Five Star Reviews: | 77% Gyro is a Winner September 5, 2017 The ease of starting a screw or reversing direction of a screw with the gyroscopic screwdriver is unmatched by conventional battery powered screwdrivers. With the gyroscopic screwdriver just grab the handle like grabbing the handle of a plain screwdriver, turn it in the desired direction, and the screw rotation begins. Turn it more and the speed increases or less and the speed decreases. The unit does not have a "chuck" but rather the quick connect feature allows for changing of different driver bits. My gyroscopic screwdriver has operated flawlessly over the months of time I have had it. There were no initial defects. The battery, though small, is very potent and lasts longer than I expected. The built in light which engages when grabbing the handle is effective. I recommend the kit that has two batteries to avoid running out of juice. With electrical finishing work this tool is ideal. With wood this tool is average in power for a portable screwdriver. Heavy deck building with treated lumber is a task better left to full size portable drills. That being said, this tool would be acceptable for those tasks normally done well with a conventional portable screwdriver. The main advantage of this tool is the gyro action. The two configurations, straight and pistol, are a nice feature. Although I am not normally a Dewalt fan, the gyroscopic screwdriver is superb. I am amazed at how it works. This tool is worth the money for anyone who would need to drive in or remove screws as part of their weekly work activity. Light to Sub-Medium Duty Capable September 4, 2017 Great piece of gear to have in a tool bag. This is of course good for appliance type work, vehicle dash panels, etc. Small torque items. Would not recommend it be used for truck lug nuts or anything of the sort. With small projects in mind, there may be a clearance issue working in tight spaces. The front end of the driver is bulky to where it would not allow use in deep recessed-set screws. unless you have an extended bit which this set does not come with. Easily found at Amazon also. All in all, charge is useful and lasts for about 2 months when left alone after a full charge. The speed determined gyroscope feature is nice to have. The feature is new to me so I cannot comment on it's performance compared to other NASA/Space X gyroscope products. Dewalt is a great brand I plan to buy with on my next power tool searches. For light duty to sub-medium duty work, I would recommend this. this is probably my favorite tool ever June 30, 2017 Wow. this is probably my favorite tool ever. i am a cable technician and am constantly putting on and taking off wall plates. this has saved me so much effort and grief. the gyro is fantastic. just twist your wrist in the direction you want to go and it does it. also the amount of twist controls the speed. this is really well thought out. you can even use this to screw in clips to siding and other stuff you wouldn't expect it to have power for. its actually really strong for its size and fast. additionally the battery lasts quite a lot longer than i expected. i am really happy with this drill and have recommended it to others who have loved it too! A fantastic addition to any tool box! May 21, 2017 I was very leery about this tool when I first bought it. Now I can't live without it. If you are working on hard to reach places a boat (or anywhere else) all you need to do is reach the screw or nut, then turn your wrist the way you want it to turn. I was so impressed with these that I bought my son and a friend their own. My friend can't believe how much it has already helped him when he was replacing a fuel tank and fill line on his boat. He already has his buddy buying one. Although this tool comes with 2 batteries, a single charge lasts for a very long time. The ability to just twist your wrist to start it turning is great but the more you move your wrist the fast it will turn. Plus it comes with led lights to help in the darker locations and an adjustable clutch so you won't strip or over tighten items. This is a must have tool for most people. DeWalt continues to blow me away December 26, 2016 I have had many brands of cordless man toys, dating back to when you were cool having a 9.6v Ni-Cad Makita. Now all I have is DeWalt, which lasts forever. I picked this lil guy up for inside the house. My wife and I love it. It has amazing torque for its size and is very intuitive to use. It doesn't matter what position you start it in, just twist (right tighty / lefty loosy) and she goes. The amount of twist also controls how fast she goes. Nice tool! Great little screwdriver October 7, 2016 This is a great tool.Power: I use it mainly for screwing in threaded screws. It does have enough power to screw two 2" peices of wood together, and just enough to drill a 1" hole in drywall with a paddle bit.Durability: My tools do not live an easy life. They get a hot supper nearly every day. I've dropped this tool countless times from 12 feet with no issues, other than cosmetic.Charging: Will do about 200 or so screws before a recharge is needed. It can be charged in about 30 minutes to full. Overall I'm very impressed with how long the battery lasts.Gyroscope: There's definitely a learning curve to this tool. I've let co-workers try it and it takes them a couple minutes to get the hang of it. It saves a little bit of time not having to reach for a switch to change motor direction | 55% Right Tool Right Price September 10, 2017 I like the style of this tool. I do not like the pistol grip type. I feel I get a better grip on the screw when I use this straight tool. It is easy to lock the blade and use hand power to turn if need be. I like replaceable batteries as I have thrown away appliances because a battery will not hold a charge and that does not seem right. I can use alkaline batteries if I want or I can get Ni-cad , or NIMH if I want. I can get Lithium if I want to. the choice is mine to make depending on my needs and my willingness to part with cash. For most screws it is power enough. If I need a Torque Wrench that is a different tool for a different need. I won't break off screws like my driver drill does with this and It will be handy in more times and more places. Oh and the price is right. Comes in handy around the house May 16, 2017 Lightweight, easy to use, convenient, comes with Phillips and Slotted tips plus 4 Alkaline batteries installed at the lowest price I could find anywhere. It's not the most powerful tool out there, but then it's designed to be a better screwdriver, not a drill or screwgun. I have used it on my scooter and around the house and I like the fact that it does not spin too fast, so that I don't over tighten and strip screws out like I did with my screwgun. Nice, lightweight unit. May 3, 2017 My husband had a set of B&D screw bits but the original handle would not hold the tips in place. Hated to waste all those different sizes and kinds so I purchased this cordless model and it works great with all the bits. This is great I have rechargeable AA batteries if I did not ... March 26, 2017 This is great I have rechargeable AA batteries if I did not have rechargeable batteries I would not like it batteries are expensive it is good for all those household jobs to get screws in without turning by hand, and finish by hand with screw driver. Black & Decker AS6NG Alkaline Cordless Screwdriver October 20, 2016 Black & Decker AS6NG Alkaline Cordless Screwdriver has plenty of torque to screw or unscrew most anything I need as my loss of hand co-ordination has made that very difficult and this driver does good and even 'LOCKS' for the really tough jobs. I use ENELOOP rechargeable cells to run this cool tool. |
Four Star Reviews: | 12% It grew on me, and now I wouldn't be without it August 22, 2017 I have to admit that I bought this to have a new toy, and once I had it, wondered if I would ever actually need it. The gyroscope aspect comes with a learning curve: pulling the trigger only lights up the led's. Until you apply a bit of wrist twist, nothing happens. Sometimes there is plenty of room to move your hand like that, and sometimes it is a pain. Now that I have owned it for six months, I have put away the other electric screwdrivers I own and reach for this first. The battery lasts a very long time. There is a reasonable amount of torque to seat screws or remove them. The torque settings allow this to be what my kids call "an IKEA tool", meaning you don't have to assemble by hand to avoid stripping everything. It took a bit, but I'm glad I was indulgent. I likie... I likie a lot :) August 19, 2017 Great tool, the clutch is very consistent. I have a Bosch battery driver I like a lot, this tool is nice because you don't have to push a switch on the handle to reverse it. Both brands have an intended use, this mainly gets used to tighten wire nuts, saving my fingers from abuse. Nice, I use to 20 v stuff August 14, 2017 Nice, I use to 20 v stuff. This would be better as at least a 12 v system. That said, it does what it is marketed for, I would purchase again!!!I use the auto direction feature 98% of the time. Handy but costly driver October 1, 2016 I had a gyroscopic screwdriver which disappeared when I moved to a new home. Bought this one to replace it even though it was 3 times the cost of my first one, a Black & Decker. This one has a lithium battery and the torque is adjustable, similar to a regular drill/driver. The highest torque setting, however, was insufficient to loosen screws in a few instances. Admittedly, the screws were quite tight but it was not too difficult to start them with a hand screwdriver so they weren't all that tight. Secondly, this is not particularly good as a drill although I must admit I don't recall it claiming to be a drill. My $25-30 Ni-Cad screwdrivers are much better at drilling. Having said that, it is incredibly handy to simply rotate your hand to change direction of rotation, especially when working in confined areas. Also, the benefits of a lithium battery are clearly an advantage. But why does it have to cost so much? Feels sturdy and well made July 26, 2016 Bought as a replacement for a light duty cordless screw driver.Feels sturdy and well made, has more than enough torque for my needs. Not sure how I feel about the gyroscopic actuation. On the plus side it is pretty intuitive on how much torque you want the driver to apply. On the down side, I keep forgetting I have to set the head in the screw so I have enough room to also twist the driver. Probably something I would get used to if I used it more often. Update: The gyroscopic activation was easy to get used to after a bit of use.The biggest draw back is that the battery is specific to this tool.Be aware that this driver uses power bits and are not included. Great idea. Tightens or loosens with a turn of ... January 3, 2016 Great idea. Tightens or loosens with a turn of the wrist. No more fumbling for the reverse/ forward switch. Variable speed. Takes a little getting used to since it is all in the wrist turn. Powerful enough to drive a 1 1/2" screw into a 2x4, but don't do it often. My first one wore out in several months and would no longer drive a screw. Fits in my side pouch so I can use it for many things. Best for smaller fasteners in electrical lights fixtures and switches and outlets. Also works well for doorknob, deadbolt installations, latches, cabinet hinges, etc. Use in combination with hex drive drill bits, screw tips and small sockets. | 19% Pretty good March 8, 2017 This little puppy is actually better than I thought it would be. It has enough power to impress me, that is with batteries at full charge. I replaced some screws that were longer and this little thing pushed them through the wood pretty good. I really like the collar lock which locks it so it can be used as a regular screwdriver to finish the last little bit. I have to take a star off because why would they not find someway to include a place for the other bit! I am using rubber bands to attach the second drill bit and it looks kind of crummy and is inconvenient. I also do not see any place on Amazon where I can get additional drill bits in this size. But all in all this is a pretty good tool. Like it but has room for improvement... November 16, 2015 I'm happy with this product. The best feature is the AA battery power source instead of using a rechargeable one. I don't like to leave a power tool plugged in at all time for many reasons and if I don't, I risk a possibility of low-power battery when I need it. The driving power is adequate and the batteries do last quite a long time. I gave it it a 4-star instead of 5 because there is room for improvement such as magnetized bit holder and or including a long bit. bad product design. The good news is that it still works well-- October 5, 2015 The old "kitchen" version of this tool had a much longer socket, so that the one bit was a reversible slotted and Philips screwdriver blade. This tool has a much shorter socket, so the reversible blade wobbles badly, and there is no way to store or attach the second (slotted or Philips) blade, ensuring it will get lost. That's really just bad product design. The good news is that it still works well--as long as you can find the right bits for it and keep them attached somehow. Great tool! January 8, 2015 This is a great tool. Got one many years ago as a gift from my (then) little girls. Since I do a lot of building, repair and maintenance, I use a lot of bigger and more powerful tools so, although I really appreciated the thought, I didn't think much of the tool. After a couple of months I used it and since that time it's become a staple I've used for years for handling small jobs. I love the tool. Alas, the girls are both juniors in college and I brought the screwdriver up to campus to do some fixing. Ended up leaving it with one of them and it was only a short time later that I really missed it. I bought another one and used it only a few days later. I had to laugh at some of the reviews criticizing the tool by those who probably don't use it properly for light work. Use it for light jobs and it's a great tool, just don't expect to drive screws through two by fours. I also love the fact that it's not tied to a charger so I can just keep it in my tool kit and use it whenever needed. As to battery life, I've got no complaints. 90% good with one oversight December 14, 2011 The speed of this screwdriver is fine. It even came loaded with batteries. The chuck lock is good when you need more torque than the motor can provide, or if the batteries just run out while you're working. The controls are clear. Can't tell yet about the battery life, but using alkalines will solve one problem--NiCads and NiMH batteries discharging in storage. Only one thing I would change to get this a five-star rating. Either find a place to store the second bit on the screwdriver, or include, instead of two bits, a reversable bit that can be kept in the chuck all the time. I had one like that on a Skill screwdriver about 25 years ago. Can't find it now, though. |
Three Star Reviews: | 4% Low torque and awkward gyro switch... September 5, 2017 First of all, let me preface my review by saying that I am a huge fan of DEWALT products. I have DEWALT saws, drills, etc. So, I am actually biased in favor of the brand. That said...This screwdriver looks and feels great in the hand, plus the gyro switch is certainly a cool factor. HOWEVER, it has very little torque for an 8V battery. If you look at the specifications, the 7.2V DEWALT DW920K has TWICE as much torque. We are talking 80 vs 40. I went to use DEWALT DCF680 to put a screw into the wooden beam and it would not turn at all - flash light would go out and that's it. Maybe I had a defective unit but this is not what you'd expect from an $80 DEWALT tool.... Anyway, just sent mine back and bought DEWALT DW920K instead (thank you, Amazon, for making the exchange so painless!)Also, I found the gyroscopic switch to be very awkward to use - you try to get into a tight space with the tool and now you have to worry about turning it, which is often not easy at all. So, I won't miss this feature in my DW920K... Doesn't have an on and off switch for left and ... September 4, 2017 Doesn't have an on and off switch for left and right it's senses the movement when you turn the handle it doesn't have a lot of torque but then it's only eight volts so you should expect too much middle of the road August 16, 2017 Not very powerful and twist start kind of weird. I like the size and light tho. Good and bad July 23, 2017 I found the torque disappointing (used on Max) compared with the bigger DeWalt screwdriver. The trigger is in an awkward place, and didn”t get used to the gyroscopic system, which is particularly awkward when you have to get the screwdriver just right in a tight spot. I know the gyro is a matter of taste. The whole thing is very light, which can be a real advantage. Neat little screwdriver, wish it had a bit more ... February 1, 2016 Neat little screwdriver, wish it had a bit more torque. I use this for light duty use and keep a 12v system for the whatever driving tasks this cant handle. The extra battery and charger works great for my DeWalt Flashlight so that's why I'm giving ... September 11, 2015 It's just okay. A little hard to get use too. The extra battery and charger works great for my DeWalt Flashlight so that's why I'm giving it 3 stars. | 12% exactly what its meant for. Its a screwdriver - ... June 12, 2017 exactly what its meant for. Its a screwdriver - it functions as one. Cons - no rechargeable battery pack you can purchase, its very loud for what it is, and a bit bulky/heavy (again, for what it is). Other than that - its worth $8. Excellent idea, falls short on the execution. January 19, 2016 If I could just get a bit more torque and a quality gear set, I would gladly pay a couple dollars more. This thing died within the first use trying to break a screw loose on a computer motherboard post mount (ie, didn't need a lot of torque to break loose, but it still shredded the gearset inside), now it has 0 torque to break any bit loose, but it will still work if you break the screw loose manually, which is still really handy. The Best Show in Town, but... August 28, 2015 Powerful motor. I'm accustomed to a pistol grip from a discontinued screwdriver. It's very bulky and heavy... not for tight places. It does come with batteries... that's great. That it doesn't have to be recharged is a blessing for people who use it only occasionally. Forget to put it back on the charger and you're up the creek! The AA cells work out very well and they last. The thing I REALLY don't like is that there is no place to store an extra bit. Most often I have to switch from a blade bit to a Philips bit and back. Putting a bit in your pocket is OK for people with good memories, but my bit will end up in the dryer or washer. A slight gripping indentation on the case could easily solve the problem. WATCH OUT! March 26, 2015 The 10-piece bit set they group with this screwdriver as "Frequently Bought Together" do not fit the screwdriver! And the bits they DO include with the screwdriver are on the large size, too large for the smaller sizes of screws you would expect to be the target for a screwdriver this size. 03/27/2015 - I can't find anywhere, even on the B&D website, where you can order other sizes of driver bits. And as I see on other reviews, it would have been nice to provide some kind of dock holes in the handle to keep the bits in, but no... oh well... whaddya want, for $10 ? Served Its Purpose April 27, 2012 I bought this from Amazon ($9) back during the holidays to help me with assembling a kidcraft children's play kitchen. Did a great job with this assembly. The nice thing about this screw driver was that it came with batteries and was able to perform as described - screwing in screws that don't require alot of torque. It also offered the option to lock the screwdriver so that it can be used manually. Fast forward 3 months - purchased a toddler bed and went to drawer for the black n decker to assist. This time around, the job proved too much for the rotund orange and black power tool. The torque was more than the tool could handle. After setting it to go manual, I had put her back into the drawer and replaced it with my old fashioned handy craftsman screwdriver to finish the job. A little disappointed, but I think you'd be ok if you don't have high expectations. |
Two Star Reviews: | 3% Two Stars August 8, 2017 Disappointing not a lot of tork. can be used for small jobs that don't require a lot. Didn't like it not having a reverse switch July 28, 2017 Returned! Didn't like it not having a reverse switch! ***WARNING*** RECREATIONAL USE ONLY! June 1, 2017 THIS IS NOT A SERIOUS TOOL. I'm an assembler at a bait shop producing our own line of products and have put 2 solid weeks on this unit. It is NOT for high speed production, however it would probably be great for hanging something on the wall or small woodworking projects or working on electronics or firearms. The gyroscopic feature is a gimmick, give me my switch which only takes .05 seconds to actuate for experienced users. If you're running more than 2 screws back to back on a project, you will be soon be throwing this thing out the window. Here's the pros and cons:PROS:Ergonomic, lightweight, locking bit collar, dual led lights really light up your target, impressive battery lifeCONS:Max torque is a #10 self-tapper in 1/4" of HDPE plastic, you WILL be tightening everything again manually after running it down with this. The gyroscopic deal is a disaster, it DOES NOT take "getting used to," it is awkward at best.MAJOR CON:You'll find yourself cussing because you cannot line your bit up with the pattern of the screw since it doesn't start rotating until you start rotating. Drivers with directional switches do NOT have this problem since you can slow-roll it to the correct position.SUMMARY:Do yourself a favor and get something with a switch, or if you need enough torque to tighten a #8 machine screw w/nut. I'm going to have to give this to my wife and get a 12v drill to replace it. By the time i got to use it - i ... March 8, 2017 By the time i got to use it - i discovered that it did not work, the chuck slips and does not spin I wanted to like this drill so bad July 11, 2016 I wanted to like this drill so bad. IN theory this tool is badass. But in the field it just does not hold up. 4 out of 4 times i had to go back out to my service truck and grab my drill case. I could see this being good for Switch plate covers and honestly that's about it. Gyroscopic feature made it very hard to return but again this did not hold up in the field. | 6% Stripped the gearbox, probably March 24, 2017 I like a lot of things about it, and it seemed rugged. Perhaps I took things a little too far trying to tighten some 3/8" bolts with it. In either case, it appears that some gear or something inside must have stripped. It has absolutely no torque anymore, and it just slips ineffectually at the first sign of resistance. I ran it with Eneloop rechargeable batteries and it worked fine. I would return it, but I guess it was sort of my fault that it's broken considering the larger hardware I was trying to use it on. Either way, I'm slightly less than impressed with it. Stupid, shortsighted design flaw - no 2-side bits! January 15, 2017 As others have said, this comes with 2 short stubby bits, with no place to store the one not in use, so it's never there when you need it. And the hole where you insert the bit isn't deep enough to be able to use any 2-sided bits. UNBELIEVABLY STUPID DESIGN! I do like the idea of using AA batteries, as the rechargeable batteries have always failed on other B&D screwdrivers I've used. All they had to do was make the bit hole 1/8" longer. How is it possible that no one realized this during product development? Double Sided Bits Do Not Buy December 19, 2016 I love this product. The only issue I had was that the double drill bits that are suggested to purchase with this do not fit. The bits for this are PH-1. The double sided bits in the multi pack are PH-2. I have tried every which way to get these to fit. They will not. So not buy the double sided bits suggested by Amazon. If it breaks you wont care about throwing it away. December 21, 2015 Very disappointed with Amazon on its handing of selling of this item and not so happy with the item itself. Saw this product while searching for small powered screwdrivers on Amazon listed for $9.73 sold by Amazon, figured 10 dollars not a bad deal, put it in the shopping cart. Came back a couple of days later to finish my shopping order and price went up to $14.48. Not noticing that the seller was switched on me, I completed my purchase and received the product today. Looking at the poor construction of the item (next paragraph) I went to the Amazon product page and there was the item selling for $9.73 which I paid $14.48 for????? Very disappointed with Amazon on this, but you live and learn that you have to constantly watch what you do. The screwdriver is not comfortable in the hand despite what another reviewer ay have said and I am a male with large hands. I can hardly believe the picture of the woman using it whose hands are smaller than mine. There is no lock on the drive, you have to constantly keep pressure on the drive button to power the screw driver. The outer holder where you insert the battery compartment is extremely poorly made and came apart on me when I removed the battery compartment and I had to super glue and pressure the casing together to be able to reinsert the battery compartment. Of course in the doing of this the inner lip of the softer plastic outer casing was caught in the re-insertion of the battery compartment and a piece was hanging out. Getting out the file I had to smooth this down to get the battery compartment to fit properly. Comment made about the bits being loose and easy to lose was very appropriate. For very very light use only! April 19, 2015 I had this for about a day and a half. I figured oh nice! At first. After using it in the inside of my car I switched it to manual mode to lock a screw in tight. Applied a little force and pop. There went the locking mechanism. Figured oh well I can't use it in locked mode I'll just use it in the powered mode. Which it did work for about another 20 min when from there once the screw was in with a little resistance, You could hear the motor but the tip wouldn't screw it was almost as if the teeth that grab the rotating tip were too weak to handle the pressure (which was hardly anything). Fortunately I got a refund. As it's completely useless now. So it may work but make sure that you only use it for very very light projects. Not even semi hard ones. |
One Star Reviews: | 4% TRY tools extensibly before 90-day warranty expires. Conside other brands. October 23, 2017 I bought one but did not use it for a year or so. After starting using it for some light job, it stopped working.Still within 3-year limited warranty, DEWALT said to send it to service center. The center returned itwithout repairing it with "warranty expired." Back to DEWALT, indicated that manager would call me.Never did call. Tried many contacts by phone. He's on vacation, etc. Back to customer service, noreplies back. I was surprised as DEWALT is rated good by consumer reports. So, I do not knowif the switch is defective, the motor is defective, or the accelerometers are defective. Giving up, and will send it back to DEWALT service center for them to use as spare parts, since it is practically new. Doesn’t work out of the box. Missed the return ... October 8, 2017 Doesn’t work out of the box. Missed the return window, because I received it as a gift and didn’t try it out until after return date. Very disappointing. No power June 24, 2017 I have owned 7.2 screwdriver for years loved it but it died. Went to order another and saw this one figured I would get an upgraded version. Couldn't be more disappointed won't even sink a 1 1/4 sheetrock screw just a fancy home owner screwdriver. Going back to the 7.2 Delivered used and didn't work after full charge June 2, 2017 Delivered used. Didn't work after a full charge Disappointed May 20, 2017 Despite a complete charge it goes very slow then speeds up then slow again and that is while it's in your hand not even working with it. I will be returning it | 8% too weak to effective August 25, 2017 There isn't enough tork to be useful. The collet unscrews itself again moderate friction. I used it on ceder, a soft wood, and any knots were an obstruction to this weak tork Had one years ago was great until my son borrowed it April 21, 2016 Had one years ago was great until my son borrowed it. But this one broke first time using it. Was replacing my license plate cover when it was to tough for the power so I locked it and one twist pop no more lock and lack of power pretty much useless. Broke after a few uses December 1, 2015 Broke after a few uses, can't set it to be fixed screwdriver anymore and the motor turning setting doesn't work anymore either. When it did work it worked very weakly and slowly, and couldn't handle much. I always wanted to take out my corded drill instead, and only used this when it would be inconvenient to keep switching drill bits. As this screwdriver is past the date for a refund, very dissatisfied. Charger not included October 27, 2015 Beware this item doesn't come with a charger. Also when I purchased it there was no indication that a charger is bought with it. I bought it in online to save time and ended up with a product I need to spend some time figuring out how to charge it. Hopefully it's easy! BS Drill March 26, 2015 this thing is so terrible it came with a drill tool and screw set in that order. It did not do a great job for me. This drill is battery operated so please do not buy this drill because it will not put up curtains, It will not drill like you want it, it will unscrew not all things, it will not basically do the great work for you .a waste of time placing the order for this during drill |
