Five Star Reviews: | 79% This is a great small grill July 27, 2017 A baby Weber ? NOOOOOOOOO ! It's a WEBER. I originally bought this to pimp out a Brinkman ... But, this is a high quality grill for 2. It does almost everything the big Weber does. But, it's smaller... I can roast a whole chicken in it but, The chicken needs to be split in half. This is a great small grill ... Perfect for camping, tailgating, and for a family of 2. Great grill for a great price! June 18, 2017 Love this grill, it works really well and is very low maintenance. It was a great price and it really does get the job done. Compared to other grills I've purchased in the past I believe this one truly rises to the top. Really great for summer too! love it. good for a small family April 18, 2017 love it. good for a small family. It exactly the size I want for my husband and I. Won't waste too much charcoal and easy to clean. Five Stars March 30, 2017 EASY TO PUT TOGETHER. WORKS GREAT FOR MINI FIRE PIT TO MAKE SMOARS IN BACKYARD. Much hotter cooking if you remove the top! March 14, 2016 I've had this great grill for about 3 years now.... works perfect! WAY better than a cheaper imitation grill. The one thing that was bugging me about it is that I couldn't keep the coals super hot.... now I know to open both vents all the way... and if it is still not enough heat or the heat is dying... just take off the top and it will get super hot with an open top air flow! Hope this helps someone. | 77% Easy to transport and ready for use September 12, 2016 Can never go wrong with a weber. This grill is everything I hoped it was. Easy to transport and ready for use. Very well made. Metal does not bend or flex anywhere on this thing. Definitely recommend. No regrets! July 11, 2016 This was a great investment! I love that the "legs" hold the lid on for easy carrying. Perfect cooking area for 2 people. Cooked 2 ribeyes to perfection just as on a regular size grill. cooked 2 salmon cuts on wood planks ... both times with veggies on the side. Well worth the money. We did take the advice of another reviewer and lined the bottom with aluminum foil before adding coals to make for easy cleanup while traveling. Best choice for urban grillers June 2, 2016 My urban family agrees that this is the best purchase we made last year. We live in a city and have no yard. Our opportunities for grilling come when we take it to a park or go travelling and we have adored languid afternoons in the park, and using it at rest areas for lunch while on tedious drives. But we must store the grill indoors when we are not using it. This grill is more functional for our purposes than the round version Weber sells, and it compacts beautifully for the trunk of our car. It sits easily in the two-wheeled shopping cart we use to walk it to the local park, and it sits easily on the shelf. We once had a Smokey Joe, which we loved to cook on, but was much less convenient to transport and store.I hope Weber keeps families like mine in mind going forward. How about a kit that fits inside this grill, consisting of a small chimney starter, container for briquettes, and grill brush/tongs and spatula? That would let us transport everything we need in one neat package I Love this grill!! June 15, 2014 This grill is wonderful for small barbecue jobs I can grill two mid size steaks or 6 to 8 pieces of chicken depending on size of the pieces. I like to leave about a quarter of the grill rack without any charcoal under it for moving finished food to that area to keep it warm and not on top of coals. I also place aluminum foil in the inside bottom of the grill but leave the holes open on the side of the grill while cooking and when I'm ready to dump the coals off the bottom grill shelf it makes for a super easy clean up and my grill will last even longer. I can just fold up the foil with the cooled coals and toss. It grills beautifully and after I'm done grilling and have closed all the vents the grill cools down fairly fast . I did buy a small aluminum table for 22$ to place this on so that I can have it up off the ground. When I received the grill it took me perhaps 5 minutes to attach the handles and the legs. Instructions were simple. Very happy with this grill. Convenient and Very Well-Built! June 27, 2011 Weber makes a great traveling grill. I use this little grill all the time! I love how it can fold-up and you can carry it by the handle. The legs of this grill wrap around and cinch the lid closed by two notches in the lid. The area of the grill surface is perfect for my lady and I. I use about 24 pieces of coal every time and this seems to cover the bottom and provide enough heat. There is a grate that is used for the coal so that the coals don't rest on the bottom of the grill. This provides circulation to keep the coals burning well. Cleaning the ash out of the bottom either requires you to flip the grill upside down and shake it or you have to take the legs out to get the coal grate out so you can dump the ash. There are vents in the bottom that open and close and vents in the top too. This grill beats-out the rest simply because of the quality and design! I would highly recommend this grill. |
Four Star Reviews: | 13% Prefect little grill August 13, 2017 Perfect little grill. Dont have to pull the big grill out. Fits a good amount of food. Wish it had handles on the sides. Very easy assembly, perfect size for cooking for a few ... July 25, 2017 This is a solid little grill. Very easy assembly, perfect size for cooking for a few people. Very light. Only complaint is that it isn't the easiest thing to store. Smaller Weber, Good ! March 18, 2017 Cooks well and is faster than some grills. Concentrates heat well. Cheap enough ! If grilling was a focus I'd kick in for the next step up which has better venting. January 6, 2017 Ok for the $$... suits my needs as a fire pit insert instead of a BBQ. If grilling was a focus I'd kick in for the next step up which has better venting. The 22-inch is great for big grill-outs June 28, 2015 I bought the Smokey Joe as a complement to my much larger 22-inch Weber. The 22-inch is great for big grill-outs, but it eats up so much charcoal, and lasts so long, that it makes me feel like I need to invite the whole neighborhood and cook all the meat in the house whenever I get it started. The Smokey Joe is great for cooking burgers for three or four people, or as a little s'mores fire on the back porch. If you're a poor/single/lazy student like me, it's perfect for grilling four or five days worth of chicken breasts to reheat later (and they'll still taste great). You can even throw some vegetables on there if you're feeling healthy and/or fancy. It pairs really well with a larger charcoal grill. Whenever we have a bigger party, I use the Smokey Joe to start coals before I move them to my full-size grill. I only have two complaints: (1) the body of the grill doesn't have a handle. If you want to move it after it's lit, you have to grab the body of the grill. Remember to bring an oven mitt. (2) there's no way to clear ash from the bottom of the bowl. On the larger Webers, the lever that opens/closes the bottom air vent also scrapes the bottom of the bowl, but that's not the case for the Smokey Joe. You can't clear ash from the bottom of the Smokey Joe unless you're willing to pull up the coals and scrape the ash out from underneath. Overall, though, it's a great starter grill or second grill. It's not ideal for big or long cookouts, and it has some minor design flaws, but it's more than worth the price. | 16% Great grill, just a little pricey. April 6, 2017 I like this grill. It's a bit expensive for what you get, but I needed a rectangular, portable grill to fit my needs. Like most Weber products, it is well made and I expect it to last a long time. Best portable briquette BBQ March 25, 2017 This is a terrific portable bbq for those of us who like briquette cooking. Only problem is the lid keeps hitting the ground cause there's no convenient hanging mechanism (it does have something that's supposed to work, but either it doesn't, or I'm just clumsy... Good Grill October 9, 2015 I've used the grill several times now -- highlights are:+) The food grill ends up being very close to the heat source beneath (charcoal, wood, etc.) I like this because my food sears better and cooks faster, if that's what I'm going for.+) Sturdy enough -- works well to grill in our backyard, and would also transport well if we went camping or something.-) One of the top, circular vents is "too loose" -- there's little friction between the vent and the lid, so it's harder to position the vent, and it could move during a rainstorm or windy weather, admitting water into the grill body... The other top vent works well, good friction.-) No ash pan -- to get rid of ashes, you must dump them out or scoop them out. very good. arrived in damaged box July 18, 2015 very good. arrived in damaged box. one side of one end where the handle attaches was mashed in pretty good which made putting the handle on quite a chore and the flipping legs are not even so it wobbled until we stabilized with a rock. otherwise it's great. takes a bit of getting used to adjusting the side vents. wide open it burns real, real hot. once we got the air flow, great cooker. Nice space-saving grill for two November 16, 2013 This is a great little grill for two people. It will fit 2-3 slabs or meat, or some meat and a foil pouch of vegetables. It's about the size of a bread box. -1 Star as ours came missing the plastic cover for one handle. We've forgotten ours outside once or twice and it's been rained on. No noticeable rust though the metal parts are pretty filmy looking. The side vents are a bit simplistic and hard to move when hot (use handle of a utensil for this). The biggest drawback to this grill is that it's a pain to clean. You have to lift out the upper grill and then either scoop out ash and charcoal or find some way to hold/catch the heavy steel bottom grill (the one that sits under your coal) when you try to dump it. Expect to inhale a lot of dust/ash every time you have to clean. And you have to clean it just about every time you use it since it can't hold much debris. However, I can't see a way to make a grill this small without having this drawback and don't think it deserves a lost Star.Bottom line, we enjoy using this, it cooks up tasty food for two, and would get it again. We have Webers in my family older than I am! one more time September 12, 2009 have had a half a dozen different grill over the years, read all of the reviews on this grill on amazon. just the 2 of us at home now, so didn't need a big grill, and never had a weber and needed a small grill.everybody gave this grill great reviews, and i think, i made the right choice it works great, i line the bottom with foil ,which makes for easy cleaning. air holes are on the sides of the top and bottom of the grill.which makes it draft easy to control, and with a weber you do most of the cooking with the lid on, its just a matter of learning to control the heat. was easy to put togather and weber has a web sight to help you with how to and recipes, and will even send you a new recipe every friday. am looking for alot of great cooking except for whole chicken or turkey. |
Three Star Reviews: | 5% Scratched & dented :( September 9, 2017 Arrived on time. As we await hurricane Irma need it In case we lose power. Very disappointed the box was caved in. Opened the box and the grill was scratched and dented in as well. If we weren't in need right now and could replace it, I would be returning it. Hope it works well. Could be more heavy duty. July 18, 2017 The grill works fine although not as sturdy and heavy duty as other Weber products I have had. Perfect for small use. Airflow control can be difficult. June 22, 2017 Much more difficult to control airflow with this than full size (28 inch) grill. I failed several times even though I know my way around the larger version. Don't know why they don't include something to keep the ... July 12, 2016 Don't know why they don't include something to keep the top locked on so you can carry it by the handle when traveling to and from the park. | 4% Okay grill May 7, 2017 Good in theory. Tray rusted upon first use so we gave it away. Not sure we would buy this again. this is a great grill. i originally bought this grill for tailgating September 22, 2016 this is a great grill . i originally bought this grill for tailgating . i have used for so much more . it has been used as a back up grill at church gatherings , spontaneous trip to the park , and hot days in the house . i have not seen a rust soon .now the negative , maybe its user error . but i put the leg clasp on wrong . i can't get it off to put it on properly . so i have to make sure the legs in the proper position before i fire up the coals , Nice quality however not as big as shown June 30, 2016 Nice quality however not as big as shown. Not enough room for the coals, so it don't get very hot. In real world use I can't get used to how close the coals are to the grill grate October 31, 2014 I have the original smokey joe round portable grill, and have used it for years. I bought this grill because I found the design to be really appealing. The square shape and folding legs seemed to make it an ideal grill for packing in the camper when travelling since it would fit better than the round smokey joe that has the fixed legs.I like the vents on this grill too, better than the smokey joe. The biggest downside for me was when I put the grill to use. I find that the distance between the coals and the grill grate is way too close. I gave it time, thinking I could adjust my cooking style, and use fewer coals and learn to control the heat, but I've had this for over a year and used it on several camping trips so far, and just can't get used to how close the coals are to the food.I've gone back to using the smokey joe, and really love it, so the smokey joe is what I take again now on my trips instead of this one. Maybe if the grill grate was adjustable, or the grill was deeper, allowing the coal grate to sit lower, then it might offer a much better cooking experience. Needs height adjustable cooking rack October 24, 2014 We were disappointed that the rack on which one places the food to be cooked isn't height adjustable. We have learned that the only way to control the cooking temperature is to vary the amount of charcoal and the length of time it has been burning. This has required a lot of trial and error cooking. |
Two Star Reviews: | 2% Lacking Quality for Weber May 3, 2017 Love it for screened in porch when raining outside. Don't like the grill surface - cannot grasp it - there needs to be something raised to grasp in order to lift off in order to spread or add charcoal. Bottom vent won't move/open,close. Stuck in one position. Quality is lacking in this smaller Weber Sadly, never got hot enough August 19, 2016 Sadly, after trying different brands of charcoal briquets and using the Weber 7447 Compact Rapidfire Chimney Starter, this little guy never developed a high enough temperature to do anything but turn meat grey. So I donated it with the chimney starter. Too bad. My brother said he had used it successfully while camping. Had great hope as the large Weber we used to have made such tasty hamburgers and steak. I am a huge fan of Weber grills! I ... June 4, 2016 I am a huge fan of Weber grills! I moved to a small apartment with a small balcony. I purchased this grill for that reason. When it arrived a screw was missing and there was a chip showing the metal which will start to rust. Only reason I didn't return the grill is because the return policy is a pain in the neck. Hopefully I'll be out of this apt. within the year and I can go back to my standard sized grill. Silver Model Not Enough Ventilation August 25, 2015 Well made grill, but it has a ventilation problem either caused by vent's distance from charcoal or fact ashes clog airflow. The grill is fine for quick stuff like hot dogs or burgers, but if you cook stuff like chicken that needs 30-60 minutes charcoal dies. I know some people design a coffee can with holes or drill holes in grill, but I expected something better from Weber. I switched to the son of hibachi. I'd go with the gold or think about a hibachi style if you cook stuff that takes longer. missing parts November 18, 2012 When I opened my gift I was on my way to tailgate. Disappointed missing washers, bottom grate missing, and the vent on the top was broken. I love webber grills have had many over the years. Not sure what happened here but open your box as soon as you get it. I waited a long time | 1% It should be a bit larger to be acceptable! August 1, 2015 I must say that I am disappointed with this purchase; it is very small even for one person. Works ok, not a true Weber May 31, 2015 Works ok, easy to carry and stow, the BBQ gets very hot so don't place on a wood or plastic table. The lid and side handles get very hot and it needs a grill grate adjustment. This does not meet the Weber standard, but you get what you pay for. High hopes, but I was glad when it was finally stolen March 23, 2015 I hate to rate a Weber product low, because they're great at everything else they do. And their Smokey Joe product is so much better, but I gotta say this thing is not very good. It's too hard to control the heat, the coals are way too close to the food, and I've burned more chicken breasts on this thing than on any other grill I've owned. I bought it because I live in a condo, and this little guy doesn't take up much space, but I've given up on trying to make it work because the only thing I've successfully done is cook flat bread on it. Everything else just burns because the heat is too high, or is undercooked because the coals burn out so quickly. |
One Star Reviews: | 1% Extreme scratch and dent! September 11, 2017 I have not used the grill, so I cannot rate its performance. As the photos show, it arrived badly damaged. This was especially disappointing as I ordered the item in case of power outages due to Hurricane Irma. Due to this fact, I went ahead and assembled the grill after attempting to bang out the dents with a rubber mallet to an extent where the lid would fit on the bowl. Thankfully, it looks as though my area will not see much impact from the storm, so I have ordered a replacement and will disassemble and return this item. I am hoping that the replacement arrives in better condition, but my hopes are not all that high due to the minimal and inadequate protective packaging used by Weber. Missing one of the grill legs May 14, 2017 Received 2 legs instead of 3 legs of the grill. My BBQ party got spoilt because of this mistake. Very disappointed. Piece of garbage. The handle from the lid broke off after ... May 10, 2015 Piece of garbage. The handle from the lid broke off after using the grill once. Honestly thought Weber grills were built with some sort of quality control. I am very disappointed. Update: I must say that Amazon has yet again, went above and beyond to make me satisfied with the order. Although this purchase was well over the 30 day return mark, Amazon has replaced the broken grill free of charge. Lets hope this new grill will last longer than the first one. Amazon is AWESOME! Cheaply made. July 2, 2014 This is not your normal Weber grill! Cheaply made and metal is really thin. No locking lid or handles. So if you need to move it, you can't until it completely cools down. I don't know if you upgrade to another model, it may be better. We had one similar to this for years! Metal was a lot thicker. Should have just kept that one. I emailed Weber regarding this model. Oh, and made in China! Not USA. | 2% ... of July writing this review because that's just how bad this grill is July 4, 2016 I am sitting here on the 4th of July writing this review because that's just how bad this grill is. Not once, but three times this grill's fire went out. It is of poor make and quality. The material is already flimsy and bent on parts, and I think I've used it maybe 4 times since I've bought it 3 months ago?I had a very , how to say , anxious experience with this grill. If I wasn't a military trained firefighter, it might have been a bigger issue, this grill decided to close in on itself locking down all vent holes creating a massive hot box with billowing smoke impossible to unhinge itself. Luckily I acted swiftly, ran, and got pot holders and unhinged the bottom. I had to get pot holders because the material of the handles are simply not heat resistant, its cheap quality plastic that simply does not deter the heat at all. Whoever designed this was not intelligent at all, its terrible in every-way. I do not recommend you buy this, I recommend you buy the round grill instead. The entire thing is wobbly and about as shaky as a rusted-through grill I owned for 5 years , there is nothing good about this. In fact, I'm about to go use that grill instead. Bad impression! April 21, 2016 The box of the product seemed normal, but found the lid edge was distorted. I sent the grills to my dad and relatives in Thailand. This distorted one belonged to my day as his present. How bad feeling we got from this situation!!!! The legs that fold up over the lid does not ... September 4, 2015 The legs that fold up over the lid does not secure the lid to the bottom half. The legs on the older models used to do this, so when you do bring them over the top of the lid, they snap over the bumps. This way when you pick it up, it stays together. This newer model does not, so when you pick it up, the lid just comes off. Not worth it December 6, 2014 Way smaller than I thought , and extremely overpriced .Works ok, but not worth the money Warning The unit I got legs were to long and ... July 17, 2014 Warning The unit I got legs were to long and would not snap the top in place. I advise buying from a store and have them put together to make sure the legs fit. Worst grill ever! March 24, 2014 I assumed after reading all the reviews this would be a sure winner..boy was I wrong. Packaging and assembly was great and easy. When it came to starting the grill that's when disaster struck....I tried wood, I even tried coal and the good kind..Kingsford. On both situations it would not stay warm or lit. I refused to have to fill the whole thing with charcoal but it seems as if that's what it would have taken to get it to actually work. I don't know if that's what everyone else was doing but for me it doesn't take a rocket scientist to learn or know how to start a grill going. This was a waste of 50.00 never again.... |
