Here in the deep southern part of Minnesota along the Mississippi River Valley we have gnats, many gnats, and mosquitoes. This stuff works. The bugs still swarm around the head and body making dives for a bite but they seem to glance off without taking a bite. Repel 100 lasts for hours, I am happy to have it and save my sanity including my body because with these genetically modified gnats I swell greatly when I get bit from them. There is a smell not heavy, a bad taste if licking the lips, and its a little oily but absorbs quickly. I am glad at the end of the day to shower it off but I depend on it to save me, I work outside every day.

Repel 100 Insect Repellent is the only bug spray which actually works. I chose this product after Lifehacker users voted this as the number one bug spray; and the hive mind was correct. Be warned, this stuff is almost 100% Deet, so when applying, be sure to avoid open wounds and keep your eyes and mouth closed.I am always the guy who gets destroyed by bugs. I have heard that most of what makes you 'sweet' to mosquitos is genetic, but there are other things you can do to make yourself less attractive to bugs. Drinking beer actually makes you sweeter for them.Repel 100 Insect Repellent is so strong that plastic will melt against your skin. I went for a picnic with my fiance, and we sat down on a plastic mat (like an outside-use table cloth) to avoid the wet grass. The pattern on the plastic table cloth was imbued onto our legs where Repel 100 had been applied.
I didn't get Zika!
July 1, 2016
Repellent worked really well during a recent trip to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. Be sure to adhere to the instructions. The higher the deet percentage, the less effective it is when mixed with water and/or sweat. So, you need to apply it more often if you're in water or sweating a lot. I have sensitive skin and had no problems with this product. I think that by spraying a small amount on areas and then rubbing it in slightly helped also. Be careful when eating, drinking, putting your hands in your mouth/ eyes before washing the repellent off of them.
Pregnant in the Carribean during Zika Virus Scare
April 27, 2016
I went on a cruise to Ochos Rio, Jamaica and Grand Caymen during the height of the Zika Virus scare (04.15.2016-04.22.2016) while 4months pregnant and used this STRONG repellent and had 0 issues. This repellent is strong, it def ate the top clear coat off my nail polish, gave me a small rash on my feet and arms, which I sprayed heavily due to them being exposed. But I definitely would have taken a rash over an insect bite that could have hurt my baby. Also, we went to Dunns River Falls, which is a rain forest like scene near a huge river and while we didn't see many insects and I wasn't in the water, I felt secure with this spray.

October 13, 2014
We used this when we went to Jamaica. If you are going somewhere with mosquitos, you need 99% DEET. You only need a dab on each leg and arm and one on your face and neck. Doesn't require much, but people who had the less concentrated bug brands were eaten up with mosquito bites.
What mosquitoes?
April 10, 2013
Ok. It tells you on the bottle that you shouldnt use it on anything plastic. It will eat it somewhat. Try not to use it on you face if you have sensitive skin. After application WASH YOUR HANDS. It will takes the print of your camera buttons, and if you use the bathroom guys it will make your junk heat up. Girls I wouldn't chance it. That being said I was in Africa on Safari and everyone in the truck around me was getting bit by tsetse flies and mosquitoes. I shared this during lunch and not another bite for anyone the rest of the day. It works like nothing I have used before. All in all I spent a week in mosquitoe country and got one bite when I went 12 hours between applications.

It's DEET
July 8, 2017
pros: It's 98% DEET mosquitoes won't even think of landing on you.cons: It's 98% DEET it's a heavy oil, smells nasty and you definitely don't want any in your eyes or mouth.
Similar to dropping a napalm bomb
December 22, 2016
I took this to the Amazon basin and it worked great! It is very strong so it does have a little bit of a burn and it will melt plastic so be careful with it. I had to reapply it every 2 or 3 hours just because it was so wet there but I took some all natural repellent wristbands and they didn't work at all. Also there where a few bugs it didn't repel, I think they where sand flies. If you are going to a place with a lot of mosquitos and don't want to catch a disease this stuff is great.
Works well enough and does not leave lingering scent or cause skin irritation for MY skin
October 7, 2016
I do camping in the summer and this product works well enough without causing skin irritation on MY skin or leaving a bug-spray smell on clothing or skin all day. I think there are other products that work better, but for what it does WITHOUT leaving a scent or causing personal skin irritiation, I like it.
Works well, may cause skin side effects
August 23, 2016
I bought this mainly because we have very large mosquitoes here with painful bites, as well as the smaller ones that carry diseases. I'd intended to order an oil of lemon eucalyptus bug repellent, but I failed to double-check, so that's on me.The positive: I sprayed it on when I had a couple of gnats on my leg, and they immediately fled. When I went out to dump some kitchen waste in the compost and check the garden, I didn't get a single bite. It was dark out, but even so, I usually get at least one or two. So it works great for that. The (maybe) negative: I've only used it once so far, so I'm not certain this was due to the Repel 100, but by the time I went to wash it off, about an hour after spraying it on, my skin was starting to feel odd--slightly numb and tingly, a bit tight. My skin tends to be sensitive to irritants, and I have nerve issues, so I suppose it's possible that's why. After I use it a few more times and have my spouse do the same (so I get her perspective), I'll amend this review.
Oily, smells like poison, and super effective
July 13, 2016
Pros: Super effective at repelling mosquitoes. I never get bitten when I wear this, and mosquitoes typically love me, so they must really hate this stuff.Cons: Basically smells like you're rubbing paint thinner/poison all over your body. The toxic smell is scarily bad and would make those people who insist on only wearing the ineffective, all-natural repellent cry. It also has a super oily, slimy, and ultimately dirty feel on your skin, which rivals the smell in overall unpleasantness. Disconcertingly, it numbs your tongue and mouth as well, if you accidentally manage to get it there, i.e. by applying to your face and licking your lips. Seems healthy.Side note: Mine arrived with a slow leak, and the bottle exterior and packaging were oily and stinky. But I had to take the repellent on a trip to Panama the very next day, so I didn't have time to exchange it. It now has a designated, stinky/oily, Ziploc freezer bag that it travels everywhere in, which is a nice touch. The repellent is effective enough for defects like this to be tolerated, at least in my case. Conclusion: Loathsome stuff, but it works.
My love, love then hate relationship with this bug repellent.
February 14, 2015
I purchased this for my 3.5 trip to Costa Rica which involved a lot of hiking through forest and in itself Costa Rica is a tropical country which naturally has many bugs/insects. During this time while wearing this repellent I didn't get one bug bite!! I even wore shorts and low socks on my hikes and smiled as I watched other tourist go buy with hundreds of bites. For reference, one day after a hike I went back to the room to shower before dinner as usual, but this one day I decided not to reapply because I hate and was so tired of the awful smell and thought to myself "I'll only be out for 2-3 hours. Boy was that a big mistake! Let's just say that night I was on the menu and discovered at least 15 very itchy bug bites. Proof this stuff is excellent at the job it is intended for. Lesson Learned! Now, why the 4 starts instead of 5? The smell and feel. It is thick, oily, and the smell is toxic. When applying please, please, please step out of your hotel room or home and spray it in the hallway or other open area. You'll be happy to have the fresh air or else you could get slightly dizzy for a minute. Also, when spraying be sure to aim in an area you and others won't walk because since it is oily the floor will turn into a slip and slide and someone is sure to get hurt. Last, try to keep a bit of distance between you and the spray bottle and hopefully the pump sprays it evenly. Most of my shirts had oily spots which was so disappointing. I mean who dresses up for a night out with a spotty oily shirt?

Good but the spray bottle is cheap and pump brakes before the bottle is empty
August 29, 2017
I liked it was dry and comfortable to wear, problem is with the spray pump. The white plastic piece in the spray cap that actually sprays comes out will fall out of the sprayer. So when you pump the sprayer it just dribbles down the bottle.
Strong DEET, Weak Bottle
April 26, 2017
While the DEET itself seems to keep the bugs at bay, the Repel 100 bottle spray mechanism is of poor quality. I purchased Repel 100 due to the convenient travel size, but often times pressing on the spray mechanism didn't work very well. I had to constantly press hard to get any of the spray out. Additionally, the bottle began to leak after a few days of usage. Note that Repel 100 has a high concentration of DEET, so it ate through and dissolved through some of the plastic that was in my luggage. I had to discard the bottle after barely using it as it was not the safest to keep it around anymore .
Great travel size BUT be warned if traveling international!!!
March 24, 2017
I bought this for a trip to Thailand. While in Thailand I learned the hard way that most of the biting and blood sucking insects have immunity to deet once exposed. Ig you are going international, you are much better off going for a bottle of Skeetolene at a local pharmacy or Soffal Formula Anti Insect Mosquito Repellent Lotion. We had packets of the Soffal in out resort and suddenly the sandflys and mosquitos had absolutely no interest. We use the remaining deet to spray under the beach mats before laying them down to keep the parameter generally knat free, so it wasn't a total waste.
it can reallllyy suck. Its a hard catch-22 though
November 20, 2016
It does its job but be careful using this stuff on your face. It reacts with sun and water (especially if you are also using sunblock) and can cause these mild chemical burns. If you have acne prone skin on top of that, it can reallllyy suck. Its a hard catch-22 though. I was in the jungle in Puerto Rico and if I didn't use the stuff I got eaten up but if I did my skin had a bad reaction. To be expected with a chemical this strong though. Apparently it's illegal to have this strength of DEET in a lot of countries. Really powerful stuff.
Mixed feelings about this product.
March 15, 2016
First of all, I have to say that the bug protection worked nicely. I purchased this for a 2 week trip to Puerto Rico during the Zika outbreak. I was very concerned and got this because of the high deet content. After two weeks of wearing shorts and bathing suits and visiting beaches, rain forest and high brush, I had very few bites. I came home Zika free! Now, with that said, I didn't like the greasy feel on my skin. It felt like suntan oil. Also, I had my nails done for the trip and whatever chemicals it has in it, ruined my manicure. It dulled my polish.
Awkward burning sensation, but no bites...
August 11, 2014
I should have done my research, according to the travel nurse anything over 60% is overkill and doesn't protect you any more than the lesser concentrations. 100% DEEt makes my skin feel as though it's burning and ate through the plastic on my fitbit tracker, leaving it quite gummy. However, I was in Haiti and didn't get bit by any mosquitos and didn't contract Chickungunya soooooo, overall this worked well. In the future, I'd get more of the 3M Deet lotion http://smile.amazon.com/3M-Ultrathon-Insect-Repellent-2-Ounce/dp/B004LA5SUC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1407785412&sr=8-1&keywords=3m+deet as it didn't cause burning and the travel nurse has told me it doesn't get absorbed into your skin as much, but sits on the top.I travel extensively and use a ton of these types of products.

Not worth the hassle of oil mess
July 23, 2017
I liked how it was small and the cap was sturdy. I hated the oil feeling when putting it on because one has to spread it with your hand over body part. Then you got to spray again and now the bottle is slippery and oily. One big cycle of pain in the butt. I mean baby oil feeling of slickness, so I had to wash the bottle and my hands after using it or I could not carry it with me in my bag. UGH! Purchase something else.
Not too effective against Tsetse Flies in the Serengeti
July 11, 2017
I bought this for a trip to Africa, and I figured I'd have plenty of opportunities there to use it. Fortunately, I was wrong about that and I didn't encounter that many flying insects during my trip. However, the worst encounters we had were in the Serengeti with the Tsetse Flies. Those things are everywhere, and their bite gives you quite the sting! In the safari truck with the top open, they were flying all over the place and so after the first day I decided to put this on. I did that two days in a row, and I have to say there was really no difference. I still had the flies land on me and try and bite me through my clothes and even where I put the spray. I was hoping this would give me a feeling of protection but I stopped putting it on after a few days because it really didn't do much.I'm sure for mosquitos and such it does well, and I have to say it wasn't nearly as oily and gross as I expected from the reviews (just a smelly bug spray), but for this purpose it wasn't too effective.
It works, but....
June 22, 2017
100% deet insect repellant definitely works for mosquitoes and ticks but it isn't going to help protect the box. Due to the excessive rains this spring the ticks and mosquitoes in Wisconsin are exceptionally bad this year. I could smell repellant when I picked the box up off the porch. Two of the six bottles leaked in the box leaving a greasy mess in/on the box/bottles. The labels peeled off 3 of the bottles from leaking repellant and ink from the labels smeared on whatever they touched including my hands, other bottles, counters, etc. If I didn't need the stuff for the upcoming weekend I would return it.Does the product work..Yes. Did I need the mess...No
Bottle Leaks Everywhere
June 19, 2017
This stuff somehow leaks all over the place. It has completely wiped away all of the ink on the front and back, and leaked out all over the interior of my backpack. As an insect repellent it works fine, which is why it at least gets two stars. But the useless container ruins any value it might have and I'm back to having to find another solution.
but this is like putting on a slick layer of oil
June 8, 2017
I was hoping for a decent spray, but this is like putting on a slick layer of oil. If it gets on shoes, for example, it can cause changes in some of the texture. If it gets on the floor, look out, one might slip. To me it is very oily. I regret buying many bottles for an overseas trip
I was eaten alive
April 2, 2017
I was eaten alive in Costa Rica. Ironically, the citrus scented regular bug spray worked best. Even more ironic, my job is to prevent infectious diseases and I was the only one on my trip to get Zika. Maybe this works in regular mosquito populations but definitely not down in Costa Rica. Just saying.

I bought for use in Thailand. I'm not sure if the particular shipment I got was old or what, but this was my leg after the first day. After I used another brand, I didn't have any other problems.
Does not for gnats
September 3, 2015
Does not for gnats, at least in southern Indiana. Smeared it all over my face, and the gnats still got into eyes, nose, mouth, and ears. Can't say about other insects, but gnats, definitely not. My wife has two huge swellings under her eyes from gnat bites after application of this stuff.
Maybe for misquotes but not for flies
June 11, 2015
I bought this to keep biting flies off while working on the farm. It will work for not more than 5 minutes then u have to spray again.. Five minutes is pushing it.
