Five Star Reviews: | 34% Great set for the price. June 4, 2017 Heavy duty. Not the fanciest set but overall it's great for the price! Yes, I added a couple real sticks for roasting marshmallows lol. I would have been screwed without these the other night when a whole log literally popped out of the fireplace. Fortunately I had a fireproof hearth rug to protect my carpet (get one!) and quickly grabbed my shovel to toss it back in the fireplace. Smokey the Bear would have been proud of me. Side note: expect the unexpected like that and always keep a good fire extinguisher near by. Good for the price but doesn't come in an unmarked box. February 19, 2017 Upon receiving this item, I was kind of upset at the fact that they just slapped a shipping label on the actual box and sent it off. The box was the products box. So you could clearly see what I was getting.Have I not been home and my mail person left the item near my door, more than likely, it would have been stolen. So that's is the one area of improvement I would recommend to review for the company. However, as for the items themselves, they're great. For the price, the quality is great. They're sturdy, they don't heat up towards the handle and they serve their purpose.I would recommend this. 5 Stars for a VERY specific reason December 23, 2015 First off if you expect a $150-$200 QUALITY set then this set is NOT for you. These are cheap metal/bristles and great for looks mostly. The poker is ample for normal use. The broom is lack luster synthetic bristles that I would be afraid would melt if left too close to the fire but as long as you are using them to sweep cooled ashes (as intended) you should be fine.Very easy to assemble. Took less than 5 minutes INCLUDING when we realized we used the wrong rod for the stand instead of the brush. (Note tallest rod with nut for stand, shortest with nut for brush - yup it's obvious AFTER you do it backwards). The stand takes a small footprint and is quite sturdy. The brush tool is a little awkward hanging on the back. The handle on the brush bumps the ball on the stand so it doesn't quite sit in the notch that is supposed to keep it hanging securely. (So cats, dogs and/or kids bumping it will SOMETIMES result in a falling brush). The former wrought iron handles screw into powder coated threaded metal rods. The handles are nice and heavy (as most wrought iron is) and has a nice feel in your hand. Now - it actually got 5 stars from us because we ONLY wanted it for looks. We have a remote controlled gas fireplace but it always looked naked without the normal fireplace tools to complete the "real" fire look. So for us they are perfectly shaped and perfectly priced. Also would be a great starter set for someone who really doesn't want/need/could afford a $150+ set of tools. Great deal for the money. No stability issues for me. March 15, 2015 Attractive stand that is a great value for the money. I'm not certain what everyone is talking about with stability issues because I haven't had any problems. Note that the shovel and the fire poker are to be used with the longer rods, and the brush is a shorter rod. Make sure the brush goes on the back of the stand. I think that could resolve a lot of the alleged stability concerns. Perfect for my fire pit! October 24, 2014 Very sturdy tools for the price. The shovel can be bent, but because you should only use it to scoop ashes and not for digging up zombies and vampires, there should never be an issue. The bristles on the broom were bent to one side, but after hanging on the holder for a while, they are now straight. The stand does have a rather narrow base, but it is very heavy to it isn't ridiculously unsteady. Overall, I am extremely happy with this purchase! Just fine minus a nut December 29, 2011 This was just what I expected--a good value for the limited use it will get. As others have mentioned, the assembly instructions could have been clearer so that one would know which parts to screw onto which rods, but it worked out. The rods are numbered in the instructions but the actual parts are not labeled and each rod is a different length. The rod with the longest threads is used for the stand. No problems at all with tippiness. The assembly instructions call for three nuts, but only two were provided and only two are shown on the diagram. Bottom line: I'm perfectly happy with the product and rather enjoyed the challenge of the assembly process! It gets 5 stars from me because it is exactly what I expected at this price. | 83% Great fireplace tool set!!! June 6, 2015 Great fireplace tool set! For all the cheap Chinese junk out there nowadays its tough to find anything of quality that will last. This tool set has proven to be strong and reliable. I heat with wood, so my fireplace toolset gets used every day. It has held up incredibly well, due to the fact that they are a one piece design and made of steel. The one piece tool design also means that when you're trying to twist the poker to turn a log it won't come loose like tools with a two piece, thread on handle. The stand is also a one piece, sturdy as heII design. And, unlike most crap nowadays that requires assembly, this set you literally pull the stand out of the box, unwrap the bubble wrap from the tools and hang the tools on the stand. For the money you can't go wrong with this set. A+ all the way. Nicely Made. January 16, 2015 Very nicely constructed. Not cheaply done. No screws holding it together. Good finish that seems like powder coating. Well sized. I really like the pick up tong. It makes it easy to grab a log and place it where I want. The only issue is that the poker hook is longer than I'd like. You get used to it by angling the the poker, but at times it does make it awkward. I'll take a hacksaw to it to shorten it. I would not let that stop you from buying this. I have changed my review from 4 stars to 5 now that I got used to it. Please click that you liked this review if it was helpful. Thanks. nice set October 13, 2013 No flimsy parts, well built...in China but can't beat the price for this set. Really happy that it does not have a wobbly base like most sets. Poker is good length as well, many times they are too long or to short. Looks great next to our wood burning stove Good Product for a Good Price January 3, 2013 I originally bought this set for my son as a gift. My husband and I were so impressed with it, that we turned around and purchased one for ourselves. The set is very sturdy. It sits nicely on our hearth and does not "wobble" around. Our old set, which was a brass one with oak handles, was not nearly as sturdy as this set. (Our old set also cost significantly more than this set!) The wrought iron has a smooth finish to it; the center weave gives the set a nice look; and, the tools all look well made. So far, they have worked out great. (As a side note, for those buyers also interested in a log holder, we also bought the "Uniflame Black Wrought Iron Log Rack with Scrolls." It matches this tool set perfectly!) Perfect fireplace tool set November 24, 2012 Just what I wanted for our home. Simple, sleek, and functional. Stand works great and is very sturdy unlike so many that are top heavy and fall over with the tools. Excellent! November 8, 2012 For sure the most durable set I have ever had. Looks beautiful, works excellent! Strong wrought iron!I tell ya.....get this set! |
Four Star Reviews: | 20% Like others say November 27, 2016 For the price, it is functional and what I would expect. Like others say, it can be easily knocked over or somewhat wobbly but personally, I have not had any issues with the stability of it at all. The only iffy thing about the design is that there is a detached metal top piece on the brush that likes to move up and down the handle when being used. Otherwise, great value for a simple set. a great little (and i do mean little) set of fireplace ... January 15, 2016 For the price, a great little (and i do mean little) set of fireplace tools. Either I grew 6' more in height or these are made for tiny fireplace attendants in the Keebler elf tree. I may be reflecting back to sets we had growing up where they seemed larger, but overall these work well. Tip to tip each is approximately 24.5 inches. as expected, fairly heavy duty, comes with stand ... January 4, 2016 as expected, fairly heavy duty, comes with stand, poker, broom and pan. For some reason thought tongs were included but ended up having to purchase them separately which put this 'steal' (was about $15 less than the others I looked at, but when you add $10-20 for the tongs it ends up about the same but you'd have stand that fits everything - do put the tongs I bought separately on the stand, but they can be knocked down.) at the same price as the others that did include tongs. Correctly Priced January 1, 2016 This is a $23 toolset. Expect a $23 toolset.I bought this more as an aesthetic piece rather than to use. I have it in a room where we rarely make a fire. I have a sturdier set in our den which we use much more often. If you are buying a piece to use often, this is probably not the best set. It isn't very sturdy and if the tools aren't put back in the correct order it can easily tip over. The base is not very large or stable. This is more for aesthetic purposes. It is attractive. As far as usefulness, I could see this being a very frustrating toolset. Not bad but not for families November 2, 2015 I dont think this is so bad at all. It is definitely not the nicest set you could buy but I did not want to spend a fortune on one of these sets, and I am happy I purchased this. I do not think this would be a good purchase for families with small children because it could be knocked over easily. If you have small children you will need to consider keeping these behind a screen or out of view of your children. Not a Forever Stand, But Works like Should October 1, 2011 I also needed an inexpensive set, holdover just for this winter, then buy something better next year.Didn't really need any instructions to put together, but later realized should PROBABLY read the labels for the Various Rod parts prior to assembly.I noticed the Handles or Poker ends would screw on a little loose. I unscrewed them, and restarted. They are meant to go down deep on the rods, past where the screw ridges end. Once tightened very well, there is no problem with loose handles, brush nor poker. The Brush did come a little scrunched up, will follow the advice of another reviewer to use the blow dryer. The item is actually 3.5 stars, since it says it comes with 3 nuts - but only two are supplied (I scoured the packaging, its not there). The missing Nut holds the base of the Stand Rod to the Set Base. Thus, the Stand Rod is a little wavering. However, this ALSO seems to cause less of a tip-over problem, since the unit just tilts a little, and doesn't include the base in that tip.It looks good, not grand, with the fireplace and colors in my living room. Debating whether I will call for the third nut, but it functions fine without it so far. Recommended for those in need of basic tools for the fireplace AND are on a tight budget. | 11% Very Good December 9, 2016 This is my first set set of fireplace tools so I don't have any previous tools to compare. But these seem to be well made, solid construction. The shovel is just the right size for cleaning my fireplace. The brush is not spectacular but certainly does the job. Overall, I am happy with my purchase. Good for the price October 21, 2016 very nice fireplace set for the price. They are good and heavy. The shovel head is riveted on instead of welded, and the broom head is plastic and cheap. The rest is good and solid. Great unit, but lousy poker March 13, 2016 It looks great, but the poker is pretty dull. its all one piece, but I think they could have put a little more effort into the design of the poker..I recommend it, but I also give feedback to redesign the poker... I mean c'mon... satisfied with the product December 31, 2015 Basic set. You get what you pay for. Broom bristles have frayed a bit over the last few months. Otherwise, satisfied with the product. Does the job December 16, 2015 These are made in China, there was a sticker on it that said made in China. The coating isn't the best, there were lots of spots right out of the box where you could see the finish wasn't completely coated on there. It is decently heavy so they don't seem they're gonna break from use. The dust pan and broom work surprisingly well. The stand works just like it should and is convenient.I don't really use the log grabber all that much as its kind of awkward and difficult but useful sometimes but most times I just use the poker. My only suggestion would be to make them maybe a little bit longer as when I'm using the poker I start getting burned really quickly by the heat coming from the fireplace and feel like I should be wearing gloves and feel like if the tool was longer I wouldn't have to be as close to the fire. All in all a functional useful toolset if you aren't expecting perfection or that it's made in China. Great strong set for reasonable price! April 10, 2014 Excellent strength of construction. The stand is very sturdy and will not come apart. In fact there are no bolts in the apparatus. It is not wrought iron, but definitely a thick steel. The only complaint I have, is a wish the tools were about 3-4 inches longer. Can't get better than this for the money. |
Three Star Reviews: | 21% It's nice to get an all-steel kit at this price May 20, 2017 It's nice to get an all-steel kit at this price. I've seen others where parts of the stand aren't as solid as this one. However, it does seem that the stand and handles don't stay screwed in very well; I always find myself having to tighten everything when I use them. But for as little as we use our fireplace, it's ok with me. If you want functionality - this isn't your best choice January 25, 2017 I bought this set for aesthetics alone. I have a gas fireplace so I don't need to use any of these tools. Having owned a wood fireplace I would strongly suggest that these tools would not be the "go to" for functionality. If you are just out to decorate a space - good purchase. If you want functionality - this isn't your best choice. I realize this product was only $20 bucks but was disappointed with the quality October 12, 2016 Just received this today and put it together. The product is cheaply made. The handles don't fit snuggly so the poker, brush and shovel don't stand straight and hit the base. I realize this product was only $20 bucks but was disappointed with the quality. Will anyone in the modern age develop a set of ... January 29, 2016 Will anyone in the modern age develop a set of fire tools that don't unscrew themselves from the handle with daily use?! Infuriating. Basically, when you go to use the shovel or poker, after a few times the handle and head, both threaded to the center handle rod, begin to rotate and come loose. UNACCEPTABLE. I usually angrily force the threads to go even tighter, and I may eventually bother to research a fireproof, hi-temp, epoxy or something to attach these tools to themselves once and for all. For now I will just glare at them and force the threads while I do my business around the fireplace. Works, but you get what you pay for January 10, 2016 The product says 4 piece fireset and that is true. The reality is the assembly instructions are poor at best since there are no indications as to which rod is intended for which tool. The biggest problem is that the handle rest at the top of the stand has an opening that is larger than the diameter of the handles so the tools just fall through it. I picked the rod lengths so that the handles would be slightly above the rest with the point of the poker and shovel against the base. After looking closely at the photo that appears to be what is intended but every fireset I have ever used normally had the tools hanging from the handle rest and not just surrounded by it. This makes the tool harder to remove/replace than it should be. It does work but it really is shoddy quality. The stand is super wobbly and as of last night January 7, 2016 The 3 tools are decently made but the stand is complete junk. I should have just gone to the local Menards and paid a couple bucks more. The stand is super wobbly and as of last night, the base just fell off and the whole thing toppled over. We have a wood stove that gets used very regularly in the winter months and when your getting a fire going or adding logs, I don't really want to fumble around trying to get tools out of a rack to use quickly. The stand for this doesn't even hold the tools well and make it cumbersome to use. If it wasn't for the tools being decent this would have gotten 2 stars. Don't waste your money unless you just need the tools. | 1% Took a few months to get here & I'm disappointed. It's OK but not really what I was ... April 2, 2017 Took a few months to get here & I'm disappointed. It's OK but not really what I was expecting. Seems small & kinda cheap, quality is not as good as my last set. nice looking tool set, a couple slight issues November 29, 2015 Sturdy tools. The stand is a little uneven but not wobbly enough to tip over.I especially like the tongs which easily pick up logs. The brush came with bent bristles but is usable. For the price, it's a good value. |
Two Star Reviews: | 11% The sticks and handles are pretty low quality and don't feel like they would last ... April 7, 2017 The heads of the sticks with the brush or poker do not twist on very tight so pure constantly having to tighten them again, even while tending to a fire. The sticks and handles are pretty low quality and don't feel like they would last through a couple winters. Very Poor Quality January 20, 2016 Very poorly made. The poker end comes unscrewed every time you use it. The bristles on the brush are some sort of nylon - definitely NOT heat resistant. I used it once to brush ash and coals off the tray in front of the door and that single swipe across the hot metal was enough to melt the bristles. The entire assembly is wobbly in spite of daily tightening. Spend the extra money and get a decent set of tools.... this isn't it. Better value out there! December 20, 2014 This 4 piece unit was bought to supplement my previous purchase of the UniFlame 5-Piece F-1188 Fire Set from Amazon. My plan was to make an "ash rake" from one of the handles and use the rack to hang the least used accessories from that first purchase. The Five piece unit is a couple of inches taller than the 4 piece one and the accessories actually "hang" from the stand "blade" or top guide piece. I like the 5 piece unit a lot even though it was 30% more. The difference in quality between the two is apparent.I was actually hoping the 4 piece unit was a smaller version of the 1st one I bought. Unfortunately it isn't the same, and had notches in the smaller handles. On the 4 piece unit only one of the three accessories hangs from the top guide while the other two are corralled by it and touch the stand base. Over time this will mark the stand base. The brush handle is quite short in length. I had a bit of trouble getting the handles to screw on but rotated them until they all fit. Shipping was fast and the unit was well packed. As mentioned, I had other plans for this second fire place set. I removed two of the smaller handles which I placed on the 5 piece unit's log tongs. I then removed the shovel (spade part) from the handle after drilling out the rivets. I heated the rod about 1.5 inched from the non-handle end and bent the it 90 degrees. I flattened the 1/4" shovel rim, trimmed it square and filed it to remove sharp spots. I cut slices out of one of the longer sides to make teeth for my ah rake and reattached it all with small bolts and one of my 5 unit handles. I exchanged another handle and placed it on the on "poker" giving me two matched pokers, one a bit longer than the other. The only piece not employed in the endeavor was the second brush, but who know I might find something for it one day.Tried the new ash rake on the wood stove and it worked great. I am happy overall with this second fire set purchase. It met my needs but its smaller size, limited ability to hang its accessories and perceived functionality is less than the UniFlame 5-Piece F-1188 Fire Set. In my opinion the 5 piece unit is a better deal even if you don't use the log tongs very often. I'd only recommend the 5-Piece one if you were trying to decide which unit to purchase... You get what you pay for... June 2, 2014 This is cheap.... both price and quality. It was missing several parts when I got it and a call to customer service did get me the missing parts about 2 months later. It is flimsy and will tip over easily if you're not very careful and the knobs on the handle that you hang the pieces by slip through and they fall down if you're not very careful with how you place them. It is also missing what I found to be the key piece necessary for a good fire. The tongs. I ended up using my heavy duty grill tongs. It worked but it looked wonky. If this is really all you're willing to spend you can probably make it work but you're better off spending a little more for a nicer set. For the price I expected better. January 18, 2014 I paid $36 for this set what I got was something that I would not have paid more than $20 at Walmart. The tools are of poor quality. The brush bristles have a permanent twist in them as to make that tool worthless. They are made of a cheap nylon and they probably got their deformation while sitting in storage. The poker head unscrews easily with regular use. I had to put some threadlocker in there to prevent it from coming off in the fire. The shafts and the tool tips are made of different metals so as they get hot (Remember designed for a fireplace) they expand at different rates. Causing it to loosen up.The instructions are also worthless. We tried assembling the tools by following them but it was so confusing that we threw them out and just used common sense and they went together with ease.In all. I don't recommend these tools at any price. Brush Holder Improperly Sized October 7, 2013 For the money, the quality is reasonable in all respects save one. The portion of the holder designed to hold the brush is too narrow to accept the brush in the way that it was designed. It will hang on the edge, but it won't slide all the way in so that it hangs securely. I've decided to keep the product as shipping it back would have been significant expense compared to the cost. It will still function for tending a fireplace, but I can't really recommend this item. | 3% Was very disappointed in the size and the quality February 4, 2017 I returned this item right after I unpackaged it. Was very disappointed in the size and the quality. The shovel and the brush were very small. Would not hold or sweep much ashes. Will keep looking for a better quality to purchase. I would not recommend buying this product unless it is just for looks. Ok but rack is too light weight September 10, 2014 It's ok. The rack is light weight and feels a little flemsy. Would have liked for it to feel and look stronger. Wrought Iron Fireplace Set December 28, 2012 The items are smaller than expected and a lot more light weight than expected. Tongs are awkward to use. Difficult to see these things from a photo though. |
One Star Reviews: | 14% Perfect gift for your ex-wife, ex-husband, the guy who kicked your dog or the police officer who give you a ticket. April 20, 2017 Worst Christmas gift I've ever gave in my life. Cheap material and can barely stand up by itself. I begged to have it back so I could return and get a nicer gift for the person. They kept it because it was for a 3rd fireplace in their home and was not used a lot for fires. My only redemption was that I got them other gifts. Falls apart. December 10, 2016 Very poor quality. This is the only Amazon purchase I regret in 5 years. One must assemble the tools on arival, which is fine. However, the handles don't fit to the rods properly. Imagine poking a fire, and the tool falls out of the handle and into the fire... I will be purchasing a different set. Buyer beware December 4, 2016 Shovel caught on fire pushing some coals back, made my whole house stink; poker keeps coming unscrewed, or at least it loosens it self so mid adjusting the end starts to come undone(hopefully a hot firey log doesn't try to come rolling out of your fireplace), even tried to tighten with channel locks, still comes undone, too bad I threw the box away already or ide return them.... Cheap, cheap cheap. November 29, 2016 Cheaply made, looks cheap, is smaller in dimension than typical tool sets. Could only be considered "ornamental" and not functional at all. (Full disclosure, I was only wanting ornamental) Buyer beware. Returning ASAP. My fault for ordering cheapest I could find. When will I learn? Looked cheap!! October 22, 2016 I bought this and it wasn't as tall as I had expected but that was my fault for not measuring. I had to sort of put it together and it was very flimsy after I was done although it was as tight as it could be. I ended up sending it back because it was low and flimsy and looked very cheap. cheap China garbage February 7, 2015 Very cheap. Handles won't stay on, ends of the tools that go into the fire won't stay on. Constantly have to fish the ends out of the fire. If you need to really use these for a real no s*** fire.. you're out of luck. I spent more time frustrated with these than I like to remember. I found a heavy duty vintage set on a yard sale site for the same price... you get what you pay for is right... | 2% Ugh, terrible "tools" January 19, 2015 KEEP LOOKING! These tools are seriously flimsy, cheap knock offs of tools. The welds started breaking on them almost immediately. I don't ask that much of tools when I say they need to be sturdy, do I? I buy a hammer or a wrench, I expect it to outlast me... Now these are WROUGHT IRON tools.... I REALLY expect them to last. I am very disappoint. Too short, broom real bad February 3, 2014 The length of these things are way too short, but then again that's on me, I should have measured, I've never owned a fire place so really not sure what I would be measuring. But the broom portion of this 5 pc wrought iron fire set is by no fault of mine, The more I try and use it the worse off it becomes. So now I'm down to a kitchen broom.I personally would not purchase this item again. Thanks |
