seems pretty accurate and easy to read
August 9, 2017
I've tied the outdoor sensor in the shade of a tree-limb ... and the temperature results look spot-on to me i.e. the temperature seems consistent with local weather reports. Here in WY, I've seen some amazingly (to me) low humidity readings ... as low as 1%; `don't know if such low humidity readings could be accurate (or not) ?

The inside display fonts are large enough to read without glasses (e.g. easy Readers) ... NICE ... and from a fair distance, say 10 feet, for example.

So, I'm happily entertained with this inside/outside weather reporting ... and, yes, I'd buy another, if something happened to it - no hesitation.
Very easy to install means for comparing inside and outside temperatures
July 4, 2017
It is Summer now and I have been using this device since Winter. Every day I look at the inside and outside temperature (and humidity) to determine when to "open up" the house to fresh air. I have had no issues with the accuracy as I have compared often to what other thermometers have shown. The batteries seem to be holding up fine. And it was so easy to install. I am very delighted with it and each day I look at it I feel grateful for the team of engineers and marketing people (and Amazon) who brought this useful, reliable device into my life to allow me to be more efficient and operate more intelligently.
Finally found one that does what I want
May 10, 2017
Nope, it doesn't have a backlit display - but I turn on the lights when I walk into the living room anyhow.
Nope, it doesn't have the time on the display - but it's sitting in a room with a clock on the wall and the time is also visible on the VCR.
This shows in numbers large enough to be seen from my recliner the temperature and humidity for both inside and out - EXACTLY what I wanted. Nothing more, nothing less. Outside sensor is about 40' away on the other side of a brick wall and hasn't missed a beat.
Works well, and at a good price!
October 31, 2016
I like it! It's bigger than I thought it would be (I didn't check the specs), but that's ok, the numbers are very clear. Outside numbers are larger, perhaps to emphasize that it has an outside unit?

It's reasonably accurate. I have several other temp/humidity devices; the AcuRite is within 2 deg on temperature and 5 points on humidity, exactly what I would expect on a unit at this price point. (Higher accuracy is costly.) The real challenge is locating the outside sensor so it is in the air, away from the house, out of the sun, and protected from rain. My outside sensor got wet a couple of times, but seems to recover after a few hours.

I had some initial problems getting it set up, but my call to customer service was quickly answered, and I finally got the batteries installed correctly (hint: read the manual!)

Update, July 2017:
Just returned from extensive European travel with this unit. Set it up in dozens of places, always worked well (so long as I could avoid direct sunlight, and rain!). Got the outdoor unit wet a couple of times, but after a day of 99%RH readings it worked ok. Replaced the batteries after a year. Now I got it back home and it still agrees with my other weather instruments.
Working Well - Meeting Expectations
November 6, 2015
I primarily wanted this unit because of humidity feature. I had just installed a whole house humidifier on our furnace and wanted to be able to monitor its performance. The negative reviews gave me some concern as they involved accuracy and more notably the 99% humidity readings. When I received the unit I installed the batteries and set the base unit and sensor side by side on a shelf and after an hour or so the indoor and outdoor readings matched. I mounted the sensor on the side of the house in a spot where the sun never shines and I fashioned a small "awning" just above the unit to protect it from dripping. The first morning I observed 99% humidity. As we live in a coastal area so there can be fog and this fall there has been lot of evening/morning dampness in the air the high reading should be expected. But I brought the sensor back inside just to check and after a while it was again matching the base unit. I sometimes compare the humidity and temperature readings to the Weather Channel app and they're always quite close (I do not expect them to match exactly just because of relative locations).

We've had one just like this for 6-8 years
February 6, 2017
We've had one just like this for 6-8 years. The outside part stopped reading about a year ago. (I've since learned not to mount it where it gets direct sunlight and used Lithum batteries for ANYTHING outside.) Hubby liked it so much I bought this again and was happy to find the same Brand, Style as he knows how to use it already. What I didn't consider and have since come to realize.....the larger print and simple format on the inside dispay is a big plus! Hubby is elderly (okay, so am I) and wears glasses (okay when he has to) and the large print is something he has come to rely upon.
Love it! Still working perfectly after 7 years!
December 14, 2016
I have owned this since October of 2009. After seven years of use, the only thing that has gone wrong is that the holding clip for the outdoor transmitter cracked this past summer. Now it hangs from a hook instead of clipping into its holder. The base unit has had no problem in seven years, and the transmitter itself has also been problem free. Not many items last like this has! I only use it to measure indoor and outdoor temperatures, I don't move it around.
Batteries need to be changed at least once and maybe twice a year. I have found that if I change the batteries twice a year the display stays bright enough to read from across the room.
One piece of advice on batteries with this unit-
Some battery brands, including Panasonic and Sunbeam, seem to be just a small fraction shorter than others, and don't make a good connection in the transmitter. Energizer and Duracell fit tight and work well in both the transmitter and the base unit, as do the Walgreens brand.
Works great!
January 19, 2016
So far, so good. This seems to be a great unit for the price. Easy set up and install. I just really hope the remote is waterproof, as I had no place to put it outside, that offered protection. We will see.

Update to my review. It's been a week, and I'm having problems. The unit stopped reading the outside temp. I brought it in and reset per the instructions. Started working, but unit was 10 degrees off from actual outside temp, then it stopped displaying the outside again.

I'm going to reset it one more time, but it looks like I'll be returning it.

This is my third and final review of this unit. Don't waste your money! My second unit has the same problem with it as the first one. After a day the device looses the outside temp. My main into and remote are 15 feet apart, in a straight line. I mounted the remote right outside our front door, and the main unit on the closest wall just in the other side. I have bought 2 brand new set of quality batteries, tested them first and still no luck.

I have followed the reset instructions to a tee. It works for a day, then looses its signal again. This one is going back for a refund. It's too bad, it's a nice looking unit. I will look for something else.

I did a little more research. I had the unit mounted on the side of our door frame. This was about a foot away from our front door which is metal. The instructions say to not install near any metal doors or windows. I moved it to another location. It had been working great for a week. I guess I have to take back what I did. Very pleased so far.
wireless thermometer
October 18, 2009
This wireless thermometer works extremely well and is easy
to set up - but you absolutely must follow the directions exactly.

Range is excellent - but just make sure that some large object such
as a metal shed or a large oak tree is not in line-of-sight between
any of the transmitters and the receiver.

I am using 3 of these temp sensors with the 915 MHz receiver. One
sensor came with the receiver, and I just purchased two more, since the
receiver can display up to three different temperatures from three
sensors. However be advised that if you carry one or more of these
sensors out of range and the receiver loses track of it, you absolutely
must take the batteries out of all three sensors and out of the
receiver and re-initialize all of them. This is not a difficult step,
since I did it several times while playing around with the sensors to
see how much range they had - which resulted in the receiver losing
track of one of them.

When you first see the instruction booklet that comes with the receiver,
it looks daunting, but not to worry, since only a tiny part of it is in
English, with all the rest in other languages. Once all the temp sensors are
initialized, then it takes only a few seconds to set the clock.

I read in other reviews that some buyers had problems getting their
receiver to respond to some sensors, but that is because the buyers failed
to properly re-initialize their units. Also be advised that if you buy
a display unit that receives transmissions at 915 MHz, then you absolutely
must buy sensors that also transmit at 915 MHz. Several of the sensors
that are sold by Amazon look alike, but not all of them use 915 MHz, so
carefully read the tech specs to make sure that both the transmitter and
the receiver operate at 915 MHz.

Humidity reading way off UPDATE
August 12, 2017
Outdoor unit's humidity reading way off (more than 5%, closer to 10% off), usually reads higher than actual rh in environment. Considering returning item. Placed product next to outdoor sensor in living room and next to another accurite stand alone unit and got very different readings from all 3 units humidity wise, temp seems to be a little more accurate.

Update: I changed the location and now it seems to be reading humidity more accurately. I've decided to keep it and now feel like I can recommend this product. Just be patient and move the probe around to a different location if you feel like it isn't reading accurately.
Sensor bad due to Batteries
December 14, 2016
I have had this unit since July 2015. I LOVE KNOWING THE TEMPERATURE AND, IN FLORIDA, THE HUMIDITY IS EVEN MORE IMPORTANT!

Worked great once i found a spot out of the sun and rain. Before...when the sun hit the sensor the temps were about 5 - 10 degrees too high.

Now after about 18 months the unit locked on a temp and humidity, I checked the sensor and it looks like the battery oozed out? Swapped in new batteries and now the sensor seems dead, maybe the batteries ruined it? So I was about to buy a replacement sensor (model 00609A1TX - see Amazon AcuRite 06002M for $12.99), then I see the entire unit for $21.99...heck I figured I would get both receiver and sensor, maybe the new sensor can feed both the old receiver and the new receiver...one in the kitchen one in the bedroom. We will see...
If you want a temperature/humidity monitor that works, is easy, and is accurate.........Just buy an AcuRite........
September 11, 2015
Pretty simple unit that worked immediately... You just install a couple of batteries in both units and it starts working automatically........could not be too much simpler.........

Hardest part is figuring that the larger display unit does take batteries, because the stand unit pops off to reveal a battery compartment.....

I have several AcuRite monitors and they are always pretty accurate, so I am assuming this one will be too........

I will be upgrading this review to five stars if the unit is still working well within a couple of months, and has not burned out too many batteries(AcuRite monitors are generally very very good at conserving battery life)......

9-19-15.....After a couple of weeks this things has been working like a charm.....

it is quite accurate, like all AcuRite meters seem to be, I have not had any problems getting accurate, reliable, temperature and humidity information from outside remotely.....

This weather monitors belongs in the weather monitor Hall of Fame......
Reliable, good price, easy to read
May 14, 2015
Replaced an older version of this unit that had lasted 8+ years. Love the new version. Easy to set up and link the receiver, nice large clear display and I like the fact that it shows the trending status of both the temp and humidity readings. My remote transmitter is located under a deck overhang and I suspect it throws off the outdoor humidity reading a bit, but not a deal breaker for me. I also don't like the fact that the remote doesn't display the temp on it any more like the old one, but overall a great unit for the price
Good Value for the Money
April 24, 2015
After reading some of the reviews before purchasing, I was a little hesitant in purchasing. I have never been totally happy with any similar gadget, but have to say this product for the value works just fine. Like most all products. You do have to find a sun light protected area for adequate information. I have moved the receiver around inside the house without issue. I also unlike some others, found setup extremely easy.
ADDENDUM May 30 2017 Indoor thermometer still works. Exterior thermometer no longer works. Changed the batteries in both indoor receiver as well as outdoor transmitter with no luck. Do remember changing the batteries once before without problem. Kept the outside transmitter in a maple tree under cover as best as possible. Not sure if having it somewhere totally protected from rain/moisture would have helped or not. I'm thinking probably, but the position I did have it anchored was in a place where rain would not hit it directly. Having said all that, I changed my product rating from a five to a four only because of it no longer working. I would still consider it a four as for 25 bucks, I pretty much got what I paid for and when it was working, I found it to be pretty reliable with the temp and humidity readings. Hope this helps with your decision. Sorry so lengthy.

IT WORKS WELL FOR ME BUT IS NOT VERY "USER FRIENDLY"
November 6, 2017
I purchased this item from Amazon July 23,2012. I haven't had any of the problems shown in the 1 star reviews. Mine has worked very well for over 5 years. The two complaints I have are (1) the procedure for changing the batteries takes some quick maneuvering and dexterity and(2) pressing the SET button to change the time doesn't always work. After waiting several minutes and retrying over and over again, eventually it goes into the mode allowing the time to be set. Every year when it's necessary to change from standard to daylight saving time or back it's a frustrating experience. The unit isn't very "User Friendly" and requires a lot of patience. That is why I gave it 4 stars.FURTHER INFORMATION. After writing this review, I attempted to set the clock to standard time. I pressed and held the "SET" button as directed but nothing happened. After several tries the clock went into 24 hour mode. Each time I pressed the "SET" button the minutesadvanced but I could not get it back into the 12 hour mode. I changed the batteries and everything worked OK. So if you have this problem try changing the batteries whenever you have to reset the clock from daylight savings time to standard time and/or back.
Works well, but accuracy varies with humidity
November 5, 2017
I’m pretty happy overall. The unit is cheap, and easy to setup. I’ve placed some cold weather batteries in my outdoor unit, and thus far everything has held up well down to the coldest weather I’ve had since setting up the unit (overnight lows of 28° F).I haven’t had any issues reading the display, and I trust the indoor measurement, though I haven’t tried to run any accuracy tests. That said I have two complaints about the unit. The first is simply a setting limitation: the clock and temperature unit setting are locked together. If you want to display in °F the clock is AM/PM, if you want to use °C the clock is 24-hour. These settings cannot be mixed. The second issue is the temperature unit is very sensitive to both sunlight, and humidity. Low humidity weather causes the outdoor unit to display warmer temperatures by as much as 5° F, and the unit will read extremely hot if it is ever exposed to direct sunlight. When I first installed the unit it indicated the outdoor temperature was 45° C (well above 100° F) on a 16°C/60°F day. Moving the unit helps, but it’s challenging to find a spot with no direct sunlight at all hours of the day to ensure the unit reports trustworthy numbers.Given those to known issues, the unit otherwise works well. A small tack hangs the display in my kitchen, and I used a Velcro patch to hang the remote unit outside about 30 feet away from the display unit.I’ll update the review the first time I need to replace the batteries.
Good thermometer with longer wireless range than most.
October 22, 2017
This is the second La Crosse digital indoor/outdoor thermometer I have owned. I buy the La Crosse brand because of the range. It's not all that far, about 75', but the signal has to pass through 2 brick walls and a couple of interior walls to get to where I want to read the display. Other thermometers won't do that.Note that this one replaces the the first one I had for more that 10 years, which finally had a display problem and needed to be replaced. I like this one better because it does not display extraneous information that I don't find useful and just clutters the screen. I do miss the "atomic clock" feature on the old one, but I suppose I can set this new one manually when necessary. I do wish that the labels for Indoor and Outdoor were larger. Sometimes I have to look twice to decide which is which, especially when there isn't much difference.
except for the smallness we are very pleased with this clock/indoor/outdoor thermometer
April 23, 2017
it's a lot smaller than it was shown in the picture being roughly a 4x6 inch, but it works very well. very easy to see in spite of being so small. hangs on the wall very nicely. and the outdoor thermometer was easy to install to the wall outside as well. had a little trouble getting to read outside but instructions cleared that up easy enough by hitting a buttion 20 times and if that didnt work, take out batteries and reinstall. Except for the smallness we are very pleased with it.
Works greatr!
March 5, 2017
Love this. We had one in our house for several years, and then when we moved to this current (temporary) apartment as part of downsizing, we did without. But decided it would be nice to have again, so purchased this one (not sure what the other one was). Love this one because the clock is big enough to see from my reading chair. And it's simple -- just a clock and and outdoor and indoor temperature. Works great. It does take a day for it to fully capture the outside temperature. We mounted the outside part under an eave as suggested and it seems a perfect place. I will always have one of these in my house from now on.
Works well but drains batteries pretty quickly
December 31, 2016
We have two of these in two separate homes of ours. They seem very accurate, and the display is easy to read. Only complaint is that they seem to drain the battery on the display part pretty quickly. I think we get maybe 4 months on a battery, and when we replace it you have to re-pair with the transmitter that you place outside. That can be a bit of a pain depending on where that transmitter is.

AcuWrong
May 28, 2017
I had high hopes but was somewhat disappointed. 3 old fashion, mercury thermometers all show the same outdoor or indoor temperatures, Th AcuRite 00611A3 is consistently 2 degrees higher. In addition, the design is such that reading the numbers in ambient lighting is disconcerting. It requires direct lighting, such as bright room light or sunlight from a window. If it had back lighting built into it, that would be a good thing.
I Liked it originally
January 17, 2016
I've only had it for something more than a week but I like it. It was simple to set up and appears to give good readings (I only use it for temperature, most cheap humidity meters are very inaccurate). I had a much more expensive Oregon Scientific gadget of this type. It lasted about 15 years but it was a pain to maintain (rhyme not intended). I have hopes this one will not need the batteries replaced as often.

UPDATE: It started giving impossibly high outdoor temperature. Their tech support asked what kind of batteries I was using. I said it was these (AmazonBasics AA Performance Alkaline Batteries) Amazon batteries. She said that's your problem. No house brands are acceptable, only well known name brand batteries can be used in the unit. I replied, okay I have two name brands of heavy duty non alkaline batteries. No, those aren't acceptable either. Finally I then said,. I have three name brands of NiMh rechargable batteries. No, you can't use rechargeables either. I probably have 40+ AA batteries of various brands around the house but, according to her, none are usable in this unit, and I have to drive to the store and buy more batteries. Just to top this off, batteries need an expiration date that's 6 years out. This is absurd ! So, I'm lowering my rating from 5 stars to 3.

PS I would have inserted a link to the Amazon batteries above, but apparently Amazon doesn't know they sell Amazon batteries.
Indoor Humidity Not Accurate
January 10, 2016
I'm not sure if this one is going to work. I bought this for my father a couple of weeks ago to replace a much older AcuRite digital thermometer that was failing. It was easy to set up of course, but I have a bad feeling that this is a bad unit, for the indoor humidity is stuck at 29% which doesn't line up with a manual humidity gauge sitting next to it. Were it that low, there would be frequent static shocks from the carpet as well as a few nosebleeds. The outdoor temp and humidity appear to be just fine and the indoor temp is also accurate. It's just the humidity indoors.

I think I will remove the batteries to 'reset' it, if that is even possible, then set up again and see if that helps. If not, I suppose it will go back. Then will raise or lower the rating.
Good when working
December 6, 2015
Have had this unit for about a year and a half and have been pleased until recently when the outside readings stopped working. I have the outside unit mounted on the inside of my front porch eve - completely protected from elements. Changed batteries in both units which didn't seem to help. Was about to throw it away but decided to open up the outside unit and discovered that one of the leads to the battery was detached and somewhat corroded looking. Quick soldering job solved the problem and I'm back up and working now. Like the overall appearance and seems relatively accurate when working, rating reflects my disappointment in overall quality.
Poor calibration: Even when the remote sensor is sitting ...
September 14, 2015
Poor calibration:
Even when the remote sensor is sitting right next to the base station, the indoor and outdoor temperatures are off by a degree or two.

Uninspired support:
I called support to ask if I could recalibrate. I was 17th in line. After five minutes or so, I'd only gotten down to #10 in line, so I opted to have them call me back. "without losing my place in line!" They didn't call back. Approx 2 hours later, I remembered, and called them again. They'd already closed. (Support til 5pm Central) No option to leave a message. Lame. ...To their credit, they did eventually call back that same day. Support was friendly but not helpful.

Poor documentation:
Support told me that my degree or so of discrepancy was within the +/-2 degree calibration present in "all thermometers".
Neither the manual nor product listing mentions this.I call BS, anyhow. There are plenty of more diligently calibrated thermometers out there.

Poor readability:
If the lighting is not perfect, it's difficult to read both temperatures from some angles when only a few feet away.
I would not purchase this item again. I use one other AcuRite item and while it's nothing to write home about, it's okay, so I'm not totally severing consumer/company ties ;)

...But, after living with it for a few months, I added a couple more stars. Why? I got over the fact that it's poorly calibrated. I don't even remember which one is colder/hotter than the other. I've just resolved to be okay knowing I'm somewhere in the ballpark when I look at the AcuRite 00611A3.

I liked it enough to buy a second one
July 27, 2017
I bought this unit in 2014 for use in my travel trailer. It works well and is easy to read. Shortly after the warranty expired, the set buttons for the time stopped working. So whenever the time changed, I would have to go out exactly at noon in order to get the time right because it always resets at 12 o'clock. Well I got tired of doing this twice a year so I liked it enough to buy another. I hope the new one works better.I received the Thermometer yesterday. I could not get the sensor to match up with the home unit. I followed all the instructions and nothing worked. I took the old sensor off of my trailer and it matched up perfectly with the new home base. I threw the new sensor in the trash. Must be some quality issues here!
Works okay, but overly-difficult setup and limited range
May 28, 2017
Basically this works pretty much as advertised, but it is just okay. I own the base unit and two sensors that I use for outdoor temp and in a poly hoop house with tender plants.First, the advertised range of "up to 330 ft". While that may be true, the manufacturers instructions state that wall or glass that the signal passes through will reduce the range by half. My furthest range is a little over 100 ft and the signal passes through plastic and then into the house through a window. I can't think of any applications where I wouldn't need to pass through at least one wall or piece of glass. My effective range is more like 80 ft. Seems like that should be more clearly stated from the outset rather than buried in the instructions. When I saw the stated range of 330 ft, I thought I was well within range when really I was at the limit.Next, pairing the sensors to the base unit. What I would expect is to insert the batteries, place the sensors and start reading the remote temperatures. It doesn't happen that way. With more than one sensor you have bring everything to one spot, remove batteries from everything, wait 15 mins, press a button 20 times, insert the batteries in a specific order for each device and wait for them to sync. If this was a one-time procedure, it would not be a big deal, but my units sometimes inexplicably loose contact, or on occasion I move them apparently out of range, so I have to look up the whole process again. In short, if your use involves a single remote that passes through only one wall, you are probably okay. If it is anything more complicated, beware of the hidden limitations.
Doesn't really record the outside temperature well if you live ...
December 30, 2016
Doesn't really record the outside temperature well if you live in an apartment as I do, so I'm not sure if its recording the inside correctly. It's just okay, I wanted to keep a record of my landlords redundant policy of low heat on winter days, but the accuracy is faulty. The temperature outside will read higher than the correct outside temperature.
2 years worth
December 11, 2016
Received as a gift worked perfectly for a year, so I purchased one for a out building which worked well but the batteries in the base station died quickly. The original unit worked flawlessly and didn't even need batteries changed for almost a year, the remote sensor needed new batteries after about six months. After two years though everything failed. Remote sensor won't link up, batteries in the controller drain within days of being replaced. The thing is, I have had other similar units and they all sucked worse.
Works At Shorter Ranges
June 17, 2016
I bought this to replace a failed Acu-Rite temperature unit. I selected the LaCrosse because the stated range was more than the Acu-rite. I have a barn I like to monitor the temperature in. It's about 50 yards from the house. The LaCrosse has trouble covering this distance where the Acu-rite had no issues. The LaCrosse drops signal frequently necessitating a reset by pulling the batteries for a few seconds and restarting the transmitter and receiver. I tried moving both units in hopes of getting a stable signal to no avail. The units work well when the distance is about 10 yards less than where my barn is.The bottomline, works but not at the range stated.
INCOMPLETE & CONFUSING START UP INSTRUCTIONS
June 6, 2016
Note: I found that if you used two different types of batteries in the 2 different units it will not work! I had Lithium batteries in the outdoor sensor and alkaline batteries in the indoor unit because customer service told me you should not use lithium in the indoor unit. I returned/exchanged one set of devices and on the second set had the same problem i.e. that the outdoor sensor never registered on the indoor receiver. On a hunch, I put alkaline batteries in both the indoor and outdoor units and voila - it worked! There is nothing about this in the instructions or on their website so I hope this saves someone else some aggravation. Also, a cumbersome start up process and again, the start up instructions don't tell you to wait until the units sync before trying to set the clock. This instruction only appears in the fine print on the back of the outdoor sensor.Once you get it to work, it seems fine but it is a confusing process to get there.

Inside/outside units didn't seem to communicate.
July 23, 2017
I bought this some time ago, and the outdoor unit did not seem to work. I didn't feel that it was fair to complain to the seller, since my patio faced west and it was close to impossible to situate the sensors as suggested.
I moved into a new home this April and the outdoor unit still doesn't work -- and I did change the batteries.
The inside display appears to be accurate -- but not worth much to me, since I can look at my thermostat!
Not worth it in the long run
April 21, 2017
Loved this thermometer for the first 8 months. We placed the outdoor sensor on a tree in a relatively protected area. It was very accurate. However, after winter, it stopped working. I'm not sure what happened, if it was the cold weather (although we had a relatively mild winter for Michigan), or just it went bad. Now the outdoor reading for temperature is consistently at least 5 degrees off, sometimes a lot more. And the outdoor humidity will say 1% when it's raining, lol. Changing the batteries did not help. As much as I want to like this product, it is not worth it in the long run.
Temp accuracy okay but RH not very good.
April 1, 2017
I have only had this item for one day but accuracy is a concern. I placed the indoor unit and outdoor sensor next to each other on a table indoors. After 12 hours the temperature readings are within two degrees. Not so bad. The humidity however had greater variation. The indoor read 50% and outdoor 55 to 56% percent. This morning I took the outdoor sensor outside to see how it compared to various sites that report weather conditions for our town. Much bigger variation here. Multiple local sites were reporting around 80% RH while the weather station reads 58-60%. So when testing indoors the outdoors sensor was reading 10% higher than the indoor unit. Outside it is reading 25% lower than local conditions.
Good idea, but remote sensor is eating batteries like candy

Would love it, except the remote sensor seems to chew through batteries on a 1 to 2-week basis. Remote is under the house in a crawlspace, directly under the indoor receiver, separated by 4 feet of air and 2 inches of plywood. I thought the first quick battery death was because I used old batteries. Second set, I checked before loading and they were green all the way. Noticed after a couple of weeks that the numbers on the "outside" sensor hadn't changed in quite a while, then noticed the remote sensor icon on the main receiver was showing "no bars". Replaced batteries again, with known good new batteries and this time noted the date. Noticed today (10 days later) that the numbers hadn't changed for the remote sensor for a couple of days, then looked more closely and saw the remote display on the main receiver at zero bars again. Peeked under the house at the remote and sure enough, no red LED blinking to indicate the unit is transmitting. Maybe I have a defective remote sensor? Don't see a way to contact seller (Amazon) for this order. Will put in new batteries again tomorrow and see if the 8 to 14 day life span continues.
Update: 3 months later, remote sensor is even more "hungry" for batteries. Now a fresh pair lasts 3-4 days. Called Acu-Rite number on the warranty info. Started at #15 in queue, finally got a rep after 40 minutes on hold. Will be shipping a replacement remote unit under warranty.
Cute, but no support - not recommended
October 6, 2016
I bought this as a Christmas gift for my husband, and it worked well for about 6-7 months. Then, the batteries wore out. I replaced with fresh ones, and have not been able to get the outside temp and humidity to work since. I've tried all their troubleshooting tips multiple times with no result. There's no email to contact the company; it's past its return date; no 'contact seller' link on Amazon, and the phone number either says it's not in service due to technical issues, or I'm placed on a long hold line. (The best I ever did was #28 in line.) I've left callback numbers, and tried intermittently to call, but no one can sit by the phone for hours and days waiting for a call. If the end of the day comes while you're still in line, you just have to start over. The product is cute, when it works, but the support is terrible, and after roaming their website looking for other ways to contact them, it sounds like most of their products aren't that reliable.

Inaccurate and outdoor temp doesn't connect even when right next to main device
June 6, 2017
I've been extremely disappointed at how poorly the connection works for the "outdoor" temperature. I've replaced batteries, reset the thermometer, and have tried multiple occasions of having the independent outdoor sensor sitting right next to the main thermometer (indoors) and it still won't read the outdoor sensor. And when it does (and the two are side by side) the temperature readings are off by 2-3 degrees, so it decreases my confidence that this is even accurate. Very frustrating, and waste of money for a digital paperweight.
The 330 feet transmitting range in the description is very misleading.
March 18, 2017
In the description it says it will "transmit" 330 feet, but I discovered that does not guarantee reception. I purchased this to reach roughly 300 feet, but quickly discovered that range was out of the question. The farthest I can get it to reach is 90 feet when in line-of-site, and that is when the receiver is in a window. If I place the receiver anywhere but in the window it loses reception. Also, once it loses its reception it will not automatically find it back. You must pull the batteries out of both the receiver and transmitter, reinsert them, and then let the transmitter and receiver reconnect. Also I discovered that after doing the above process of reestablishing the signal connection it lost the signal again while carrying the receiver indoors where it momentarily was not in line-of-site of the receiver.
These Thermometers Don't Hold Up Well
January 16, 2017
I own three of these thermometers. I like the display. Two have worked for two years or more and are of reasonable accuracy for my purposes. One of these is a replacement for an earlier model that failed. One of the three has failed. Based on another reviewer’s experience of opening the failed transmitter and finding corrosion, I did the same. I found corrosion across the battery terminals where they connect to the circuit board. I cleaned off corrosion and unit started working again for several days, and then failed again. It ran fresh batteries down in this time, so I assume there is still a corrosion problem. I don’t recommend doing this in hopes of a permanent fix, as the case has to be cut open. The manufacturer should fix this problem. I plan to purchase a different brand and see if it works better and lasts longer.
Time works - inside temperature works - outside temperature not so much
January 12, 2017
Keeps time perfect to the second. Inside temperature is correct. When outside temperature is displayed it is the same as the temperature on the weather channel. I used the word "WHEN" - meaning most of the time three blank lines are shown, not the temperature. The outside temperature comes and goes to suit itself. Sending back is not something that's easy to do (rural living). It's winter here in West Virginia and the procedure requires the outside units to be brought to within 5 feet of the receiving unit. That's why I purchased the remote temperature monitor - to stay out of the cold. I believe the term is lazy. Maybe in the spring I will revisit this problem.
Durability issues.
September 4, 2016
Two issues for me, one small, one big. The small: The outdoor sensor always seems to overstate the temperature in warmer weather. Tried moving it around to make sure it is not in the direct sunlight but it still seems to put the outside temperature at least 5-10 degrees too high in the heat of the day between June and October. That would have still earned four stars. But, the big: the receiver, which displays the readings, unit went complete dead 18 months after purchase. Tried fresh batteries but there is no display at all. One year warranty.
Better than their earlier units, but wildly inaccurate at high and low termps.
April 30, 2015
Had an earlier Lacrosse remote thermometer that died after 5 years or so. This one has smaller digits, harder to see from a distance, but on the positive side it was much quicker to establish the wireless link than the old one, which often took half a dozen tries.Added on 21 Jun 2015: This unit has proven to be wildly inaccurate at high and low temps, as compared with my mercury bulb lab thermometer. It correlates within 1 degree only in the range from 50 to 60 degrees F. At 85 on the lab thermometer the La Crosse displays 94 degrees! Laid the sensor unit in a foam cooler with some ice packs and the lab thermometer, and found that at 30 F. the LaCrosse reads 27 degrees. In service the sender is mounted on a window frame IN SHADE, next to an old alcohol bulb thermometer which correlates much better. Metrology was my career - we'd say that this unit is highly non-linear.

Piece of garbage
May 8, 2017
I suspect this thing just makes up numbers and displays them.

I placed the outside sensor right next to the display and let it sit for an hour. It is ~72 degrees inside my house.

The outside sensor says 45 F and the inside sensor says 68 F.

I have tried removing the batteries from both parts, tried placing it in different locations, using different batteries, etc. and it just does the same thing.

Complete waste of money. Do not buy.
Quality appears low and poor customer support
August 15, 2016
My first unit of this same model lasted 2 years until the transmitter failed. I assumed I had bad luck and bought a new one after noticing it had gone on sale. The new transmitter also failed after 10 months despite (both) of them mounted outdoors protected from the elements. After 2 days of troubleshooting and following their online instructions I determined it simply failed and called for a replacement under warranty. I waited a full hour on hold only to finally reach a customer service rep who didn't like it that I wouldn't give him my email address. I became frustrated with his attitude and decided that for $9.95 (what I paid) that I didn't need to subject myself to this and can look for a different brand. I did enjoy the display unit but the product quality appears poor if it doesn't last 2 years.
It is great when it works, but ....
May 7, 2016
If this device works, it will be a great little thing to have. But my unit only worked sporadically. After the first night, the display just disappeared. New battries didnt help. After several different tries, it seemed that there was a lose connection somewhere. I tightened the covers, the display came back. But after 2 days, the same problem happened again. Fixed it, happened again. What a shame. I am going to try a replacement and hope it works the second time around, but otherwise i am going to have to ask for a refund. This is too bad. It would have been a great device to have around the house to keep track of the temp and humidity.
Inaccurate
April 19, 2016
I am very disappointed with this product. We purchased this to monitor the temp and humidity in our living space and in our son's room. When I initially set up the system, I followed the instructions. Put the batteries in, screen turned on- signal was good and it seemed like it was all set. I sat the display and wireless sensor on the counter in the kitchen about a foot from each other and of course got pulled away for some reason or another. When I came back, the two readings didn't match. If the display takes a reading and the sensor takes a reading right next to each other, shouldn't they both be reading the exact temperature and humidity. Everything I have tried to fix the problem has not helped. I have put the wireless sensor in another room and the outdoor sensor consistently shows an extremely lower humidity value. Next step is calling the company but if they can't help, I want my money back.
grossly wrong readings sending replacement back for refund
August 3, 2014
first review : there are micro climates where i live so one area can be completely different than the next adjacent area in terms of temperature and humidity, which was driving me a bit mad seeing as how i was testing out new portable air conditioner units. after getting tired of using the meat thermometer to gauge temperature changes i got this w/same day delivery. it was delivered same day which was a treat, but the outdoor unit seems to be on the fritz when i woke up this morning reading 80% humidity when every weather station nearby said it was at most 65%, the temp said it was 89 degrees when again every weather station nearby said it was at most 75 degrees. called amazon asked for a replacement, they said they couldn't get it here until tomorrow but when i told them i saw on the site if i bought a new one they would deliver it same day, they agreed to have the replacement delivered today, so i'll try the second one out to see if the outdoor piece works better. will post update

second review : received the replacement , set the outdoor remote up again , and again grossly wrong readings. sending it back for a refund.

this is the second La Crosse thermomenter on which the outdoor monitor failed to operate. On this one, the monitor did not even fit in its holder. I am done with La Crosse Technology.

Unit worked for one day then lost contact with the outdoor sensor. Indoor receiver was initially located 30' from outdoor sensor then moved 10' closerwhere it picked up the outside temperature on one cycle. Would not update after that cycle, so I moved the indoor unit to the kitchen table6' away from the outside sensor. Still inoperative= POS junk. Returning for refund

Do not buy. It only worked when the sensor was five feet away. In the same room it always read 2.5 degrees different when they should of read the same. It never worked through a window or wall. I don't know how it got good reviews. This is the second remote thermometer I have purchased and neither one worked, I don't believe the technology is there at least on these low end ones.
Waste of time and money
September 15, 2016
Waste of time and money. Purchased this unit with high hopes based on my experience with prior thermometer. I have spent over an hour trying to get the remote sensor to pair with the main unit without any success. I have tried changing out new alkaline batteries, tested the batteries and strictly following all the set up and reset instructions to no avail. I even watched a YouTube video from the manufacturer and exactly followed their instructions and still couldn't get the remote sensor to pair. Sending it back and trying something else.
The batteries in the sensor transmitter last about 2 months ...
October 24, 2015
The batteries in the sensor transmitter last about 2 months, maximum. I originally installed the sensor about 20 feet away from the display unit and the first set of batteries were too weak to produce an adequate signal within a month. I now have the sensor about 3 feet from the display and the unit will function for about two months before the sensor batteries require replacement. The house is wood frame construction so there are no unusual conditions that impact radio frequency signals. I have other LaCrosse models, and the sensor batteries last about a year with those.
Garbage! DO NOT BUY THIS!
October 7, 2015
If you enjoy wasting time and batteries, buy this weather station. The customer support is a JOKE as others have said. You can expect this to MAYBE work until the first set of batteries run out, which may not take long. After that the remote sensor cannot be found. All I have now is a clock that also shows the temperature in my house (+ or - 5 degrees accuracy). JUNK!
