Five Star Reviews: | 68% Absolutely the best weeding hoe I've ever used June 1, 2017 Absolutely the best weeding hoe I've ever used. Employees of a local landscaping company have been weeding gardens in our neighborhood this week and have borrowed it to make their work easier. That's about the finest endorsement I can think of. Great for cutting weeds and leveling the ground March 27, 2017 My neighbor saw me pulling weeds and insisted that I use his weeder. He wouldn't take no for an answer and came back with this weird contraption. I thanked him, just to be nice, and started using it. Oh My Goodness! This thing was amazing! I got rid of the weeds in no time and had a clear patch for landscaping.I searched all over for one of these, but the local HD and hardware stores simply don't carry it. Why? I searched on Amazon, but didn't find it until one day while browsing for some other item.Yep, this is it. I've used it to clear more weeds and it cuts them so fast. I can even level the ground with this. I don't have any problems with the design or the construction of the hoe, but I've only used it a few times. Hope it doesn't fall apart on me. Best hoe around! September 1, 2016 This is not a field hoe but it is the best weeder I have ever had. The points allow you to get right next to plants and cut weeds. It does cut push pull or side to side. It is rugged enough to cut sod. I would recommend this hoe to anyone as a weeder. Great weeder May 4, 2016 This is like a handheld diamond shaped weeder I had decades ago (before I had aching shoulder and back and knees). It is very lightweight and easy to wield (I am 60+) from a standing position. It has two helpful uses: horizontally, it can "mow" weeds from their roots either pulling or pushing the blade; and vertically, it can cultivate/till (sort of) the top two inches of soil at the beginning of the season, in prepration for fertilizing and seeding. Very glad I got this. Well worth the price. I have been gardening for 30+ years using a planter's ... April 25, 2016 I have been gardening for 30+ years using a planter's hoe and a regular hoe. After several weeks of use, this is now the one I have with me as I walk thru the garden everyday. I wish I would have bought one long ago. Best Hoe for Weeding Out There July 2, 2011 The secret to this hoe is technique and timing. It's great for weeding between rows and even between plants. But the real secret is in the blade design. By keeping the blade just barely beneath the surface as you push and pull back and forth, the newly germinating seed stock is eliminated without turning up new seeds to the surface. One time through with this tool and very few weeds will be coming around again in that area. | 67% PERFECT September 11, 2016 PERFECT for getting rid of weeds in the back yard. While I've seen some negative reviews, if you use this hoe correctly it will not disappoint. It brought the little weeds in our big yard up with just gentle back and forth motion. And for the larger weeds, it laid them flat and I could see them for easily pulling up by hand. Took just a little bit more than an hour to go from vacant lot look to a gorgeous back yard! But remember, use it gently, don't force it and try to use like a traditional hoe. Easy to use, does what it says. July 26, 2016 Great product and good quality. I had a Rose of Sharon that dropped seedlings all throughout my garden. Hundreds of little seedlings/weeds to pull - ugh! This made light work of it, and was easy to use even after a topcoat of peat moss that I didn't want to disturb too much. It definitely helps to have good/loose soil. Our veggie garden was a LOT easier to weed with this tool (a lot less muscle/effort needed), than the Rose of Sharon spot. Either way - great addition to my garden tools. Amazingly useful May 26, 2016 This is the best weeded I have ever used! I read about it in a gardening newspaper column and got one. SO glad I did!It can "shuffle" back and forth to quickly clear small weeds, or be used as if it was a conventional hoe. It clearly can be sharpened, but I have not felt the need. Nice and Easy to Use August 9, 2015 This hoe doesn't chop and won't cut through hard soil but if your soil isn't too hard it will slide through with ease and will cut off weeds below the soil line. It is also good for heavily mulched beds where weeds are growing in or through the mulch. My only small complaint is that it could be a bit sharper when delivered. A minute or two with a file (the same as I use on my shovels and spades) takes care of that. Amazing! July 13, 2015 I thought my vegetable garden was a lost cause. It was a solid patch of weeks and grass (see photo) This got every single weed right up to the plants. I am blown away! Photo is before, during and after. As the weeds bleed. May 14, 2015 So many weeds are brought to their maker as I wield this mighty weapon. I cry to the heavens in victory as I roam amongst their green carcasses and revel in the lamentations of their brethren. |
Four Star Reviews: | 19% This is good mostly for surface weeds April 14, 2017 This is good mostly for surface weeds; if you need to dig for roots, a regular hoe is better. Also, the blades are super sharp; keep this hoe away from the kids! No sheath??!!! December 25, 2016 This is an awesome garden tool. A must have for a market garden. Only reason why i gave it 4 stars is because it came with NO SHEATH!! A tool this sharp should not be sold without a good sheath. I'm looking at making one out of 2 sections of PVC pipes with bungee cords holding em to the blade. The item was shipped poorly and both tips were slightly bent, nothing a file cant fix. The handle is heavy duty and has a great finish, feels like a solid tool in your hands. Weeds like a champ and cuts fast even through larger weeds. This is a fine and cleverly designed hoe which work well -- but ... December 14, 2016 This is a fine and cleverly designed hoe which work well -- but one star less because on hillsides it not only cuts weeds, it also pulls dirt downhill which you certainly don't want to be doing on a hillside where you've planted to hold the earth in place. This would be a problem with all such hoes, I suppose, and not just this one. But it's my experience with the hoe. As for it's design and how it works, it's very good. The diamond shape is kind of clever since it allows you to wiggle it around to cut weeds below the surface and even cut very small roots, but it's also a lightweight head (the handle is solid wood so the entire hoe is not that light -- warning) that isn't difficult to move around. It's very good -- but I'm a bit bummed by the problem of pulling dirt downhill when I use it on my hillside, so I may go back to more hand weeding which is more gentle. If I can stay balanced on the hillside! The hoe blade itself is fantastic! The only thing I don't like is it's ... June 5, 2016 The hoe blade itself is fantastic! The only thing I don't like is it's angled for short people or children. I have to bend WAY DOWN to get the right angle on this thing to work right. Even with that, this blade is so sharp its still easier to use than a regular hoe. But it's a Great weeding tool Iwish I'd gotten two of these instead ... August 2, 2015 The only reason it got 4 stars is it should come with a cover of some sort for putting over the head during transport, I have to go from my house to an exteranl site garden and a cover would help a lot, I end up taping a plastic bag or cardboard over it as it's in the car with my grandkids, it's too long for the trunk, But it's a Great weeding tool Iwish I'd gotten two of these instead of the hula hoe that really just didn't work, I work my garden with someone else usually and we need two efficient weeders, get two!!, go this route if you need two, or just one. it does the job. and very easy to sharpen, I did not have to sand the handle it was fine, I did lightly sharpen the blade and clean and lightly oil it if necessary in between uses. It's a very nice, very sharp tool. The blade sharpness and pointed tips make delicate weed removal ... May 26, 2015 The blade sharpness and pointed tips make delicate weed removal much easier. The low blade angle cited in many other reviews requires slight stooping (resulting in a sore back) for the blade to efficiently contact the soil surface and smoothly slide below the soil surface while both pushing and pulling the hoe. | 15% A must have tool... July 3, 2017 So... I started out buying just one of these hula-ho's..... we used it last summer in my parents garden. They were weeding by hand and it took 3 people 5 hours. This spring I bought 2 more. We now have 3 of these and 3 people can weed the garden in 45 minutes. WHAT AN AMAZING TOOL !!!I'm giving 4 stars and not 5..... because of two reasons.Reason 1.... the sticker that they put on the nice wood shaft... will NOT peel off nicely. It leaves a frickin mess all over the handle. Why not use an elastic band and a card, that can be added to the metal end ?!?!?Reason 2.... I'm 6' and find the handle a little short. Would be nice if they offered a "long" version that is 8-10" longer. The handle is good length and it does work on little weeds March 3, 2017 It works on small patches of weeds not the big deep ones. The handle is good length and it does work on little weeds. Best for open spaces August 16, 2016 I have tendonitis in both of my wrists so that opening a bottle is sometimes a feat I can't handle. However, the previous owner of our house was REALLY into gardening and left us with several large gardens. This tool is good at scraping weeds off a large area of my garden and really is easier on my back and wrists than more traditional methods. However, it definitely does not work well in the corners or edges where my garden touches the stone patio and walkway. Those still have to be done by hand. I imagine it would also be awkward and difficult to navigate between closely placed delicate plants. It's probably at its most useful in new gardens-- either unplanted areas or before your plants grow too tall in the spring. It's a good tool and I would definitely order it again--just be sure it fits your needs. Good for weeding in garden boxes August 18, 2015 This hula-ho is a good quality weeder that works best in softer soils like in my garden box. It works very well and quickly loosens weeds so they can be removed from the garden. It is not effective for weeding areas of the landscaping where the ground is more compact and harder. It doesn't have have sharp edges so it's not going to cut through anything. Overall, I am pleased with this product but it will not be the only weeding hoe I use in my yard. Works as advertised but not a miracle. September 12, 2014 Edited Review:This is a great tool until you understand this only works for small weeds. I was disappointed at first as once anything that has built a thick taproot you will need to whack the dirt repeatedly to chop it up, no better than using a hoe. I live in an area with clay dirt that turns rock hard once it stops raining and this thing barely scratches the dirt so only the smallest weeds/seedlings will get cut. It works great for that purpose but you have to keep doing it several times a week because once they get too big, you may as well get back on your knees and start pulling or get the awful out of the shed. So, lesson learned, weed 1-2x a week and it's an easy quick job but if you skip that and let a few weeks go by, then time to get on your knees.I can see this being effective if you have soft dirt or work with raised beds. Best tool I know for weeding without bending February 3, 2012 I had one of these that I used for years but gave it away when we relocated. At that point, after some 15 years, the blade was losing its edge. The new one appears to be of similar quality and should hold up just as well. The wood handle feels smooth and sturdy. |
Three Star Reviews: | 9% Limited to nice gardens April 26, 2017 I was skeptical but took the plunge anyway. I needed something that could efficiently clear thin stalk brush in typical Southern California soil. Anything that wasn't more than maybe 1/8" thick just bent over instead of getting cut, which then led me to apply the blade closer or at ground level which still didn't help much, but then the sparse gravel began to do a number on the blade. I guess this might work alright for garden weeds, but for California brush, I feel suckered for what I paid. Great in fuction and poor in quality! April 1, 2017 I have several different types of hoe's, Hula, Push, Delta Wing, this hoe is the easiest hoe that I've ever used. Cuts weeds like butter! The only negative is the blade fell off almost immediately. I have a welder and welded it on the handle. The spot welds that they assemble with are weak. In function, this is the best hoe that I've ever used but the Corona company has some poor workmanship. Blade isn't that sharp so it requires extra sharpening. ... February 6, 2017 Blade isn't that sharp so it requires extra sharpening. My biggest gripe is the angle of the bend. I'm 6' tall and have to stoop way over to make the blade level with the ground. So-so hoe! August 11, 2015 I was not impressed with this hoe. I do not like it....but my husband does. It is not the quality as my Rogue brand hoe. If you do not have to hoe very often then this one would be fine....but I have a large garden and my Rogue brand has held up for several years. Don't know if this one will last for years. It's started to rust and only bought it this summer. Well made tool/weapon! June 24, 2014 This is a well made tool and will good at skimming away emerging weeds but children should NEVER have access to it because the blade is extremely sharp and the tips come to deadly points. It is NOT a toy but youngsters could easily be tempted to play swords with it.It could be a valuable tool for professional gardeners but has no place in a home with young unsupervised children.k Fair to good. April 11, 2013 It is kind of like using a submarine to squelch something on the surface. It is fair and at sometimes a bit better. There is a tool available (but just once per year if you are really fast) locally that I think would be much superior but it is handmade from hardened steel. I'll try to be faster next spring! | 8% It really is better for yards with grass and weeds October 8, 2017 It really is better for yards with grass and weeds. I have a desert landscape and the weeds are tougher to get out. But this can help with eliminating some "getting down and dirty with weeds" November 12, 2016 I get more satisfaction to pull weeds. But this can help with eliminating some "getting down and dirty with weeds" I'll need to work on it before I use it July 6, 2016 I've had these before and they do work great. Unfortunately, the one I ordered here is bent out of shape and is quite dull. The others I've had came sharpened. I suppose I'll be able to bend it back into shape when I clamp it up in my vise to relieve it of i's dull edges... Questionable quality July 5, 2016 I think I will probably sharpen it and the handle has a little wiggle that I am afraid will cause it to soon come off the handle. Wish I had gotten the fiberglass one. Works well for small weeds but not tough roots April 14, 2015 Works well for weeds that have just sprouted and is a good size for between rows of beets and lettuce. However it doesn't tear through strong rooted plants well (clover or dandelions especially). So ita not quite the miracle hoe I had heard about but still works well for breaking up soil between newly sprouted seedlings. |
Two Star Reviews: | 2% Just barely okay hoe, needs an angle adjustment April 10, 2015 I have updated this review after more experience with this hoe.It works OK on ground that is somewhat damp. To use it, slip the blade into the top half-inch of soil and slide it forward and backward. The forward stroke does most of the cutting while the back stroke acts more to rake the stuff already cut. This action kills two birds with one stone by loosening the top half-inch of soil, prepping it for seeding. However, prepare to sweat if you have a large area to weed. Forget it if you have an area of rock-hard, dry soil.I agree with other reviewers that the angle is a bit much. I'm 5'5" and have to hold the handle near the end and stoop a little to keep the blade parallel with the ground.Since purchasing this hoe, I found two Barebones hoes at a local garden center that do a much, much better job, the square and the triangle long-handles hoes. My only problems with those hoes are the prices and the handles being only 48" long. meh.... July 4, 2012 This hoe doesn't perform as well as my simple stirrup hoe. The angle just seems to not be right, and I feel like I'm often fighting with the hoe more than having it work with me. It was very sharp (a good thing)- I made a little cover for the tip out of an old pool noodle so that no one would get speared in the tool rack. But I think I'll just be looking for a new stirrup hoe next, mine just needs retirement. | 4% This Hula-Ho doesn't have a sharp edge to cut the ... September 15, 2016 This Hula-Ho doesn't have a sharp edge to cut the roots, so you're having to really use elbow grease in order to have it work. And just fair at that. Also, I feel the durability is weak. Ames Action Hoe is a better design, is of heavier duty construction August 24, 2016 Returned this due to the way it's constructed. It might be okay for light duty use but does not seem it would hold up over time. The screws which hold the blade to the yoke and the brad that holds the yoke to handle seemed to me to be too lightweight and susceptible to failure. Ames Action Hoe is a better design, is of heavier duty construction, and costs less. Disappointed August 9, 2016 Very disappointed in this weeder. Perhaps the wrong hoe for my purposes.Quality seems ok, but not a good choice for small spaces. Used once andthen went on vacation, so waited too long to return it, unfortunately. Two Stars October 30, 2015 This does not work for my California tumble weeds. It is well made but not productive to my needs. Hula-Ho a disappointment June 15, 2014 After reading other reviews I expected a much better experience. I tried weeding my already tilled garden, but it would't cut through the dirt. The Hula-Ho doesn't have much of a sharp edge at all. Will try to sharpen and see if it works better. Disappointed March 17, 2013 This is the first item purchased from Amazon that didn't meet my standards. Poorly constructed. Two small screws barely hold cultivator to wood handle. Manufacturer took a short cut that renders this item useless. Plan on replacing with longer screws, washers and nut bolts. Less than $2.00 may make this a sturdy weeder. Poor quality control! Additionally, received in large box with kraft paper loosely draped only on one side of carton. Too may short cuts from start to finish! |
One Star Reviews: | 2% Don't waste your money April 18, 2017 This is the worst quality product I have ever bought on Amazon. I used it three times, about once a month, and it worked great the first two times. The third time, the wood pole just snapped off clean at the metal base. Can't even return it since there is apparently no quality guarantee. Going to see if I can get a refund through my AMEX card. Don't buy this. great concept but... March 30, 2015 Great concept BUT the angle is all wrong. The tool is useless because of how the diamond head is positioned on the handle. I made the mistake of not using it until it was too late to return it. So I am stuck with it, I may try to get a welder friend of mine to fix it; if he cannot it will go into the trash. | 6% Do not buy July 30, 2016 This tool would not last an hour in my garden. It is made of cheap metal and the welds on the cheap metal are very poor. Junk June 14, 2016 A total piece of junk......flimsy and loosely held by 2 screws that are do not go all the way through the piece. The wood handle is the best part of this product. Returning it right away. REJECT before you buy! May 19, 2016 Sadly, I sent it right back! Should have read the poor reviews. This tool is not only a poor design, it's badly made. The only quality thing is the handle! The rest is so flimsey you could twist it "blade" by hand. There are lifetime quality ones on Amazon (which I now have ordered). Slightly more expensive, but you get what you pay for. My garden and back are worth it! Really Bad Products January 7, 2016 Lose screws, floppy blade, poorly assembled. Had to drill out sheet metal holes and put in correct fasteners. Wood handle was only part that was satisfactory. Would not recommend another purchase from this company; tools are of poor quality. Claims made in the USA...but it looks like much lower quality and clearly not American craftsmanship. Lowes or Home depot has better tools for the same cost. Should have gone there first. Big mistake to use Amazon Prime for this purchase. Just junk product. Thought I would save the 20 mile drive. Should have gone to Home Depot. For gental use only November 13, 2015 This hoe is flimsy, over priced. It has 1 tiny nail holding head to handel, wood seams weak, great for grandma. I went to the hardware store and bought a real hoe. This type item is hard to buy from a photo.I would never have purchased this if I saw it in person. |
