefer new items to arrive undamaged. It was my fault for not checking the entire package more thoroughly upon arrival, but still pisses me off.
Bosch GCM12SD 120-volt 12-inch DB Glide Miter Saw Review
March 15, 2014
I was looking for a good sliding compound miter saw with good dust collection and minimum clearance in the back. Saw dust can bother my eyes and I have a small shop in my basement. The saw does not get much use as it is only used for small hobbie jobs so far. I plan go use it more this summer to put the trim around doors and floors.

I have had this saw for over a year. At this point it will say it has very good dust collection. I modified the soft plastic boot to make it larger and it improved the collection more. Most of the time I connect a vacuum to it and am well satisfied with it. The clearance in the back is of course also good. The negatives on this saw would be. It does not have a soft start. I knew this before i bought it, but am quite surprised with the kick, as my son's Dewalt does not kick this hard. I am very sorry that this saw does not have a shadow or laser mark for sawing alignment on the work piece. Again I knew this ahead and even contacted Bosch directly before i purchased to ask if they planned to add. This is a real oversight in my opinion for an expensive tool like this. Hopefully i will have more to say after i use it this summer for trim.
Smooth, but is it worth it?
March 12, 2012
There is no doubt that the slide action on this is as smooth as silk. But that is about where its good points end. The fences adjust easily and slickly. The detent stops are facing downward so they don't fill with saw dust - good thinking - but are plastic. Unless you buy the stand there is no way to carry this thing except to bend over and bear hug it. The handle to operate the saw seems like a poor spot to lift the whole thing. Adjusting the tilt is awkward at best - flip this, turn that, hold your mouth just right. The dead stop on the chop mechanism did not line up properly so would not work (and was flimsy). Bosch touts all front of saw controls but fail to mention that you have to use both hands to lock and unlock the tilt. The stop to hold the slide retracted or fully extended is neat - and robust. However, it is impossible to lock it in any other positions than at the ends of its stroke. I set this up side by side with a DeWalt DWS780. I set them both at their maximum angle and maximum tilt. First it was easier getting the DeWalt set up for that cut. They both cut nicely. The safety on the trigger on the Bosch was awkward. The DeWalt worked just how my hand expected it to. The DeWalt has a shadow line indicator (a light that shines over the blade)for aligning cuts. The Bosch had - well - nothing. Both offer optional lasers, but out of the box the Bosch was definitely lacking. While in that position I grabbed the handle and attempted to deflect the saws. The DeWalt had no wiggle unless I really torqued on it. The Bosch was not bad, but I felt like I could break it (probably couldn't) if I gave it everything I had. It moved much more than the DeWalt. Every cut I tried with the Bosch made me feel like I had no idea what I was doing. The tool just doesn't fit. The DeWalt felt like I had been using it for years - everything just as expected.
I returned the Bosch and the very slick T4B stand and kept the DWS780 with the DWX726 stand (also very slick). The DeWalt was a combo deal for $599 + tax - about $650. The Bosch was more like $980 all told. No contest. If you want to go with something less robust Hitachi has a nice one for $400. I plan to keep mine and use it for a long time so the DeWalt made sense to me.

Now if you were planning to set this up on a fixed bench and do nothing but intricate little work, the silky smooth slide action may be just what you need. But to throw in the back of a truck and haul it to a job site - not so much.
Bosch Mitre Saw
July 1, 2011
This is a great saw if you don't cut 5 1/4 base on a regular basis. The specs say that it's cuts 6 1/4 vertically and it can but when you try to make a 45degree cut vertically to the right, the motor housing gets in the way. As a professional finish carpenter, this is a big problem, causing more time flipping the material or cutting it on the flat. I wish the discription would have mentioned that, because I would not have purchased the saw.
Table not flat, will not adjust fully to 90 deg.
March 4, 2011
I purchased this saw in late December '10 anticipating needing it a few months later. Now, three months later, I am ready to put it to use but find that the saw is set 4 degrees off of 90. this should be no problem, the manual gives nice directions on adjusting this 90 degree stop as well as both the left and right 45 degree stops. Just like any chop saw you use a square to to check and adjust this. The problem though is that this saw's table is not flat. It is dished in the middle with the outer edges of the table higher than the center. *If* I were able to ajust the 90 degree stop with the square on one side of the blade, it wouldn't be square to the table on the other side of the blade. Not good! To make matters worse, this saw is not able to full adust to closer than 3 degrees off 90! After sitting on this saw for three months I have missed Amazon's return window. Two calls to Bosch has yet to produce results and currently I'm waiting on a call back from someone further up the ladder; I will post update on that.

I really want to like this saw, but in it's current state, it's useless to me.

*UPDATE*
Bosch was very helpful! They sent me a new saw without requiring me to pay anything up front. This time they packaged it inside another larger box and I was to take my damaged saw and return it in the replacement saw's box. I believe that the problems that I and other people have had is due to the original packing design (that by now has been improved?). If the box was set down hard(dropped)during shipping the weight of the saw comes down hard on the four wide-spread feet and bends the table
The new saw does not have any of the same issues and I am very happy. This saw meets my expectations and would recommend it to others.

This chop saw works very nice but i would like it to have a slightly stronger lift spring (the saw does not stay in the full up position very well) I also have found the deck to be slightly light weight (does have tiny amount of flex when clamping material) and the placement of the saw head hold down chain is terrible (gets in the way). For the money it is a good chop saw but i should have spent a little more for a better one.

Poor Quality for the Price
February 26, 2017
I had to make a lot of adjustments to get it to cut well. My Dewalt was perfect out of the box at half the cost. Dust collection even with the large dust hood 5000 hooked to my dust collector is very poor. I would not buy again and if it wasn't so much trouble I would send back. I have bought Bosch before and been happy but I guess their quality control in China is slipping. I use this in my shop and I would not want to transport it, much too heavy. I would look at some of the others and I should have stayed with Dewalt.
Alignment problem
May 22, 2016
I wonder how many owners check this, but the axis of the blade is not parallel to the line of travel of the glide, at least with mine. In other words, if you set the blade to 90 to the fence using an accurate square, and then follow the blade motion along the full glide, the blade path is not running 90 to the fence. Over a 10" travel the blade moves at least 1/16" from the square edge. If you set the glide path to 90 then the blade is not square to the fence. There is no means of adjustment to correct this. I didn't notice it for some time because I was doing fairly rough carpentry but for my furniture and cabinets the accuracy is not acceptable.
Not the upgrade I was hoping for...
December 31, 2015
UPDATE: So, after trying to dial this saw in I have found a few flaws. 1st. the fence is is disconnected in the middle, unlike many other saws. Because of this, it is possible for the fence to not be true to itself from the left side to the right side, which means your miters could be spot on on one side, and completely off on the other side. Using a straight edge from a machine shop, the fence was off roughly 1/16'' from side to side. Correcting this and squaring the fence up was a frustrating process.

2nd. setting the left side 45 bevel stop was a nightmare. there is a square shaped washer at the back of the saw with small "wings" on it that appear to be completely useless. The washer would dig into the housing of the saw preventing the saw from reaching a full 45 degrees. It would stop it at around 38 degrees. I had to disassemble the bevel lock mechanism and pull out the washer and grind down the wing that was catching in the housing. It gouged the housing so badly it has almost gone through it. I have included a terrible quality photo showing the washer and the wing that had to be rounded.

3rd. Glide does not track straight. So with the fence trued up, and the saw locked at dead 0 degrees, (exactly 90 degrees from the blade to each fence) when the slide is extended, long cuts are off by up to 2 degrees. If I square the blade up while it is extended, then short cuts next to the fence are off. This is regardless of which blade I use and how slow and deliberate I am with the cut. My squares say the same thing too.

After all of this, there is no way I would buy this saw again, Yes, the glide and space savings are nice... but no, I would never trade them for the design flaws and inaccuracies of this saw. I wish like crazy I had not given up my RIDGID saw now.

***Initial Review: So, I sold a RIDGID 12" sliding miter saw to "upgrade" to this. Straight out of the box, the blade was not square to the fence, or to the table. This is something I was disappointed about as other reviewers have said it showed up spot on and dialed in. The bevel release to bevel right is different than to bevel left (a two step process to release it to bevel right) which I find very annoying. The bed or "table" is much smaller than my RIDGID and will be something I miss. The material clamp is not a "quick" adjust as the RIDGID is, which means if you are clamping down materials of varying thicknesses, its time consuming. The slide action is smooth as butter, much better than the traditional rail system. I have had no issues with the dust collection port breaking off as other reviewers have. In fact, it seems quite sturdy to me. It may have been re-designed and fixed on my saw. The fence seems to be too far back. With the saw arm all the way down, the blade is barely fully cutting through the material in the corner of the fence and the bed, causing edge blowout on many materials including MDF (could also be the crappy blade that showed up on the saw). The thumb safety seems to be awkwardly placed and sized for somebody with huge hands. I have big hands and it is still a stretch for my thumb to hit it at the right angle to get it to go in.

Looking at the construction of the saw, the cast parts seem to be a little light duty compared to my last saw, which is crazy because this saw is heavier than hell. Hopefully they hold up.

I usually use LEITZ (German made) blades on my saw, and have a fresh one I will be putting on soon. As others have stated, changing blades sucks on this saw. Luckily I don't have to do it too often.

I have the saw mounted on my RIDGID stand, and they work well together. I will update as I get a few more weeks on the saw. If I can finally get it dialed in and it will hold 0 then I will be a bit more excited about this saw. Until then, I feel like I should have just stuck with what I had.
My table wasn't flat either
July 18, 2015
I order this saw a couple weeks ago. Table was not flat. Amazon quickly sent a replacement. Unfortunately, the table on the second saw was off even more than the first. My straightedge was rocking back and forth- I had almost a 1/16" gap at each end of the table with another substantial dip in the middle. I'm waiting for a response from Bosch. I really wanted to like this saw - some of the new features are great - but it isn't much use to me with a table that is so out of flat. I have seen numerous reviews by people who have had the same problem. Either this is a shipping/packaging problem or a manufacturing issue that Bosch is not addressing (which I hope is not the case).

**UPDATE 9/23/15**
After multiple emails to Bosch, I still haven't received a response. I visited my local home store where one of these saws was on display. Same exact issue with the table. Perhaps there are some saws out there without this flaw but I'm 0 for 3 so far. I'm disappointed that Bosch didn't even make an effort to problem solve this issue with me.
NICE DESIGN-POOR ACCURACY!
May 18, 2011
As a retiring Vocational Education teacher of 38 years, I have taught all subjects from machine shop to welding to cabinetmaking. I have also built 24 kitchens. I was hoping that this saw would be my last miter/radial arm but it was not to be. Bosch's shipping problems continue to plague this saw but it goes further than that. My saw was not true so I took it to the nearby Bosch Servicce Center. They replaced the base and said they 'set up' the saw accurately. When I brought the saw home, the same problems existed. When you set the saw to cut true at 90 degrees, then move the miter to 45 degrees, the cut is off by nearly 1/16" over a 6" miter. If your were trying to make a simple picture frame, your would have an embarassing result. My thought is that the problem lies in the fact that the fence is bolted directly to the case base and there is not way to adjust the fence independently of the base. I have been told that Bosch plans to ship these saws on a pallet but that does me no good. I think I will go with the Makita.
I agree with the reviewers who say that for rough cuts, this is indeed a great saw. But for the money invested and for the accuracy desired, it's not worth the risk of shipping damage.

Not the best saw for mild steel
August 8, 2017
I decided to try this saw for use in a welding project. The stock that I'm cutting with it is common mild steel square tubing 1" x 1/8" wall. The first few cuts the saw did a great job and cut through the steel with ease. Please know that this abrasion saw will throw sparks like a Fourth of July fountain in all directions, so relocate anything flammable. About the 5th cut it took a noticeably long time to cut the same material, and after consulting the troubleshooting section in the manual and various internet searches, it was clear that the cutting disk was glazing over. I took a wire brush and tried to roughen up the cutting disk and try again. Nope, i had to replace the disk with a new one. I'll make a note to try different cutting disks and see there are better ones to use. The other issue is that it doesn't come with an angle jig to secure angle iron in the fence. It does have a miter feature, but its not accurate and tends to move when you lock it down with the tension screw. You'll need to use a small square to make sure your cuts are straight after you lock it down.

Knowing what i know now, i wouldn't have purchased this saw. Instead i would have spent the extra money on a Evolution saw with a steel blade. Few sparks, no overheating of the stock, quick cuts, and long lasting blade. Also if you plan to cut angle iron or square tubing make sure it has the angle jig attachment.

I hope this helps someone who is looking to purchase this saw.
Dewalt has went down hill
December 13, 2016
They do not make these tools like they use to, the new owners at dewalt are using crap materials and cutting corners. Every new Dewalt brand tool I buy is dead in 3 years or less. The 3 year warranty is also crap, it doesn't cover "normal use". This specific tool was purchased in March of 2015 and died on December of 2016.
Flimsy and cheaply made and not worth the money.
September 16, 2016
I bought this one to replace the DeWalt D28715 that finally gave out after many years of use. The D28710 is much lighter duty with a lot of plastic and is just a cheap saw for a cheaper price than the D28715, Do yourself a favor and buy the 715 and for another $35 you get a heavy duty saw that if it lasts like my last one it will be well worth the extra money. This 710 is flimsy and cheap and not worth the money. If this is what you want, go to Harbor Freight and get one just as good for a lot less money! My mistake in buying the 710 will be rectified when I return the thing immediately. Now I see one of the big drawbacks of shopping on line sight unseen.
Disappointed

I own many dewalt tools...all perform better than expected...this one I've used a few times and I stopped using it...makes breaker switch off. Cuts very slow even with a good blade...not happy.

Not pleased

I received the saw last Thursday and just sent it back today. The arm definitely did not retract straight. It was a full 2 degrees off at the end of a cut after I squared the everything. I loved the design, but mine didn't work for basic 90 degree cuts.
Will not cut square and cannot adjust it to!
July 11, 2017
I recently purchased this saw. I really want to tell you that I love it and think it is fantastic. But I can't. It has many great features that are very well thought out, but at the end of the day I cannot get this saw to cut square. I've spent hours trying and it won't.

When I put a large square against the fence, clamp it in place, and use a caliper accurate to .01 mm to square the blade (i.e. measuring from the same place on the blade to the square at the totally retracted position, 13.2 mm, and the totally extended position 13.23 mm), the cuts when the blade is retracted are NOT square.

Alternatively, if I square the blade in the totally retracted postion such that it is 90 degrees to the fence, it does not cut square for wider pieces.

I'm convinced the blade is not extending in a straight line (regardless of if it's exactly perpendicular to the fence or not). I hate to say I think it's the glide mechanism.

Also, the back fence does not align properly. And what I mean by that, is that the lower portion that does not slide is in a different plane than the upper portion that does slide on the right side of the saw.

The first four pictures are using the large square to align the blade fully retracted and fully extended. The next three are squaring the blade to the fence, then the gap that forms when the blade is extended. The last is off the fence that isn't in vertical alignment
Straight into the dumpster. Complete Junk

Easily the worst single purchase my business has ever made from Amazon. This saw was purchased as a backup/ replacement tool for an existing Rigid brand tool [that had given us years of decent service]. It wasn't purchased to compete with any of our precision German/Italian saws, just something to cut a miter or crosscut when all other saws were occupied. At any rate, the saw was delivered in an undamaged box, and shuffled off to a corner to await un-boxing/installation which, unfortunately, didn't happen for over a month. By the time it was un-boxed and "attempted" to be set-up, it was well past Amazon's 30 day return period. Very experienced personnel spent hours trying to get this saw to cut square across and perpendicular, without success [this saw "crabs"]. I'm talking about guys who trouble-shoot/repair my panel saws and CNC equipment, so not your average Joe. I have considerable experience myself w/ equipment service etc. and couldn't get this saw to cut properly. After contacting Bosch, and discovering the nearest "authorized Bosch service" shop was over an hour away [assuming no traffic, in the NY metro area....]. I'm going to junk this saw. After multiple attempts to set it up, it has not, and is incapable of, contributed a single cut, either miter or cross. Nothing feels like throwing $700 bucks into the dumpster [much more if you include wasted employee time, and WORSE, my time, fruitlessly trying to understand "junk". Btw: the cheap Rigid sliding compound saw is still in service... [I'm a bit Leary now as to what might replace it] Videos of blade "crab' [remaining perpendicular, but moving to side, during crosscut, unfortunately only one vid allowed so not vertical, but trust me its worse]
Will not cut square no matter what.

Got this saw to use in my wood shop where I build custom cabinets and built ins, furniture etc. This saw will not cut square no matter what I do. It would be close enough for gaming but not for the type of work I do. Not worth the money in my opinion for wood working tasks.
Definitely, not worth the extra cost

maybe, eventually, some vendor/mfg will implement this knuckle joint arm into a decent product, but this is not it.

by way of comparison I gave up my DeWalt 718, sliding compound miter, for this.
but now I feel like a fish, that bit on a shinny lure. Sure the knuckle arm is sexy, but is it the ONLY criterion to consider ... no.
I am so pissed at myself for not listening to some of the other reviews that I may come back to this from time to time to continue to vent.

*** UPDATE. The bottom line, to me, is whether or not the features of this say justify the premium cost. imo, the answer is no.

Okay, let's just take as a given the saw has challenges with depth of cut, which I rationalized away.

and, it has a slick flex arm, and that is supposed to be great for shops mounting the saw on a workbench as the knuckle joint does not go back as far as the sliding tubes ... well, yea, in theory that is true, for the folks that bench mount their saw against a wall, but for the rest of us that mount our miter saws on a rolling cart, this is not relevant.

Because of the space needed for the hinged arm, as part of this design, Bosch pulled the fence FORWARD somewhere between 1 and 2 inches (I already gave away my dewalt so I cannot say exactly) but the net effect is that there is only 7 1/2" left on my Rousseau stand, so cross-cut a wide board, holding the board with your left hand, and watch the board to the right fall off the stand. Pathetic.

But, wait there's more. Believe it or not, they use a PLASTIC DETENT PLATE AND LOCK ARM. Unbelievable. An $800 saw, and the part that ensures the accuracy of your cut is PLASTIC.
*** UPDATE. BOSCH Rep makes a, perhaps valid, argument for the plastic detents... so let's take that off the table ... but, more to the point, the more I use the saw, the more I realize that the side-to-side 'play' is really due to the hinged swing arm, itself. Simply stated, an overhead, track mounted motor provides for much more lateral resistance.

Slide it to 90 and cut. Sure you could lock it, but why. with the BOSCH, you can hold the saw and visually see the angle change plus or minus a degree in either direction just by putting a little pressure on the miter. This means it will move if you do not lock the miter with each and every cut. ARGH. Oh, but wait, there is still more.

The miter lock on the dewalt is a cam on the end of the miter arm, simply position, and push down, but on the dewalt it is a TWIST KNOB. really. twist to lock, twist to unlock. really!
*** UPDATE. BOSCH Rep says Dewalt has a patent on the cam lock. well kudos to dewalt, but either way, I still do not like that I have to twist to lock.

And, speaking of cam locks, let's briefly touch on the material hold down. You go it, no quick release, so you have to manually turn the knob all the way down and up. Fine (sort of) if all your pieces are the same thickness, but cut crown, then casing, then base board, and just happen to what to use the hold down for tight angle cuts, and you will become as frustrated as me.

I have not started to check alignment, so do not know yet how this saw compares in the ease of adjustment category, and to be fair, I was motivated to move out of a rail system because of the lack of adjustment in the rails. For those of you that have a rail saw, be sure to slide the power head in to the bushing when you put the saw away, as the weight of the power head will cause the rails to bow down after only a couple years.

And in my case after a while, when the rails go sideways a bit (for whatever), it is impossible to pull a straight cut ... so I went for the fancy new saw and hate it. I could have had rails replaced for a couple hundred (if that) or bought 2 dewalts for the price of this POS Bosch ...

Can't cut straight.
October 28, 2017
Trying to cut square tubing and once it cuts to the top horizontal face, it starts to go diagonal on the vertical faces. Blade is mounted tight and not wobbling. Not over-pushing either. Anyway, using a grinder now with a steel square - works a lot better.
Motor draws more than 20 amps on initial startup. Switch/motor needs fixed so this does not happen.
December 21, 2015
Motor seems to be drawing more than 20 amps on start up. It keeps tripping breakers upon startup. It is so bad that I had to put it on a 30 amp breaker to prevent the drip. When running it is not drawing more than 30 amps, but when it starts there are issues.
Can't cut a warm stick of butter. I tried ...
October 25, 2015
Can't cut a warm stick of butter. I tried for 3 minutes to cut a 1/8 thick 2 inch wide piece of flat steel - all I got was smoke and sparks. My 4 1/2 inch angle grinder cut through it in about 20 seconds. I even tried a new blade from a different manufacturer and it still would not cut anything. Returned it.
Wouldn't cut a decent 45* Blades deflect badly!!!
July 16, 2015
I bought this saw to replace an $80 HF chop saw that worked great for 5yrs of heavy use. Cuts like butter, BUT couldn't cut a clean 45* on 3x3x14ga sq tube or 4x4x1/8 sq tube. Deflected so badly it cut the base while cutting 4x4x1/8 tube on a 45*.using a dewalt blade rated for 1/4". . Couldn't see the deflection due to the guard. Obviously set miter with square, tried variances in blades (rated for 1/4" and up), technique, users...nothing worked. After NONE of our 45* tests coming anywhere near as close as our cheap saw (using the exact same blades) and after almost cutting the base for a third time on 3x3x14ga tube, BACK IT WENT! Also noticed trying to set rear fence in the back 2 positions difficult due to spring mount in the way. Crummy wire retaining clip holding blade spacer...I can see that breaking! Chain kept getting in the way of adjusting clamp. I really wanted this saw to work, sounded good on reviews but in reality...it didn't work for my shop.
