~~ PERFECT for a 5lb bag of flour! ~~
October 12, 2017
Measuring in at approximately 9 5/8" high, 9 1/4" deep and 4 1/8" wide this so called CEREAL container is perfect for 5lbs of FLOUR! Keeping a wide variety of flours in our food supplies I was looking for containers that would fit in my refrigerator without wasting too much space. I purchased three of these and they are PERFECT for our needs!Due to us using these for flour I ALWAYS remove the entire lid when removing the contents as I am either wanting a whole cup or half a cup. I have had no issues with the side flaps coming off or going back on. A definite keeper in our house! Why keep flour in the fridge? I don't want it to go rancid as we purchase ground WHOLE grains, normally in 5lb bags. (If I had room in my freezer I would store it in there.) A 5lb bag of flour just fits in one of these containers. I purchased this at the full prevailing price. I was not required to write a review but chose to do so. Thanks, Liz
This is a great size butter dish
August 14, 2017
This is a great size butter dish. You can easily store 2 sticks of butter. It has a lock on each side which snaps very easy. It has an airtight lid which seals out any outside odors from refrigerator. Has a nice slicing chart you can use to measure your slicing that was a big plus. Will be ordering more of this brands other functional items.
What is good about this one
July 21, 2017
Rated again #1 from Americas Test Kitchen. In order to keep butter fresh and not go rancid, it needs to be air tight. Which I didn't know because I only kept mine in a ceramic butter dish. What is good about this one, it holds the solid one pound blocks of butter. With all the butter dishes out there, this one is the cheapest! go figure. You won't be disappointed.

Very nice! My new fridge doesn't have a butter slot and I like my sticks to be protected from other smells. It can hold 3-4 sticks tightly, if you remove the tray.
Great butter keeper/holder/dish!

These are great butter keepers! keep butter fresh and protected from fridge odors and great if wanting to leave butter out to soften.Easily holds two east coast size sticks of butter or European half pound block.
Nice item. Holds 2 sticks of butter
August 27, 2016
Nice item. Holds 2 sticks of butter. It would be nice if it were bigger, but I have a Butter Boat for one Stick and a One Click Butter cutter for 1 stick so no sticks are left unprotected. lol Would recommend.

There is nothing like having soft butter to spread on your toast. I've used mine for years and now I give as gifts to butter users. Very old fashion method of keeping fresh spreadable butter.
Great Product
July 12, 2017
Best price. I have paid $30 for like products. I have given these to all my children and as wedding and Christmas gifts. They keep the butter fresh and are so much more sanitary.
Does EXACTLY what it says it will. Who woulda thought?
November 21, 2016
I've wanted one of these for a long time but never thought it was worth the 25.00 - 35.00 that I've seen them priced at. Then I happened to find this one on line. 12.00! And it works perfectly! No more torn bread or rolls!
A Must For Anyone Who Likes Soft Spreadable Butter
May 14, 2015
A butter bell is one of those things I will think of getting every so often (I had one ages ago), but then forget about it..........until I see one at a specialty store.....for $50....and I just can't see spending $50 for a butter container! I saw this one on Amazon, the price was right, and I've been very happy with it. I have a 'thing' about hard butter....as in I don't like it.....so a butter bell is the perfect solution for anyone who wants fresh creamy butter. The butter holder is a generous size and it's easy to clean. If you do get one, always make sure to change the water in the base every 2-3 days..........and if you plan on going away, put it in the fridge - don't leave it out on the counter --- we went away for a week. and it was mold city when we came back...completely forgot about the butter bell before we left! Great product - great price - I'd recommend.

Nice unit. Hadn't seen one of these in decades and wonder why lost their popularity. Great way to save butter without worrying about bugs and dust and dirt getting into your butter while being kept on the countertop. My wife had never heard of these before and she loves it. She's thinking it would be a great Christmas gift for friends next year.
real butter not fake spreads
November 2, 2012
When looking for a natural alternative to the unhealthy butter like spreads it dawned on me, "what's more like butter than butter?" And of course butter is a natural product nothing added except maybe salt. I searched for a crock or butter bell and the Norpro had a basic design and a low price. I used my Cricut and some vinyl to embellish the exterior. It holds one whole stick (1/2 cup) of butter at a time. I live in Georgia and was worried about the warm air melting it. The butter does stay soft and has fallen out once or twice but I'm not sure if that was environmental or User error. We also learned not to put new butter on top of old butter - we got mold. I have seen mold in the water but change it every few days and started using one drop of Nutribiotic - Gse Liquid Concentrate, 2 fl oz liquid every time I change the water. We no longer have any mold and can spread fresh butter on any bread without lousy hydrogenated substitutes! My heart valves thank you Norpro.*update 7/18/14 * ~I still love this little butter keeper!

August 19, 2017
This food storage is used for a 3.5 pound bag of kitty food. It keeps the food fresh, and the opening is just the right size from which to pour the food. I like that the flip lid locks into the open position when you open it. Washed easily in the dishwasher. The snap locks are sturdy. Overall, does the job it is designed to do.
Very nice design

I use this all the time to store my butter. Really like the width of it. I can store one wider cube or two regular cubes - salt d and unsalted.
Good but pricey for size.

Cheap, basic, and functional

Great for the price. Exactly what I needed, fast shipping. Only issue is the lip used to pull the dish out of the water is quite small; would be much easier to remove if the lip were larger to enhance grip.

April 10, 2017
There's a few blemishes on the crock itself, and a crack inside of it, but it don't effect it's function at all. It's handy having room temperature butter when I need it since I bake so often. If you're using a regular stick of butter I suggest getting the butter to room premature before you try to install it into the bell or else it'll just fall right out.
You have to put in spreadable butter to start (aka warm the butter first) so it's not like you can grab the butter from the frig
July 27, 2015
I bought this as a gift for someone who mentioned they wanted one of these. The instructions were a little hard to follow and it doesn't seem worth the effort to use it.You have to put in spreadable butter to start (aka warm the butter first) so it's not like you can grab the butter from the frig and your ready to go. This makes it a bit of a hassle. It's a nice solid material and it works after you put the effort in. I like the white color as it matches almost anything. I wouldn't buy one of these for myself though. Guess I will only have lovly spreadable butter when I visit the inlaws.
It is keeping my butter at an excellent spreading consistency
June 21, 2015
I've never had one of these Butter"Bells" before so I didn't quite know what to expect. It is keeping my butter at an excellent spreading consistency. The base and the bell-lid don't fit perfectly and it's a bit difficult to figure out how much water to put in it but I think I'm getting the idea. Maybe transparency would be good but then it might not keep the butter cool enough. Watch for dripping water when you remove the bell. I did have to return the first one because of a crack in the base but all in all I would order from this company again.

Good Idea--Adequate Performance--Poor Customer Service
February 16, 2017
I've been using this product for about two months now and I wanted to give it 5-stars. As designed, the product would provide a sealed environment in which to store two sticks of butter in such a convenient manner. However, within a few weeks of daily use, one of the "locks" on the long side of the rectangle does not fully "lock". After thoroughly cleaning and careful use, it still would not "lock" fully. On January 13, 2017, I contacted the manufacturer asking for advice on the situation. As of today (February 15, 2017), I have not had the courtesy of a reply. On February 13, 2017, I received an email from Langton Distribution, the distributor of the product, asking if I would post a review. When I described my situation, their response was that they could not authorize a return since the returns period had expired. So, there you have it; perhaps I should have just requested a return or replacement immediately as opposed to my attempt to determine if this was "user error" or if the manufacturer was interested in this problem, as I have found to be the case with other manufacturers of various products. One additional note: the bottom "shelf" is difficult toremove for cleaning.

January 19, 2017

March 17, 2016
Much bigger than need be for a single stick of butter, but not quite big enough for a full pound, it seems this could have been better planned. But it seals well and looks good.
Well made but BIG
March 7, 2016
It's a lot bigger than it seems in the picture. We call it the "monster butter dish."
The product is made of good solid plastic and seems to have a good seal
November 28, 2015
The directions are apparently in Vietnamese since that's where it's made. I hope there's nothing in them that's important for me to know. The product is made of good solid plastic and seems to have a good seal. They included a label to put on the container to write in the freshness date, but you need acetone to erase it for the next date. Don't know about you, but I don't keep acetone around the house and don't plan to, so that's a wasted good idea. Other than that, it will do the job I wanted it to.
Nice but a bit to large
June 23, 2014
Purchased container to hold butter in the butter compartment of my refrigerator. It's a good Lock & Lock container but it's to large for the refrigerator butter compartment, it doesn't fit. I'll use it for other storage but not for butter.

Tub is not round
September 15, 2017
The round isn't quite "round" and is more oblong. This makes it difficult to place the top part into the bottom part or to remove when needed. I am considering returning and buying a different brand. I recall king Arthur online shop had a nice one that lasted me years until it was broken accidentally.

August 18, 2017
The item came chipped. There weren't any pieces of the chipped part in the box, so it tells me someone knew it was chipped, yet they still sent it to a customer. Otherwise, the item works. It stays soft outside of the fridge for three days, then change the water in the basin. If you don't use it, mold will grow. So, if you know you don't need soft butter stick it in the fridge.
Butter keeps falling out of the top.
July 3, 2017
I find the butter keeps falling down into the water. Maybe I am not packing the butter into the top part properly. My sister turned me onto this type of butter keeper and couple years ago. She doesn't seem to have any issues the style she owns.

May 21, 2017
Very well made & great price. It's just kind of awkward for me with the round part on the bottom & the other piece sitting on top of it. You have to make sure you grab the bottom part first so you won't drop & break it.
The only reason I gave it more than one star is maybe someone else has a better way, but I DID follow instructions
April 26, 2016
I guess I hadn't thought of gravity. This gadget is well made and probably works somewhat ok for some people. I filled the cup end with semi soft butter and packed it in, did the water thing too and set it on the counter. The next morning when I removed the top, the butter contents stayed in the cup with the water. So, that's the end of that. The only reason I gave it more than one star is maybe someone else has a better way, but I DID follow instructions.
Didn't really do it for me.
January 6, 2015
This got good reviews but I was disappointed in this item and in myself. I've never had trouble with moldy butter here in upstate NY- perhaps that's a problem in warmer climates. But I've been buying grass fed butter from a coop that comes scooped into a plastic quart container and I wanted something nice looking to put on the table and was intrigued by this concept. I tried repeatedly packing the butter into the tub but it fell out each time I tried to use it! Now I am using it upside down from its intended use- I didn't need the water trap anyway. It looks fine on the table that way but in retrospect a covered sugar bowl could have served the same purpose for less expense.

A Waste of money! Stick with an old fashioned butter bell for soft butter or use an inexpensive rectangular plastic container!
October 13, 2017
Overall this butter keeper is sturdy and locks tightly, BUT. . .there are 2 big design problems! 1) the butter keeper has 3 parts, top, bottom and an inner flat plastic piece the butter sits on. Unfortunately the piece the butter sits on does not lock into the base and a cube of butter is not heavy enough to hold the piece in the base. This means that when the top is removed, the section your butter is sitting on can slide around . . . onto the floor!2) The section the butter sits on is faintly marked in 8 Tablespoon sections...however the markings do not come close to matching any US standard sized cube of butter. I am referring to cubes of butter by brands such as Tillamook, Darigold or any other US brand available in grocery stores. They are uniformly sized to measures 3 1/4" x 1 5/8" x 1 1/2" with wrappings that are marked to allow measuring & cutting in various amounts including (8) Tablespoons. If you use Imperial Margarine, the base will closely match their cubes size and markings.3) The markings cannot be read easily. . . even if the they did match the size of the cube, the marks appear to be imprinted/pressed into the clear plastic all three pieces are made from. It would be fairly simple to mark the underside for easy readability. This was reviewed by America's Test Kitchen and given their highest rating. I am very disappointed in America's Test Kitchen reviewers as well as this product & company. I will stick with an old fashioned butter bell for my soft butter and an appropriately size inexpensive rectangular plastic container for the cubes that I measure & cut from!

Bulky, not necessarily what I thought I was getting. I'll just keep my eggs in the regular containers.
Egg cartons with rubber bands work better
February 7, 2017
I got these to transport eggs to our weekend cabin, however I have had breakage. I've found using the original egg carton and a set of rubber bands is much more effective at transporting without breakage.
Wrong size butter
December 12, 2016
This sounds convenient until you discover that the pre-measured marks for cutting tablespoons of butter are for the longer-style sticks of butter, not the shorter/fatter sticks sold here.
Not what I expected
January 19, 2016
Doesn't really do much and risky due to water/condensation that stays in the bottom of the little cups. Letting the eggs cool doesn't really help either.

I could not get a good grasp on the top to comfortably pull the bell ...
May 28, 2017
The item received was unfinished on the lid grabber and had some cosmetic defects there and around the lip. It seemed smaller in the pictures, but I didn't measure. I could not get a good grasp on the top to comfortably pull the bell out. Too bad because for the price it seemed okay.
Don't buy
May 9, 2017
Spend a couple of dollars more and buy a better quality Butter Bell. As others have reported, the base on the container that holds the butter is too short and it is difficult to remove from the storage container. I also experienced mold in this Butter Bell and I have never had that problem with two others that I own.
I don't think this is how it's supposed to work
January 3, 2017
I love butter dishes. Problem is the water seal or something is defective with this one as my butter consistently molds after only one week. My fiance also liked to make fun of me for purchasing technology from the middle ages for butter storage. I guess this is what we have refrigerators for.
Eh -- I've had better
December 27, 2016
I have two butter bells that I use in my home. I bought this one to use at my office. This butter bell doesn't seem to be the same quality as the two more expensive ones I purchased. It may be a design flaw; however, I couldn't tell you what that may be as they appear to be very similar by sight -- except for color and outside decorations, etc.M. Bittner
You get what you pay for.
May 7, 2016
Butter keeper arrived with a crack along the 'handle' of the lid (the same location when inverted for serving, would be in contact with the table top). This same lid lip arrived partially unglazed and I promptly returned it before it had a chance to scratch my table/counter tops. Could be a great product if it was slightly better made, but seriously, what do you expect for $10?
Skip this one and go with a Butter Bell
November 6, 2015
Very thin, compared to the Butter Bell brand. I would recommend paying the extra to get the Butter Bell, which is much heavier. I have both, and much prefer the heavier version. I bought this one to put in my RV, and have since replaced with the Butter Bell.

Worst Lock and Lock item I ever bought!
August 4, 2017
I have tons of Lock and Locks! I use no other containers, so when I needed a butter keeper Lock and Lock was my first choice. However, I've had two defective ones in a row. It may work as a nice small container, but the piece needed to use it as a butter keeper won't stay in the lid as it's supposed to. It just keeps popping up, which leaves the butter sitting at an angle so it's not exactly stable. I don't know if Amazon just got a bad batch because the reviews for it are great. Or maybe it's being stored near a heat source and have become warped. Either way, after two defective ones I'm off on a search for a better butter keeper.
it takes way more room than I would like.

The top does not sit tight so air is getting in causing the butter to mold. There is a crack . Would like a replacement but I gave it as a gift and just found out it is defective but is past by just a few days the 30 day return. I have one and it works great so believe this one is defective . Just need a replacement.
I got what I paid for ... which wasn't much.
February 26, 2014
A friend of mine has a butter crock and I've been coveting it for awhile. But I don't eat much bread and therefore, have little use for butter. But when I saw this one for less than $10, I couldn't resist. I should've known better. The main problem is that the fit between the two halves of the crock isn't tight enough to get a good seal when filled with water. In less than a week, my butter started to get moldy and I just threw the whole thing out.My friend has never had butter go bad in her crock -- which is a more expensive version -- so when I have the extra cash, I'll probably upgrade to a Le Creuset version.
