Five Star Reviews: | 54% We've had one just like this for 6-8 years February 6, 2017 We've had one just like this for 6-8 years. The outside part stopped reading about a year ago. (I've since learned not to mount it where it gets direct sunlight and used Lithum batteries for ANYTHING outside.) Hubby liked it so much I bought this again and was happy to find the same Brand, Style as he knows how to use it already. What I didn't consider and have since come to realize.....the larger print and simple format on the inside dispay is a big plus! Hubby is elderly (okay, so am I) and wears glasses (okay when he has to) and the large print is something he has come to rely upon. Love it! Still working perfectly after 7 years! December 14, 2016 I have owned this since October of 2009. After seven years of use, the only thing that has gone wrong is that the holding clip for the outdoor transmitter cracked this past summer. Now it hangs from a hook instead of clipping into its holder. The base unit has had no problem in seven years, and the transmitter itself has also been problem free. Not many items last like this has! I only use it to measure indoor and outdoor temperatures, I don't move it around. Batteries need to be changed at least once and maybe twice a year. I have found that if I change the batteries twice a year the display stays bright enough to read from across the room. One piece of advice on batteries with this unit- Some battery brands, including Panasonic and Sunbeam, seem to be just a small fraction shorter than others, and don't make a good connection in the transmitter. Energizer and Duracell fit tight and work well in both the transmitter and the base unit, as do the Walgreens brand. Works great! January 19, 2016 So far, so good. This seems to be a great unit for the price. Easy set up and install. I just really hope the remote is waterproof, as I had no place to put it outside, that offered protection. We will see. Update to my review. It's been a week, and I'm having problems. The unit stopped reading the outside temp. I brought it in and reset per the instructions. Started working, but unit was 10 degrees off from actual outside temp, then it stopped displaying the outside again. I'm going to reset it one more time, but it looks like I'll be returning it. This is my third and final review of this unit. Don't waste your money! My second unit has the same problem with it as the first one. After a day the device looses the outside temp. My main into and remote are 15 feet apart, in a straight line. I mounted the remote right outside our front door, and the main unit on the closest wall just in the other side. I have bought 2 brand new set of quality batteries, tested them first and still no luck. I have followed the reset instructions to a tee. It works for a day, then looses its signal again. This one is going back for a refund. It's too bad, it's a nice looking unit. I will look for something else. I did a little more research. I had the unit mounted on the side of our door frame. This was about a foot away from our front door which is metal. The instructions say to not install near any metal doors or windows. I moved it to another location. It had been working great for a week. I guess I have to take back what I did. Very pleased so far. wireless thermometer October 18, 2009 This wireless thermometer works extremely well and is easy to set up - but you absolutely must follow the directions exactly. Range is excellent - but just make sure that some large object such as a metal shed or a large oak tree is not in line-of-sight between any of the transmitters and the receiver. I am using 3 of these temp sensors with the 915 MHz receiver. One sensor came with the receiver, and I just purchased two more, since the receiver can display up to three different temperatures from three sensors. However be advised that if you carry one or more of these sensors out of range and the receiver loses track of it, you absolutely must take the batteries out of all three sensors and out of the receiver and re-initialize all of them. This is not a difficult step, since I did it several times while playing around with the sensors to see how much range they had - which resulted in the receiver losing track of one of them. When you first see the instruction booklet that comes with the receiver, it looks daunting, but not to worry, since only a tiny part of it is in English, with all the rest in other languages. Once all the temp sensors are initialized, then it takes only a few seconds to set the clock. I read in other reviews that some buyers had problems getting their receiver to respond to some sensors, but that is because the buyers failed to properly re-initialize their units. Also be advised that if you buy a display unit that receives transmissions at 915 MHz, then you absolutely must buy sensors that also transmit at 915 MHz. Several of the sensors that are sold by Amazon look alike, but not all of them use 915 MHz, so carefully read the tech specs to make sure that both the transmitter and the receiver operate at 915 MHz. | 48% Great Wireless weather station with atomic clock August 22, 2017 This is an amazing unit, gives you both indoor and outdoor temperatures, date and time, etc. The time is gottenfrom an atomic clock, which can be bypassed, if desired. I had some problems at first with losing the outdoorreadings after a few days, but I called their technical services, followed their comprehensive set-up instructions, and find that it now works perfectly. This unit seems to work well and is very reasonably priced. Weather station March 4, 2017 Unit is small and compact . We like the large size of the temps both in and out of doors to make reading it at a glance more simple. We are just beginning to utilize the machine and will undoubtably find other features to appreciate as well. Thi.s is a replacement unit for our RV and our camping season is looming closer on the horizon. We hope it will withstand the jostling and jarring of the vibration of the road. Perfectly Sized, Clean Design, very Accurate January 11, 2016 The unit is attractively designed and is super simple to set up. When I first turned it on, I was a bit worried when the time and temperatures shown were way off, but I soon realized that the unit just needed a little while to update itself. It took about a half an hour, but now it's perfect. The support bracket is sturdy and the size of the unit is ideal. Time, date, inside, and outside temperatures are listed neatly and in the order I would have chosen if asked. The screen is easily read from across our kitchen, yet it fits easily on a windowsill, although that location will affect the accuracy of the inside temperature reading. It has an unexpected bonus as an argument solver as I now have scientific evidence to present that the house is, in fact, too cold. Simple to use and works great! February 1, 2015 This little thermometer is a easy way to check the outside temps, and see what was the hi/low for the day. Simple to use and works great. The readings are very close to the local weather reports.I purchased this model because it also had the atomic time, but not the other weather features that I would never use. Plus it was much cheaper that the full weather station models.Easy setup, but mounting the sensor required a spacer to keep it away from the house siding. I used a longer screw and a short section of black, 1 1/4 inch PVC. See Photo.Highly recommended!*** Update September 27, 2016. Just had to replace the batteries for the first time. Easy if you follow the directions. The thermometer has been working PERFECTLY for 1 1/2 years and is continuing to do so. I still think its an excellent product and highly recommend it! A Pleasant Surprise October 19, 2014 I was searching for a replacement for a simple 10 year old La Crosse indoor/outdoor that stopped displaying the outdoor temperature. I was dismayed by the negative reviews on most of them and just got this one anyway. It works great. I put the old thermometer outside next to the sensor for the new one and the two thermometers read within a degree of each other. The indoor temps on this one and my furnace thermostat are identical. And to boot, I get an atomic clock included. Go for it. Simple, easy to read, Highs and Lows!! February 14, 2009 I chose this device because all I really wanted was indoor and outdoor temperature in a small, non-obtrusive design. This is the only weather station that fit my bill. For $30, you get the indoor unit, which is very thin and has a big, easy to read display with indoor and outdoor temperature along with the high and low for the day. It can sit on a table or hang on the wall. The outdoor unit has a multi-position bracket, and easily mounts using two screws in a weather-protected place (like under an eave). I enjoy getting up and seeing what the temperature is so I don't have to go "feel" what it's like.March 29, 2010 - One year later, this unit is still doing just fine. I am thrilled the batteries have lasted over a year in the outdoor unit.May 8, 2011 - Still doing what it is supposed to! Replaced the batteries a couple months ago in both units (They were still on the originals). | 0% There are no reviews yet | 0% There are no reviews yet |
Four Star Reviews: | 16% IT WORKS WELL FOR ME BUT IS NOT VERY "USER FRIENDLY" November 6, 2017 I purchased this item from Amazon July 23,2012. I haven't had any of the problems shown in the 1 star reviews. Mine has worked very well for over 5 years. The two complaints I have are (1) the procedure for changing the batteries takes some quick maneuvering and dexterity and(2) pressing the SET button to change the time doesn't always work. After waiting several minutes and retrying over and over again, eventually it goes into the mode allowing the time to be set. Every year when it's necessary to change from standard to daylight saving time or back it's a frustrating experience. The unit isn't very "User Friendly" and requires a lot of patience. That is why I gave it 4 stars.FURTHER INFORMATION. After writing this review, I attempted to set the clock to standard time. I pressed and held the "SET" button as directed but nothing happened. After several tries the clock went into 24 hour mode. Each time I pressed the "SET" button the minutesadvanced but I could not get it back into the 12 hour mode. I changed the batteries and everything worked OK. So if you have this problem try changing the batteries whenever you have to reset the clock from daylight savings time to standard time and/or back. Works well, but accuracy varies with humidity November 5, 2017 I’m pretty happy overall. The unit is cheap, and easy to setup. I’ve placed some cold weather batteries in my outdoor unit, and thus far everything has held up well down to the coldest weather I’ve had since setting up the unit (overnight lows of 28° F).I haven’t had any issues reading the display, and I trust the indoor measurement, though I haven’t tried to run any accuracy tests. That said I have two complaints about the unit. The first is simply a setting limitation: the clock and temperature unit setting are locked together. If you want to display in °F the clock is AM/PM, if you want to use °C the clock is 24-hour. These settings cannot be mixed. The second issue is the temperature unit is very sensitive to both sunlight, and humidity. Low humidity weather causes the outdoor unit to display warmer temperatures by as much as 5° F, and the unit will read extremely hot if it is ever exposed to direct sunlight. When I first installed the unit it indicated the outdoor temperature was 45° C (well above 100° F) on a 16°C/60°F day. Moving the unit helps, but it’s challenging to find a spot with no direct sunlight at all hours of the day to ensure the unit reports trustworthy numbers.Given those to known issues, the unit otherwise works well. A small tack hangs the display in my kitchen, and I used a Velcro patch to hang the remote unit outside about 30 feet away from the display unit.I’ll update the review the first time I need to replace the batteries. Good thermometer with longer wireless range than most. October 22, 2017 This is the second La Crosse digital indoor/outdoor thermometer I have owned. I buy the La Crosse brand because of the range. It's not all that far, about 75', but the signal has to pass through 2 brick walls and a couple of interior walls to get to where I want to read the display. Other thermometers won't do that.Note that this one replaces the the first one I had for more that 10 years, which finally had a display problem and needed to be replaced. I like this one better because it does not display extraneous information that I don't find useful and just clutters the screen. I do miss the "atomic clock" feature on the old one, but I suppose I can set this new one manually when necessary. I do wish that the labels for Indoor and Outdoor were larger. Sometimes I have to look twice to decide which is which, especially when there isn't much difference. except for the smallness we are very pleased with this clock/indoor/outdoor thermometer April 23, 2017 it's a lot smaller than it was shown in the picture being roughly a 4x6 inch, but it works very well. very easy to see in spite of being so small. hangs on the wall very nicely. and the outdoor thermometer was easy to install to the wall outside as well. had a little trouble getting to read outside but instructions cleared that up easy enough by hitting a buttion 20 times and if that didnt work, take out batteries and reinstall. Except for the smallness we are very pleased with it. Works greatr! March 5, 2017 Love this. We had one in our house for several years, and then when we moved to this current (temporary) apartment as part of downsizing, we did without. But decided it would be nice to have again, so purchased this one (not sure what the other one was). Love this one because the clock is big enough to see from my reading chair. And it's simple -- just a clock and and outdoor and indoor temperature. Works great. It does take a day for it to fully capture the outside temperature. We mounted the outside part under an eave as suggested and it seems a perfect place. I will always have one of these in my house from now on. Works well but drains batteries pretty quickly December 31, 2016 We have two of these in two separate homes of ours. They seem very accurate, and the display is easy to read. Only complaint is that they seem to drain the battery on the display part pretty quickly. I think we get maybe 4 months on a battery, and when we replace it you have to re-pair with the transmitter that you place outside. That can be a bit of a pain depending on where that transmitter is. | 19% Works fine so far, but settings not intuitive and atomic clock function took a while to come on February 13, 2017 I bought this to keep track of the temperature inside our cold frame. It seems to work very well. The inside temperature is in line with our thermostat, thus appears to be accurate.Downsides are that the instructions and the setting process are not very intuitive. The instructions just give you a list of settings to toggle through by repeatedly pressing the SET button on the back of the unit. So while you are doing this, you have to keep track of each list item to know what you are setting, and you also have to press the PLUS and MINUS buttons on the back of the unit, which are not above one another but placed diagonally from each other, while looking at the front display. Doable but a bit annoying. Furthermore, the atomic clock took a while (several days or a couple of weeks?) before it suddenly miraculously started getting a signal. Initially, we had to set the time manually, and thought the clock was not working at all. If that's the case for you, don't give up hope, as it might eventually come on.Lastly, I recommend using lithium batteries for the sensor, because alkalines don't work well in the cold. Looks Good, Works Well, Annoying to Set Up January 8, 2017 Excellent product. The units are attractive and the display is clear and crisp, very readable. The clock appears to be quite accurate. If I place the remote sensor next to the readout, the two temperatures read exactly the same, so I assume the calibration is pretty good. The remote range looks pretty good, plenty good for my application. I would prefer a smaller remote unit to make it unobtrusive - my gardener brought it to me saying he found this in the back yard and thought I had lost it. The response time to temperature changes seems pretty long, but the reading is steady and inspires confidence. The reason I gave it less than 5 stars is the setup: it is not intuitive, and too easy to make a wrong step and need to start again. Pairing it with the remote just seemed to happen after a pretty long time. I do not look forward to changing batteries. Careful with the batteries! November 29, 2016 I bought one of these a few months back. Coincidentally I was watching it one day when the outdoor temperature ceased displaying. I replaced batteries in the sensor and in the base unit, but no luck. Rather than trying to debug what was wrong, I decided just to buy another one. When it arrived I put the batteries in it and ... no outside temperature. Having read about problems with other La Crosse products I went out and bought brand new batteries (the ones I had been using I have had around for a year or so). With brand new batteries both units started working. The good: I now have sensors in two outdoor locations, and two base stations that can receive from both of them, even though base stations are in different parts of the house - good signal strength. The bad: I think it is a poor design that depends on incremental differences in battery voltage in order to work - hence the 4 stars. The instructions for starting it up and programming were not ... September 22, 2015 The instructions for starting it up and programming were not as user friendly as I expected and even now I have not been able o set the correct time and date on it. Works. No problems. (Update: Receiver recently died. Remote [outside] sensor is now useless.) June 12, 2015 The product functions exactly as described. No problems setting it up. (I suspect that reading the instructions was useful.) It might have been nice to have a display that could be lighted on demand, but that was not part of the description, and I did not expect it. Just noticed the lack after setting it up in an area that is not always well lighted. Our remote sensor is under a covered patio, so there are no weather or direct sun issues.Modification (10/223/2015): The unit recently just stopped receiving from the remote sensor. I hoped it was a failure of the sending unit in the outside sensor, so I replaced it, but the replacement did not help. The problem is with the base station, which I will not replace now.Another Modification (01/24/16): Christmas miracle!!! I had kept the unit for indoor temperature. (Our thermostat has always been squirrely despite repeated inspections by our A/C company!) Suddenly over Christmas, I started seeing outside temperatures as well. All is working. Go figure!! Not my favorite gadget, but works as advertised January 13, 2014 I like it OK. I only wish I had thought about buying one that includes readings for indoor/outdoor relative humidity and maybe even barometric pressure. Indoor and outdoor temperature and history aren't enough. The clock works fine - found the national time signal without issue but time zone needs to be set correctly. It's slim and hangs on the wall nicely. Only annoyance is having to pair the remote whenever you change the batteries on the main unit. This requires you to go outside pull the remote off the wall and remove the batteries. However, if you put in lithium batteries that shouldn't happen very often - maybe once every year or two. | 0% There are no reviews yet | 0% There are no reviews yet |
Three Star Reviews: | 6% I liked it enough to buy a second one July 27, 2017 I bought this unit in 2014 for use in my travel trailer. It works well and is easy to read. Shortly after the warranty expired, the set buttons for the time stopped working. So whenever the time changed, I would have to go out exactly at noon in order to get the time right because it always resets at 12 o'clock. Well I got tired of doing this twice a year so I liked it enough to buy another. I hope the new one works better.I received the Thermometer yesterday. I could not get the sensor to match up with the home unit. I followed all the instructions and nothing worked. I took the old sensor off of my trailer and it matched up perfectly with the new home base. I threw the new sensor in the trash. Must be some quality issues here! Works okay, but overly-difficult setup and limited range May 28, 2017 Basically this works pretty much as advertised, but it is just okay. I own the base unit and two sensors that I use for outdoor temp and in a poly hoop house with tender plants.First, the advertised range of "up to 330 ft". While that may be true, the manufacturers instructions state that wall or glass that the signal passes through will reduce the range by half. My furthest range is a little over 100 ft and the signal passes through plastic and then into the house through a window. I can't think of any applications where I wouldn't need to pass through at least one wall or piece of glass. My effective range is more like 80 ft. Seems like that should be more clearly stated from the outset rather than buried in the instructions. When I saw the stated range of 330 ft, I thought I was well within range when really I was at the limit.Next, pairing the sensors to the base unit. What I would expect is to insert the batteries, place the sensors and start reading the remote temperatures. It doesn't happen that way. With more than one sensor you have bring everything to one spot, remove batteries from everything, wait 15 mins, press a button 20 times, insert the batteries in a specific order for each device and wait for them to sync. If this was a one-time procedure, it would not be a big deal, but my units sometimes inexplicably loose contact, or on occasion I move them apparently out of range, so I have to look up the whole process again. In short, if your use involves a single remote that passes through only one wall, you are probably okay. If it is anything more complicated, beware of the hidden limitations. Doesn't really record the outside temperature well if you live ... December 30, 2016 Doesn't really record the outside temperature well if you live in an apartment as I do, so I'm not sure if its recording the inside correctly. It's just okay, I wanted to keep a record of my landlords redundant policy of low heat on winter days, but the accuracy is faulty. The temperature outside will read higher than the correct outside temperature. 2 years worth December 11, 2016 Received as a gift worked perfectly for a year, so I purchased one for a out building which worked well but the batteries in the base station died quickly. The original unit worked flawlessly and didn't even need batteries changed for almost a year, the remote sensor needed new batteries after about six months. After two years though everything failed. Remote sensor won't link up, batteries in the controller drain within days of being replaced. The thing is, I have had other similar units and they all sucked worse. Works At Shorter Ranges June 17, 2016 I bought this to replace a failed Acu-Rite temperature unit. I selected the LaCrosse because the stated range was more than the Acu-rite. I have a barn I like to monitor the temperature in. It's about 50 yards from the house. The LaCrosse has trouble covering this distance where the Acu-rite had no issues. The LaCrosse drops signal frequently necessitating a reset by pulling the batteries for a few seconds and restarting the transmitter and receiver. I tried moving both units in hopes of getting a stable signal to no avail. The units work well when the distance is about 10 yards less than where my barn is.The bottomline, works but not at the range stated. INCOMPLETE & CONFUSING START UP INSTRUCTIONS June 6, 2016 Note: I found that if you used two different types of batteries in the 2 different units it will not work! I had Lithium batteries in the outdoor sensor and alkaline batteries in the indoor unit because customer service told me you should not use lithium in the indoor unit. I returned/exchanged one set of devices and on the second set had the same problem i.e. that the outdoor sensor never registered on the indoor receiver. On a hunch, I put alkaline batteries in both the indoor and outdoor units and voila - it worked! There is nothing about this in the instructions or on their website so I hope this saves someone else some aggravation. Also, a cumbersome start up process and again, the start up instructions don't tell you to wait until the units sync before trying to set the clock. This instruction only appears in the fine print on the back of the outdoor sensor.Once you get it to work, it seems fine but it is a confusing process to get there. | 8% Good for its price October 15, 2017 OK though hard is a bit difficult to see as grey on grey. Internal and external sensors off by 0.4 degree though not end of world. Would have preferred larger temp numbers and less clutter due to thing like time and date (can't read them from more than 5 feet away in any case) Sending unit is short lived. July 13, 2017 I would give five stars but the sending unit fails after a couple of months to a year. I've bought several of these just to get the sending unit. The price for the sending unit alone is about the same as this unit. I have found that putting the sending unit in a zip-loc bag seems to extend it's life and doesn't affect accuracy. Tells me the outdoor temp and seems accurate April 24, 2017 Works as promised, but numbers are hard to read from across the room. Also, the clock did not change with daylight savings time (but it took me a couple of weeks to notice as the clock is really small and we have another in the same room). Worked well for 3-4 years then failure to communicate with remotes. November 1, 2015 Purchased January 2011. It worked ok with 2 remotes once I got the knack of how to get them to communicate after battery changes. However about January 2015 it stopped receiving signal from either remote, even with fresh batteries. It will receive signal from remotes while they are right next to the base unit, but if I move the remotes to the next room (let alone outdoors) the base looses the signal. At least a year earlier it stopped setting the time automatically, as it is supposed to do, and having more trouble with doppping the remote signal. Now I suspect that the problems were connected. I assume the receiver in the base unit must be failing. Some people will probably say that a 3-4 year lifespan should merit 5 stars, and I may order another, but I downgrade it because I think it should last longer. Outdoor sensor died after 8 months. July 10, 2015 I bought this unit primarily for its temperature displays - inside and outside.8 Months later... the outside sensor died. I thought it was the battery, and indeed they measured only .7V each. But, when I put in new batteries, it wasn't recognized by the display. After a while, I smelled a hot electronics odor, and the temperature sensor was very warm. The new batteries were already down. As an electrical engineer, I knew what had happened - the unit had failed in the summer heat. That's discouraging. Something sold for outdoor use should be able to stand high temperatures. I would bet that the components of this are standard commercial IC's - which can only take up to 120F. | 0% There are no reviews yet | 0% There are no reviews yet |
Two Star Reviews: | 6% Inaccurate and outdoor temp doesn't connect even when right next to main device June 6, 2017 I've been extremely disappointed at how poorly the connection works for the "outdoor" temperature. I've replaced batteries, reset the thermometer, and have tried multiple occasions of having the independent outdoor sensor sitting right next to the main thermometer (indoors) and it still won't read the outdoor sensor. And when it does (and the two are side by side) the temperature readings are off by 2-3 degrees, so it decreases my confidence that this is even accurate. Very frustrating, and waste of money for a digital paperweight. The 330 feet transmitting range in the description is very misleading. March 18, 2017 In the description it says it will "transmit" 330 feet, but I discovered that does not guarantee reception. I purchased this to reach roughly 300 feet, but quickly discovered that range was out of the question. The farthest I can get it to reach is 90 feet when in line-of-site, and that is when the receiver is in a window. If I place the receiver anywhere but in the window it loses reception. Also, once it loses its reception it will not automatically find it back. You must pull the batteries out of both the receiver and transmitter, reinsert them, and then let the transmitter and receiver reconnect. Also I discovered that after doing the above process of reestablishing the signal connection it lost the signal again while carrying the receiver indoors where it momentarily was not in line-of-site of the receiver. These Thermometers Don't Hold Up Well January 16, 2017 I own three of these thermometers. I like the display. Two have worked for two years or more and are of reasonable accuracy for my purposes. One of these is a replacement for an earlier model that failed. One of the three has failed. Based on another reviewer’s experience of opening the failed transmitter and finding corrosion, I did the same. I found corrosion across the battery terminals where they connect to the circuit board. I cleaned off corrosion and unit started working again for several days, and then failed again. It ran fresh batteries down in this time, so I assume there is still a corrosion problem. I don’t recommend doing this in hopes of a permanent fix, as the case has to be cut open. The manufacturer should fix this problem. I plan to purchase a different brand and see if it works better and lasts longer. Time works - inside temperature works - outside temperature not so much January 12, 2017 Keeps time perfect to the second. Inside temperature is correct. When outside temperature is displayed it is the same as the temperature on the weather channel. I used the word "WHEN" - meaning most of the time three blank lines are shown, not the temperature. The outside temperature comes and goes to suit itself. Sending back is not something that's easy to do (rural living). It's winter here in West Virginia and the procedure requires the outside units to be brought to within 5 feet of the receiving unit. That's why I purchased the remote temperature monitor - to stay out of the cold. I believe the term is lazy. Maybe in the spring I will revisit this problem. Durability issues. September 4, 2016 Two issues for me, one small, one big. The small: The outdoor sensor always seems to overstate the temperature in warmer weather. Tried moving it around to make sure it is not in the direct sunlight but it still seems to put the outside temperature at least 5-10 degrees too high in the heat of the day between June and October. That would have still earned four stars. But, the big: the receiver, which displays the readings, unit went complete dead 18 months after purchase. Tried fresh batteries but there is no display at all. One year warranty. Better than their earlier units, but wildly inaccurate at high and low termps. April 30, 2015 Had an earlier Lacrosse remote thermometer that died after 5 years or so. This one has smaller digits, harder to see from a distance, but on the positive side it was much quicker to establish the wireless link than the old one, which often took half a dozen tries.Added on 21 Jun 2015: This unit has proven to be wildly inaccurate at high and low temps, as compared with my mercury bulb lab thermometer. It correlates within 1 degree only in the range from 50 to 60 degrees F. At 85 on the lab thermometer the La Crosse displays 94 degrees! Laid the sensor unit in a foam cooler with some ice packs and the lab thermometer, and found that at 30 F. the LaCrosse reads 27 degrees. In service the sender is mounted on a window frame IN SHADE, next to an old alcohol bulb thermometer which correlates much better. Metrology was my career - we'd say that this unit is highly non-linear. | 8% Don't waste your money November 7, 2017 Don't waste your money. I have had this for about 6 weeks. When it works, it works fine, but it periodically loses the outdoor signal, even with new batteries. The resetting process is a royal pain. You must take the batteries out of both units, push one of the buttons on the main unit 20 times, wait 15 minutes, put the batteries back in in the proper order, reset the clock manually and hope it now works. I have better things to do than Just to be clear, the outside unit is about 15 feet from the main unit. I had another brand of wireless thermometer that worked in the same location for years! which seems like would transfer the temp of that surface to the ... September 30, 2017 First know that the sending unit has a very very cheap surface attachment that it connects to that puts the unit flat against whatever you've screwed that attachment into, which seems like would transfer the temp of that surface to the sending unit. Like all of La Crosse indoor receiving units I'm familiar with this one also suffers from a too small base causing it to tip backwards very easily. The fix for that would be easy and cheap yet La Crosse has never cared enough about it's customers to fix it. The only good thing is having the daily highs and lows to easily follow. Complicated battery install sequence June 30, 2017 I need this remote sensing thermometer to monitor my over heating attic. Unfortunately the product designer decided that installing batteries had to be "just so!" That to coordinate the units requires they be initially located within 5 feet of each other and then batteries had to be installed in a certain order. So if something requires batteries changed in monitor station then I gotta climb up in my attics to recover the sensors, re-coordinate them by removing and reinstalling batteries. Then climb back into attics to reposition sensors. Rookie designer. Too Much Set Up & No Results. June 3, 2017 I returned this item two days after receiving it, due to the inability to get it connected and operating. Four different tries following directions, which include removing batteries, pressing a button, waiting some time and then restarting it again failed to get it going until the 5th time it "worked."The next morning it was again blank with just two lines showing. Enough! Returned it and bought the Oregon for a few dollars more, but well worth it. Thank you Amazon for accepting the defective unit. REW Annoying Acquisition! May 17, 2017 I thought this would be exactly what I wanted; but less than three months later, it's useless. My first clue was around a month ago when it was in the 60's outside, but the display kept jumping up every few minutes until it finally settled on 96 degrees. It continued being a little "iffy" and now it doesn't register any outdoor temp at all. The batteries are new. Other than that I have no clue how to fix it nor am I inclined to try. There must be a better choice somewhere! It is now a couple months later. I kept it around because it did at least register the inside temps, but now it doesn't even do that. I tried to find online support, but even their support form doesn't work properly. I'm thankful I didn't spend a lot of money on this! however I am disappointed with the min/max memory April 16, 2017 It seems to work okay, however I am disappointed with the min/max memory. It can't be reset manually. It automatically resets the memory every morning at 08:00 weather you want it to or not and if you want to reset the memory to keep track of min/max from a certain time forward you are out of luck. Their is no manual min/max reset possible | 0% There are no reviews yet | 0% There are no reviews yet |
One Star Reviews: | 18% this is the second La Crosse thermomenter on which the ... May 23, 2017 this is the second La Crosse thermomenter on which the outdoor monitor failed to operate. On this one, the monitor did not even fit in its holder. I am done with La Crosse Technology. Unit worked for one day then lost contact with the ... February 10, 2017 Unit worked for one day then lost contact with the outdoor sensor. Indoor receiver was initially located 30' from outdoor sensor then moved 10' closerwhere it picked up the outside temperature on one cycle. Would not update after that cycle, so I moved the indoor unit to the kitchen table6' away from the outside sensor. Still inoperative= POS junk. Returning for refund I don't know how it got good reviews. This is the second remote thermometer I ... February 7, 2017 Do not buy. It only worked when the sensor was five feet away. In the same room it always read 2.5 degrees different when they should of read the same. It never worked through a window or wall. I don't know how it got good reviews. This is the second remote thermometer I have purchased and neither one worked, I don't believe the technology is there at least on these low end ones. Waste of time and money September 15, 2016 Waste of time and money. Purchased this unit with high hopes based on my experience with prior thermometer. I have spent over an hour trying to get the remote sensor to pair with the main unit without any success. I have tried changing out new alkaline batteries, tested the batteries and strictly following all the set up and reset instructions to no avail. I even watched a YouTube video from the manufacturer and exactly followed their instructions and still couldn't get the remote sensor to pair. Sending it back and trying something else. The batteries in the sensor transmitter last about 2 months ... October 24, 2015 The batteries in the sensor transmitter last about 2 months, maximum. I originally installed the sensor about 20 feet away from the display unit and the first set of batteries were too weak to produce an adequate signal within a month. I now have the sensor about 3 feet from the display and the unit will function for about two months before the sensor batteries require replacement. The house is wood frame construction so there are no unusual conditions that impact radio frequency signals. I have other LaCrosse models, and the sensor batteries last about a year with those. Garbage! DO NOT BUY THIS! October 7, 2015 If you enjoy wasting time and batteries, buy this weather station. The customer support is a JOKE as others have said. You can expect this to MAYBE work until the first set of batteries run out, which may not take long. After that the remote sensor cannot be found. All I have now is a clock that also shows the temperature in my house (+ or - 5 degrees accuracy). JUNK! | 17% ... have to give 1 star as it is completely useless and too complicated to use for something as simple ... October 13, 2017 I have to give 1 star as it is completely useless and too complicated to use for something as simple as telling the indoor and outdoor temp...The remote battery compartment falls off, the constant resetting of all it's components in a complicated sequence makes the device annoying to have in the house. Constantly dropping the outdoor temperature, constantly resetting time, date, zone... etc. Don't waste your money. Should have been removed from Amazons products a long time ago! Amazon offers expert installation for a $20. device at a whopping $70. plus price tag?! Say what?! Completely dead within 6 months July 1, 2017 This product never really seemed to work well. We always used brand new batteries. Within about 5 month the base station completely stopped working. Batteries purchased today for both components did not solve the problem. If you still plan on buying this item, be prepared for disappointment. This item is not made to last. I probably spent almost as much as the cost of the unit on purchasing new packs of batteries. Wireless in and out temp June 26, 2017 I purchased this for my husband's birthday April 22 this year. The outside part quit working last week and when I went to tell the Company my winowbof return was 30 days. So we have only an inside temp worth hardly nothing... Never Has Worked May 2, 2017 Outdoor temperature consistently keeps showing dashes. I have positioned the outdoor transmitter in accordance with the instructions, all batteries are fresh & the RESTART procedure only corrects the problem temporarily. This is going in the trash & I will make sure the next one is not from La Crosse Technology. Easy to set up March 18, 2017 Bought this for my office at work. It's simple, but works well and now I know what the temp is.Update 6/27/17 -- Well, after only 5 months the transmitter quit working, so now I have an expensive indoor thermometer. Pretty sad statement about the quality. I tried fresh batteries (even though they were new in January), and resetting the whole system. No luck. I'm bummed. Wasted my money. A piece of junk. August 2, 2016 This is a piece of junk. Not long after I had it the indoor display quit showing the outdoor temperature. I assumed this was an issue with the batteries in the outdoor sensor, so I changed them as per the instructions. Still no outdoor temperature displayed. I tried different batteries with the same result: no outdoor temp. Don’t waste your money on this device. If you want to know what the outdoor temperature is, buy a simple outdoor thermometer and go out and look at it. Or go to the website of any internet weather service and type in your zip code. FYI the Amazon description says the outdoor sensor takes 4 AA batteries. it does not; it takes 2. | 0% There are no reviews yet | 0% There are no reviews yet |
