Best small portable work-light I've ever owned
March 31, 2017
Great work light, be careful not to look right into it though since it does put out 2000 lumens ("don't stare straight at the sun, you'll go blind!"). Great illumination, sturdy construction, adjustable base, good solid feel. We have a few of these for work to illuminate work-spaces for taking high speed video, knew I had to buy one for myself. These used to go for about $60 on Amazon, found it now for around $38, even at $60 it's worth purchasing!!
Excellent Tool
October 22, 2016
Super efficiant, Bad Ass worklight!! Lightweight, durable, and super bright (2000 lumens), yet cool to the touch due to the light emitting diodes (LED). Very "reliable" crisp/clean white light, with no worries on lamp breakage, or replacement. Works great on commercial jobsites, when the drywall is up, but the lighting circiut isn't hot yet. Excellent for wiring up panels, or switchgear, inside electrical rooms that typically have no window light. -it would also make a nice base camp light for various outdoor ventures, providing you have generator supplied power, (preferably Honda EU2000, "super quite" and light weight). Each Snap-on light will only draw 0.2 amps (125V X 0.2A = 25W), very efficiant, easy load. Just keep the light dry, it is not amphibious :). When outdoor ventures take place in higher latitude regions, (out of state hunting, ect.), keep in mind that this particular light is rated for 32 deg. fahrenheit and above. A very reliable name brand though . . . Snap-on. -I plan on purchasing 1 or 2 more :).
A winning purchase after doing hours of research! (Current as of May 2015).
May 20, 2015
This was a little bit more expensive than several of the no-name brands available on Amazon. If you do your homework and research the reviews, you'll realize that other models require dubious non-UL approved extra wiring that could be dangerous. I decided that I would rather have the peace of mind of not getting shocked with a properly grounded unit.I was also tempted to buy the re-chargeable varieties but noticed that the 500 lumens They Emit are only one quarter of the lighting offered by this unit (2000 lumens). If I was using A light for camping or fishing, I might have gone with the rechargeable unit, but those are not my needs. This unit was sufficiently bright without being overwhelming. It was easy to assemble and the parts are high-quality.Additionally, I received the product in short order because it was shipped from Tennessee and not from China. If I ever have problems with it, I can use the warranty and communicate with someone, and the state not very far away for me, which is a luxury that many Chinese units do not have. Good luck on returning a unit by paying for postage all the way to China. All the parts are from China for this unit, but the difference is that snap on is an American company. Buying something that uses parts manufactured in China is not necessarily a bad thing for any product; what matters is the quality of the parts American companies choose to put into their products and their local warranty coverage. This unit delivers on all counts and is well worth the money!
Perfect work light, no regrets!
May 18, 2015
This is a really great light. I installed two of these above my work table. They are extremely bright. Too bright to mount where the light would be pointed directly at you so I attached them to some shelving using a couple of conduit straps. Since my garage is painted white, I pointed the lights at the ceiling so that the light would reflect back throughout the garage. It's the same concept that was used with the old halogen floor lamps. The light is directed up and diffused throughout the room. It works great and two of these provides plenty of usable light without being blinded. By pointing the light at the ceiling you also eliminate the annoying "shadow man" that gets in your way while you're trying to work. I normally just operate one light but the second one comes in handy if I'm working on something detailed. Buy this light, no regrets. They are low amp, low voltage, run cool, and bright as h*ll. They are great for the home hobbyist that works in their garage.
I love anything white and bright
May 4, 2015
When it comes to lights, I love anything white and bright. Living in Seattle 10 years ago, dealing with drizzly winter meant adding ton of lights up just to feel less sluggish and keep my mood up during the day. Now that LED technology is very common and the prices are coming down, the 2,000 lumen work light for less than $30 was a bargain compared to other models that still used old halogens and drew more current & produced heat. The black base (attaches with two screws provided) is metal as well as the handle. The red frame is a hard plastic that feels and looks durable if in case the light is dropped. The cord isn't flimsy either so there was no worry there. Many reviewers mentioned of not staring at the light and they're right. DON'T stare into the lights as it is very blinding. It produces a very nice flood light enough to light up our small backyard and work on the cars.I ran this unit for over 30 minutes and the back side only got slightly warm. Not even enough to get a low grade burn. It's definitely much safer in that sense. You can definitely leave this on indoors and not worry about something catching on fire or your little ones accidentally touching the unit. Obviously you just don't want them to stare at the light either. Many uses for sure. It's compact enough for travel & can easily utilize small DC to AC converter if there isn't one in your car already. It can be used for photography although I would probably use more than one depending on what you're shooting.I also tried this with window tinting; it's good for flat area but rear windshield with 3rd brake light doesn't seem to light up the corners very well even at 20% tint. The size is also kind odd for any automotive tinting work so I would stick to a stick type for a light source.Overall I'm very happy with the unit. I'll be using this around the house for many projects to come!
Outstanding!!!
March 16, 2015
Not only does this light provide a lot of light without getting dangerously hot, it also produces is very even light (no hot spots like with the halogen lights I've used for several years). And It's energy efficient. And the color temperature of the light is good -- somewhere in the daylight region (not bluish like some LED lights). Because the lights/reflector housing isn't very heavy, the relatively small footprint of the legs makes the light very stable. The sealed rocker switch can be a little cumbersome sometimes. One minor change I've made however, is to a put rubber cane tips (aka chair leg feet) on the four feet. That keeps the light from sliding accidentally on it's hard plastic feet -- the 1" size fit perfectly over the plastic leg tips. I've been using it on a Formica counter-top.I liked the light so much that I bought a second -- but at Costco, for about $10 less. They probably won't carry it regularly. My old halogen lights will get sold at a garage sale this spring.

Great for any job that needs lots of light
September 15, 2017
This thing is great. Will give you major spotlight in any area. Garage work, outdoor work at night, etc., this thing is awesome. Highly recommend! Only negative thing I'd say is it gets reeeally hot, so def don't touch it after usage or don't let any kids around it.
Bright Inexpensive Light for Dark Places
September 7, 2016
These are bright. The price is phenomenal. Good Quality. The only complaint that I have is that the lights do not angle to shine down so they are straight out at eye level. We have made some modifications on this. We always tether the light to a tree or solid object so it doesn't accidentally tip over.
Super bright spotlight great for barns and garages
October 28, 2015
I’ve been using this in a horse barn for several years now. It has held up well even though its been knocked around. The initial bulbs that I received with the lamp lasted well but that may be different for other users looking at other reviews. The tripod is sturdy but just be careful not to over-tighten the collars as they can break. This lamp is very bright and puts out a heck of a lot of light. The glass lens covers do get very hot so the guards are essential. Make sure to keep the lenses away from flammables.Overall, for the price, it is a great value.Pros: Very bright DurableCons: Tripod collars easy to over-tighten
these lights are terrific! They are not the highest quality
September 19, 2015
I got these for additional lighting for an evening HOA Block Party event in my community, and honestly didn't expect a lot for the less-than-$36 price of the lights, but I was blown away! For the money, these lights are terrific! They are not the highest quality, of course - they are not costing over $100 each like so many of their competitors. For the money, these are very good quality lights and they were relatively easy to assemble and worked perfectly. The lights swivel left and right, up and down, and you can use them low or raise them up more than 5 feet. Not bad for $36 each! The instruction book almost requires a magnifying glass, but any experienced workshop person can figure out how to assemble them almost intuitively - it's not rocket science, but does require attention to small details. No major complaints thus far - I am a satisfied customer!
Just initial impression- Very good value for the money
April 14, 2015
Just initial impression- Very good value for the money! I would not call it Heavy Duty as a unit, but neither would flimsy be appropriate as a description. A nice middle between them, and more than expected for the price charged. With just basic skills, can be put together in 15 minutes. Instructions weren't great, but all one has to do is look at the box and follow the pictures. Puts out tremendous light and gets very Hot! I would recommend using with caution around children. This is a very under-priced item I think. Of course time will tell, however, how long it lasts...I would also recommend be very careful with the bulbs. They should not be touched with bare hands, as any oils etc., will degrade them. Possibly causing failure.Update: Now after a over a year of use, I can report it is still going strong with little, intermittent use; Perfect for my needs. If one is using their stand for work duty, with frequent adjustment needed, then I would recommend spending more for higher end unit. Ease of adjustment is not this ones strong suit.
A Skinny Jay Review!!!
May 29, 2014
I use this light outside in my painting studio so that I can paint at night. I am very happy with it and would recommend it for anyone who needs a strong and bright white utility light for working. Here are my observationsPROS:Easy to put together - it took my about 10 minutes, the instructions were clear and simple.Stable - the tripod base sits well even on the slightly uneven dirt area where I usually place it. The dogs have not knocked it over, and that says a lot because these two beasts love to knock things over and break them.Very Bright - the bulbs that it came with are a very strong and bright white light. No none needs to worry if they will give enough light to work at night. You could put one at each end of a soccer field at night and the kids could play safely with no problem I am sure.Less Shadow - Because there are two head spaced about 18" apart, I can stand in front of it and my shadow does not black out what I am working on. What I mean is, my shadow is more of a transparent gray color and I can still see what I am working on because light from at least one of the heads will come in from the side.Light weight - easy to move around, fold up, and store. The handle on top lets me move it around with one hand easily.Amazing price - self explanatory. I bought it for $39.00 about. Even for twice that price I would have been very very happy with the light.I bought a pack of these replacement bulbs. Haven't had to use one yet, but I am glad to have them.Designers Edge L-15 Work Light Replacement T-3 Bulbs with Hard Case, 500-Watt, 6-PackOBSERVATIONSHot - I noticed that the bulbs put out a lot of heat. Not a bad thing, just an observation. The lights to have a cage on them, so it would be hard to touch the hot part by accident. This is not a heavy duty piece of hardware is my guess. It is perfect for home projects and small workshops and weekend projects. Not something you could throw around and beat up. But for the price, it is excellent.

Great for illuminating dark areas
August 21, 2017
I'm remodeling some areas in my trailer. Sometimes at night it gets too dark to see. My uncle used to hold a flashlight when I was mudding and tapeing. No good, light was always wobbly and batteries died quick. Now, boom, place the light on the floor and Carl goes out to buy drinks and chicken chips. The walls gunna looked crooked anyhow in the morning but not because of a lack of light. I would recommend this Snap on portable light for inside projects only. My friend used it on his roof to light up his basketball yard and done got ruined.
Excellent LED work light
October 30, 2016
Solid little light, definitely bright, but very skeptical of the 2000 lumens advertised. Based on a 100 watt bulb incandescent i'd say this is closer to 1000-1500. Also the color rendering is fairly poor, which is fairly common for cheaper LEDs.Really can't go wrong with this light though, the other LED work light options don't compare. The no-heat this thing a real winner in attics. The price varies by a small amount here from $30-$45 I've noticed.
Snap-On Quality.....That Is Affordable!
May 16, 2016
Everyone who knows about automotive tools knows that Snap-On is - and always has been - the maker of the finest tools ever made for the industry. Any professional mechanic, specialist, or serious automotive collector that likes to tinker is as proud of their accumulation of Snap-On tools and boxes as they are about some of the fine machines they have used them on. I have Snap-On tools that I have had for over 40 years. The quality is unrivaled - as is the support for them offered by the manufacturer. Enough said about that. This light is amazing to me because it is a very nice, bright, light-weight LED work light ....with the Snap-on name and color - and it is relatively CHEAP! I know it sounds silly but the spotless reputation of Snap-On over the years has held the cost of ANYTHING with their name on it to be priced in the stratosphere. But this light is WELL WORTH its price and it is a VERY GOOD work light. It has a good length of power cord, it is light and easy to handle, it runs cool to the touch. The LEDs are VERY bright and create a powerful wide area of illumination. It is easy to grab and setup anywhere. I don't know - or care - where it was made. I didn't even try to find out. I only care about how good it works, how good it looks, and how long it lasts. So far - it's a winner.
Super bright, yet cool to the touch
March 11, 2016
Super bright, yet cool to the touch. Some customers report that it is cheaper at Costco. If I buy a second unit, I will check into that. The red plastic bezel that frames the light is solid and well made. The base does not wobble, and the handles that are used to secure the light at different angles are large and easy to grip. There is nothing wimpy about this light. I don't know how long it will last. I don't know how it will stand up to cold weather, but I think that I am going to be happy with it for a long time. I will update this review in the future if things change.
Very nice light with one potential drawback
October 20, 2015
The 30 year old, decrepit, flickering overhead light fixture in my hobby room finally died on me, and for various reasons, I am unable to have it replaced at this time. What's one to do in this situation? Buy a portable work light! This Snap On LED work light is just what I needed. It is light, easy to carry and has a nice little stand. It swivels up and down, allowing you to direct the light the way you need to. And best of all, it is very bright. I have the light pointed slightly upwards in my little 9x10 room and it fills the entire space with enough light to get done what I need to do. Yes, there may be some shadows cast and it doesn't hit light in every single area, but honestly that does not matter to me.The one thing to note, which may or may not be good depending on your situation, is that the light switch on the back is kind of hard to reach and covered with a protective cover, which can make it quite hard to switch on and off. I personally get stiff joints so this is a downside for me, but I do manage. Aside from that small quibble, I do very much like the light and easily recommend it to anyone looking for a convenient, portable light source.
Appears high quality despite not being US Made
June 25, 2015
Beats the snot out of the halogen variety that you could fry an egg on while running.Color temp very white 5000K. ~21.5 watts per Watts Up Pro meter versus ~100.5 watts for the halogen work light shown in the attached picture.

Super Bright and Flexible But Too Hot for Close Work
March 31, 2017
Very, very bright lights that have the option of being on the tripod stand or comes off and you can just have the two lights alone. The lights can easily be swiveled or adjusted up or down and have easy-to-use big, plastic screws to lock down. I use these to help light up rooms as I'm painting the interior of my house. Why not 5 stars? A couple of reasons#1) These lights get HOT and I''m talking dang HOT! So if you need lights where you need to be close to them (like inside a car engine area) I'd suggest buying LEDs instead.#2) A very, very short power cord.
Great product
January 4, 2017
Awesome product. I needed to light the back end of my home during parties or other events and it did just that. Nice and bright. The stand adjust in height and each light can be swiveled in different direction or upwards. But cannot be tilted down. The only bad thing I'd say if you have kids be careful. Lights get very hot very quick. DO NOT TOUCH BULB WITH HANDS EVER! They're just like head lights on a car the oil from your fingers will break them immediately. But other then that awesome
all in all a good light for the price
December 28, 2016
Heads do not rotate down completely, a little tab on the frame prevents that. It can be bent in to overcome that, I'm sure its there for a reason but it doesn't work for my use, all in all a good light for the price.

July 21, 2016
I've ordered three of these lights for backyard parties. Our backyard is huge and gets really dark at night, this was the perfect solution. Helps light up the yard and let the party continue. We have also used it in the garage for shop work, and it didn't let us down. The only downside is that the bulb does go out quickly, which I was not expecting. Maybe it's just how these lights work, but even my husband was shocked at how quickly the bulb died and he's had other lights like this.
Works great, instructions aren't clear
October 24, 2015
These work lights are great for the price and very bright; they light up the whole garage which is perfect for working on and detailing the cars. I haven't used them too much yet, but haven't had any issues with busted glass or burst bulbs. They get hot but that's to be expected as they're halogen bulbs. On a flat surface it's sturdy on the tripod legs.It loses a star because the instructions for piecing them together aren't too clear...I ended up just looking at the picture on the box to figure out what goes where.
A Fine Addition to the Garage
January 2, 2014
My husband needed extra light in the garage other than the overhead fluorescent hanging lights. He also had a handheld light, similar to each of the work lights attached to this unit. But he always had to move it around, or hold it up with one hand and its use was limited. He set this up easily in a short period of time. I came out to the garage and he demonstrated how flexible it was, and shined the lights in various positions and was very pleased with it. It seems quite stable in spite of the fact that the lights are heavy and sturdy. I know some of the reviews commented on the fact that halogen lights put out a lot of heat, but in this case it's advantageous as our garage is well insulated but not heated. In the summer he gets enough light just from opening the garage door. He's used the light already for two little projects. (Which works for me!)

Nice functional light
August 25, 2017
Nice functional light, BUT, the on/off switch is buried and difficult to use. Why do a lot of manufactures try to copy Apple and get over the top sleek. Put that sucker up, out and prominent. This is merely a light. It doesn't need digital designing.
Nice and bright without much heat
May 31, 2017
I was thrilled at first. Nice and bright without much heat. Now it keeps blinking on and off. I've tried plugging it into different outlets....same problem. I bought this Feb 2015 it's May 2017 as I write this. I use this off and on, what I would call moderate use.
Puts out great light and minimal heat compared to normal filament light
January 8, 2017
Came missing the nut and lock washer used to connect the light to the base. Puts out great light and minimal heat compared to normal filament light. Better quality construction than I expected.
expectations higher, its just OK for me.
December 27, 2016
Guess my expectations where higher given the reviews. It is just OK for me. heavy duty cord, bright (harsh light), too harsh for any type of photographic bounce lighting. I'll probably use my portable light more often than this one. I was hoping it would seem brighter and that it might have other uses than just a direct work light. Not as easy to adjust as other competing lights and no other features like brightness control.
Unfortunately I could not find any better alternative work light
October 19, 2016
This is the second Snap on LED work light that I bought. The first one last only about 9 months with only a few times of uses. Unfortunately I could not find any better alternative work light. That is why I bought this again but I don't expect it to last long.
I have a lot of snap on tools and love them. This light is very bright
October 20, 2015
I have a lot of snap on tools and love them. This light is very bright, but what was disappointing is its made in China. Also when using in the engine compartment its not ver versatile. Not a lot of positions available for the light to shine. Kind of a pain in the ass unless you are going to be using underneath you car, or something similar.

Decent light but one bulb came broken/nonfunctional
November 1, 2017
We ordered these to light up our driveway on Halloween. The package arrived in a timely manner and the box had some minor damage to it but the lights appeared undamaged. One of the bulbs did not work when we tried it out. We tested the one working light bulb on both sides and it worked fine so one bulb was bad.It only took about 10 minutes to put together and provided great light for the driveway. For this price compared to some sold at hardware stores, it was unbeatable. Only wished that both bulbs that came with it worked.
Not happy with that
June 19, 2017
Bulbs burnt out within a month. We haven't replaced them yet, but only used a few times. Not happy with that. Otherwise a good lamp, maybe but some spare bulbs before purchasing
I'm not completely happy
November 12, 2016
The light looks good haven't used it yet but unfortunately when I was putting it together the telescopic stand had a broken lag support. I'm pretty sure that it had to be from the factory because the box that it came in was fine and the box that Amazon put it in is in good shape to. I'd send it back if I didn't really need it right now. Hopefully everything else works OK. I'll update this after I get a chance to try it out

this is a replacement order. the first order came with a hole in the box, one light bulb not working, and a broken plastic base on the tripod. the replacement order is also missing one screw that holds the light to the base. got a replacement screw from the hardware store since it will be used within a couple of days and i dont have time to get another replacement. the replacement tested good, but quality control is not doing their job right.

What Light? Dim Dim Dim.
May 28, 2014
These are dim and they arrived with missing parts. I took the advice of other reviewers and installed 150 watt quartz halogen bulbs. The design of the unit prevents it from illuminating an area to what is should be able to do. I would not buy these again, a really bad design!!!UPDATE: 06/15/2014It has been 3 full weeks since I started using these. I leave these lights on for a total of 7 hours continuously every night. I have the 150 watt bulbs installed, and the fixtures work without massive heating up, in terms of electrical components. They are used to light the front yard of my house because I live in a deadly area of Detroit. Worse thing is, the stinking state government of michigan appointed a new lighting commission to oversee the Detroit Mi failed bankruptcy. To my total surprise, they took a street light from area in front of my house, that has been there for 60 years. Now I am afraid because I can't see a thing in front of my home. These fixtures help some, but they don't replace a street light!

I don't care fo rit that much.
March 13, 2017
I don't care for it that much, but it's light and better than darkness. It's bright, but is cumbersome to use. It really needs a large hook on the back so you can hang it, and something on the back to adjust the angle. Even magnets on the back would be cool. All the light is very focused is is not full spread. The cord is too thick and stiff for a low watt unit. When you to deploy it or put it away, you'll notice the cord issue.Compared to the old days with the halogen bulbs that you can cook bacon on, it's much better. It just lacks any foresight into innovation such as a cord wrap system so it can be stored easy. And it wasn't bad enough to return it for a refund.
Doesn't last.
December 26, 2015
I purchased this as a gift to my best friend. He loved it. It was very bright and stayed cool. Unfortunately, it completely stopped working after only three months.
If it breaks, you can't get warranty service.
October 26, 2015
I bought two of these lights, and they worked great for a while. Good amount of light, small size, low heat, good price. Then one of them stopped working. I contacted Snap-on to get warranty service, and was told "We do not warranty items purchased off of Amazon. Warranties are only good to the original purchaser who purchased the item through Snap-on direct."Is that a thing? I didn't even know that was a thing.I'm very unimpressed with Snap-on as a company for having this policy. I suppose they might have their reasons, maybe they don't typically work with distributors/retailers and their products being sold here are sold by random people?

Bought this in March 2015. Probably lasted a week before it started flickering. Would have to bang on it a few times to get it lit again. I gave it two stars because when it stays on, it works great to light up my garage. But my recommendation is to find another one and not buy this item until the quality control issues are fixed.

Its a very nice light set
January 25, 2016
After about 20-25 hours of use, one of the light boxes have stopped working and the other light has burned out. They do give an extra bulb, so I can replace it, but I'm thinking it will burn out just as quickly and I'll only have one light anyway. Its a very nice light set, but I think I'll end up spending the extra cash and get an LED set. I'll most likely reuse/repurpose the stand.
Connector melted when the light burned out.
January 27, 2014
I know the oil from your fingers can cause lights like this to burn out easily, so I was extra careful to make sure I didn't touch anything directly. I bought this light 6 months ago, and one of the lights just burned out. It melted the connection point for the light when it did, and it's dead in the water now. I tried filing the connection down, but that didn't work either. I haven't tried an LED light yet, but that's what I'll be buying this time.Side note: This is my second set of these lights, and both were ruined in the same way. I don't remember the brand of the first set though.

This item pops up when searching Amazon for rechargeable LED work lights and it is NOT rechargeable. AC only.
poorly thought out design

Not a fan of this portable work light. I read the reviews that talked about how narrowly focused it is and figured it was an exaggeration. Those comments were entirely accurate. The shame of it is that the light is first rate aside from that, so I will keep it and work around the issue, but to me, why would it be designed to be blinding this way and force you to bounce the light off the ceiling -- who would want to do that?

Avoid, they just stop working and there is no warranty
works fine for almost a year

works fine for almost a year, then starts blinking. Spending $50 and have it go bad within a year, never buying again. If you must buy, Costco has this for $30.
Disaster

Very bright, light weight and cool to the touch after using all day. Exactly what I was looking for.Update: After 2 months of very light occasional use, the light died. As noted in other reviews, Snap On will not honor any warranty when the light is purchased through an Amazon seller. Seller, JessieLep would not provide any assistance except to provide Snap On's phone number. Very disappointing. I would not take a chance on this light.

Maybe I am unlucky. Mine was dead after 3 month usage. I am trying to find out how to contact this company for exchange or repair.

Faulty and unsafe.

First the bulb burned out after two hours... OK, bad bulb, it happens. But then, later I look and the glass has shattered on the lamp with the good build, for no reason I can surmise. Lamps was never hit or anything, glass just shattered, glass all over the floor. What a pain.

Poorly made. The thumb screws holding the lamp together came stripped. Had to force it open with vice grips.

One of them blew out and shattered the glass so close to my face while I was working on my car. I did not touch it or sprayed anything near it or did anything to prove the darn thing. I must be very lucky I did not lose an eye or got some face damage. Small pieces flew all over the place. Straight to the garbage.

Very poorly manufactured Two key components (Tripod mounting bracket and Handle mounting flange) out of plumb by approx. 10-15 degrees, precluding correct mounting. This quality is what I would expect from Harbor Freight, who happens to offer a similar product for $35.I'll give this one star because both lights actually did light up.

This light is awful... After about 3 weeks of use the tripod started to fall apart. About a week after that, I was replacing bulbs every week. About a month after that the entire tripod broke and it went flying in the dumpster. I treat my tools very well and still this thing just fell apart. I tried to contact the manufacturer for spare parts and that got no response. It's a sad day when you can't find a good work light that will last more than a few months. Switching to LED lights!
If you want to buy something better in less then 6 months don't purchase these lights.
July 13, 2015
Purchased these lights in February 2015, buy July 2015 with minimal use they shorted out. Purchased 3 sets, they blew out the bulbs during this time, by July didn't work. They say you get what you pay for, it is true on these lights. Don't buy them unless you want to purchase something better in less then 6 months with minimal use. Save your money and get something better, learned this lesson the hard way.
