Best hammer drill
December 28, 2016
This power tool is a beast. It is big but feels very comfortable. I haven't had to use it too much but it worked well for driving several ground rods into hard and dry ground. I don't think there is a comparable cordless alternative. Great product.
What I like most is that it is light weight
February 16, 2016
This tool is everything that it says it is. What I like most is that it is light weight, which makes working on heights easy. Also the bits are simple to change. I highly recommend this tool for the "do it yourself " individual as well as a professional tradesman or contractor.
And its the best tool I have for the price I paid
October 12, 2015
I've only used my new Dewalt hammer drill once. But compared to the hilti hammer drills I've used for the past 23 years, it has more than met my expectations. And its the best tool I have for the price I paid. Feels like I could use it all day. Nice clean look, and rugged feel. The case is the same sturdy built case Im accustomed to with all me Dewalt tools.
Very good for the heavy duty user

One got to have to right tools for the job; and this is the one. Works as described and could not find a lower price anywhere else. Amazons customer service is terrific and this is my store for now.
A great hammer drill for big jobs

A great hammer drill for big jobs. We bought 6 of them along with 6 smaller ones. Have bought them in the past and am very pleased with the product.

Nice tool
June 26, 2017
This thing is working great for my basement project. I've been using it to break up solid concrete to make the floor level and smooth enough to put hardibacker on it. The builders of my house never intended to finish the basement, so they let piles of concrete slop over the edges of the forms.

No problems so far. I'll use it later in the project for a bunch of 5/8" anchors. I have no doubts that this will do the job.
I find it comfortable to hold
June 9, 2017
I've used this for about 3 months now having drilled about 50 1/2" holes. I wore out my first bit and on my 2nd now. I have had no problems. I find it comfortable to hold, and not too heavy. The trigger action allows me to start very slowly as I'm carefully locating the start of the hole, and then speeding up. I have only used it on rotohammer mode (not demohammer) so far. I have used many other rotohammers in the past and I say this is a good tool.
Highly Recommend! Don't forget BIT GREASE!
November 28, 2016
With SDS Bits, my bathroom slab was no match for this baby! Just make sure to use Makita Bit Grease before installing bit into drill. This will eliminate premature chuck wear.
... 3/8"holes in large river rocks and it does a amazing job, very powerfull couldn't be happier
March 18, 2016
I purchased this to drill 3/8"holes in large river rocks and it does a amazing job, very powerfull couldn't be happier. I have never owned something this powerful and it makes the job so much easier. Highly recommend this
I own at least 12 pieces of Makita power tools and they haven't disappointed me yet.
rock-solid tool
February 14, 2012
Another great tool made by a great company. I've never bought a Makita tool I didn't like. This SDS drill will make your old keyed-chuck hammer drill seem like stone-age technology.

The diameter ratings for these drills are not ever very accurate. They are ratings for suggested maximum diameter bit that you would want to use all-day long. If you had to grab a 2" coring bit and make a few holes, though, I've no doubt this "one-inch" drill will handle it fine.

One suggestion, if you buy the keyed chuck with SDS shank so that you can use keep using your old round-shanked masonry bits, buy a high-quality one. The SDS action is really powerful. I bought the cheapest chuck Amazon sells and it literaly blew up the first time i used it to drill a hole with a 1/8" bit. Then I bought the bosch chuck and it works great.

Works very well. I am in construction and it has performed well. I would buy this same unit again as well.
Good Hammer Drill, but doesn't come with depth rod
October 12, 2013
This is a very good drill for the price, but it does not come with a depth rod as stated in the description. I conctacted DeWalt, but they apparently don't make a depth rod for this model. I fabricated my own bracket and depth rod, but if you don't feel like doing that, and you need a depth rod, pick a different model.

Great tool i would recommend it to a friend.

Overall it work great, but one falt i find is that the reverse is like very slow. I dont know if its how it was design to be, but it take forever to back out.
Good quality and drills concrete with ease

Nice but underpowered for ground rod
June 20, 2015
Used this one time for electrical ground rod installation. Ground was admitly hard, but this didn't seem to have the impact energy needed. Might work just fine in soft soils. Had to return it. Used the Dewalt sds max ground rod driver adapter which seemed fine.
Ok but a bit surprised
November 10, 2011
This was the first drill I've used that did not go in reverse and that had no variable speed. Given the expense, I assumed it had these features any cheap drill has.

makita HR2475 Rotary hammer drill.
November 28, 2012
The drill is comfortable to use and takes universal bits. I think the drill is too light to be a real tool. It is only suitable for light jobs and those take long.

Defective item (new or a return?)
May 18, 2015
The one I received is defective. The drill head does not work and you cannot insert a drill bit securely. It will not grasp the the drill nor allow it to be tightened. All reviews I have read on this product are good. It was sold as new but there are indications that it was a return. Unfortunately, I have not be able to be work on the project that required it. All of my home improvements (outside) have been delayed over a month due to bad weather (rain almost every day), so I can not return it to Amazon.

User Overview
  • Awesome suction

I owned both vacuums. The Makita is lighter, easier to use, the battery does not keep popping out like in the Dyson (I hated having to keep hitting the battery and restart the vacuum) and the suction is comparable. I will have to buy the carpet nozzle to figure out the pet hair issue (the floor nozzle does not do a good job with pet hair). Dyson picks up the pet hair very well.
