Unbelievable - Simple, Yet Efficient
October 1, 2016
I wanted homemade soy yogurt from homemade soymilk. I soak my beans for 24 hours, then add the beans to my SoyaPower and let it work it's magic. If I am in the mood for super thick and creamy milk/yogurt - I pour the milk from the SoyaPower to my Vitamix in two batches and blend the heck out of it, then strain.I waited for years to buy this machine because I didn't believe it could be so simple. Clean up is a cinch. I use cellophane wrap to protect the electrical connections and a quick hot soapy wash ... done.
Must have if you love fresh soy milk or almond milk!
August 8, 2016
My boyfriend and I love fresh, hot soy milk. We finally decided to get a soy milk maker after trying out the one my parents had. This was the most similar to the one they had, but was plastic on the outside (theirs was stainless steel and would get extremely hot). This one gets warm to the touch but would never burn you, which is perfect if you're clumsy like me!This comes with a measuring cup, pitcher, strainer, and information booklet. The booklet provides information on how to use the soy milk maker as well as a recipe list for the number of cups for soy milk, almond milk, or grains. We have only used it for soy milk, almond milk, and a soy milk + black sesame blend. We soak soybeans or almonds the night before and they are ready to go in the morning. Using the "Soaked beans" cycle, it takes about 25 minutes before you have a fresh glass of soy/almond milk!Straining is fairly simple, but I found that you need to pour in batches. I use a spatula to press the liquid through the strainer and speed up the process. I would recommend straining more than once if you like your milk smoother, as it is slightly grainy if you only strain once.I like to dissolve some rock sugar in the soy milk and then that's it! It makes enough for two coffee cups full and then some.
So easy to use and the milk is yummy!
May 7, 2016
I just made my very first batch of soy milk with the soy beans that were included in the package. I soaked the beans overnight in the refrigerator. The milk tasted the delicious, so that tells me that the beans are good, definitely not an old batch. I followed the directions in the booklet, poured in the water, then the soy beans, put on the top securely, plugged it, chose "Soaked Beans", pressed Start, and twenty or so minutes later the milk was done. When I took off the top it was so pleasant to get the aroma of nice fresh warm milk. It was frothy and creamy and the flavor was very nice. I added a splash of vanilla and some brown sugar and that made it just right. I let the milk cool a little, then poured it through the strainer and into the plastic jug (both included). I didn't keep the ocara this time but next time I'm going to use it in some recipe, maybe pancakes. The ocara was delicious too, sort of like an oatmeal. The fine mesh strainer worked really well with this milk. I also ordered the milk bag, but it wasn't necessary this time. Maybe with other nuts/grains.I didn't even know that these machines existed until last month. I was searching and reading reviews for a masticating juicer that could handle nuts. I'm so glad that I didn't buy one of those, as this machine is just so perfect for my needs, it's exactly what I wanted. The ease of the whole process is great. I love that the inside and the grinding apparatus are made of stainless steel. So easy to clean! After pouring off all the milk, I just rinsed with clean water, dried it well and put it away. I have a very tiny kitchen, and the size is right, like a big thermos.
Love this Machine
October 19, 2015
I have the larger model in G3. I wanted a smaller model since I'm the only one drinking alternative 'milks'. I love Laura soybeans and have used them exclusively. I use 1 heaping Soyapower measuring cup Laura Soybeans and soak in boiling water overnight (boil water and pour over beans). In the morning I agitate the beans to get the skins off them. Squeeze and rub the soybeans to get the skins to rise to the water surface and scoop them off. Add more water and keep getting off as much of the skins as you can; it will take a couple of minutes but makes all the difference to get the 'beany' taste out of your finished 'milk'. Then add your water and the soaked soybeans into the cooking pitcher and turn the machine to 'soaked beans' and start. In just over 20 minutes your hot, soymilk is done. I strain it into the plastic pitcher that came with the unit, along with the strainer, and add about 1/8th teaspoon sea salt and 1 teaspoon raw sugar to the finished 'milk' and stir. I then pour it into this bottle: Libbey Glass Milk Bottle with Lid - 33.5 oz You'll get about 36 ounces of finished soymilk. It tastes fresher than store-bought, thickened, chemical-added, brand-name soymilk. Not as thick, not as 'flavored'. I like it better. I've been drinking homemade soymilk for years and love it hot; it's also delicious cold. You can add vanilla, chocolate or other flavored syrups if you want - I prefer plain. So versatile to use in cooking or drinking. It sure beats standing over the stove for 20-plus minutes stirring a pot of ground soybeans in water to make soymilk. Love this machine for the ease. Be sure to clean it right away after making your milks; it's very hard to get dried on soybean residue off without lots of soaking and scrubbing. It cleans up easily if you do it right away.
It works for me
May 13, 2015
This thing is awesome. I got it to make my own cashew milk and almond milk. It worked right out of the box with minimal prep work and instruction manual reading. Essentially, what you're getting is a high-speed blade, similar to a commercial ice cream milkshake maker, like you might see at a Baskin Robbins, that also has a heating element inside it for making soup. You can chuck in anything you want and some water to make cold beverages, soups, or porrige-like concoctions. That blade pulverizes whatever you add into powder. The nut milk I make is just as good as store-bought and I pay a fraction of store prices for it.Dump the accessories, if you want. They work, but they're cheap plastic and you don't really need them. The only things you really need, in my opinion, are a measuring cup and maybe a strainer for the ground nut meat. It's just not easy to strain out that fine material, so I usually don't. If I want to strain it, I sometimes use a linen tea filter, which is like a sock on a handle you can pour the milk through to catch the powdered nut meat. I experimented with drying the nut meat into powder for cooking, but I'm too lazy to put a lot of effort into that. I also don't bother soaking the nuts when I make nutmilk; I just mix the ingredients and turn it on. Cleaning the unit is easy-it's stainless steel. The design is simple and it generally doesn't make much of a mess. I've over-filled it past the line marked inside it and only had a spill when I jolted it on purpose to see what would happen. The only minor issue, in my opinion, is the top and the electric connection in the handle prevent you from just pouring water all over the unit in the sink, but it's a minor thing and does not prevent me from cleaning the unit. I hold my thumb over the electrical connection on the handle when I wash it out. The connection also has a flexible rubber cover over it that sort of seals around the connection when you put the top on, so it's at least a little bit water repellent. My cleaning regimen usually involves filling it with hot water and soap, turning on the nut milk function, and letting it spin the soap and water into thick foam. Then, I scrub, rinse, and let it dry.If you don't like paying 4+ dollars a container for soy milk, nut milk, coconut milk, etc, then consider this machine. The price is reasonable and for the price of one container of nut milk, you can get the ingredients to make several containers of your own to your personal taste. You can't lose.
Easy, quick, yummy soy milk!
June 24, 2014
I have been using this every 2-3 days for the past month, and so far I love it! I have so far only used it to make soy milk, and it does an excellent job at this. I bought 20 pounds of the Laura soybeans direct from the farm for about $2/lb, and my cost per liter comes out to about $0.50 or $0.60 if I was doing my sleepy math correctly. I thought remembering to soak the soybeans would be a pain in the butt, but it's not at all - when I use up the last of the soy milk, or when I notice it is low, I measure out a rounded cup (the one that came with the machine, which I think is about 3/4 cup), rinse briefly, pour the soybeans in a bowl, cover with water, and 8-10 hours later they are ready to make soy milk; I've even let them go as long as 12 or 13 hours, and the soy milk tasted the same to me. I do recommend washing everything as you go - the leftover bean residue is easy to get off while it is still wet, and a little more difficult if allowed to dry on the machine. I wash the top part as soon as I take it off the machine, and wash the pot as soon as I have poured all of the soy milk into the strainer. Easy peasy :)The first batch I made did not taste good at all, even though I went through the preliminary wash step as instructed in the manual. I'm not sure if it was because of the machine, or if the beans that came with the machine were old; I'll never know, because the next batch I made with the fresh Laura soybeans was delicious. To make a liter of soy milk I use a rounded cup (the one that came with the machine) of dried soy beans, soak them for 8-12 hours, put them in the machine and then fill the machine to the second water mark and start the machine; after straining off the bean pulp (okara) I add 1/4 cup sugar, 1 tsp vanilla, and 1/4 tsp salt, and mix well. It is slightly sweet this way; I could probably get away with half the sugar, but I like it this way over my cereal in the morning :)In case you are wondering what to do with the okara, it makes great crackers! I will try to remember to come back and provide instructions, but my 2 year old is in need of attention, so I will have to stop typing.I hope you found this helpfulEDIT: 7-24-2014: I just timed the whole process... A minute or so to measure the soybeans, rinse them, and cover them with water. After that, you are just letting them sit for 8-12 hours. Once I pull out the machine, it takes 10 minutes from start to finish, including washing the soy milk maker. So, less than 15 minutes hands on (if you wash as you go), but you have to plan ahead for the soaking time.I still have to work out the measurements for the okara crackers, so that update will be coming in the near future I hope.

Better than an earlier version in some ways
November 7, 2016
I bought this model to replace an earlier model that just quit working one day after several years of use. This model is much easier to clean, which is wonderful. However, they really need to improve the design: evertyime I pour the finished soy milk from the maker into a jar or pitcher, a large amount of liquid dribbles all over the counter. Please improve the pouring spout! I can't report on durability because I haven't had it that long.

It does the job.

You can make soy milk with unsoaked beans if you put hot water (temperature 203F) directly in the jug. Make sure you use the "unsoaked bean" mode. The okara (soy residue) is a challenge to cook with. I personally use it with eggs and prawns. There is a okara fritter recipe as well - http://www.theaimlesscook.com/okara-fritters-the-aimless-cook-at-downtownfood. It is easy to clean but you have to clean the jug before the bean residue dries up.
I put the top part on the plate with perfect size so that the blades wouldn't touch anything
April 22, 2014
so far I've tried soy milk and grain, and it worked well. The only problem I had is it's kind of difficult to handle the top with one hand and pour the milk out with the other hand. So I have to find a plate and lie the top part on it, and then pour out the milk and wash the machine. Because I'm not sure if letting the blades lie on the counter would hurt them, I put the top part on the plate with perfect size so that the blades wouldn't touch anything.

Less sauce
February 1, 2015
Bought to replace an old nonfunctional one, soyapower plus. Use the same amount of soybean, it generates 30% less of sauce. Otherwise, it works well.

it makes soy milk all right. it beeps annoyingly and loudly when it ends, then you must unplug the power cord to stop it.
It works. Had a hard time getting it to ...
January 3, 2015
It works.Had a hard time getting it to work when first took it out of package and tried to start it up. Got it for my wife who said the manual is not written clearly enough in that the directions in the manual did not match with the "menu" on the machine. She said that this machine grinds beans with water it warms up but that she wanted one that goes a step further in separating the ground beans from the new liquid made as did a machine we had a few years ago versus having to run the ground beans and liquid through the strainer provided. I do not remember if all this was clearly explained when ordering this. Do not think so. Do not see this explanation posted in the link situated above these comments as I write. But, who knows? Maybe this one less step will be one less thing to break down in the long run as extra features have been more things to break down. The machine she wanted may cost twice as much and we really do not have money for that anyway. The machine being reviewed is Made in China for whatever that may matter to you which I do not remember seeing written when ordering.
Has some issues
May 18, 2014
We had the previous model for several years and were very happy with it. We use it a lot and it was beginning to show wear so we ordered a new G4. It will only make two batches close together. If you try to do a third it quits in the middle. We usually do three batches at a time but we can’t with this unit. Also we don’t get as much milk per batch as with the old one. It is better than no soy milk maker but not up to our expectations based on our experience with the previous model. If we had it to do over we would have tried something else as this is a bit disappointing.
Nice but starting to act weird
December 31, 2013
I really like this product. You just have to be very careful. I know you can't submerge it but I tried to just tip the end into the sink to scoop up water but water still got into the machine. I mostly make rice milk in this. So I use the porridge setting. One day I did everything as normal and suddenly steam is billowing up out from under the lid. It had never done that before. I quickly unplugged it and let it dry out. The results of this machine are incredible but it is a finicky machine to use.

EASY TO USE
October 12, 2015
BOUGHT ONE OF THESE FROM THE HEALTH RANGER AND WAS VERY DISAPPOINTED IT IS SO MUCH EASIER TO USE VITAMIX AND NUT BAG, IT ACTUALLY WAS MORE WORK CLEANING THAN THE VITAMIX AND NUT BAG. YOU CAN ALSO MAKE A LARGER AMOUNT OF MILK IF YOU HAVE A VITAMIXER SKIP THE SOYAPOWER HOWEVER,IF YOU DON'T HAVE A VITAMIXER THAN GO FOR IT.
Disappointing!
August 15, 2015
Kind of disappointed in this item. I wanted it to make it easier to prepare nut and seed milks. It is quicker and easier using my old method of using my Vitamix Blender, which better breaks down nuts and seeds. The Soyapower might make soups or porridge's ok. If I bother to try that, I let you know. It was definitely NOT NOT NOT worth over $100 or even $75 for that matter.
We feel Amazon has great return service
May 29, 2015
We brought Soyapower G4 new from Amazon, used about a week and it broke down: the grain function did not work anymore. We had to return it. We feel Amazon has great return service. I give it 2 stars instead of 1 because we love it's older model. We have been using the previous model Soyapower plus for more than 2 years. we use it almost daily and never have problem with it. It becomes indispensable tool for our daily diet. We want to have a spare one in case it breaks down someday, so we brought this newer model. I think we will buy another Soyapower G4 (previous model is no longer available) in hope that we were just plain unlucky last time.

It stopped working after few uses and I just find out that it cannot be returned after 90 days. IIt is completely useless and worthless, don't waste your money on the Soyapower. There is a reason why the window of return is only 90 days, it will break down in 3 months. My Vitamix can do a better job, and has no trouble after more than 10 years.
