It makes enough popcorn to fill a large theater-size popcorn tub and is easy to clean
March 26, 2017
My husband is an avid popcorn lover and a popcorn critic. He has now used this popcorn maker almost every night since he received it on Feb. 14. Needless to say, he loves it! It makes enough popcorn to fill a large theater-size popcorn tub and is easy to clean. It is now a permanent piece in our kitchen nook. We make popcorn to bring to snacks to our bible studies. This was a hit all around.
Fantastic Popper
February 23, 2017
I placed my order for this popper at approx 8:30-9:00pm on Tues and it was delivered at about 10am this morning, Thursday. It was in perfect condition right out of the box. I had the kettle in and the doors on in under 15 min and had my 1st batch of delicious, crisp, salty popcorn shortly thereafter. This paper replaced a Nostalgia popper with a 2 1/2oz kettle that usually had more old maids than popped corn. I couldn't believe it when I was done and cleaned it up. After 2 batches I only had about a dozen old maids in the catch pan. This is mainly for home use but I am planning on offering to bring it to my church for special functions to make fresh popcorn for the crowd.
Love it!!

LOVE it!! We have 3 young kids and I LOVE going down to this machine and just making up a batch at least once a week! We have let the popcorn sit in it for up to 3 days and the popcorn still tastes great!Make sure to heat up the pot, long enough. We noticed a lot of un-poped kernels but after we let the pot heat up longer before adding the kernels that made a big difference!
A perfect popper!

We love this machine! It makes true movie theater popcorn. This is our second popper because the person who bought our house when we moved insisted to have our first popper as a contingency of sale (weird, I know. I guess you can say this popper is so good, it sold our house!). The easiest way to make popcorn is to buy the pre-measured popcorn packs that have oil, salt and popcorn. The machine is easy to use and a fun snack for movie time, sleepovers, friends, etc... One pre-measured pack is plenty for 4-6 people. If you need more, the machine will hold *2-3 batches and keeps it warm and crispy. (*do not try to pop more than one batch in the kettle at a time. Pop separate batches). It also makes the house smell great!Bottom line, this is a well built, sturdy, all glass and metal machine that is great quality. We had our first machine for 2 years and used it constantly and it was still going strong when we moved. We look forward to many years of awesome popcorn with our new machine.
Love the popcorn popper!

We've always wanted a popcorn popper that makes more like theater popcorn and this is it! We've only used it a few times since we purchased it a month ago, but so far it works great. It takes a little learning in order to know the correct amount of oil vs. popcorn vs. seasoning, but after a couple taste tests, you'll find your liking. As much as our family likes popcorn, we hope this machine will last a long time!
Love this Popcorn Popper!!

Bought this as my husbands Christmas present and I have to say I wish we would have gotten one sooner!! OMGosh - This thing is amazing :) Super fast and super quiet running motor. We love it!! He has always wanted one and this Popcorn Popper does not disappoint! We aren't using the commercial packets to pop - instead are popping using 1/4 cup coconut oil to 1 cup popcorn and it is AMAZING!!! Perfect Perfect Perfect!! The most delicious popcorn ever! We went to the movie theater yesterday and my husband always has theater popcorn and he passed on it saying ours at home is better!! Which is saying something if you like theater popcorn! I love it too especially with my food allergies, we know what we are eating which is perfect for us!

Best popcorn popper hands down
August 21, 2016
Popcorn at its best. Fast and easy to use. I use Walgreen's brand popcorn, and it pops up so nicely. I don't put the butter on the dome top, I just melt it in a small gravy boat for easy pouring and less clean up. Each kernel pops up nicely and nothing burns. I wanted to get away from the microwave popcorn with the concerns I've read about. We tried just using paper bags and popcorn for air popped and it did work, but this really is the best tasting way to prepare it. The children love to watch it pop, and they are always ready to help finish the bowl and pop more. I use about two to three tablespoons of olive oil and half a cup of popcorn per batch. It does get very hot, so you need to be mindful of that when handling the base.
Great popper!
August 11, 2016
Makes great popcorn. I mix either 2 Tbsp coconut oil or vegetable oil with about 1.5 tsp flavacol and pour that into the popper before adding 2/3 popcorn kernels. Plug it in, put the lid (minus the black top) on and wait for the best homemade popcorn! It only takes about 4 or 5 minutes at max to pop. My children get excited every time they watch it pop. The unit will reverse the arms if it starts to get difficult to spin due to kernels. We have never had burned popcorn and almost always have very few unpopped kernels. My only complaint is that it is rather large. I have yet to find a place in my kitchen cabinets to store it when not in use.
Whats Popping

Loving loving this pop corn popper ! 2 thumbs up .... as soon as it arrived i used it and this was my amazing experience, first of all I would recommned you buying the top of the line pop corn and pop corn oil, it will make a difference. So i bought me the Orville Redenbacher's 100% natural no GMO original, and the Orville popping and topping oil.....OMG! i had 2 pop corn seeds left yes 2 count them seeds left the first time i used and on the second time using it i had a half pop and half seed left. this West Bend gets the job done. a little oil goes a long way popcorn was NOT greasy at all it was light and fluffy the popcorn was also big.. they were popped to their fullest size pretty big size popcorn. I would recommend this item and I would purchase again.
Great with using Olive Oil!
February 10, 2015
I had one of those small air poppers, and finally got fed up with the constant spitting out unpopped kernels and having to replace & re-start the unit over and over to get a big bowl of popcorn. It was taking 20-25 minutes of frustration. So, I finally got this to replace it. This product DOES use oil to pop the popcorn. However, it works (and tastes) great with olive oil to keep it healthy. Just pour the oil in, then the popcorn kernels, put the lid on and plug it in. In 5 minutes, you will have tasty popcorn with no unpopped kernels!Another footnote: The basic recipe is 1Tbsp oil (and 1 Tbsp butter if you use it) and 1/3 cup popcorn. The unit can make up to triple of this in one shot. Write it down on a small piece of paper, then tape it to the power cord. This way you always have the correct proportions convenient each time you use it. They are printed in the included manual, but who wants to dig that out and flip through the pages every time they want popcorn??A great product and very recommended over those small air poppers.

Great popcorn maker! Fun to use; we enjoy watching it pop! Sometimes I use sesame oil or peanut oil to pop them in to give the popcorn some extra flavor. I also sometimes sprinkle brewers yeast over a drizzle of olive oil on the corn when it's done for some added nutrition and great taste. We buy organic corn from the bulk section and that way I feel better about eating corn as a snack since it's not genetically modified or filled with crazy pesticides and such. This was a good way we could know what we are eating and have a delicious treat for our movie nights.Pros: --Clear dome for viewing popcorn pop, hehe --Super fast to heat up and pop the corn --Simple, easy cleanup --We know what we're eatingCons: --Don't know about the black plastic lid on top of the dome - we might need to take that off because it interferes with cleanup, and we know to avoid burning ourselves on the steam.--Can be difficult to get clean, as with anything coming in contact with oil, but we found that just using straight soap with no water worked well to cut the oil
Works great

I read most of the product reviews before making the purchase. Most of the reviews centered around the stirring arms scraping the sides or bottoms. So when I got mine I plugged it in and sure enough one of the arms dragged on the bottom. A simple pull on the arm to bend it up a little had it free and working perfect. Yes, the kernels get caught between the arms and the bottom but this appears to be normal and no cause for alarm. As for popping, I bought a 3 pack of popcorn with it just to have when it got here. A tad pricey though, but it was good. The unit came with tips about popcorn in general, which I followed. Went to the store and acquired some fresh popcorn at a very low price. Popped up perfectly, way better than I expected. Easily pops 99.9% of all the kernels. Don't use the butter feature though, works, but makes the popcorn soggy. When done you unplug, flip it over and use the cover for your container. Works fast too, about 5 minutes from start to finish with no burned popcorn. Tip: Don't use butter, oil only. Add the butter after your finished. Surface is nonstick so it cleans up easy.

The smile on my Supvrs face was like a kid with a new toy
June 12, 2017
This unit is huge! Too biggly for my house, so I took it to work. The smile on my Supvrs face was like a kid with a new toy!We use it up to three times daily, clean once daily. So far no signs of rust on the ceiling as some users have reported. Easy instructions are printed on the glass doors, The bottom plate has a warmer to keep popcorn warm!
Good machine that makes great popcorn
January 5, 2017
Overall I really like this popcorn machine. We bought the Roosevelt as a family gift for Christmas. My 9 year old daughter and 13 year old son were so excited to open it up, especially since it was a rather large box. We wanted a popcorn machine that could make movie theatre quality popcorn and many of the reviews confirmed this was the machine to do it. Rather than getting the pre-measured packets, we bought a jug of coconut oil and flavacol from Amazon and it came with a bag of popcorn. This is really the most cost effective way to go. It has taken some trial and error to get the combination and process just right. We tried a few different ways from other reviews, but for us this is the best. Put 1/3 cup of coconut oil in the kettle and turn on the burner. Once the oil melts, put in 2/3 cup of kernels, turn on the stirrer, and sprinkle in not quite a teaspoon of flavacol. Once the popcorn is done popping tip the kettle and shake out the remaining popcorn. I found that if you put in more than 2/3 cup of kernels, many of them spill out of the kettle as the popcorn pops and you waste a lot. You end up with about the same amount of popped popcorn and have less waste. Also, when using too many kernels you end up with quite a bit of popcorn that didn't get coated in the oil and then you don't get the movie theatre taste. Following this process, the popcorn is awesome and is really better than the movie theatre.Clean up takes a little commitment. I wipe out the cabinet with a damp sponge and then with dry towel. Be sure to get the ceiling, otherwise the splatter may pit the metal after time. Take out the kettle and wipe it out with a paper towel to get the crumbs and excess oil. Then I wipe out the kettle with a damp sponge and a dry towel. Be careful. The sheet metal on the kettle and the arms that hang down from the top of the machine are sharp! I have cut myself a few times now wiping it out. It takes me about 10 minutes to clean up the machine. It is worth it though, the popcorn is that good.I wish this machine had a warming tray. It has a warming lamp, but it is in the corner with a small bulb and only keeps that corner warm. If you make a lot of popcorn, the opposite corner won't stay warm for very long.Overall we love the machine, but next time I would make sure I got one with the warming tray.
Great buy with easy and minimal installation required
January 3, 2017
Purchased as morale for our team. Easy and minimal installation process. We were "up and popping" within about 15 minutes of opening the box, if not less. Only issues we had were dings with the popcorn machine itself, likely from shipping, that may some parts not go together as easily. Nothing so major that made it worth it to exchange. Specifically, one of the hinges for the glass door required tightening with the screws and the metal drawer that collects the loose pieces of popcorn underneath the machine does not slide in/out easily due to some misshapen metal. Overall, a great and easy purchase.Side note: we also purchase the 8-ounce portion packs and they are nice and easy - no measuring required and the coconut oil comes out easier than expected.https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000PDY3HI/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1
Good Product and Fun Add to Movie Night
May 3, 2016
We replaced a smaller popcorn machine with this larger model which has more features. It was easy to assemble out of the carton and fit well on the table we have in our t.v. room. It is just my husband and I, but we love watching movies on occasional Saturday nights. We kept the original smaller machine for about a year with the idea that, if we used it and enjoyed it regularly, we would upgrade. This is the machine we upgraded to. Our grandchildren love it, and we make plenty of fresh popcorn whenever they are staying with us. It is a nice machine. Love the glass which doesn't get too messy during popping, and is easy to keep clean and nice looking. The pot does retain popcorn and oil residue, but that doesn't seem to have been a problem thus far. We do clean it by wiping with a damp cloth per the manual that came with the machine. The popcorn holders weren't great...the dye seemed to smear which is a bit disturbing, so we decided to not keep them. Like the popcorn scoop and the access to the popcorn via the tilt-out panel in the front. Overall a nice addition to our home. Not super expensive and good quality for the investment. Like that the company is offering a charity donation for a review. This review is not biased due to the donation option, but did motivate me to post one.
Great Popcorn!
November 10, 2015
We've had this popper for awhile now. When it arrived, the seed drawer was so bent that it would not fit into the slot. My husband had to fix that. It was not done during shipping as it was very well packed. Quality control should have caught this. Makes good popcorn, easy to clean. That is if you clean it after every use. One draw back is that the entire edge inside of the popper is very hard to clean. Small pieces get into the edge and can't be wiped up. Other than that, it's a great popper.
Great Machine.

Ok, let me start of by saying I am a very picky and an admitted indecisive buyer. I gather the most research and info available when making a purchase, especially on electrical type products. For the most part, all the reviews on this machine were VERY GOOD with a very small amount of negative reviews. However, I always tend to read the worse first. With that said, My machine arrived much quicker than estimated delivery date. A total of 2 days from purchase to delivery. I had no visible flaws with the machine when pulled out of the packing. NO dents, NO scratches, NO missing parts. To be honest I have been to the local party store and checked out their commercial grade paragon machine that they use for rentals and big events. I also checked out another professional model for about $500 at another local store. I believe the brand was Gold Metal?? I can tell you now, that the difference between this machine and the other higher priced models are extremely miniscue if any. To be honest, the construction was very similar if not the same. The Roosevelt 8oz is built with heavy glass doors, and stainless steel. The kettle mechanism is built and no different than the other higher end models. Not sure if the components or motor used are the main factors in price, but I have to say I was not expecting much in durable quality as the higher priced machines I saw in person. The result? I was extremely surprised to find the Roosevelt was on par in quality. Keep in mind, I found the machine brand new on Amazon for $130 brand new with free shipping. Two hours later, when I showed my wife the machine I purchased, the price was now at $200. Not sure how or why, but apparently I got a great deal. Timing is everything I guess. Assembly was extremely fast and easy. No tools required. The only thing that caused me a slight problem.. and I still don't know why, was lining up the kettle with the two holders, and turning pin. For some reason I struggled with this for several minutes before getting it put in place. Now, I have read some reviews where some people mention the doors not aligning properly with the top, or sealing correctly. Well, its not suppose to. Its made to have a gap for ventilation. My bottom flip drawer opens and closes properly, it does not pop out of place as some have mentioned. As far as cleaning? I have not removed the kettle, but did not find it a nightmare to wipe completely clean. Not sure why some are mentioning having to use a screwdriver to get the lid off, etc. etc.. to clean properly. Keep in mind,, you are talking about oils and the like. You are not suppose to clean with water and soap. This is a no, no. You can easily lift the lid on one end.. clean out that side, then lift the lid on the other end, and clean that side as well. Its not recommended or necessary to take out the popper to soak or wash out with soap and water. My experience is that cleaning is not as bad as some people make it out to be. Performance? Exrtemely quick. Once you turn the machine on and put the oil in, it is within 2 minutes that the oil is melted and hot enough for popping. Another 3 minutes or so, and you should have 1 cup of kernels popped and ready to eat. In an 8 ounce machine, 1 cup of kernels is more than enough for a family of 4. We have also had a few parties where the machine popped continuously for about 2 hours. Not a glitch, or a problem in producing a lot of popcorn. Just recently my son used it for a fall festival at school. He actually was making popcorn continuously for 3 hours. No problem. Now, keep in mind. If you are buying this machine to use mostly in a commercial setting where you are making tons of popcorn for a lot of people? you might want to go with a bigger kettle and holding bin. Could this machine handle it? Sure, but an 8 oz kettle is only going to accommodate 6-7 bags a batch. You would be popping non stop. However, is ideal for a larger type family? Excellent. Now, in the fairly short time owning the machine, we have used it more than the average family would. Not to mention a few events we brought the machine to for numerous people. It performed flawlessly. For a family setting, or home theater, I would have to say this machine is more than Ideal. THE CONS: Truly, as of today as I write this, there really are none. My goal is to update this review over time to see if any problems occur. However, some advice to keep in mind. THIS MACHINE... or ANY MACHINE is not going to make movie style type popcorn simply by putting in the oil and kernels. This solely depends on the INGREDIENTS you USE in the machine. The MAIN ingredients to use with this popper to achieve this is COCONUT OIL, and FLAVACOL seasoning. I do not buy the pre made packs. I find it way too expensive, and found buying a 9 pound jug of coconut oil (Snappy popping coconut oil $19.99) and a quart of (Flavacol seasoning $3.99 ) and 12 pound bag of Kernels $14.99. You are looking at about .25 cents a batch. Trial and error with your brand of kernels can yield different result. When buying bulk with kernels be sure to pour them in containers to keep them fresh longer. Personally, the best ratio I have found for this machine is 1/3 cup of coconut oil, 1 cup of kernels, and a slight smidgen short of a teaspoon of flavacol ( for 8 oz kettle). Of course this is dependent on your personal taste. I don't like my popcorn too salty. The directions for the Roosevelt would recommend using a slightly smaller portion of kernels to the mix. However, I have found no problems with using this amount as other users who have recommended the same measurements. Of course I cheated and was given access to a small storage room in the local AMC theatre and went out and bought the same ingredients and products. I figure if it taste good there,, it should taste the same at home.. And, yes.. it does. Now that I think about it, and before ending. I will say there is indeed one CON to this machine. If you order the machine without the cart (like I did), then decide to go ahead and purchase the cart... YOU CAN"T. They only sell the carts with the machine at the time of purchase You can not order a cart for this machine later on down the line. :( Bummer.

I saw this one on YouTube watched about 15 different videos and decided to buy it! The first and only time we use it, the popcorn tastes stale! I don't know if it was the brand new bag of kernels or the maker itself that made it take that was but ehhh! I give 4 stars because of that but everything else as far as the rotator and butter melter is fine! We melted our butter and just poured on top of popcorn when it was done
Can't beat the value

Bought this to replace our old Stir Crazy that was nearly 15 years old. It actually still worked but the cover was cracked and the base leaked a bit. So, even after researching a lot of other electric popper options, I decided this was the best choice for us for a few reasons. Cost: paid just over $30 total. Flavor: We like to pop our kernels in coconut oil, then skip adding butter - healthier! You won't miss the butter, and a little sprinkle of salt (or any flavoring!) sticks to the popcorn just fine for us. The rotating mechanism doesn't appear to be as durable as our old model, and isn't exactly flush against the bottom. The only issue this creates is having a popped kernel stuck now and again. It's the reason I didn't give it 5 stars. We use it at least twice a week and it'll be interesting to see if this one lasts 15 years.

West Bend 82306 Stir Crazy model is pretty good. This is our 2nd one in about 5 years (we do popcorn around x2-x3/week). For popping corn - it's pretty straightforward.PRO's:-easy to use-(pretty) easy to clean up-nice feature having the plastic lid to flip over to use as one of the bowl to serve/eat fromCON's:-the clear plastic lid is pretty flimsy. While it needs to have some flexibility so that it's pliable for use, IMO it should be a heavy gauge/thickness. Not sure how it will last over the long haul.I'll keep you posted though :)
A good corn popper
November 23, 2014
A good corn popper. However there are a couple of improvements that could be made. Half of the holes for the melted butter to run down through have raised rings around them. What logic is there in that? It makes it hard for the butter to go through the holes. The holes should be countersunk not raised. Also, when I used a half cup of popcorn the sweep arm could not push it around. It would stop and then reverse direction. The reversing might be a good idea for HEAVY loads, but for a half cup of kernels it is ridiculous. The best thing is it pops almost ALL of the kernels of popcorn without scorching any of them. I would have given it a five star rating if it wern't for the things mentioned above.
It's great!
December 4, 2012
It's neither good or bad! Does a good job of popping corn but not a great one! Requires a little more cleaning than a microwave popper but that's ok if you like cleaning. I like the fact that you can add all your ingredients, flavoring s,etc., at one time and let the machine mix it up. I have a microwave popper as well. It would be a toss up to decide between the two which is better. I like both and use both. Microwave in the bag is fluffier and more convenient. This is cheaper to use in the long tun. Won't know about durability for a year or so! Not a bad choice!12/05/2012After further use I'd give it a 4star rating at least. Sometimes trial and error is where you learn. I figured out that the product itself was functioning fine and that I was in error. After correcting my inequities the crazy popper works great! Oh, don't put butter and your other ingredients in the bottom with the oil and popcorn. The butter and ingredients will leave a black burnt film on your popcorn and crazy popper. And THAT makes clean up difficult!! Add that later as recommended! It really does pop like crazy. A lot of fun to watch!!!!
Scant few "Old Maids" but wimpy lid - 4.5 stars
May 24, 2012
This is the 2nd 6qt. Stir Crazy I have purchased/owned, having purchased the 2nd one based on the great performance of the 1st one purchased years ago. In between, we tried a hot air popper (The Warden wanted me to eat healthier. Pshaw! The junk that hot air popper turned out was only good for making "shipping" popcorn.)From there we moved on to nuked popcorn.Last school year, I volunteered to be the "Popcorn Dude" at my nephew's Christian Day school and make popcorn for the kids that wanted it each Friday. Someone had donated a used "Movie Theater" style popcorn maker and the idea of using it appealed to me. Appealed that is until the person who had made popcorn in it the year before had the fire dept. show up twice because the smoke from the burnt popcorn set off the fire alarm. The thought of the FD showing up was pretty intimidating. It became apparent to me why is was donated in short order. I tried it twice and wasted 2 cups of unpopped corn for every cup it made, trying to prevent the alarm from going off. Enough of that!I came home and went straight to Amazon.com, having remembered how well the Stir Crazy had worked in the past and figuring they would have it. They did.I purchased one from Amazon.com and had it in short order. I have used it for the entire school year, making 4 to 8 batches every Friday except for the Holidays. I use Orville's Buttery Oil and popcorn exclsively. Other brands leave substantially more "old maids". The real beauty of the Stir Crazy is the arm that continually keeps the kernels moving around so almost every one pops. It's Deja Vu all over again, well, almost. The Stir Crazy is now made in China instead of Wisconsin and the lid is now frail. Being careful with is is the order of the day. I'm ordering a replacement lid as the school year is over. But the unit made a huge pile of popcorn for the kids.Friendly Advice: If you put too much corn in it the lid comes up off the popper and starts spinning around. It's fun to watch, unless you're the one making the popcorn! When the Stir Crazy quits poppin' unplug it and using 2 pot holders turn it over and let is set for at least 30 seconds before removing the bottom. This will prevent any IED's from surprising you!

Popcorn review.
October 8, 2017
Its just OK, but what can you expect for under$150.00The biggest issue I have with it is if you put one cup of Jiffy pop in the pot and when it starts really cooking it will pop so fast all the popcorn will get stuck in the pot and not come out. I mean pot is top to bottom compact poped popcorn you need to turn the power off before you burn the popcorn and then pry the compacted popcorn out of the pot with a sturdy utensil. So I'v learned to just put 3/4 cup in there with about a up of coconut oil butter flavor.Seems to be ok and jiffy pop does make great popcorn. Also the little tin tip out at the bottom like to come out of its little grooves. So far havent had any Equipment failures. The next popcorn mechine I buy will be a better one tho.
Great price and unit but with some minor drawbacks
September 27, 2017
We love our machine but I cannot give it 5 stars. First of all the filling pot is so inconvenient when using the all in one package of corn/oil/salt. I burn my hand at least once a night. Secondly, you must disconnect the entire pot to clean up afterwards. Do this too many times and the frail drop downs that hold the pot in place will eventually wear down or break, sooner rather than later. I wish it was easier to put the popcorn and oil into the unit, but otherwise the unit is great and a great price.
Good popcorn machine, mine arrived damaged, but I fixed it and all is good in popcornville
September 26, 2017
This is a good popcorn machine, so far we have used it 6 times in 5 days. I would probably give it a 4 star rating but it does have a few flaws and another reason I'll get to later. When I use the popper, it does a great job until the corn gets to popping fast and hard. Then the flaps on the kettle stick wide open and a lot of the kernels jump out and do not get popped. If you try to hold the flaps open about half way with a long handled wood spoon to prevent this the popped corn ends up getting jammed in the kettle and wont' come out. The kettle is fairly easy to clean but the flaps or lids are very sharp. Gotta be very careful or you'll cut yourself. I WOULD NOT let my child clean this kettle because they'll get cut badly on the flaps. Clean up of the machine, glass, bottom, old maid drawer and so on takes a little time but cleans up good. Heat tray and light work very good. We popped corn at 4pm today and I just got the last of it at 11pm and it was still nice and warm. In the end it makes good popcorn and thats really the end goal here. We had ordered the portion packs by great northern but did not have them this weekend. We went to the store and bought coconut oil, and popcorn kernels. I put 1/3rd cup oil and premixed 1 table spoon flavacol into it good. When kettle was hot I dumped the oil mix and 1 cup kernels in the 8 oz kettle. It made pretty good popcorn but we noticed a little bit of a stale texture to the popcorn. Yesterday out 40 portion pack case arrived. It has Kernels, buttery oil and flavacol. It made much better popcorn than our personal mix from the weekend, also was yellow colored instead of white and tasted more buttery. So I'd definitely recommend the portion packs. Now, onto the 3 star rating. My machine arrived damaged. Apparently the box it is packaged in had been dropped pretty hard, hard enough to warp the whole machine, crush in the old maid tray holder/tracks and cause the inside of the top where the metal meets the glass to bent downward somewhat. I'm a pretty good jack of all trades so I just fixed all the problems myself. I had to remove the popcorn tray to get to the tracks for the old maid drawer, they were bent bad, looked like a car wreck. I was able to get it straightened out pretty good, at least good enough to work as it was designed. I tried bending the top back up, but the kettle holder seemed to be pretty even still so I just left well enough alone. That was going to be a risky fix cause I would have had to put the same type pressure on the bent parts that put it in this condition to start with and there are 3 glass panes involved, not worth the risk. It was mostly a cosmetic anyway as the machine functions just fine. The other thing was the right front leg does not sit on the table becasue of it being out of square. I thought about buying a gold medal or paragon machine for $500+ cause they are great commercial machines, but in the end we are just popping corn for our family and at $160 I believe this machine will serve us well. If you can get one to your door with no damage to it, I highly recommend this machine. If it does come slightly damaged and you are a handy man like me, no problem, just fix it. If you have to call everyone to fix things for you, make sure you have a way to return this machine and get another one. I've read several reviews where people have complained about receiving a damaged machine. So there is a chance you will get one with a little damage like I did. It pops popcorn very well, I'll leave it up to you, your call.
Stale Popcorn
July 13, 2017
The machine looks great. I guess they left the operating manual out or it doesn't come with one. There are instructions on the glass which is very handy because it is there all the time. My problem is that we have made popcorn in it at least 6 times and used 3 different brands of popcorn kernels and the popcorn always has a slight stale taste and feel to it. If anyone has a solution to this problem please advise. Spending a lot of money on kernels and not getting to eat good popcorn. If this problem is solved I will love the unit.
A bit disappointed, mostly okay tho. Lots of fun when it works right.
March 9, 2017
A little disappointed that the stirring mechanism in the pot gets hung up on popcorn kernels. It causes scorching and one cannot get in there and clean it out until it cools down.
Just OK at popping, but nicely built
February 25, 2016
Bought this used so was expecting a little damage, but there was more damage than the description provided. Also, it took a week to receive because they must have oversold. The product itself feels sturdy and substantial and it looks cool. I was surprised that everything is metal and glass with no plastic. However I seem to get a lot of unpopped kernals, but I might be doing something wrong. Instructions aren't the best. Also, placement of the kettle makes it a little difficult to dump everything in. For what I paid for this, I am mostly happy but I do not think I would buy this at full price just for home use. I have been using the tri-pack which is a nice concept. Just not sure of the logic of putting the oil, which goes in first, in the middle of the packaging without any kind of cut out so you don't have to worry about everything else falling in.

Typical of all such generics, the beefy 1,500 Watts is hog-tied by a hypochondriacal thermo-safety cut-off switch. 1st batch is a banger, but heating element cuts off halfway through during subsequent runs. Needs a L O N G rest between batches to reset switch; a party-ender. Installing a jumper wire over the thermo-switch did the trick but risks the China-Syndrome. Moved on to West-Bend's professional Air Popper. No extra calories and near 100% popping success during 1 hour non-stop production.
which I liked and it worked well
October 31, 2016
It pops corn well. I had an older Stir-Crazy (10 years old), which I liked and it worked well. They made some changes to the newer model clear-top-bowl/lid.The lid (clear dome) fitment to the base isn't as good as my old Stir-Crazy. They changed the design of the lid, so that the lid lip doesn't sit down inside the base well, causing the lid to slide off more easily. So the lid tends to fall off more easily when you are carrying the popper, causing the lid to fall on the floor and break more easily. If there was a similar popper that had a better fitting top (lid) then I would buy it instead, however if you aren't concerned the top sliding off and breaking, then this will work fine for you.
Stir Crazy or What?
November 13, 2015
I've used this twice since receiving it and can only say that it works fairly well. I read several reviews that helped me. One reviewer said they waited a couple of minutes and put a couple of kernels in to test whether it was hot enough to start popping. Second suggestions was not to use too much oil and that works also. I am using a gourmet popcorn and believe I will try a less expensive brand next time. The corn just doesn't seem to be light and airy so it is not crunchy. Also, the actual supplier who shipped it to me inserted an invoice that listed a less cost amount than Amazon charged me. When I contacted customer service I was told they would not give me a credit for the amount.
Bought this model in 2006. Replaced with the Kettle Krazy in 2011
August 8, 2013
I bought a Stir Crazy in 2006. It was a solid product, we liked it. We probably used it a couple of times a week (my wife's a big popcorn fan). Worked fine for five years. No teflon flaking. OK, yea, the thin 'stir' arms got bent up and started scraping off a narrow groove of non-stick coating, and the bent arms didn't do as good a job of stirring around the kernels. But in general it worked. What it did have an issue with, was that the plastic dome lid began to develop cracks, until finally after five years an entire handle broke off in 2011.At that point, I knew we were buying another, but I decided to upgrade to the West Bend 82386 Kettle Krazy Popcorn Popper and Nut Roaster. If you like the Stir Krazy, you'll like the Kettle Krazy even better:-Heavier 'cast' arms - no bending into contact with the non-stick bed here. And you don't have to worry about them getting bent out of alignment at all.-Ok, it's a bit 'multi-function', you can also roast nuts in it - though I think you can do that in the Stir Krazy as well. :P-Plastic dome strength? Well, it seems to be about the same as the cheaper model. BUT, what I did discover in the interrum, when cracks started appearing again in the Kettle Krazy, was that West Bend has replacement parts available from their web site! $13 and a week later, and I had a replacement dome for my fully-functional Stir Krazy. So on balance, no one else really does this 'stirred' niche as well. So a Kettle Krazy and a plan to replace the domes as needed may just be a solid option. :)
A horrible redesign.
June 14, 2013
I've used Stir Crazys since the '80s and bought this to replace a 15 year old model my cat decided to destroy. The 1st thing I noticed was that the rounded feet and bowl handles made this model more difficult to flip than my previous model. Not a huge deal, but definitely an inconvenience. Second, none of the parts are dishwasher safe. I put the bowl from my previous model in the dishwasher without hesitation. Come on guys, it's a big plastic bowl...what's the problem? The final straw is that despite using the same oil and popcorn only 1/10th to 1/2 of the kernels are popping. I'm assuming this item is defective and am returning it. When this item works as intended it's a 4-5 star product. However, even if I happened to get a defective item and the replacement works perfectly the design decisions of this version do not warrant more than 3 stars.UPDATE: After using about a third more oil than usual and bending the stir rod to correct a design/manufacturing defect (ie kernels were piling up and not heating correctly) I finally got a decent batch with nearly all kernels popping.UPDATE 2: I've run the bowl and lid through the dishwasher twice with no ill effects. If they can take hot oil they can deal with some hot water.
Older Machines Were Great But Now...
October 12, 2010
We have had several Stir Crazy popcorn poppers over the last 20+ years. Furthermore, we use it a lot, maybe 3+ times/week, so we wear them out. While improvements have been made, new deficiencies have been added.Cons: This new machine will not last as long as previous poppers it seems. The motor is installed at a slight angle causing two problems: 1) the stir rod grinds into the base plate on one side at each rotation; 2) the stir rod traps kernels when it is on the high side making a terrible noise on each pass. All this binding has to take a toll on the motor life.Pluses:1) This unit heats up faster and pops faster than any of our 3-4 previous machines.2) The clear cover is sturdier and should outlast the base it would seem. The old cover/bowl, would crack at multiple places along the edge and it would seriously crack around the handles, so we were always looking for bowls at garage sales. On this unit the edge has been beefed up and the handles have been re-enforced.3) The cooking surface has been modified to better contain cooking oil. In the past, oil (even using the prescribed quantity) would seep down into the base causing two problems: a) oil residue was left wherever it was stored b) eventually the base would smoke during use and even catch fire if more than one batch was made.

Design flaw in the 2 lids
September 30, 2017
The machine is great. The issue is, 25% of the corn goes unpopped and ends up in the tray. The design of the flapper lids is wrong, they are to light. When Corn Pops, 6-8 unpopped kernels fly out of the kettle with each single pop. The fix, add weight to both lids so only the force of popped corn pushes up the lids, not mearly a single pop lifting the lid shooting out one popped piece and a bunch of unpopped kernels. I’m going to drill a hole in each lid and install one bolt and one nut, stainless steel, and this will provide the weight needed to cut down on inefficiency, and this will cut down on oil splatter all over the inside windows. Over all the machine rocks, solid construction, beefy, it just has this one design flaw that really stinks, but is an easy fix.
Had high hopes
June 3, 2017
I was really excited about this item for my office. It was a good price and was a fast ship. It's smaller then I thought but ieas like, ok no big deal. It's hard to get your hand inside to push out the oil from the popcorn+oil packs we have. When we did our first batch, the spinning arm inside the pot that makes the popcorn move, broke and all the popcorn burned. Super disappointed. My maintenance person threw my box out or I would return it.. maybe you will have better luck.
Kettle defective I think
August 18, 2016
The piece that causes the blade to go around pops up off the blade and kennels get stuck and then it dosent rotate and the kennels burn. I think the kettle is defective.
Wanted to love it, but...
December 21, 2015
Wanted to love this machine and was excited to get it. I thought I was purchasing new, but it looked like the box had been opened previously and the inside boxes had holes in them and some holes were taped over on the outer box as well as some of the inner boxes. Maybe I received a return. I know I paid for brand new. I am a little upset as the doors are not level. One sits higher than the other and the only way I see to resolve this is to have new holes drilled. The old maid drawer is hard to insert and remove, the top of the unit looks like it has a slight dent in it. I would be okay with the dent if the doors were level and I didn't have to look at lopsided doors. This product is quite heavy and has a lot of packaging and it would take a miracle to get it all back in the box and send it back. Not sure if I will send it back or not but I am not a happy camper like most reviewers.
rusting ruins the experience....
September 12, 2015
This popcorn make started out great! Unfortunately after about 60 bags of popcorn using the Great northern all in one packs, the inside top of the unit started rusting. It looks like a sheet of galvanized metal....Now every time I take it out of the pantry to use, I spend 10 minutes cleaning the rust off all of the inside so that my family doesn't eat iron granules....
Fair Unit
December 9, 2014
Sheet metal is not high quality. Un-popped kernel tray does not fit correctly into the unit. Kettle is difficult to remove and replace for cleaning. I would also add the kettle top is too light (Back to cheap sheet metal) when corn is popping to many un-popped kernels fall out. I read this is a review before I purchased and figured I could live with it. But, A lot come out.

Not as good as past Stir Crazy Popper
April 5, 2017
This is the third Stir Crazy electric popcorn popper that I purchased in the past 37 years. Making popcorn a few times every month, it's a great investment in this small appliance. Additionally the top becomes a bowl to serve the popcorn. Nice design. The last lid started to crack with years of use, so it was time to purchase a new one. The new one I just purchased is not the same quality as the past two. The black lid on the top does not fit correctly & falls off. As mentioned above, the lid becomes a bowl, but with the black top falling off salt & kernels can fall through making a mess. Additionally, the stir blade does not fit properly and kernels get jammed underneath and a few times caused the blade to stop turning. Having to free the kernels when the oil is hot is dangerous & can cause finger burns. I have tried to slightly bend the blade to fit better, but it still is up to high & jams. I was thinking of returning it to try another to see if this is just a bad one or if they now make them with different spects. We do eat lots of popcorn & this is a great way to make and eat popcorn
Not the pop corn popper it was
July 7, 2016
This was my "go-to" popcorn popper when I use a little oil. I've used the same popper for years and recently had to replace my third one. The company apparently made an adjustment with the automatic spinner and now the popcorn gets stuck under the spinner and causes burns. I returned it. Back to airpopping, I guess. Very disappointed
I wish the quality was better.
June 22, 2016
I really want to love this popcorn maker but it keeps letting me down. The first one I got the middle rod didn't spin (even if i loosened the middle screw. So I ordered a replacement. The replacement the middle arm worked fine but one of the handles broke on the first use.... I will say it makes a good batch of popcorn but I have to make two batches it seems like the first batch sucks and the second batch is much better. Or just wait a long time before I add the oil and popcorn.
All Change Is Not Positive
March 23, 2016
West Bend sold a perfectly great Stir Crazy for a long time, but this new design falls far short of great. There is an issue with the stirring rod - the point of attachment is wobbly, so one side can be skimming the heated surface while the other side has a large enough clearance to let some of the kernels get caught under it, stalling and reversing the motor. And there is apparently no seal between the heating surface and the black plastic case - when you wash it out, water gets down in the motor compartment. We found that we have to put it up on its side and allow drainage. Hey, West Bend, are you listening? Go back to the old design!
Not as good as I hoped.
April 10, 2014
I had high hopes for this popper. I read other reviews about the stirring bar getting jammed so I bent mine up just a hair and didn't have too many issues with that. It doesn't pop all (or enough) of the kernels before starting to overcook the ones already popped. So you end up with a bunch of unpopped kernels in your bowl.Another issue I had with it is melting the butter. The corn is fully popped before the butter begins to melt. Some suggested putting the butter in the top and running it before putting the kernels in, but that is such a messy way because you have to remove the lid holding the melted butter in order to add the kernels. I just melted my butter in the microwave then poured it in the drip cup area after the kernels started to pop. It's such a mess to clean up too. I rarely use it because of all these issues. I would not recommend it to a friend.
Makes delicious popcorn, but poorly made; you'll need a new one in a few months
November 27, 2013
I have a love hate relationship with this popcorn popper. I have yet to find one that makes better-tasting popcorn, but in the last few years, the quality of this product has taken a severe nose dive. We had our first stir crazy for at least a decade, our most recent popper lasted just over a month, then died the same way as the last one: the plastic shattered when it fell on the floor. Granted, I don't really expect appliances to survive a nosedive off the counter, but I do expect that the bowl won't crack after two months of normal use (though it does). The teflon bottom breaks part easily, probably because the stir arm is improperly rubbing against it. After a few months of use, it will occasionally pop less than half your popcorn (heating problem?). Also, this makes the most horrific shrieky noise while it stirs, even when it's brand new. I'm searching for a comparable alternative, but so far I've got nothing. :(

Left us in a bind!
June 26, 2017
We've had this product for 6 months, and have used 3 times. We noticed the kettle was sticking the first use, and it progressed to get worse each time. The kettle won't release to dump, and the popcorn burns in the meantime. It dumps when empty, but when in use it doesn't. We bought 2 of them, and they are both doing this. There is also a lot of kernels left and wasted that don't pop, and we use the all-in-one popcorn kits for 8oz. kettles. We were hosting a free Movie Night in our community park, and one was completely worthless. We pushed through with the other, but it was frustrating. Now I have the frustration of having to return 2 machines. I don't recommend this product.
I loved it.Now I do not love it.
May 27, 2017
We used this for a movie night on the farm. The popcorn was great--no burning and a great popcorn smell throughout! Easy to assemble and very easy to use. We popped an entire box of popcorn. Clean up was not very difficult. I used canned air to get all the debris from small areas. good value. I purchased one that had been repackaged. The box was not in great shape but the unit was perfect. **Updated review. after using this about 3 times, one of the glass doors fell off and the metal unit that pops the corn does not open and close properly. I did love it but not now and I am having difficulty contacting the manufactor
Not worth it
May 26, 2017
We do backyard movie nights all summer long so I bought this to add to the fun. The first one arrived but was bent on the bottom so I made an exchange. Amazon was great to work with. The replacement arrived today just in time for our first movie night if the season. On The 3rd batch, the stir stick stopped stirring and the popcorn was jam packed into the kettle causing what was on the bottom to burn. I had to use a wooden spoon to get the popped corn out of the kettle...many wasted kernels too. I had high hopes that have been dashed. I made sure I followed the directions. So, this machine will be going back. I will now look at buying one similar to what I use at PTA events, shame because it is more than double the price of this one but I have been using that one for 6 years with out a single issue.
Arrived in good shape lasted 15 min in operation
August 6, 2016
This is a nice looking unit however I gave it one star because it made it halfway (about 15 min) thru the first batch of popcorn and motor mechanism turning the kettle stirrer froze and started making loud noise the and the popcorn in the kettle burned into a charred mess. It was tough to get out of the box and does require some assembly. Amazon is sending a replacement
It looked nice on my bar from afar
December 5, 2015
Pros: It looked nice on my bar from afar. Really big size.Cons: 1st machine ordered: Looked used, looked water stained inside top of machine (like water spots everywhere), scratched several places outside of machine, kettle scratched, doors to machine did not line up, bottom inside (where popcorn lands) looked water stained, the outside of steel looked faded or worn out. 2nd Machine: Same as above but also dented and doors looked more off than first machine (not lined up properly) Also found out may rust later on so maybe mine was already rusting. I did try to clean it, but stains remained.Really Disappointed. I bought this machine after I thought I did a thorough review. I went online and looked at videos, different pricing and other people's reviews. So I thought I did my job right. Well, I didn't. When I received the product it looked like it had been used! The inside top of machine was water stained, the outside of machine was scratched and dirty looking, the "stainless steel" looked faded, the kettle was scratched and the inside bottom had water stains. I thought it was a mistake so I replaced it. This is the only good thing: I ordered from Amazon Prime so they were really easy to deal with! Well, the second one that came in was worse! It had all the scratches, water stains, but this one was also dented on the outside! So I contacted the company and asked if all their products were like this and they said no, that I must had gotten one that had an issue. However, I explained that I had TWO that came the same way. They were very fast and nice with their response, but not too helpful since all they told me was that I would have to deal with Amazon because they were the ones who sold it to me. So I returned the product. After reading more reviews, I found out that A LOT of people complained that after a couple of months the top rusted! Not just on amazon but other forums too. I guess mine was probably already starting to rust. Who wants rust in their pop corn? So I will save my money and buy a Gold Medal or Paragon. If your investing in a popcorn machine this big, that means you really use it. So why not spend the extra money and invest in one you won't need to replace because it's cheaply made? Save yourself the trouble. This is the one I bought Great Northern Popcorn 6010 Roosevelt Top Antique Style Popcorn Popper Machine, 8-Ounce
Buy something else... broke the first time
May 28, 2015
Absolute peice of junk. I purchased this for a company party (a few weeks in advance so that we'd have it on time) and the first time we used it was the day of the company event. Shame on me for not immediately taking it out of the box when it was recieved, however I worked under the assumption that based on the reviews this would work fine and it wasn't garbage (I actually bought 3 machines). The first time it was used a gear stripped out and the thing wouldn't work. Unfortunately by the time our week long event was over the return date had passed and now I'm stuck with a worthless 160.00 not popcorn making box in my garage. The other 2 worked marginally fine. I'll never purchase this brand again. Total garbage and there's no way to contact them for replacement parts.

December 22, 2016
I have been a user of this popper model for 20 years. My last machine lasted 4 years of use nearly every day. Literally we buy popcorn in 50lb bags. Unfortunately, we are returning our replacement because the thermostat control is intermittent and causes inadequate results. I am hopeful the replacement of the replacement will result in my popcorn diet to resume. Until then back to the stove pot method, it's perfected. The popcorn gournmet
JUNK plain and simple.
July 31, 2016
I had this machine for 10 years and loved it...then it broke. So I ordered a new one from Amazon and when I tried it the popcorn would get caught under the metal turner because it was raised too high (much higher than my old model). I thought it was defective and returned it to Amazon for another one. Well the same thing. I called West Bend and inquired and they said they had raised this bar because it was scraping off the teflon on the bottom (never had that problem with my old one). Continued to try this and it would pop only 1/4 of the kernels!! So I thought it might be the off-brand popcorn and purchased Orville Redenbacher's popcorn. Same thing.......It would pop only 1/4 of the kernels no matter how long I left it plugged in. If I could give this item zero stars I would.... this popcorn popper is a piece of junk!!!!!!!!!!! I'm so grateful that Amazon is giving me a refund and I do hope nobody else need go through this stress. Thank you Amazon. Go back to the drawing board West Bend!!
Unit died after using it twice.
May 1, 2016
The first 2 batches of popcorn were great. It was a little hard for me to flip over the unit, but I have problems with my grip. A few weeks later I went to make a batch and barely a handful popped. It was the end of the bag so I opened a new bag of popcorn and the same thing happened like it didn't heat up enough. Too late to send it back. Ended up getting an air popper which has worked great.
Knowing how good this popper is I figured some old kernels
January 16, 2016
I've been a long time user of this popper. After many years I needed to replace it. The one I received only popped maybe a quarter of the kernels. Knowing how good this popper is I figured some old kernels. Bought fresh kernels and it wasn't any better. Contacted the manufacturer and did everything they told me and it still didn't work any better. Finally they replaced it under warranty. The new one worked identically to the old one. Very disappointed. I returned it for a refund. I came across a similar popper from Presto, model 05200 at Walmart for $30. I noticed right off the quality of this popper was noticeably better than the Stir Crazy. The lid/bowl is thicker so it's not so flimsy when washing it. Also the plastic nut holding the metal stir rod has a metal threaded insert instead of the plastic threads in the Stir Crazy. However, the best part is it popped a half a cup of kernels leaving seven unpopped kernels. Yay! I can enjoy popcorn again.

July 18, 2015
The first time I used the popper it made weird squeeking noises, but popped the corn just fine. In the subsequent uses (I have only used it about 6 times, have not yet used all of the little bag of popcorn which was bought with it) the stir-arm did not sit quite like it should, it was at an angle instead of sitting level. Used the popper last night and the arm stopped turning at all. Looked at the machine closely after taking the arm off as if to clean the machine, and the plastic screw part on which the metal stir-arm sits has MELTED. Wish now I had not tossed the box it came in. Will be writing to West Bend and see if they will honor their warranty. My old Stir Crazy was wonderful and lasted for years. This machine was a piece of poop.
Complete junk
January 14, 2014
The first time I used this product it popped almost 75% of the corn. That was the best it ever performed.I tried using it five more times over the next week and the results were abysmal, yielding about 50% of thecorn used. That yield is simply unacceptable. Also unacceptable is a manufacturing design that avoids having an on/offswitch on the product. That absence should have been a red flag! Please don't waste your money. We've gone back to making popcorn in a pot on the stove and we'rehappy with the results.
