A Great Butter Dish that fits perfectly in the Butter section of my Fridge!
September 20, 2017
I just love this butter dish...Yes I'm in love! I love the fact that the top fits well and stays in the right place so that my kids do not smear soft butter all over the sides of the top when putting it back on. I love that it has markings so that I can measure my butter when cooking. I love that I can see thru the plastic and know when I need to buy more butter. I love that it seems to be a sturdy material and if dropped probably wont crack like the last dish I had. The one pound stick fits perfectly and because of the measurement marks I don't have to keep the paper on the stick to measure a tablespoon. I also like that the sides have stoppers to keep the butter from sliding around. It also fits perfectly in the "butter section" on the door of my refrigerator (that is important to me). I love that OXO has a great warranty and customer service department, I have purchased other products from them and contacted them for issues. I know it is just a butter dish but a great one too!
Nice clear top
September 3, 2017
It might seem silly to be excited about a butter dish but it is difficult to get one that checks off all the boxes. This butter dish has great access and I like the clear top. I like that you could wash it in the dishwasher and it appears that it will hold up and stays on the counter very well
Durable, well-made, best butter dish I've found by far
September 2, 2017
Love this butter dish.

Pros:
- Durable plastic, well-made (great for this "butter-fingers" who drops everything......pun intended)
- Raised measurement lines for cutting portions (other butter dishes had painted-on lines that would wash off, these are raised & not painted, so they'll never "wash off")
- Sides of dish are lower so you can cut it easier (other dish are raised on the sides so the knife wouldn't go all the way down to the bottom of the stick of butter)
- Lid sits inside notches so it doesn't get knocked off when you bump it

Cons:
- None that I have found so far
It's not just a butter dish.
October 27, 2016
Okay, okay. I know - it's a butter dish, not a climate controlled, IoT Wi-Fi enabled, WPA2 encryption protected churned cream receptacle or anything, but even the "simple things" in life should be recognized and appreciated when they do something right.

Taking it back for a minute, please allow me to explain what my previous experiences with butter dishes was like before this one came along: basic. About as basic as they can possibly come. A simple, white, ceramic butter dish. Which was fine. It was fine. If you have one now, I'm sure you'll agree: it's fine.

But, now that I've had this one for a little while, I really can't find a reason to ever go back. Because here's what that classic ceramic one doesn't do:

1) Let me know at a simple glance how much butter is inside.
2) Allow me to completely remove the wrapper from the butter and yet still have the ability to know where to cut for an X-Tbsp sized portion
3) Sing to me*.
4) Feature a cover that helps to ensure that when I'm putting the lid back on, I'm not off center enough to smear butter all over the edge and/or inside of it.
5) Offer little ledges that help to ensure the butter doesn't go sliding out of the dish when I'm trying to balance a plate or an armful of dinner rolls in one hand, while clumsily attempting to butter things with the other.

The list goes on (I mean not really, but you get what I'm saying).

My point is: Divorce is an often ugly process, and one that can have serious, long-term, negative effects on all involved. Like when you find yourself in a tiny new apartment with about a tenth of what you once considered were things that belonged to you even though they were admittedly shared. And, how time and time again, while looking for a stick of softened butter to help make that perfect grilled cheese sandwich (as it's become a rather regular option for dinner these days), one shouldn't have to suffer each time they don't find that little, white, basic thing that in all honesty didn't do quite as good of a job as other dishes (like the one reviewed here) probably/should have been doing for the past 5-10 years or so.

So, really, what are you waiting for?

* This butter dish doesn't sing either. It's still awesome, though.

Hope this helps. Please let me know if you have any questions. But seriously, why would you? It's just a butter dish.
Good material

Very clean, comfortable and easy to use. It has the exact size of the butter.

So glad my butter set sail in the boat!
June 7, 2017
I have both the butter bell and the butter boat. I like boat better than the bell, because I don't have to mash a stick of butter into the bell, plus the butter stick sits so nicely in the boat. I also like not having to be submerge the butter in water like you do with the butter bell. Both are great, but I really like this butter boat! Great fresh tasting butter!
Better than the Bells
May 15, 2017
I like this better than the bells holds a whole sick plus more and like that lid fits so good too!
Couldn't be happier and so glad I found this butter dish/keeper

Couldn't be happier and so glad I found this butter dish/keeper!!! Love that it holds a cube of butter without having to mush it in plus keeps it fresh at perfect temperature!!! Thank you for a great product
Fresh soft butter on the spot
December 3, 2014
Very nice butter boat. All three pieces are nicely glazed and have a nice weight. I love the blue water mark line in the bottom so that I don't overfill. I keep it on the table and refresh the water and add a few ice cubes every other day or so. Love having soft butter on hand! I live in Austin, Texas, where it gets hot, and I haven't had to throw out any sticks of butter yet!
What a Great Idea!
February 8, 2014
I've been buying soft tub butter for a while but not happy about the cost and the additional "stuff" that is added. I like just plain butter without any gimmicks! Anyway, after going to Europe last year, I discovered butter bells and thought they were neat but didn't like the fact that the butter actually has to be packed in and placed upside down in water (contamination comes to mind). So, when I came home it was on my mind. Well, as usual, I found exactly what I wanted on Amazon and this is it! Lovely ceramic, not too big, goes well on any table. Love that the butter doesn't have to be packed, that the actual butter-part container can be removed from the bottom part that holds water and used on the table. Plus, surprisingly, the water doesn't evaporate quickly as expected. PERFECT! Just have to remember to use SALTED BUTTER! And once in a while I add ice to the water when I want it nice and cold but not hard to spread.

Good Butter Dish but Too Long
August 17, 2017
Purchased OXO Good Grips Butter Dish because my old one had a large crack in it. I like the butter dish but it is a little too long for the butter compartment in the refrigerator. I may have to purchase another butter dish that is a little shorter. Product arrived on time.
Well designed
August 15, 2017
Great design. The lid fits nicely but doesn't snap so it's easy to open. Mine arrived with a big scratch on the top so I was a little disappointed. Sending it back is too much of a hassle though and otherwise it's a really great butter dish.
Like it
August 6, 2017
This butter dish is sleek. Cleans up in top shelf of dishwasher no problem. I like the non skid part and that you can see how much butter there is and what condition it is in. I didn't think I would ever use the subtle measuring marks on the side, but I have. This butter dish is not wide - need some precision when replacing the lid.
Works for butter
May 12, 2017
OK for price. Thought it had grips on bottom to keep butter in place. it does not. Has sides to keep from sliding of keeper. Markings are swame color as tray and very hard to see unless it is in a bright room.
I like this one because it has a measurement guide
May 2, 2017
I've been looking for a plastic butter dish, I'm always afraid I'll break the glass or ceramic ones. I like this one because it has a measurement guide, my only complaint is because of the little handles the dish doesn't fit in the compartment in my fridge.
Best bet for U.S. butters from coast-to-coast, but Irish butters are left out in the cold
May 25, 2015
Yes, this butter dish is great. I love the handles and the clear lid. There are also markings for those who need or want to measure the amount of butter they're cutting. I also learned through their advertising that butter is packaged differently between the East and West coasts of the United States, and that this butter dish handles both widths. But, alas, those creamy and delicious sticks of Irish butter that I love -- do not fit in this dish. Nonetheless, it is a keeper.

Good Butter Boat, Could Use Small Tweaks
November 29, 2015
Overall, I am fairly happy with this butter boat.

It really ought to be abut 1/4" taller in the butter section so that a full stick of butter doesn't hit the lid.

It works best if you keep the boat full (not just one stick, but about two sticks spread into it evenly). This is typical of butter boats in my experience though, so not anything specific to this one.

It's easy to clean.

It could be improved by making the lid easier to set down and pick up when upside down, as you almost always will do when getting butter. You have to sort of awkwardly flip it upside down and set it on the top handle if you want to get butter out without holding the top the whole time.
I like the butter boat overall
November 11, 2014
I like the butter boat overall. The only thing that should really be changed is the handle on top of the lid. If you have large hands as I do, it is difficult to grasp the little top. I've had it slip out of my hand on occasion and fall to the counter. Luckily it hasn't broken (it is hard porcelain). Apart from that, it keeps the butter nice and spreadable--perfect for toast in the morning.
So much better...
April 19, 2014
…than the "hang upside-down" butter keepers. As some have said, the lid does't fit quite right, but it still does the job. It's nice to not have to dig the butter out of the water when the house gets a little too warm. There is also room in the water reservoir to put a few small ice cubes. Whoever made it could use a little help on quality control, but all in all, it's not too bad.
Why did I not buy this sooner?
January 2, 2014
I only found out what a butter boat was in early 2013. I had been meaning to buy one for months. Finally I jumped on Amazon and pulled the trigger. When it arrived, I was glad to see that it was just as pictured - a simple white porcelain butter boat. I prefer the basic design for this type of item.

Feels substantial but not heavy, keeps the butter soft. The lid doesn't fit quite as snug as I would like, but it just sits on the table so I am not worried that it will be an issue. For the price, I am satisfied with this product. If you hate a hard stick of butter from the fridge, try this butter boat! it works!
A Must Have
October 15, 2012
I purchased this item because I owned an item like this one previously by another brand. I was unable to find the brand that I had used before and found this item on Amazon. It looks just like the other one. It works just like the one I was use to. It keeps the butter soft. But you must change the water several times a day in very hot weather, because you don't want the butter to melt. To get the best results, my advice would be, check the temperature of the water in the lower chamber periodically and change when it is no longer cold. The one con I have is that the lid does not fit as tight as I would like.

Too narrow. Definitely should've been a little wider. You have to be super precise to put the lid on without it smearing down the side of the butter.

Good, solid butter dish but not really amazing like some other OXO items
March 31, 2017
Good, solid butter dish but not really amazing in any way like some other OXO items. Clever to have the cut marks and nice to have the grips on the bottom; good enhancements like most OXO items but I must say it feels cheap.I do miss the feel of the glass butter dish. If OXO is listening, I would pay more for one made of melamine and glass or some combination thereof that was heavier. Ideally, it wouldn't be breakable but even if it were, I still miss the heft.
I also don't like that the dish slides around while I'm trying to ...
March 31, 2017
Okay butter dish. I wanted unbreakable and this is basically the nicest looking option for that. But its a little too big for the sticks of butter we use, and the butter gets stuck to the plastic and looks a little gross after a while. I also don't like that the dish slides around while I'm trying to slice a pat off sometimes. But it is functional. I didn't return it because we'd already started using it and desperately need a butter dish. But we might replace it in the near future with an old school glass one.
Too long!
July 17, 2016
I'm a big fan of OXO products, but this one leaves me a bit underwhelmed. My main issue is that it's longer than it needs to be, making it just too long to fit in the butter compartment of my fridge, which kind of defeats the whole purpose. I was also somehow unprepared fro how plasticky it feels. Yes, I knew it would be plastic, but I've found myself wish I'd gone ahead and bought the porcelain one I really wanted.
Not the best for west coast butter
November 3, 2015
Pros: the measuring marks are nice, they look good, they aren't bulky so we can fit two butter dishes side by side (one for salted and one for unsalted).Cons: It's a little small for west coast butter. With west coast butter, if you put it in one way, it will touch the lid and the butter stick will come up with the lid and you have to smack the lid to get the butter to come out. So you have to remember to turn it the short way (which I never realized it wasn't a square until we got this dish). Even with the butter in the "correct" way, it's still a little tight for the dish. If they made this just an 1/4th of an inch of bigger all the way around, I would probably give it 5 stars. We're keeping the dishes, but if you're on the west coast, they are just OK.

Attractive and fulfills purpose but the knob on top is uncomfortably small when picking it up. Makes it easy to drop and it's only a matter of time before it's chipped our broken.
Bad workmanship or defective?
January 13, 2016
I'm not sure if it's defective or bad workmanship. I have to contact the seller. The part where the butter goes in I thought and it seems should be fully glazed. However the rim or crease where the cover lays is not glazed. It's ruff and I am concerned that because it's not glazed properly then bacteria can soak into the ceramic. Glazing prevents that. I see no reason for it not to be glazed fully and no where in the description does it say it wouldn't be glazed fully. I can only conclude its defective of bad workmenship. To be honest, I feel for a $20 butter dish this is inexcusable. I will contact the seller and see what they say. I will keep you posted.
Would have given five stars...
March 22, 2014
...but unfortunately when I received them one was broken. So far the boat works pretty well, will update later, as it took almost ten days to receive them and haven't had much time to know if it works or not.

The reason for the three stars is in the return process. Amazon fulfilled the original order, but I have to go through the company to order another boat this time, as there was no option to replace, just return, which means I will have to pay for a new one (at a higher price), plus $9 in shipping, and another ten days for the new one to arrive. I don't remember asking to receive a broken boat, so why should I have to pay a higher price plus shipping to replace it instead of the company just replacing the broken one; that's just asinine.

UPDATE: Love the boat, but still three stars for the return process on this purchase. I ordered another one through a different company for less, and one-third the shipping cost (not through Amazon), received the boat within three days and it was not broken.
Not sure it works properly
February 15, 2014
This is a great looking butter dish. With that said, I am not sure it works as stated. The bottom of the top disk (outer) is unglazed to allow for the water in the bottom to evaporate. The problem is that the inside of the dish is glazed. The water never evaporated in my dish. The butter stays at room temperature and is great for spreading. I just don't think the dish works as designed. If it did the water would be needing to be replaced. Having a regular covered butter dish would work the same in my opinion. Should have returned it but I like the look of the dish.
Mine was not completely glazed
October 2, 2013
I wanted to contact the seller to ask if mine might have been defective but could not find a way to check with them. The edging on the bottom of the top cover and top of the bowl is not glazed. Think it's going to be a problem when butter gets on it. It's not very expensive so not sure worth messing around sending back. I have a one like this and it is completely glazed. Easier to wipe off.

A better design would have been a lid that can be ...
October 27, 2017
Pros: Slim enough to fit in various parts of the fridge, and has measurements on the bottom part. Cons: It fell from my fridge and summarily cracked but is still useable (albeit aesthetically displeasing). The lid NEVER stays on if I move it around in the fridge, so I'm constantly repositioning the lid back on which is the biggest drawback. Its a tad long for a standard stick of butter so ends up lopsided if you place the butter along the measurement lines. A better design would have been a lid that can be closed or clasped so it stays put.
Cons's win
May 18, 2017
Pros - light weight, attractiveCon - not airtight, butter not protected.
The lid does not stay on, which other reviewers ...
January 16, 2017
The lid does not stay on, which other reviewers said, but I could live with that. The disk is longer than the one I currently use and I can't fit it in my butter tray width wise so I have to put it in length wise which takes up more space I usually put 2 boxes of butter (1 salted, 1 unsalted) in my butter tray and now I can only fit one in it.
Did not particularly like this product
November 19, 2016
Did not particularly like this product, and ended up sending it back. As the description I believe states the top part does not lock into the bottom. I was aware of this but I thought it would fit a little bit more snug than it actually does. The product itself is therefore not what I was personally looking for.
does NOT fit non-USA butter sticks! be warned!
September 4, 2016
leaving this a -ve review simply because it did not clearly state that it ONLY fits butter sticks from USA.In other parts of Europe and Asia, butter sticks don't come in elongated shapes but in rectangular blocks, which clearly don't fit. While the onus is on me to ensure the proper fit before purchase, OXO could have just added a 1-2 liner on their product page, to ask customers to ensure this PROPERLY FITS the kinds of butter sticks in their area.
All plastic, not worth the price.
May 28, 2016
I purchased this without sufficient research, assuming from the images that it had at least a glass lid. The dish is made entirely of plastic. It feels more like an off-brand model than a quality product. It will hold butter, but it's hardly worth $10.

The butter boat doesn't fit well in the bottom. Lots of gaps. The top fits horrible on the butter boat. Large gap that lets air and bugs in!
Butter Boat from China
December 8, 2014
Cheaply-made Chinese apcray with rough edges. Lid doesn't fit well. Care must be taken when carrying dish or ill-fitting lid will fly off. I had much higher expectations.
Bad-fitting lids
August 10, 2014
I like the style and look of this butter boat, but the lids on the two I ordered do not fit well enough to really keep the butter. Very disappointed in this, as I looked for this style to store an entire butter stick.
Lid problem
January 2, 2014
The lid on this doesn't fit snugly and is always falling to the side or off. I have tile floors and am certain the lid will soon be broken from falling onto the floor. It is large enough to hold a full stick of butter, which is what I like, but the water doesn't seem to really help keep it cool. Perhaps if the outside of the bottom were left unglazed so that it could be wet??? Anyway, I'm still looking for that perfect butter holder that holds a full stick of butter and keeps it soft. This is not that holder.

while this is a true butter boat - it is NOT glazed on the rim on the inside of the cover - that is a huge glitch as it will not be able to be cleaned properly. Great idea poor product
December 4, 2013
I had a beloved Cook Street butter boat I purchased on QVC years ago. Hubby broke the lid and I've searched for over a year for a quality replacement. This Trudeau shares the same problem as the Silvermark butter boat. The quality is poor and the lid wobbles and doesn't sit properly on the boat. Add to it that it's made in China. Returned to Amazon for a refund.
