Five Star Reviews: | 78% Worth every penny July 18, 2016 One of my cats is the hardest cat I've ever had to get into a carrier. With this I can place him in the carrier and shut the door before he even realizes what's happening. It cuts down so much on the stress for me AND for him now that I don't have to wrangle him anymore. Unless you have a very very small cat, I would recommend the 24 inch kennel. I know they say the small one is up to 10 pounds, but my cats are ten pounds and I don't think I would have been able to fit them comfortably in the smallest size. I had no problems with the quality of the carrier either like another reviewer who said the holes for the door weren't properly placed. My best guess is user error for that one since it's something I actually did as well before I figured it out. When assembling there are very visible holes in the top by the door, but those AREN'T the holes you should be putting the door into. The door hinges go in the little covered protrusions which are spaced wider than the visible holes. Anyway, all in all this was worth every penny. It makes getting to the vet so much less stressful for both of us. Homes, Homes on the floor... December 5, 2015 Having just adopted brother and sister kittens that are so adorable they deserve nothing but the best, I chose the Petmate two door top load pet kennel. When the two kennels arrived I felt like I had won the lottery. There are so many to choose from and I wanted one that was safe, secure and attractive and the Petmates checked the box on each level. To get the 5 month old kittens used to the kennels, I put them on the floor, side by side, with the front doors open. It only took minutes for them to look them over and decide to walk inside. I had also ordered MidWest Quiet Time Pet Beds (fleece~~22" x 13") for them and they fit perfectly. The side-by-side kennels reminded me of travel trailers (which they are in the end) so we call the space they occupy the "Trailer Park". The kittens are often in their "trailer homes" napping and I feel sure when I need to take them to the Vet's they won't be as spooked as if it was brand new. I heartily recommend you consider this product and the bed as well. The top loading and side loading is great. The screw-together format for the top and bottom ... August 5, 2015 As you can see, my cat loves the carrier. The top loading and side loading is great. The screw-together format for the top and bottom keeps the carrier together much better compared to the 'clip' together that other carriers have. Awesome carrier February 27, 2015 About a year ago, my boyfriend and I adopted a six month old kitten and of course, we needed a carrier for her, so we got a smaller Petmate carrier. As she grew, we realized it was getting a little small for her. We took her on a trip to Florida in it and although she could lay down fine, there was absolutely no room for her to stand. When we adopted our second kitten last September, we knew that we had to get something bigger so we could put both of the cats in it if we needed to. At the end of November, we decided we were going to Minnesota for Christmas and were bringing the cats with us, so I got on Amazon and started looking at carriers. We were debating between this and the Aspen Pet Taxi Fashion Kennel, also by Petmate, because it was a bigger version of our old one. Both of the carriers we looked at were of the larger size, NOT small. The size of this carrier was the 24". We liked the Aspen Pet Taxi because it had two compartments on the top for holding treats, which was great, but we ultimately decided on this carrier because of the two door option. I must say, this was absolutely the right choice. The top door allows more light in and makes the carrier feel more open instead of a cramped little compartment. Also, the two door option allows us two different ways to put the cats in, which we have found using the top door makes life much easier (not as much struggling!). The biggest plus is that not only can a cat sit up in this carrier, both of our cats fit comfortably in it with plenty of room to move around. The cats stayed in the carrier for the majority of the trip to Minnesota, but I think that had to do with them feeling more comfortable in the carrier than out in the open car since we would leave the carrier open at home and let them explore as they wanted. I bought this carrier for only $28, which was an absolute steal in my opinion, and am waiting for the price to come down closer to $30 to buy another one since it would be nice for each cat to have her own. The only downside is that because it is so large and the cat has room to move around, it is very unsteady to carry it since the cat moves her weight back and forth from the front to the back. However, this is a very small issue that does not affect my rating of this carrier. As far as the price goes on Amazon compared to other stores (PetSmart, PetCo, Walmart, etc.) it is about the same everywhere I looked, maybe a little cheaper on Amazon. Overall, I would HIGHLY recommend this carrier, not only for cats but for smaller dogs as well. Even at $36, it is still a good deal. UPDATE: Since I've had some comments about having two cats in one carrier, I thought I'd clarify a little in my review. The one cat was a year and a half and the other a six month old kitten who wasn't full grown yet. We only had the carrier doors closed when we were getting in and out of the car and when we were in high traffic areas. Other than that, the cats had free roam of the car and access to a litter box but chose to sleep in the carrier together most of the time. Once our kitten had reached adult size, we bought another one of these carriers and currently use both when traveling or taking the cats to the vet. We could probably manage to use one carrier for both cats when making short trips, the vet's office for example, but the carrier can get quite heavy and hard to carry with two cats inside. Vet visits became so much easier May 15, 2012 I wish I got this a long time ago. The plastic is a lot thicker than I thought it would be, I didn't imagine this to be as heavy duty as it is. I hardly ever use the side door, the top door is so much easier. Gone are the days of shoving my cat in upside down and sideways and narrowly avoiding claws in my face. With the top loading all I have to do is pick up the cat and drop her in without her even realizing what happened. It is also a pretty big carrier, so if you have a larger cat I would suggest getting this. My cat is a female maine coon mix so she weighs almost 10 lbs at her skinny weight. The other cat carriers made for typical house cats were too small for her. This is maybe a little big for her but it's better than the one that was too small. The top loading door is also pretty sturdy, I was worried that it would bend when I picked up the carrier but I've had no problems with it moving at all. | 66% Great, gives the dogs much more space than your ... December 28, 2016 Great, gives the dogs much more space than your standard kennel and you can configire it to be longer if needed My Garden is Now Petsafe........ September 16, 2016 I have two of these kennels. One is to keep my dog in to encourage rest (for my hospice pooch inside the house) and the second is to keep my other naughty (non-hospice) dog out of the garden. Yes, I enclosed my garden using this kennel (and a set of the four-panel expansion kit). I finally outsmarted her. It gives a whole new meaning to the label "PetSafe." :) Works great June 17, 2016 Excellent product. I originally bought it because my oldest dog is afraid of loud noises and I needed a way to let him inside the house during 4th of July since I work 2 jobs. We keep the doggy door blocked because my house mate does not like dogs.I set the kennel up using only 7 panels. The door was where I could enter and the missing panel faces the doggy door. The kennel is nice and sturdy even with the missing panel and it can fit my 3 70 pound dogs just fine.My dogs are either lazy or well trained or a bit of both. They have never tried to get out and enjoy being able to come in the house so even with a missing panel I have no issues. As long as you properly exercise your dogs they should be just fine. I take mine on 2 mile bike rides so they sleep most of the day. Sturdy, steel construction and easy to assemble November 10, 2013 Very sturdy. Except for the fabric top, all steel contruction. Straightforward to assemble. Door latch can be a bit balky at times, but it -- and the door and its hinges -- seem strong. Plenty of room to keep our two cats from escaping when on our outside balcony. Initially I was concerned that the cats could claw through the fabric cover, but that was unfounded. Even though the cat tree inside the kennel allows them to reach the ceiling, they can't really claw at it. One unforeseen benefit: Since each panel is joined to its neighbor with two (sturdy) bolted brackets, they can be vertically offset from each other enough to accommodate an uneven floor. In our case the balcony floor slopes up in one corner to direct rain toward a center drain. By vertically offsetting the two panels in the higher corner by an inch or so the kennel can sit solidly without rocking. Definitely meets our needs. Awesome Kennel January 4, 2012 This is the best kennel we could find and at a very good price. We bought a second so we could connect them together and keep the new puppy separated from the older dog. Now that the puppy is grown, we are able to make one big kennel out of the two.We use this in our garage, so I don't have any comments on how it would hold up outside and we don't use the tarp because our dogs don't try and escape, even with an elevated pet bed.The gate also swings in and out which is good if you are sneaking the kennel into a tight space. If you need the hinges on the other side (right), just turn the whole door piece around and it functions just the same.*Update*This kennel is holding up so well and we couldn't live without it for our dogs. We have reconfigured it so many times to fit our space and it still in great condition since we keep it inside. The panels we don't use are easily stored right next to the kennel as well. We have a shiba and a terrier mix, they never try and jump/climb out, but they get plenty of exercise to ensure they are tired and don't want to get out. We have also incorporated a heat dish for the colder days in our garage. Great way to keep your pup out of the elements and cold. Great Crate! November 21, 2011 I bought this kennel to temporarily house my german shepherd for time-outs when she thinks attacking the border collie would be fun or whenever I'm using the water hose to keep her from chewing on the hose. It was unbelievably easy to put together and all we needed was a ratchet set to tighten the bolts easily. The sunshade for the top is an inexpensive canvassy/nylony material and is tied down with zip ties. We elected to not install it at this time because the kennel is in the shade. The top sunshade is not flimsy, but it would not prevent a determined dog from busting through it if they were they type to try to go over the 4-foot walls. The kennel is plenty roomy for my german shepherd, but I would not use this kennel for any kind of long-term housing of a dog. There's not enough room for a dog house and a "run" for any dog larger than a very small one. The kennel walls/fencing are very sturdy. The latch on the dog gate has to be aligned just right to go straight up and then the locking piece can be folded back. I would think that it would be very difficult for dogs to ever figure out how to open the gate on their own. And you can configure how you want the door placed because you have the ability to put the walls up one panel at a time in your own arrangement. We needed the door on the left side, unlike how it is pictured in the photo, so that was a great convenience to be able to do that. |
Four Star Reviews: | 12% Good transportation carrier with simple assembly procedures. September 14, 2017 We purchased this carrier because we have one cat that is difficult to get into a front-loading carrier and we're hoping the top-loading one will be easier for getting him in and out (haven't tried it yet). We intend to use it strictly for transportation, and not as a closed housing kennel. The color and style are exactly as pictured in the Amazon photo. The empty, inside dimensions are about 20" long x 12" wide x 13-1/2 " high. It's hard to get an exact measurement because the inside corners and edges of the carrier are curved. The sides are therefore a little wider than the actual flat bottom measurement. Both of our cats are in the 12-13 pound range and should have plenty of room in the carrier for general travel, such as a trip to the veterinarian or groomer. We would also feel comfortable using it for our 10-pound Morkie or our 15-pound Cairn Terrier for transportation purposes. We would not use the carrier as a regular, enclosed housing kennel for any of our animals because it is too small to allow them to move around comfortably, especially with bedding inside like a crate pad or blankets that would take up interior room. It would, however, be suitable for them as an open sleeping crate, with the door removed. If you need a carrier for housing a pet of more than about 8 pounds for longer periods, you might want to get something a little larger. There's enough room to curl up and sleep and to shift position, but it probably would not be comfortable for standing up or to be used as a longer-term kennel.Pros:- The carrier itself is reasonably sturdy, similar to other carriers we have for our pets.- It's not too heavy, about 2-3 pounds.- Because of the grated, top-loading door, there should be good air circulation from all four sides and the top of the carrier.- The written assembly procedure itself is easy to follow and pretty intuitive.- The top door comes pre-inserted so you don't have to assemble it.- The front door was easy to insert and the spring loaded opening mechanism on the top and side doors are easy to use - the spring holds tight, but is not difficult to pinch and hold open like some other carriers we've had.- To attach the two halves, you use supplied metal screws and plastic wingnuts inserted in holes placed around the edges of each half, which is a simple procedure to follow.Cons:Putting together the top and bottom halves of the carrier with the supplied hardware, while not complicated, was slightly difficult for two reasons1) There was one manufacturing / quality control issue - A few of the assembly holes punched in the carrier were uneven, too small or not punched out completely, so I had to widen them slightly or the screws would not fit through them properly. This was simple to do with a screwdriver.2) The plastic wing nuts fit snugly on the screws (which is good), but it makes them a bit difficult to twist onto the screws. This shouldn't be a problem if you have good hand strength, but could be challenging if you have arthritis (I have a little arthritis in my hands), carpal tunnel or just weak hand strength. You might have to use a pliers to fully tighten the wing nuts, or get someone with stronger hands to screw them on completely.3) The top door is not removable at all and the side door is not removable unless you disassemble the crate. For comparison, our favorite overall pet crate is the PETMATE 290272 19 by 12.7 by 11.5-Inch Navigator for Pets, Tan/Brown that has a door with rotating, compass-style latches on both sides of the door so that the door can be completely removed without taking the crate apart. It's also very simple to assemble and disassemble. However, it doesn't have the top-loading feature. We have the Petmate Navigator crate in 3 different sizes, and the largest one we used to actually kennel our dogs for several hours at a time when they were puppies, when we we weren't home and at night, until they became fully house trained. We like this carrier better than some others we've owned and would recommend it for transporting small pets up to about 10-15 pounds, especially if you prefer to have a top-loading feature. Some speed bumps in shipping, but great carrier! *Updated* January 23, 2017 It got here today. I love it. But I didn't receive any nuts and bolts to attach the top and bottom pieces. So I am exchanging. 1 star, as this seems to be a pretty common occurrence with this product according to other reviewers. If my exchange comes through 100% I'll update my opinion accordingly. Update: my exchange came through very quickly! Amazon sent me a whole new kennel with all the necessary pieces to put it together. We've used it several times now. It's a great carrier; very sturdy and lots of space to accommodate my 12lb fur baby. Love the top door; makes trips to the vet and the groomer quick and easy for everyone. JUST RIGHT FOR LARGER CAT November 9, 2016 Just got this today, I finally got something better suited for my large cat. We are a military family so move often and this will work great for our upcoming move this summer. I was having a hard time finding something I liked, was a decent price and big enough but not too big. I was skeptical on ordering this, afraid it may be too small or end up with the wrong bolts as many reviews stated but everything worked out great. Make sure to order it from Amazon as the seller and i think that takes care of the bolt issue some were having. Size.. I can't say exactly his weight but i know he's about 15lbs, he has plenty of room to stand up and turn around if he'd like, with some toys. He's never had a crate before but surprisingly seems to like it, I have it left out for him to come and go as he pleases so when its time to shut him in maybe it won't be so traumatic (He has a very hard time traveling!) Love that the top opens up as i know that tends to be easier to use when they are a bit panicked (like at the vet). He's 7 years old and set in his ways so I'm glad to see he's taken a liking to it. I'll post some pics to hopefully help others with size questions as i found photo reviews the most helpful for me GREAT product, wrong bolts! September 27, 2016 I really love this item, except for the fact that it came with the incorrect size of bolts! I returned it the first time, the replacement came with again, the wrong size of bolts! I chatted with a CSR and they said they will investigate the problem. I was looking forward to having this crate! I may just end up going and buying some wing nuts that fit the bolts so that I can still use the crate, because I need a good top loading crate (I use them for chickens ;) and I have to say, it's much easier trying to get them in and out from the top!) Smaller than it looks November 15, 2012 Good sturdy pet carrier but much smaller overall than the 24 inch kennel. I would suggest going up to the next size if you have an adult cat over 8 lbs., especially if you have a long drive to the vet or they need to be in it for an extended period of time. This is a good size for a kitten or toy size puppy. | 12% Perfect January 10, 2016 Update: its been one year since i purchased this. I moved homes and as this was in the back if my truck, itfell out. Thought it busted to pieces. Picked everything up and put it back together. Its still in perfect shape. No rust, no bending in the wires.Fits my small dogs perfectly. 2 min pins and a poodle. I moved and took it with me so now it's actually on my enclosed porch as a kennel. Adequate. June 3, 2015 Seems ok for my chickens. They now say they want a tarp over it. I may get another with the extensions. Top shade cover does not fit. July 26, 2012 Actual dimensions of the cage is 57 1/2 inches. Five foot is 60 inches. The sunscreen provided for the top measured 53 inches X 53 inches. Using the supplied ty-wraps to hold it into place would leave a gap of at least 2" all around the edges. That's if you can get it to tighten evenly on all sides. The directions show the tarp covering the entire top of the cage. I have a very little dog and am slightly concerned with something getting in the space. I put the screen on the side of the kennel to help block afternoon sun and am using a larger tarp over the top. It is more secure. If you did tighten it to one side, there would be a 4" gap on the opposite side. Someone goofed on this. The cage itself is well made and was easy to assemble. Seems like a quality product. All in all I am happy with the purchase, I was just disappointed the sunscreen did not fit the top from side to side. Still give it a high rating though. great kennel July 5, 2010 we have small dogs and this kennel is sturdy, easy to put together and perfect for them. A great kennel and sun shade is a necessity in summer months. |
Three Star Reviews: | 4% Way to small for kitten & you pay return postage. May 10, 2017 Very nice carrier, just way to small for my 5 month kitten. Says up to 10 pounds but the kitty is no more then 5. Great construction and do love the 2 door style. My friend gave me a 23" and the couple extra inches makes a huge difference. I also have to pay nearly $10 to send it back - bummer as I am a Prime member. Good size, like the top and side doors, some screw holes defective. Carry large/overweight cats with caution. April 8, 2017 Pros: Big enough for short trips with my medium-size cat (8-10 lb). I like the top and side entry options. Cons: Some of the holes for the screws/bolts weren't big enough/had plastic remnants covering them and I had to force the screws in a bit. Also, two of the screws wouldn't screw in all the way because of this problem. I'm hoping that the carrier will hold together anyway, it seems pretty solid despite this defect, but let's just say I'm glad my cat isn't overweight. I would like a bigger top opening November 20, 2016 I would like a bigger top opening, since I'm going to have to shove a reluctant cat into the carrier. And I hope the top is strong enough to support a lot of weight. I love the carrier September 15, 2016 I love the carrier, but I think I received the wrong hardware pack with the carrier. The two main pieces are fastened together at the lip with bolts & nuts. There are 9 holes and I received 5 bolts and 7 nuts. The nuts are closed on the end and the bolts are too long to fasten securely. :( I have to go to the hardware store before I can use the carrier. Hard to open/close front door November 9, 2015 Pros: It has two doors. I adopted a kitten that my sister-in-law rescued from a storm drain, so I wasn't sure how she would do with going in and out of her carrier. Cats I had in the past would never go in the carrier unless we were leaving the vet's office so I thought having a top door would be handy. It also helps for cleaning the carrier and putting (in my case) magazine pages into it in case of messes. Cons: It's a good thing it has two doors because it's hard to open and close the front door. Because a piece of plastic blocks the front door I have to use both hands to close it: one hand on the back and the other on the front to shove the door past the plastic. This piece is obviously part of the design and the carrier is not flawed. | 10% Not good for my Pitbull. June 11, 2016 Not for my dog. He chewed right through it. Pitbulls will get out. Could be great for another breed, just not mines. ... cage for my dog so I would have a good place to keep her while I was at work January 5, 2015 I bought the cage for my dog so I would have a good place to keep her while I was at work. The cage is made good except for one flaw. The way the latch is made my dog is able to jump up and and unlatch it and get out. It the latch was designed better I would have given it five stars PetSafe Cottage October 11, 2011 Then Kennel went together fairly easy and arrived in a very timely manner. However, there was rust on several of the pieces, which would indicate that either the piece was rusted prior to getting the powder coating or that the powder coating was inferior. I was going to return the kennel, however because we were in desperate need of a way to keep our pets safe during a construction project, there wasn't time. |
Two Star Reviews: | 2% Missing handle December 9, 2016 Ordered a week before my move. I had to drive over five hours to new home so I wanted my cat to be safe/comfy in this. Install was easy but found out top handle was missing after I completely installed the box. Did not have time to return/exchange so had to hold the entire box (my cat is 15lb & box itself is heavy) to car in and out from my house. Not a good experience. 2 kittens would be comfortable in this November 10, 2016 I had to return both petmate kennels. There 24in appeared to be way too small for my cats.2 kittens would be comfortable in this, not an average size cat, there would be no room to turn around. In addition, this website doesn't seem to offer a larger size. After informing Amazon of the insufficiant kennel size for one cat,it appears that they're preparing to ship out the same 24in that i just returned. I only had this item for an hour but I could see right away when I opened the package that it would be way too small for my cats. Unfortunately this review can't include my experience using it since I just got it. But I can say that it looks like a solid piece of construction. My only issue was the small size. Not Impressed. September 27, 2016 The screws that came with this weren't enough to secure the kennel all around. There are 9 holes around the carrier that secure the top and bottom parts together. I only received six bolts and wing nuts. Also, the bolts that came with it were so long, that the wing nuts that were included did not screw on tightly. I assembled the kennel and i could still lift off the top part. Useless. I'm keeping the carrier, but I'm just going to use zip ties to secure it. the "Large" is small!! November 16, 2015 The crate was way too small for my small boston terrier dog. I thought this said free returns when i ordered it and since it came from amazon i thought i could return it however when i went to return it i found it would cost me $10 to return. a little less than half the cost of the crate..so i'm keeping it even though I don't need it. not happy with this purchase. I ordered the "Large size" also... so unless your dog is small like a chihuahua which I also have but she didn't need another crate.. your dog will be too big for this crate. 10 lbs and under maybe 15 max. Barely Fits A Kitten!! September 3, 2015 I bought this carrier for my kitten who is 3 months old and weighs 1.9lbs. I wanted one the size of my roommates...which this was supposed to be. It is actually way smaller than the size it says! I am so surprised and disappointed. I am very disappointed in the width of this carrier. If my cat was andany bigger, she would not be able to move in this carrier at all. In no way can this fit a 10 pound cat. My roommates cat is 9lbs and did not fit into it today. It is too late for me to return this carrier because I need it to travel this weekend. I have also seen the larger carrier at Petco and that carrier is way too big for one cat. I wish they would make a size that was in between these two sizes that has two doors as well. Listen to the reviews and only buy this carrier if you have a very small cat! | 5% I'm sure it would have worked had all the parts been there.... December 21, 2014 Was missing parts - had to have the recipient return the item Not worth the money - look elsewhere if your dog is large! October 5, 2012 I never write online reviews, so the fact that I am wriing this says something in itself. Bought this product to use inside a spare room of my house. This wasn't cheap, so had some expectation of getting good usage out of it. Not so.Assembly takes more than the hour the directions indicate. Lots of packaging to unwrap first, which I think is good, it helps protect the product. Sill, there were scratches in the protective, black coating of the wire when I opened the packaging. To assemble, you place two panels together, then place a clamp around them and tighten the nut on the bolt. You do this on the top of the panels and then again on the bottom. At first, I tightened them as I went along. I had purchased expansion panels as well, so was also installing them at the same time. Half way through installation, ran into a problem. The panels weren't settling well, and some of the legs on the bottom of the panels weren't touching the floor. So went and loosened all the bolts to try to even the panels out. When you loosen the nuts on the top clamps, they slide all the way down the panels. So annoying! There is nothing to keep them from sliding all the way down the panel. So you have to constantly slide them back up and tighten. Very time consuming. Finally got the whole thing together. Looked great and seemed sturdy. Put a 70lb American Bulldog in the pen. When I went to sleep, all was fine. Not the case when I woke up.The dog had pushed the pen so it was all contorted where it gets bracketed in place. The brackets didn't hold up to the dog and came loose and slid down the panels again, just like when I was putting the kennel together. More concerning, the dog dug at the gate and totally broke where the crisscross of wire is welded to the frame. The welding did not hold up well at all.So after less than 24 hrs of use, my gate panel was broken and so I whipped out the warranty info. "Animal damage" not covered by the warranty. To fix the gate would require steel wires and welding. Sigh. So I looked online to order a replacement gate. Couldn't find one. Could only find expansion panels.Called PetSafe next. They answered quickly, left me on hold and then said they don't offer replacement gate panels. The suggested I search EBay to find a used kennel or gate. Unreal. So, I spent hundreds of dollars on a kennel and the key piece - the gate - cant be replaced! So the whole kennel is now unusable... and yes I checked and can't find a single used gate panel online. Door rusted through in 23 months. March 30, 2011 Positives: We put it together in less than 30 minutes. Very sturdy, and well packaged. If you have a larger dog, you may want to buy the expansion panels as my dog house takes up nearly 1/2 of the space. Loved it until rust came and destroyed many parts.Negatives: Door was completely rusted through in 23 months. I simply touched the door one day after not using it for a while and the door fell OFF. I called and emailed company, they were no help and did not offer to help in any way nor could I buy a new door separately. |
One Star Reviews: | 4% Careless workmanship hurt my pet September 17, 2017 This carrier seemed to be working well for the first year or so I had it. My kitty is long and tall and needed a bigger carrier than most. She seemed to like it and even slept in it at times. However, when I recently shut the front door on her in order to keep her from bolting when the vet entered the room (her vet comes to the house), she got very upset and ended up with a cut on her nose. It seemed to me that the inside of a crate should be a safe place, but in feeling around inside I realized that those little peep and vent holes are ragged and sharp on the inside of the carrier. I consider this extremely shabby and unsafe workmanship and the carrier is going out for trash pickup tomorrow night. BUYER BEWARE September 14, 2017 With all the great reviews this cat carrier enjoys I was so surprised to receive probably the worst product I have ever ordered from Amazon (and I buy stuff a lot!). First I noticed an irregularly shaped dime sized hole in the top right corner, but I actually would have kept it had that been the only problem. I have two other cat carriers so I know how they work, this is not exactly rocket science. I put the door in the appropriate hole in the bottom, and the hole in the top--so far so good. But wait, the door is about an inch too big for the doorway. It wasn't even close. Maybe they sent me the wrong door. Anyway, it's obviously unusable, and is going back. The best thing about this whole process is that Amazon made returning it very easy. I'm baffled by all the good reviews. My recommendation is BUYER BEWARE. Don't buy! October 3, 2016 Don't buy! I neglected to read the recent reviews and mine came with less hardware and the wrong hardware. It needs 8 screws and wingnuts. It came with 5 and the screws were about 1" too long... Returning this and buying one at a local pet store. Received 6 bolts and 5 wing nuts. The bolts ... September 18, 2016 Received 6 bolts and 5 wing nuts. The bolts are about 1/2 an inch to long for the nuts to secure the top and bottom together. Returning item Front door too big to attach, had to return August 5, 2014 Mine arrived and the front door latch and hinge holes would not line up. You could attach the hinge side but the door was too big to fit. Returned and bought something locally. | 7% NOT durable! March 28, 2015 Our 25lb Scottish terrier mix bit through one wire and pulled it up creating a hole. He also bent the other two wires next to the hole he created in working to get out. He did this in two days worth of use. I DO NOT recommend this product AT ALL! YOUR DOG MAY BE ABLE TO BITE THROUGH THESE WIRES. BEWARE, October 22, 2014 Purchased this kennel on another website about three years ago as it was less expensive (which is usually not the case). Had in my cellar, and made it a 5x10 by purchasing the four panel expansion kit. Since that time I noticed that my 55 lb. black lab has been chewing at the wiring on the door, taking the paint of same and bending the wires. I was somewhat okay with that until I just discovered that he ended up breaking one of the wires at it's base, which now makes it a hazard unless I cut the wire off, giving him the ability to stick his nose through (update - in taking photos for this the wire fell off, so now I have a hole). I was pretty happy with the purchase, and with another Petsafe product (the wireless pet containment system) until this happened. You would have thought the product would be designed sturdier to prevent the ability of a dog to bite through the wire. Again, my dog is only a 55 lb. lab. Pictures of the damage attached. Two pix show the before I broke the wire, and another after I moved the wire to take a picture, which broke it. You will note the wires are really crooked. They're supposed to be straight. The attached pictures downloaded sideways.Called company. Granted it was two years out-of-warranty, but I thought I would at least be able to get a replacement door "on the house," or at a discount. No - you can't by just one panel, nor can you buy the door panel individually. As another reviewer stated, you either buy a four pack, or a whole new kennel to get the door. They were only willing to give 30% off of the four pack (which doesn't do many any good as it doesn't contain the door) or off of a whole new kennel, which would have run me $196 not including shipping. As you can see you can buy it on amazon for about the same money, meaning they did squat for me. Customer service rep was pleasant enough, but was not able to do anything further.Unless you have a dog that wouldn't be able to bite through the metal wiring (I thought we didn't either), stay away from this product. Horrible product - shoddy quality-no customer service September 28, 2012 I bought this for my 35 lb lab/pointer. I set it up inside my garage to keep him safe while I worked, and he was in it for 9 hours at a time. Within the first two days, the wires running up and down fell off. These were assembled at the factory, not any part of what I had to assemble. It got to where he could fit his head thru holes in the side panels, and could possibly be choked. I emailed the company and received NO response. I've had it for less than a month now and it is totally worthless and unusable --a complete waste of $200. This is the poorest quality product I've ever bought off amazon. I would NEVER recommend this to anyone. And since no one t this company would answer my email, I would not recommend anything from Petsafe. Can NOT Buy Additional Panels Separately May 30, 2012 I purchased the Pet Safe 5x10x6H kennel two years ago. Excellent quality. Definitely sturdy enough to contain my 96 pound female GSD when the need arises. Some months later; I tried to find/buy extra panels. Petsafe had discontinued the product, no panels to be found anywhere. Now, having just gotten a new GSD puppy, I purchased this PetSafe Cottageview 5x5x4 kennel. I thought the 4 foot height in the livingroom would not be as unattractive as a 6 foot kennel. To begin, I was pretty disapointed in the quality. It is very light weight, the door latch is flimsy, and (I should have known) it is assembled with all 2-1/2 ft panels, which greatly reduces the sturdy factor and doubles the assembly time - just in case you are planning it to be mobile. What REALLY made me decide to RETURN IT was the fact that it was advertised as "EXPANDABLE WITH ACCESSORY PANELS". Come to learn, Amazon only sells the panels in a SET OF 4, NO gate panel. Having called PetSafe, I was told they do not have ANY gate panels ANYWHERE or std panels to sell separately. They stated they are coming out with a new design kennel, and this one is possibly going to be discontinued. When I asked how I would expand this kennel with another gate and two more panels, or get parts, they said I could not, but was more than welcome to purchase another COMPLETE kennel. Now I am beginning to wonder if this is PetSafe's sales and marketing strategy. Design/sell kennels and discontinue them every 18 +/- months? I will not buy another Pet Safe product. My first return to Amazon, so far so good. They provided an RMA immediately, and the product should arrive to them tomorrow. |
