Great butter crock for the price!
July 31, 2017
It's darker than the picture. Heavy and durable...exactly what I wanted. I love that each piece is carved from it's own piece of stone and no pieces are glued/joined together. This butter crock seems to keep our butter colder that our old ceramic one. Don't forget to use cold filtered water and change it weekly. We use a tablespoon of food grade hydrogen peroxide in the water as well and have never had the butter go bad.

My wife loves this thing. Keeps butter fresh and spreadable. We already bought a few more as gifts.
Works well. Keeps butter softened and fresh on the countertop
January 19, 2017
I love fresh butter for its simplicity of ingredients. Since it needs refrigeration, it is hard to use on delicate breads. This Crock Keeper keeps butter unspoiled on the counter for up to a week. (I haven't had a stick of butter out for longer than this.)It keeps the butter fresh by making a seal at the bottom with 1/4" of water.Handwash. And keep clumsy kids away from this. Marble is fragile when dropped. This is my 3rd crock keeper. The previous two met their untimely demise thanks to my (adult) son.It keeps the butter spreadable, so I have phased margarine out of my pantry.

May 16, 2016
Love it! I bought one for myself & one for a gift. While there are other butter dishes that probably adequately keep out the oxygen to prevent the butter from becoming rancid for a couple of weeks this one looks the best and conceals the messy looking butter. The only other consideration is that you have to let the stick of butter soften before scooping it into this container. If it was a regular butter dish you could just put in a hard stick of butter. I use Kerrygold anyway which has the shape of 2 sticks of butter.
Good buy

Love this butter bell. Most people do not even know what one was. Have had several people at my house ask me about it. Made of marble which is nice. Be sure to add a splash of water and change it every other day. It will keep your butter soft and ready to use.
Marble v. Ceramic Butter Bell ... get this one!
February 25, 2016
Nice product. I had a ceramic butter bell but it broke and I decided to replace it with the marble. It was a good choice...the marble does a much better job of keeping the butter the perfect, spreadable temperature. In the summer, the ceramic one would warm up too much and the butter would be too soft. This seems to keep it a constant temp, no matter what the temperature in the house. I consider it a big improvement over the other one...and a lot harder for me to break as well!

great product.
October 19, 2017
I love, love, love, this butter keeper. It works great. So easy to use and love not having to pre soften my butter. I change the water out every other day with cold water. Never had an issue with it melting or sliding out at all. when it gets low just refill with more butter couldn't be easier. So glad for this purchase.
I love this thing
September 7, 2017
I love this thing, and my butter never went rancid in it. I live in Vegas but keep my house air conditioned 24/7 at about 75F. I leave this thing out on the kitchen counter and switch out the water every few days. Never had to use ice water. I pack the butter real well every time, and clean it out thoroughly every time I have to use a fresh stick. Works great and I have fresh butter every time I have my toast. So worth it!
Better Butter Keeper
August 30, 2017
I bought 2--cannot stand hard butter. I live in South Florida where butter melts if left out on the counter or table. The "Butter Bell" keeps it soft and spreadable without it turning to liquid. Works great and it is attractive. Everyone comments on it.
Soft butter, whenever needed.
April 6, 2017
I'd have never thought to keep butter out on the counter 24/7 until I got this.. The butter stays fresh and soft for spreading. Nite: do remember to change the water every other day. Make sure the cup is totally dry, or the butter may slip out into the water. No harm, just put it back after you dry it all.
Perfect For Gift Giving
January 6, 2017
I love this product so much everyone in my extended family got one! I appreciated the packaging and quality of this product so that I could ensure no one missed getting already soft, fresh butter for their bread. Just an inch of water in the bottom, changed weekly, and the butter lasts a month, or could if it weren't used quickly. I shove a stick into the circle in the lid, ensure the butter's not softened too much first. Very happy with this.

If you like to have spreadable butter for bread this is the item for you. I hate taking cold butter out of the fridge to try and spread on toast or bread. The butter is contained in a recess and stays submerged under water keeping it fresh and soft. I highly recommend this butter keeper.

A good buy.
August 17, 2017
So beautiful and works so good at keeping butter nice and fresh. The only thing is that our marble was a little darker grey than the picture, and it only holds one cube of butter at a time, so I am constantly refilling it.
Great butter keeper
August 16, 2017
I was keeping my butter on the counter but in the summertime it became too soft. Once I put the softened butter in the marble crock and added cold water to bottom and inserted top the butter stays spreadable while not getting too soft. Great butter keeper

YES
January 11, 2016
I like butter to be spreadable, I'm talking about butter. Not margarine or butter whipped with oil, I'm talking about butter. Don't leave this handy gadget somewhere that it will be chilled, the butter won't be spreadable. Change the water, and drop a few grains of salt in every few days. It isn't a gadget we can't live without, but we really like it.

September 9, 2017
I did not know what to expect when I bought this. I just knew the old fashioned glass butter holder we have been using weren't cutting it. I'm loving room temp butter than spreads smoothly. No more worries about ants getting into it, and the water seal assures the butter stays fresh longer.

I have only one complaint: I am barely able to grip the end of the holder. I'm worried about it slipping out of my hand, especially if I get butter on my fingertips!
Flipped it.
August 22, 2017
I tried using this with the water in it for a while, but it's really kind of a pain. So, I've still been using it, just upside down with the handle on the bottom. Works great like that!
Butter falls out
June 13, 2017
Not sure yet. First trial the butter fell right out into water by the next use. You really have to soften it first and container completely dry. Seems OK now. I'm a little worried about butter lasting because my house gets hot all day when I'm at work.
It looks pretty and works well
May 1, 2017
It looks pretty and works well. My only problem with it is that it is quite small. Holds a stick of butter which means if it's almost empty I can't put a new stick in because it won't all fit. I wish it was twice the size.
Great for the Winter Months
April 3, 2017
I like the butter keeper especially in the winter. The butter is soft enough to spread on bread, toast, etc with no tearing of the food. Good product and quality. Very happy with this product!
She said it was one of the best gifts she's ever gotten
February 19, 2017
Over the holidays, while visiting family my niece always kept her butter out to keep it usable. I bought this for her and she loves it. She went out of her way and cooked items for several days, just to use the butter keeper. She said it was one of the best gifts she's ever gotten.
I use one myself and am very happy with it.

Looks great but doesn't work that well
September 18, 2016
I love the way this looks but it definitely does not keep the butter fresh for 30 days. After about 2 weeks mold appears on the butter. (I live in a pretty hot and humid climate) Part of the rim has gotten yellow stains on it from the butter.

September 29, 2015
Works well if you keep if filled....as you empty it, it seems to not get covered by the water as well. Had my butter go rancid after a week and 3 days and I changed the water every other day with fresh refrigerated filtered water...at least it was almost gone. Now I will only keep about 1/2 stick in there at a time.
Jury still out..
November 6, 2014
We had one of these years ago. I stopped using it because we got so much into margarine. However lately we find ourselves going back to Butter more and more. When I first tried it --when I picked up the lid, there sat all the butter, floating in the water. I decided perhaps I had not packed it in well enough so I proceeded to do that. So far so good with that method. It's also very very pretty on my counter.
NOT SO COOL
June 30, 2014
I had a three-piece butter keeper that worked on the same principle, but it was an elongated oval so that a stick of butter fit.I much prefer that configuration. With this round shape you have to let the butter soften and then cram it into the bowl.If anyone knows where I can find the elongated model, please post!
Keeps butter well
July 16, 2013
It does what it says, keeps the butter from going rancid, but it more bother to use than a butter dish.It takes a little bit of trial and error to know how much water to put in the base. If you put too much in, when you lift the cup out of the base, it drips water, so you have to wipe up after using it which is a bit of a pain.I also wish it was slightly bigger to hold a full 1/4 stick of butter. The marble looks nice and matches my marble paper towel holder. It is nicely finished off..no burrs or chips anywhere. Can't complain about the price, either.

Butter doesn't stick in the cup, so falls down ...
August 17, 2017
Butter doesn't stick in the cup, so falls down into bottom of the crock. Not a problem, except for if you're using the water as suggested, which lead to the butter going rancid in a few days (first time that's ever happened). As such would work just as well if it was just a lid.
Soft butter whenever you need it is a good thing
November 10, 2016
The first time I discovered a Butter keeper I was pretty blown away. I never knew this was possible to server butter, and I certainly appreciated and loved how soft the butter was when you need it. I saw one in a friend's house, and the same day I saw it I ordered one for myself. Now, this is where I explain why I only give this three stars. I do not know if it is because my friend has a better branded butter keeper, but I found that with this one, the butter kept falling out of the container. So when we lift the holder, I find the butter sitting in the pool of water. The other thing I noticed is the instructions indicate to fill it with water, but my friend only fills it with enough water to cover the lip of the butter container. Either way, I tried both methods and have found that the butter falls out. So at this point I am not sure if this is because of an inferior product, or if there is something at play here. So over all, I like the idea of it....just not as good in use from this particular one.
Good but...
September 26, 2016
Works good. Shipped good and quick. But I was so excited to use this, and I found out quickly it makes your butter moldy very quick, if you get one Change the water out much more often than instructed. If you have grown up with these then you know that, but I didn't. Wish the instructions mentioned that part.
Okay, but could be better
June 5, 2014
It works, but will not hold up in the really hot weather, i.e., will have to put in the refrigerator during the day since my kitchen is not air conditioned. Even in this moderate May/June weather, the butter can become much too soft ank.d melting within an hour or so. However, when I've taken it out of the fridge, it softens a little more quickly than in other containers, so it's a help. Also, I'd prefer the stoneware to be whiter (it's slightly grayish). Possibly another material (porcelain?) will maintain butter temperature more evenly, but I suspect stoneware would be better at this task.
Almost works perfect
August 12, 2009
This does what it is supposed to in that you put butter in it and place it in water and it keeps it fresher longer. However, the butter has slipped out more than once. This is really annoying. My mother has one that is sloped the opposite way to that the mouth is a smaller diameter. That way, when you press the butter it, it doesn't slip out as easily. I should have thought of that when I was looking to buy one. It works well enough for a reasonable price and free shipping with Amazon Prime.

Butter keeps falling out!
August 31, 2017
Butter does not stay in the container as described even with water. The marble finish is a good look nevertheless. Wished it worked as it is supposed to. Disappointed.
This butter keeper works and looks great, however
August 4, 2017
This butter keeper works and looks great, however, it is most definitely not the white/charcoal marbling shown. It's a very dark gray with black veins. It doesn't match my kitchen at all, so I'm still on the lookout for a different one.
Color greatly varies from photo
March 8, 2017
I am very disappointed in the color of the product. The base color is very dark gray. I know natural materials, such as marble, vary in color and veining but the color of my product is significantly different from the the photographic representation of this item. I have not used it, so I cannot speak to function.

The butter sometimes falls out. If someone has a solution for it,please post it. I do place a small ice cube in instead of water.
Butter keeps falling into the base of the keeper.
June 7, 2014
I received the butter keeper in good condition. I washed it, placed a little bit of water in the bottom part as instructed to keep an air tight seal. No problems the first 2 times of refilling it. Then ever since then, the butter falls from the holder into the water below. Pretty gross. I don't know why it worked ok before and not now. I stopped using it and went back to my regular butter dish until I can find something else.

I don't know if I simply need a better quality item or not
September 7, 2017
I've had this for a while now and must confess that I am not thrilled. The butter keeps falling from the top into the water. I don't know if I simply need a better quality item or not. I have a friend who has a butter crock (different maker) and she is very, very satisfied with it. I've tried adjusting the water level and still end up with the same result. All in all, this has been a disappointment for me.
moldy butter
August 1, 2017
Don't get me wrong the idea is amazing, and my family has used butter keepers for many years, but this one has an issue with sealing or something because my butter always gets a top film of mold within days! I've ran many experiments, different amounts of water to see if the water seal was the problem, cleaned the dishes out every time with soap and water then vinegar and water to make sure it wasn't bacteria from the dish, but the film of mold is on the outermost layer of the butter, first it gets slightly whiter yellow and then comes spots of green.

Also, the ring "handle" you're supposed to pick up the suspended butter part from is not only a very small surface to grab onto but also very slippery, so take extreme care or you'll drop it.

I don't know if my product was a defect but I'm really disappointed.
Really disappointed
June 27, 2017
The directions are horrible so I have no idea how much water you are supposed to add and the butter keeps falling out of the top. I don't know if it just doesn't work or if I'm doing something wrong. Looks nice though and made well.
Appealling design, uniform crazing
January 1, 2017
I really like a classic design, and the size is right. However, the glaze suffers a pattern of hairline cracks all over. Seller denied knowing about this, even though crazing is caused by "a mismatch between the clay and the glaze" according to one seemingly reliable website. The result is that water seeps into the crazed cracks, and possibly. Bacteria, as well...
As got used the butter did fall out..
August 14, 2016
LOL! It does work! Be sure you add water to the bottom. But not too much. Because when we did the butter did fall out of the cup. But besides that this works as it says and is beautiful!

Don't waste your money
October 24, 2017
I LOVED the look of this and the fact it is marble.Boy was I SUCKED IN!I did PRECISELY as directed. My son went to use it and the butter had slid out into the BOTTOM into the water! So I got NEW butter, let it soften as directed and placed COLD water from the fridge in the bottom. When the lid was lifted for use a day later, yep, the butter had PLOPPED into the bottom AGAIN. Next I put NEW softened butter in the top, water in the bottom and placed the whole thing in the fridge for abouut TWO days, then put it in a dark cupboard UNDER the A/C vent....you got it....AGAIN the butter was in the bottom! So, now, we have it turned UPSIDE down on the lid.Maybe if you live in the artic this might work for you, otherwise, DON'T waste your money!
