This is awsome. I bought a seperate cheap mower ans left this kit on for next year. Brought up about twice the grass of a normal cut, after i had already cut to the lowest mower deck setting.

Price was right and this item does the job! If you at all mechanically inclined, then the installation is easy enough and shouldn't be all that bad for those who aren't. Would recommend this to anyone, friends included!

Bought this to dethatch my lawn. Fit my 19 inch Murray mower with no problem. Just be mindful when mowing that you don't stay in one spot for too long because it will leave a circle in that spot. So when you go to turn the mower off make sure to keep moving and not just stop in one spot and turn it off.

July 13, 2015
Instructions were clear enough, though it would be nice if they specified which side of the blade goes down. It took a moment of three dimensional thinking to see how the spring fit correctly, and then ensure that it was pointed the right way.
It took all of 3 minutes to mount it up, and get to work. I have my grass very tall, and it's summer, so I didn't get to carried away with using it, I left it high, not touching the ground at all. It did pull thatch out of the brown spots, though, so we'll see how it does this fall when I trim the grass down and get ready for winter.
I have 2 mowers, the old one now has this blade on it, so I won't have to switch out at all.
Good product for good price

We purchased this as our lawn had not been dethatched in many years. It was a bit of a pain to put on, but other than than it worked like a charm. Yes we had a couple of bald spots, that would be because we did not realise how the ground rose under the grass. However it picked up a TON of grass. We did have to play with how high to put the blade, Once we fiugred it out it was fine. It is alot of work, and does not work with the bag. Even with a self propelled mower there was alot of moving of grass. We then put on our regular lawn mower blade and drover over the dethatched grass. I raked up the big piles but other than that our lawn mower picked up all of the dethatched grass. We had to empty the bag about every other turn but still much easier than all that raking.
Grass is recovering well and it is amazing how much dethatching this did.
Read several dethatching directions and play with what level to leave your mower. Do not stop between unless you kill the engine. WOrked like a charm. Not sure what the negative reviews are. Guess they did not read the directions.
Our tines did not break. We can tell they were used but no issues at all, except we will not wait 10 years again!

Very happy with this Dethatcher. Once you get it built and dialed in to your application it works great. Exactly as advertised. I run it over my two acres of grass and it helps a ton. Five stars !!
Great accessory .

Well built, works as is however add a little weight and WOW. Emptied my triple bagger once when I mowed, three times when I thatched. It's also a great lawn rake for up to 1in fallen branches.

June 15, 2016
Works exactly as advertised. Was easy to install, and did a great job. I wish it were a couple inches wider though.
It worked.
September 21, 2015
It worked. My yard really needed some work. My yard looks a bit messy now because it really brought to the surface alot of dead grass. My suggestion is to cut your grass short and bag the clippings before you use this dethatching blade. You will be doing a good bit of raking of old dead thatch. It will leave bare spots on your lawn when done. Be prepared to loosen the dirt and plant grass seed.
Not an exact fit, but was very easy to correct that.

Something I have needed for years, This was the time to get it. Great price, came with several different washers so that it will fit almost every lawn mower. Works great de-thatching, will make re-seeding and fertilizing my yard a breeze. Best purchase I ever made.....
Max Power 33010016-inch universal rake/dethatcher lawn mower blade
May 17, 2011
If you want to cut off your grass all the way to the ground, remove the dead grass, rake, and reveal the soil, this blade is for you. My purpose is to overseed my lawn, so I needed this blade to remove my old grass and reveal the ground. This blade will take everything off, from grass to weeds and dethatch as well. If you just want to use it just to rake a dead grass leaving your grass look good this blade is NOT will not work for you.

Hard to beat the value when a walk behind model costs just a bit less to rent for the day. Somewhat hard to understand the assembly directions, watch the video first and you should have no problems.

I received the dethatcher within a couple days and it came slightly scratched (as advertised) but being scratched I saved approximately $50. I assembled it and all the pieces were there (2 extra lock nuts). I haven't used it yet due to winter in Michigan and if it works great I will gladly give it 5 stars.

This has worked extremely well! I hated having to put it together but after that nightmare it worked very well. I strapped a couple good sized blocks on the back of it and did both my neighbors and my yard without an issue. It does feel a little cheap and unsteady but so far has worked well.
Good but not fantastic, worth the money though
March 2, 2016
Shipped quickly. All parts were included. Quality of parts seems pretty good for the price. Instructions are horrible, most kids could draw better. And i know my way around a wrench. Assembly took an hour cause of the instructions. No written instructions, just a picture sheet.Having to bend tabs to lock the tines into place seems cheesy but they seem to hold in lace pretty well. Comes with 2 thin metal rods to weave through each line of tines and tie off on each end, that way if one falls off it wont be lost. The height lift system is the weak point. It is not sturdy feeling and only has one "L" bracket to hold it in place on the "axle", has room for another one on the opposite side and already has pre drilled slots. I looker over the part list and i was not missing that part.Overall for $120, it will get the job done and hold up for several years if stored inside. If your wanting to rely heavily on this i suggest you dont. Go ahead and build one for the same price and have it 3x as sturdy. Will update once i have used it a few times. 03/02/16UPDATE 03/03/16 - i have used it several times today and it performs really well, you need straps to hold the weight on (neither are included). It does end up getting clogged up after a few minutes but thats only when running over ground already thatched. Sometimes it gets a back and fourth hop to it which would be fixed if the wheels were wider and spread out more. The wheels do collect dirt and mud and seem to not help much. In the lifted position it still is not high enough o be practical. With weight on the thatcher it is hard to lower and lift it, mainly cause of the flimsy lift handle. I plan on upgrading it soon and adding larger wheels, and buying rubber bungy hooks to keep the blocks from moving. Will update further if problems appear.

March 23, 2015
For a hundred dollars, I think this is a good machine. With some weight on it (70lbs) it did a helluva job pulling up dead grass this week (first week of spring). After lawn sweeping the clumps ( I have 3 acres), I have some serious grass piles. Not bad. I will say one thing and that is how the tines attach to this machine. I'm giving four stars because I had tines come off about three times. Also, I have no idea how anyone without special tools is supposed to bend the tabs over the tines - I used a heavy mallet and a large punch to bend them over the tine. I feel a nut and bolt attachment would have been much better. Probably should have given three stars for this issue, but I think at 100 dollars, it's hard to get too picky. Not perfect but good and I would recommend it - just have someone handy with a little mechanical skill help you assemble it.

Should work great, if it fits your mower
March 28, 2017
This may work ok if it will mount to your mower. I have a Honda Masters series and the 2 mounting holes are not big enough for the bolts. I'm not sure if the Masters is different than the consumer, Harmony series.

As far as the blade and spring/dethachers, it appears it would work great as long as it's set at the right height. Based on some reviews, some are trying to cut into the soil. I have both Tiff 419 and St Augustine and I can see it working fine in either, adjusted correctly. Don't expect it to hand pick everything you don't want on the ground, but it gets a lot more dead material than you can with a plain blade.

3 stars because the quality is there and after using another blade to do what this one was supposed to, I can definitely see where this one could be more efficient, again,at the right height, and not expecting one pass perfection. Knocking 2 stars off because it is not as described as far as application. I might could have made it work if I took a chance and damaged the 2 bolts, but I change blades configurations often and don't want bunged up bolts.
Not for star shaped Husqvarna
April 13, 2016
Didn't work with a star shaped Husqvarna, thought I could make it work and gronk down, don't do that, I then thought I screwed up my whole lawn mower since it was stuck on there. It worked for about half the yard, did its job for that half, but then didn't move with the motor, the issue was the middle hole, the Husqvarna has a star shaped middle. Happy that it only cost me a little to try it, had that scare about ruining the lawn mower though.

Assembly instructions are useless. Good quality but assembly is really too much trouble.
August 30, 2017
Started to put this together. Did not get far because the instructions are useless. Illustration appears to be for a different design. I reached out to the company for help. After I spent a day exchanging emails with customer service, they sent me a video that was helpful. Still took me over 2 hours to assemble. Build quality is actually pretty good but the assembly is far harder than it should be. Updated: after I watched the video many times, I finally figured out the assembly. Instructions tell you to attach tines with a screwdriver. Will never work. Requires a good hammer and great care not to smash your fingers. I have assembed a great many devices. I think that this was the worst. After all the assembly nonsense, I used this thing. It works great. Very good tool, if you can eventually figure out the nightmare assembly.
Good. Not great. Design flaw.
September 3, 2016
Srpings are held in by metal tabs that are cut into the main panel and need to be bent over the springs with a screw driver according to instructions. At first I used a heavy flat head craftsman screwdriver and nearly snapped the tip off. I had to hammer the tabs down then use a screwdriver to finish the job. I havent used yet but if other reviews about replacing springs now and then are true, eventually the tabs hold them in will snap off after being bent and pulled up over and over. Not a great design for longevity.

Combination of my mistake and theirs. Seems to be a nice product, but unfortunately for the first time in all the years I have put things together (no I will not give my age away, but trust me it's old) the product came missing three integral bolts. Maybe I just got lucky all those times before, but because of the history it just didn't occur to me to check first. Once I got to the point where I needed them, I made the mistake of continuing without putting them in. Good news is when I called they shipped them right out. The bad news is when I continued assembling I didn't notice that by attaching the 'prongs' I was covering up where the bolts needed to go. There is no way to remove the prongs without weakening the way they attach, so now I am stuck, do I ruin two of the prongs, or do I sell it for scrap. Combination of my mistake and theirs. Would have been more fun to just burn a hundred dollar bill in front of friends, it would have gotten a great reaction and I would have saved a lot of time. Moral of the story: Warning, be sure all the parts are there before you begin.
It's ok but flimsy
June 23, 2014
Product works ok I guess but it very flimsy due to the light weight / cheap metal it was built with. Might be ok if had a very small yard as well but I wouldn't recommend it.

Incompatible with Greenworks electric mower.
July 5, 2017
I could not get this to fit my Greenworks electric mower. In fact, the instructions recommend that you don't use it with any electric mower, although it then concedes that you can go ahead and try if you want. I don't know what the downside is to running it on an electric.

Two stars because even though I couldn't get it to fit, it otherwise appears to be well made.

June 28, 2017
As many have mentioned, I had to enlarge the slots in this blade to fit my mower. More importantly the times weren't long enough to reach the thatch layer. I washered the blade down and lowered the mower to its lowest setting and still all it would do was chop the tops from the existing grass, never got to the thatch. This is just $12 worth of landfill for me...
This was a Honda mower, fwiw.
"Don't waste your time
April 13, 2017
This was an old review from 2014 but it rang true for me:

"Don't waste your time. All it did was strip all the grass down to the dirt. Started at the highest setting and worked the level down until it just made contact with the grass, the next setting shredded the grass, but didn't touch the thatch. The next setting ripped the grass and the thatch from the ground."

It did a better job of cutting my grass off than bringing the thatch up.

Here's a few reasons as to why it was unsuccessful and did damage:

1. At a high setting it didn't shred my grass, it also didn't touch the thatch
2. My grass wasn't wet, but it wasn't bone dry. I think bone dry might be best.
3. We just purchased the house and the lawn is complete garbage to start with.. thin grass, lots of creeping Charlie, & moss... it's not thick grass. I think if it were thick and healthy we might've had luck.
4. I hand rakes my small front and took up 6 garbage bags of thatch. I know the thatch in the lawn is super thick and compressed... it hasn't been dethatched in probably 20+ years.... because it's compressed and thick this tool didn't work.

If you're feeling out of luck get a manual dethatching rake. Picked mine up at the thrift store for a couple bucks.

After dethatching, aerating, and overseeding I'm going to give it a year to grow. I'll try this tool out next year and see if they're any changes... it did fit my 21" Murray mower just fine.

A lot of reviews are super positive... making it hard to believe my experience was so horrendous!
Dethatch blade
April 28, 2016
Doesn't work on my mowers, the spring doesn't touch the ground, even at the lowest possible settings.
Didn't dethatch, damaged lawn
May 26, 2012
I was hoping this would work but it didn't. I set the deck high to start and tried it. I lowered it and tried again until it touched the grass. It pulled up more live grass than thatch. It actually didn't pull up very much thatch. It ended up shredding the existing blades, leaving ragged, damaged ends. Luckily I only did a small area but I'm worry that it may have damaged it.

It also says it is recommended for gas mowers. I have an electric mower. It says you can use it as long as you keep a constant speed, which I did.

Such a tease!
October 6, 2015
My journey began 2 weeks ago when I ordered this item to use after aerating which I plan to do this week.I received it in a banged up box that had lots of tape. I knew this was a return, but I didn't care as long as it had all its parts. It only had about half of the parts needed. I returned and waited for replacement. My replacement was delivered today and already looked much better. It had proper stickers and only a little tape. I grabbed a bourbon and my razor blade and dug in. So many parts included it felt like Christmas. I got going on the first step. Done. On to the next step. Wait a minute. Where are the two long metal parts needed to assemble the tow hitch? Bamboozled again. I'm returning for a full refund since I don't have time to wait to find out if third time's the charm.I gave it 2 stars rather than 1 due to sturdiness of the parts that I did receive.

Made for "Office Boys" and others who never worked with decent equipment
May 10, 2013
When I was a kid on the farm, my father used to mend things from time to time with hay-wire (which they used before the advent of baler twine). "Haywire" since became synonymous with something done fast and poorly. Well, this piece of junk actually uses haywire as an integral component, in particular to hold the tines together. I could not believe it. Firstly the tines are slipped into tabs and you are instructed to bend the tabs over with a hammer then string a length of wire through each of the 2 rows to hold them on. Why not proper steel clips? Embarrassingly poor engineering and Agri-Fab should be called Agri-Fable on this one. In use it does a mediocre job, better off dragging a bag of cats behind you.So like I say, all the Office Boys who get excited by a new toy will write superlatives all day long but as for people who actually work and need decent, proper tools and equipment...don't bother with this...FYI I paid less than $130.00

A real piece of junk. They give you a hand full of adapters, not one worked on my Snapper mower. If your mower has a couple of dimples to help hold the blade in place, do not get this. It just spins and wears down the dimples. Would not recommend this to anyone I wanted to keep as a friend.

After spending a great deal of time adjusting the depth of the tines
April 23, 2017
I thought I would give this a try. After spending a great deal of time adjusting the depth of the tines, I realized that there is not much adjusting at all. Regardless of the adjustments I made, I could not get the front rear tines to adjust to the same depth as the front. I also added patio blocks that fit great, however the unit still shook back and forth violently unless I was move slower than a snail with my mower. The construction is not real solid and would not reccomend unless you already have a perfectly flat and manicured lawn.
