Worked Like a Charm in Europe! Will Be Ordering a Second One
May 26, 2016
Worked great in Europe! I didn't know it came with its own adapter (I guess I didn't read that in the product info), so that was a bonus, and I didn't even need the adapter set I'd bought to go with it. I don't know if I used it correctly, but I put it on the high setting for my hair dryer and the low setting for small electronics (camera, phone, etc), and it worked like a charm. Will be ordering another one before my next Europe trip so I can charge more than one thing at a time.
Does Its Job: Simran1875 Watts International Travel Voltage Converter for 110V [Model #SM1875]
October 25, 2013
This small little converter [Model #SM1875] did its job without a problem. We needed to useit for our hair driers and, well, we were able to dry our hair. It's a good thing when you arevisiting an Asian country in the summer and it is 85 degrees with 75 percent humidity, everyday we were there.I found that the converter did run a bit warm but seemed to be no problem with repeateduse. I could still handle the converter after it was used. Definitely unplug the device afterevery use though. Good idea in any case.So I can easily give this little Voltage Converter 5 stars for doing it's job without a problem.Well worth the cash to keep my electronics from frying even though it is fuse protected.Who wants to go looking for a fuse in a foreign country?

Great International Travel Power Adapter! Must Have!
December 26, 2016
This is a great travel power adapter that will actually ensure your electronics don't get destroyed when abroad.!I have used this product multiple times abroad with no issues. One of the best things about this product is the multiple outlets and USB outputs available - meaning you can charge multiple devices at once. Furthermore, this device actually ensures the correct voltage and what not is delivered to your electronic devices, thus avoiding the concerns of damaging your expensive items. I highly recommend getting this product if you tend to travel a lot and carry enough electronic devices that require some frequent recharging.Pros:Many outputs (USB and standard USA outlet)Many adapters (Caters to many different countries and types of outlets)Voltage Regulator (Ensures your equipment will also receive the right amount of volts)Decent length power cord (Great if you want to have easy access to the ports without having to be near the originating power outlet)Over current and temperature protection (Must have to avoid electronic destruction)Not heavyCons:Not really too much of a con but this device does have a small operating fan to regulate its operational temperature. This will pretty much be seen on any other products that offer voltage conversion, over current protection, and temperature protection. It isn't too loud and can be utilized at night without disturbing any sleeping person. It is a small cost compared to all the benefits this device offers
Great for home AND abroad
June 4, 2016
The converter worked exceptionally well on my recent trip to the UK. I over-prepared by also buying a set of three Type G plug adapters, which I wound up never using, as the BESTEK 200W Travel Power Converter was all I needed (and it comes with it's own set of plug adapters for all regions). I stayed in 2 hotels and 3 B&B's on my trip and in 4 of the 5 places, I only had access to one outlet anyway. Yet I needed to plug in at least three items (sometimes 4) each night. I made use of the outlets and a USB charging port, together, and everything charged up perfectly. The fan sound didn't bother me at all.The box that holds the converter, cord and adapters is compact and packed easily in my suitcase. In fact, I'm so pleased with the weight and size of the converter that I'm thinking it's just as ideally suited as a compact power-strip/surge protector for an upcoming trip to the family's cabin where we're all competing for outlets with all of our devices. I've always traveled with bigger power strips within the U.S. because most hotels or family guest rooms fail to provide enough outlets for charging all of my electronics. Now this device gives me all the connections I need, wherever I go.
Hero-status, confirmed.
February 18, 2016
Have you ever wanted to be a superhero? Have people chant your name, while cheering your existence? All you merely need to do is travel through airports with this in your carry-on, and you'll be the hero everyone didn't know they needed.Aww, rugrat stole the last outlet in the nearby vacinity of your departure gate? No sweat! Plug this puppy in (there's an adapter so the plug can work in US outlets), and suddenly you can charge ALL THE THINGS!Outside of the airport, I was my family's hero because no one fought over who was charging what and when... We could charge 3 phones, 3 tablets, and a couple battery packs all overnight without having to wake up and swap whatever needed charging. My only criticism is that it doesn't come with a carrying case or something for corralling the plug adapters because while my super power is having outlets in my backpack, my kryptonite is losing things.
Highly Versatile Device That Eliminates The Need For Other Power Adapters
January 2, 2016
If you are like me and travel frequently and find that many hotels in foreign countries have only a limited number of power outlets which makes charging or plugging in multiple devices a pain, the BESTEK portable power strip/power adapter is a great solution.I also love not having to bring along several different power adapters for different devices. The BESTEK allows me to only use one outlet with the included adapter which I can then plug multiple devices into to share power. This works great with my Mac Book Air, powered USB hub, iPhone(s), iPad and other electronics since it has 3 regular US style outlets and several USB ports. If there is a downside to this device it would be the cooling fan which can be a bit loud if your room is really quiet, but it is not so loud that it creates background noise that can be disruptive when on voice/video calls.I highly recommend the BESTEK if you have plans to travel internationally and are having problems either finding power adapters or do not want to carry several different ones for your different devices.Oh and save the box it comes in, works as a great storage and transport container.
Amazing! So many ports :D
July 28, 2015
We traveled from the USA to the UK for two weeks. This adapter and setup was amazing! There is no noticeable change in charging speed, even with lots of devices plugged in. We used it in the airport, on the train, and the entire family made use of it at the house. It seems a little pricey, compared to the one-outlet converters, but it was well worth it. With two people you have two phones and two computers, already that is four outlets and four converters if you want to charge everything at onceThe USB ports are very, very convenient! There are two 1A and two 2.4A ports, so any USB device can get ample power.Only potential con: it has a fan to keep it cool (which is good), but it is a little noisy. But, plugging it in somewhere besides the bedroom negates this issue. You quickly forget about the noise after you first turn it on.Overall great purchase and I would highly recommend if you are traveling with more than one person!
Mom always said yes you get what you pay for...

And this is money well spent! First off, the other reviews made me think the fan on this unit was going to be louder than a rocket taking off and it's not! You have to be one heck of a light sleeper to be kept awake by this little bit of noise! Also, the photo of the unit makes it seem that there's an enormous amount of space between the plug and there is! Charging my camera batteries will now be a breeze! With the ample amount of plug ins, the fan to prevent over heating, and the built in step down converter why would you buy anything else!?!??!! This will be the first thing packed for my three week trip to Europe! I might update the review after if I remember :) Have a great day and please don't hesitate to buy! This product is spectacular!

May 29, 2016
I used this on a trip to Spain and Portugal in May 2016 and it worked great with my professional hairdryer. As is it won't work with the recessed plugs, but if you put a second universal adapter on the end it works great. I wish I would have used it for my curling iron as well-I didn't and it no longer works.
This worked fine in Europe for my wife's 400-Watt curlers set
November 23, 2014
This worked fine in Europe for my wife's 400-Watt curlers set. We were careful to slide the switch from the 50 watts setting to the higher setting. We did hear a very faint hum or buzz, but, after using the curlers set with the converter at least 10 mornings in Switzerland and France, the set was still okay back here in the States. In an apartment in Geneva, Switzerland, we plugged one of our Ceptics Grounded Universal Plug Adapters into an outlet and then plugged this Simran Voltage Converter into the Adaptor and then plugged the curlers cord into the Converter. In France, in a Holiday Inn, we plugged a small plug extension (This Converter comes with one) into an outlet, then plugged this converter into that - no problem.
Works for me!
September 28, 2013
Just finished 30 day trip to Italy, used two different types to do the job, this one cheaper because doesn't have high voltage setting for hair dryers, etc, and found the others weren't necessary as most places in Europe seem to either provide 220 plugs or actually have dryers for guest use. This one worked just fine, kept our phones, Kindle, etc., all well charged. No problems at all... I'd probably rate it 5 stars if I could find it in my heart to LOVE any International Travel Voltage Converter. (OK to like, but what's to love?)
Works for low-current items
August 5, 2010
We took this converter to Europe (Spain, France, and UK) and Turkey recently. I only plugged into it an energizer AA/AAA battery charger (that's the only device I own that is not 110V/220V). The converter worked well and charged the batteries without any trouble (on the LOW setting) and it did not get hot at all.Now for the only drawback that took off 1 star: It is rare to find a plug which accepts this converter as almost all plugs in Europe are are recessed (about an inch inside the wall). That means I had to plug this converter into an adapter which is compatible with the walls (see http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001MGUB9Q which I got lucky with as it was a supersaver shipping item when I got it). Now, although the converter does not feel heavy at all, when plugged into an adapter, it tends to pull down on it so that both would fall or get detached from the outlet. I had to resort to creative ways to hold them up attached to the wall by letting them lean on something. Anyway, besides that, I had no trouble, but I really wish the maker would install better plugs on the device.Just to be clear, even if you find non-recessed outlets, this converter has plugs only for European countries other than the UK. You would need an Europe-UK adapter for the UK since the converter would function properly, but would need to be plugged in to UK style outlets. In summary, I'd say have this product WITH a plug adapter at all times.

Note for cell phone users
September 7, 2017
IF you are looking to charge your cell phone/tablet note that most modern devices are 220v/110v compatible. A cheap plug adapter for your existing charger may be all you need. The small print on the wall plug part will confirm. We added a $20 6 port USB charger (also 220/110) and kept the i-phone and android devices happy all at once. This converter is fine if you need to run grandpa's old nose hair trimmer, but the fan running all the time means you may not want to leave it on at night.
Good for extended travel, and when you need something more than using USB ports from your laptops.
March 9, 2017
Worked perfectly on a visit to CH/Switzerland; allowed us to keep my family's 3 iPhone's charged (via the 4 available USB ports), and still left 3 USA plugs available for other uses.It has a fan, ostensibly to ensure the built-in transformer is kept cool; so it is somewhat noisy. We kept it out of the bedroom for that reason. When using the non-USB ports, you should be paying attention to the Wattage consumption of everything plugged-in to this unit; probably not a good idea to use with high-wattage things, like hair-dryers. Anything using USB ports is safe, as a general rule. This was not an issue for me.
Perfect when traveling with many devices
April 25, 2016
Recently took this on a trip to Ireland, and what we found is that there were precious few outlets in our hotel rooms, so having this (which utilizes a single outlet) rather than everyone each packing handfuls of adapter plugs to charge all their devices was definitely a benefit. Having all those USB ports for charging phones and tablets especially kept everyone in the family happy. This unit might be a bit too much bulk for a solo traveler, but for a business traveler carrying a lot electronics, or a family with many devices, this item definitely meets the need.
Took care of our electronics with no problems. Does'nt work with straight irons, nor hair dryers.
August 7, 2015
This was my second attempt at a converter. The first one was the Rockstone Power 500 Watt Heavy Duty Step Up/Step Down converter. My wife took one look at it, and said "You've GOT TO BE KIDDING". Its bigger, and heavier than this converter, but it probably would have handled her straight iron, while this one didn't.But, this one is lighter, and converts 220 or 240 50 Hz power to 110 60 Hz power, and the other one's output frequency will be the same as its input frequency, so the 110 60Hz appliances will draw more power at 110 50 Hz, and the 220 50Hz appliances will draw less power at 60 Hz.I tried it out for the first time at our first hotel in Paris. We were in the lobby, and my wife needed her phone charged. Before I plugged it in, I said "Well, if the power in this hotel goes out, we'll know why", but it plugged in and turned on with no problems. It has 4 built in USB charging ports, 2 are 2.4 Amp, and two are 1.2 Amp. There was a little piece of metal somewhat blocking one of the higher power ports, but I was able to bend it out of the way. As far as I could tell, all four of the ports work fine. All three 110 V AC outlets worked fine, except with my wife's 35 Watt Straight Iron. I use a timer to make sure our iPhones don't overcharge, and it seemed to keep perfect time when plugged into the converter. I also brought a clock radio with ambient sounds that I use to mask my tinnitus at night. I didn't need the sounds much because the converter makes a soft buzz when its on that perfectly masks the noise in my ears. And, the buzz didn't seem to bother my wife, either. She says my normal masking sounds bother her.I'm giving it four stars because it didn't support my wife's 35 Watt Flat Iron. The sockets all worked for our electronics with no problems, before and after trying the flat iron in each of them, and her flat iron works fine on 110 V 60 Hz wall power.Edit: 22 Sept 2015I didn't notice the disclaimer about not using the adapter with flat irons and hair dryers when I ordered this. I remember scouring the product information, and if I remember correctly, it said it would work; especially since my wife's flat iron is only 35 Watts.I guess we were lucky, as the iron didn't even power on when we tried it. Not even a light. I'm glad it didn't draw enough current to ruin it, as others have reported. I'm leaving the review at 4 stars because I'm rating it wrt the original product description. As a side note, the hotel blow dryers barely blow any air. I think you'd be better off going to a department or drug store and getting a cheap blow dryer and flat iron that runs on local current.
Fan and LED can be annoying
August 4, 2015
I took this portable 6A Max Travel Adapter and Power Converter on a 2 week trip to Europe. This was my first trip overseas and I spent a long time trying to make sure it was the right adapter and power rating. Well, the "europlug" adapter as they call it, fits in F, E, L, C, J plug types and no adapter is needed. I traveled to Italy, Austria, Czech Republic, and Greece and was able to use this adapter in all countries with no problems. I made sure to let my girlfriend plug it in first to make sure it worked. The fan is pretty noisy, which caused me to deduct a star. The LED power indicator is also pretty bright which can cause a problem at night especially in hostels where there is usually a plug right by your head when you sleep.Bring your US adapter as well so you can still use this device when you're stateside and also to charge any euro-devices for your new friends if they didn't bring a charger!I also have charged my iPhone 5 through the 1A USB port with no problem.Remember, this steps down the Europe wall voltage from 240V to 110V in case you have any electronics that aren't rated for higher than 110V. This will make it safe if you aren't sure.
Worked in Paris, France; Florence, Italy; the Netherlands, Kenya, China, Scotland, U.K.
April 6, 2015
I've read other reviews before purchasing this adapter and converter. I've considered other models/manufacturers until I was persuaded to try this partcular one for the price, small footprint, and prior positive reviews. My impressions from using this converter/adapter:The humming sound:Some reviewers had posted about the humming noise from the fan when the adapter is operational. The unit gets warm when it operates; hence, the need for the fan to cool the internal components. Let me say that there will be a high pitch humming sound audible from a distance of about a foot to 2 feet. I've had the unit running overnight without problems and without hearing the humming sound across the room.Operation/Performance:I had used the converter on a trip to Florence in March and worked flawlessly. Turned the power button on and I was able to charged my laptop, ipod. Didn't have a mobile phone to charge but I suppose it would have worked, as well. I've only had to use one of the adapter plugs in Italy.Size/Footprint/Weight:The unit is adequately sized. I estimate it to weigh about 1.25 lbs. The dimensions were not terribly large; it fit in my carry-on, tucked on top of the clothes.Improvements:Although I am happy with the converter, there are always some room for improvements: the power cord could have been designed better (it was a nuisance to fold back into the cardboard case). Also, a sturdy carrying case would have been a nice addition for which I would gladly pay for.Overall, for the price and performance, I am very happy with the purchase which I'll bring along on future trips.Ciao, Italia.

Big and bulky, but functional.
March 22, 2017
Definitely functional and does its job, but it's just so BIG. Compared to other voltage converters this thing is super bulky and a hassle to carry around. But it does do what it's supposed to.
Not sure I can recommend.
July 10, 2015
Tried it once in Italy and the overload switch on an 1875 watt hair drier blew. Reset didn't work. I'm not sure whether the problem is with the converter or with the power at the small hotel. But I've had success with our other 1650 watt converters and hair driers all over Europe. The problem is that the new hair drier is 1875 watts. I cut the defective switch off the cord when we got back home. The drier works fine.
Needs better design
August 8, 2014
Definitely got the job done. With my laptop, I had to use the high setting or else it would not charge. It IS very bulky and sometimes it does not fit the design of an outlet- the prongs were appropriate, but the bulkiness of the whole thing sometimes did not allow to plug into some places. It works fine. For the price, good buy.
Gets hot when used for too long
August 12, 2013
I got this because I travel internationally for work. I specifically looked for one that would convert voltage-as plug converters are really cheap but may cause your items to overheat. This worked well, but it didn't convert the voltage as well as I would have liked. When using it with a hair straightener for example, the straightener still gets too hot to use while getting ready. You'd have to plug it in, fix half your hair then unplug it to cool down before finishing.
Converter for travel to Scotland
October 22, 2011
My husband and I recently traveled to Scotland and I bought this converter so I could use it for my hair dryer and my husband needed it to recharge his camera battery. It worked just fine for recharging the battery but I had problems with it while using my hair dryer. It worked for a short time but then my dryer shut off and would not turn back on.Not sure what happened. I really liked the size and weight of this converter.
Works but you need an additional plug extender for it
November 30, 2010
I was kinda annoyed because I specifically asked the retailer prior to purchasing this if the prongs would be long enough to fit into the recessed Euro plugs (since other reviews said it didn't) and they said that it was updated so that it would. But when I tried to use it in Europe the prongs were too short so we had to buy an extender (about $5) for it to fit in the plug. Aside from that, the device worked fine for charging our camera batteries on the low setting.

Good international travel power strip
June 29, 2017
I bought this to power a small coffee maker, but it wont handle it. Its amps are adequate, but the power draw (Watts) is not enough. Itll be good for other device applications. After awhile i noticed the internal fan will get really loud... like its bearings are bad. All in all, a great converter/strip.

December 7, 2016
The positive: Functionally, this product works fine. It comes with all the plug adapters I need and it converts 220V to 110V so I can use non-universal power supply devices. The four USB ports are welcome and work well and I like having a separate off/on switch. It is fairly light. The negative: This is a very noisy device. It emits a constant, annoying buzzing sound that varies in intensity with the load. I think it's the fan, though it could be a combination of fan & transformer. When I plug a projector into my laptop, the load increases and the noise increases. It's loader than the fan for the projector. The neutral. This provides three US power outlets which is a big plus when traveling. The cost is that the device, while light, is bigger than a simple plug adapter, and is hard to just "slip in" to an already crowded laptop case. I think the trade-off of space for functionality is worth it, and I pack this with my clothes.
... will start by saying that this product worked just fine for me
November 30, 2016
I will start by saying that this product worked just fine for me. I have other volt converters, but if I am just going to another country quick, I will take this along for the purpose of charging my phone and tablets and such. Low power stuff. Really I use this as a piece of mind as I know I can charge my devices on 220v, but I like that it has a fuse and other safety features. As other reviews have mentioned, I am a little annoyed with the fan that is in this particular converter (I did know of the fan when I purchased). The smaller the fan, the louder the noise. So there is some noise which could be disturbing to others. Personally, with such a low converter wattage max, I don't think the fan is necessary as I am sure it can stay cool without it. My larger ones are just bricks with no fan and they work fine. I placed the converter in the other room and couldn't hear it so it was not a nuisance, but I can see how some are annoyed by hearing the noise myself. I may just crack the case open and either remove the fan or cut the power to it. Depends. Otherwise I am happy with the product and will keep using it on my trips for my small stuff that mostly uses the USB ports anyways.
The good: it works well with various electronic
January 20, 2016
Made the purchase for my UK trip. The good: it works well with various electronic, including my laptop and other attachments associated with my work, (EXCEPT for my wife's blow-dryer & curl iron) which require more power(amps). I bought her a separate one at the airport, expensive but works, but have doubt if that would last. USB ports charge really quick. The bad: noise, very noisy with the fan in exhausting the heat. Not enough power to support blow dry and such.
Annoyingly loud
December 17, 2015
I went to Europe for two weeks, and this thing is loud. The first few days of my trip, I had to take naps to fight off the Jet Lag. If I was charging anything, I had to move this thing into the bathroom because it was that bad. The fan whines terribly. The device worked great, but the noise was so bad!!!In some hotels I didn't have an outlet in the bathroom, so I just had to suffer.I'm not sure if maybe mine was defective, or not...but I am not a fan. I'd give it less stars, but it worked great other than the terrible noise it made.
Good but noisy
November 19, 2015
This looked like the perfect answer to the delimma of international travel with a plethora of electronic gadgets. It has two US grounded power outlets, and 4 USB outlets for phone, tablet, watch, and kindle into a small box with an extension cord to the wall. The native European plug-in is supplemented by UK, Australia, and US adapters. What could be better? Unfortunately, the first time I plugged it in and turned it on, the problem became evident. This unit has a fan. A noisy fan. Maybe it won't bother some users, but listening to it in my hotel room night after night made me want to throw this awful device out the window just to get some sleep. I did find ways to muffle the sound enough to get thru the trip to Europe, but this little gadget won't make the next trip with me. Not recommended for anyone with intact hearing. Ok for anyone who can turn off their hearing aids.

Useless in France
August 23, 2016
Completely useless in France, where the sockets have not only two holes for the plug prongs, but a male prong that protrudes from the socket, presumably for grounding. Since this converter doesn't have a hole to receive the prong, it won't fit into the socket! Fortunately, I also brought a plug adaptor (not a converter) that did fit into the socket and allowed me to use this converter with my low wattage appliances. Without the adaptor, this product would have been useless.
HEAVY
May 9, 2016
This thing weighs way too much for backpacking. It weighed about a quarter of what the rest of what I was bringing on a month-long trip weighed. This is not ideal for travel, which is too bad, because it's for travel.
It died after 2 mounts...so....
June 17, 2013
....at first it had some strange smell when I pluged it in and start using it, like burning dust or something , but it still worked with my hairdryer. One day my hairdryer stoped working and smoke came out from the converter and it start smelling so strong....so...im still looking for a good convertor. I live in Europe,Serbia and i had to get convertor in order to use american hairdyer. I'm sad about it, because that particular hairdryer made my hair very silky and i can easily say beautiful:( and this convertor messed it up:( One more thing....with this hairdryer it took me "all" seven (7) minutes to dry my long straight hair, so I can't say that I was overusing the convertor and it died because of over heating or over working. I gave it 2 stars because it worked for the short time and my hair looked good for that short period:( but i would give it "non" star.
Cheap converters
June 3, 2013
Ok, they are not your typical converters as you must use the appliance (hair dryer or high power device) at full strength or it will damage the converter or appliance. It expects a certain amount of current (watts) to be used. It's ok for that purpose, but haven't had enough time with it to see how long it will perform.Certainly not expensive and worth having around if you travel. A true high power converter would be extremely heavy and expensive so this is a good alternative.
not very good.
October 25, 2012
I live in South Korea and have a few 110 volt items that are still used. our house is wired dual voltage 110 and 220 but when traveling around the country an adapter is necessary. I have a large transformer that works great but it is heavy 20lbs or so. This small transformer would be perfect if it worked. When plugged into a 220 volt outlet and set on high amperage output it works with a large load like a hair dryer, but the fan runs very slow and the heat output is reduced. I don't believe it is capable of doing what it is advertised to do. I haven't tried to use the low output setting but since most low amperage devices these days will run on anything from 90 to 240 volt input there is no need. The only advantage over my large transformer is size and weight. Otherwise it is not very useful.
Not for electronics that consume over 50 watts

I purchased this converter last spring (for a study abroad program in Germany and travel throughout Europe), when there were very few reviews and no warnings from the supplier about limiting the converter to use with electronic equipment consuming under 50 watts (Low setting). It didn't say that there were two settings; just a dash between the 50 and 1875 watts in the description. I am glad to see that the product description now says: * Do not use with Hair Straightners, kitchen appliances, power tools, computers or TVs.See the Product Review by "NLee the engineer" for the same converter (packaged with multiple plug adapters) for a technical explanation:http://www.amazon.com/1875K-WORLDWIDE-CONVERTER-50W-1875W-COUNTRIES/product-reviews/B000WU8XAM/ref=dp_db_cm_cr_acr_txt?ie=UTF8&showViewpoints=1I wish I had seen this review before I spent my money on this converter, and expedited shipping! The converter was not used (thankfully the above review was discovered before using the converter), but by the time the converter was back in the USA, it was too late to return it. As others have recommended, check your electronic equipment manuals, or the power bricks that come with each, to see if the equipment is rated for 240V and 50-60HZ. If so, get a 240v 50-60Hz surge protector power strip that is rated for the wattage that you need, or simply use plug adapters if no surge protection is needed. Fortunately, the computer, digital camera, cell phone, and iPod that needed power on the trip were all rated for 240V 50-60Hz, so they were able to be used with plug adapters, but the 110V travel surge protector I had purchased could not be used to protect them.

Worked great for the first 5 days of our vacation then it died
September 19, 2017
This travel adapter set was exactly what we needed for our trip from the US to Italy, Croatia, Montenegro, and Greece. It had enough USB ports and power plugs to charge a camera battery, two fitbits, two mobile phones, and to run a CPAP machine. The zipper pouch was handy and held everything together without any wasted space. Unfortunately, the adapter only worked for the first 5 days of our 2-week vacation and then the operational light changed from green to red. At first when the light changed, the power plugs no longer worked but the USB ports still worked. We followed the directions to turn the unit off and back on, and even unplugged it and plugged it back in, and when we turned it on again we heard a loud pop and smelled a burned electrical smell. Then nothing worked. This unit would have definitely been worth the purchase if it lasted our entire trip, even with the humming/fan sound that other reviewers have mentioned, which bothered my husband more than me. We might have just gotten a faulty unit because it looks like there are so many other positive reviews for this item. It really was handy while it lasted. Fortunately Amazon has offered a refund. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another one and try again.
Charges very slowly when used with phones and portable chargers
July 10, 2017
I used this product while staying in Italy for two weeks. It worked, however, not as I hoped. I plugged in my cell phone and portable charger late one night and when I woke up the next morning, the phone was only at 85% and the portable charger was not yet halfway charged. Luckily, I had two portable chargers so I would alternate charging them all day in the room while I was our sightseeing. It was fortunate I had that luxury. At home, my phone reaches 85% in less than an hour. So, I was really surprised by how slow this thing works. It is also fairly loud. It sounds as if there is a cooling fan running as soon as you turn it on and made it difficult to fall asleep a couple of nights. Because I planned in advance with this purchase, by the time I returned to the US, my return date had passed or I would definitely have sent it back! My recommendation -- pass on this brand.
TOO LOUD
July 5, 2017
I don't know if there's any variance in the product, but I definitely got a "loud hum" version. I will not use this while sleeping due to its volume, which is very disappointing. I got it for traveling abroad and use it to charge my laptop and portable batteries while I'm out of the room, then charge my devices from my laptop and batteries when I'm in the room.
but would not by again because of the very annoying noise mostly
August 18, 2016
It sort of worked out in Italy, but would not by again because of the very annoying noise mostly. Couldn't sleep at all with it closer than 8 feet (if hotels had fans it wouldn't be so bad). Second I would get one that can at least power my wife's 400 watt hair iron. Told her to check that everything was either under 200 or worked on 220v so plug adapter would work. She didn't check her iron. Oh, and don't get cheap plug adapters for Italy, those outlets need a plug like this until to safe and reliable.
breaking after 3 months
July 18, 2016
As a veteran electrician who went through advanced fire fighting school, this thing hasn't caught fire, tried to burn down my house, or seems like a major electrical hazard, so I don't think it deserves a one star. But, as someone who custom builds computers, the fan on this thing is extremely noisy, for what this thing does, there is no need for this high pitched noise to be so audible that I can hear it across the room through my noise cancelling headphones while I'm just trying to charge up my ipod before going to the gym. It is a noise that just makes you seem like your ears are ringing, but they aren't, its just this poorly designed extension cord's fan running.I am writing this review because I bought this product in April, it is already failing to work in July. This is a 50 dollar product, this thing should last for years. I recently have been using it as part of my daily routine to charge my usb products such as my iphone, and that is when it just stopped working. I woke up to find the items I left charging to be near empty charge. I changed the usb slots, and reseated the plugs into different slots and they worked after that. So that means the usb ports are fried already after .. what? 3 months?
Noisy unit - enough to not use unless really needed
May 22, 2016
I am writing this so that it may benefit others who get attracted to its features. I tried using this unit when in India to run my portable speakers, charge my phone (USB), and run my US landline handset. While the system provides power to the above electronics, it produces a high pitched noise at all times - making it impossible to use with speakers, or while sleeping, or in general when close to you. So it is pretty much useless box - I use one of the heavy black box inverters instead. To answer an obvious set of questions - why did you not return it / why did you not test it - I travelled back way outside my 30 day window; and I could not test it in US.I have given it two stars since it provides power (1 star) and the USB feature is cool (second star)

Do NOT Buy
September 3, 2017
Crappiest product ever! I purchased 4. The first time I used it with my coffee machine I heard a pop and it stopped working. I assumed it was my coffee machine and tossed it. Later I had a different appliance plugged in with a second one and i heard the same pop - turns out it was the converters blowing. My coffee machine was fine. The other 2 melted. These are the crappiest converters ever and a complete waste of money.
Did not work
May 10, 2017
This product did not work at all. It was purchased for use on a mission trip to Kenya, and it was not functional (not much I could do it about it then). Unfortunately, we did not return from the overseas mission trip until the exact day that the "return window" closed. If the seller sees this and would like to extend their return policy, it would be appreciated.
does not work on hair iron, or hair blow dryer, or curler or anything with high wattage.
July 19, 2016
this product will not work on hair dryers or hair iron. for ipods and small electronics yes but nothing with high wattage. i bought this for my wife to travel to portugal and when she got there, her hair iron would not work in the hotel so she ended up with frizzy hair until we got a hotel that had 120v socket for her to use her hair iron\straightener.
Didn't transmit and power & Ruined hair straightener
July 10, 2014
I purchased this for a Euro-trip. Did not work for me and I tried to use it on simple/dual voltage products first like my iPad charger, iPhone charge - it didn't submit any power to the plug. Then I tried using it with my hair dryer, which didn't work. Finally, I tested out my Chi hair straightener, as the product advises not to do, and it RUINED my straightener. However, my other charging devices and hair dryer weren't ruined. My straighter simply won't turn on anymore. This product didn't work as a converter or adaptor. I've noticed a lot of other reviews say how heavy this product is, it's small, but dense for it's size.I wouldn't recommend this product, and in the end all it did was add dead weight to my bag. Do not buy this product if you're looking for an adaptor - get the 6-pack adaptors that worked great!
Fried every appliance plugged into it
September 18, 2012
I tried to use two items with this converter in France- a UV nail lamp and my Braun toothbrush charger. Neither of these items are the heavy-duty usage sort of appliances, such as a hair straightener or a hair dryer might be.The first time I plugged the nail UV lamp into this product, it completely fried (smoke, flash, etc. and had to be thrown away) and the second time I used the product it didn't charge my toothbrush at all. I have had to purchase a transformer here in Paris, which I am now trying to use with my toothbrush charger. The transformer I purchased in Paris does work (when I tested it with other items) but the toothbrush charger does not, forcing me to conclude that the Simran International Travel Voltage converter has fried everything that has been plugged into it. Mind you, these products worked perfectly in the US immediately preceding our trip.Do yourself a favor, and purchase a transformer instead of this so-called "converter," either through Amazon, or in your destination country. I paid 29 euros for a transformer that works at Darty, a national electronics chain here in France; they are available other places too. Yes, a transformer is more expensive than this product, but at least you won't have to buy new appliances once they have been ruined by the Simran product.
Ugh

It works but very poorly made!
September 21, 2017
I HATE this dumb thing! I have to use it since I'm in Peru and need it, but the fan is sooo loud and soooo extremely annoying. I either lock the dumb thing in the bathroom in the shower (dry of course) so I can't hear it, or play loud music while it is on. Of course in Peru I'm living in a one room apartment so it's hard to get away from the sound. If I didn't need to to protect my laptop I would have thrown the thing against the wall already. Don't by this piece of crap unless your deaf or dead then you may not mind it.
Never worked at all
August 1, 2017
Was a total waste of money. Got to Scotland and plugged it in and all it would do was blink the green light. The green light never came on solid and could not get any electricity through it at all. Luckily a friend that came with us had an additional converter that we could use and it was a lot less than what this product cost. Maybe I got a dude but it was a total disappointment.
Product does NOT work
July 18, 2017
Product does not work, nor do the accessory pieces that you must by separately. When contacting customer service, they referred me to the FAQ page of their ad. No help at all. The convertor would not plug into the adaptors provided with it, nor the one's we purchased separately. The plug was too small for the adaptors and fell right out when plugged in. Very poor customer service in my opinion. I will be sending this product back and would definitely not recommend it.

Fan noise kills this product (ANNOYING)
June 26, 2016
The noise of the fan in this product makes it practicably unusable to charge devices overnight in a hotel room. Even ear plugs did not completely cover up the noise. I used it during a 7 night stay in Frankfurt, Germany for a business trip and ended up having to charge my phone, tablet and laptop as much as possible before going to sleep and then plug it again in the morning while I got ready to head out for another day's work. In one word: Annoying.
