Side by Side Comparison of: JOYO vs Planet Waves vs Donner

This baby had been on my Amazon wish list for a long time before I decided to gamble on one. For one, I didn't believe it could deliver, and two, I recently got to try a Fulltone Fulldrive 2 so I knew it could deliver (it's still on my wish list) but couldn't part with the $118 right now (even though I think that is a very reasonable price). I decided that at $38, even if the Joyo didn't deliver it wouldn't break the bank and somehow I'd get used to the color. This pedal has received lots of reviews that run the range from God send to trash. I feel compelled to write to voice my opinion, and it's only an opinion which I hope others may find useful, in contrast to some of the more critical reviews which are short on detail and long on condemnation, intimating that everyone will have the exact same experience with this pedal. I believe some context is very important. Yes, if you plug your Mexican made Stat into a 15W Mustang amp you probably won't be overwhelmed with the results. My setup is a Gibson Custom Shop 1959 Les Paul reissue thru either a Rivera or Mesa/Boogie amp. I am an obsessive compulsive tone freak and have accumulated as many stomp boxes along the way as the next person who reads this. And with my FT OCD pedal if I spend a lot of time tweaking it sometimes I can get pretty close to the coveted '60s Brit sound. That is the sound I'm usually after. The OCD is a pretty flexible pedal. The Joyo Brit box may not be as flexible but I can dial in that '60's Brit (will go so far as to say Marshall) sound right out of the box, with just a little fine tuning of the 3-band EQ. It's got that darker, thicker, what I call "round" sound, what Clapton called his "woman" tone (am still wondering why he called it that) or for more modern ears, the Warren Haynes with Allman Bros. tone, spot on. It even reproduces the minor degree of compression characteristic of Marshalls and I usually don't like to add compression. In sum, the distance from my basic setup to vintage Brit is not a great stretch. I next substituted in a Gibson Lucille (think ES-355) and voi-la, there's the Clapton "Crossroads" tone. The physical construction of this box, as others have commented, is totally top notch, as finely finished as my OCD which I thought was put together pretty well for $150. Last experiment, moved guitar and pedal to a Fender Blues Jr. This is the old kind with only one channel that stays pretty clean even when you crank it. Hugely different results here. My personal conclusion is that you'll get more out of this box if it's plugged into an amp that already provides pretty good natural break up. That doesn't mean that if you use this pedal in tandem with a solid state amp and a telecaster and you don't sound like Jimi Hendrix the box is a piece of crap. My only categorical criticism is, what are you doing playing with a solid state amp?

If you've done your research then I'm not going to say anything you haven't heard. I've been using this thing for a minute now and love the results. It does exactly what all the video/written reviews say it does - create the illusion you're using an old Marshall. I prefer to use it as my clean tone a la Bluesbreaker and plan on running it direct into the board (although you do not need to). If you're looking for some Marshall Flavor in your sound or want to go sans amp, you cannot get a better return for your dollar.

My 3rd Joyo Pedal, I'm falling in love with that company, solid great sounding pedals for a fraction of other brands.Be advised, the effect of this pedal is very subtle... I use it with my mustang V, which already models other amps, this pedal just makes it sound way more realistic and adds some dynamics to your playing. Totally worth it for anybody that wants to improve their tone... You have to have a good ear though.I've read some reviews of people hooking this pedal before their amp input... since this pedal has it's own pre amp, this way of hooking it up will produce some noise. Connect it to your FX send return.I also own the American sound .... both great... depending on my mood I play them both equally... You just can't go wrong with Joyo

TLDR: much higher quality than price tag indicates. Extremely reliable (gigged). Not that versitile, but it gets the point across. $20 well spent.Listen...It's JOYO. You get WAYYYY more than you pay for (I mean they're only like $20) but it's not a boutique quality pedal. I gigged whis this bad boy for a couple months. It never once gave me any issues whatsoever. They're built to last.As the sound:It gets the point across - that you're using a trem. I used it for songs like "No headlight" in my coverband. It's not like crazy flexible or versatile, but again, it gets the point across. Highly recommended as an intro to tremolo or if you, like me, play live covers in front of a bunch of drunk college kids.I can't bash on JOYO. They make their pedals with heavy duty construction and they've never failed me. They get the point across, and the price is always right.

This is great sounding at a great price! Is it perfect? No, but it is no less perfect than something costing a lot more and not sounding as good as this pedal. I read one review in which the guy was not satisfied because he said it sounded like "80's glam rock." I totally disagree. If you can play and have a decent amp - you can get a variety of great sounds out of this little box. It seems like so many players like a fuzzy, buzzy type overdrive sound. I prefer a thicker creamy sound and you can dial that up with this pedal. For a mere $35, I was willing to roll the dice - I found a diamond in the rough.

I purchased this pedal and the new Carl Martin AC-Tone single (street price at 4 1/2 times the Joyo). My dilemma was between these two but even though I had just ordered the Joyo, I wound up scoring a new CM AC-Tone single for about $70 under the street price so I knew that I could recoup my money if needed. I now had both to be able to compare and I figured that I would just sell off the one I didn't like. I don't need to write a long side-by-side comparison to tell you that you won't go wrong buying the JOYO Actone even if you are a 'tone snob' like me. I will pay anything for the sound I'm after so money was not my priority here. I can tell you that the Joyo will give that great Vox Beatle-ish, chimy clean tone (think "I feel fine"), slightly more dirty "Day Tripper" tone, all the way to full on Class A saturation. The tone is REAL, the pedal has a warm clarity, the range of control is exceptional. I'll be keeping them both for a while because they are both great but are different enough to warrant the inventory.To me, the most notable differences between the pedals besides physical size is that the CM is a little more naturally compressed with a little bit more sag to the feel. The CM does not clean up like the Joyo so if you are wanting the chimey tones I spoke about above, then the Joyo is the way to go. However, the Joyo will dirty up and compress also. As an analogy, if I relate them regarding feel to my Fender Twin and my Mesa Road King combo, I'd say the Joyo 'feels' more like the Twin and the CM more like the Mesa.My message is this... If you are wanting a slightly or even heavy driven Vox tone for blues or rock, both will do the job and make you smile. If it's important to also get that semi-clean Vox 'Chimey' tone (see examples above) then the Joyo Actone is what you want - even if you could get the CM AC-Tone for the same price as the Joyo. I was so impressed with this pedal that I ordered the American. It also sounds great and if you want the 'Tweed' sound I'd highly recommend it also. At any price, the Joyo Actone is a bargain!

These work perfect for me. They fit easily in to my 1/4 inputs, unlike others have mentioned. These probably would not do if you need your pedals real close together. But in my case I built my own pedal board, and I like the distance between the pedals. These cables also controlled some of the noise I was getting from my other cables. I generally am not finicky about these type products. I just know real expensive cables don't make a whole lot of difference to me. But I have come across some horrible cheap ones.

Impulse buy while ordering a pedal: these are the NICEST cables I've seen in a long time! They black rubber coating on them is very soft, they're not hard, cheap plastic.Very good!

Hooks up easilly with my pedals and amp and is pretty cheap. In terms of cables you really do not need any special kind and so this was perfect for me.

Nice little set of 3 patch cables. Really like the 90 degree ends so the pedals can sit closer together.

i got two packs of these and all cables work just fine. I don't have any problems with them like some other reviewers had. After reading some of those reviews I was expecting I might have to return a few cables that might not be working and that's why i got a double pack so I would be left with some working ones. But I'm glad that all are fine and I'm already using all 6 of them in my pedal chain. They are nice quiet, look great and feel sturdy enough to last for a while. I will definitely buy more of these once I expand my pedal board again and i highly recommend these.

I really like this little pedal. I tried it at my band's rehearsal and it sounded great. I've been playing guitar for 50 years and very familiar with all sorts of equipment. I was concerned about the toughness of the pedal and if it added any line noise when it was in bypass mode. I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the pedal at the price point. It will have to be seen if it holds up to the rigors of regular gigs. I couldn't detect any substantial change to line noise after I added the pedal. If you're looking for a quality pedal at a low price and want the old style tremolo sound I would recommend this product.

It's a good OD pedal.I set it up with OD at zero and level at 9. The boost certainly did an excellent job of pushing my amp into some thick overdrive. It doesn't take much from the OD knob to get the breakup you want. Using it past 6 or 7 would suit some, but it gets a little fuzzy for anything I'll need.Pushing the level knob up to 9 did create some noise when the pedal was engaged, but it was less than I expected. Bringing it back down to 6 negated much of that anyway.Pulling back on the level to 6 and increasing the OD to 3 seems like the right spot...for me. It gives me just enough boost and added overdrive to get the hard rock that I like. Of course, we all want something different, and your settings will be different.But the pedal has a wide enough range in each knob that you should be able to get what you want. It's not a distortion pedal, but it does get pretty aggressive. Not sure how it will sound as a standalone gain tool for a solid state amp, but it certainly does an excellent job of driving tubes.The paint job...that's my one dislike. Not that it matters to me all that much, but I think it can affect expectations of people considering it. It LOOKS like a heavy distortion pedal. But it's not.As for hints...I've seen a review from three years ago where the switch wasn't activating, and the red light was staying on. I bought mine "used" through Amazon. When I got it, it was doing the same thing. Maybe it's the same pedal, but I doubt it. All that needed to be done was to tighten the nut on the switch. It was a little loose and was allowing the switch to sag into the pedal. Tightened it up and all was well.As for other complaints about definition and clarity in chords...I can't speak for them, and they may have different ears than mine. For me, everything sounded very clear and defined. It's always possible that tweaking settings between the guitar, amp and pedal can make some difference there. It's also possible that this pedal is being compared to a considerably higher end option. I don't know other than to say that all situations are different.Bottom line is that there seems to be widespread love for this pedal, and the price point is amazing. I'd take this easily over the Boss Super Overdrive, Bad Monkey, Screamin' Blues and many others in its price range. To be honest, for me personally and what I like to hear...ill take it over a TubeScreamer too.

I needed something to take my rock amplifier into metal territory. The first thing I tried was an MXR Prime Distortion, but it didn't have enough oomph. The next thing I tried was the MXR Fullbore Metal, and that was good, but I felt like it took complete control of my tone. I lost the sound of my amp. It was also had a high end that was difficult to tame.So I thought I'd try an OD pedal instead. I don't dig Tube Screamers, and all the reviews said this was an OCD clone. I don't actually know - I've never played an OCD pedal. Too rich for my blood. I tried this one because it was cheap and true bypass.Well, the tone is perfect. Combined with my amp's tone, it's enough to push my tone from hard rock into metal, but without losing the core elements of my tone that are so important to me. I don't use it for solos or boosting or any of that. I use it strictly to thicken up my rhythm tone for my heaviest songs. It's perfect for that. In fact, I'm surprised that an overdrive pedal - one that sounds pretty "overdrivey" when the amp is clean - has the capability of taking me into metal territory. But this does the trick. Saved me from having to get a new amplifier.Truth be told, it is a little noisier than I expected. It is probably less noisy when the amp's gain is lower, so I'll assume most of the noise is due to my own rig's settings. I can live with the noise. When the whole band is playing, you don't notice it.Overall, just a great overdrive. Not too trebly, not too gainy, not thin. Worth twice what I paid for it. Well done, Joyo.

This pedal I find pretty darn good. I use it with gain at 12 o clock or less. It really cuts through the mix for me. It can go from mild to bombastic, and that was nice for my new board build that is only sporting two od/dist pedals. I like setting it for crunch rhythm than drive it with my joyo vintage overdrive pedal for soloing. Those two pedals works nicely together. Simple, tough design, good tone, great price! Time will tell how it lasts? Buy it through the Amazon vendor cheaperpedals.com. They test before shipping which is nice! Most the time their price is cheaper at Amazon than their own site. I've called them for questions, got a human and some good advice as well. Don't get them shipped from China, too long and you don't really save more than 2-5 bucks. I love all my joyos, biyangs and donners. Got a moen shaky jimi gen. 3 on the way, that one was a whopping 63 bucks, lol ,the gem of my board hopefully! I currently have 6 joyos, 2 biyangs, 1 donnor and a moen on the way. Yes I support the no tone snobbery way, but firmly support good tone!

The joyo phase pedal is my third joyo and I do like it. I used to have a mxr phase 100 and yes the parameters on that baby were nice but it broke and I'm broke so I tryed this puppy. I think the joyo is pretty nice and am getting some nice Leslie like tones, gilmourish tones and Hendrix trower tones. I find it to have the perfect amount of swosh and depth for my tastes. I like it best clean or overdriven, not so much with my higher gain pedals. I played with the order in which I lined them up and ended up after my overdrives and distortions. My pedal board is oddball because I use a multi effect unit and pedals together but I get some decent tones so there you have it. I don't find joyo pedals to be overly noisey, except the high gain ones like pocketmetal which is a killer pedal. I run all pedals on a 9v adaptor and after adding three joyos there is no noise increase and really once the bands going what is a little noise, I already have the issue of tube amps and single coils so really it's pretty much nothing over those. I am totally phased by this puppy and hope it lasts awhile, at thirty bucks hard to miss. Boutique snobs will turn their nose but just punch em there because if they think they're above China I laugh, it's all coming from there with parts at the least and I don't care about anything but function and tone which I have. I'm looking to build an all joyo pedalboard soon because they have a vast line of nice knock offs so that's my take, I been at this game for thirty years and I love playing weekend rockstar at my local pubs and events and I never had a stranger come up and say anything other then I rocked, which is fun. Joyos a joy to me so far but time will tell if there worth the peanuts you get em for and I hope they don't increase as the word gets out . Get them from the Amazon vendor cheaperpedals.com. Mine had the same drop some have mentioned...and if there is enough room on the 10k trimmer I could see how an increase could be a problem on some too...try adjusting the 10k trimmer to compensate (NOT THE 20K trimmer...that is used to bias the optoisolator!)...if you cant get enough sweep on the trimmer, swap the internal 10k trimmer out with a 100k trimmer and set it to unity gain...you can also mount the replacement trimmer so you can access it by removing the bottom plate...SUPER easy mod that makes this a completely passable cheap copy of the F*****e Supa-Trem ;) you can also add a hard/soft switch with a little work.... Also worth noting that the amount of volume/boost changes with the intensity control...less intensity, less volume drop...I found that using a dB meter on my phone was the quickest way to set this...dial the Intensity control into a range you are likely to use the most and set it for that. Just ordered a backup. As cheap as it is even 2 are cheaper than buying what it was copied from....the jacks are super cheap as is the switch and the wiring is not so hot, but for the price you cant really beat it...

One had some kind of rubbery stuff on it. Lucky I had some cleaner. Other wise it could have gummed up the fuz box plugs I put it on. Other then this minor annoyance they work fine.

Works great with my pedals, definitely don't shove in quite far enough to click-lock, but they shove in far enough to work. You could always trim a little plastic off the casing if you need a firmer connection. They work great, that's the important part.

I have had these cables on my board for several years now, so that speaks to the durability of them. The only reason they get 4 stars is because they are a little bulky.Yes, there are thinner cables out there but I bought these for the price. There is no signal loss with these and they are very rugged. If you have the space then get them!

I like the Planet Waves line of cables, a quality product with larger than average connector bodies. The beefy connector is easy to grab and is great for my guitar cables, but..... they don't work well with my pedal board, which has cut-outs in the foam that determine the spacing between the pedals The PW jumpers won't work if the input of one pedal lines up with the output of the pedal next to it, the cable ends are just too bulky for that. I had to use the (lesser quality, but smaller) jumpers that came with the board (a Behringer). They should work great on pedal boards that let you determine the spacing between pedals.

These cables are quiet and work great but the connector plugs are very large and take up too much space on a tight board.On the pro side these cables are 6" from plug to plug not jack to jack so they're LONGER than some other 6" cables.

I bought a bunch of these when I started building my pedal board.They're very inexpensive, but seemingly quite high quality.Tons of bang for your buck.Seemingly no tone loss, no added noise, and no coloration.The right angle ends are a little big and bulky, they may not do so well on a tight and jam packed board.But for average boards they work great!I gig and record with these. Great product!Only negative check b/c the ends are too bulky.

IF you want something cheap to try and do a tremolo this is it. However, due to it's limited control dials I found it to be a little rough to really dial in a good trem sound. BUT it can be good for slight trem/delay sound. More of an accent into your sound or tone. BUT I don't think it's good for an actual tremolo pedal.

I really wanted to like this but I couldn't get a good sound out of it. I was hoping for a tubescreamer like tone with more fuzz but instead it was a very harsh Marshall type of tone. I also have an old Jeckyl and Hyde pedal and this is a lot like the fuzz on that which I also don't like. ( I do love the overdrive on that though) If that kind of tone works for you then this pedal may be fine. It is very solid, seems like it will last, don't love the scary paint job. It is going back to Amazon for me.

Very cool tremolo in front of pedal chain -- if cranked, it makes everything shutter in a cool rhythmic wayUPDATE: just got an actual tremelo pedal (supa-trem 2) that costs five times more than this and blows it away by a factor of at least 10. This is a fun pedal with a subtle tremelo effect compared to better pedals that have so much more power and range but also improve tone. A good starter trem I guess, but can't compare to the real deal, which makes you fall of your knees and see higher powers of shimmery, throbby sound.

Pros:-Heavy duty construction-Included 9v-Decent looksCons:-Not true bypass. I made it self oscillate then turned off the pedal, the oscillation continued however normal trails stopped. The tone of this oscillation was manipulatable by the knobs while the pedal was "bypassed". Turning the pedal back on returned it to full oscillation.-Not a digital sounding delay. Digital delays are generally perfect copies at different parameters. This pedal decays significantly from the first repeat in a not particularly musical way.-Limited parameters: Self oscillation occurs quickly making stacking up delay and making big walls of sound impossible.Verdict:-If you want a cheap delay to fatten up some lead work this is about your cheapest option. If you want to use this for any other typical delay application, forget it.

Honestly, the tone is OK, but this pedal is NOISY! With the pedal volume set so that it matches your volume when you play clean, whether the drive is set low or high, you'll hear hiss through your amp when you're not playing if this pedal is on. The only way I've found this pedal to be acceptable on stage is with a gate after it. That's what you get when you buy a Chinese knock-off for $30.That being said, when you play through it, the tone isn't that bad. Very much a crunch tone, no matter where you set the drive knob. Maybe a little "papery" sounding. I find it useful for solos, or for the occasional over-the-top heavier rock part. I can see where it sounds like a Tube Screamer. If you're a pro, I'd skip this and go for a real one (but if you're a pro, you probably knew that anyway). Otherwise, if you're just gigging around town and need some nasty crunch (and you have a gate), this might be a good way to get there and save a few bucks.

I got this pedal because I needed a tremelo and didn't want to spend a bunch of money.This get's the job done just fine, but there are some drawbacks.Pros:- cheap- cool dog graphic- true bypass (why one might select it over a boss)- very smooth sine like shape to the effect (maybe you don't want this, I like it)Cons:- Only two controls, I wish there were some more shaping options (tone and shape would be cool)- When you turn this effect on, it boosts your signal noticeably. Other Joyo reviews mention this too and it can be a HUGE PROBLEM especially for recording.

They are working patch cables, but they aren't as snug as some of my other cables. They slip out easily from a few of my pedals. I recommend the low-profile right angle cables. You can get your pedals closer together and they go further into the jacks.

at least for me they are borderline useable as they are not long enough need another 4" on thier standard cause my pedals are almost stackled on top of one another

I originally bought these before upgrading to some George L cables. These are good for someone just starting out with their pedalboard or someone trying to keep costs down. They stick out quite a bit, so there becomes less room on your board for pedals. They're also not nearly as good as the George L's are for tone, but you get what you pay for.

Meh. No clue why they have 5 stars. its not that great.

These cables work and seem well built, but after spending some time with them I find that the large heads often get in the way on my rather cramped pedalboard. If pedalboard space is a concern for you, you may want to look at the Hosa patch cables or other more low-profile options. If you've got plenty of room to spare, or it just isn't a concern, these are fine audio cables and reasonably priced.

These were a good price for 3 cables, and they do seem good quality. The 3 star rating is due to how unnecessarily BULKY the 90 degree plug is. Its impossible to get my pedals snug against one another and tuck the patch cables between due to. I have ended up only using ONE of the three, and trimmed some of the rubber off the end of one so it can bend better, so it can make a tight right angle out from my volume pedal. I don't reccomend this though, as it is obvious I weakened it. I will be buying a kit to make a couple patch cables myself from Lava Cable or George L; pricier but so handy when you have a tight (full) pedal board like I do.

Sounded GREAT until it stopped working within a month of very light bedroom use. Their was an intermittent problem the footswitch. When pressing the footswitch on the red "on" light would come on, but the effect wouldn't actually turn on. It also made a short but noticeable static noise before returning to the unaffected clean signal. Luckily I was able to return it. This is my second Joyo pedal, the other one (AC sound) still works great after a couple of months of steady use. I'm on the fence about this company overall, but I have to say I'm fairly certain I'll buy more of their products due to the price, and the fact that they sound great when they function properly.

This (vintage OD) is my second Joyo purchase. I also have the Hot Plexi. Once again, I am not blown away. The Vintage OD has a very narrow window for sound options...and it's not a pleasant window to my ears. Perhaps I'm more of a distortion pedal kind of guy as opposed to an overdrive person. The looks, price, and packaging make Joyo attractive...but I just haven't had that "a-ha moment" with them yet. I'm not giving up. I still want to try the US Dream and the Ultimate Drive (fingers crossed).

Just received this pedal the other day and it had the sound I needed. However, after my second time plugging in it sounded like the sound was fading away. At first I thought it was my plug in cords since they were getting up there in age. I purchased new plug in cords and it still had the same problem. This pedal worked for one time for the first day of owning. The price really made me want to buy it and I guess you get what you pay for. I would hope if I were to get another It would work but I'm not taking the chance I'm going for a better quality pedal.

My complaints about this pedal are mechanical, the circuit itself SOUNDS fine, but the pedal enclosure absolutely sucks. It's got a mostly metal enclosure but the bottom plate is made of plastic and the battery cover falls off constantly. Also the input jack kept falling off the side of the pedal until I removed a thin washer that was between the metal enclosure and that allowed the jack to screw into the side of the pedal firmly. So for 35 dollars it was a learning experience, but I probably should have spent a bit more and bought a Boss pedal instead. At least with the Boss pedal I would know for sure that the thing would be roadworthy enough to keep on my pedalboard.

After considering many other options, I decided upon this pedal. Straight out of the box, it seemed to be of rugged construction. It includes a nine volt battery which was a nice touch. I plugged it in my rig, a Randall RX120RH, and nothing. I toyed around with the connection, trying several options, but no delay. So I'm returning the joyo.I give two stars for the construction in hopes that perhaps I just received a bad pedal. It's too bad too, because had it worked for me, I had plans to purchase a chorus pedal from the same brand.

I bought this with the idea I was getting a pedal that would give me usable Marshall amp sounds. After trying for a couple of hours, I find that it won't do that. I guess my combination of guitar and amplifier wasn't meant to be used with this pedal. The guy who mentioned in the reviews about the sound getting thinner as you turn up the voice control, he was spot on about that (very annoying effect). Nothing but praise goes to the supplier ( KDM Distributors) . They did a fine job getting the pedal to me across the country. But the pedal itself, not for me.

The cable material used is too thick and therefore not very flexible. Difficult to use but it shouldn't be difficult to manufacture a simple patch cable....!

The heads are too bulky for pedalboard applications and tend to come loose. Have had problems with reliability with these and other planet waves cables, although to their benefit they have replaced defective cables no questions asked.

Every Planet Waves cable I've had has become faulty at some point. Some the first week I get them and others after just a few months. Shorting out, noise/feedback, etc. Watch out, you get what you pay for with these!

Nice design, but does not work for me. From my street, I can see a small amount of radio/TV towers. In high gain situations, I could hear broadcasts of some sort in my amp. Bought something with metal housing, removed these from my signal path, and life got better.

I read the reviews and figured it'd be a good "bargain" to purchase the product. The product came as described, and it came in a timely manner in good packaging. However, after plugging it in to my pedals, one shorted out and refused to work. I tried another one, and it worked fine. I re-tested the first cable, it still didn't work. The third one doesn't even pick up the signal entirely, so I get a weak sound through my amplifier. Like I said, it's worth the bargain price, but you might as well pay a few extra bucks to get a single, top quality cord. Maybe I just got a bad batch. *shrug*

This thing sounded great while it lived. It died within 60 days of light use. Seriously....and my amazon return window just ended. Disappointing as I have the Ultimate Drive and that's been solid.

Not true bypass. Boosts signal even when switched off. Grounding issues, buzz. Hilariously bad drive/distortion. Somehow manages to filter pinch harmonics and decrease sustain, while accentuating the worst, nasal qualities of the guitar. In that sense, it is almost magically bad. I guess you take your chances with these knockoffs, especially once they realize they can rest on their laurels due to positive reviews.

For around 30 bucks you get an incredibly dynamic overdrive that organically reacts to you playing. It sounds great.Unfortunately after a year of light use (mounted on a pedal board which rarely leaves my studio and is treated gingerly) it stopped working.I have the Ultimate Drive as well which seems to be holding up. While great pedals at a very decent price I would not recommend them to anyone who depends on their gear professionally.

After 2 weeks, it arrived to Uruguay. Great! when trying it, it doesn't work. I also bought a Chorus, which works great. But this pedal seems to have a problem with the bypass or something. I connect the guitar to it appropriately but there's no sound at all, not clean, neither overdrived. nothing. The bypass button won't stay in it's position. Doesn't make the "click". The led is not turning on. I try to unscrew the back, but there's a broken screw, so can't open it. I can't give anything better than 1 star.UPDATE May 2017:Some time ago I repaired the pedal (a specialist did it), and after spending about 30 extra dolars the pedal worked. I must say, it does a great job to me. Sounds good.

This pedal provides bass, mid and treble controls, something I needed because my Bugera 5w tube amp only has a generic tone control. In addition, it provides what is called a voicing control, which just gives you some more tonal options, and a gain boost. This is a very useful pedal for me. As to providing you with the tone of an Vox AC30 amp, I can't speak to that. I've never used an AC30.Amended Review: I had to return the first pedal because it stopped working after a couple of months. But I liked the pedal so much, I received another. But this pedal has also quit working after just a few months, and it has not been used very much. I am extremely disappointed in Joyo's quality control and I cannot recommend their pedals.

Like others have indicated, the plugs are not snug with the jack. Also they do not handle any sort of gain, and the shielding is terrible. Any touch or tap of the cord is amplified by the pedals in the chain and heard through the amp.

Used for practice at home and church service. Angled plug failed on me today. I took a chance after years of rejecting molded style plugs because they can't be repaired. Junk, I'm back to generic cables that I can at lease resolder:

A number of other reviews state that these cables keep popping out of pedals. The reason is that these plugs are not sized right for standard 1/4" mono plugs to the point where the contact does not clip into the tip properly. (See the attached photos. Black cable is Planet Waves, while the other is your average 1/4" patch cable jack.) The molding around the plugs prevents them from pushing in far enough to clip properly. While a cable tester registers these as contacting properly, I don't like the idea of them not clipping into the tip and eventually pushing back the contact to the point where the jack needs to be replaced. They will also pop out just like other users have experienced. Therefore I won't be using these. It's too late to return them so unfortunately I've wasted my money. Hopefully you read this and don't make the same mistake.

These cables are terrible for a pedal board. The ends on them are absolutely huge. I couldn't fit my pedals anywhere near each other if I used these. I dumped these and switched to the Hosa Cables (flat heads), which are awesome.

I thought it was my jack for a while, then I noticed it wouldn't stay in any pedal. There is no "click" assuring that the cable is in place... and there's a reason for that, it isn't! Slips right out of every pedal I have. Not reliable.
