This phone set is awesome . I used to get a zillion phone spam / scam calls a day . No more and for this the price of admission is worth it . First it announces the calls . If you don't recognize the call don't pick it up and it will send it to the answering device included with the set . I usually look up the number and if it's listed as spam garbage I block the offending number . No more fake calls from the IRS or my computer is infected ! You could buy a separate phone blocking device for the same money as the three sets . I bought this on Amazon as an open box. Actually the original box was a bit crumpled not damage otherwise , so the price was great . You got to give it to Amazon for their open box / warehouse deals .
A great value — no complaints after over a year.
October 2, 2015
I have had this phone set since Oct 2, 2015. So far works very well and I consider it to be an excellent value. It has a good variety of rings to choose from; the selection menu is fairly intuitive (i.e., I didn't have to read the manual to set it up as I'd owned similar phones before). The phone has a feature where a recorded voice "announces" each caller when it comes in (based on the Caller ID spelling); its attempts are usually quite amusing because it can't really figure out how to pronounce most callers' names.I really like the feature that allows me to call in to my voice mail easily: with one press of a button, the phone connects to my VM inbox and automatically switches the phone to the speaker mode. Nice touch.A couple of times I've inadvertently left a handset outdoors where it got dewy and even wet. Each time the handsets recovered from the damp. At first the buttons would be a little stiff, but within a matter of days they were back up to their usual performance. If I were to improve on this phone I would add a headset port, but honestly this is a truly good value for the price. I shopped around for phone sets with headset ports, but at that time I could find nothing at such an attractive price point.
Very happy with this phone....
August 31, 2015
We're very happy with this Panasonic phone, it works so much better than our AT&T that died recently (that one only lasted 2 yr with light usage). It's fairly easy to set up and understand, every process has a code assigned to it which is easily accessed via the receiver. Much better sound/clarity with both the handsets & the base (answering machine playback) and my husband and I both like how this phone feels to hold (very relevant since we both make some LONG long-distance calls at various times of the year). The situation we have is being in a rural area where the phone lines are old and quirky, a less expensive phone just doesn't cut it. 5 of our neighbors have Panasonic phones that have been working well for years so we decided to get one too and are very happy we did. This phone set looks & feels very well made, a bit more elegant than our old phone. I personally love the call blocking feature which can store & block up to 60 numbers and am already enjoying the peace and quiet of fewer auto dialer calls. This will be a joy to use when election time arrives next year! All in all this is a great phone and worth the extra bucks ($15 or $20 more than the cheaper phones)....highly recommended!
I absolutely LOVE this phone system
June 24, 2015
I absolutely LOVE this phone system! If I had to choose only one feature that was worth the purchase, it would be the CALL BLOCK. Since I've used the CALL BLOCK feature, we have seen a dramatic reduction in telemarketing calls and other annoying political calls. Our house is quiet again. But that's not the only worthwhile feature: he phone system itself has a large display so it's easy to see who's calling, even from 5 feet away! The volume setting can go up VERY HIGH so it's perfect for even the hard-of-hearing to hear a call. It can store a ton of phone numbers which is convenient, and it has THREE phones, so you won't have to run to another room hoping you get t the phone on time. This is one of the best cordless phone systems I've had so far. No complaints at all.
The KXTGD222N has the basic features you would expect and the white/silver color scheme gives the system a clean look.
July 25, 2014
The Panasonic KXTGD222N is a two handset cordless phone system that has a built-in answering system. It is made in China and distributed by the Panasonic Corporation of North America in Newark, New Jersey (www dot panasonic dot com). The phone system operates in compliance with the DECT 6.0 standard. The DECT 6.0 standard is the North American variant of the European DECT standard and it allows multiple cordless handsets to communicate with one base station connected to a single phone line. The system is "interference free" out to about 100 yards outdoors with a much more limited range within buildings. The handsets have an automatic "eco mode" which means the radio channel operates at a reduced power when near the base station to conserve battery life. When further out, the handset increases the radio channel power by switching over to "boost mode". The cordless radio channels have been designed to operate in congested radio traffic environments without interference with common transmission sources such as Wi-Fi networks, Bluetooth links, motion sensors, baby monitors, etc. The wireless connection is rather weakly encrypted and can be compromised. Needless to say, this is not a secure phone link.In addition to the integrated digital answering machine, the KXTGD222N has the usual standard features like caller ID, a speaker-phone capability, a lost phone pager button, and intercom communication between handsets. There is also a "silent mode" (or night mode) option. This allows the user to shut off the outside call ringer for a select period of time (e.g., while sleeping at night). It should be noted that to completely silence the system, you need to select silent mode for each handset and also turn off the base station ringer. The KXTGD222N also supports call blocking of specific numbers and talking caller ID which audibly announces the name/number of incoming calls. As you may know, to use caller ID features, you will need to activate the ID service with your local phone company. The talking ID feature is activated by default. To be honest, I don't want my phone audibly announcing who is calling, so I have turned off talking caller ID.The KXTGD222N has all the basic features you would expect and the white/silver color scheme gives the system a clean look. The handsets have a 1 1/8" tall by 1 1/4" wide white backlit display, illuminated keypad, and come with belt clips. I do have a concern that the pristine white look of the handsets will be harder to maintain than with a darker color handset. The silver/white color scheme may not be a good choice for dirty environments such as a garage. Just as a comparison with the older Panasonic KXTG4731 cordless phone system I am replacing, the newer KXTGD222N handsets are slightly smaller than the older KXTG4731 handsets; however, the KXTGD222N handsets do not have side volume buttons and don't have amber top light bars that flash when the phone rings. Overall, this is a basic cordless phone system with all the features I need, so five stars.
Initial Impression: Excellent.
May 9, 2014
I picked the KX-TGD220N primarily because it includes a "call blocker" capability and I've been annoyed by repeated robodialed abandoned calls. But this unit seems to be excellent on all fronts:The phone functions flawlessly. Sound quality is excellent and it's easy to use. Setup is a breeze as the instructions are clear and well-written. The handset buttons and the screen display are both backlit (helps in dim light). The base unit and handset both contain ringers that can be separately set anywhere from off to loud. The handset has a built-in speakerphone - more convenient than the usual base unit mounted speakerphone. You can store up to 100 names/phone numbers for speed-dial use. The display language can be set to English or Spanish. The digital answering machine is also excellent. There's a choice of two standard greetings (male voice) or you can record your own. The base unit is very compact and takes up little space. If you want to wall-mount the base unit, an adapter bracket is included for mounting on a standard telephone wall jack. You can buy additional handsets (the KX-TGDA20) up to a maximum of six.The call blocker function allows you to block up to 60 individual numbers. You can also set it to block all masked incoming calls (those for which no Caller ID number is displayed). They only thing they didn't include is the capability to block entire areas codes or prefixes (i.e., all 800 numbers or all 212-555 numbers). The call blocker is working flawlessly for me on my traditional (ATT) "copper wire" landline. I don't know if it will also work with VOIP service providers. Wish I had bought this phone before I wasted money on the "Pro Call Blocker."

Great retro phone for a land line
April 21, 2016
Great retro phone for a land line. The wall phone in the kitchen finally bit the dust. Did not want to replace it with a larger more expensive phone nor did I want to leave the exposed wall plate so I replaced it with this slim retro phone. Covers the wall plate & works well for taking a quick call from the kitchen. Not the main phone system in the house but it got the job done for a reasonable price.
Great value, good basic phone
February 8, 2016
We are victims of Comcast. We cut the landline and decided to have only our cell phones. But when we discontinued Comcast's phone service, our monthly bill shot up! So we resumed service with Comcast, bought this phone, plugged it in -- and turned it off -- and our Comcast bill retreated to its old, lower level. This is a good basic phone that's a great value, even though its only purpose in life is to receive junk calls. It nonetheless serves the purpose of lowering our Comcast bill. The 'off' button is a very valuable feature: We've never turned the phone on and have never heard it ring. :-)
Yes, it has detachable cords now...
January 16, 2015
Yes this is a cheap phone and I didn't expect much, but it doesn't feel cheap, and so far works perfectly.

Other reviews mention that the cords are permanently attached and cannot be replaced. On the phone I got, both the coiled handset cord and the cord from the phone to the wall were connected with the usual plugs and jacks, so you can replace them if you want.

The price went up a bit on this phone -- it used to be $10 -- so maybe they read the reviews and have upgraded the phone. In any case it is worth the extra couple of bucks to get the detachable cords.

So if you want an expensive phone, there are plenty of good ones, but if you're willing to accept that it may not work forever, this phone will do the job nicely and the price is right.

Excellent no nonsense phone.
March 7, 2014
No caller id, no bells and whistles. This is a basic solid well made phone. Buttons are large and easy to press. Has 3 speed dials and 10 memory locations. Last number redial. Tone/pulse switchable. One drawback -- you CANNOT program a "pause" if you need to dial "9" for an outside line; not a big deal, but you should be aware of that.

The phone works very well. I hear clearly and the people hear me clearly. The handset is large and that makes it easy to hold. You can also easily attach a shoulder cushion for holding the phone on your shoulder. The handset is a tad heavy so I wouldn't use it for hour long calls, but it's perfect for extensions. And it works in a power failure without batteries.

For 10 bucks no one should complain about this phone.

Great phone for the house
March 29, 2017
Delivered on time. Easy to set up. Located at the different parts of the house: main bedroom, living room and TV room. Champagne color blends well with the décor. Good sound quality. Works as expected.
I like these phones
March 2, 2017
I like these phones; however, when I'm away from the base, especially in the back bedroom, I will lose power and be disconnected. I need to order a land phone for a back bedroom. What land line telephone do you suggest I order. Before changing to Panasonic, I had AT&T, and they would not disconnect you when talking. I don't like to return anything, so please recommend a land phone that is compatible, and I will order one. Thanks! Carmen Deeds
Good, and easy to setup
April 26, 2016
I purchased this phone to replace our old Uniden phone. I was really having second thoughts about getting this phone because we are used to our old Uniden phone. I was trying to find one comparable to our old phone that is affordable, and has all the features we are looking for. I find this phone really simple to set up, easy to use, and have a good amount of features which are nice to have. The sound quality is good. I like that these phones have the option to use voicemail and has an answering machine. Setting up the voicemail was simple and the screen on the phone tells you if you have a VM (voicemail) message or a message on your answering machine. The viewing screen on the handset lights up nice when you pick the phone up from its base, the letters are big enough and is easy to read especially if you have problems with your eyesight. The phone can be set up to announce any incoming calls. All though it is a bit difficult to understand, it is also a nice feature. We did experience a reception problem with this phone especially if you are far away from the base. I am fairly satisfied with my purchase and would recommend these phones. All in all it is a good phone.
Good system it needs to block more annoying calls
January 15, 2016
Finally, clear phone calls! We use magicJack, and our old phone system was cutting out during phone calls. It was several years old, and I guess technology has gotten better with time. We like the clarity of the calls. The announced caller ID can be annoying at times as it repeats every time the phone rings and sometimes you can't understand what it's saying, but you can turn that off. We also like the variety of ringtones. Just wish it had a headphone jack so that my 97 yr old mother could hear her calls better (yes, she wears hearing aids).Update 2/7/2017Phones are still working well. Reception is good, and I like that we can use regular AAA batteries for the handsets. Just ordered a different Panasonic set (KX-TGE233B), though, because the blocking of 60 numbers was just not enough for us. I was getting tired of going through and deleting #'s that hadn't called recently in order to have room for the new ones that were annoying us. The new phone set blocks 250 numbers. Hopefully that will last us for a while.
So far almost a perfect replacement for our last Panasonic.
August 20, 2015
Received it yesterday and so far so good. Seems to have good distance outside and clear sound. It's a 5.5 volt phone but we have a Leviton 40215-W Out-of-Site Power Jack (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0002V85LS/?tag=ataofhoco-20) which has a low range of 7-9 volts. None of the included jacks would work with the main base. According to one reviewer of the Leviton power jack a call to Panasonic confirmed that it would work with the low 7-9 volt range. In order to make it work with the jack I had to cut the wall wart cord and substitute it into the Power Jack wiring which was easy to do after I verified the wiring with a volt meter. Happy to report that it works just fine.If I could change one thing it's the way it mounts to the wall. The included wall mount holds the main base so that it's straight out of the wall. (Think of a shelf) It isn't the most visually appealing setup but it works. Plus, our old Panasonic that this replaced was up high on the wall but mounted at an angle so you could view the Face of the base from a distance. With it mounted in the same place you have to walk up to the phone to see it.

Plain-Jane phone works just fine.
October 7, 2016
I purchased this plain-jane corded phone because my landline sometimes gets in a funk, and I needed something to plug in at the service box to check whether the problem is inside my house or out on the grid. (My previous plain-jane phone had gone bad.)

What I like about this phone is that all the technology is in the handset itself, nothing in the base; therefore I don't need to carry the base out to the box with me.

What I don't like about it is the bulky handset. But, I can live with that.
Clarity and volume takes care of my moderate hearing loss.
June 29, 2015
My main problem is a moderate hearing loss. I bought another brand trimline phone at about the same price and could barely hear the caller. This phone is the answer for me. It has 3 settings for the volume, and the 1st setting is quite good, but there is setting 2 and 3 if needed. I'm loving this.

But you can't have everything. It is corded only about 6'-- so I got a longer 12' cord. It is heavy to hold and slides off my shoulder when I try to talk and write--so I got a shoulder rest, the old fashioned u-shape no slip kind. The plastic kind did not work.

And it does not have caller ID or memory.--but my other phones do, so not a worry.

It solved my main problem which was to hear callers.
A note on the Memory Dialing Buttons
August 14, 2014
The one-touch and speed dial memory buttons do work. But if you're too slow while programming them, the operator comes on and says "if you would like to make a call, please hang up and try again." This is something you won't find in the trouble shooting section of the instructions and could be a source of confusion. I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 for this. Also note that the phone must stay plugged in for the phone to retain the memory. The three one-touch dialing buttons have logos to help you remember what they are for (fire symbol for fire company, shield for police, a cross for the hospital). This is a nice feature and if you need to make these calls, you probably don't want to have to think about which buttons to press. All in all, a no-frills phone with some useful features including the ability to work even when the power goes down.
Overall a good phone for the money...
February 12, 2013
First, this phone is an excellent bargain, one of the best I've seen for phones on Amazon. That alone is worth a good review, since there's a lot of dodgy or overly expensive phones out there. In general, this is a solid, functional phone for those who still like to have a land line service.

PROS

1. The lighted buttons are bright enough to dial in total darkness, which is a big plus.
2. The receiving volume is quite good, loud enough on medium, which helps reduce background noise if you're in a loud environment.
3. The ring volume is loud & pleasant enough without destroying your hearing.

CONS

1. These older button-on-the-headset style phones all seem to have occasional feedback issues, and this one is no different. However, it's minimal and not a huge issue.
2. The headset cord, like with most new phones, is way too short. I had to purchase a longer cord to keep from knocking over the base when stretching the cord.
3. The fact that the number you're programming actually dials as you're programming the speed dial is, well, not well thought-out.

One other small complaint is that they should have switched the ringer and receiving volume switches; it makes more sense to adjust the ringer at the base, while the phone is hung up, and then adjust the receiving volume while the phone is picked up. However, at the price, this is a good phone and an outstanding value.
This phone WILL work as a wall phone
January 19, 2013
I saw a review that indicated this phone would work only as a desk phone, because the handset would fall off -- but it WILL work as a wall phone. You have to pull UP on the little plastic piece (on the base) that holds the handset on, turn it UPSIDE DOWN and then put it back in- NOW, when you have the base mounted on the wall and hang the phone up, the handset will NOT fall off. If you're using the phone as a desk phone, just leave that little piece as it is (it comes pushed down into the phone). When looking at the base w/ the handset off, and you see the emergency numbers list that comes w/ the phone..... right above the red "fire" symbol and off to the right, you will see the little piece I'm referring to.

The other negative remarks about the phone however, seem to be true. It looks just the same, but the base is LIGHTER weight than my old 210 Trimline phone and all the numbers on the keypad do not light up w/ the same intensity. Dial tone, volume etc seem fine -- haven't had any issues w/ static, but I haven't had the phone very long.

Its seems like a good phone if you just want a basic landline phone -- I HATE cordless phones and don't want to live on my cell phone ALL the time -- so this phone works for me -- I just wish they would make it heavier and have all the numbers light up like the old 201 Trimline. My old one worked fine, it was just discolored -- so I never had any issues w/ the old one working and I had it for years. I'll see if the new one holds up as long ;-)

Good phone but lacking important feature
June 26, 2017
Lacks flashing message indicator. This would seem to be a no brainer. When I come home I should be able to glance at the phone to see if I have any messages. How did Panasonic omit this feature😬. Also lacks LED charging indicator. Otherwise a good phone and I appreciate it uses rechargeable AAA batteries; no hassle finding replacements.
Not as good as I hoped for
May 8, 2017
This phone has had some problems with cutting out during conversations. Also the answering machine does not let you hear your outgoing message when your calls come in ...and so you have to wait until someone speaks on the other end to know when a message is coming up. It also does not have a reminder beep if there are messages waiting.
Old model.
March 15, 2017
This is the old model that doesn't link to a cell phone, doesn't have a headphone jack and doesn't have one-touch call block button on the handset. The base also sits at an odd angle, though a plus is that the actual handset sits well in the cradle, unlike new Panasonic models that perch on the edge. Returned.
'Needs to be LOUDER - "WHAT?"
March 11, 2015
'Bought for my mother. Build, design and overall quality is good, but speaker volume not really loud enough for the elderly. Even at highest volume, voice output level is marginal...
Too much & not enough
February 23, 2015
It never occurred to me that there would be no headset jack. The jack is essential as I am handicapped and have to use a headset. If this is a feature you want, you'll have to look for a different model. Also, before I realized that there was no jack, I was really overwhelmed by the complexity of the set up. I'm a fairly intelligent human being, but I am not a tech genius, for sure. This is a very different phone than my previous Panasonic in that there are now features that do everything but make omelets. Groups 1 & 2? Why? And it's tricky to figure out how to turn the ringer totally off. What used to take 3 or 4 steps now takes 10. On the plus side, the sound quality is excellent.

August 15, 2014
Picture on box misleading. I thought the display would be as shown. It is not. I like to be able to glance at the handset when it rings to see who is calling. Unable to read the screen without picking up the handset. The picture shows the unit on the base with a well lit screen. That particular screen is only visible when hand set is lifted from the base.Sound quality is great and so is the distance. I also don't see any display on the base unit to see how many messages have come in. I could not find a store with this unit in stock so I only had the picture on Amazon to go by. I tried three stores over a three month time period and finally ordered from Amazon. From now on I will wait until I can find such an expensive item in stock in a store. If things like this are not important to you, it is a great phone system. However, as a senior I am picky.

It's Okay
March 7, 2017
This phone doesn't have the quality like the old trimline phones did, but it will work for us. We seldom use our landline but have it in place for emergencies. We usually use our cells now.
works--but smelly, awkward & heavy
August 24, 2015
both phones smell like they are a bit moldy inside--yuck--and these are much larger/wider/clunkier than the older trimline we're replacing (not so good unless you have large hands)--and the handsets are heavier than the older one as well; the only upside is that they do both work well, with options for ringer off, low & high and volume low or high.
Cheap and compact
June 14, 2015
I embrace all the new gadgets but I'm still old fashioned enough to want at least one phone that plugs directly into the wall jack - the other three are wireless. (I have cable phone service and that still makes me nervous) I use this as a bedside phone than can get some rough handling - knocked off the nightstand etc., and their life is limited.
Low Price Phone That Works
April 10, 2015
This phone is mounted on the wall. It was more difficult to install than I expected. You must wind the wire around the inside of the base.In addition, it is necessary to reverse the handset tab to hold the handset when hanging on the wall. The handset has a tendency to hang on the tab when you are trying to remove it to use the phone. Perhaps, I haven't learned the method yet. When hanging on the wall, the handset does not fit snugly against the base. That is rather unattractive in addition to causing concern that the line has not been disconnected from the last call received. The phone is very light weight. It is white in color. It was easy to store telephone numbers. The phone works just fine. I question how long it will last considering the low price.
When you start to program the memory keys, do it fast!
May 13, 2014
I tried over and over again to program the memory keys. I tried going slow so it would take ALL the numbers but that was the wrong thing to do. Since I was setting this up for my mother, I noticed that the numbers I knew by heart went in easy. Why? Because I put them in fast. I almost sent all 4 phones back until I found the secret. PROGRAM THEM IN FAST.The 3 one touch dial buttons are easier to program.

I got this as a replacement for my old Panasonic phone answering system because you can BLOCK CALLS on this one. Since my old one was at least 6 or 7 years old, I was surprised to find that this system is much clunkier and less intuitive than the old one. I like that I can block calls, but I have to press about 7 buttons to get it blocked. Somehow I was envisioning that this would be much easier - more like on my cell phone where I just press one thing. This is enough of a bother to me that I actually DISLIKE this system, and wish I had gotten something different. In contrast to my usual feelings of apathy towards my phone system...
Don't waste your money
February 20, 2016
I have no idea why this phone has a 4 star review. I bought this as a present for my Mom to replace her old Panasonic house phone. She already had to buy a new phone less than two months later because the sound quality was so terrible she couldn't handle it anymore. It is scratchy and muffled. Not even worth the low price.
So Far So Good...But then it quit...
January 23, 2016
It arrived yesterday, and it's simple to set up. I went back and forth deciding which phone system. All we wanted was a simple system that we could use because our cells (on Verizon) sometimes cut out in the hills so we have to have a landline. The components are very light weight. I the main one on the main floor in the kitchen, one upstairs, one in the sunroom, one in the bedroom and one in the lower level. They all work. We have the Charter phone system and each of us has a cell, so all we wanted was to replace our other Panasonic system which we have had for almost nine years, just like this one. That's why I bought this in hopes it will perform as well. I am hopeful.Hope was lost. It goes dead, then reappears, then goes dead. I gave up, and I'm sending it back tomorrow. I've ordered another with only four not the five handsets I wanted. But I think it's still Panasonic that I like. Let's hope this new one coming Tuesday will work. It's a little more expensive than this one.
Not as expected
October 26, 2015
I am increasingly disappointed with this purchase. First time ever writing a negative review, but I purchased this phone set for my 81 year old mom replacing a set she had for years. After listening to her difficulties and telling her for 2 weeks that she would get used to it, now several weeks later I too, have to admit that I do not like this phone. I find it difficult to use the most basic features like calling up your missed calls on caller ID and trying to erase old voice mail messages. There are too many steps involved in these most basic features and unlike any other phones that I've had or purchased for my mom. And, it's hard to understand why. I now know that I can't expect my mom to remember these steps that are just not intuitive at all even to me. She is having trouble also with the call waiting and I can't tell yet if the flash button just doesn't work all the time or my mom is forgetting to use it. Most other phones make doing this much simpler. The unfortunate thing about this is that there is no way to know these thing until you actually purchase the phone. Nowadays, no one should have to read the owners manual to do routine stuff with a home phone. That's crazy. I bought this phone on Amazon because it was $20 cheaper than the same phone offered at local stores and I would just trash it but my mom doesn't want me to waste the money. So we are stuck until it just becomes too unbearable. The menu screens are hard to navigate. Lots of starting over once you figure out how to get back to the beginning. I'm sorry to say, it this phone really sucks. I can't say it's the brand, but for sure I wouldn't recommend this model at any price.
Panasonic Update 9/6/2017: After 3 phone system failures searching for a different brand.
September 26, 2015
UPDATE 9/6/2017: As mentioned below, in my previous review, we've been buying Panasonic phones for 20 years. They used to be very dependable and lasted years. Recently the one phone completely failed, and now the base for the answering machine is starting to randomly shut down then restart. Very annoying in the middle of a call. The phones are difficult to use-- I'm an IT professional and I have to work at the menus to re-dial a number that called in. The menu isn't intuitive. Each model year the display gets smaller. After buying 3 different Panasonic cordless phone systems over as many years, we are looking to switch to a different brand, possibly AT&T or VTech. I would have just bought a replacement phone but since the base unit is also failing, we're going to need a whole new system.I can no longer endorse Panasonic because of the poor quality of the equipment. After three system failures they lost my loyalty. We've been buying Panasonic wireless phones for over 20 years. Amazing they went from large size with external antennas to almost cell phone size. We had previously purchased a black Panasonic set and the wife did not like it. Basically the same phone but with more features, but wrong color or style, who knows why she changed her mind?Well, this one is fairly light but loud and has excellent range. It has a feature that announces names from a built in programmable address book but it creeps her out so she asked me to turn it off. The stand has a nice deep indent so the phone plops in very solid. The previous phone kind of slid into a slot on a sideways mounted stand. You couldn't tell all the time if it was properly placed.Just a warning. Already after the phone hit 30 days when I called home there was a loud hum on her end and I could barely hear her. I should have bought the 2 year warranty because I hate dealing with off-shore tech support, they rarely speak good English and are trained to pretend to not understand the problem and you end up hanging up out of frustration.I'll revisit this phone with an update on if the phone is still working properly. Really wish I bought the warranty extension.
... ago and at first I thought this phone was great even though it did not have the voice mail ...
March 4, 2015
I purchased this PANASONIC KX-TGD224 approximately 9 months ago and at first I thought this phone was great even though it did not have the voice mail alert indicator on the phone, just the display "NEW VOICE MAIL". I used the phone and have been pleased until the last 2 weeks. The phone no longer displays, "NEW VOICE MAIL" So I have to lift the handset and hit talk and find out whether or not I have a new voice mail. And, have also noticed that one of the speakers on the phone sounds very distorted when talking on that particular handset. While these are not major problems and yes the phone does still work it is very disappointing to have these problems inside of one year. I have used many panasonic phones in the past and have always had good results, but not this time. Sorry!

Does Not Work As a Wall Phone
August 28, 2017
I planned to use this phone as a wall phone. As others have stated, it keeps falling off and will not stay on. So, back it goes.
Static on the line all the time
February 11, 2017
Good size and convenient for my dad but these constant static in the line which renders the phone practically useless
Okay, but VERY lightweight
August 23, 2016
It's okay, but VERY lightweight. If you stretch the cord out even a little, the phone moves because the base is so lightweight. If you can attach the base to the wall or to a table, then great...otherwise, not so great.
I WOULD NOT BUY AGAIN
May 9, 2016
The phone is too cheaply made. We needed one for a replacement from our kitchen wall but the hanger that catches the phone to keep it hanging on the wall is a $0.02 piece of cheap plastic and will not hold the phone so it really can only be used for a desktop which is not what we needed it for. I could not in good faith recommend this as a Wholphin. When I complain to Amazon they going to make me pay the shipping to send it back and it's the $0.02 piece of plastic the whole the phone on the wall that's the real problem but it is chiefly made you can tell you decide.
A Value Priced Phone that is functional but the voice quality is poor
August 22, 2012
August 2012. I purchased two of these phones to wall mount in my basement and garage. They work - meaning they ring - but I get complaints about voice quality on every call. Cost was $9.00 each with free shipping (assuming the order totaled at least $25.00)

Despite some remarks that these phones can not be wall mounted, those statements are simply NOT true. I have two of these phones, both of which are currently wall mounted. As noted in the instructions, you must reverse a clip on the base unit for wall mounting. That clip then provides a tab/hook that keeps the phone firmly in place on the base unit. This type of arrangement is essentially universal to all phones that I've ever seen that can be both used horizontally or vertically. To switch the tab from horizontal to vertical mounting took less than 5 seconds.

Another bit of confusion. A few reviewers state that the cord from the base to phone is hard wired and can not be replaced with a longer one. That is not true, at least in 2012. The cord has standard clips on both ends and can be replaced at will.

Yet despite that mis-information - I'm VERY disappointed with the voice quality. Every time I answer these phones people complain (unsolicited) about the voice quality. A hard wired phone (as opposed to a cordless) should sound great but clearly these phones don't! Your only real option for a better hard wired phone would be a Panasonic, at about $30.00.

Terrible! I hate it!
June 20, 2017
This phone started off great, but took a bad turn (unfortunately, after the return period had expired). It was easy to set up and use and the quality was good, but after a while there was major static/interference in the connection. Then the answering machine function stopped working, so the phone would just ring and ring until the person on the other end hung up. Finally, the ability to dial out on the phone stopped working. I wasn't sure at first if that was just a malfunction in our line, but I hooked up another phone, which worked fine. I know this product had a lot of great reviews, which is why I bought it, but it's been a big frustration and a total waste of money. Buyer beware.
Fussy Phones & Horrible Battery Life
April 28, 2016
These phones started off OK, but are now a year old and are horrible. The batteries don't last at all (they take 2 AA batteries each and still go in the charger). I've replaced ALL the batteries at least 2 times in the past 4 months. There is also a horrible clicking sounds. Additionally, one of the phones beeps CONSTANTLY until you take it out of the cradle (which is a huge problem because then the battery dies). All in all, I wish I had NOT purchased these. By the time they didn't work well, it was beyond the point when I could return them to Amazon. I would never recommend these.
This phone is absolutely the worst phone we have ever had
April 3, 2016
This phone is absolutely the worst phone we have ever had. There is no way to make it ring loud enough and unless you are sitting right next to it you do not hear it. Unfortunately, I wish I had returned it.
Poor Quality and Dangerous Battery Leaking
February 18, 2016
I didn't realize I would be past my return policy or I would return these... at least 2 handsets have had the batteries leak and corrosive fluid is visible in the charging cradle and the phones. Dangerous! They also have no headset jacks. Poor quality all around.
Worked nice for a few weeks, then started dropping calls
November 2, 2015
After a few weeks, this phone started dropping my calls. I'm assuming it's due to the range. I'm about 25 feet from the base, and the phone typically drops my calls after about 40 minutes of talk time (sometimes even after just 5 minutes of talking). This phone is no use to me as I need a stable phone that doesn't drop my calls. I also sometimes get static on the line.I wish I could return this product, but I made a dumb mistake by throwing away the packaging after the first week. Lesson learned.
Terrible Phone
October 27, 2015
I sent this Panasonic phone back twice after being unable to program a message greeting in either phone. I have had Panasonic phones in the past and have successfully recorded messages, so it is not that the programming steps were difficult. it is simply that neither phone worked. This phone was made in China. Chinese quality control of their electronic devises is notoriously slack. What a waste of time and money!

Worse phone ever - it's the cheapest one we could ...
July 26, 2017
Worse phone ever - it's the cheapest one we could find on Amazon, so we bought it. Primarily because it was cheap. Poor mistake. It crackles the entire time and there is no way to get around it.
Not good to hang on wall.
April 22, 2017
Just wanted a simple old school phone for emergency use. It needed to be wall hanging which this was advertised to be. There's a little plastic tab that's supposed to convert it to that configuration but it doesn't work.
AT&T Trimline Telephone
January 28, 2014
This phone looks great from the outside, but when I received it, it didn't work properly. I could hear pretty well from my end, but other people that I would talk to couldn't hear me very well. They said that my voice sounded muffled. It's a shame too, because it's a very cute phone. So, I had no other choice but to return it. Maybe it was just a lemon, but I wasn't satisfied with its performance so I really wouldn't recommend this product to anyone. That's why I only gave it one star. In my opinion, I would buy something a little bit more expensive. It's like the old adage, you get what you pay for.
did not like it, no no no
August 29, 2013
our was dead on arrival, and we had to send it back.

but even if that was a fluke, this phone is a cheap piece of crap.
we bought this because it was an ATT phone..
but this is really the "new" ATT just selling cheap clones from china of its classic products
it was super light weight and was like a toy phone

we bought the "real" handset phone, a much older one, from ebay, and are happy with that.
Better than I expected...NOW DEFECTIVE!!!
February 7, 2011
Based on the reviews of some ppl saying this phone is cheaply constructed, I have to disagree. I found this phone to be heftier than I would have thought (solid durable plastic). What do you expect from a phone that costs about $10.00. You can't expect to get the old ATT trimline phones from 25 yrs ago that lasts a lifetime.

I bought this over a month ago and haven't had any problems. It's fine for the bedroom and for use as a back up if the power goes out and the cordless phones don't work. The numbers light up and you don't need to plug it in an AC outlet. It gets its power right from the wall outlet phone jack.

The volume control is a great feature for anyone that's hard of hearing. It can get pretty loud on the high volume setting.

For $10, buying this phone was a no-brainer. The only drawback I found was that the cord from the phone to the base was a little short. I had a longer cord laying around from an old phone and just used that.

UPDATED 5-21-11. Phone is now DEFECTIVE!!! The depress button by the ear speaker jammed and wouldn't release. The phone would not let me answer or get a dial tone. It was just STUCK there. When I tried to release it by pressing it on and off with my fingers, it broke. DON't BUY THIS PHONE!!!
