Very good purchase for my overseas travels.
Works well, USB ports are handy.
September 28, 2016
Seems to work well - I say that because I sometimes had issues charging but I believe it was the power source, not the adapter. Worth it to have the 2 USB ports - came in very handy. Blue led lights up letting you know it's working.I'd say only improvement would be if it were slimmer - it sticks out from the wall and is 'heavy' so sometimes it falls out. I either prop it up or tape it to the wall when this happens - it's only been an issue a few times.
Very useful gizmo
May 22, 2016
This is a one-function gadget that does exactly what it's supposed to do -- supplies electrical plugs for systems worldwide, and you can then plug your US two-prongs into it. We just used it for two weeks in Ireland with its 3-rectangular-prongs outlets and it worked perfectly with our US battery and cellphone chargers. Bonus: when it's plugged in the power indicator is bright enough to serve as a night light!IMPORTANT: This device is NOT NOT a voltage converter, just a plug adapter. In countries with other than 110 volt electrical systems you'll need a converter also, or chargers that work on both currents.
A necessity for overseas trips
May 10, 2016
purchased this for a trip to Norway. Like that it has the 2 usb ports for charging a phone and an ipad or kindle. Should be an improvement over my old power adapter. Nice that it is white. Will make it more noticeable in the bag. Nice that it is compact in size. Not a bunch of pieces to deal with. It doesn't come with the power cords for the phone or kindle, so make sure you have those or remember to pack them
Very Convenient for Travel
January 29, 2016
This adaptor is great for travel across multiple countries. I used it for a trip to the UK and Central Europe and it was so convenient to not have to bring multiple adaptors for the different outlets.Pros:- The two USB ports. Other travelers I met were jealous when they saw that I could charge my camera, phone, and tablet all at the same time using just one outlet!- The 3-in-1 design. No extra pieces you have to bring and switch out for different countries.- All the prongs retract to save a little space, making it easier to store or pack.Con:- Really the only con is that it can get a little heavy depending on what you have attached to it, so I had to prop it up a couple times.Overall I would definitely recommend this to other travelers!
What more can you ask for?
December 24, 2015
I travel a lot for work and this is a great item to charge your items! I initially bought this for the USB ports to be able to charge my phone and kindle while in between travel at airports. These days its tough finding an open outlet and when you do, you have to decide what you are going to charge first. With this, you multiply your charging capabilities to three items. Can't say enough about it and how much this has simplified charging items during travel!

Not a frequent user, but works good so far. I realized it's very important to set it up for the first time in order to avoid any problems later. The customer service representative was very helpful to select the right one for me.
Needed to Charge a 220v Computer Battery
March 8, 2017
My son was visiting from Shanghai, China and his computer battery began to die. It must be charged on 220v and so I purchaed this converter to as all our outlets are 110v. It worked like a charm and wa able to also charge up his cell phone. We will keep it for his next visit.
Can drive heavy loads
February 3, 2017
I've tried this with a 240V soldering iron, which is one of the highest demands you could put through a step-up. It handles it with no hesitation. It's heavy and bulky, but tough under high demand.

August 28, 2016
I wanted this so that I could convert the UK to US voltage and use the best glue gun on the market - Stanley Fatman - that was only sold for UK electric. This has a very long wire for the US 3 prong plug that worked perfect for the glue gun and has a red light to show if it is on. It was quiet and never gave off any smells like some others. This is a very nicely made quality product that we use almost every day.

I bought a couple of these transformers after my move from Europe to the US, and I am very pleased after my first 3 months of using them.I use one of them to power:- NAD stereo amplifier- PS4- PC monitor- PC speakersWhile I haven't yet needed to power all of these at once, it does a fine job of powering the stereo and the PC monitor at the same time.My other transformer powers a 32" LCD TV and a small LaserJet printer.Cons:- It has a fairly high idle power consumption (I haven't measured it, but I would guesstimate 6-12 watts based on the amount of heat it emits, which is probably normal for a device like this). Therefore I turn it off when it's not in use.- Which brings me to my second con: The power switch. The switches are still working on my transformers, but they don't seem to be of the best quality. I get the feeling that they won't last for years of daily use, but I guess we'll see.
Value for Money
October 26, 2015
We moved from Asia to the US and so needed these transformers to handle few of our gadgets that supported 220V only. So far they have proved they are value for money. We use them to run the humidifier all night long, and other gadgets for few hours and they have done their job as required. I picked them because of the primary reason that they have multiple Input Voltage options and both 110v and 220v output options, with sockets for universal plugs. Highly recommended.

You have to be careful and lock the plugs. My kids accidently left them unlocked and it shorted the fuse in our hotel room in London. No problems anywhere else.
Solid charger
May 12, 2016
Compact, versatile and best part is 2 USB ports! This worked in the US, UK, France, Belgium, and the Netherlands. I never had a problem where it didn't fit and it seemed to charge well. Only negative I found was I brought my 2-pronged US iPhone charger (the block part) for when my USB ports were full and I had difficulty pushing it into the adapter. It would take a few tries to make the red flaps go inward with the prongs of the plug which got frustrating, but it never not worked. Also, beware when you "unlock" -- the spring loaded prongs fling out with unexpected velocity!
Did not work in Spain, outlets must be flush with the wall.
February 12, 2016
This adapter looked perfect for my travel...except it didn't work in Spain! The Europe adapter on the back will work in Europe IF they have flat outlets that are flush to the wall. When I was in Spain, their outlets are circular and set into the wall, therefore, you need a circular adapter. I purchased Ceptics Grounded Universal Plug Adapter for Europe, Germany, France (Schuko) (Type E/F). I was so frustrated and no matter how hard I tried, I can't get a square into a circle. : ) I am not sure that all European countries outlets are set into the wall but I bought the circular adapter when I go to France to be safe.On the positive side, if you travel anywhere else, this is a good design. You have to make sure you unlock and lock the green switch on the top of the adapter. Unlock to release, pull the adapter out all the way and then lock the switch. When you forget to lock after you pull the prongs out the adapter falls out of the outlet. Another positive is that you can charge anything via USB with 2 ports on the side. That feature will come in handy for iphones and ipads. I will update this review if this adapter works in Germany, Switzerland and France when I travel again. I am carrying both adapters though to be safe. I am giving this 4 stars for design, quality and USB ports, because I am not sure if that travel experience to Spain was isolated.
A travel converter with USB ports
October 16, 2015
This is a nice basic universal AC power adapter for travel with the added plus of 2 USB ports. Everything folds up nicely and compactly making it easy to pack. Couldn't ask for anything more! I received a discount in exchange for my honest review.

October 6, 2015
Does everything as described but the quality of the product is not great. The green buttons are not rigid and feels like they would break after some days of use. The US plug which is released on lock button don't retract smoothly. The usb pins are not aligned horizontally to the openings but have no problem in connecting/charging. Better choose a different one if you are concerned about finish and quality.

September 18, 2015
Quality is good and price is very reasonable compared to similar products. Very nice packaging as well. Would have given it a 5 star if not for the location of the US prongs which are placed too high. Should have been positioned in the middle for better balance. As it is, the weight of plugged in items pulls heavily on it almost removing it from the wall/mains.

Great Customer Service
February 11, 2017
Bought this thing (the STU-500) to use with my Xbox 360 while I'm here in China. On its fifth use something made a loud sound and popped inside and it the unit was no longer functional. Would recommend AGAINST buying this. For the price it costs (which, when bringing it overseas becomes even more expensive as it counts against my luggage weight limit) compared to its ridiculously short lifespan it ends up being a ripoff.Edit: Great customer service from the seller. Without my having to even ask, they not only gave me a refund BUT they also sent me the STU-1000 unit as a replacement all the way to where I am now in China. While my initial experience was disappointing I am definitely much pleased with this seller's efforts.Edit 2: It also seems for some reason these reviews appear on all of their different unit sizes (e.g. STU-500, STU-1000, etc.) so bear that in mind when considering the reviews, including mine.

July 4, 2016
I am rewriting the review, because I learned that I should have picked a converter which covers 2-4 times higher wattage than the product I intend to use it with. I had a 220V 430W heating pad. This converter produced smoke and toxic smell after I used it about twenty times, which scared me quite a bit. If I used it for lower wattage product, I guess it would've been OK. It has strong odor when it first arrives but it goes away. I think it's a solid product at a reasonable price, but I am going with other brand for 2000W converter this time, to try it out.
Good electrical engineering, slightly bad design (with a work-around)..
April 17, 2016
It works well; it is compact, quiet, and gives the step-up power I needed (from 110/120 to 220/240.I would give it 5 stars but the front outlet for the 220 is positioned incorrectly in that my wire had the single, straight pin away from the wire, meaning the wire extended down towards the bottom so the unit could not be set flat on the surface.HOWEVER: I took that receptacle off easily and shifted it 90º so the wire now extends to the right of the box.
Works great BUT has a gasoline like smell coming from the unit.
March 9, 2016
So far the unit works great. I'm using it to power up a red bull mini fridge. The unit is heavy and feels like its made of solid components. Great value for the product. Theres no humming or anything coming from the converter. My ONLY gripe, and its beginning to be a big one is that as soon as i opened the box, a gasoline like smell has taken over my office. I dont know why it smells like that but I'm hoping this smell goes away as it is driving me insane. Other than that, the unit is exactly as described.

March 3, 2016
The best thing about this transformer besides a decent price is its size, since I take it with me traveling outside the US. So far so good, though I've noticed my small appliances that use heat run hotter than normal. I have used a transformer at a friend's house with the same appliances, and it wasn't this much of a heat increase. However, with a few small adjustments in use (lowering heat settings), there have been no issues with regard to the product so far after a week's use. Grateful to use all my appliances from home

September 19, 2014
This is my 3rd convertor from Amazon and frm the same company. This serves the purpose. We have appliances from NZ where the power consumption is 220 - 240 w. and US uses exactly 1/2 ie 110 - 120w. Most of d kitchenand laundry appliances do not work and hence we need to use a step up to convert US 110w to 220w. Based on where u need to use it, u can decide the wattage. This info would b available on product catalogue ie the appliance u need to use. I have no problem with any of these. And have not encounteted earthing problem as described in another review. at least do not know if it does have. I am usung 3000w in the kitchen and use my toaster, boiling kettle, rice cooker, espresso coffee maker, mixer grinder, Food processor, toaster oven, and many such small or big appliances. Also use Kerby vaccum. The other 3000w is used for pc, monitor , printer assembly and other knick knacks around. I used the third one 500w for my TV home theatre and all the other entertainment assembly..and have no problem.

Worked for USB, not so much for three-prong cords
March 6, 2016
I bought 5 of them and took them to Egypt. Two of them did not allow me to plug my laptop power cord into the ports. The other three worked fine. However, there was a trick: I had to force the power cords into the device using all of my arm strength- otherwise, they didn't work. I liked the USB ports, which is one reason I bought them (to charge my cell phone). You get what you pay for. In the future, I would use this for a USB cord, and buy those rubber converters for two and three prong cords.

The prongs in the back as spring loaded and were sometimes annoying to keep locked out or in. For the price, it works so if you are looking for the cheapest universal with USBs this will make due. I would spend the few extra dollars and get this one though https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00V63Z726/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1.

February 2, 2016
It adapts plugs, but I found anything heavy than a normal plug (like a laptop) causes it to fall out of the wall. I had to find creative ways to prop it up. Also, it advertises that you use your USB to charge it, but I would strongly recommend that you still use the USB plug attachment in this adapter as my iPhone got really hot when I used the USB sans pulg.
Falls out of socket
December 5, 2015
I purchased this DIGISION 3315794 Dual USB Universal AC adapter to take on my trip to Ireland. For the most part it worked and allowed me to use my phone charger, hair dryer, and curling iron. What annoyed me is that it did not stay plugged into the wall very well. It falls forward, losing the electrical connection. I was constantly having to push it back in the socket or hold it with one hand while I used the other hand to hold whatever it was I was trying to use. I ordered 3 of these: one for myself, one for my sister, and one for my parents. They all had the same trouble I did with it not staying plugged in.
Swiss army style of Power Adapater
October 17, 2015
Haven't had a chance to travel with it yet (bought for an upcoming trip to Asia). But did play with it a bit. Other than a bit bulky, my only complaint is that the Main power prongs are very difficult to Retract (for storing) after they are opened for inserting into the outlet. I sort of have to Push them IN while at the same time trying to slide the switch ... Not sure how long this thing is going to hold up when used daily ... we'll see in November during my trip.

DOA Transformer
June 6, 2016
It came dead on arrival. I had to open it and found a loose soldered wire to the 220V outlet. The construction is flimsy, the same plastic outlet became loose after the repair. But it's working now, for the last 2 1/2 weeks. That's why I am giving 3 stars, otherwise I would have given one. It gives out no discernible noise, does the job of powering my Marantz amplifier here in Rio de Janeiro, where the voltage is 117V. Was it worth paying for the freight and the outrageously steep Brazilian import tax? Only time will tell. Goldsource should take more care of the manufacturing of this product. I would not refuse the reimbursement of my purchase, at least for the $ 29.99 original cost, as it's not practical to ship it back to the US.

December 19, 2015
Bought this for a trip to Europe. HEAVY!!! Don't buy this if you have to pack light for an escorted tour, or you are a heavy packer. Airline restriction's is 50 pounds per bag, and this is a whopper!
Fuse don't last long!!
November 2, 2015
It works as expected. But Fuse don't last while. Always a problem with fuse while using it as step up converter 110V to 220 V.I have replaced at least 6 fuses till day, this is equivalent to cost of this converter.
It works so far.. but its cheaply made
January 21, 2014
So far it working pretty well for the use I was looking for, 120 watt 220V. I have not used it continuously more than an hour as the equipment I use it for doesn't need it to be running. Here's the bad thing I notice:1. First thing I opened it, the smell of paint is pretty bad on it. Maybe hazardous, so beware. Maybe let it sit outside until it settles.2. Very heavy. Its a obsolete design on converting volts but then its cheap and works.3. Instructions is not very clear. What can you expect being made cheaply in China? So take a moment and to understand which switch to plug it on. Just use common sense than the instruction written.
It works, but with quality control issues.
January 3, 2013
I give it a three star rating because it works OK. I found wire-wound transformer inside is loose to slide back and forth, all four mounting screw is loose, since the heavy transformer inside is free to move for a 1/4 inch as I am handling the unit, the grounding might not be secure with the case and other hardware. After I opened the unit to inspect, the grounding lack of star washers to secure it in place. A safety concern. Secondly, the little fuse is not marked the voltage or amperage, I check the instruction manuel that comes with the unit, it only mentioned use a slow blow little fuse of same voltage amerage, but no-where is mentioned or marked on the unit or fuse to provide the info, it even did not have a customer service contact number listed in the instruction. Definitely a sign of poor quality control and customer support.
luck of the draw...
December 5, 2012
These transformers are all pretty much made at the same factory regardless of the name brand on them. They arrive dented or damaged and poorly packaged from the factory box (from the shipper they are packaged just fine) the first one i ordered did not work at all, the next one did....the quality on these is really lousy but it seems there are no other options for transformers out there. After calling local electricians and electronics shops it became clear that my only choice was to simply order these lousy ones until I got one that worked. I'm really careful and never leave it plugged in if I'm away and do not use extension cords with it.Once i got one that worked I've been using it daily for over a year.

The concept of this adapter is genius, however when I recently traveled to Australia and New Zealand I found that the shape of the charger and it's weight made it unable to stay in the outlets which was really disappointing since I was left without an adapter!
The built-in USB ports were great for charging my gadgets
May 7, 2016
I ordered this adapter for my international travel. It worked well for my trips to China and Thailand last November. The built-in USB ports were great for charging my gadgets. However, when I took this adapter to Europe a week ago, the adapter suddenly stopped working in the middle of my vacation in Amsterdam. For whatever reason, there was no power coming through the adapter. Luckily, I happened to carry another power adapter specifically for EU region. I checked the power outlet on the wall and confirmed there was power, so the power adapter was indeed defective. It was extremely inconvenient for me and my wife to charge up our devices during the rest of our vacation. For a product like this, I'd expect very solid reliability and durability on top of the convenience with the all-in-one design. I don't take a lot of international trips, so the usage of this product is fairly minimal. The adapter only lasted 6 months with two uses, which is very disappointing.
Don't Waste Your Money
March 15, 2016
This item was very unreliable and worked properly for only about 20% of my time traveling. Thank goodness that my hotel provided adapters and had USB ports built into the walls, otherwise my vacation would have been ruined.
I got a lemon
March 7, 2016
Good size however I received a lemon, I could not fit a US plug into its designated slot because the contact pins were misaligned. It requires a bit of muscle to finally get the plug in but it crushed one of the pins and didn't have a solid contact point to deliver continuous power
It kinda works.
January 27, 2016
Having gotten quite tired of purchasing a separate adapter for each country that I travel to, I figured that a universal adapter would be just the thing. And it ... sort of is. I bought two of these, and NONE of the USB ports (on either one) work. A two-pronged plug (without a grounding prong) wobbles in the adapter, and falls out at the slightest tug. The adapter's flat prongs (used as is for US outlets, or rotated at 45-degree angles for Australia or New Zealand) cannot be locked in a rotated position that fits Australian plugs. Some wiggling of the prongs allows locking them into the position, but then plugging the adapter into the outlet requires a lot of force, as prongs are out of alignment relative to the outlet.Ultimately, the adapter worked with middling success, once I figured out how to lock the prongs, and by using a rubber band to secure a plug to the adapter, but the lack of working USB ports and flimsy construction make me unwilling to use this device in the future.
It's disconcerting when smoke starts pouring out of your adapter...
October 26, 2015
Product is a great idea. It includes everything you need--three plugs for use in almost every country, multiple USB plugs, etc.Unfortunately, we got a lemon--a good idea was not backed up by a quality product. We purchased this for a trip through Europe and, on first use, it charged our phones via USB, albeit incredibly slowly (probably 10% the speed of our normal chargers). On second use, after a few minutes of being plugged in (trying to charge a phone via USB), smoke started pouring out of the unit. No damage to the phone, but it did require us to track down a replacement adapter on the road (sadly, at a higher cost).Based on all the 5-star reviews, I would consider trying this product again. However, I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND getting it in advance of your trip and using it a few times before going abroad to make sure you get a quality unit instead of a lemon.

The product is kinda Ok with the price I bought it for ( 33 Dollars). If its used for more than 20 minutes, the device emits smoke with a strong burning smell. I generally use it for a kitchen appliance which I got from India, which needs 240 Volts to get operational compared to 120 Volts (which is the standard you get in US). The smoke and the smell is kind of scary due to which I usually switch it off after 20 mins. This product definitely needs some design fix.

February 4, 2016
This thing smells incredibly unhealthy. I have unpacked it and had to hold my breath due to the intense rubbery smell of softeners / solvents. I could not use it in my room and aired it out over 3 days in the basement. Even so, when using it at the far end of my bedroom, I woke up in the middle of the night from the toxic smelling fumes it emits. I then had to open all windows and wrap the contraption in several layers of plastic bags. Probably getting rid of it soon. 2 Stars as it does work, and if you use it, say, in your basement, it might just do its job.
The fuse protection works ;-)
January 4, 2016
First time out of the box, blew the fuse. The unit is rated at 500 watts, but I don't think it can handle that. The device I used was around 400 watts. I'm still trying to figure out if I can find a use for it. Price was good, though; it was a flash sale during black Friday.

a hazard
September 26, 2011
This item proved to be flaky and probably dangerous. It would trip the main circuit breaker for no apparent reasonand stay on for several seconds after being turned off, and then tripthe breaker with a loud bang. That does not seem very safe at all.On the other hand i also bought at the same time the STU-1000W and STU-2000Wand they are both working great and seem very stable and sturdy. So in my experience it's worth the extra $ for the added power capacityand apparent better build quality, sturdiness and reliability.I am returning this and exchanging it for another STU-1000W.ps: These transformers are pretty heavy, so don't plan on moving them around often.

I purchased this adapter months ago for a trip I just took. I tried it once at home and it worked ok, but it broke the very first time I tried to use it overseas (only the second time I tried plugging something in) and I had to break down and buy an expensive one at the last minute at a tourist shop near my hotel. The adapter is so messed up, you can't even get the end of plug into it. I have no idea what happened or how it cold have been broken in such a way, but it's a piece of junk. Don't waste your money!!!

September 6, 2016
Purchased three. All of them worked on our trip to SE Asia. But, on our recent trip to England, one stopped charging, i.e., the blue light no longer works and it does not charge our devices. We could still use it as an adaptor. However, we're leery now of taking the other two on our next vacation lest they stop charging as well.
Stopped working properly
March 16, 2016
I bought this last year because it was cheap and self contained. I used it on two week long trips to Ireland. On the second trip I started having problems with it. The plug into the Ireland outlet stopped working right. I could only get it to work by having it on partially plugged in. Even then it was difficult to find a position where it would stay connected. I guess you get what you pay for. I do not recommend this product.
Wouldn't stay in socket
December 7, 2015
I bought this adapter for a trip to Australia. When I tried to plug this one into the socket, I couldn't get the unit to remain there. Even though the plug bits are adjustable, I was unable to orient them in a way which would cause the adapter to fit tightly. Fortunately, I had bought some cheap adapter plugs that worked fine. I'm glad I did not rely on this as my sole means of electricity for my trip, or I would have had sadly uncharged electronics.
Quick to fizzle!
December 6, 2015
I love the design of this adapter. It is compact and versatile. However, I took this to Spain in November and it only worked for 2 1/2 days. On the evening of the third day, I plugged it in and connected my phone as usual. About 10 minutes later, there was a flash, a pop and smoke! Yikes! I'm glad I was in the room to unplug it quickly. I think it is a fire hazard and I was left without a way charge anything until I could find a new charger (very expensive overseas).

Do not buy! This arrived with some failed solder joints on the primary selector switch, see attached photo. This is super dangerous and can hurt anyone that attempts to plug this unit in.Also none of the heat shrink sleeving was shrunk, opening the door to more insulation failures down the road.

Works fine and construction feels solid
March 25, 2016
Using this to run my Pioneer A400 amp I imported from the UK to the USA. Works fine and construction feels solid. So why one star? The smell. The smell is not the pleasant oil/grease smell but the unpleasant gasoline/petrol smell. It was so strong I left it outside to air out for a few days before bringing it inside. After 1 week outside I've brought the unit inside and now my apartment smells like a gasoline station. It doesn't seem to be dissipating, but I will report back if it does. Check other reviews, this is a common problem with this unit.

Buyer, please beware ...
July 12, 2013
I'm a frequent Amazon shopper and this is the first time I've felt compelled to write a review. Why? Never in my life have I received a product that gave off such strong noxious fumes after I broke the plastic packaging in which it came. I left it outside in a very windy area to ventilate for one full week, before my nose told me that it might be ok to bring into my home / basement workroom. The product seems to work ok -- but if I were to do it over, I'd have paid far more for a different product -- and hopefully one that wouldn't smell so toxic. Makes you wonder how many consumers in the US (and factory workers in China) could be getting poisoned or worse, cancer, from long term exposure to this product. So fellow consumers, please beware on this one.
