The only positive was that they can be spreadable direct from the refrigerator. Butter, not so much; and leaving it out to soften is not all that great of an idea either.This little gizmo hold a stick of butter and keeping it inverted in the canister with the water in the bottom to seal it from air lets me keep butter on the counter at room temp without it going bad.Even with this, butter's shelf life at room temp is measured in days. Normally I go through it fast enough that it doesn't have time to go bad. If I go out of town, I just put the jar in the refrigerator then take it back out when I get home. That might be because I was using Irish butter with a high fat content. It would probably work well with regular butter. | Christmas gift failOctober 22, 2016 Bought a couple of these as gifts several years ago but neither party used them for longer than a few weeks. Followed directions perfectly and the butter was just moldy and gross the next day. Maybe it's because we live in the Pacific Northwest and it's a bit more humid?
