Side by Side Comparison of: Songmics-Storage Ottoman

Planning to use in the RV as a footstool for our sofa as well as storage for our shoes. We set them up and they looked like they would work perfectly for our needs. They seem very strong and well made. We havent tried them out yet since are Rv is being serviced. If there is any problems once we put them to use, I will update this rating. So far am am pleased with the purchase.

We are currently living in a small aprtment. My husband likes to prop his feet up while relaxing and watching tv. This ottoman was a great find to keep the hubby happy. It is sturdy, well made, doesn't look cheap at all and quite affordable. His only complaint was that the padded top was not soft enough for him (I think it's just fine but everyone is entitled to their own opinion). His complaint was easily fixed by laying a small pillow on top for extra cushion. I love that it doubles as a storage device, since our space is so cramped it is nice to be able to stash odds and ends out of sight when needed. I am very happy with my purchase.

We bought this to replace a box my son was using as a footstool. It turns out to be almost the exact same height and a little wider so that worked out well. It took all of 1 minute to pull it out of the box and set it up. The top is fairly plush and very comfortable to put your feet on. It it sturdy so no fear of collapsing, he says he even sat on it (he's almost 6 feet tall). He stores a blanket and some video game controllers in it so that turned out to be a plus. If you're looking for something simple and sturdy but good looking and well built, this will work.

I am very happy with this ottoman. Perfect size for a footrest and a great place to store pillows or blankets. The ''leather;; covering is holding up very well to 3 cats who use it as a seat. It looks good, It functions well, And I am happy. And I also use it to sit on occasionally and it supports me fine. I might add, I am a 100# female but I am sure it would hold more.

The ottoman is nicer than I thought it would be and with the fold down design for storage, it is perfect for the RV. I would buy it again and recommend it to others. The Faux leather is nice and should wash off nice if it gets dirty.

Absolutely wonderful, i purchased two for my dining room to add the look of a built in seating area. Very satisfied with product and to have extra storage when i need is great!!!

I put these in my dining room to store daughters toys and it made my dining room so neat and look like a dining room again

Great quality, big enough, love the color. I have a queen size bed and use it as a storage chest. Good for extra storage and looks great. Easy assembly. I recommend buying from this vendor. It arrived quickly and in good condition.

I have 2 of these! Love them they are a good value and work great. I store all kinds of things in them in my entry hall and living room. They look nice and are sturdy enough to sit on and put shoes on. One is pictured in the after picture of the front hallway we were rearranging.

I love this! It took 2 seconds to put together and looks fantastic. I wanted something that I could store my son's toys in and that he could practice pulling himself up to stand with that didn't have sharp corners, and this is great!

Good item, but under desk watch out if you have a under table slider for keyboard, your shoes will hit it. Otherwise ok.

Just what I wanted. I wanted something to put under my besk at work to put my feet up. It easily hold my feet. It like .4 secs to put together and it came in the mail super fast!

I purchased two of these "smallish" ottomans and they are the perfect compact size and sturdy seating for removing boots and shoes at the door. Storage is the plus.
The price was very good.....the lightweight portability of these also makes them a good buy.
I am very happy with this purchase.

I need a ottoman to go under my desk to kick my feet up when at my desk. Worked great. And I can store some junk in it as well if need be. Was worried that this thing folded out the way it does that it wouldn't feel solid .. I was wrong ... Very Solid. Price is a bit much for what it is but worth it for what I needed.

love this little footstool. also love the extra storage. i bought it so that my 20 year old cat could hop up on it & look out the window.

I like this folding storage ottoman bench very much. It fits my propose well. I bought it for a storage bench under a bay window. I wanted some place to store files and bills but didn't want a filing cabinet. The terrible thing about this is that when I received it it was folded flat with the lid/top all stacked together, wrapped in plastic one layer of plastic. Then it was inserted into a flat box that was the exact same size as the stack with no spacers inside or any other protection. I cut open the end and proceeded to try to pull it out of the shipping box and it would NOT budge. I opened the other end and tried to push it out of the box, it still would NOT budge. So I decided I had to cut the box down one side to get it out. I did so with a box cutter, trying to be careful, thinking I was being careful but when I got it out of the box, the top lid/cushion top had been slit and the foam is now sticking out. It is totally ruined. I am very upset and disappointed. I searched the box over and no where do they warn you that cutting box is not a good idea!

Very reasonably priced and roomy! I'm using mine as a storage box in our walk in closet so can't say about how sturdy it is for sitting. It is great for closet organization and makes your closet look custom made. We did ours ourselves by getting some pieces like espresso book cases with doors and racks and this storage bench. All in all cost less than $1000 and looks similar to a $7000+ custom closet.
Two things though -
1. The brown color isn't pretty wish it was more of an espresso finish, this one is muddier. I'd recommend getting it in black.
2. The smell! OMG the smell! It took airing it for two weeks before we could put it in our closet. Now thankfully a month later it is reduced to a minimum (or our noses have adjusted ;))

I have two of these, ordered about two months apart. I loved the first one -- simple, functional, clever design -- so much so that I ordered a second one for another room. The second one arrived yesterday and it positively reeks of chemical fumes. (The first one did not. Perhaps they come from different factories?) This is no "slight smell" -- you can smell this throughout our split-level house. I am hoping another day (with the windows open) and the smell will dissipate. I still love the design but couldn't give it 5 stars because of the smell. Those who live in a small space (apartment, dorm room, etc.) and those with small children and/or chemical sensitivities might want to think twice about ordering this.

Whilst the color is a perfect off-white and the size is great, I wish that I had ordered an ottoman with an attached cover. I have a lot of stuff in this ottoman, so I go into it a lot. If the situation was such that I just stored stuff in it, it is great. I am happy with the product overall. I use it for putting the extra pillows from our bed at night on. I also sit on it to put on shoes as it's pretty strong. The quality is good. to me, it looks more expensive than it is.

I really love this ottoman! Looks great in my foyer under my entry table. Already ordered another one for my Loft!

Does smell like a lot of people say - hasn't totally dissipated and it's been a long time now. Otherwise, does the job.

Looks nice & does seem somewhat sturdy. We've had it less than a month & it already has a rip so not a very quality product.

This is nice for what it is. Nice utility for placing things in. Not especially comfortable though when using it to rest my feet. I get that feel over my heel/ankle area getting sore after resting on it a bit due to it's lack of cushion.

The inside has a funny smell, so my blankets ended up needing to be washed. Still not sure what to do about that. I may have to wash the inside some how. Other than that its what I was what I was looking for.

Looks great and sturdy but has a horrible chemical sound this is going into my daughter's bedroom for her toys replacing where her changing table was it's a cute idea but the chemical smell is so overbearing I'm going to have to air it out for a couple of days unfortunate with a new item Amazon did give me 15% and a promo gift card I guess that makes a little bit of a difference but still horrible smell so if you are buying for a child or baby's room beware!

I ordered 2 of these I loved them at first. They look great and are able to offer decent storage. HOWEVER, it's very thin and therefore can't fit much. It is also not that durable. Between my husband and my toddler, it started to get damaged within the first 2 weeks.

Bought this for my bedroom and it has lasted for about 6 months before it started to collapse . We don't stand on it or sit on it but it served it's purpose until we got something of better quality

It's not flimsy like I though it might be. But I just wish they were wider and deeper. I bought this one and and a smaller one to put all of our blankets in to get rid of the totes that clutter my spare closet. Kind of a L shape along the wall of the closet. It does the job I wanted it to, I just had to down size the amount of blankets I have. Only 2 comforters fit in the small one and about 5 throw blankets it in the big one. Kinda disappointed in size.

It looks beautiful, but I have a hard time getting over the noxious smell it emits. The directions tell you the smell is normal and that you just need to let it air out for a few days, but this is not the case. A few months later and it STILL wreaks. The base is also fairly flimsy, so it doesn't hold its shape well when you take the "lid" off. This can make it difficult to get the top back on, but once you do it is actually surprisingly sturdy. So some good and bad with this one, if the smell wasn't so terrible I would have rated it higher. It gives me a headache everytime I go to get something out of it though. Also I'm not sure if the smell would transfer to the items inside or not, I was concerned about that, so I have only used it to store items that I've already placed inside airtight bags.

While these are well built and are fine as a footrest or seat, I have not been able to get rid of the smell from inside the piece that contaminates anything else put in it. It has been more than 4 months since the purchase and the chemical smell is still strong and these pieces have been aired in a well vented lanai. I am very disappointed that the chemical smell, which reminds me of a bad barbeque or fire damage. is still present after more than four months. It could be formaldehyde or some other preservative, but it is not a pleasant aroma. We have decided to dispose of them both.

I had to return this. It was durable, but like other reviewers, the strong odor was a deal breaker. It triggered headaches immediately for me. I let it sit out for several days and the odor was still there. Also, it was a bit too small for where I wanted it. 15" is a lot smaller than it sounds. Be sure to measure carefully before purchasing and if you are sensitive to smells, stay away.

You get what you paid for. It came with a small hole in the plastic-ish fabric on the side, it's very small, miserably uncomfortable, and I wish I had not bought it. However, it was really cheap so I should not have expected too much.

This looks very cheap in person and has a horrible chemical smell that won't go away.

As noted in several of the other reviews, out of the box, this item has a very strong chemical odor that smells like paint thinner. I've read reviews of products where people complain of a smell, but this is definitely not a normal level of smell. It's also worth mentioning that the one-page advert that comes with the ottoman actually provides instructions to air out the ottoman in a well ventilated space if there is a "slight" smell. I have been airing it out for two days now and can still smell it.

The product itself is fine. The lid has a nice weight to it and it does seem sturdy, but I'm not sure it's usable if the smell doesn't go away. The interior has three hard pieces that reinforce the bottom and two sides. One of the two side reinforcement pieces was not in the box.

I should have checked the dimensions more carefully, it's definitely narrower than I would've expected. It's fairly cheap materials in that the bottom is entirely collapsable. Not a sturdy piece of furniture - and fairly noticeable that it isn't of high quality. It gets the job done if you just need something to store things in that's ok-looking though.

This item is cheaply constructed. While the lid is pretty sturdy, it does NOT have a supportive body frame at all. The inside is simply a folding material VERY similar to one of those reusable bamboo shopping bags. I will be making a wood frame to fit inside of this flimsy body so the whole thing doesn't collapse.
ALSO - beware of color description. I ordered white, and although the packaging says it's white, it is definitely a beige-tan-khaki color. :(

Ok; my mistake thinking the $56 dollar price would provide a better, stronger product. Fortunately my main purpose was to have a prop for the dogs to use making the jump onto the bed easier for the older dogs - for this purpose it works very well. The materials and workmanship of this product lends itself to a $20-$25 dollar price tag, not $56 dollars. Definitely not worth that amount of money and I recognize you get what you pay for; in this case, you get less than what you paid for given my expectations were already low given the dollar amount. I was somewhat appalled at the poor quality but, dogs don't care about that so it works for my intended purpose.

Sounded like a good idea and got good reviews so I bought it with high hopes. I've been impatient to get a bed chest to put extra pillows and blankets at foot of bed so thought this would work until I could find a piece of furniture.
First one arrived damaged. UPS driver didn't even try to deliver it. Rang bell and told me he could see in the box and it was damaged. Not sure whose fault that was but when company found out they were responsive and it was easy to deal with return as I'm a prime member so had my replacement within a couple of days.
Second one arrived quickly with no problems. Assembly was a breeze - as well it should be as there is no assembly required. :)

However, when I tried putting two pillows on each side of divider (for total of four 2 on left and 2 on right) it made sides expand just a wee bit. That was enough to keep the lid from going on. Had to struggle to make the lid go on and really was just expanded about an eighth inch or so! Finally got the sides squeezed in enough so that I could get the lid on but it was a really struggle. If I got it one one side or end, then the other wouldn't go on!. So ended up taking extra pillows out and back on side chair for them . I knew there was no way my husband was going to take the time to fight with this thing.
Next, I tried a couple of blankets and had same problem. Had to fold them in a way that they don't make sides expand at all! That's a hassle for day to day use.
For that reason, this gets only 2 stars because unless its for smaller items that aren't bulky (like blankets and pillows) the lid is nearly impossible and very frustrating. They should have made the lid with a little extra room for this very problem. The way this is made is for the lid to fit sides exactly.
So now am back to searching for a bed chest that will be easy for day to day use. I will be able to make some use of this however and also because it would be too much trouble to return so will keep it.
The slight smell some people complained about didn't bother me at all and I have numerous allergies.

poor quality. broke when putting together. Sides are very flimsy and need a middle divider to hold it up. Now they are charging me to return it.

Terrible smell inside even after days on the open air balcony. Finally sent it to the thrift shop.

For the first few days, this worked as expected. I left the top off like I was told to get rid of the smell but nearly a month later, the smell is still here. Also the middle divider does not fit properly into thedivider section and so the ottoman bench does not stand staight and so is barely suitable for sitting let alone storage

The idea of the ottoman is great but we've had it for three weeks now and the smell is so overwhelming still. It stinks so much that I had to put it in another room. If it didn't smell it would be nice, but it wreaks!

Very bad quality. Smells like plastic. The box is basically thin MDF board covered with vinyl. The dividers in the box are very flimsy and don't stay in place.

Very expensive for what you get.

Terrible product and cheap looking, you get what you pay for!! Fell apart within first couple of weeks of use. Center divider is flimsy and collapsed after a couple of weeks. Stay away if you want it for everyday use.

I am returning this item, it is not as expected. Top appeared nice, sides are flimsy and not very supportive.
