Five Star Reviews: | 36% A Happy whittler July 30, 2017 I gave this item as a gift to a young whittler. He absolutely loved them. He has used them any times and they are still going strong. They seem strong and well made. Should last along time. Very useful and met all expectations. November 17, 2014 Excellent set of tools. It took me a long time to find a set like this that did not have a ton of reviews talking about broken tools or handles popping off, but these are great. They are very durable and well crafted. They weren't as sharp as I'd like out of the box (but by no means dull) however they are nice enough to include several sharpening stones. Pretty nice tool roll, too. Great Deal! September 6, 2014 Excellent quality stainless steel set. The chisels are sharp and well made. The rollup case is nice, but the sharp ends of the chisels could easily poke out and cause harm if not careful. It is shipped in a box that I will keep it in to a avoid the issue. I still can't believe the price! A starter set costs much more than this very complete set! It also comes with sharpening stones to keep them razor sharp. | 71% Worth buying. October 23, 2017 My order arrived a day early. The packaging was very good and the actual box and tools is attractive and well done. Each tool fits into a molded compartment and the steel is covered by a pliable clear plastic cap. Upon testing each tool they are well polished and extremely sharp. The price was good and I may purchase another set. I love the power grip tools September 18, 2017 I love the power grip tools, this is my 3rd set. I carve very hard wood. And they work great but very nice tools for the price August 28, 2017 Not the highest quality, but very nice tools for the price, perfect for luthierie which is why I bought them. ... finished my first linocut with these and they are fantastic. Sharp June 17, 2017 I finished my first linocut with these and they are fantastic. Sharp, sturdy and great to handle. There are a good variety of tool sizes and shapes in this set. I did buy another set of tool for micro cuts to give me more variety, but these are a true favorite. I am going to Japan next year and hopefully hit a few wood tool shops. These are good quality for the price. these feel overall better than ramelson sets November 27, 2016 these feel overall better than ramelson sets. better leverage handle than the palm style handles. better quality overall and better sharpness straight out of the box. not to mention these are cheaper. |
Four Star Reviews: | 21% Fairly comprehensive set of chisels for beginner's & general carving ... February 14, 2017 Fairly comprehensive set of chisels for beginner's & general carving. Higher degree of quality steel than I expected. The wooden handles fit to hand very well. Thanks! I got this for my boyfriend and he loved it! The one thing I would change though ... August 29, 2016 I got this for my boyfriend and he loved it! The one thing I would change though is how short the bag is. The chisel tops poke right out of it! okay, very large! August 3, 2015 Items are decent quality and the case is nice, but they are very large! If you are wanting to carve very large pieces these might work, but we were unable to really even use them because of how large they are. Read measurements carefully. For someone wanting large chisels these seemed to be made well and look like they would last, but they do need to be sharpened further before any use. Sculpt pro Wood Carving Chisel Set- Pros and Cons June 24, 2015 I recently ordered a set of the Sculpt Pro 13 piece chisel set it came in the mail and arrived on time. Pros-The handles are very solid and well made and with a nice finish. The steel blades are made out of what seems to be good high quality stainless steal. Also includes a good roll up carrying case which makes transporting them easy and also makes them easy to hang up in your work shop such as on a peg board for example. The set also came with some nice files that were already included and three small sharpening stones. Now onto the Cons. Cons- The set of chisels and gouges came completely unsharpend, and the sharpening stones that came with the set are very fragile and it would take hours of working with the tools to get them honed in and sharp like they need to be. But other than that this is a very great set of tools. Since I received a defective set and contacted the company , they decided to not only to send me a new set but let me keep the set that was defective. I greatly appreciate how the company strives for complete satisfaction and deemed that the way I received my tools was absolutely unacceptable. They were very prompt, polite, and have great customer service. Other than the issue of receiving a defective set like I said before they are great tools that is why I give four out of five stars. Once I receive the new set I will make another reveiw and most likely will be giving them five stars. Hope this helps A great set, especially for "hobby carvers". October 10, 2014 This is a good carving tool kit. At this price offering it is a great buy. I recommend these for any carver but they are great starter set for a person that wants to carve as a hobby. The selection of tools in this set are good. I also liked the pouch that neatly stores this set. | 15% Inexpensive but good October 27, 2017 If you are looking for a good inexpensive set of tools for printmaking, these are great. Well rounded hands. Easily controllable. Have not found a down side. Love that they come in a case Nice set. April 5, 2017 These are super sharp and well put together. I'm not sure how long they are supposed to stay sharp. Found little divots in the blade not sure if it was my fault or not. I'm new at this so it could've been my hacking away. but they seem to work great. They are well made and I consider them ... March 22, 2017 These are my first carving tools so I don't have anything to compare them to, but they seem to work great. They are well made and I consider them a good deal for the price I paid. For someone who is just getting into printmaking, they are ideal. Great for the Money! November 29, 2016 Several very useful tools in this set! Good edges on most. Used a couple on basswood and found them to work well. Great for the money! |
Three Star Reviews: | 15% Slightly disappointed July 30, 2017 Chisels came dull. The Large sharpening stone was not included as pictured. Three Stars May 19, 2017 the big stone does not come with it and is you drop the little stone it will shater Ok for fine carving, fine line etching. Not for removing much material. September 28, 2015 I ordered quickly from the picture and was somewhat disappointed to find that all of the chisels are on the narrow, small side. I was hoping for a at least one to be in the 1/2" to 5/8" size. Not noting that was mainly my fault. Hurry, hurry. Nice weight to them and sturdy May 10, 2015 This set is made well. Nice weight to them and sturdy. The case is decent although the elastic band and Velcro that hold it together once rolled up is a bit flimsy. My only complaint about these tools is I had to do a lot of work on some of them to get a sharp enough edge for carving. Most of them just required a few minutes of sharpening on the stone included with some honing oil. Some the tools however were completely dull and required a few hours of work on grinder to get a proper edge. I gave these three stars because they have the potential to be really great tools but will require more than typical work on your part to get all of them working properly. This product is OK, they could have been sharper ... April 24, 2015 This product is OK, they could have been sharper, but they are well made,. also i had to sharpen them straight out the box.. but a OK product..and these wood tools are not for *FINE DETAIL WORK* they are to large..but ok for regular carving, the storage bag is a OK product also.heavy duty material.. | 5% They are ok March 5, 2017 They work, but definitely can't get a good rhythm going. Good blades ain't cheap, but it's a good starting set for widdle carving Good steel but slightly undersize handles December 7, 2016 Good quality tools with a well-thought-out sharpening system. The handles are a bit small for my large hands but they take and hold an edge well. Nice storage box. These tools are extremely nice upon arrival June 22, 2016 These tools are extremely nice upon arrival. They are so sharp they can easily handle any task and the grip is awesome and the blades are covered with rubber coating so that you can protect sharp blade from accidental damage.I used these tools to carve my "chaos eater" sword replica and it was a 1.13 m length pine wood sword with some awesome engravings but some chisels broke of tiny tips of their sharp bevel and when such thing happens you can no longer comfortably peel of the wood chips as before. Rounded bevels became dull the first, maybe because I used them a lot. Then i switched to straight ones and finalized the carving and if the blades remained as sharp as they were before I would give it a 5 star without second thoughts. So if you buy these chisels do make sure that you have some proper sharpening equipment and honing material, because I tried to sharpen them at 400 grid wet stone and although i reached some level of sharpness they were not as sharp as initially. I guess I must try sharpening stones which have 4000 and 8000 grid and diamond stones are the best what I've heard so far.Anyway, if you can handle sharpening, these babies are quite cool. And also I included a photo of the sword that I've carved with these tools. good for small projects but chipped quickly March 10, 2016 They were okay .. good for small projects but chipped quickly.. I would say good for small detail projects Three Stars February 17, 2015 Angle of the cutting bevel seems to 'steep'. But I have not used much yet. |
Two Star Reviews: | 14% Very dull September 11, 2016 Returned product because they were not sharp, very dull and hard to work with. If someone had a way of sharpening them, it might be an OK set for an experienced wood worker. Cheap February 26, 2016 These tools were not sharp at all when I received them and are so cheap they don't hold an edge well when I sharpen them Incomplete set, not too happy. August 28, 2015 The first set I received didn't have the rasps or sharpening stone, and instead had 6 of the stick files. Returned it, got the replacement, which has three stick files and two rasps, but still no sharpening stone. (Though the sharpening stone isn't mentioned in the item description here or on the box, nor is it in the picture on the box it comes in.) Rather than attempt a third set, I'm just gonna go buy a sharpening stone myself. Ok startor set But tools come dull and need sharpening July 15, 2015 Ok startor set But tools come dull and need sharpening. Also the v gouge will not stay sharp and the edges chip away. Would recommend spending more money on a different set. ... work than more expensive chisels and gouges to make useful. The stones that come with the set are ... December 28, 2014 The fact that these don't come final sharpened is no big deal but they need a lot more work than more expensive chisels and gouges to make useful. The stones that come with the set are useless garbage. The steel used seems to be lower quality than other tools as well and they don't hold an edge as well. Decent enough for what you pay Though I suppose. | 5% Nice shape, and holds well in the hand April 7, 2017 Nice shape, and holds well in the hand. The metal is too brittle to hold up to hardwood. Right away the chisels chipped when using them on cherry. I will only be able to use these for softwood. Pretty disappointing, but as always, you get what you pay for. I have found that these aren't made from the best steel. November 9, 2016 Unfortunately, I have found that these aren't made from the best steel. The other tools were fine and very sharp August 18, 2016 One of the tools was loose at the handle. The other tools were fine and very sharp. I would have given it a 4 or 5 if not for the broken one. The handles are nice and comfortable but unfortunately that doesn't make up for ... June 11, 2016 While these carving tools came sharp in the package, I quickly discovered the metal to be too soft. After one night of use, the edges were beginning to chip. Sharpening didn't take long but the edges deteriorated just as fast. The handles are nice and comfortable but unfortunately that doesn't make up for the low quality steel. I did not once use a mallet. I only used the force of my own hands. These would be excellent with some better quality steel. If you plan on using these once and never again I would recommend. If you plan on repeated use, look elsewhere. they are very poor quality. WOuld only recomend if you want to ... July 31, 2015 I sent mine back, they are very poor quality. WOuld only recomend if you want to carve balsa or soft woods. Even pine would be too hard. Cheap metal quality. |
One Star Reviews: | 14% This set is CHEAP. All the bevel grinds were ... January 27, 2016 This set is CHEAP. All the bevel grinds were off, some by over an 1/8 of an inch. Luckily, I was able to repair it with my bench grinder. But for someone who is new to carving, you will only curse the hobby if you buy this set. Save your money and put it towards a more expensive, European (Swiss) set. This is a really poor quality chisel set October 12, 2015 This is a really poor quality chisel set. REALLY poor quality. I knew it wasn't going to be great when i bought it but i didn't expect the steel itself to be shoddy. I sharpened the flat chisel for 2.5 hours to get it absolutely razor sharp and within 60 seconds of chiseling it was dull and the steel bent along the edge. This isn't a good set for a beginner or anyone else. I can't think of any reason or case for buying it. Nothing was sharp and the metal used to make the ... March 22, 2015 Nothing was sharp and the metal used to make the tools was of low quality, I would not purchase this tool set again | 4% Broke after 1 use July 26, 2017 Tool tips chipped and because extremely dull after one useWould not rec. One Star April 28, 2017 Came extremely sharp. Too sharp? They dulled after a couple minutes of use on soft wood My Experience With This Set Is To Steer Clear Of Them ! January 27, 2017 I bought this set in Nov. 2016, but didn't start using them until today, Jan. 27. Within less than a couple of minutes, the first two sweeps I used broke right where the blade enters the handle. I was using them to clean up the curves in a 1/16" deep area I had routed for a small box hinge with rounded ends. I was using them with just normal hand pressure to slice a sliver of wood up to a marked line, not pounding on them with a mallet or using them to gouge out a 1/2" chunk of wood.I knew going in that these were not going to be the quality of a Flexcut set, but I certainly didn't expect them to break the first time I tried to use them. Each one broke in nearly a perfectly straight line across the blade. The end of the broken blades looks like pot metal, not how steel usually looks when it's broken. I'll be tossing these in the trash and ordering a high quality set after I post this review. Poor Quality June 13, 2016 Not high Carbon steel. Will not hold an edge very long. Definitely not appropriate for carving hard woods. Ok for bass wood carving, that's all. Not worth it. June 6, 2016 I found them to be of poor quality. I usually don't write reviews, but this purchased prompted these words. |
