I think it's partly composed of Dark Matter cus it can't just be the litter that makes it THAT heavy
October 1, 2016
I know this stuff LOOKS like a cheap off-brand from the packaging, but long years of living my life as a miserable, lonely cat person with no romantic prospects has shown me that this stuff is amazing. It has the least dust of any litter I've used, it clumps like concrete, the litter pan remains fresher longer because when you scoop it you are getting more of the actual waste removed from the pan, none of the clumps has crumbled away to mix with the rest of the remaining litter, the clumps remain intact. Be advised, however, the 40 pound bag of this stuff weighs at least 63 pounds more than the 40 pound bag of Tidy Cat. It is the heaviest substance known to man.
Hands down the best pet related purchase I have ever made
September 6, 2016
Hands down the best pet related purchase I have ever made. For the first time in 10 years my house doesn't smell like cat poop.Update: still love, but beware if your cat's paw is wet the litter can form what I can only describe as concrete on their paw. You can imagine the fun we had soaking, chiseling, and cutting it off her hair for days.
The Absolute Best Cat Litter
August 28, 2016
This was the first cat litter I have ever purchased and the only cat litter I will ever purchase. I honestly thought there were better things out there but Dr. Elsey's Precious Cat litter is the right one for me, my lifestyle, and most importantly, my cat.So as I was getting things to make my house livable for my newly adopted cat, Cerulean, I was researching and trying to figure out what the best cat litter for him would be. I usually purchase things that are best sellers on Amazon so I went ahead and purchased this cat litter. I had no idea how cleaning a litter box, smelling it, and cleaning it would be like. It was hard for me to understand that this cat litter was the best for me. After about 7 months of using it, I tried different brands.I started with Arm and Hammer's Clump and Seal. It was so great at first! The smell was stronger and cleaner, it felt more easier to scoop, and it clumped pretty well. However, the pebbles grew an attraction to my cats fur. He doesn't roll in his litter so I know it wasn't his fault. He's not even a long haired cat. Cerulean is a Russian Blue mix. So I'd feel litter crumbs in the bed, and step on them on the floor throughout the house. I even have 3 separate mats that are supposed to make the litter fall off his paws as he walks out but the Arm and Hammer litter is so fine that it lingers on him.I gave that up and was recommended by my vet to purchase "World's Best Cat Litter." I thought I fell in love with it at first because it was so soft, lightweight, and had a silky smooth feeling as you scooped. But that stuff is actually pretty powdery. It left powdered marks on my sofa, I had to cover it with sheets until the litter finished. I also found that the clumps crumbled, even if I was being super gentle trying to scoop with the scooper. After those experiences, I realized how much I appreciated Dr. Elsey's Precious Cat litter. Even though it's heavy to carry and scoop, it molds and holds my cats urine and stool, it tames odors, doesn't leave powdered or dust marks, and it lasts me almost 2 months with my single cat. I live in a one bedroom 1 bath 550 sqft apartment. I keep the litter box and a litter genie under the sink which is in the hallway that separates the bedroom, bathroom, and living room. It's been very suitable for my living situation and my cat. Sometimes you don't know what you have until it's gone. Cerulean and I are glad to own this litter.
and I was concerned that my small apartment would smell like a litter box (as many do)
June 27, 2016
My cat Sasha has been using this litter exclusively for about a year and a half now and I have no plans to ever use another litter. It's my first time living on my own with a pet, and I was concerned that my small apartment would smell like a litter box (as many do), and that I'd have to constantly move her box in and out of the shower or the patio to avoid a mess. She did not have any problems adjusting to this from her old litter, which was different in every way.I use this in combination with my Litter Genie in the 1/2 bathroom which is right at my front door, and you wouldn't even know there was a litter box when you walked in. It's so clean that I don't even remove it when I have guests using that bathroom. It's also unscented, which is great and I'm sure is much better for a cat who is constantly cleaning her toes. The grains are very large so I only need to use one mat outside the box and the litter never gets tracked out of the bathroom. She still kicks it around sometimes, though!I always purchase the larger bag, which is 40 lbs, and it usually last me 1.5 to 2 months. I am on my 11th bag since February 2015. I only dispose of the used litter when I'm opening a new bag. It clumps so well that I haven't ever had the feeling that I needed to clean out the box, so I will continue to top it off when it gets low until my bag runs out. I scoop each morning, but only because I want Sasha to have room. I've waited two days before and there is still no smell.I only have one cat but I think that this litter would be great for multi-cat households. This is the first non-flushable litter that I've had and I was concerned that I'm too lazy for a non-flushable, but combined with the Litter Genie I spend about 20 seconds scooping each day, and another 10 minutes to clean out the box each time I buy a new bag. The hardest part is carrying the 40 lb bag from my front door to the bathroom, and the very heavy 2 weeks' worth of pee balls down to the outside dumpster. The first time I emptied the Litter Genie I was so amazed that I had to show everyone I knew! I've included that image as part of the review. The packaging is sometimes perfect and sometimes my box is falling apart as I drag it inside, but that honestly is most likely an issue with my post office. It ships quickly with Amazon Prime and the bag is heavy duty so even if the box is destroyed, I haven't had an issue with the litter spilling. One time my post office would not deliver it because they repeatedly stated they couldn't get in the building. I kept asking them to deliver it and they wouldn't, so eventually they shipped it back to Amazon and I received a full refund.
20 Cats Over 20 Years, 10 Cats Now and This is the Only One for Our Home!

COME ON!!! STAY IN STOCK ALREADY!!! I BOUGHT SOME CRAP CAT LITTER CAUSE YOU ARE ALWAYS GOING OUT OF STOCK ON AMAZON. I JUST FOUND YOU ON WAL MART SO AMAZON IS LOSING BUSINESS BECAUSE YOU PUT WAL MART FIRST. NO ONE COMPARES TO THIS CAT LITTER, SO FIGURE OUT YOUR DISTRIBUTION IF YOU CARE ABOUT US AND STAY IN STOCK ON AMAZON.Over 15 years using this for 20 cats, and I still can't find a better one anywhere! Until Precious Cat came to Amazon, it was pure MISERY going to PetSmart and buying 10-15 bags of the 40 lb. litter at a time. I had to beg my buddy to come over and get them from my car and carry them into the house. The day Dr. Elsey decided to come to Amazon AND offer Prime Members free shipping made my life SO MUCH easier!PetSmart was barely carrying it anymore, so I had to try other litters. None of them compared to the clumping power and lack of smell this amazing litter offers--not one. The fu fu smelling litters aren't always safe for cats with recurring urinary tract infections and stones, and none of them clumped like Precious Cat.I would say I tried the Cat Attract when this price went up to a ridiculous amount because they were probably short on supply. But with the 10 cats I have now (the others passed away mostly at 20 years old), they are all really great about using the litterbox. I found absolutely no difference and would not pay the higher price for Cat Attract.I even trained my two mini pins to go in the same boxes as my cats--the boy and girl--and they go in them all the time! I have 9 boxes, some of which are large clothing containers you can store clothes in with the lid. I took the lid off and cut out a large opening in the front for my larger cats. But I can't do without this litter and free shipping!!! You guys save me every day, and my cats are happy. I can't thank you enough!I've added a few pics of some of my "kids" so you can see they are pretty content and happy (spoiled) cats :) My two smaller min pins go in the litterboxes you can see in the last picture.
Add some activated carbon to this product and you've got a perfect cat litter
March 2, 2014
The problem: My cats have been using Fresh Step Extreme Odor Control Scoopable Cat Litter (scented or unscented) for a long, long, long time. The problem with that brand is the EXTREME dust problem that gets on everything inside the house due to the central air conditioning/heating system. And that problem has worsened over time as I have adopted more stray cats or cats that have lost their home. More cats using more cat litter boxes creates even more EXTREME dust problems. You can change out the central air filters all you want, but the dust is just too fine for the filters to catch all of that stuff. :(The solution: Precious Cat Ultra Premium Clumping Cat Litter has solved the dust problem! I started switching over some cat litter boxes to Precious Cat Ultra Premium Clumping Cat Litter in December 2013 without any of my cat family objecting to the new cat litter. The dust problem is disappearing as my inventory of the other brand of cat litter is depleted. I am EXTREMELY pleased, and I am sure the cats are happier not having to breath the dust from the other brand. :)I have read some reviews on Precious Cat Ultra Premium Clumping Cat Litter on this website that have suggested adding activated carbon to the cat litter to help with odor control. I second the suggestion, and have recently started adding a capful of Marineland Black Diamond Activated Carbon in the 40-ounce size container to a full bag of Precious Cat Ultra Premium Clumping Cat Litter. That seems to be about as much carbon that I see in the previous brand purchased, and the activated carbon is very effective in helping control slight odor over time that remains in the cat litter even after removal of clumped used litter. It's nice when you're searching around on Amazon.com to see if there is a solution to a problem one is having. Precious Cat Ultra Premium Clumping Cat Litter has solved an EXTREME dust problem in my house. Another of life's problems solved.

Don't Tie Them
December 30, 2016
I love the convenience of the Litter Genie. It makes digging through the treasure box a quick and painless chore. You can minimize bag waste by clamping the bag with a couple of 4 inch zip ties. It's really the best way to empty the pail since the odors stay locked in and you're less likely to contaminate the outside of the bag. Make sure you cinch them on tight. They're rated for 19 lbs and I've never had one break open on me. I store the zip ties on the bottom of the genie pail so they're always where I can find them.I've also read some complaints about smell. Just spray some Lysol around the rim and let the Lysol dry on the plastic. It should keep bacteria from breeding under the closed lid.
So much better than having a dirty trash can full of cat sh** sitting around!
December 13, 2016
I am stupid excited over this thing! lol. As the name implies, it's like a Diaper Genie, but for soiled cat litter! No more having to constantly walk to the community dumpster every time I scoop the litter box, because the choice was either that, or tie it up in a smaller trash bag and throw it in the kitchen trash can and have to smell it until the can was full enough to take out. It's just so much more convenient.I haven't personally had any problems with odor control using this, but if you do, a little sprinkle of baking soda in the bottom of the bag should take care of that.Initially I thought I wouldn't use the scoop that came with it because I expected it to be flimsy and honestly I really liked the scoop I already had, but the one that comes with it is actually really sturdy, easy to use, and is made to fit the opening of the can so no spills. I'm thinking now that I've used it, I will probably continue to use it after all.So all in all a great product and well worth the money. I highly recommend it. This thing has made cleaning out the litter box so much less aggravating for me. It also looks nice. Not like having a dirty trash can full of cat sh** sitting around.
I Should Have Bought This SOONER!
April 23, 2016
This is an item I purchased for myself and I'm not sure why I put it off for so long! I have been looking to get one of these for quite awhile.I have two cats and I feel like I'm constantly scooping out the litter box and going out to the trash. Although I take the garbage out everyday the trashcan will stink from the tied off bag of dirty litter. This Litter Genie is great! It was super easy to put the refill "bags" in, its super easy to use and best of all it doesn't STINK! It's sturdy but not heavy to move around because it's made of plastic and it comes with the litter scoop and the pocket on the side of the can to hold it.I have issues with removing the litter "bag" from this Litter Genie.#1 The opening in the top where you place the dirty litter is to small. I am showing the top with a measuring tape. I also wanted to show a picture of the middle where it opens (pardon the dirty litter). This is from last night and this early A.M. I am also showing pictures of how to retie and create a new "bag".#2 It opens in the middle of the can and then I had to figure out how to the cut the "bag" without spilling any dirty litter. It feels like I have to pull the bag to far down to cut it and it uses more of the "bags" then I had hoped. I'm sure I'll figure that out to my satisfaction as I use it more. I hope this is helpful to you. All in all I highly recommend this Litter Genie.

March 3, 2016
This thing is amazing! Having to take little our three or four times a day was making me question how my two cats can still be so cute. With this thing twice a month. It retains the smell to where it doesn't even seem like o have cats in the house anymore. The feature of having a bag cutter inside so it's easy to keep the cartridge going is wonderful! I attached a photo to show max capacity. And remember
An absolute must for cats!!
December 30, 2015
Still an outstanding product that does what it says. We have multiple cats and the litter cleaning used to be a real chore. With the Litter Genie it's just scoop, pop it in the Genie and pull the slide and no more odors. The non-branded refills do fit and although some say they are not as good as the originals, I find all of them work just the same. Of course, the caveat here is to change the bags when they are about 1/2 full as nothing ever made will stand the test of time against cat urine, no matter how well it clumps. I change the bag at least once a week, sometimes twice. I do find that litter box smell is dependent on the type of food they eat; ours eat both wet and dry food so sometimes it can be quite odoriferous. If there is a down side it is that the waste contaminates the bag on the way to the bottom so the upper part will always have some odor, especially if you cut the bags short when disposing. There is a cure for that in this little trick I devised. Place a Stick-Up deodorizer on the underside of the lid and when you lift the lid it's a pleasant citrus aroma. I buy the Stick-Ups and remove the sticky tape completely and place a strip of Velcro on the underside of the lid and another mating piece on the Stick-Up. Press it together and viola! You now have an even better Litter Genie. Plus, the top of the Stick-Up containing the scent gel can be pulled off the bottom so one application of Velcro is all that will be needed. Simply pull off the top section and replace it with the top section of the new Stick-Up and you're good to go again. That said we use a natural cat litter, so your mileage on bags may vary depending on the number of cats, their waste and type of litter. Here is another trick to assure your Litter Genie is always fresh smelling:
Love it!
October 21, 2014
Love it!! Perfect next to litter box, has a holder on outside for scoop, easy and wide enough to put used letter clumps in top. Keeps smells enclosed and keeps area clean. I wish I had bought this years ago! Easy to set up and has a cutter inside to cut bag and stretch out new one. I'm a clean fanatic so this is perfect!

Great hooded litter box with functional swinging door.
January 22, 2017
Purchased from and shipped by Amazon.

Arrived in great condition, no parts deformed or warped to report. After assembly, swinging door works well and clears its opening. Hood fits well and stays put, enough so that I don't use the four side locks.

Added a few photos that may assist in showing the size of this litter box. It is quite large. Photo's show the Catit Jumbo Hooded box next to a very common storage tub and that is in a size that many use. It is 18 gallons. Also, looking at the labels off both (see 3rd pic) pretty close in dimensions.

Prior to purchasing the Catit, made a make shift litter box out of the tub to mainly see if the two cats would take to a hooded style. The total project cost of my homemade unit was $6 dollars. Honestly, it works very well. Both cat like to climb on top of it, made for a nice feeding station.

Both cats are using their new Catit. First concern was how high in the front it is but they don't seem to mind climbing in. As far as the swinging door, have simply left it folded over the top so far.

Like the size for two cats. Holds a lot of litter, guessing I put about 25 lbs of a 40 lb box in it.

While the construction is good and materials are at least that of the storage tub shown in the pictures, not sure I would trust the handle or locks when moving it with 25 lbs of litter.

Working out well. Factor the price paid along with features, clean look and ease of maintenance, find it a good value and can easily recommend.
He pretty much filled up the whole box
June 18, 2016
We have a 20-lb. fluffy cat as you can see from his picture. He needed a new box, so I had picked up a "large" sifting, covered box in a store. He would not use it. When I sat him inside, he just looked at me. He got out and rubbed against me and the outside of the box, wanting to thank me and use it. I put him in again, but he looked at me and jumped out. He pretty much filled up the whole box. Just received this Catit Jumbo hooded pan and set it up yesterday. I like how the "door" lifts up and back for scooping. Since the box was new to him, we left the door up and back. He used it last evening. This morning, we closed the door on it and he used it again. This is a great box and gives our larger cat room to move around and cover as he likes to.
Awesome litter box (but..)
May 18, 2016
I ordered two of these. The first one was AWESOME! Best litter box ever. I loved it so much I ordered a second one. The second one had a defect where the swinging door got stuck. I called amazon and they are replacing it with a new one. I still give 5 stars because the first one is such an awesome litter box. Its big, spacious, the top conveniently opens to easily change the litter and the clear door is awesome with keeping smell and litter inside. I will always buy this litter box when I need one :)

To give an idea of the size of this thing, I'll quote Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy:

"[This thing] is big. Really big. You just won't believe how vastly, hugely, mind-bogglingly big it is."

When it first arrived, my wife messaged me asking why I had bought a Hummer instead of a catbox. She then sent me a picture of our 3-year old laying INSIDE the (brand-new, not pooped-in) catbox. This thing is so big, you won't even be able to find any liners to fit it. We told the pet store owner we needed JUMBO liners, he gave us JUMBO liners. We now have a cat trampoline.

In our quest to find the right liners for this HUGE catbox, we stumbled upon Catit's own line of liners. I can't imagine how big things must be over at the Catit factory, but the liners that fit this specific catbox are called REGULAR (http://www.amazon.com/Catit-Litter-Liner-Pack-Size/dp/B00RVXEADM/). They also have a JUMBO size liner for body disposal.
Roomier than expected
September 12, 2015
Too early to tell if my two female cats like this box or not, but I will say it's just as spacious as I'd hoped. The other photos don't really show how large this box is! It's amazing! I'm very happy with my purchase.

Odorless and Fantastic
March 16, 2017
I don't normally give reviews on these types of items however, we love this litter! My boyfriend absolutely hates the smell of litter like Arm and Hammer and those types, so we were on a mission to find the opposite of that, and we found it! There is no scent to the litter and it also masks the kitty aftermath. Granted, we have a great litter box but this litter truly does it's job. The consistency is great too, she doesn't seem to track it all over the place.I would have given a 5 star review but I was surprised to see that the bag I ordered a month ago has doubled in price. The packaging has changed and that could be a factor, but to literally double your price? I was kind of surprised to see that as a consumer. I love the product and will continue to buy it, but I thought that was a lame decision to be perfectly frank. Hopefully this packaging takes a strain off of the delivery person because it was SO heavy!!First time buyers, just get this litter, it's a game changer.
Why can't there be consistence pricing OR subscription?
July 18, 2016
I've bought this litter multiple times and it is great - the only thing that bothers me is that this litter gets everywhere but less than other brands. Another issue is the PRICE - I've seen this kitty litter jump up and down from 16 to 40 to 16 to 40. Why can't there be consistence pricing OR subscription? especially since it is something that people purchase regularly.
I have multiple cats and I loved this liter and the price

I have multiple cats and I loved this liter and the price! However, the price has gone from about $17 per 40 pound bag to $35 per bag and no longer Amazon Prime for free shipping!!! What happened??!!
Zero to Hero
February 25, 2016
I originally gave this a TERRIBLE review because of the horrible odor control of this product but I was wrong.I had to change my original review and am offering an apology to the company, and to those who may have been swayed by my terrible review. I'm not one to broadcast details of my life to strangers and don't understand why so many people do. I am here because I felt it was the right thing to do.SO... I stopped using this litter and the odor remained. I was dumbfounded. She used to have accidents when I first got her because of the abuse from her previous owner. It's been at least two years since her last "episode", so I assumed it was the litter's fault. It turns out that my cat started peeing on the mat I have under the litterbox. I left for the weekend right after changing the litter. I guess that was too much change for her. I really don't know what triggered her. I've changed litters numerous times in the past in my search for the "perfect" litter, have left for more than two days (with automatic food and water) a bunch of times over the years and she hasn't reacted negatively to any of that. There was a thunderstorm that weekend too, so maybe it was all too much for her. I dunno. She's fine now. After cleaning with Nature's Miracle (#NaturesMiracleRocks) :o) I placed another order for it, and VOILA! No odor, VERY low tracking, and it's dust-free!I would have given it a full 5 star review if it had SOME kind of scent. It's more psychological I guess since it doesn't really need it. It just feels odd not having a scent. Like it isn't fresh or something. (I know it sounds crazy, but it's my honest opinion)I now buy some litter freshener additive stuff and lightly sprinkle it into the litter. So it does cost a bit more than most litters, plus I buy that powder stuff which raises the cost even higher, but it's really worth it.. This is a GREAT litter!
Does not work for one of my cats
January 30, 2016
Update: I downgraded this cat litter to 4 stars (2-20-2016)This issue may be only my cat's problem. One of my cats used to be an outdoor cat and after I moved she had to become an inside cat. This cat litter does not work for her. She keeps digging in the litter as if she expected to find a treasure. She has never demonstrated this kind of behavior with any kind of other litter. In short - won't be using this cat litter anymore. I can't have my cat spend more time than necessary in her litter box. My other cat does not dig in the cat litter for fun. [I adopted him when he was 4 yrs old and don't know if used to be an outside at any time. Since he is with me he is not.]~*~I must admit when the cat litter arrived and I first filled it into the litter pan I was disappointed. While I am not sure what I expected, to me this litter did not seem superior or outstanding in any way. Personally, I prefer the "natural" litters made from wood chips, corn husks, or any type of plant material. To me this litter seemed to "unattractive little stones/sand."But, it's not for me. My two cats, Artemis and Yin-Yang are supposed to like it - and they do; they love it. I have two big litter boxes for my cats and each cat considers one of the litter boxes their territory. Artemis is the alpha-female. I adopted her first and she believes that she is the books of this house-hold. Ying-Yang is sweet and accepts her as the boss.As it was, I exchanged only the litter in Artemis litter box, because Yin-Yang's was fresh; I had just changed it the day before the new litter arrived. To my utter surprise Yin-Yang began using Artemis litter box. This is so out of his temperament. In one and a half years he has never used Artemis litter box because he knows that she considers it her territory. Twice I saw him standing in front of both litter boxes, checking if Artemis wasn't anywhere close and then use hers. This went down like in one of these famous TV-commercials.In the three days both cats used only the litter box with the new litter, the Precious Cat Ultra Premium Clumping Cat litter.Even though I still don't like the little stone/sand character I have to say - it's dust free and because it is heavier, my cats don't carry it through the house as much.Cat approved - thus mom is going to buy it.Gisela Hausmann, author & blogger
What's with the price increases? Great litter but not worth $30 + shipping
January 29, 2016
This litter is great. Probably one of the best I've used and I've tried all the kinds you can get at stores like target/Walmart/etc.Clumping: clumps are very strong and rarely break apart.Odor control: I live in a small town house so odor control is important. This stuff didn't cut it, but I add activated carbon chunks to the litter and it does a great job.Dust: it's a little dusty, but there are some others that are wayyyy worse (arm and hammer). There is usually dust on the rim of the box and I wipe it off every week.Price: this used to be $15 shipped through prime, but now it's $30 + $6 shipping. At that cost I'll look into other options, but I wish I could continue buying it at $15 for 40 pounds.

Invaluable; Makes Scooping Litter Boxes Almost Easy
August 22, 2017
For a long time I resisted getting a Litter Genie, because why? You can use a little grocery bag or throw it all in the trash and then empty the trash. But now that I have one, I can see it's invaluable. The setup is simple and almost a bit crude, but it works so well. I'd love it if the entire thing were a bit more sturdy, though, but it's hard to argue with what works. I have two others--one really old one that isn't the "plus" model that got broken (white) and a newer one that is silver. I bought this black one just to have one that was different, and now I regret that. The litter dust gets all over the black and make it look filthy almost immediately. I cannot keep the outside of it cleaned off. It always looks like it's been sitting in a haunted house for thirty years. If I ever need another one, I'll buy another silver one.
Solved a lot of problems.
November 27, 2016
Only 4 stars? I will explain that quickly and then tell you why it COULD be 5 stars. The attachment for the scooper makes it incredibly difficult to completely seal the top half of the genie itself. By simply not attaching it-I have no issues-so in that case I would give it 5 stars. Here is why:I have two cats-both male, both dominate. And they OVER use the litter box. For a couple years, I was really lazy about cleaning out the litter box. It was such a hassle.Ad then I would start to smell it. Have to find plastic grocery bags, make sure there are no holes, use two just in case, etc. I HATED IT. So this genie (I'm assuming modeled off the diaper genie) solved ALL OF THAT.I am not using the plastic scooper it came with, but a metal one I have just because I think it is more sturdy. After feeding the cats in the morning, I go to the litter box, scoop their junk into the genie, pull the lever out and it drops into the bag. No smell. No hassle. It sits right next to the litter box and there is no issue! With two male cats (one weighs about 14 lbs and the other about 20)- I have to replace the bag from the genie one every two weeks. And that is VERY easy to do!It comes with one set of bags-and I have been using it for about two months and I still haven't gone through all the bags. It is a huge relief to me and I know the cats are happy with a clean potty everyday. I used to have problems with one of them going on the floor-and now I am convinced it was because I wasn't cleaning out the litter box enough. It is a good product and I would highly recommend it.I do hope in the future they make one that has more sturdy plastic-as I can see this one is only going to last so long. It does feel a bit flimsy. But I'm not traveling around with it-so I should be good for a while. But I would like made out of metal or some material that is better than it is now.I do have to say that I can stick my nose right up to it-and I smell NOTHING when the bag is completely full.
Guarded razor somewhat hard to use, otherwise wonderful product.
April 28, 2016
I purchased this item because I am taking care of three cats. They have multiple litter boxes throughout the home but they all decided they'd rather use the one in the downstairs bathroom. After use from 3 cats, it started to be disgusting about halfway through the day. Scooping litter wasn't the issue, the issue was the smell that resulted if I didn't immediately take the soiled litter outside to the dumpster. Using the litter genie, I cannot smell ANYTHING even with the lid left open due to the compartment underneath that actually holds the waste bag. I'd give this a full 5 stars if it were a bit easier to cut the bag when emptying. (It has a built-in guarded razor but it's somewhat hard to get the bag in it correctly.) Everything else about this product is magnificent. I'll definitely be buying refills and using this for as long as possible. I keep a pair of scissors nearby to cut the bag manually, it is much easier than using the built-in razor.
Good

So this actually comes with a scooper. Unless I missed it, it never said that anywhere. So I bought another scooper. I don't like how small the opening is. And I wish there was some kind of latch on the lid so my toddler wouldn't open it.
Great product, makes cleaning up a breeze! Wish it was built a little more sturdy though...

As a new cat owner (I let a stray in on a cold winter night and she decided to keep us lol) I quickly realized how much I was going to HATE dealing with a litter box and cat waste. Keeping a wad of plastic grocery bags (that may or may not have holes in them) and then taking them down to the trash everyday just wasn't going to cut it. I was actually on the fence about keeping the cat until I did a few things to make owning her substantially easier. This product along with the great litter they sell here on Amazon plus a Cat Box/Washroom to hide the litter box has ensured Jinxy has a permanent home with us :)Now about this product - it came packaged well and was super easy to setup for first use. It includes the genie, a refill cartridge and a scoop. Just pull the seal off of the supplied refill cartride, insert into the unit, pull the film through the hole to the bottom of the genie and then tie a knot in the bottom of the film - latch it closed and it's ready to use.The usability of this product is spot on - it couldn't be easier to use! Just pop the lid, dump the waste in the funnel shaped hole, close the lid then pull the spring-tensioned sliding seal and the waste drops down into the bag. Let the seal go and you're done. Clean, no smell and it holds about a week's worth of waste for a medium sized cat.The only real issue I have with the product is that for something that sees daily use it is pretty flimsy... The plastic of the genie itself is very thin - it could stand to be at least twice as thick. I would easily pay twice as much for a heavier duty version. For the price though it's really hard to complain, especially for all the benefits it brings to the table.
It is very affordable for the start up costs. The refills however are not cheap.
March 8, 2015
This litter Genie is a very useful item to have next to the litter box. It comes with a scoop and a holder that attaches to the side. It was really easy to install the refill cartridge. There's a little tab you pull kind of like a milk jug lid, it tabs and you just pull around the top, then pull the plastic out and push it through the center, then tie a knot in the end of it and drop it into the top of the Genie. Close the top and it's ready to use. After you dump the dirty litter into the bucket you pull the black tab in the middle and slide it toward you. The dirty litter and bag drops down, and you let the black divider close over the dirty litter in the bag.It is not the same as the diaper Genie because it doesn't twist seal the litter, like that does the diapers. You open it in the middle below the divider, and gather the bag, use the white cuter tool that is attached under the divider and close and dispose of it. You then knot the new end on the plastic to make another bag and restart from the top.It would be much more convenient if it did twist and seal the litter, as the diaper genie does the diapers. As is the design is not a whole lot different from a step on can that has a tightly sealed lid. It is very affordable for the start up costs. The refills however are not cheap.

Needs air flow, not dimples in the door
September 16, 2017
There are several good things about this litter pan, and a few that need improvement. One uniquely good thing is that, unlike other hooded litter pans, this lid has a nice secure lock in four places. However, two of the locks on the hood I received needed an X-acto knife to trim plastic ends that hadn't been fully cut out. Another good thing is that the swinging door really does swing - other brands have doors that either don't swing or fall off. The handle doesn't quite work when the pan is full of litter, but that isn't an issue for me since I don't move the pan around. There's a little rim to allow you to anchor a plastic bag while scooping litter, and the door/filter portion of the lid rises to allow you better access. That's nice, but not a big deal. The color, described as warm gray, is closer to greige. I have a lot of gray in my bathroom, and the litter box looks distinctly beige against it. If you're fussy about matching décor, bear that in mind. The one thing I really disliked, for which I took off a star, is that the swinging door appears in the photo to have tiny air holes. It doesn't. Those things are merely decorative dimples. Without any air holes, the litter box is going to hold heat and smells and produce bacteria like crazy. Because of that, I'm removing the door. I may drill holes in it myself and then put the door back, but my cat needs some air flow and I don't want to encourage the growth of mold or bacteria. Side note: the first product I received arrived broken. With Amazon's excellent customer service, I returned it for free and received a replacement that was in perfect condition. Hooray for Amazon!
FOUR AND A HALF STARS FROM ME
May 25, 2017
I have a 3 cat household. I adopted 2 from a humane shelter and I took in an orphan cat living on the street. So, 3 cats and 4 litter boxes. One on the screened in porch, one in the hallway, one in the corner of the den and one in the spare bedroom. I threw away one that this Catit Jumbo Hooded litter box is replacing. It is very good size and well made. I have about 15 lbs of litter in there now. It holds the litter in, that is it doesn't get "splashed out", like the short one I tossed out. I like the latches that secure the hood and the hood has a replaceable charcoal filter. (I don't think its doing anything) .Here's the thing; Since I've had this Catit Jumbo litter box out, my cats are not using the other boxes. SERIOUSLY! I saw Bagherra wait for Beau to come out, so she could go in. The other 3 boxes, just one had a little piddle, that's it. The Catit box was "full" . Now, I go 2 days usually 3 days sometimes 4 days without cleaning because; I have 3 large and one Jumbo litter bathrooms. I really like this box. But then you ask, "hey you like it so much why only 4 stars"? I'd give it 4 and a half but no halves exist SO; 4.5 it is. REASON:is; the design towards the front "entrance" inside the box, not squared off. I thought I had all the waste removed out when I noticed it up against the front area I mentioned. I had to take the hood off and lightly scrape (dig) into this crevice with the scoop sideways to fit into the area. Other than that its a must have for people with multiple cats
Definite Improvement On Litter Scatter
March 22, 2017
I got this litter box primarily to stop litter scatter. My current litter boxes have an extension wall with a big opening which the cats then back up to and kick litter out of. I thought this would fix that problem. It does make a significant improvement, but it has not completely solved it as some of the litter is still getting tracked out in the cats paws.

Pros: helps with litter scatter
Doors swing easily. Cats adapted in 1-2 days
Very large, easily can be used by 1 extra large or 2 average cats

CONS:
Because it is enclosed, the stench really stays in there. Even with the carbon pad and hole in the ceiling, when I open it I'm nearly knocked out by the ammonia smell. I probably need to clean it out more often but this wasn't an issue with my open top litter box.
It's extremely large. I didn't realize I was getting such a large box. It's much bigger than my regular one. If I had an extra fat cat this would be nice, but I don't and it's really big.
I wish there was a way to keep the flap open while I scoop. I have the cat box under a shelf in my laundry room and I cannot lift the flap up to prop it somewhere. I have to push the flap in to scoop and there's nothing to hold it. I wish it had a catch on the inside to hold the door open.

Overall it's an improvement and I would recommend it with a few caveats.
Great product overall, just one weird design choice
October 19, 2016
It just arrived today and it looks like it will work great. I've had cats for 25 years and have gone through almost every kind of litter box out there; and I have a good feeling about this one due to:
- Very clever folding hood design, which is intended for easy scooping (you won't need to remove the top); but it will have additional value for cats who are skittish about covered boxes...just leave the flap up
- Clever design for the filter too -- the cats will have to work hard to get that out :-)
- Sturdy plastic, including the locking mechanism and handle
- Pretty big but not too big (of course this is subjective; but I've had bigger boxes that truly posed space problems and this will not)

If it performs as expected, it would normally get five stars from me, but I docked one for a very simple design flaw, which hopefully they'll fix in the future: the icons that show when the box is "locked" and "unlocked." HAVING the icons is a great idea, since the lock can't be seen without turning the box completely upside down; and there's no easy way to tell whether one particular slider is locked at the moment or not.

The implementation is really odd though:
- When the sliders are in the unlocked position, the "locked" icon shows.
- When the sliders are in the locked position, the "unlocked" icon shows.

I get that their intent was that you'd slide in the direction of the icon to change toward the desired state; but this is completely counter-intuitive, at least imo. (If it's locked, it should say locked!! Who is with me on this??)

Anyway, when I first set it up, it took me a ridiculous amount of time to figure out what was going on and why the lid wouldn't lock properly. Now that I understand the iconography, it won't cause any more problems; but still...with as much truly good design that went into this product, I'm surprised that this slipped through.

Aside from that, I fully expect that this will work beautifully and will update if that's not the case.
This product is BIG. My older cat took to it right off the bat and uses it over the other older non-door litter box.
September 10, 2016
This product is BIG. It takes up a lot of room. Even though the door tilts up to "clean" I find it cumbersome to do a thorough job without taking the whole lid off. The locking clips are pretty much useless if you use a liner that overlaps the edges. That being said I don't use the latches and the lid is heavy enough to not come off through regular use and movement. My kitten won't use it as he is leery of it and hasn't quite figured how to use the door. My older cat took to it right off the bat and uses it over the other older non-door litter box. I use a high quality litter so i cant comment on the functionality of the air cleaner.
Huge Litter Box...Watch the Swinging Door!
July 10, 2016
This is a HUGE litter box (hence the jumbo)! If you have a very large cat or a few, this is definitely a wise investment. I purchased this to reduce the never ending litter debris and plume that seems to exists no matter how many times I clean! It's pretty cool-enclosed but roomy, swinging door, carbon filter. But! The only issue is the swinging door doesn't quit fit so it doesn't swing well. If you have a cat like mine, he/she will get stuck in the litter box unless they punch their way out with their head...! I simply removed the swinging door so at least I could fold down the top and get 'some' benefit from the carbon filter (see pics). That's the only issue thus far but I've rated the product a 4 instead of a full 5 stars simply because the swinging door function should be an obvious quality control check...

I don't like the harsh perfumes of scented litter but this is ...
March 24, 2017
Not any different from regular unscented litter. The size of the litter seems extremely varied. Some big pieces, some tiny pieces. It's not 100% dust free, there is definitely some dust because of the smaller pieces. For it being unscented, you can smell urine and feces for up to 3 hours after the fact. Doesn't matter how well the cat buries it. I don't like the harsh perfumes of scented litter but this is definitely worse. As for clumping, I didn't notice it clumping better than any litter at the same price range. It does seal to the bottom of a plastic litter box and has to be chipped at with a metal scooper to dislodge. For the price, I wouldn't buy it again. It didn't impress me.
40 lb. bag is way too heavy for me to handle!
March 6, 2017
While this is a very good price for what I consider to be the best cat litter, this will be the last time I order a 40 lb bag of it. Opening it, and dumping half of it into the litter box, will be a job only my husband will be able to do, so from now on I'll just stick with the regular 18 lb bags. Something this heavy should really be in a box, otherwise not only is it too heavy to handle but the risk of spillage is too great.
Very heavy, low volume
February 7, 2017
Have not used this yet but thought it would be a great buy. I think I paid $13, assuming this might be 5 times as much volume as my usual litter. Of course, it is 40 lbs, but keep in mind that's because it is very heavy. For volume, my usual Petco refillable is just as economical. I will update if I have any comments about performance or dust. Bag arrived unharmed in spite of a smashed box.
Not sure if maybe my male cat has super pee or what...
October 13, 2016
Wish 3.5 stars was an option. I'm a first time cat owner and have been using this product for about two years, since adopting my two cats as kittens. It isn't dusty (which I guess is an issue?). Not sure if maybe my male cat has super pee or what but he likes to go against the edge of the box. In these situations it clumps poorly and results in HUUUUUUUUUUUGE chunks of wet litter the consistency of cement. It then breaks apart when scooping and turns into a mess. There haven't really been litter box issues so I guess I'd say they like it, which is why I am hesitant to try anything else and continue to use it. I don't really notice the smell too much, but I also clean the boxes daily.
Great litter. It does track but not as bad ...
September 16, 2016
Great litter. It does track but not as bad as some others. And it does stick to the bottom but the best by far for odor control. I add active charcoal and there is no smell at all. Try to order this separate.. as it was packaged with another item that could have been damaged. Also my second order of this arrived with the bag inside open a little and litter all over the place.Update*** I still love this litter but what I don't like is the price being jacked up almost triple. Good way to lose customers right there. Star drop due to that sales practice
Good product, but reluctant to ever purchase again...
August 11, 2016
I've purchased this cat litter multiple times and I have found it is a really great product and probably the best cat litter that I have used so far. However, I opened the most recent bag that I purchased, began to pour it into the litter box and found a dead, dried out mouse inside the bag of cat litter. I am reluctant to ever buy this product again after this. The mouse was packaged inside the bag of cat litter and did not come from my house or the cat. Three stars only because it is a good quality product, but the mouse inside ruined it for me.

It may have worked, but not for me.
June 14, 2017
I think it would do its job but for me I found two issues.1.) From the minute I took it out of the box I noticed just how flimsy and cheap it was. Very cheap plastic and I doubted it would last very long.2.) I have three big male cats and by the time I scooped out the litter boxes for the day the litter genie was full so to me it was exactly the same as a trash bag and taking it out every single day.
Not a Purrrfect System
August 23, 2016
I came across this item as I was looking for a cat litter mat to protect my carpet from cat litter when emptying the litterbox. I saw it had great reviews so I took the plunge and purchased the item. Upon receiving, you have a little bit of work to do to put the product together. The directions the product came with are not clear as to what to do, but with a little trial and error you can figure out how to assemble the product.Once you get used to how the product works and its quirks, it's great. I can empty the litterbox without making trips to the can outside. I don't notice any odor. I can see how the disposal system will get messy over time, so, like another reviewer pointed out, it's a good idea to use disinfecting wipes on the unit every now and then to keep it clean.I rated this product three stars due to the difficulty in use for first time users and how it serves just a small convenience over scooping litter into a plastic bag, which is what I did previously.
It's okay, but...
August 6, 2016
The Plus version includes the scoop. I threw it out, it's too wide to pour the waste into the funnel! Then, I had a difficult time cutting the bag when it was time to change it. (I made a huge mess) I am using scissors the next time. I'm disappointed the clumps need to be broken up in order to compress into the compartment. On the positive side, it looks good, there is no smell and it eliminates my bag collection.
Great concept, overly expensive replacement bags
August 2, 2016
Easy to use, NO odor with the original replacement bagsI think there is some kind of a deodorant between the layers of the replacement bagsBUT - - the OEM replacements are 47 cents per foot, and the competitors replacement bags are only 27 cents per foot.Time will tell if the replacement Chinese bags stink through before they are fullBut as I have 2 cats and 2 litter boxes - the recycle time will be short - and the poop may not penetrateBefore the bag is full and needs recycling (update pending).
good at first, but not once the plastic (to form the bag) needed a refill.
April 29, 2016
Initially I really liked this genie. It worked well, though it took a bit to get used to how to use it. Though it seems simple, Getting the bag to come down correctly was a bit tricky. It kept the odor down and was easy to use after the second pull down. The problem arose when I needed to change the bag (refill). There isn't an easy way to tell if the bag is close to finish; therefore, what happened was I kept putting in the clumped litter and what I didn't know was the bag (plastic) ended and thus the litter simply filled the bottom container and the bag was mixed it. It was really quite the mess. when I finally got it all cleaned out and tried to put a refill into the device; the refill was about a half-inch too big, though they were sold as an addition to the genie. I have put a small bag into the bottom and hope it will work.
Good, but I preferred the Litter Locker 2
December 8, 2015
I have tried both this product and the Litter Locker 2. Although this one is nice and did work as advertised, I preferred the litter locker for a number of reasons. For starters, although both seem to contain smell fairly well, the litter genie is much smaller than the locker, and therefore fills up quicker and needs emptied out more often. Another reason is that the entire top comes off of the litter locker, whereas with the genie, the top part flips up. This makes cleaning that part much more difficult as you can not remove it from the rest of the case. Since this is where you dump the dirty litter, it tends to get fairly messy and I like the ability to remove and fully sanitize this portion, making the locker a better design. One final reason, and probably the most important to me, is that the litter locker makes it much easier to use garbage bags instead of the refills sold in store. I like to use the 8 gallon trash bags instead of buying the expensive refills. With the litter locker, I can simply place the garbage bag in and put the lid on, which holds it securely in place. The genie, however, since it folds down, makes it much more difficult to use trash bags with. You have to keep an empty refill and wrap the trash bag around that, securing it in place with a rubber band. Although it can be done, it isn't nearly as easy or secure as the litter locker 2. Therefore, although it does do a good job of containing smells and does help with litter box scooping, if I had a choice between the two this would be my second choice.

Listed dimensions are INCORRECT. Excellent jumbo litterbox, much larger than advertised.
June 1, 2017
I'm giving this 3 stars as an average of two ratings:

1) 1 Star review because the product description says:: "22.4 x 18.3 x 17 Inches (LxHxW)". According to that, I should have been able to fit 2 in the closet I had planned these for. I found out after delivery that it is ACTUALLY 22 long-19.7 Wide- 18.5 high. I measure just over 19 inches at it's widest point. That's almost 3 inches wider than the descriptions says. Well, my closet didn't have an extra 6 inches of width so I can only fit one. Since I had already measured and "knew" they would fit, I used the delivery boxes to trash the old litter boxes. So since I trashed the packaging, I'm stuck with a litter box I can't use and now shopping for something small enough to fit next to this one. Poor form on the seller's part. 3inchs is a significant difference. Be prepared for it to be LARGER than the description states. Especially if you only have so much room.

2) 5 star review for the product itself not including dimensions. It's a well made litter box. There seems to be a great non-stick property to it that makes the litter clumps pop off into the scoop with ease. I already had a smaller version of this box and I really appreciate the fact that the top flap flips back for easy cleaning without having to remove the entire lid (I thought I was ordering the exact same box, actually, so I'm a returning customer). I also need a box like this with a removable door since my cats don't like to use doors. Great litterbox. I'd give it 5 stars except that, as stated in section 1 of this review, the advertised dimensions are way off. It's also plenty big for my bigger cat - He's not remotely fat (could stand to gain a bit) but is a solid 11lbs of muscle and he can use this with ease.

In summary: Excellent jumbo litterbox, much larger than advertised. Listed dimensions are INCORRECT
A couple of annoying features
July 30, 2016
I was going to give this litter pan Four Stars, but when I thought about the negative aspects, they were few, but significant enough to warrant a lower score. First, the positives. It is good-sized, plenty large enough for our two cats, one of which is a tall fifteen pounder. It keeps the scattered litter to a minimum. There seems to be no odor problem, but it is scooped daily. The handle is sturdy. Next, the negatives. The worst is the stiffness of the latches connecting top and bottom. This means that my arthritic hands have a dickens of a time opening and closing them. Fortunately, you can scoop the box without removing the lid by opening up the "front door." However, I'd really recommend a long handled, sturdy metal scoop. The second problem we had was the swinging door. It kept getting hung up on the box's opening and wouldn't swing freely. I thought I could shorten the flap but that didn't work. Finally, I removed it as our cats have had no experience with a door and I didn't want to risk it. It works fine without the door flap. My last complaint is that it's very heavy, but how could it be otherwise given the amount of litter it takes? So all in all, it's an okay purchase.
Its a poop box.
January 28, 2016
The little hood cutout in the top is nice, but I find I still like to take the entire top off to clean it, to better reach all the nuggets my cats like to place in strategic locations.

On that not the plastic clasps that hold the thing together, while maybe will last longer, sure are finicky to work you have to sort of pull foward instead of straight up to get them to disengage from the bottom half of the unit.

The low reach on the box is nice for older cats who struggle to climb in, but the tradeoff is more litter kicked outside the units if your cats are extra aggressive in their housekeeping duties.

Other than that this is a pretty standard box, the cats seem to like it.
Door doesn't swing freely.
January 20, 2016
I really WANTED to like this large cat box, so when the door wouldn't swing both ways without hitting the side and trapping the cat inside, I (1) got out my soldering iron and proceeded to cut away some of the plastic from the sides of the doorway. Didn't work; still stuck. (2) I melted off the two little nubs that are supposed to "snap" the door on top (not needed anyway). That didn't really didn't do anything, but my next step (3) was to put a 4" nail in the track on the left side, sort of gluing it down so it wouldn't slip. This allows the flap to "tilt" just enough to alter its alignment in the doorway. Now it swings easily. A lot of work for something that should work right in the first place, but it was an acceptable "fix" for me, and no need to return the big bugger.
The size of this litter box requires an extra helping of litter, which, when using clay litter, becomes very heavy. My suggestion is to use the lighter-weight cob litter, if you can get your kitty to use it.
Roomy and sturdy; easy to care for
September 10, 2014
Almost perfect for us! We don't use liners, and the surface inside is slick which makes scooping easier. Have two, and the swinging door on one of them catches at the bottom, so we just leave the "sun roof" up. Otherwise, it's very well made. We leave the latches unlocked. They're a little difficult to slide. Even with the one that has the sun roof up, it's easy to access the inside. As you can guess, odor control is better in the one with a correctly fitting door. We just started using the corn cat litter and love it too. Here's the link for it:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009QJYBVK/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Update: We find it easier to use with the latches on sides removed. It's a little tricky popping them out, but now it's easier to remove and replace the tops for cleaning. Those latches are the only poor design feature, apart from the door catching at bottom on one of the boxes.

If you like scraping the pan with your finger
July 4, 2017
Update: Upon my monthly replacement, I noticed many very small clumps settled on the bottom that stuck to the pan like glue. I have never had this happen with any other brand. Scrubbing with wet towels did not work. I didn't want to use tools as that would scratch the pan. I literally had to pick at the clumps for ten minutes with my finger nails to completely clean the pan out. Then the fun task of cleaning the litter from under my nails. While it's dust-free and odor control work well, I will never use this brand again now matter how cheap it is on sale due to the extra cleaning involved.I tried this brand because it was on sale here. The clumping action is excellent. It creates a solid large clump that doesn't break apart after only a few minutes and is easy to scoop. I see no traces of dust when scooping which I especially appreciate. The odor protection is excellent leaving no traces of smells whether it be minutes or hours. My only complaint is that if the clump is touching the box, it tends to stick to the box. You must perform some (tough at times) scraping to get it off, which my current favorite Fresh Step, does not do. This action may be difficult for some. However, the fact that the price keeps going up means I probably won't be buying again though.
Clumps like cement
October 7, 2016
I bought this litter because it has great reviews and is a great price. I should have looked more closely at the reviews - the newer reviews are much less positive than the older ones. I didn't have a problem with dust or odor control, but the clumps are like cement and they stick to the bottom of the litter box. You have to scrape forever to get them to come up and they break off into little pieces. Very disappointing. I didn't want to waste a whole bag of litter, so we mix it in with Tidy Cat litter and it does better that way.
Litter so precious, my cat wouldn't use it!
May 11, 2016
I had been using Dr. Elsey's Cat Attract litter for about a year to great success with an older cat who started having litter box issues late in life. We used to buy it at the pet store, but they stopped carrying it for awhile. Then I was ordering it from Amazon, but it wasn't always in stock. I read reviews of the Precious Cat litter, and a lot of people seemed to think it was as good as the more expensive, harder to get Cat Attract litter. Our older cat had passed away last year, and we recently adopted a five month old kitten who seemed not to have any litter box issues (but had only used the Cat Attract). I bought a bag of this and added it to the dwindling Cat Attract litter left in the box. The next morning, our kitten with no litter box issues had peed in two separate locations in the house! We went back to the Cat Attract and haven't had any problems since. This litter may be great for some, but whatever "attracts" my cat to the Cat Attract is something he now looks for when it's time to eliminate. Needless to say, I have "eliminated" this litter from my house.
Not a good litter for my cats
February 19, 2016
I really didn't like this litter. It doesn't get rid of any of the cat smells and when the cats use it the litter turns into almost hard squishy clay. It makes it really tough to clean the box. I tried scooping it the first day but by the second I just had to dump the whole tray. I bought a 40 lb bag and it went very quickly having to dump the whole thing every other day. Not only did I have to deal with the litter mess but also had to really scrub and clean the pan after since it all stuck to the bottom. It just caused a whole lot of extra work. I won't be buying any more.
Not the same litter these days...
April 15, 2014
I've been using this litter for almost a year now, and decided to wait a long time to see how it performs before leaving a review. We have five adult cats and three very large custom-made litter boxes (made from the giant covered Rubbermaid totes, as three of our cats are 20+ pounds (and not fat, they are big breeds)). The cats range from 8 years old (two of them) to 12+. Litter and cleaning litter boxes is something I feel like I'm an expert in by now (having been an indoor cat owner for almost twenty-five years). At first, after coming from almost a pure dust-based litter like Scoop-Away, this product was a blessing. I tried it, the corn/wheat based stuff, other synthetic types, and as I whittled down which litters were the best, this one, by far, was the absolute best when it came to odor, dust, tracking, and general enjoyment (I don't really say that with a straight face, as litter boxes are anything but enjoyable, but Precious Cat made the daily job far, far more enjoyable than before).Three months ago I was finally ready to leave a glowing review, but then suddenly the litter that started arriving regularly from Amazon was the same bag, but the contents seem to have cheapened. This litter is now almost as dusty as the stuff I used to use, and this is a huge problem. The minimal tracking qualities of this litter has also shifted, and where I could do little easy spot cleanups daily as I cleaned the boxes, I now have to vacuum every other day as this stuff is all over the house (it's not pleasant to find it UNDER the fitted sheet on a bed, since the cats love to get on the bed before it gets made when we change the sheets/blankets).The odor control is no longer 'control' but more like 'non-existent'. Typically, we don't have odor issues, as again, I clean these boxes daily without fail (and if I don't, someone else does... it has to happen daily with this many cats or it does become a problem). Lately though, it's getting unpleasant. Keep in mind, once per month, I completely change the litter out and scrub/wash the boxes thoroughly, so it's not any kind of build-up. We've always surprised visitors to our home who exclaim there's no way they'd ever know we had five cats because there's never been cat box odor before... this is no longer true.I'm not sure what happened over the course of the last six months or so, but the quality of this litter is no better than the rest. I would absolutely LOVE to give four or five stars, but I'm now starting to shop for other brands. It doesn't help that Amazon has now pulled the product from their own shelves to investigate issues (though those issues might be packaging/delivery issues, of which I've never had a single problem) that customers are having. If the mfg of this product reads this, please, please fix whatever you've done to Precious Cat litter and give me the quality product that I have been buying exclusively for almost a year. I hate having to shop for different litter, and the cats aren't very keen about it either.
Crappy beach sand
December 31, 2013
Current ReviewIf the price had stayed at $13.10 for the 40lb I'd have upped the star rating some. I was forced to buy another bag of this through Amazon because I was down sick and they'd deliver this. Seems like it's a bit of a crap shoot with this brand, because this time it worked a little bit better, but it still tracks like crazy. If your cat steps in any wet area, he's then got a dried cling mess between his pads. So as he sits on the bathroom vanity I clean his paws. I do like that they'll deliver this, but for the price of now almost $17 I'd rather buy Scoop Away. Yeah, I know it's only $4 difference.Old ReviewAm changing my review because the product changed. I ordered a bag last month from Amazon and it was as good as my prior review said. My newest order they changed the formula to this tiny granulated stuff that looks frankly like crappy beach sand and works just about as poorly. Will being going back to Scoop Away - that became my favorite once this was harder to find. Still is now.Oldest ReviewI'd bought and been using the new Featherlight cat litter from Tidy Cat. I liked it and my cat didn't mind it, but I saw it was sticking badly in between his toes... like to where I couldn't get it out without causing him discomfort. What was coming loose was tracking pellets all over my carpet rooms away. SO! Doing what I do when I need a good suggestion, I did a generic search for cat litter and then picked the right 'department' and selected my search results to come up with 'highest customer rating'. Then I took YOUR advice, reviewers.Zero dust. Clumps incredibly tightly which allows you to get out the urine areas without having to push it around and touch the 'clean' litter. As for people who complain that you can still smell the poop... here's the scoop. Poop smells, hence it being called 'poop' as in 'poopy'. Scoop it and don't just leave it sit in the box for days on end. All I know is that with little effort ... and my cat drinks a TON of water because I think he has kidney issues ... the box has zip of an odor after you've done your part. My cat's opinion speaks for itself. He used to refuse to leave the box until he pushed and kicked and whatall in there for a solid 3 minutes (which is fun to listen to in the middle of the night). Now? He does his deal, I hear a couple of digs to cover and he's out of there. He also no longer runs charging from the litter box afterwards like his butt's on fire!Thank you Precious Cat. Your now very loyal customer and cat.

We are very disappointed in these Liter Genie units
September 10, 2017
We are very disappointed in these Liter Genie units. They are so flimsy in comparison to the ones from the past. Everything bends & moves around when you are attempting to use them. Actually one of them had come all apart during shipping I think. The various parts & pieces were laying in the bottom of the box. I would give it a one rating but I don't like the word that accompanies it. At any rate no I can't recommend these and since they are used I won't return them but I will return to using the old method of liter removal. They were also supposed to be the darker gray to better match the litter boxes and they are light gray instead. We will not be replacing them either. A plastic bag is more substantial than these flimsy items.
While this is a great concept, the bag cutter doesn't work well at ...
July 31, 2017
While this is a great concept, the bag cutter doesn't work well at all. We struggle with it every time.If you buy this make sure the bottom of the bag is tied off REALLY well! We had the knot in one bag come undone as my daughter was taking it out to the trash. Thank goodness this happened over our hard bathroom floor and not on the carpet. It was a huge disgusting mess to clean up.
Not impressed.
July 5, 2017
First impressions (more later): Not impressed in quality of construction. Flimsy and the top and bottom don't fit together well. Side holder for scoop gets in the way of closing the top and bottom and won't stay on. Loading bags is awkward. The proof will be in the poop.
Okay..broke really easily
March 17, 2017
Love the product but as soon as I assembled it and started using it the piece that slides in to the top broke off so now the cover won't stay on when I open it! Love the the idea of this but wish it wouldn't have broke so quick. I will continue to use this because its really handy.
Compact and nice looking but not practical
July 11, 2016
Two stars for the product concept and quality. If you have big cats, it's not suitable, the opening is too small for the litter to pass, I have a four months kitten,so it will last a while. I use wood pellets as litter, the urine will turn to dust at the bottom, I only need to scoop the solid, if you use regular litter, it might drive you crazy, try to push the big clumps down, and you need to clean the opening everyday, if not, it really smell. I saw the Litter Genie wipes at local store, that's for this purpose.I kept it at the upstairs bathroom for that litter box, but I turn to old fashion way, scoop and bag it for the downstairs box, I have no confidence to carry this genie around too much, accidents might happen.Good concept for apartment or smaller home, it will save trip to the dumpster, but in noway it will hold two weeks waste, even you have a kitten.Amazon have good price, so it won't break the bank to try, probably not buy the refill, just scoop and bag everyday.
Difficult to use
January 1, 2015
I had high hopes for this product. Unfortunately I found it cumbersome to use. Scooping the litter and placing it in the container was easy enough but then you need to pull the latch open in order for the soiled litter to fall into the sealed container. The latch is difficult to open and requires a two handed operation (you need to hold the unit down firmly with one hand while pulling the latch open with the other). Even while doing this the latch took some effort to get open. The unit does seal the litter well and eliminates odor. But after a while you need to empty the bag and again this was not that easy to do. The included cutter did not work properly and I needed to use scissors to cut the bag. Once you remove the dirty bag, you then need to pull down more of the plastic bag and tie it off to begin collecting more litter. After a week or so of use I decided all of this was more work than it was worth and returned to my old method of scooping litter (I keep a garbage bag in the garage for the litter and discard it often to eliminate odors).

Has some problems and probably is not worth its cost
September 18, 2017
The cats use it and seem to like it, but right off the bat, I noticed several issues with it.

1: The door does not really function well if you have larger cats and I had to take it off.
2: The locking sliding handles on the sides not only come off easily but also are poorly made and the plastic parts hang up when removing or attaching the lid.
3: The door is wide which is great, but because of the angle of the front it's easy for the cat pee to splash out the front (even with the door attached).

While the cats use it and it functions, the design issues above make it not worth its cost at all, and force the cleaning of messes that we never had with the previous cat litter pans we have used.
I wasn't sure if it was used or not since it was in pretty good condition
August 16, 2017
When I opened my package, the litter box had an acidic smell. My first instinct was that it was used and I might have been smelling urine. I wasn't sure if it was used or not since it was in pretty good condition. So, I decided to clean it. I let it soak in my bath tub, scrubbed it, and let it air dry outside. After all that, I could still smell the stench, although it wasn't as strong. I am returning the item, and am hoping the replacement is great. The functionality of the litter box seems awesome. I'm really trying to make this work. I'll write an update when the replacement arrives.

***UPDATE***
I received my replacement! It didn't smell awful, thank goodness. I wasn't happy with it though. The door is off-centered. When it swings, it gets caught on the side. I'm worried that my cat might get stuck in it when I'm not home. I'm going to return it and request another replacement. Hopefully, the NEXT,NEXT one will work out. I'm bumping this down from two stars to one star for now.

*** THIRD UPDATE ***
I finally have a litter box that works! My cat seems to really like it too. Before this, I didn't have a hooded litter box. My cat would kick out the litter everywhere. This really helps keep most of it in the box. The downside to the hooded box is that it traps the box gets really stinky, really fast. I'm not sure if it's the fact that it is hooded, or if the plastic is absorbing the smell. I clean the litter box multiple times a day. So, I'm not sure what it is, but it smells more than a regular liter pan. I started washing the box every 1.5 weeks with Urine-Off. This isn't the best litter box, but not bad for only $23. The company needs to do better quality control. It looks like I'm or the only one who has had issues.
Disappointed
January 2, 2017
Works okay... but the plastic latches on the side used for securing the top don't stay on and kept coming off. Very annoying. So I just gave up...and took the latches off completely. Obviously, since it was used (yuck), I couldn't return it.
Great for 18 months or so
April 26, 2015
Great size litter pan. The cat loves to use it. The problem is the hood.

The latches that connect to the base do not hold. Less than two years later I have to pick it up by the base. If I pick it up by the handle then the pan falls out spilling litter.

Stronger latches connecting the hood to the base would have made this a winner. I will have to look for another one now. Otherwise, I have to strain to pick up by the base as long as I have it.
Originally a positive review....
December 19, 2014
I originally posted a positive review of this product. If you have a large cat or several cats, it works beautifully and we replace the pan at least once every six months. This time I ordered the cat pan, not only was it thrown into a way oversized box with the other things we had ordered at the same time without any padding or a way to secure it, it was missing a handle for one of the side locks (that lock the top to the bottom) and the filter at the top. I used the parts from the old cat box to fit on this one but apparently from other reviews amazon has gone downhill a bit. I will be looking for another cat box possibly from another website when it is time to change it out.
Not happy with it
April 7, 2014
I just tossed the cover in the trash. First day with it and one of my cats was fixated on the carbon filter and just kept tearing it off the top and tearing it to shreds. I had purchased extra filters, so I wasn't too worried, thinking he'd get over it and forget it was there. Didn't happen. One of my other cats was afraid to go in the door, so she would urinate outside the box unless I remembered to keep the door open. So far two reasons to keep the door open and it was defeating the purpose of having a filter since when up, the door covers the filter. This just didn't work out for me and now I'm left with exactly what I started with before ordering, a huge open litter box. Oh well, more power to all you people who love it. I really wanted to love it. The 2 stars I gave this are due to the large size of the box, which was just as expected.

SCAMMING AMAZON CUSTOMERS
May 27, 2017
It's true, it's not the same as it used to be. I've been using this litter from Amazon since the beginning of this year when I adopted a kitten. My kitten and I have had no problem with it until now. The most recent bag was delivered less than a month ago - it is dusty, sticks like glue, and does not control odor. I think it also caused my kitten to be extremely itchy, she has been scratching herself like crazy lately.I bought a another bag of this same litter at Pet360 and compared it with the one from Amazon, they were almost entirely different from each other. The litter from Pet360 is of the same superb quality that I was used to. It is a shade darker than the one from Amazon, not dusty, clumps really well, not sticky, and controls odor.I feel like this company is selling the good quality litter to the other stores and selling the subpar litter to Amazon customers to cut some costs. Amazon doesn't check on the quality of the products it's sending out due to the massive inventory / volume of sales and this particular product already has high ratings so this company can cut some costs and sell the bad quality litter through Amazon every now and then. If somebody noticed the bad quality, they can chuck it to being a "bad batch". Read through the comments, this is a trend.
Same old bulls***
November 30, 2016
Don't believe all the hype about this cat litter. Works just like all the other crap from the grocery store. Didn't work any different and clumps on the bottom no matter how much you have in it. When I did put tons in like their special directions, my cats were so high they kept pissing over the edge and my box is 8" tall.
Disappointed :(
November 7, 2016
I've always used Fresh Step and everything I have tried can never compare. I found that this litter tracked a lot more in my house than other brands. The clay was also very lumpy, some of it not broken up. The tracked litter hurts a lot more to step on it barefooted than any other brand, think LEGOS! It didn't stick to the feces. It doesn't coat it at all. And because the grains were so coarse, it busted through my litter disposal bags. It was a decent price and had great claims, but unfortunately, it didn't live up to my expectations.
Different formula? Totally gooey and sticks to everything!
August 22, 2016
I used to love this kitty litter and used it for years. Not sure if they changed the formula, but it's awful now. I scoop 2-3 times a day and the urine is caked onto the bottom of the litter box, even though I have a good 3-4 inches deep of litter in there. It turns to a gooey, sticky, glue-like consistency and is nearly impossible to scrape off of the bottom and sides of the litter box. When I finally scrape all of the gooey clumps off, they break apart. Good clumping kitty litter should produce tight, dense little clumps that are easily scooped up. That's how I remembered this litter from a few years back. But I ordered it just last month and it was definitely not like this at all.
Was great until they changed the formula
September 14, 2015
Update: I emailed the Precious Cat people and asked why they changed their formula. They replied within a day (!) and said they hadn't modified the formula but where having an issue with the supplier of the clay. I have on more bag of litter and will probably run out in a couple months, then will try another bag to see if the dust problem has been solved. I'll update my review after that.I loved this litter until about a year ago. Before that it was truly dustless and I could keep it in my cat box for almost a month without any smell. Then something changed and it is now so dusty that I don't like to breath when I'm cleaning the box. My room where the cat boxes are is covered in a fine white dust. I wish they would go back to the original formula but the dust is so bad that I am looking for a new litter.
Very disappointed
August 14, 2015
I'm not sure if all the reviews are a scam or not, but I have tried this cat litter, ordering at least 3 times, and all of them failed the superb expectations of the other reviews. This cat litter actually has MORE dust than any that I've tried. Every time I go to clean the litter box, I find myself noticeably trying to avoid all the dust. Not only that, but this litter has zero odor control. At first, I thought it was just a bad batch that I got. But I've ordered a few times now, over many months, and I think it's getting worst. I'm not sure how anyone can rate this a good litter. I order hundreds of products on Amazon, and I don't believe all the reviews, but this is the first time that I've seen such inconsistency with the product and the reviews that are generated. I feel sorry for my cat at this point.

Disappointment. Cheap plastic.
September 22, 2017
Broken and scratched! I just opened this and the top was all scratched. No big deal, it goes by the litter box but the button that keeps the bottom shut does not work and their is a spring rolling around in the bottom of the pail. Requesting refund.
Ehh
September 20, 2017
More effort then it's worth great ideas just doesn't work well doesn't stay closed and my cat like to jump on it and knock it over just keep scooping it and taking it out not worth it
Buy a Tupperware container instead
July 3, 2017
This is an ok product and the concept is cool. But it still gets stinky and the bags are outrageously expensive. I found that using a Tupperware container with a grocery store produce bag works much better. It takes up less space, no need to purchase expensive bags, and you can't even smell it. Plus, it is much easier to keep this container clean.
I LOVE my original Litter Genie
March 14, 2017
Litter Genie Plus is not an upgrade - the design is flawed, and it is almost unusable. I LOVE my original Litter Genie, and I ordered a second one (the Litter Genie Plus) so I could have one at each litter box. The Plus is a mess - the top doesn't stay connected to the bottom if you try to move it, and the sliding latch is cumbersome and gets stuck. Definitely buy the original. Definitely do NOT buy the plus.
Returning item, it is defective
December 30, 2016
Item is defective and unusable. Item falls apart when you try to use it
POOR FIT AND FINISH ON LATCH AND JUNK
December 10, 2015
This is absolutely the biggest waste of money! I have ordered several and they don't fit together well with the closure and end up with a mess. I order a lot of my things online as I live quite a distance from shopping malls and such and just easier and frequently cost saving but the design is decent but the item is flimsy and quality in fit and finish is poor. I have thrown away at least (4) of these and would discourage anyone from wasting their money and time cleaning up the litter.

It was so bad, that the door would get stuck if ever ...
September 20, 2017
We used to own this exact litter box but purchased it from Pet-smart. We threw away the old one because we moved and needed a smaller one to keep in the SUV with the cats. Ecstatic, we found that Amazon offered the same litter box for Prime, so we ordered right away. The first one came back damaged (presumably from transit/storage) so no biggie, requested an exchange no problem. The second arrived with a massive amount of warping around the door. It was so bad, that the door would get stuck if ever closed, thus trapping any cat inside. The thing is, with both litter boxes, the quality of the plastic felt much thinner and cheaper than the old one we bought at Pet-smart. I don't know if Catit decided to change their formula, or if this is just a rip off Chinese brand. Extremely disappointing.
cheap and poorly made
March 28, 2017
One of these was broken when I got it. The bottom was cracked in several places it's on the way back to Amazon soon as the USPS carrier picks it up . Wish I had known how cheap and poorly made these things were . Noted that the top and bottom did no close satisfactorily. Never again.
Missing part
January 19, 2017
This arrived a day later than expected (which isn't a huge deal). What is an issue to me is the fact that one of the four clasps that hold the litter box is missing. I spent quite a bit on what I assumed would give my cats a nice place to do their business, and now I'm regretting choosing this litter box. Beware if you do order this, it may not come with all of the NECESSARY parts!
Wasnt just right
October 12, 2016
I liked the size but I cant get liners that fit and the lid falls off. I have just a storeage tote with a hole cut out for s litrer box now, its big enough without a lid but I dont need liners.
The door would stick occasionally but never so bad the cat couldn't get in or out
February 9, 2015
Seemed to work well for the first couple of months. The door would stick occasionally but never so bad the cat couldn't get in or out. Now the top section must be warped/bent, because the door constantly gets completely stuck, to the point of trapping the cat inside. Unfortunately, I'm just outside my return window, so for now we've just removed the door part completely, making the tons of charcoal filters we ordered worthless.
