Everything I wanted at a fair price.

Wrong picture but the curved face unit i got will let me stack nvidia shield on top so better. The code is vary easy, and works great.Playing dvds of any region without any codes or tweaks at all.Playing blu-rays of other regions press 2 or 3 on the remote and play.Region 1 is the default in us so no code needed.Sold build, good size, cool operation, simple front controls 2 buttons open and power. The remote is feature rich, and my tv is a 60 inch Samsung so total integration.Lan/wifi input seamless updates. My tv cost less because it is not a smart tv but with this player it is not needed.
Definitely worth it!

I'm really pleased with this blu-ray player I have owned it for almost a year now and it has worked beautifully. The apps work fine, Wi-fi connection is fine and it has played blu-rays and DVDs from USA and UK. The only issue I have had with it is that for whatever reason it will not play my Hannibal (TV) blu-ray discs and it shows that it isn't the right region which is odd because its never happened before and they are region 1 discs. It might just be an issue unique to lions gate DVDs and it has not been an issue with any other disc i've played so I do not fault this blu-ray player for that issue.I would really recommend this if you are looking for a region free blu-ray player!
Works quite well

Purchased the BD-F5100 6 months ago and have been very pleased with its multi region capabilities as well as a DVD/Blu ray player. This unit is mated to a Samsung LED HDTV. Unfortunately, the reviews of different Samsung players have been combined into the thread of this unit and may have caused some confusion about its multi region capabilities. Therefore to clarify, for DVDs this unit automatically detects the region (0-9) and then plays the disk. However, for Blu ray disks, one has to manually change the region (A, B or C) first; otherwise, the player defaults to the factory setting, which for USA is Region A. The user manual from Samsung does NOT address how to manually change the Blu ray region. However, enclosed in my purchase was an instructions sheet from 220-electronics.com with the following directions (abridged version follows):1) Turn player off using remote - wait until player is fully off before proceeding. Make sure Quickstart is turned OFF as region switching will not work2) Press button on remote to select (blu ray) region: Region A: press button 1 on the remote control Region B: press button 2 Region C: press button 3The player will automatically turn on and boot up in the region corresponding to the number you entered. This reviewer has viewed DVDs from multiple regions and Blu ray disks from Regions A & B without trouble and hopes others find this information of use.
It's Worth It!

I love it. It is a plug n' play unit that does everything I want except for the zoom feature I had on my DVD (Toshiba) player. It has a three speed fast forward and three speed reverse as well as normal pause, forward and reverse as well as scene forward and reverse. I don't have that many non-A Blue-Ray discs and non-region 1 DVD's. I bought it for those films that I want that are in those regions/areas. I can't understand why DVD's and Blue-Ray discs have to be flagged like this except for more profit. Any area/region disc should be able to be played on any machine, but they are flagged not unlike when with the VHS tapes where they added a flag to keep someone from making a copy. .At any rate, the unit is great and I would recommend it to anyone.
I am very happy with tho product
October 21, 2014
When I received this product i did not realize that the Blu-Ray zones had to be changed manually and thought the product just did not work. For those of you who did not notice this either, this product is in fact region free, however it must be manually changed between regions A/B/C, the instructions are included in the packaging of the Blu-Ray and are actually quite simple. I am very happy with tho product.
Plug and Play Baby!!!!!
April 29, 2014
I unpacked my DVD player and tossed the instructions to the side. Plugged it to the wall and plugged the HDMI to my television, inserted my batteries to the remote, popped in my DVDs from Spain, Poland, Australia, France and the UK and they all played woooohooooo. I bought this model because all the reviews said it worked. It does work!!!!! Worth every penny I paid because now I get to view my foreign DVDs.

Excellent picture quality & very easy to set up & operate!
April 21, 2016
I have a Sony Blu-ray player in my front room that has performed flawlessly for 5 years so I decided to purchase another Sony Blu-ray player for my bedroom TV to replace the old DVD player connected to that TV. This player was a breeze to set up & connected to the internet via an ethernet cable in just seconds. The picture quality is superb. Much better than the old DVD player that I had connected to my bedroom TV. I was considering purchasing a new TV for the bedroom because the one I have is only 720P, but this player upgrades the DVD quality so well that I no longer feel that I need a new TV. Very easy to operate. Very small, not much bigger than a large paperback book. Overall, an excellent player for the price.
Excellent little box, IF you're within reach of your router with a wired connection.
December 9, 2015
Got this as a gift for my parents who have been frustrated (now that video rental stores no longer exist) that they can't easily watch movies and DVDs, since I had hooked up their computer to the TV via HDMI but that was kind of confusing for them when they had to switch from watching TV to "watching" the computer, then going to the amazon website etc to watch movies. They wanted an all-in-one device and this was perfect. They use it all the time now. They especially like that you can access Amazon Prime Video and Netflix super easily (It has a dedicated Netflix button and I set the "Favorite" button to Amazon Prime Video). Plus, now they can actually watch Blu-rays! (They never had a Blu-ray player before, and honestly they probably won't notice the difference; but I do when I'm over there!).Regarding the network issue: yes, you must be within reach of your router because this is NOT wireless. This worked fine in my situation since they already had Ethernet for the computer in the same room. But for people complaining about this saying things like "everything has WiFi these days" all I can say is: Read the description. It does not say WiFi support. There are plenty of more expensive models that support Wifi. But for a budget model, if you're in reach of your router via a wired connection, this box is near-perfect.Cons: Wired only. Yes I just defended the lack of WiFi, but WiFi would make this box basically the perfect portable little All-in-one entertainment device. Additionally, the on screen menus are sometimes clunky and not super responsive, but again, for the price it's worth it. Lastly, the lack of a keyboard on the remote can be frustrating (but again, for the price it's fine to leave it out),I'd say the only design flaw in this device is having an easily accessible, front facing USB port that DOES NOT support USB Keyboards. Most entertainment systems out there (particularly game consoles) will allow you to plug in a wireless keyboard dongle, but when you do so on this box, it immediately shuts down (in my experience). Maybe a firmware update could add that functionality? I don't know. But having a wireless keyboard connected would make it SO much easier to browse through titles.

December 7, 2015
Before I bought this guy, I did a lot of research on different Blu-Ray units and came away with the knowledge that there is almost no difference in quality from one Blu-Ray player to the next (in regards to the picture they output). They're all so equal that I just made sure the one I bought would have a light to indicate it being turned on and software that was easy to navigate. The unit looks very nice, almost like an infinitely smaller Xbox 1 (ALMOST and LIKE being the operative words). I plugged it in, fired it up and began to play around with the software, which IS easy to navigate. The playback of Blu-Ray discs is very nice and the unit is rather quiet. That's about it, but if anything else comes up, I'll update my review to reflect the changing factors.
Nice Player
July 18, 2015
Piece of cake to set up . . .Connected HDMI cable - Network cable - Power cable. Turned on the TV and selected the Blu Ray player as the input. Turned on the player and it downloaded and installed a software update flawlessly. Designated the make of the TV to the player remote and selected Amazon Prime Instant Video streaming as the preferred favorite and . . .started using it. Found the picture quality is great and the remote is intuitive.Very satisfied!

April 13, 2015
I got my unit on 4/7/15. It plays all DVDs, loads in less than 10 seconds, and is very user friendly. I just followed the easy setup directions & I was enjoying my BluRay player. I have an older Sony Bluray player- Model #BDP-BX1 bought in 2008 & it still works. BIG difference between the 2. You can also use Sony remote model #RMT-B103A- (my old Bluray rem.) with the BDPS1500. It has lighting & a couple xtra buttons vs. the remote that comes with the BDPS1500. I would highly recommend this very inexpensive unit. It also has an eternet port for streming services. I am very impressed with this unit!
Incredible value and nice selection of apps, including PlayStation Now
April 3, 2015
I bought this in replacement of my Sony BDP-S1100 Blu-ray player, which was getting old and started freezing up and having other issues. I have not had any problems with this Blu-ray player so far.Sony has released four Blu-ray players this year: The BDP-S1500 (this Blu-ray player), the BDP-S3500, the BDP-S5500, and the BDP-S6500. The S1500 is the cheapest and has the fewest features. The S3500 adds Wi-Fi and Miracast, as well as some other small features. The S5500 adds 3D capability and 2D to 3D upscaling. And the S6500 adds 4k upscaling. If you don't need Wi-Fi, Miracast, 3D or 4k upscaling, then this player is for you. If you need any of those things, you will have to pay more to buy a higher model. What's new in this 2015 Blu-ray player? A couple things. First of all, there's a new interface. From the Home screen you can easily launch your favorite apps, play the disc, or browse the pictures, music, and videos on your USB. If you go to All Apps, you can see all the apps available. The interface is easy to use and navigate, and it looks nice, too. Also, there is the PlayStation Now feature, which I'll mention later.PICTURE/AUDIO QUALITY_____________________20/20▌▌▌▌▌▌▌▌▌▌▌▌▌▌▌▌▌▌▌▌¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯Picture quality is pretty awesome. Blu-ray discs look incredible on an HDTV. DVDs obviously aren't as nice, but still look great with the 1080p upscaling. The audio quality is awesome. I have tested the audio from the coaxial port and the HDMI, and they both sound great (I have 5.1 surround sound and it's working perfectly).FEATURES_____________________17/20▌▌▌▌▌▌▌▌▌▌▌▌▌▌▌▌▌¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯No Wi-Fi, 3D, or 4k upscaling, but at this price, it will be very hard to get these things. It does, however play Blu-rays, DVDs and Audio CDs, as well as the pictures, videos, and music on your USB flash drive, and has a decent selection of apps (including Netflix, Amazon Instant Video, Hulu Plus, Vudu, Crackle, YouTube, Pandora, Facebook, and more, plus others in the Opera TV Store app), and has the PlayStation Now feature. With PlayStation Now, you can stream PlayStation games (you can rent games or buy a supscription). I haven't tried it out yet, but I don't think it will run as fast or be as good as a PlayStation, and you will still have to buy a game controller. Still, it's a cool feature not found on other Blu-ray player brands.DESIGN_____________________15/20▌▌▌▌▌▌▌▌▌▌▌▌▌▌▌¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯The overall design is nice. It has a clean, simple design that's pleasing to the eye. It is very compact (1½ in. tall, 9 in. from left to right, and 7¼ in. from back to front), which is nice, but also means that there is not enough room for a display that tells you the run time of the disc. To see the run time, you instead have to press the DISPLAY button on the remote.REMOTE_____________________14/20▌▌▌▌▌▌▌▌▌▌▌▌▌▌¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯The remote is very small, but there are three things I like about it. First, it feels very sturdy and fits comfortably in the hand. Second, the range is huge; you don't have to point it straight at the Blu-ray player. Finally, the layout of the buttons makes it pretty easy to find the buttons by feel, which is useful in a dark room.SPEED_____________________19/20▌▌▌▌▌▌▌▌▌▌▌▌▌▌▌▌▌▌▌¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯The Blu-ray player boots fast, and loads DVDs and Blu-ray Discs quickly. There is a slight bit of lag when navigating the menus, but apps open relatively fast (faster than any other Sony Blu-ray player I've tried).VALUE_____________________20/20▌▌▌▌▌▌▌▌▌▌▌▌▌▌▌▌▌▌▌▌¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯All in all, this Blu-ray player is a tremendous value. This is, in my opinion, the most feature-rich Blu-ray player you can get at this price. Thanks for reading! Please feel free to comment or rate my review helpful or unhelpful.

Expands Your Viewing Pleasure

I like British TV. This player allows me to watch DVDs and Blue Rays I previously could not watch. I would prefer the on/off/play/stop buttons to be on the front.
All region player is great; special features somewhat lacking
October 12, 2015
Item as described, easy to use, plays all regions with no fuss on both DVDs and Blu-Rays. The reason I dropped one star is because it doesn't support the angle function very easily, although it is present in a submenu. You are not able to switch between angles while the media is playing, for example, you cannot toggle between broadcast and remastered versions of "Star Trek: The Original Series" to show off the new effects, but you can change between them and then restart the episode in the format of your choice. Also, doesn't remember where you left off when you insert a disc; you have to restart from the opening menu every single time, then find your place again manually. Other than those 2 complaints, I am very happy with this product.
Good product

Sometimes I can't find a movie in number 1 region that I want and have to look elsewhere and this player makes it possible for me to do that. So far I haven't had any real problems with it but there is one annoying thing about it and it doesn't happen often and other players have done this as well, and that is once in a while, it will vibrate and make a resulting sound. it's not a loud sound but annoying nonetheless. Overall, I do like the player. Still glad I bought it.
Not sure yet!

We will need some time to fully evaluate. Bought this to replace an Orie that failed right out of the box. But now this one only has Toslink audio out. You cannot connect to an analog tuner. Ugh, out of the frying pan into the fire, I wish there was a picture if the back of this unit. Other than that minor roadblock this unit is more solid than the previous one.
Nice, but remote control dependent
April 12, 2014
A very nice player, but the on box controls are very limited and hard to get to/use when you place it on shelving... The controls are on the top of the box and that makes them difficult to see and access.... But the output, speed and overall capability of the unit is 5 star
The good and the not so good
January 5, 2014
I'm giving it 4 stars as it does what I bought it to do. Once it was hooked up and working (see below) it plays region A, B and C bluray disks and region 0-8 DVD's and displays PAL disks wonderfully on my NTSC TV. That's what I was in need of.I took it out of the box and hooked it up to my Samsung Smart TV with the supplied HDMI cable. Nothing. Nada. Would not respond to the remote. I could power it on at the box itself but none of the other functions would work. Changed the batteries in the remote. Tried other HDMI ports on the TV. Last ditch before boxing it up to send back I swapped the HDMI cable with a working Roku. Voila. It started responding to remote. Would play disks, etc. While not a complete brick the Roku did not work properly now. Went and got another HDMI cable. Now it all works.Went through the setup which is reasonable. It has a wired network connection. It could connect to Netflix and see All Share running on my PC. Went to the screen for the firmware update and it claims it cannot connect to the internet. Went back to the network setup and it all checked out OK. Went back to firmware upgrade, no go. Perhaps it's a false message as it is in fact running the latest firmware. My Samsung TV and Samsung Home Theater are both able to connect for updates. At some point if I feel the need to update I'll try the USB route. But as initially stated it does what it was hired to do and does it well. I just hope if there ever is a need to upgrade the firmware it'll work the USB way.

Sony Blu-Ray... Multi Function Player
August 1, 2017
When I first got the Blu-Ray, it worked perfectly. After a couple months, it started making a slight grinding noise. I put my dvd/blu-ray/cd cleaner in the player and then it was playing at its best again. PLEASE make sure this player is cleaned on a regular basis! After a while, the player will make a slight noise, even after cleaning it. You may have to ":eject" the disc a couple times to get a blu-ray to actually play, as the screen may say, "NO Disc". Otherwise, the other functions of the player are Top Notch! Have had many successes with other functions including Netflix, Vudu, Playstation, etc! I've had this player for almost a year, and still working pretty good, just need to clean the player on a regular basis and it will work like a champ!
Just fine for the price
February 18, 2016
I purchased this player around Christmas of 2015 and through the first couple of months have been pleased. It is by no means a "top of the line" Blu-Ray player but it is excellent as a transitional player for people like me who have mostly DVDs. My old DVDs look wonderful upscaled through this player, and I find that the player itself runs quiet. There are a couple of things I do not like. Namely, the front of the player lacks a time readout, and the menu response time and movie load times are pretty slow. But again, I didn't buy this expecting it to be the latest and greatest. For the price, it's just fine.
It does what it does...
October 10, 2015
So far, so good. It's a cheap bluray that does what I need it to do. Was easy to get onto my network and download the update required. Plays all my CDs and all DVDs I tried so far. Many people complained of noise - not mine. Quiet as can be. Basically, this is an inexpensive bluray that plays all formats that I own.
I use these instead of HTPC for my digital media playback. Works great.
August 28, 2015
I got the refurb model, looks great, works great. Most importantly to note is that this thing plays DIVX, XVID, MP4, etc, from USB drives. I rip DVD's to XVID with retained AC3 audio and sometimes do MP4 for my kid's cartoons. This cheap box reads them the way a HTPC would. For $50, with a controller, HDMI, handles digital media? Awesome. Really great little device. It's cheap and works. It's not super fast and responsive, so don't expect it to glide like a high end device, but that's forgivable given it's cost and utility at that cost.
Update the firmware first
August 2, 2015
This unit had controls on the front, which is what I needed. It is also compact, something players 5 years ago weren't, which is nice. I needed a unit that could play Blu-ray discs, and did not need WiFi or other extra features, and this unit looked to fit. However there was a big issue when first using the unit, it had major judder when playing Blu-ray discs (haven't tested with DVD yet). The motion seemed to stop about twice a second, as if it were skipping which was awful. I tried going in the menu's advanced options to change settings, but it did not help. Then I updated the firmware to version M24.R.0214 released on 7/28/15, and it made the skipping go away completely. Now I'd rate it as a good player. By the time you read this the model you order may already have this firmware applied.
Good little BD player
July 26, 2015
I used to use PS4 to stream video and play BD movies, bought this for another room. This is slower than PS4 but also much cheaper and gets the job done. Setup was easy since this model doesn't use Wi-Fi. When playing old TV shows (4:3) on flat screens it'll play in full screen mode, which stretches the picture. Just need to go in setting and set it to standard instead of full. One time I left the player on and it hanged, the only way I can turn it off was pulling the plug. Other then that, for around $60 this is a good deal.

Won't buy Samsung again.
August 23, 2014
I bought this player on August 8. The player would continually stop and start on Netflix, then we had to reconnect to the wireless network every time we turned the player back on. Finally after 2 weeks of trying to make it work I called Samsung and found out that the software had to be upgraded, and that it couldn't be done over the network so they have to send me a disc which is going to take 5 to 9 days to receive it. So the brand new $199.00 player sits here and waits for a software upgrade that for some reason didn't come with it. We also do not have Amazon capabilities with it that it is supposed to have so I hope the software upgrade will fix that to. NEVER AGAIN.
Good BD/DVD player but no so good app device
June 20, 2014
Quality of BD and DVD playback and ease of use of those functions are good. The device seem to have very low processing power or memory for the apps provided. They are very sluggish. Have problems with the YouTube app when there is no disk in the drive. It goes in to a loop of checking for disk in the drive and restart the app. App start working albeit sluggish once you put a disk in the drive. Playback itself is not sluggish, provided you have a good connection. Buffering is low which means if the connection is slow, there will be plenty of interruption, like every couple seconds.Other apps were useless when I took it overseas. Software update option does not seem to work either. No messages saying if it actually checked for the update,

September 26, 2017
9/25/2017 I only gave this 3 stars because the Sony box it came in was very damaged. The Amazon box, however, was in perfect condition so that tells me that they sent it with a damaged box. It also appears that this was either refurbished (which I found nowhere in the description or anywhere else that stated it was refurbished, so I was under the impression that this was brand new.) You could tell the box had been opened at least once, probably several times. The images on the box were also fading away (for lack of a better word) as if the box had been moved a number of times...the images were scratching off. Now, I can't say whether or not they had tested it before sending it, but, after using it one time for a movie, it does work. I was very worried, however, that it wouldn't work. Surprisingly, it appears to work fine and I cannot see any physical damage to the player itself. I will update this post if anything happens.

Good. Not great. Wouldn't recommend or advise against. Just be aware that in my case it froze up in less than a year. If you see more of the same in the reviews then don't buy it, if you see overwhelmingly positive and my review is a rare 3star then go for it.
Problems with the remote control.
November 29, 2016
I bought this to use while I was waiting on my other Sony DVD player to get back to me under their warranty. It lasted less than a month before I started getting the same problem; that being that the remote control stops working. It is very annoying. You have to wave the remote directly in front of the sensor while holding the button down, and then try to release the button when it finally works, to keep from scrolling past whatever you are trying to access. In a year, I have bought two players (BDP-S1500 and BDP-S3700). And I have been sent two replacements under warranty. They will warranty them. But it is a time wasting process, and they always want you to do the same stupid procedures every time, which are never related to the problem. And then the player they send you has the same problem. I finally gave up and bought a different brand.EDIT: 11/29/2016As soon as I posted my review I was contacted by a Sony representative. I really have to credit the employees of Sony. Whenever I have contacted them, they also seem eager to help. Frankly, I think this DVD player should be recalled, based upon all the negative reviews, and the similarity of the negative reviews. But I think they still have good people working at Sony. While this product did not work for me, I may try another product in the future. I raised my one star to two stars, solely because of their effort. I want to believe in Sony.EDIT: 12/3/2016The more I think about this the more I think it must be something I am doing wrong. But I do not know what. I have tried everything they asked me try. Sometimes the dang thing works, and other times it doesn't. I do have it in an unusual setting however. Many other electronics nearby. And also, while many have negative reviews about the Wi-Fi, not that many are complaining about the remote control. I have many other Sony electronics. They are working perfectly for years. I am going to raise my review up to 3 stars because I just know this is my fault somehow.

NOISE after 1.5 years of use (not daily use)
November 28, 2016
We bought his player to watch a non US region movie. It's been 1 year and half we started using with once in 1-2-weeks (or less) kids movie. This player has started making weird squeaky NOISE, about a few month ago and finally started freezing many times during 1 movie. we have cleaned the player but didn't help. When you have small kids in a house, no time to bring this to fix. Our older Blu-Ray player has been working just fine for "5 years" now. Do I have a warranty? But we don't have time to deal with it.

Should have believed the negative reviews. What I have received DOES play German DVDs...however it is basically the country code free version of the $77 BD-F5700 version. OK for a while...now problems are starting
June 1, 2014
It did what it supposed to for the first month or so, and now its starting not to recognize the zone/region. Its supposed to change zones/region automatically, which it did at first, and now it stopped doing that. and last night it started not recognizing Blu Ray discs. Not happy that this expensive DVD player is starting to go wrong. In fact of the three Samsung products we own, none of them have been trouble free and we would think twice about buying another Samsung product.

I would strongly consider reading comments on this product carefully. Everything worked swimmingly with this device until just a few months ago when it began cutting out of YouTube and Hulu during almost any video. If YouTube wasn't the source of a majority of my news and entertainment this would not be too big of an issue, as the BD player and Netflix work perfectly. The issue had no pattern to when it would occur, so every video I watched was a lottery. When the service cuts out, a notification appears that says: "cannot open this application because it is too large. The application has been terminated." I have done research into this issue, having tried all of the basic "fixes" for this sort of problem, and found that there are a great number of Sony customers across multiple countries and a variety of their devices that support streaming services. After a great deal of feed back on this post from other Sony customers including those most tech savvy, it became apparent that the issue is on Sony's side, yet it has been over a year since it was first brought to their attention. The only "fix" for this problem seems to be returning it. As I have not contacted Amazon or Sony for myself yet, I will update on the return process.
Disappointed

We purchased the Sony Blu-ray player 6 months ago and have had nothing but problems. DVD's get stuck or the player decides not to work. My husband has to unplug the player almost everyday to reset it so it will work.
Very Disappointed
June 15, 2016
I purchased this on December 3, 2015. It has performed well in terms of streaming to my TV without any hiccups. BUT yesterday, FOR THE FIRST TIME, I tried to play some DVDs. I cannot get the disc tray to open. No matter how many times I enter the code listed in the manual to cancel "Child Lock" (which I've come to despise on a number of things), it will not open. You can hear it trying, but it never does.I checked out the more indepth manual on Sony's website and tried their fix for that. IT DOESN'T fix anything. Instead it gives me the message "EJECT key is currently unavailable. Cancel Child Lock".According to the indepth manual on their website for this particular product....IF that message appears you are directed to CONTACT SONY FOR SERVICE.Are you kidding me? This is the first time I even tried to use the DVD player part and one of the two reasons that I purchased this, I come to find out it doesn't even work.I realized I've had this may months, but still IMO this unit is NEW at least in so far as the DVD Player itself is concerned. What an expensive piece of junk. And by the way, some of their fixes for this contraption indicate two people are required because they direct you to unplug and replug the AC wall adapter WHILE SIMULTANEOUSLY pressing down a button/s on the player itself. Unless you are a contortionist, have very long arms and legs and perhaps even two heads with two sets of eyes, you are SOOL without another person.I doubt there is little I can do to get a replacement to try at this point given I should have checked both aspects out at the time rather than assuming that if it worked with streaming, the DVD player would work as well. I would never have thought this to be the case with Sony and I will never again postpone trying out ALL functions.I don't know whose butt I would like to kick more. Mine or Sony's but since I spent close to $60 on this, I'm inclining more to the latter. And given the fact the player itself has hardly been used for even streaming, never moved nor abused, I don't recommend it and I will never buy another device like this with any child lock feature on it. What a POA all around.
After a few months started making a vibrating noise
January 12, 2016
I've been very happy with this DVD player. The only thing I wish it had was a timer. I have that on my other DVD player and realize I do sometimes like knowing how far into a DVD I am (like when it's a workout DVD and I want to know how much more I have to get through)*****EDIT- after having this DVD player for a few months I have to edit my review to say it has started making a noise, like something is vibrating inside. I'm pretty annoyed.

For the price, I expected this to be a better until. I am currently watching a movie and I hear the disc rotating louder than the TV. I do not recommend this product unless you are storing it out of ear and eye shot...very dissappointed.

Shouldn't have purchased this item , after one week of use the player doesn't function properly. This blu ray player that played an all region disc. , will not play the same exact disc.!! No longer a week later and reads "cannot read (play ) this regional code) ?arrrrgh
The player worked fine for 3 or 4 months
September 3, 2017
The player worked fine for 3 or 4 months. Then it started to freeze up. And the only thing that would get it to go was to pull the plug for a bit and then plug it back in. Now, it's starting to do it much more often and it's taking longer for the plug to be pulled before it will start. Tonight I had to hook my old player back up to watch a movie. This thing is a piece of crap.
Horrible worthless piece of offal

Wish I had bought something else. Like some of the other reviewers, I have had nothing but problems with this unit. It got replaced with a $50 kmart special and has been quickly outshined. Player glitches several times a day and shuts itself off, will not recognize my standard blurays and does the same to my other region dvds. In short, this unit is a pile of junk and I am a dissatisfied customer.
Buyer Beware (again)
December 23, 2015
My partner and I are from different countries and wanted to share our movies with each other. We purchased this device thinking we could use one player to watch all DVD region codes and Blue Ray zones. Instead, we found ourselves in possession of a completely different device (a BD-J5900) covered in stickers saying "multi-region". The serial number had been removed from the software and could only be found on the device by removing one of the stickers. What pisses me off the most, however, is that the device doesn't even play discs from different regions. Calling Samsung, they told me that they don't make a device that does that.We found ourselves in the possession of a hacked and non-performing player. We're returning it tomorrow.
Very bad experience!

It does not work properly. It is not functional at all. It has some chip inside that some person attached, disabling the Ethernet port, with an annoying flashing red LED. It’s horrible. It came with a sheet of paper as instructions; supposedly you have to press the number 1 in the remote control to access the Blu-Ray region A, number 2 to access region C, and finally number 3 to access region C.As you can tell the system is terrible, it is never clear if you press the number at the right time, and the worst of all, it worked only the fist day.The supplier was very kind with me, he said that he can change it, but unfortunately the shipping was very vey expensive because I live in another country. In the end I send it repair but it only work as a very expensive region A Blu-Ray, not as multiregional. Very bad experience!ERIK
very naughty...

read the fine print.I can't get this thing to work multi zone unless I get the technical encyclopedia out. Seriously it's way to complicated and you can't just put in the blue ray each time and expect it to change region as I do with my other one.Really bummed I didn't realize this until now otherwise I would have sent it back

This is a bad player and no help from Sony
September 3, 2016
Wow, I had the Sony BDP-S570 and "upgraded" because the old one did not play Youtube videos anymore. This should have told me that Sony stopped supporting Youtube and their customers. The BDP-S1500 is more like a downgrade! Sure it plays Youtube videos. But only a few. It crashes with an error message that the application is too large and then Youtube closes. Additionally, the player is very slow to respond to commands. No help from Sony here either. On top of all, the quality of streamed HD movies is just as bad. For comparison we watched the same movie with the old player and they looked real HD.In my opinion this model has been designed and programmed by people who were not interested in building a good product!I strongly suggest to look for any other manufacturer until Sony starts to support their products and customers again.
total waste of money

It worked once and never again. Remote doesn't work and manual button for power and door slide also do not work. Only way to get the door open to insert a dvd is to unplug power and once the dvd is insetted the unit does not respond to the remote. This is the last of the Sony products I will ever purchase. After reading other reviews of this product with the same complaints I am surprised That Amazon still sells this product. Warranty is only 90 days so I am out the cost of the unit with no recorse.
USED IT THREE TIMES...THEN JUNK!
June 2, 2016
I bought this to use while traveling. It was kept in a padded laptop case when not in use.The player worked well all THREE time it was used. Then it would no longer power up or open.Of course, this happened shortly after Sony's ridiculous 90 day warranty expired. Luckily,I bought it using my Visa card and they stood behind their warranty benefit and reimbursed me it.Sony products and their warranties are becoming a joke.
Garbage - do not purchase!!
April 25, 2016
Purchased on November 2, 2015 and quit working on April 25, 2016. I did not use this device very often and was surprised that it stopped working so quickly. I have a 20 year old VCR that is higher quality than this junk. What happened: I got an error that said "cannot eject disk, child lock enabled". I went to Sony's help website where it stated to jump up 3 times, flip around twice, sit down, stand up. I followed the useless instructions, then did a settings reset, and now the unit is a brick. This unit is garbage.
Defective/Terrible Sony customer service
January 22, 2016
This Blue Ray was defective out of the box. It had a loud buzzing sound. I called Sony had them listen to the sound and they agreed it was defective. They said they would replace it but I had to meet certain criteria. Then the fun started. They wanted a PDF image. I finally convinced them I couldn't send a PDF from a cell phone. I sent three images. Then they wanted me to get all the info on one image from a screen shot on my computer as a specific JPEG file, etc, etc. I wound up having to spend an inordinate amount of time in order for them to believe that I bought the item and that it was new even though it was clearly stated on the images. This went on for days. When I finally called them and asked what gives (its not like ti's an expensive item at $54) they gave in and said they would replace it but I had to send back the defective one first and that it would take around three weeks to replace. I am returning it to Amazon where I know they will take care of the replacement within days. Terrible customer service. Sony isn't the company they used to be.
DO NOT PURCHASE THIS BLU-RAY PLAYER - IT IS JUNK!!!!!!!!!
January 4, 2016
When I bought this Blu-ray player it would not play Blu-rays without the sound cutting out all the time. I learned there was an update that you needed so I connected it to receive the update. After the update it was working fine for a while. Now months later it is back to the sound cutting out and it is too late for me to return it. I have tried connecting it to see if there is another update, but no luck. DO NOT PURCHASE THIS BLU-RAY PLAYER - IT IS JUNK!!!!!!!!!
