Excellent for full-size 1911s
January 15, 2017
Because I have a concealed carry licence I have had the opportunity to use this holster system a couple times with my Kimber 1911. It was very comfortable to wear, and with a winter coat it does not project in any way that lets others know I am carrying. The straps and buckles made it very easy to adjust and use, and if you tie the access out of the way the straps do not interfere with operation.
Works well but needs some modifications.
November 4, 2016
Once it is adjusted, it's all good. Two things I would modify: the tension strap that goes across the shoulders needs to be locked in place because it slides and makes the holster loose and saggy. I put a safety pin on the strap to secure it. The next thing I modified was the holster itself. I cut off the Velcro piece and just kept the snap on strap because it is bad enough that you can't extract you weapon quick enough from this holster, but the Velcro piece made it even worse. I love the double magazine capacity. I would also put the anchor strap on the holster more towards the front of the holster to keep it from swinging so far out to the side. I know I said two, but the third just came to me.
Perfect Fit
May 9, 2016
Husband absolutely loves the versatility and the comfort of this holster. The price is very affordable for all of the amenities. It's the only one he's found to hold his larger pistol with a laser sight on it. Thank you so much for making this available!
Hidden Treasure
February 4, 2016
I purchased 2 of these for Christmas to use as gifts. I wasn't too sure about the quality because they were so inexpensive, but when they arrived I was pleasantly surprised. The packaging isn't too fancy, but our boys loved the holsters themselves. They wear them all the time. They aren't too heavy or bulky and are comfortable to wear. I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a similar item but who doesn't want to spend a small fortune. Definitely worth the money!!
Cheapest 'Detective Style' Holster on the Market!
January 31, 2015
You can't go wrong with this purchase. Adjusting the holster a bit, it will lug your pistol around just fine even if you're sprinting at full speed and then some--you could even have a pistol with a silencer in this >:D. I have run a few miles non-stop with the holster on safely, and while it is a bit loose even after tightening it as much as possible, you can't complain about the $20 price tag. If you're using this as an open carry holster, I wouldn't worry too much, I think just the sight of my S&W in this bad boy sent at least one bad guy running to the hills and gave a few onlookers a sense of security. I love it because it's the cheapest detective style holster one can buy, and man, does it look sharp on top of a good dress shirt. If you're likely to wrestle with offenders while wearing your pistol, I would look into a more sturdy and expensive holster without thinking twice. This one could easily snap in all sorts of places during a struggle which is worth noting--baby it though, and it will serve you well. It doubles as a concealed carry holster if a sweater is put on, which is good. The extra mag pouches are an EXCELLENT feature.Overall, this is a professional low cost solution to holstering a weapon that can successfully be used 'in the field' with extreme discretion derivative of those fields--you get the gest. It would make a good spare holster, or loaner holster for someone you may encounter or could be in your company whom does not have a holster. If you're tight on funds and just NEED a holster, I would go for this one before any other without hesitation.
Cheap holster, super adjustable everything on it, holds my load well with little printing for carrying a 50 Desert Eagle
January 9, 2014
I had to adjust it madly when I got it. But everything is adjustable in it, including the inside of the holster itself. Once totally done, I put my 50 Desert Eagle (A massive pistol weighing 6# +- loaded) and went to the truck stop next door, dressed for winter and no one noticed or could tell it was printing. If you were using it on a more reasonably sized gun than a DE50, I think you'd be happy for the price. I'm a big fan of IWB hybrid holsters for most of my guns though, berettas, bersa's etc. I am totally satisfied since I paid like $23 for the thing. No complaints from me.

Works for tall guys
May 23, 2017
It was easy to adjust to how i neeeded it. Im a little over six foot and it rested well on my shoulders. Fits my glock with no issues. Extra clip holder is nice as well. Bought to use while I did some light four wheeling. Everything stayed in place perfectly.
Pretty Good Holster
May 2, 2017
Pretty good holster but its made in China . I had to return the first one because of stiching on the magazine pouch on the side that is close to the body. I almost missed until I took it off in the daytime and noticed the flaw in the sewing. I bought another one and it is much better as far as the sewing goes.
Happy with the what you get for the price.
February 2, 2017
Fits my fullsize 4.5" .45 xdm like a glove. However with all the rigging all the way out it barely fits me vertically. I am 6'1" the shoulders however are almost too wide with the shoulder adjustment all the way in. The double thumbreak is unwieldy and i defintely will be removing the velcro as others have done. The construction seems to be of good and reliable quality. This is not a one hand draw with the current thumb break system.Overall however I'm quite happy with it for the price
) Like others have commented
November 5, 2016
FOR the price . . ?? It's a Very versatile holster, you just HAVE to expect to get "intimate" with adjusting all the Velcro. Picture in ad show's it carrying a small sub-gun . . . I'd imagine that is possible, plus it can ADJUST for rail-mounted tac-lights . . .I am modifying MINE, by unstitching the inside clasp-strap on the holster and RE-SEWING it higher up on the holster at the same 45 degree angle. That would be repositioning the clasp to just under the hammer/slide on LEFT side of the gun, as you would hold it . . .PRIOR to doing that, that clasp was TOO LOW on the holster and when a pistol is IN the holster it wanted to tip over. (possible design change for the company??)Like others have commented, there is an extra Velcro strap that goes OVER the thumb-break . . . that will likely get snipped, and the thumb-break ITSELF is a bit TOO LONG and TOO flexible . . . I might jury-rig something to make the thumb-break STIFFER, so that it opens properly, by just pressing down with your thumb. I'm thinking of inserting some toothpicks into the thumb-break, or maybe a few pieces of paper clips . . .If you're carrying a 1911, or anything cocked-locked & loaded, getting the thumb-break "RIGHT" is important.Again, for $22 bux, I don't mind working with it . . .I'm a size 46 shirt, no problem adjusting it for my 6'2" burly frame.
Acceptable, but definitely not a 'fashion rig'
January 24, 2015
Being a large individual, I reluctantly purchase anything that might be difficult for me to wear. I wanted something that I could wear, under my coat, while working around home. I usually wear bibs and don't like pocket holsters or belt. This will hang vertically, IF YOU WEAR A BELT. There is a hook & loop strip inside that sets the depth the firearm will go into the holster. I was forced to 'seat' the firearm very, very low to prevent the concentrated weight (grip with magazine) from forcing the holster to swing outward at the bottom. The position of the downward support straps seem just a bit out of alignment to provide true vertical hang of the strap to the plastic clip, especially the outer, rear strap, causing the unit to flip the entire setup outward and try to take a position of the firearm grip being more parallel to the ground and not to the body . I wish I'd bought the 'horizontal" version - but I don't like the barrel pointing anywhere except downward when residing in the holster (full size 1911 & condition 1 - yes, I've shot 1911's since '66- so no dissertation on safety viewpoints are needed here). I've tried other firearms in the holster and all require a deep 'set' of the firearm to prevent the outward swing. There are a lot of adjustments and it takes some trial and error to reach a level of comfort with me. The shoulder supports are very good (old motorcycle-collarbone breaks are not aggravated). The magazine pouch feature is secure and easily accessible. Definitely not a Galco or DeSantis, or even an Uncle Mikes, but for the price, I'd do it again. I like that I can carry while driving as well (with a light cover garment) without seat belt 'crunch'.
Good rig, two things to consider...
August 4, 2014
I got this today, it's a good rig, well made, sturdy material. The reason I'm posting a review is because I wanted to highlight some things to consider when buying this:1) Like the other reviews say, this isn't a fast-draw holster. There's two reasons for this, the first is the snap. I solved this by removing the snap (I never use holster snaps anyway, too much to remember in a situation). If you need to wear a shoulder holster, chances are you're doing discreet carry anyway and so the vest/jack together with the holster itself should keep your sidearm in place.~However~ and this is the bigger thing, the front retaining strap to the holster crosses into and diagonally across the upper grip of the sidearm to varying degrees (tried it with M9, USP, M&P-all the same)...so in a fast draw, you need to (with your left hand if you're right handed), push the back of the holster forward and tilt it to present the grip to your right hand free of the front retaining strap. It's not a big effort, but it is an extra effort. Memory train it or don't use the holster if you need fast draw. Hopefully, the designers read this and change the design a little in Mk II. But, this feature also keeps your sidearm secure. So, it's a tradeoff and down to personal preference.2) There's seven points of adjustment with this holster: neck, magazine x 3, holster x 3. You'll need to fiddle (a lot) to find the right fit for your body type. Also, if you have a extremely tall torso, this rig may not be long enough, I estimate it'd max out for people around 6"1.Other than that, it's great, one of the better shoulder rigs and you can't beat the price.

Did not work for my purposes. It's too bulky ...
March 17, 2017
Did not work for my purposes. It's too bulky to conceal under any jacket even a heavy winter coat. This might be because of my weight. The retention strap does not work well as it comes. I cut the extra Velcro parts off and reinstalled the rest turned so it tucks under the beaver tail and it works okay.
Not great for discreet concealed carry.
March 14, 2017
I bought this, thinking it would be quite a bit more discreet. Under a nice fitting suit jacket this thing screams "I'm armed". Even under a bulky jacket, still very noticeable. I'll still use it on range day, but this is not the concealed carry solution I was looking for.
Feel cheated but then again not really
October 2, 2015
you know I was really excited about this holster it took me a while to find a vertical holster but for what I paid I feel it could have been a little better if your right handed it's a little hard with the buckle strap righ if front of the pistol lock(strap) I guess it's good if you swap it and use it left handed but it's no very, practical for my uses and it's very bulky for my pistol, I have an sd40 and it swims inside even after I adjusted all the straps but it is very comfortable (as much as can be exspected from a nylon holster) I give it 3. Stars all in all a good holster if you have a. Desert eagle or an uzi but not very tactical or practical.
Worth what I paid, but not for concealed carry.
April 8, 2012
The holster itself is great. The draw is fluid once you get the holster positioned just right. It fits my 5.5" S&W 22A target pistol just fine, so a 1911 should have no problems. The thumb strap is too flimsy to unsnap quickly, and requires more exertion of force than I like. It is also too long. I will probably replace the cumbersome thumb strap with a sturdier one from a Blackhawk hip holster. The attachment point to the harness interferes slightly with drawing as it sits in a poor position without making adjustments to clear the holster. The webbing strap at the base of the neck is extremely uncomfortable, and would do much better with some sort of padding. The mag holder is too bulky, and prints a ton even under a very large, loose black hoodie. There are tons of fiddly little adjustments especially concerning the way the pads sit on the shoulders, and how it attaches to a belt. After a couple hours of adjustment, and wearing it is "acceptable" but by no means comfortable. The quality of the material is decent, and will likely wear very well. I would recommend it for large autos at the range, out walking the dogs, or any situation where it is worn for a brief period of time, and concealment is not a concern.
Well built for price, not built for a right handed user..
December 1, 2011
For price, I really can't complain. The only problem I have with this holster--as did other reviewers--is that the outside or left front attachment strap crosses to the outside of the holster and over the butt of the handgun hindering an effective draw, rendering it almost useless.....If you are left handed, then this would not affect you at all as the front strap would be to the inside of the holster rather than to the outside of the holster obstructing your grip.My Beretta 92FS fits pretty well once I got everything adjusted. This vertical holster is more comfortable at the shoulders than the UTG horizontal model. The horizontal model is of less quality, prints more, the shoulder portion of the rig is not adjustable, and it only has a snap retention system rather than the stronger snap and velcro system as this vertical unit.As far as complaints on the velcro and snap retention system for the holster---I am OK with that--can't be too cautious if you are active and on the move when using this rig.I bought this for a quick harness when I'm taking the dog for a walk or making a quick jaunt in the winter, else I use my SHTF Gear ACE-1 holster for CC of my Beretta 92FS. For the money, it will serve it's purpose.
UTG Deluxe Vertical Shoulder Holster
November 4, 2011
This is a very well made shoulder holster and my second one made by UTG. I bought this one to hold my Taurus PT92 AR while it has either a laser sight mounted on the bottom Weaver Rail or a Holographic Red/Green Dot Sight on a custom made top rail. Unfortunately I had to subtract 2 stars for 2 very good reasons.STAR DEDUCTION #1. The holster has a MAJOR defect in craftsmanship. The way the front attachment is sewn to the gun holster is made where the front shoulder strap goes directly dead center across the gun AND the thumb break, making it very hard to get your hand around the pistol and IMPOSSIBLE to draw the weapon in a timely manor....thus getting you killed if you need to get it out fast........shame on you guys....but all is not lost.STAR DEDUCTION #2. I solved the problem by removing BOTH attachment points on the HOLSTER, and repositioning the holster in the HORIZONTAL configuration (instead of the VERTICAL configuration it came in) and hand-resewing the attachment points to the holster to fit this horizontal profile. It worked perfectly, but I HAD to deduct at least 1 star for all the work I had to do to make this thing work right.Any other time I would have simply sent it back for a refund, but I REALLY needed a holster right away......so I fixed it! It works great now with no straps getting in the way and it now quick-draws very well. I suggest you do the same if you need a specialized holster to hold your special weapon like I did.SKYNETRP

Comfortable straps, but holster is extremely problematic
September 16, 2017
The shoulder straps are comfortable and have a lot of adjustment, but the holster itself has issues. The snap is cumbersome to undo which makes it difficult to draw the firearm. The holster attaches to the shoulder straps at two places. One on the rail side of the holster, and the other on the outboard side by the trigger guard. The outboard straps come up over the back of the pistol grip and pins the firearm against your side, making it incredibly difficult to get you hand on the grip to draw the weapon. Also, the sights of my gun get snagged on the stitching inside the holster making it difficult to stow the weapon and impossible to draw the weapon quickly. It does hold the gun securely, but that's about it.I would not recommend this holster if you are carrying for personal protection. Drawing my weapon out of this holster is not easy or smooth, which, in my opinion, disqualifies this holster for concealed carry.

Two Stars
February 8, 2016
Garbage.... dont waste your money. I keep seeing questions pop up about what guns it will fit. Let's get this straight.... the thing is oversized and designed for large frame pistols. Unfortunately, even my 1911 floats in that thing even when fully adjusted to its smallest. I seriously is junk. The holster itself is nothing more than a square oversized polyester pocket with a velcro strap.... nothing more, nothing less. IMO, a true waste of money and false advertising! "UTG LE Grade"?? No LE officer/agent would ever purchase such junk. Save you hard earned cash and shop around for something better. I gave it two stars because at least the harness itself is descent and the mag pouch was usable, but as an actual holster? It failed miserably.
the design is poor. I spent the night switching things around
March 19, 2015
As mos stated, the design is poor. I spent the night switching things around, this way, then that way, and I never got it well enough to use one handed. The set up as it came had the gun and the mag pouch reversed, but correcting it only made it less uncomfortable across the shoulders. If you want it tight enough to stay close to your body, your pants will be pulled up as it secures to your belt and has to be TOO TIGHT to not flop around. It needs to be attached to a belly band to stay close to your body. Also, that Velcro/snap combo takes 2 hands to unsnap, and even if I only use only the snap or the Velcro, again, it takes 2 hands to get the gun free. Also, the front strap crosses right in front of where your hand needs to go to draw the gun out of the holster, so the first thing you need to do is hold the strap out of the way with the left hand, reach in with the right, grab the gun and hold it steady, unsnap with the left, then pull it out!I have a full sized milspec 1911 and with everything adjusted as tight as possible, the gun is still loose, so it appears to be intended for double stack full frame pistols. If you just need to securely store a gun somewhere on your body, it's ok, but don't think you are going to draw in any sort of timely manor from that thing.I was optimistic thinking others were only having issue with the adjustment, but now I wonder if all those positive reviews are from UTG employees! This will be another return so I can save up for a better holster.
Ultimately gets a failing grade
November 4, 2014
update..everything I said below is still in force.... after wearing it and carrying a full size glock in it, with every adjustment used to customize it to the size and shape of the glock I have had the gun fall out of it twice, once when I fell and the second time bending over. Over time the retention strap and strap under the barrel allow the gun to wiggle around and escape. At that point the very wide front to back pocket allows the gun to rotate butt first forward and if you bend over or say fall, you are at risk of loosing your gun. I wear a vest over the holster and once the vest kept the gun from falling to the ground. The second time the gun fell and hit the ground in my yard. This holster is not safe to use period. All that said.. I still like the shoulder holster concept. The holster has been comfortable to wear and gives me easy access when driving which I didn't have with my other holsters. I would say the harness part of this is very decent but the holster and holster attachment part are a total fail.original reviewOk.... I haven't used this thing long but here are my impressions of it.First it seems to be pretty well constructed. No quality control issues etc... It's just nylon webbing, holster and ammo holder with some plastic buckles and snaps. For 20 dollars its ok material wise. The shoulder pads and such seem to work quite well and feel fairly comfortable to me. 6'2" and 190 lbs. The straps going down to your belt work well but remember you have to undo the velcro and work them from around the belt if your going to the bathroom to drop your pants.Second.. I really dislike the design. let me tell the ways I dislike the design...a. The pistol holster is huge at the bottom. It doesn't narrow down to confine the barrel of your pistol front to back. There is just one 1 to 1.5 inch wide piece of webbing with Velcro on it that you use to support the pistol barrel at the bottom of the holster. Using the Velcro you can move it up, down and front to back. It seems in concept to work pretty well but in practice you have a thin piece of webbing that the muzzle of your pistol rests on and the rest of the almost 5 inch wide base of the holster is open. If the pistol shifts the muzzle will fall through. This can cause the pistol to shift in the holster and the front sight to potentially catch on that piece of webbing when drawing.b. Both the retention strap and the upper handle of your pistol are under/behind the forward strap on the holster coming down from the shoulder where it attaches to the holster. It seriously impedes releasing the retention strap or getting a good grip on your pistol to draw it.c. the retention strap sucks. It is hard to release and with the overlapping Velcro gets even harder to release. On my glock it also because of the design of the rest of the holster that allows the gun to shift forward and back a little bit will come off of over the pistol and no longer be securing it. I found its a little easer to release if you do not use the snap and just the outer flap of velcro to lock it down.d. the holster if not secured to your belt can tip forward if you have a full size pistol with a 15 to 17 round magazine in it. The weight of the long magazine wants to over balance the gun and move it to more of a horizontal than vertical position and pivot it on where the straps attach to the holster. The rear strap attaches more than half way to the bottom of the holster and allows the weight to tip the holster. the forward strap is on the outside of the holster from your body and attached just below the height of the magazine/handle of the pistol. If your pistol tips forward and the muzzle has fallen off the strap it rests on, or the retention strap at the top of the holster slips off then your gun can just tip and fall out potentially.e. Magazine carrier is a downward facing double unit. The flaps that fold up and Velcro to the side to retain the magazines are very long and when you pull on one to release a magazine it seriously gets in the way of a secure hold on the magazine as it drops out of the holster. The magazines drop freely and quickly. It would be very easy to fumble the magazine and drop it. Other than that the carrier sits nice and balances the pistol to some extent. It also looks as if will hold the magazines very securely. I have tested it with 15 round glock .40 magazines.Over all I wanted to test out a shoulder rig to get the pistol off of my hip. I think in concept I like the idea of a shoulder rig having tried this one. However I will not be using this one other than as a test for weight and balance of carrying a gun and magazines there.
Poorly Designed
February 22, 2014
I purchased this holster for use with new conceal carry laws in my area. I have tried it with multiple pistols.Pros:Plenty of adjustmentFairly sturdy constructionCons:Takes awhile to get it adjustedDoes not fit well with those with large buildsPoorly DesignedDoesn't fit most gunsOverall I'm not impressed. I'm a pretty active guy and was looking for a good strong holster to fit my weapons. I have tried it with both full framed and subcompacts. My loaded 1911 falls out when I bend over to pick something up. I have tried it with a friends Beretta 9mm, and an xdm 45 and nothing seems to fit this holster. I understand that it is advertised for weapons with accessories but the problem lies with the locking mechanism at the top of the holster being to far towards the front so it cannot secure the weapon properly. The other problem I have with this holster is the fact that you clearly cannot quickly draw your weapon. I can't believe that even though my weapon falls out when I bend over I still cannot remove it quickly in a standing position. It requires two hands due to the strap layout, using one hand to steady the holster and the other to remove the weapon. Save your money and move on.

worst designed shoulder rig ever
March 9, 2017
worst designed shoulder rig ever... it doesn't work and idk why you would buy it... the pistol flops around something fierce... the horizontal, while not fitting a weapon light like this one, is a much better choice! don't buy this you will regret it as I did and have to return it
CRAP
December 7, 2015
I am disappointed with both Amazon and UTG! I searched Amazon to "Vertical Shoulder holster for 1911" This was the 1st thing on the list I paid $12 for 2 day shipping and $6 to send it back. 1st of this is NOT for a 1911 or a .357 or a 9mm I may have been able to fit my AK47 in if I tried hard enough. 2nd this is NOT made for big & tall. the velcro belt straps go the wrong way and the thumb break, If you get you 1911 to stay in is crap. I would be dead before I was ever to be able to get it out in aa SD situation!! DON'T BUY IT IT'S CRAP!!!
Not made well or crafted for carrying, save your money.
September 2, 2015
When I first got and open this product I was excited because at first it looked like the materials were of a fine quality and the design looked sleek as well. However, upon trying this on myself and my gun (Jericho 941) it became painfully clear that what I bought was not a shoulder holster but in fact a piece of crap. The first problem you'll run into is that any movement more intense than a brisk walk will loosen the straps to the guns casing as well as the one that runs from shoulder to shoulder (just why?). the abundance of different straps and Velcro made it feel as if I was wearing a parachute that would come undone at any minute. The next problem is I'm left handed and when you switch the modular clips to the left handed side the gun droop to a horizontal position even actually countless adjustments and when actually carrying even when pulled as tightly as they could my gun and chips would hang clumsily and in no way was it concealed of even safe as I'm certain this holster could give and fall at any moment. Granted this holster is 20 something dollars but frankly I could making one out scraps laying around my house just as good. dont buy it.
Don't pull the trigger on this one
April 30, 2015
I did not expect much with this, and I sure didn't get much. There is virtually no way to conceal carry with this, the holster is massively bulky. I have an SW40VE that is big enough, but this shoulder holster was a joke. I'm a big guy, 5'10" 400lbs, and was going to have to modify something on this to make it work. The frame fit me, that was actually okay. The problem was I couldn't reach my pistol in a decently smooth manner no matter how long I wore it. I sent it back, figure that I will either spend the money and buy something really nice, or custom make my own out of leather. Since my wife tells me I need a hobby (and going to the range is not what she had in mind), maybe leatherwork would be a good option!
Not for concealed carry
March 5, 2013
I was just recently certified to carry concealed. I've made so many mistakes. This holster is one of them. I have had to spend hours getting it to fit right. It is almost impossible to quick draw. I have had to re-arrange the rigging so that I don't have the stupid Velcro flap over top of the button release. The tab on the button release is way too long and it is hard to find where the break is. Not to mention the front strap that connects the holster to the shoulder harness is over top of the break strap. I've rigged this thing up to circumvent some of these issues. I will not use this as my primary holster. I may use it as back up and buy a smaller pistol and a Kydex hip holster. I do like the ability to carry two extra mags or speed loaders, however, if you're in a justified shooting attack, you wouldn't have time to fool with the ammo, or drawing the pistol for that matter. You might have to hope that the attacker doesn't take the gun from you.
