Five Star Reviews: | 46% Great alternative to fridge ice maker. July 22, 2016 So far, I am thrilled. Installed yesterday, and completely full today. Cubes are a great size. Connection line included is really long, so provides a lot of flexibility in placement. My Samsung fridge ice maker is terrible and have had 7 service calls already. This is a great alternative. Perfect for outdoor kitchen February 2, 2016 Works great. Built into outdoor kitchen. Small but makes quite a bit of ice for size. When full it fills up plastic grocery bag with ice. No drain needed. No pump needed. Very simple. Same type of cubes as ice maker on fridge inside. Way cheaper than most ice makers I was considering. Very happy with purchase. Photo was taken before countertop installed. has worked well since purchase. Make sure to get ... January 19, 2016 has worked well since purchase. Make sure to get the door closed though- this thing is very cold and quickly freezes condensation from outside air. After almost a year with the ice maker, still going strong. Requires that I cycle it off occasionally to get rid of ice build up, due to folks in the office not getting the doors completely shut. The old model had a slot on the door to hang the ice scoop, this one does not which may be the reason the door doesn't get closed tightly. Ours is permanently hooked up over a drain and I never see condensation or melt. Cool machine...pun intended December 25, 2015 This thing is awesome. Takes about a day for it to get into its groove, but once it does, the ice flows pretty quickly. We hooked it up to an extra washer valve downstairs with about $40 worth of fittings and flexible industrial ice maker hose. Super easy to install with minimal plumbing knowledge and super easy to use. I just hope it lasts for many years to come. I totally recommend it...the family is very happy and enjoying not going to the gas station to buy ice anymore. toss out the first few batches until your ice is clear as is recommended in the instructions August 16, 2015 We've used this at our club house for a month now, no problems so far. Installation was a breeze. On initial use, toss out the first few batches until your ice is clear as is recommended in the instructions. Ice does not stick together, even after sitting for several days. I got 99 problems, but ice ain't one! March 30, 2015 I bought this as we seem to always be in need of extra ice since we bought the fancy french door refrigerator with the ice maker in the door. What they don't tell you when you buy one of those beasts is that the ice maker in them is tiny. We live on the water and spend a lot of time in our boat, so we're always lugging coolers to the local ice place and buying bulk bags. No longer!! This thing CRANKS out the ice and, even though I've only owned it for a week, I don't know how I ever lived without it. I've filled three 20 pound bags and placed two of them in our chest freezer and the other in our fridge for when the fridge can't keep up.I bought the two year service plan on it just in case, and will update the review every 6 months or when appropriate. | 43% our daughter is sure to love hers as well May 29, 2017 We use one of these in our little ice maker...our daughter is sure to love hers as well. Good Price May 6, 2017 Just what we needed. perfect size and durable. For a review you need to write a certain amount of words. This is a scoop! It works July 17, 2016 It scoops ice. Rather shallow scoop so you won't get a huge scoop at a time. Metal is thin, so be careful not bend it. We use it to scoop our Sonic ice into cups. Perfect for us. | 0% There are no reviews yet | 0% There are no reviews yet | 0% There are no reviews yet |
Four Star Reviews: | 16% Good product August 16, 2017 Makes ice very quick. You have to make sure to get the unit level otherwise you will here the motor running. The biggest complaint I have is you have to defrost the unit more than I think you should have too. It does what is says it will do. January 18, 2017 It does what is says it will do. I have to say the ice is very think and melts quickly in drinks but all in all it ok So far so good December 17, 2016 Seems to be good quality and I love the blue interior light. Have only had it running for a month, hopefully will last well which is my main concern. If you need any ice, let me know June 16, 2016 W orks like a charm! We now have plenty of ice on these hot summer days!! The ice maker in our frige died of old age. I installed this unit in a kitchen cabinet and it looks great!! Works awesome and makes lots of ice really fast August 19, 2014 Works awesome and makes lots of ice really fast. The only downside is it uses a lot of electricity to run. But for the pool area BBQ it's great. Just installed April 5, 2014 So far, so good but pretty early to give it a solid review. The unit was relatively easy to install in spite of having to go through three cabinet walls before hookup. As of one day's use, the ice is flowing easily with plenty to meet my needs. I have an under-counter fridge with freezer in a downstairs location. I was frustrated by the need to go there for ice...no longer! I'm happy as a clam so far. Can't give it a 5-star at this early time but maybe later. | 17% I am happy with the purchase September 28, 2017 Arrived on time.. not as heavy as I thought, but overall, I am happy with the purchase. Reasonable for the price April 7, 2017 This is a very cheaply priced item and you get what you pay for but it does work well It has worked out well September 2, 2013 This is a small ice scoop just large enough for filling a glass or plastic tumbler with ice without losing ice cubes over the side. In that job it works perfectly. I was a little disappointed in the handle but after using the scoop for a day or two I realized the handle was perfect. I was expecting a solid handle such as one sees in restaurants but I keep the scoop inside with the ice. If the handle was any thicker, grabbing the handle would have been difficult on the skin. Since the handle is thin like the scoop itself, it heats easily by the warmth of one's hand and causes no problem. I'm happy with it. Scoop-oop-ee-doop. June 27, 2012 Well it's a lovely scoop but I guess I was expecting it to be a bit more hefty and meaty. The scoop works fine for digging cat food out of the bin to put in the cat food bowl, but it wouldn't work really well for bashing in a burglar's head if he were to come barging in the door while I fed the cat. I guess that's not a really realistic scenario but, hey, you never know. | 0% There are no reviews yet | 0% There are no reviews yet | 0% There are no reviews yet |
Three Star Reviews: | 6% Only Complaint is the Noisy Compressor December 26, 2016 I've owned this for a few weeks now and it's pretty decent little ice maker. The frost build up is minimal and I'm glad I bought an inline water filter for this. My only complaint is that it is noisy. I use my living room as my home office and its fairly open to the bar and dining room. The unit is under the bar in a cubby and I can hear it running with its low growl. I am going to put some foam in the cavity and try to cut down on the noise but it is very noticeable. But looks very nice in place and was easy to install October 29, 2016 Produces ice very efficiently, but is a noisy unit. Also, frost develops very quickly and must be continually chipped away to keep door closed tightly. But looks very nice in place and was easy to install. Came dented but works A little loud when making January 1, 2016 Came dented but worksA little loud when making ice Three Stars December 27, 2014 Very big looking for a more portable version. Appeared top of the line!!!! Great ice maker - but died after 2 years March 21, 2014 I searched and searched everywhere for a drain-less, under counter ice maker, and this was the only model I could find. So I bought it and installed in my wet bar. Installation was easy - just used a standard ice maker hose (like you use on a refrigerator) and plug it in to an electrical socket. The first day, it filled up completely within 24 hours. After several months, it is running great. The ice is in half-moon shaped cubes, and is somewhat soft. The compressor kicks on periodically to keep it frozen, but since I have it under the counter, I barely hear it (I don't hear it at all when the TV is on). When full, it holds a decent amount of ice (I'd say about one Igloo Playmate cooler full).I can't believe these are not more popular. I don't understand why all other ice makers have drains - so you make the ice, then slowly watch it melt away. Not efficient and the potential for plumbing/leak issues is high. This little ice maker is simple, easy, and cheap. Highly recommend.UPDATE: Bought in 10/2013, in 05/2016 it died. Started making very loud rattling noises any time the compressor kicked on. I took it apart and reassembled, finding nothing loose. That stopped the rattling for half a day, then it began again. It is something inside the sealed refrigerant system, so I can't repair it. Had to throw it out. Should have figured it would not last long given the price compared to competitors. Ran perfectly up till then, so if you're willing to buy something you know will die 2 years later, buy it. Lowering from 5 to 3 stars due to lifespan. | 18% Not a bad product just not right for me November 12, 2015 It's an ice scooper so you cant really go wrong EXCEPT we keep our ice scooper in the freezer and because the entire thing is metal the handle obviously freezes and can be a bit uncomfortable to use. This problem can EASILY be solved by not storing it in the freezer. Our other scoopers have rubber/plastic handles and keeping them in the freezer works just fine. So if you dont have people who misplace things so that you are "forced" to keep the ice scooper in the freezer near the ice then this is a fine purchase. If you want to keep in freezer i would find one with a rubber handle. Works, barely. September 24, 2014 Much smaller and more flimsy then I expected. Maybe 9" x 3" is more imaginable for someone else, but for those like me who are less volumetrically inclined - it comfortably scoops enough ice for 80% of a small styrofoam cup. I say comfortably in the mathematical sense, actually wielding this thing is more like handling a garden trowel made of curved, cheap plastic. The handle really needs to be more like a rod, and less like a "U," and it really has no heft to it at all. Something you wouldn't think it'd need until you start digging into ice and realize just a little inertia would make a big difference. All in all, you get what you pay for, and if you're looking for a cheapie ice scoop for the office ice-maker, it'll work. To the garden we go January 30, 2013 This scoop is a great value and seems strong and well made. If you need an economy scoop, this is great. I will be using it in the garden instead of the ice bucket however. I found the handle uncomfortable and not nice enough to use during a fancy party. Close examination of the photo should have suggested this to me for the hanging hole reveals the thickness of the handle, which is an open V shaped formed metal. I'll need another scoop for fancy parties, but this will be wonderful in the garden. Cheap, but not awesome January 19, 2013 I bought this because it was one of the cheapest ice scoops on Amazon. It holds maybe four or five large ice cubes (made by my freezer's built-in ice maker), but as pointed out in another review, the back of the handle is not rounded, so the sides of the handle dig into your hand while you hold it. You also don't want to just leave this in your freezer, as it is metal and cool to the touch. So not only is it uncomfortable, but it is not convenient to leave it where you'd want it.I like the capacity, but the next time I buy a scoop, I'm getting plastic. 5 oz maybe July 3, 2012 I purchased this item thinking it was a 6 oz scoop and I ordered another scoop that I thought was of similar quality that was a 4 oz scoop(http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000H0U8A0/ref=oh_details_o01_s02_i01). When I received both scoops I was surprised to see that they were exactly the same scoop, and I would not say either scoop was 6 or 4 oz, I think 5 oz is a better description. The build quality is fine for the price. The scoop and handle are stamped metal and tack welded together, they seem sturdy enough. I have no use experience, I sent them back since they were the wrong sizes for my needs. | 0% There are no reviews yet | 0% There are no reviews yet | 0% There are no reviews yet |
Two Star Reviews: | 13% I would never recommend this ice maker August 15, 2017 We purchased this product and within three months the ice maker started leaking. The company has no repair system in place so you have to pack up the ice maker and return it, at your cost, and send it back to the Whynter Company for repairs. You are also charged $90.00 for repairs and return shipping of $55.00. I would never recommend this ice maker. Pricey Ice maker for two months..... October 20, 2016 I purchased this unit in July of 2016. The first two months it worked flawlessly. The next month it would freeze up every time I had a full tray of ice. So, I would have to turn it off and leave the door open for the ice maker to thaw out. Now, it freezes up every day. So, I have to unplug it, let it thaw out, and see how many cubes it will make before freezing up again. Excitement followed by disappointment October 5, 2015 Whynter UIM-155 Stainless Steel Built-In Ice Maker Machine performed wonderfully for 2 weeks. The bin would fill in about 12 hours, and we transferred the ice to our freezer for use later. Then it started making a ticking noise, faint at first, but becoming a loud clunking with no ice production. Checked the manual (no hints there). Thinking **maybe** the mechanical workings might have iced up, I turned it off with the door open over night to defrost. A short while after turning it back on --- the ticking followed by clunking was back. Checked the manufacturer warranty: 2 months/1 year --- return it to us *in original packaging* within two months and we will reimburse your freight -- next 10 months shipping is all on you. No contact/shipping info provided to start the process. Soooo we are doing the Amazon 30 day return thing. Just printed out the UPS return shipping tag. We will be taking it to the local UPS drop-off.Update: the original packaging has a service email address service@whynter.com Made nice ice, Just not enough September 15, 2013 I sent this back because it would not make more than 3 pounds of ice per day. The company was very helpful and understanding and did not give me trouble with the return. Would have been 4 stars if it had the output the description said. | 11% It's stainless steel from India - NOT the US - ... June 6, 2016 It's stainless steel from India - NOT the US - which is not even close to US stainless steel. Expected to have some weight to it but very light. It scoops ice but very flimsy. Rust and Not the best Quality. March 16, 2016 The area where the handle attaches to the scoop had a small rust spot.It also appeared not attached well. I'm sure it would have come off at some point. Two Stars September 10, 2015 Cheap & thin scoop we will not be using it for ice but maybe for dry dog food. crummy design August 13, 2013 First off, there was a sticker on the handle that took about 30 minutes to remove. I had to spend way too much time and effort rubbing the goo off with nail polish remover. That made me mad! Then, it's so poorly designed that when I use it in a huge bag of cat food, all of it falls off the scoop before I can get it out of the bag.I guess you get what you pay for and cheap is cheap.Don't waste your money. Not as nice as I thought February 5, 2013 Bought these to use for my daughter's wedding. It was much light weight than it appeared online. The handle is not solid so the edges are a bit "sharp". The size was fine and so was the scoop part. I decided to purchase different ones, mainly because of the handle. | 0% There are no reviews yet | 0% There are no reviews yet | 0% There are no reviews yet |
One Star Reviews: | 19% Has never worked properly, producing very thin shells of ... February 14, 2017 Has never worked properly, producing very thin shells of a complete cube. After 6 months does not produce any ice. Going to return fro a refund As soon as plugged in it started making very loud rattling noise! November 8, 2016 We winter in south Florida and purchased this unit in April 2016. We installed it but never plugged it in as we were leaving for the summer. We returned Nov 1st and as soon as we plugged the unit in it started loud rattling noise. I pulled the unit out and checked for loose parts but the noise is inside the metal canister (whatever that is). I contacted manufacture and they said the only thing I could do is pack it in original box and ship it to Southern California at my expense! There are no other options for service! Of course I don't have box so they sent page full of details on how to package it. I then asked if there is a place anywhere in Florida I could take it and pay for repair, they said it had to go to Southern California. I'll be making my purchases from local dealers from now on! Disappointed with ice maker!!!! October 9, 2016 this is an absolutely worthless ice maker. Has a mind of it's own. We have hardly been able to have any ice cubes.Do not buy this product. Damaged Product February 25, 2016 Currently in process of building house. Damage was not discovered until product was being installed. Unfortunately, product was not installed until approximately two months after ordering, thus unable to return. Only worked for about 3 weeks, ice maker mechanism ... December 28, 2015 Only worked for about 3 weeks, ice maker mechanism does not work, tried to thaw repeatedly - freezing isn't the problem. Avoid the attractive price, it is not worth the headache August 28, 2015 The first unit stopped making ice within the first 3-4 days so I used the Amazon return to get another one. Just plugged that one in and it won't get cold in the unit. Done with this unit. In this case you don't even get what you pay for. At a few hundred bucks this thing should run for a year or two. Bite the bullet and get a real nice one that will last 20 years. | 11% Not as expected September 19, 2017 It's very shallow and doesn't hold much ice/product in the scoop. I'll see how it holds up. It's very light and doesn't seem sturdy. not good for picking up ice June 19, 2017 Very flat scoop...not good for picking up ice...that's for sure. Shiny bright but shoddy construction. February 18, 2016 The scoop size is good and the finish is bright but the handle quality and attachment is less than desirable. Be careful of the unfinished edges on the stamped out handle. The handle on this scoop is very uncomfortable with an ... November 20, 2015 The handle on this scoop is very uncomfortable with an open bottom, not rounded, and edges somewhat sharp. Also, the scoop itself is shallow and only holds a few cubes. It might work for some but not for me. Broke after one use scooping cereal February 9, 2013 Bought two of these for my farmers market business, and the first one broke after scooping granola out of a bucket! The handle is screwed on to the scoop, so it's not all one piece which I didn't realize from the picture, which probably contributes to the instability. Returned and will not buy again. | 0% There are no reviews yet | 0% There are no reviews yet | 0% There are no reviews yet |
